I've heard great things about this place. They took over what used to be George's on Savannah Highway. The inside is bright any cheerful which matches the staff. Upon walking in, I was greeted with several hellos and welcomes from the staff. My server asked me my name before I ordered and welcomed me. Very different I would have to say but nice. She always addressed me by my name which made me feel like I was family. Sitting and observing the staff, they did that with everyone. Again, it makes you feel like your a regular or family. What a nice touch. Food was okay, nothing to dance about but I've heard great thugs so I'm definitely going back and trying something else.

Don't judge by the outside, strip mall doesn't look like much. Inside, the place is clean and well lit, lots of seating and a nice bar. You can get bar food there , but you can also get delicious upscale southern meals for good price. Staff is awesome and we love Thursday night trivia !! There are specials every night, and they can handle a large crowd without blinking an eye . Definitely customer focused!!

We ended up here for the first time on New Year's Day, and were very pleasantly suprised. The service was amazing and we felt very welcome and well taken care of. I had the fried goat cheese and cranberry salad and it was amazing! I tasted the dishes of everyone at our table and everything was fantastic. The stellar service mixed with the delicious food made for a great experience. Will definitely be back, thanks green goat!

Had a wonderful lunch here. What's great is that they have a variety on their menu so you can be as healthy as you want to be but indulge if that's your calling! I enjoyed the fried green tomatoes. Nice and crisp. I then had a "Grammy's salad" which was a fresh salad of arugula, cranberries, blues cheese with a goat cheese hush puppy. I added the blackened chicken to my salad which was sauted perfectly and was wonderfully moist. All my friends thoroughly enjoyed their meals. The fried chicken seemed to be a huge hit. I have to add that the service was great. All drinks were topped up, we were asked several times if all was OK, which it was! The place is low key and extremely clean. No nasty smells here! Overall, a great casual place to dine and I highly recommend it.

Went based on Yelp reviews, and close by. Very good food. I had grilled catfish on grits. Not being from the south, grits aren't the norm for me-They were great-- lots of butter didn't hurt. Husband had shrimp and grits. He really liked it. Thumbs up. Signage is hard to read. In back of strip center.

First, I have to say that I know every restaurant, no matter how great it is, experiences "off nights". So I'll give them the benefit of the doubt here but I still want to express my "meh" experience at what I thought would be a pretty awesome place. First, the location isn't desirable (located next to a strip pole dance class business) wherein you could here the music once class started and that was slightly annoying and off-putting. Not the worst thing in the world but not ideal. Second, and most importantly, the food was only Ok. Our mussels appetizer was only warmish when it came out and the broth wasn't our favorite from others we've had - it had a really oily buttery taste to it. As for my entree, I asked for the Bolognase with gluten free pasta and it came out as what looked, and tasted like, mush. I couldn't find the pasta and there wasn't any texture to the meal so needless to say I wasn't happy. As it turns out, the GF pasta they served me was Gnocchi (which I love) but this must have been very overcooked as I couldn't identify it with the huge heap of sauce on my plate - pure mush. The owners were nice and refunded me the $10.95, which is great so I appreciate that but I think if they used a GF penne or macaroni and cooked it Al Dente so there is some texture and substance to the meal it would be so much better. Also, explaining to the patron what type of GF pasta they are serving is helpful as well. I'm sure with regular pasta it might have been different but I absolutely hate overcooked and mushy pasta so if the Gnocchi had been cooked Al Dente, I might have had a different experience. Who knows. My husband was happy with this meal of grilled pork chops and veggies - he is a harsh critic of meat, well anything really, but he thoroughly enjoyed the way the chops were cooked so that's a plus! Not my favorite place in Charleston and not sure I'll go back but if I do I might try lunch - the BLT with Fried Green Tomatoes sounds great!

So happy to find another gem in west Ashley which needs more good quality restaurants with fresh ingredients. The staff and owners were very friendly and attentive. I have heard good things about the Green Goat and always check reviews online before I try out a new restaurant. The reviews were mostly pretty good, so my friend and I decided to try it out. We were pleasantly surprised how nice the place looked on the inside. The restaurant was separated from the bar, which was on the other side. The menu was very comprehensive and had so much to offer!! We started out with the fried green tomatoes as our appetizer! They were outstanding! My friend ordered the blue plate special which was chicken and dumplings. Her only complaint were the dumplings. She prefers the strip dumplings and these were the round biscuit type. I ordered the quarter fried chicken and chose the collards and goat cheese mashed potatoes as my sides. Everything was so delicious! Christy was our waitress, and she could not have been nicer!! I can't wait to go back and bring my husband! What a treat to have such a great place in the sparse West Ashley area!

Wow...West Ashley in Charleston, SC WELCOMES Green Goat ! Finally, a restaurant that serves local, southern, down-home food, in a comfy atmosphere. The menu was so inviting, that we will be returning to try more entrees. I had the fried shrimp and catfish, turnips and grits. The shrimp tasted LOCAL, very chewy and not slippery. The catfish was good, but was not fried in cornmeal (as true southern catfish comes). The turnips were delicious, as well as the grits. Grits were creamy, and not instant. My dining partner had fried pork chop with rice. The Green Goat is a combination of restaurant/bar. The noise from the bar was just a tad annoying in the dining room. But over, a nice place. Hope to dine there more, and try other entree's. The desserts looked very gourmet, and hope to try one next time.

Wow, brunch was so good I couldn't even get out of the restaurant to write a review. Had the grilled salmon special, fried pickles, and the reason we came... the Newcastle Mac and cheese. Staff was friendly and helped steer me in the right direction in terms of what to order. This is a hidden gem of Charleston, give it a shot you won't be let down.

Very happy with the green goat, every time I've gone it's been a good experience. Good burgers, last time I went I had the chicken and dumplings which was great too. Beer selection was nice, bartenders are knowledgeable. Pricing is fair, service is friendly, and it's clean. Overall, always a good choice.

I have been eyeing this place for awhile just mainly cause that goat is so cute but I'm so glad I finally went. My coworkers and I went on a Thursday for lunch and I loved it. Very open inside and our server was great. You can text a number in your cell phone and get daily deals which is also a plus. I got the shrimp and grits which were AMAZING! The grits were creamy and that sauce was the best I've ever had! My coworker got the special which was chicken and dumplings which is liked but she wished the dumplings were alittle smaller. Can't wait to try this place again!

Love love love! I literally just ate here 5 mins ago. It's nice inside, TVs, bar..drinks (yessssssss). My mom and I came here because it's new and very close to our home. I ordered the grilled pork chop with veggies and mac & cheese. Mom ordered fried pork chop with rice & gravy and beans. We both loved our food. I drank a "Goat on the Beach".....tastes very good. I will be back & if I'm too wasted to drive, I will walk home...around the corner.

I ordered a large house salad with grilled blackened chicken $14.00. The grilled chicken was excellent, however, I was eating out of the same type metal bowl that I feed my dogs out of. Also, the lack of lettuce overshadowed the quality of the chicken. For this to have been large was ridiculous, there was not even a handful of lettuce in my doggy bowl. My husband ordered the blue plate special of some sort of sausage gumbo/soup for $9.95. I knew when they put the bowl down this was not good. While he said he was flavorful there was not enough of it to qualify as a meal. It did not even come with a roll, cornbread, cracker - nothing. He left hungry. Very disappointing experience. We looked around at other diners' plates and noticed the same thing, very small portions. I will give them kudos for using smaller plates to match their portions. And no we are not hefty eaters but appreciate quality portions with quality food and reasonable prices.

Hopping and happening place, even on a Thursday evening. We weren't too sure, because the location is right on car sales road and from the outside it looks like a strip mall. But the food is so unique and excellent, fresh and tasty. Made me want to return to sample more dishes. A great surprise was the pomegranate cider and sweet pistachio cake. Moderately priced and the service was outstanding. Heartily recommend.

Ok, so I wasn't expecting perfection but the experience could have been better. The server was totally not friendly from the beginning to the end she didn't warm up at all. That being said the guy serving the table behind us was very into his work even delivered our plates wished he was our server since he was very attentive to his table and when we needed more napkins we had to search for our server. The food though was good. I ordered the cat fish po boy it was waaaay to big for the bun impossible to eat but I did get a few bites before it all fell apart and it was tasty! The house made chips were very good. The decor was nice but maybe if the server is more personable it would make the entire experience different.

Really loved this little hidden spot. Don't be scared off by the pole dancing classes offered next door or the Asian "massage" parlor down the way. The food is great and the servers were friendly and made the experience enjoyable! I had the arugula salad with fried goat cheese, bacon dressing, and a crab cake. The crab cake had huge chunks of crab and wasn't greasy like some. My husband had the shrimp and claimed that it was so good it didn't even need the cocktail sauce (which was homemade) served with it. There's also a great beer list. If you scan the little QR code when you go in you can also get 10% off your meal.

Recently discovered the Green Goat. So happy to have a local restaurant like this in West Ashley. They have "down home" cooking but also offer healthy options.Their menu is not extensive, but rest assured what they do have, they are masters at. On the evening I went my boyfriend and I ordered the fried green tomatoes as an appetizer . They were delish! For entree I had the hangar steak topped with bleu cheese, which was that night's special. I am NOT a collard fan but our server convinced me to try and so glad I did. Collards were the best I have ever had! Completely converted me to a collard fan. The steak was very good too. The bf ordered the ham & Swiss stuffed meatloaf. It was awesome!! Very good size portions. Friendly staff, laidback atmosphere, the owners were in the kitchen. Will be back :)

Had a great lunch today! Billy Tomatoe app was very good, meatloaf was great, should have had the second slice option, even though I would have had to take it home. Newcastle Mac and Cheese was different and very tasty, so was the goat cheese mash. I even liked the collards, and that is a tough feet to accomplish with me. I felt the price was a good charleston cheap/moderate, $30 lunch for two with tea, appetizer, 2 entrees. Thank you for a great lunch date with my wife.

I LOVE The Green Goat. I am a local in West Ashely, and I could not be more excited to have this establishment in my neighborhood. The outside of the building could use a little work, but it's the inside that counts anyway, right? The restaurant is charming inside, and the staff are kind and attentive. I went this weekend with my husband and small child, and our server was Kelsey. She was so friendly and knew exactly what we were going to need before we did (talk about good service). They provided an adorable coloring sheet for my daughter, and an excellent selection of healthy options as kids meals. Kelsey recommended we try the fried green tomatoes as an appetizer, she was right, they were awesome! I love the fact that they mix up the recipe a bit by adding goat cheese, chowchow and balsamic; all this further enhanced by the fact that The Green Goat make their own ChowChow in house! My husband ordered chicken wings with the house made Hot Honey sauce and blue cheese as his meal; although the wings were great, we couldn't help but eat the blue cheese with a spoon because it was THAT good. For my meal I ordered a burger with sautéed onions and mushrooms and Mozzarella (House made!!), and it was excellent. I really do love the Green Goat. It's affordable and delicious with an excellent beer selection. I am all in support of everyone giving it a try, and support this great local business!

I can't understand the recent poor reviews. I was stumbling down the Savannah highway just a few weeks ago with my parents, looking for a reasonable lunch on that endless strip of fast food and car dealerships. I decided to whip out Yelp to see what local recommendations it might have. The Green Goat popped up, and we stopped right in. It's a great neighborhood place - it's fairly non-descript from the outside - that a traveler would probably never otherwise notice or patronize. However, it is clear that the folks here know and care about food. It is evident in the menu and in the execution. It's not particularly fancy - more fun and casual - but it is certainly a notch above your normal lunch fare, and at a very fair price. The fish and chips were enormous! We loved it, and while I unfortunately live 600 miles away, my parents now stop in every time they go to Charleston. Good job, Green Goat!

Had supper here as a result of yelp rating. Very plain exterior in small plaza. Staff was quick and so nice had. Kelsey As server she was better than polite and efficient. green tomatoes were best ever. We had meatloaf and pork ops and both were good . Mashed potatoes with goat cheese where even better than they predicted. Nice spot

We went to the green goat today (9/6/15) and had a terrible experience:/ Unfortunately we didn't even get to try the food because after waiting over an hour for our food, we canceled our order and left...Before I explain how terrible the service was I will say a few disclaimers: 1.We were a large party and 2. Not everyone was on time...Now on to why I will never go back! Our reservation was at 12:30 and the entire party was there by about 12:45(mind you there was only two people that were that late). It took a long time to take drink orders then we finally asked the waitress if she could take our food orders since she had not come back to ask. My husband looked at his clock and our orders were placed with the waitress by 1:15...Then at 1:50 when our food had still not arrived one of the people in our party asked the waitress. Her response was "I'm really sorry, the kitchen is really backed up and I have no idea how long it will be". About 2 minutes later another waitress came over and asked if we needed more drink refills, then proceeded to say to us "by the way you have only been waiting 20minutes that's when your food was ordered", the person in our party then said that's impossible since our reservation was 12:30 which the waitress replied "well she was told to wait for everyone to arrive"...she continued to argue which really upset me and made me realize just how poor the customer service was...we then waited till 2:15 and our food had still not arrived...at that point my baby was over it so my husband and I canceled our orders very politely. The waitress was understanding and apologized and didn't make us pay for our drinks. We then headed over to box car Betty's and it was awesome My recommendation is to avoid if you have a large party!

My spouse and I went here 7/5/15. It was absolutely horrible. I ordered the fried catfish, a side of collards and the cream cheese mashed potatoes. My spouse ordered the Brisket, the cream cheese mashed potatoes and the mac and cheese. Cons for my order: the catfish was not seasoned AT ALL(very very bland), it was crumbling apart. I personally do not like steams in my collards(which they had), also the collards were very acidic. Pros for my order: the catfish was a large fillet, the mashed potatoes were red skinned potatoes and they had the skins in them(which is what I prefer personally), they were awesome! Cons for my spouse's order: the brisket was very dry and and he couldn't pick it up with a fork (they crumbled as well)poorly seasoned as well, sliced extremely thin. Pros for my spouse's order:the mashed potatoes and the mac and cheese were awesome! The waiter was very friendly and the atmosphere was very calm. The prices are reasonable, but after tasting the food, they should reduce them. Presentation was ok. We did not have any cocktails so i can not speak on the price and quality of the drinks. However, I will not go back for a second chance, mainly because I am a meat and fish lover and they did so POORLY on both, I will give them a thumbs down.

The Green Goat was a nice surprise for me and my family. We went on a Thursday night and were pleasantly surprised with great service and a very diverse menu. I had the shrimp poboy and my wife had 'Grammys Salad'. Both were delicious and our server was great. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone in the West Ashley area.

The green goat has a very relaxed atmosphere. The decorations are very unique. It seems like a place you can just hang out after a long day at work and grab drinks with coworkers. The food was very good. They just don't have a lot of healthy options. A couple of tips: On Tuesdays: $5 burgers. On Thursdays: trivia night.

The food was good but wasn't special or unique. The service was adequate but not spectacular. The decor really needs an update (which is surprising because this is a new business). I don't think I'll be back.

I had some grandiose plans for where I was going to eat while I was in Charleston. But after long days of sight-seeing, nothing sounded better than good food in a comfortable environment that was close to my hotel. Since the fancier restaurants were a 20 minute round-trip from where I was staying and I no longer felt like dressing up, I looked a little closer to "home" and found the Green Goat. Attracted by the stellar reviews and reports of a casual atmosphere, I headed over. A friendly bartender welcomed me and told me to take my pick of seats. Aside from the bar area, the restaurant was uncrowded. Things got off to a bit of an awkward start when my initial server informed me that they did not have a soup of the day and there were no specials. He walked away only to be replaced two minutes later by a much friendlier waitress who was happy to report that not only was there soup, but there were also two specials. To his credit, the first guy came back, apologized profusely and said there had obviously been a miscommunication. I admired his professionalism in doing that. I was curious to taste as many things as my stomach would let me and there was a plethora of unbelievably delicious-sounding menu items...fried green tomatoes, po' boys, crab cakes...the list went on and on. I loved that everything seemed to have a bit of a unique and creative spin to it. Also loved that everything was very reasonably priced. I started with a side salad that went above and beyond basic with sliced mushrooms, carrots, cucumbers, tomatoes, red onion, and mixed greens. Moving into that creative side of the menu, I ordered the ham & Swiss stuffed meatloaf with green tomato gravy. Savory, moist, and delicious, it also packed a surprising, moderately spicy kick. A side of Newcastle mac & cheese was rich and tasty. The only slight disappointment was a side of smoked collard greens. As was the case with all the greens I tried in the South, they were unpleasantly sweet. When I mentioned that I was debating between the meatloaf and the fried catfish, my awesome waitress told me I could just order one piece of the fish. So glad I did! Light and perfectly crisp coating gave way to moist, flaky flesh. Very fresh and delicious. Really glad I experienced this gem that's just off the highway. From my rock star waitress to the amazing food, it was a sensational Charleston dining experience.

Am very excited to have a restaurant like Green Goat in West Ashley!! Lots of healthy options, but also down home cooking as well. Drink menu is diverse with great beer selection and lots of cocktail options. We had the fried pickle chips--delicious!!! I have been twice, once for lunch and once for dinner. My first meal (lunch) was superior to the dinner. The waitress at lunch was outstanding. Very low key and easy going. All of our food was great complete with gluten free items for the kids. My concerns/recommendations for the owner: Cut back on the salt!!! We could not eat our vegetables, because they were way too salty. We had the collards and zucchini squash medley. We ate a bite, but couldn't finish. Our waitress was a bit too talkative---needs to read the clientele and listen rather than talk, talk, talk! I will return and look forward to another great meal and drinks!

Some fun and good drinks; try the Redneck Goatini. Tons of goats decorate the place that plays good music with great service. I had the meatloaf and my girlfriend had the blackened shrimp poboy...both great!

We ended up dining here by complete accident. After some holiday shopping in West Ashley we were going to stop at Eat A Pita on Hwy 17. We didn't know they were closed on Sunday so instead we opted for the place a couple of doors down. From the outside The Green Goat doesn't look like much. It's in an unattractive little strip mall and the only thing to entice you in to this place is their adorable little goat mascot on the sign outside. The inside was waaaay bigger than we were expecting. There is a large dining area and a full bar with tables. The decor is simple but fun, with that cute little goat mascot. They were serving what looked like a brunch menu and it was seriously hard to decide what to get because everything sounded so yummy. We settled on fried green tomatoes as an appetizer- light breading with goat cheese and balsamic- very tasty, a veggie scramble, the chicken fried pork and the pulled pork hash. So good! I was told the scramble was very good and I can vouch for the grits that came on the side. Real grits, not instant, and perfectly cooked. I subbed the chicken pan gravy to go with my chicken fried pork and that was a good call, though I'm sure the white pepper gravy would have been good too. It also came with a big heaping pile of mashed red potatoes which also went well with the pan gravy. The pulled pork hash was delicious and had that perfect blend of crispy and tender parts. It came with peppers, onions, red potatoes and an egg on top. My boyfriend and I are already looking forward to going back to this place and bringing some friends. Their bar/beverage menu looked amazing with lots of signatures cocktails and even a "Liquid Brunch" for those brave enough to try it.

What a great little find. It reminded me of some of my favorite Atlanta hot spots. The food was out of this world. The service was fantastic. And music in the background just made for a great brunch. Everyone at the table had the smoked roast Benedict and I had the fried chicken on a biscuit with sausage gravy. It was all very very yummy. I will definitely be back

After hearing about The Green Goat in the city paper, my girlfriend and I decided to venture out to try it. I was first impressed by the atmosphere by the restaurant because it did not reflect the look of the restaurnt on the outside and it's location. It was quaint and creative yet the shred of "plasticness" , that all chain restaurants have, was evident. At first, the service was excellent but throughout the meal it quickly waned. We ordered our second beer with our meal and did not receive it until we finished our food. Our water glasses remained empty for the duration of the meal. The food was better than a chain restaurant but not of the exceptionalism that I kept hearing about. I ordered a pan seared pork chop with rosemary sauce and bacon and cheese potato cake. At first bite it was delicious, but the longer I ate the less I appreciated the taste as it stayed the same and became bland. My girlfriend ordered the grass fed hamburger with goat cheese. It was a typical burger, the goat cheese complimented with the theme of the restaurant and the chips that accompanied the dish were good, but nothing to get excited about. Had it not been for the service, The Green Goat would have been a slightly better than average lunch but the service and lack of imagination hurt my high expectation of the restaurant.

Found this place by accident. Glad we did!!! The service was great. We were greeted by our waitress, Kelsey, as well as several others. We began with the Double Dipper. Homemade pimento cheese, crab dip, toast points, and homemade chips. The pimento cheese was excellent. Our entrees were an oyster po boy and a portobello mushroom melt. The sandwiches were delicious!! We can't wait to go back and try the fried green tomatoes. Very satisfied with the quality of service and food.

First visit: It was really delicious and they truly care about the food and the service. Comforting dishes really well looked after. The bartender alone though, reason enough to dine there - a light-hearted Cheers - like environment where all are welcome and warmly seen to. I'll go back as often as I can. Second visit: Am I in the same place? Fried chicken absolutely raw. Meatloaf so salty it was inedible. And the service. Omg. Took everything I has to get out of there peacefully. 4 servers all standing in the station area talked for 20 minutes nonstop. So, it wasn't possible to tell them the food was still clucking. And they don't pick up plates from apps to entrees or beer glasses. It was like sitting over a filthy sink full of dirty dishes. Never. Ever. Again. Gross.

I was visiting my sister in Charleston and she recommended this place for dinner. I was extremely satisfied with the food, service and location! The food: We tried the fried pickle and fried mac and cheese balls for appetizer, both were amazing! I asked for blue cheese as a dipping sauce and it is delicious!!! I could tell it was house made without asking. I got the fried chicken with fries and chips, everything I tried was awesome. I also tried the pickle juice martini, i'v never tried anything like it before but I LOVED it! The service: Kelsey was our server and she was great! Very knowledgeable about the menu and drinks. She was always checking in to see if we needed anything. (I needed several blue cheese and drink refills). Ambiance: I really liked the decor, lots of goats and paintings. My only issue is we were seated next to the "entertainment". The singer was good... just too loud because we were sitting right next to them. I would've preferred seating further away from the music. All in all, I will definitely return on my next trip to Charleston! I like that it's not a downtown location so that parking isn't an issue! Can't wait to try some other things on the menu next time!

We went here today for lunch. Gotta admit, the cute little goat on the sign and the $5 off coupon we got in the mail were pretty tempting. We went in, the staff was fairly nice, and we were seated at a booth (a few of the booths were wobbly, so we moved a couple of times). The inside is nicely decorated and makes up for the outside (the parking lot really needs to be repaved). I had the Grammy's favorite salad in a large size. It's an arugula salad with orange slices, dried cranberries, and fried goat cheese. It sounded delicious on the menu, and I wanted to like it a lot more than I did. The salad comes with 2 large fried goat cheese balls, which I kinda destroyed on my salad mixing everything together in the large bowl. It's goat cheese, so it's rich and delicious, and the salad toppings were enough for the greens, but the salad lacked crunch. I really wish they'd included some sort of nuts in there. The fried crust of the goat cheese got a little soggy when mixed in with everything. The service wasn't bad, but we didn't have any crazy requests either. It took awhile for the check to come out, so I spent some time eyeing others' food. If I return, I'd definitely try another option. I also saw some tasty looking desserts, but I never saw a dessert menu or list of them? They do have a nice selection of beers on tap, I will give them that. Overall, I'd give The Green Goat another shot. It's hard to compete with some of the other eateries on Savannah Hwy, though.

This place seems to be a hippy hang out. No big deal but the shrimp po-boy was very small with only 6 shrimp. $10.95 seemed a bit high. Blt sandwich was $8.95. With two waters, tax, and tip set us back $25 for two sandwiches. The catchy name draws people in but I won't be back. Good staff and service though. Just not my style.

We went here on a family trip recently, and headed over due to the great Yelp reviews. Unfortunately, Green Goat doesn't come close to living up to the hype. First off, don't take kids there. The food for kids (like hot dogs) is deplorable - there is little effort put into preparation, and you'll get a better meal for your kids with a quick stop at the grocery store for prepackaged bologna. Second, the service SUCKS. It's terrible, we waited for things like water and subsequent refills for far too long - and there were less than 10 patrons in the entire place. The place seems family owned, and we were told the menu items were the foods that they loved growing up as kids. Unfortunately, what appeals to one persons palette as a kid just doesn't cut the mustard for the masses. If you see this place, keep driving...there are tons of much better places in the area with the same class of food (McDonalds, Burger King, Taco Bell, etc. all come to mind.) This place just isn't very special, and should be avoided.

The manager, Jason, was very rude when I called him to explain their potato salad might be bad. Therefore, I wanted to take a second to provide a warning to everyone on his behalf. When my co-workers and I went to The Green Goat for lunch today we noticed the potato salad tasted fizzy (only way to explain it). Intrigued by the mystery ingredient that would cause a bubbly/ pop rock effect we kept trying it. Was it beer? Or some type of vinegar? We finally broke down and asked the waitress what their secret ingredient was. After receiving a confused look she went to go try it and said it just had too much dijon mustard. Two hours later and my office is now a crime scene. IF IT TASTES FIZZY DO NOT KEEP TASTING IT!! The secret ingredient is DEATH!! The manager "said" he was eating it now and it was fine. I hope he is telling the truth so he can experience a joyful assquake in about 2 hours

Our group came for karaoke and decided to show up early for some beer and food. Our waitress was terrible. She didn't know what beer they had and told us to look at the bar (on the other side of the restaurant) to see what they had and said there was no drink menu. I asked if they had any porters or stouts and she said she had no idea-she only worked weekends (it was Friday) and she had a really long week. After one person got up to go to the restroom, he FOUND a drink menu on another table. We ordered beer, some ordered food. But any time we asked her anything she said she had "no idea". Just bad customer service. They were out of the 2 beers I like on draught. I was running out of options for things I like to order. The icing on the cake was ordering a beer on a whim and loving it. It was organic, too! Everyone at the table wanted to get one and she came back to the table when we ordered a round to say they RAN OUT. I felt like we had to beg for information, wait too long and deal with disappointment constantly. We were laughing at how bad it was by the time we left. Who doesn't stock a bar on a Friday night?? All in all there was nothing there worth going back for. There are too many awesome places around to waste time somewhere like this.

I have heard a few good reviews on this place but I must say I wasn't impressed. It wasn't a bad experience but I can't say I had food or received service that was enough for me to want to go back. The atmosphere is like a step up from a bar, the food wasn't bad but just mediocre and the service was meh. The waitress did not seem like she wanted to be there, our bartender was nice while we waited for our table. I had the salad with fried goat cheese, chicken, cranberries, and mandrain oranges. I liked it but like I said it wasn't anything I have to go back for. The BF had the risotto on the restaurant week menu and it was not anything to rave about. I like to give any new place a 2nd chance so hopefully round 2 is an improvement.

Great local spot! Very unassuming in a strip mall off 17 but the food is good and ambience is nice. Live music each time I've been in that has been excellent. Definitely recommend the fried chicken on Sunday's with choice of sides - great deal and excellent food. Food is definitely southern/comfort food focused but healthy options available. Good happy hour specials as well!

Really enjoy the food here. Definitely suggest the fried green tomatoes, billy tomatoes or the fried pickles for an app. All of them are delicious, and when you are having a craving for one of these items - they always are spot on here. Chicken and bacon pasta - WHAT WHAT !!! Slap yourself yummy!!! Shrimp and grits, Bampa and of course the one thing they are really known for - the burgers. All items are delicious and large portions as well. Helpful hint - Tuesday is half price burger night, so definitely take advantage of it !!! Tuesday is also trivia night. Which I have played a few times there, always a good time, with very interesting between round off games of trivia. Great bottle and tap beer selection, eclectic and diverse, which is always a good sign of a great place to try. Atmosphere is laid back, friendly. They did put the green goat on the shelf - too many people would get on top of it to take a pic when it was on the floor. had to protect the goat :(

I am a big fan of the Green Goat. Every time I've gone, it's been a pleasant experience, including great service and awesome food. The burgers are absolutely amazing - I think it might just be the best burger I have ever eaten! They offer delicious specials all the time, so it is hard to decide what to choose! I like their fried green tomatoes, crab cakes and pastas. The shrimp and grits rock. My favorite item is the Grammy's Favorite salad with fried goat cheese, orange slices, cranberries and I like to add blackened shrimp or chicken. I highly recommend trying it out!

I just had takeout chicken and dumplings, and a side of zucchini with peppers and onions, from this place. First, let me say they were very nice on the phone and in person. But I can easily say this is the worst food I have had in Charleston since moving here 3 years ago. Every bite of chicken in my entire order had fat, skin and/or gristle. When you're eating something that looks like a stew with boneless white meat tenders in it, you don't expect to have to pull gross chunks of inedible chicken parts out of your mouth with each bite. Also, the dumplings are mediocre at best and the side of veggies has a very disgusting aftertaste that is kind of plastic and unnatural. I am sorely disappointed and I rarely do this passionate kind of negative review, but this place gets a huge thumbs down. If parts of my order were good or even okay I would have given them a pass.

Green Goat is my favorite underrated restaurant in Charleston. It has a chill laid back vibe and is not pretentious. There is a partitioned bar area too. The food is fresh, locally sourced, and flavorful. My favorites are the Shrimp and Grits (rich creamy grits with perfectly cooked shrimp) and the Grilled Cheese (homemade cheddar and mozzarella!!). My least favorite is the Bampa (breading for the pork cutlet was under seasoned). The wait staff is always friendly and down to earth. Thursday is trivia night. Friday is karaoke. Sat and Sun feature live music. Green Goat gets a solid 4.5 stars from me.

My son says all the reviews on Yelp are not real. Guess he thinks they are Avatars so here goes! We moved to the Charleston area a year ago so we are always looking for places to eat and have hardly graced the doors if a chain restaurant since getting here. Got the Billy Tomatoes. Yum! Husband got the grilled pork chop with collards & goat cheese mashed potatoes. He says Yum! I don't eat collards so that wouldn't be for me but he lets waitstaff order for him all the time and is usually pretty happy trying new things. I ordered the BLFGT Sandwich with the homemade chips. Yum!! The waitstaff are all tatooed which is odd but our waitress was thrilled to choose his meal. She also chose the pistachio pound cake for him and I got the peanut butter cup cheesecake. Both were good! Check it out if you're in the area says this Avatar! Lol!!

Very good. Excited for the gluten free options. Had a great grilled cheese on gf bread. Opted to have pimento cheese and bacon added to it. Pork chops excellent had them blackened. Bill tomatoes good app. Mash potatoes with blue cheese very good. Slaw basic good squash good but not so much with the butter beans. Great value would give it 4.5 if it were an option.

Really was looking forward to this place and overall it was pretty darn good and I will go back. We had so so service although the waitress was super nice. Just not organized. Wrong menu and of course my wife wanted something not on that menu only to be told not available. I really liked my food but wish I had gotten the burger special and was not told about it. It was on the message board but think that a waitress should bring to our attention. My wife got the Shrimp Po Boy and it did not come with the sauce that was supposed to be on it. I got soup and salad and liked mine and thought it was well prepared. So, my promise to the restaurant is that you can get a 4 or even a 5. We will be back. Hoping that it is a better experience which I know it can be because I have heard good of it as well. Those burgers and homemade chips looked good. All day Tuesday! next time.

My concerns/recommendations for the owner: Cut back on the salt!!! We could not eat our vegetables, because they were way too salty. We had the collards and zucchini squash medley.

I'd heard such positive things from friends and Yelp reviewers, so I was excited to try out The Green Goat last week. We came at dinner and were told that there was a wait for the dining area, but we could be seated right away in the bar. We decided to sit in the bar area since we were hungry. The table we were assigned to was wobbly and sticky and we waited for almost 10 minutes before someone came to get our drink order. It was another 15 minutes after our drinks came that someone came to take our order. The food was good, nothing special, but perfectly adequate. We ordered Fried Green Tomatoes, BLFGT sandwich with macaroni & cheese and green beans, the fried pork sandwich with fries and a squash, onion garlic mixture. What we liked: The FGTs were awesome. I loved the addition of the goat cheese, which added another element. The squash side was also really delicious, super flavorful, and much better than what I was expecting. The handcut fries were also great. What we didn't like: Beer cheese works great for pretzels, but as a macaroni dish it was not as pleasant as I wanted it to be. The green beans were totally bland and flavorless. The pork sandwich, which I was super excited about, was a huge disappointment. Something about the breading tasted off and I ended up only eating about half of the sandwich. I just couldn't get past it. Maybe it's a personal preference, but I've never had anything like that happen with pork sandwiches past. During the meal, I got up to grab ketchup off of another table and when she saw me, one of the servers said "Oh, I would've gotten that for you!" Which is great, except no one had come up to check on us since they took our orders, so when would I have had the opportunity to ask for anything? After we finished eating, I had to go up to the bar to ask for our checks because we still hadn't had anyone come by to check on us. I definitely wouldn't recommend sitting in the bar area. Just wait the 10 minutes to be served in the dining area and hopefully you'll get some actual service. Although the food was good, I think the terrible service that we received colored my whole experience negatively. Maybe I'll be willing to give it another try. I've heard brunch is good. But with so many good restaurants in Charleston, this definitely won't be at the top of my list anytime soon.

I wanted to like this place a lot more than I did. I'd heard good things about their gluten free items, and they have GF pasta and buns, so that sounded awesome. I ended up with some grilled catfish, oysters, goat cheese mashed potatoes, and butter beans. While I enjoyed the taste of the food, and the cross contamination was mild (still felt it though), I don't think I'll come back. I'm not sure what it was, if it was the ambiance in there or the server telling me that she doesn't know what gluten is because she "doesn't eat healthy" and laughing raucously, or what, but there was just something ... meh. Hopefully people have a better experience than the one we had.

Pretty good food, but the service is TERRIBLE. It isn't everyone there, it's just the one waitress but she is always the only one working during the day when we go in.

Never. Ever. Again. Gross.

Nice spot

Great local spot in West Ashley. Fresh, true homemade food with restaurant flair. Friendly staff, fun atmosphere.

All day Tuesday! next time.

The food made me vomit. Don't get the wings or the steak special. Stop anywhere else on the way home from downtown.
