Have only had drinks here so can't comment on the food but the menu looked really good! Drinks were great and priced average for Charleston. The beer selection was good but only have about 5 on draft; all local though. Definitely try the beer cocktails! They were awesome!

Started off bad and went downhill fast. It took more than 10 minutes for a server to come to our table while the hostess just stared at us. The server suggested a beer but when asked about it had no idea what kind of beer it was. The menu is pretty limited but interesting. I ordered the BBQ chicken pizza and my girlfriend ordered the catch of the day salad. The pizza good but not great. The salad was another episode all together. The honey lime dressing was replaced with habanero vinaigrette which was way too spicy. Then the salad was replaced with the same piece of fish and a different salad with the same spicy dressing. Then a 3rd salad with the same piece of fish and different ingredients was brought with a sweet onion dressing. At that point she gave up and ate it as it was. They comped the salad but not her $7 cocktail. The floor manager tried hard but effort and execution are different. I know it's a new joint, but if an iconic local pizza joint couldn't make it in that location, this kind of performance will never make it.

Went to Lowdown on a week day with a small group. The atmosphere was pretty typical bar setup and the waitress was nice, but everything else was pretty bad. The food ranges from bland to bad and the service was awful. They were out of several of the beers listed on their menus, our waters were empty most of the time, the food for the table came out complete staggered, so people waiting for other to get their food had cold food by the time they ate, and they even completely forgot one person's food. There was nothing special there to make me want to go back.

I really wanted to like this place because it's near my house, the renovation looks great, and they have lots of outdoor seating and cornhole. Unfortunately, the food was mediocre at best. Their interpretation of pulled chicken tastes more like boiled chicken with no flavor and the pizza was disappointing. Overall, the presentation of the food was bad, the quality was awful, and the portion size was too small for the price. This place is not going to stay in business with the menu and kitchen that they have. I really hope that they can revamp both because I want to support local business and the space is great. But for now, there are better restaurants in the area with more bang for your buck.

Came to Low Down on our vacation to Folly Beach and loved it! Amazing burgers, pizza and salad. Came on a Sunday night so the restaurant was pretty empty. Waitress was very nice and attentive. Recommend the mozzarella appetizer!

Favorite ginger beer signature drink in town the "damn!" Great wings and buffalo pizza. Its our go-to place for casual eats and great staff!

We've been to the lowdown 2 or 3 times and it was never something that encouraged us to come back that often. So, we usually end up hitting the usual James Island spots, but most of them have let us down recently. Back to the Lowdown, we went in last night to give it another try. Something is very different in the kitchen, in a great way. I wouldn't just throw out a 5 star rating, but the change in the quality and flavor of the food deserves it. Everything we had had a ton of flavor and we will definitely be back. As long as they can keep it up. And pleasant service from someone who was working the entire restaurant.

I've only been once. 2 appetizers that were OUTSTANDING were: 1) Fried mozzarella blobs with sauce (no longer on menu, however they made it for my wife) 2) Cornbread in a 6" cast iron skillet saturated in honey butter was the most delicious thing I have tasted in quite some time! That's all i have to say about it. Burger was not outstanding... was not bad either. Fries were excellent! WAIT!!! Did I mention the CORNBREAD APPETIZER? If nothing else, STOP in & have one..or TWO! Believe me, your eye's will roll back in your head & your taste buds will convey to your brain receptors a feeling of euphoria. You'll mumble "hmmm-hmmm good!" in the direction of anyone within earshot! I'll be back mid January 2016. If the CORN BREAD app. is no longer on the menu, I will unfortunately have to vacate the premises! Cheers! 8-)

Lowdown Over and Bar works well for the James Island, SC culture. The staff truly cares about their patrons and the wait staff is very casual and warm. Each day, you offer a special to draw you in and the food is quite good for bar food. Wednesday is half price bottles of wine and pizza. Thursday is half price burgers all day. Both are great deals. Also, $1.50 Bud cans all day everyday. There are some TV's in and out and a small cornhole area. Overall, a good hangout. There is also a big indoor community table for big groups.

Outside it pet friendly with dog bowls and has a corn hole game great for friends and family to hang, inside is a bar with great drinks and tvs- perfect for every occasion & not just that but the food was perfect! I got a burger (forgot the name The something) had fried mozzarella cheese and marinara sauce was amazing! & I'm a frie lover and these were perfect they were small slightly crunchy not greasy. My boyfriend got a build your own pizza it was only $7 and delicious. I don't live here but will definitely be coming back again.

We went in right at noon. There was one other couple there already eating. Great deal for $7 combo if you want to try out some of their items. The place was nice and clean. Pretty bright and roomy on the inside. The staff was friendly. Danny got the $7 special. He got the 1/2 roast beef sandwich with soup of the day: chili. I tasted the roast need and it was moist. Odd that it had 2 big slices of mozzarella cheese on top but hey when in Rome. It neither added nor detracted from the flavor. That horseradish layer though was there from the first bite. Wow!! I thought the chili was good but the presentation in a coffee mug was not my favorite. My food was a little spicy but not so much that it took away the flavor. I had the Cuban sandwich. The roll was a little too hard for me me but the pulled pork was pretty good. That cornbread though that we got in the beginning as an appetizer was delicious. The "butter" was sweet and more like frosting on a cake. I should have saved it for desert instead of sharing. They had a few select craft and IPA beer options that we liked tremendously.

Had the Caesar Salad for a lite lunch, solid and a good size for the price, quick service too

The food at the Lowdown is always amazing. Love their nachos- really different from any other nachos I've had. They have crumbled cheese and a vinegar based sauce- SO GOOD! The sliders and pimento cheese are also terrific. The only reason I'm not giving them 5 stars is because they leave a large window open at night to the outside bar. When it is really cold out the entire restaurant gets cold and sometimes smells of smoke. If I bring a jacket though...it is great. Great weeknight specials.

Have loved this place many times. Especially their nachos, pizza and happy hour specials but I recently went there and got food poisoning. It was "off" season but my guess is the chicken went bad. Even mentioned to my boyfriend that night that it did not taste as good as it usually does... Didn't give 1 star because it was the only bad experience I had but nobody likes to get sick from a restaurant. Haven't returned because it just won't ever be the same. Maybe for drinks soon!

For James Island, this place is great. The place is clean. The service is friendly. The food is great- I've had cornbread, nachos, burgers, pizza, waffle sundae, and meatballs- with zero complaints. I was pleasantly surprised to find a small well done menu on Folly Road. Granted, from the street this place looks like crap. But it's amazing. Try it. For love of James Island, let's keep it in business.

Best cornbread ever! Everything I've had was really good but I'm seriously in love with the cornbread. Decent prices and great service too!

So yummy! And absolutely awesome service. These people care about YOUR service and YOUR experience. The food was FABULOUS, the service was A-1, spot on, attentive, friendly and just plain downright the way it SHOULD BE! We had a personal escort with an umbrella from the car to the door in the rain. Where else does this? Meatballs are just incredible, and the "pies" are yummy. Try the pulled pork nachos for an incredible foodie experience.

My girlfriend and I go here regularly, and we've never had a bad meal. From the burgers to the pizzas to the appetizers and salads to the large, fairly priced beer list, we haven't been disappointed. At it's core, it's simple-but-good American food with a friendly staff and a quiet and calm atmosphere. Take into account that it's convenient to Folly Beach and not overrun with tourists or the college crowd, it's perfect for families and/or a quick beer-and-grub stop.

A few friends and I went here for their opening night to the public. I ordered the short rib sandwich and wasn't expecting much, considering that they are more going for the sports bar atmosphere, but I was very satisfied. I was glad to see a decent beer selection, with several local micro brews on tap. There were a few opening night hiccups, but that is to be expected (one entree came out a little late), but the manager quickly comped the item. It's nice to have a new watering hole on James Island and I definitely plan on returning. They are open late (2am), which is a rarity on James Island. Hopefully this place can stick around!

I love this place; my fiancé and I have eaten here several times and have enjoyed really great, unobtrusive & prompt service, with phenomenal "low-country" cuisine that ranks among the tastiest I've had in this city (and the competition is fierce), with a local albeit limited craft beer selection. I highly recommend LDOB for a low-key dinner on James Island.

I have been to the Low Down a few times and each time the food and the staff have been outstanding. The food has been full of flavor and the staff has been very friendly, helpful and attentive. I will be going back!

I'm surprised this place is still open. We went not too long after opening and the food was super dry (nachos, sandwiches). I would skip this place.

Hubby and I loved the food! The pizzas are awesome and we love that they have a decent variety of local beer on tap! The service was quick and attentive. The server/bartender even took the time to run to the door and open it for us as we were leaving. Looking forward to going back to this little gem on JI.

Stopped in on a Friday night around 7. The place was a little loud with a live music duo, but I could still hear my husband talking across the table. We had the amazing cornbread with cinnamon honey butter for an app--delicious and unexpected! Husband got 2 Pluff Mud Porters--glad to see another bar carrying our local Holy City. We both ordered the Low Down Dirty Shame burger with pimento cheese, fried green tomato, and tomato jam. Both burgers were cooked perfectly to our order and super juicy, even though I ordered mine medium well (pregnant lady!). Bun was soft and toasted and the pimento cheese flavor contrasted nicely with the subtle sweetness of the tomato jam Fries were really tasty too, not greasy or soggy. The owners or managers were really involved in the service which I like, especially in a new restaurant. I can't wait to come back in the Spring so we can sit on the patio. We had a great experience and will be returning really soon!

I've only tried a couple items on the menu, but what I go for ALL the time is the burgers. I normally order the sliders because I like tasting a bunch of different things but man they are to die for. I normally hit them up once a week to get my burger fix. The addiction is real.
