One of the best BBQ joints I've tried. Will definitely come back again. They had steady business keeping them full the whole time we were there. Friendly and informed staff. Had the pulled pork with mac n cheese and coleslaw. I am a coleslaw snob and I loved it! By far the best ive tasted outside of my own. It was so fresh I felt like theyd just picked the veggies when I ordered. :) the bbq was excellent. tried the white sauce which was delish but the meat was great without any sauce too. Mac and cheese was like homemade and melt in your mouth yummy. The drink menu is extensive and waiter knew his stuff. Great knowledge and descriptions. Had the royal swine and was very happy. To end the night I tried the chocolate pecan pie. ALOT of pecans and crust was really moist and good...lacked the chocolate and creamy sauce between pecans. I felt like I just got a handful of pecans with a crust.

I'm completely clueless as to how this place has gotten such rave reviews. Maybe I just happened to go on a bad night, or maybe all 134 reviewers have just never been to Jim and Nick's, Home Team or any decent barbecue joint in their entire lives. Who knows. Our experience started off with bad service...namely our waitress taking 20 minutes to bring us drinks, during which time I watched her take and fill drink orders for 2 different tables. When she finally brought ours she didn't apologize, nor seem to even realize that taking 20 minutes to simply carry 3 drinks from the bar to a table is unacceptable. But forget about service. Lets talk about the food. I ordered the brisket plate with mac & cheese and rice & hash as my sides. The brisket was cold, dry, chewy, and pretty much flavorless. I pretty much always order brisket when I visit a BBQ joint for the first time, because I feel like any good BBQ joint should be able to serve up a good brisket. Well, apparently Swig & Swine cannot make good brisket. It sucked. The mac & cheese was okay but very under seasoned. The hash & rice was also under seasoned, not to mention the rice was under cooked. My meal also came with a piece of white bread and some pickle slices on it. I love pickles, but these just tasted like pure vinegar. They have a decent little selection of craft beers, but not great. I will say that their selection of bourbon was very impressive. But that's about all the place had going for it as far as I'm concerned. The food, simply put, was bad.

This place was very good ,the quality was great. The only reason I didn't give it five stars is the brisket seemed a little dry. The pork belly is over-the-top -the chopped pork was fantastic as well as the ribs. , Mac and cheese to die for ! Really like their sauces .great craft beer selection and very good service -I would go back again for sure

Recently my party of four and I all got food poisoning.... Some other friends recently reported the same thing... Watch out.

Sorry swig & swine. I was not impressed. I really wanted to like you. This place is very busy. It's hard to get a parking spot, so we parked a few businesses down the road. I am not docking your rating because of parking. I am giving swig & swine a low rating because of the food. All of the food was sweet. That may appeal to some people, but not my kind of BBQ ... unless you have some good sauces. All of the sauces were sweet too! Even the mustard sauce was sweet. I am not a huge fan of spicy food, but I think you should have a range of sauces. They offered a house made jalapeño bbq sauce which was sweet too. You couldn't really tell there were any jalapeños in it. The other option was Tabasco sauce. I had the pulled pork, the beans, and pickled veggies. The beans and veggies were so sweet. I felt sick after eating. The pork was super dry. My boyfriend had the house made sausage which was great and the Mac and cheese which also was great. We had pimento cheese as an appetizer - standard for pimento cheese. The beer selection was mediocre with no standouts. I would expect much more from a place with swig in their name. They did have a pretty large moonshine menu though.

Mmm... bbq. I went here twice while visiting Charleston. It's not downtown, bit it's a very short drive, and definitely worth it. I tried the brisket, sausage, pork belly and ribs for the meats. The ribs were probably my favorite, followed by the pork belly, sausage, and then the brisket. My brisket was on the dry side, but everything else was incredible. As for the sides, the macaroni and cheese was my favorite, followed by the baked beans, and the collard greens. Again, all of them were great. They have 4 different kinds of bbq sauce on the table to suit your preference, but don't hesitate to get creative by mixing them! I was partial towards mixing the thin vinegar based bbq sauce with the mustard based bbq. But they also had some kind of misquete sauce that they keep in the back. Make sure you ask for that... it's good stuff! And don't forget the beer! They have an excellent selection.

Simply awesome barbeque! My husband and I got the family platter and yes it could feed 4 people. There were 7 smoked meats- turkey (good, not dry), pulled pork (nice barks & flavorful), smoked sausage (juicy with a nice snap), brisket (tender with a nice pull and great smoke ring), pork belly (my favorite. It was tender & all that pork fat is just scrumptious), and ribs (has a wonderful rub, we'll smoked and falling off the bones) & wings (sweet & sticky). The platter came with 3 sides. We chose Brunswick stew (sweet with a kick, a little too tomato-ey for me, but it was chocked full of meat. I didn't see a Lima bean until I was at the bottom of the bowl), hash & rice (it was good, nothing bad to say about it), and baked potato salad (also a good choice). My sister and her husband got a family platter also and for their sides got mac n cheese (creamy & delish), collard greens (yummy) and hash & rice. The staff was very friendly. Manager walked around to say hello & thanked folks for coming by. Would love to come back the next time I'm in town. Heard their beef ribs and boudain are also yummy.

First the service and hospitality. Everyone was on point and nice, the food came out quick, we sat at the prep dining table and could try anything they prepared, and the owner Anthony was very nice. The BBQ was awesome. Two of us had ribs and one had smoked turkey and beef brisket. All was delicious. The sides were very tasty as well. Tons of food for what you paid for. When I come back to town I will plan to come back. While we got in...be prepared to wait as it's always packed. I also recommend the buttermilk pie for dessert...very tasty.

The BBQ here is the best I've ever had. The skill to cook amazing food and create amazing dining experiences comes largely from Swig & Swine creator Steve Kish and his masterful employees. Swig & Swine is a 3rd sister dining establishment from the 30 year veterans of great food from the famous 82 Queen, 2nd sister Low Country Bistro, aka ( LB's ) on Market St. downtown. The menu has all your typical BBQ sides and I am sure everyone will be impressed with its flavor

We went on Saturday night as a party of four. The place was packed but getting a table was swift. Their parking is very limited for the amount of business they do. The Chinese buffet next door looks like they want to light Swig & Swine on fire. Their lot was empty and filled with towing signs. We parked at the grocery store and walked over, no big deal. Boyfriend and I tried the 6 wings, 2 meat plate with pulled pork and brisket, coleslaw and potato salad. The wings are smoked and coated in a sweet sauce similar to a BBQ married with teriyaki. 6 for $6. They were good but now that we're talking about them as I post this review, $6 is a lot for 6 wings even if it's become the norm. The pulled pork was delicious. Soft and tender, large pieces with burnt ends is what showed up on our tray. The brisket came in sliced, smoke ring about 1/4 inch across the top. Also succulent and delicious. Boyfriend ate it all when I wasn't looking and he didn't even know he liked brisket. The coleslaw was very fresh and crunchy. The potato salad was amazing, I am not a potato salad person and I was going to town. Boyfriend just yelled, "the potato salad! So close to my heart, so good". Both sides were a decent portion size. We split the two meat platter with two sides because it was a better price than each getting a one meat with a side. Two meat with pork and brisket was $16 vs. one meat pulled pork $12, one meat brisket $15. I'm sure you get more meat on a one meat but we were fine sharing. Our friends got a 2 meat and a 3 meat. Had enough food to take home. They tried the macncheese and collards, both rave reviews. The drink menu is awesome, I had a hard time narrowing my choice down. I had the ginger basil cocktail, not too sweet, not too spicy and $7. I could've drank several. Service was friendly and normal. No twee "I'll be your server tonight" nonsense. Overall, we would be repeat offenders here if we weren't moving to Charlotte in a week!

Amazing meats (turkey, chicken, ribs, brisket, sausage, pork shoulder, beef), great beer selection, delicious sides, great value. Get the platter if you've got 3+ people, and still take home leftovers. It's amazing this place has any low reviews; clearly hipsters determined to disparage anything receiving otherwise universal acclaim. The hipsters can be safely ignored.

Home Team BBQ, er, I mean Swig and Swine is now open on Savannah Highway! I have driven by this place for what it seems like weeks now, lusting over the idea of smoked meats, fatty sides and the eventual heart attack that will hopefully send me the way of Maya Angelou. While the sign said the grand opening wasn't until June 15, the number of cars there couldn't fool me. After realizing Glass Onion neutered their Saturday lunch (I mean, order at a counter and still pay $14 for a plate? Lulzyeahrite), I walked next door and was happily taken in. The first thing I noticed was the size of the people inside. Man, everyone in this place was enormous! From beer guts to elbow rolls and everything in between! The food must be good! The hostess sat me at the meat bar where I was able to watch all kinds of fat meats get transferred from the smoker to the kitchen. A nice boy even gave me free samples of the sausage and pork belly, one which is basically pure fat and the other pure fat in a sausage casing! I could feel the lipids building up in my arteries, and that alone was probably the reason why I nearly passed out running today. I ordered the 3 meat platter to share with collards and baked beans, to ensure I'd have smooth bowel movements afterwards, which is a big concern considering the amount of blood I've had in my stools as of late. Every morning is a new surprise! Swig and Swine gets 3 stars because I have already given out 5 stars once this month, and if I start giving out good ratings too often, you'll stop taking me seriously. Overall, they can definitely smoke meat, but the rub has much to be desired. Any place that requires me to use sauce automatically loses two stars. The sides were excellent though, and I'm happy to report the gas you'll have afterwards will sear off the eyebrows of anyone around you, so proceed at your own caution.

I tried Swig and Swine at a Taste of Charleston event in September of last year. Given that the restaurant offered some of the most delicious options available at the event, I though I'd visit the restaurant when I returned to Charleston several months later for Valentine's Day. Unfortunately, the mac and cheese that I remembered fondly from my trip last fall wasn't anywhere near as good. I'm a huge fan of mac and cheese and the quality of a restaurant's mac and cheese often makes or breaks my experience at a restaurant. Swig and Swine's mac and cheese fell way short and wasn't worth the calorie bomb of greasy noodles that I was served. My husband really enjoyed his beef brisket however so that somewhat salvaged our experience.

Tasty food. A little on the pricey side, but quality is there. Service was a little slow and parking is very difficult. Overall a great place to treat yourself for lunch.

This place is getting a ton of hype and I don't really understand it. I read the following review in The City Paper. charlestoncitypaper.com/… Typically, I don't put a ton of stock in a review like this but it was pretty much spot-on. Here's my assessment: Pimento Cheese - Average Pulled Pork - average at best - most of my friends do a much better job...much better Sausage - probably the best thing i had - was good Mac and Cheese - Average at best Potato Salad - good - nice sour cream touch Service - below average - very slow..this was on a Thursday night...were not overly busy. Good beer selection. Over priced, over-hyped. Not impressed.

Heard so many good things about this place so decided to try it out. As we pulled in the first thing to jump out was the serious lack in parking. I was able to find parking but my friend had to park in the grocery store lot a block away. (Don't park in the Japanese restaurant parking-they will tow you). Walking up to the building you can smell the BBQ, it was sooo awesome. The menu is very limited. If you don't like BBQ or chicken wings then this isn't your place. They have a selection of craft beers that were really good. And their dessert menu has around 10 options. The hash & rice was excellent and the Mac n cheese was very good. Definitely recommend.

Was in town visiting family and when we saw the name of the place driving by I said we had to eat there. Weren't expecting much but holy moly - food was a great surprise! We had the Sausage and cheese appetizer which comes with big scoop of pimento cheese (home made and excellent!) several cubes of sharp cheese, a thick sausage link sliced in about 10 pieces, and half pkg ritz crackers. Was plenty for 3 of us, but then we had lunch coming - I had pulled pork sandwich and a side - portions plenty. This was also the first time I had 'white BBQ sauce' which i found outta this world! Fun atmosphere and will definitely be back.

I'm torn. It wasn't horrible but there are several BBQ places, in the area, I like a lot more. I say I'm torn because this was definitely good BBQ, it just wasn't my taste. I could definitely see how people would love it and my husband loved the beer selection.

  • Connie F.

Great BBQ great beer and great serving sizes. Usually when a restaurant opens I feel that portion sizes are tiny and I left this place with Half of my appetizer and about 3/4s of my sandwich because I was so full! Pimento cheese appetizer was a great deal at 5 bucks. Pulled pork BBQ sandwich is the way to go. For a new restaurant they are definitely getting off on the right foot!

The family BBQ platter is amazing if you want to try everything on the menu - it fed four of us with leftovers! The potato salad and beef brisket were favorites, and the peach cobbler... Wow! Great service - Chelsea was awesome - and drinks were delicious. Check it out!

As much as I am a fan of potato salad I didn't particularly love theirs. Aside from that everything I tried was delish!!! The rice and hash was great eventhough I've never liked hash all that much, baked beans with brisket was savory sweet and overall hearty. Amazing!!! My first time eating pork belly which was well seasoned, tender and plentiful. The brisket had a unique flavor as it was covered in the homemade sauce and the ribs had a thick coat of dry rub seasoning. Ribs were probably my least favorite of all the meats and that was very surprising. Good variety of flavored moonshine as well. Definitely must stop here if you're visiting Charleston as we were.

Swig & Swine has the best brisket in Charleston! It pairs well with their Alabama white sauce, a side of spicy collard greens, and a side of savory mac and cheese. Their ribs are also phenomenal, and they have a variety of beers on tap.

Need evidence for the existence of a benevolent cosmic overlord, look no further than Swig & Swine in Charleston. During our vacation in Charleston, my wife and I thought catching a sunset at Folly Beach was a good idea. We were wrong. The beach is a cesspool of trust fund hippies looking for some Southern fun. "You will never find a more wretched hive of scrum and villainy," in the form of upper class college students with dreadlocks. The bloat of humanity Folly Beach experiences in the summer is horrifying. After escaping the unfortunate hippy nightmare, we found Swig & Swine on Yelp. It was the antidote we need. The staff was welcoming and knowledgeable and the half rack of pork ribs was the closest thing you'll have to a religious experience in the city. The sides and sauces are also amazing. Try the collards, mac and cheese, potato salad, spicy slaw, and the Alabama-style barbeque sauce. If you are visiting Charleston and want incredible barbecue at a reasonable price, do yourself a favor and eat at Swig & Swine.

LOVE LOVE LOVE this place!! Best BBQ in town by far to me!! This place just opened a few months ago, EVERYTHING and I do mean EVERYTHING is awesome! The Brisket is my favorite. Love there Hash, and Potato Salad! Wait staff is average I guess could use a smile and some sunshine in there lives.. Pretty much sums it up! GO support this local establishment it a BBQ Gem! FYI Parking at this plae is AWFUL! I can never get in or out of the parking lot nor is there ever parking so I gotta park next door at the shopping center parking lot and walk only complaint about this place but honestly worth the walk. :)

Go on and dot your map with this place as 5 star BBQ. They did it right by offering top shelf whiskey along with their excellent BBQ meat. Pork belly, pulled pork, brisket, I tried them and I was pleased. Their mac&cheese was great - not too decadent so you can save room for pig. Along with a comfortable atmosphere, friendly and fast service, there is nothing not to love.

We needed wifi and were looking for a snack and a beer. Decided to give Swig and Swine a try since we'd driven past it a couple times. Swig and Swine met our requirements and then totally surpassed any expectations we might have had. The staff was very friendly and helpful/knowledgeable on the food and beer selection. We're only in town for a short bit but we'll be returning to try some more of their tasty food and beverage selection. Some quick food recommendations: -Brisket is very well prepared, served dry so you can add your own sauce but taste the meat before drowning it in sauce. It's quite tasty on its own. -Turkey is amazing. I love a good turkey leg now and then but never considered it BBQ fare... until now. Again, quite tasty served dry but the white sauce is a nice compliment. -Beverage selection is pretty solid. They'll let you taste the drafts if you're unfamiliar with the flavors.

Consistently awesome service and some of the best bbq out there. The family platter is a fantastic deal, for a group of four it's ten bucks a person and had enough to have leftovers. The pork belly is a must!

BEST BBQ EVER! I stopped here on a road trip (coming from Chicago), chose the 3 meat with brisket, sausage, and another meat, pork belly? and sides as mac and cheese and hash and rice, holy sh*t it was amazing!!!!!! I also had the coconut custard pie and that was amazing too. I was talking to one of the locals at the City Market and they said I made the right call by going to Swig & Swine. If I'm in the area again, definitely coming back.

Primary reason for 2 stars: BBQ was dry and salty. Also didn't like that the parking was full so we were forced to walk through the dumpster area to get to restaurant.

MUST GO! Showed up on a Friday night with 3 kids & a 45 min wait but we went for it & so glad we did. Great microbrews, phenomenal food & exceptional service!! Thanks you guys!!!

Exceptionally delicious. Best mac n'cheese I've ever had and the Brisket flavor was out of this world. The meat itself could have been just slightly more tender but it was amazing overall. Didn't expect to find a place this good in Charleston but they know their BBQ I guess!

My first taste of southern bbq! We got all the specials off the menu and each was exquisite. In particular the spicy pig ears were amazing. For the price and given the atmosphere, I would come everyday if I lived there.

Absolutely delicious!! Plenty of food and every bite was amazing! Server was not stellar, and had a bit of an attitude. However, since they are just opening, we will not hold that against them. I think this will definitely be (if not already), a hot spot in West Ashley!

I moved to South Carolina 6 years ago and fell in love with Carolina barbeque. I live in Greenville, and I have found my favorite places to feed my addiction. So when I took a trip to Charleston and was told a place had the best BBQ in the city, I had to try it. We arrived fairly early on a Friday evening and the place was already packed. Good sign, I think. We're told that there will be a short wait, so we decide to grab a drink from the bar while we wait. They had a great selection of craft and local beers on hand. That made waiting a lot easier. We were seated relatively quickly and decided to grab the meat and cheese board appetizer to allow us to try a variety of their meats, along with some of their pimento cheese (another Southern favorite.) Our appetizer came out, but without crackers for the pimento cheese. We asked if we could have some and were told 'Absolutely!' but , sadly, no crackers ever came. That's ok though, we just put the cheese right on the meat. And boy was the meat delicious! Tender and flavorful, it got me excited for the pulled pork I had coming my way. With such a good start, you're probably starting to wonder why I only give them 2 stars. The answer is plain and simple: the sauce. As I remember (as this was last week and they were quite unmemorable) they had 3 types of BBQ sauce and one horseradish type sauce. And none of them had any flavor whatsoever. OK, the vinegar-based sauce tasted like vinegar, but other flavors in it were not to be found. Even the horseradish sauce lacked any flavor or spice. So while the meat was good, without a good sauce, it just ain't BBQ. The sides I had were fairly tasty, so I can't write off this place completely. They wouldn't be my first choice for a repeat visit, but if I do go back, I'm sneaking in a bottle of Sweet Baby Ray's...

I dropped by here last week after a period of really wanting to try the place out; I'm a fan of good barbecue, and a place associating itself with that as well as craft beer is pretty much an automatic draw. As it so happens, Charleston Restaurant Week is going on now, and so I opted for their special - three meats, two sides, and an appetizer/dessert on top of that. The sides were pretty nice - I went for the hash and rice plus the mac and cheese. The former was pretty good; I don't think I've had enough hash and rice to fairly judge it, but I can definitely say the mac and cheese was very tasty. Great as they were, though, they pale in comparison to the meats. I decided on smoked turkey, beef brisket, and pork belly for mine (note to future diners: there's an upcharge for each of the last two meats!), and each selection was absolutely stellar. I particularly felt pleased with the pork belly; I usually don't go for that, but it was an enticing option, and definitely one that paid off. Their array of sauces also pairs very well with the recommended meats, and I say that as someone who usually abstains from sauce out of the belief that barbecue meat should speak for itself with regards to flavor. The draft selection was also pretty nice - plenty of options in comparison to many other joints, and the choice for a 10oz pour rather than a full one was nice too. Regarding the service, I chose to sit at the bar, so ordering was a very quick ordeal. I was, however, shocked at how quickly my meal came out! Kudos to the folks in the kitchen for their promptness. I think my only complaint about the place is how little parking there is around the venue proper. There's plenty of room for patrons, but not enough for their transportation. In any case, the Swig & Swine is very much worth visiting.

Totally worth it! Great BBQ and really great value. We ordered the pimento cheese starter, which was served with pickled veggies. Delicious and only $5 for a generous amount. We ran out of crackers on the appetizer and a manager noticed and brought more over. For the main course, we got the family platter (there were 3 of us) and had leftovers for dinner the next night. Amazing deal and a great way to try it all. For the sides, we highly recommend the mac & cheese, beans with brisket, and cole slaw. We came famished and left extremely satisfied. Also, great selection of beers on tap and fun interior. Great place for a date or night out.

Maybe the best BBQ I've ever had. The Salt Lick in Driftwood TX might be the only place better. Amazing ribs, brisket, pulled pork. Excellent sauces, four different kinds and a good drink menu.

Service was excellent. Side dishes were creative. The sauces different and the brisket was melt-in-your - mouth. Server helped with beer selection . Local beer was great.

My husband and I shared the two meat platter - and still took some home! We ordered the pulled pork {great} and the brisket {a little dry}. Our sides were the pickles, which were good, and the brunswick stew. The stew was only edible with a fork and was very greasy. Maybe the bottom of the pot? The atmosphere is loud and fun, and we liked their sauces. I'd have the pulled pork again, but I'll skip the stew.

Sad. Went there once and it was as good as I've ever had. Now I went back Sunday evening 11.9.13 and it was the worst I've ever had. Pulled pork extremely dry and tough and the brisket was dry too! Service the first time was amazing. Service the second time was not great. Hope this place gets their stuff together because it was so amazing the first time.

First time I had the brisket, it was good. Not great, but certainly not bad by any means. Second time? PHENOMENAL. Period. Top it off with sides of mac n' cheese and beans n' brisket and it's heavenly. Prices are reasonable for the portions, as well. I'll be back regularly, guaranteed.

I have never had barbecue that tasted like that! It was such a pleasant meal! We got the family platter and intended on taking some home. That was an amazing amount of food. I left so satisfied. The flavor was fantastic and if I'm EVER nearby, this is my first choice for BBQ for lunch or dinner, hands down!!

Fourth Trip. Never Disappoints !!! This is a great place to take someone to lunch. Barbecue is great, Burnt Ends are awesome, but the Brisket is the best item on the menu. Love the baked potato salad and mac & cheese, but the baked beans were a little too sweet for my liking. Personal taste, I suppose. 4 stars because of the inadequate parking.

My husband & I have eaten at numerous BBQ restaurants on the east coast & we both agree this was the best! My husband had the beef brisket & pork belly plate with mac & cheese & baked potatoe potatoe salad sides and I had the pulled pork sandwich with a side of coleslaw. All was so delicious, but for me it was the sweet BBQ sauce that made it the best. Definitely reccommend!

Best BBQ ever! We got the family platter which had a sample of everything and couldn't not finish it. It feeds 4 adults easily! The wings were fantastically smoky, the ribs had a delicious rub and fell off the bone, brisket was tender and juicy, turkey was super flavorful, pork belly tasted almost like bacon, and pulled pork was simply perfect. Great selection of beers and even moonshine. My new favorite BBQ spot!

I got takeout tonight and the food was just OK. Had pulled pork and pork belly with rice & hash (dry) and mac & cheese (soso). I think Bessengers up the street is better at less $. My check was 27.00 with a domestic beer waiting and tip. Pretty expensive take out.

This is the best BBQ in charleston hands down! Every time we go the food is on point and I've never once seen it not busy. My favorites are the brisket, homemade sausage and smoked turkey. They really do BBQ right and I would highly recommend it!

This place is great! Some of the best BBQ I've had in a while. Our party consisted of four people, my boyfriend and I went with another couple who have dined here before. We got the family platter, seven different kinds of meat and three sides for only $38 and we still had leftovers! The ribs, wings, potato salad, mac-n-cheese, and collard greens were my favorite but everything was sensational. We also tried the blueberry cheese pie and pecan pie and both were outstanding. Must try when in charleston!

SERVICE: quick, friendly, knowledgeable. AMBIANCE: creative, quaint, casual. I really like the garage doors they've turned into windows. Main course: brisket (5/5), Mac n chz (4/5), hash (5/5). Dessert: banana pudding. (4/5), wish it had more chunks of banana 'cause that's how i like it! This is some of the best que I've had in south carolina. Highly recommended!

You know when something is just done right and running on all calendars? That is the Swig and Swine. Staff who of all ages with the right game make the place fun. The food completely speaks for itself. No odd salads that could be sides of unusual 40.00 whole fish with no side on this menu. Straight up delicious food, served well, with twists and turns. Wet wings, Alabama White sauce with three others on the table (I have been told that natives us this for poultry generally) as well as awesome sides like the baked potato salad (a must...) Fast service. Fresh clean trays. Great atmosphere that is not contrived and feels organic. The ring on the brisket is enough to get me back.....

We went to the 'soft' opening of this true BBQ restaurant. Everything is new and I'm sure they will do well. Excellent choice and taste. Had Kielbasa sausage and pulled pork. The sausage could have been a little more spicy but the overall taste and quality was first rate. Beans and brisket as a side plus baked potato salad - very well done. Service was exceptional (thanks Sarah) and although they only received their alcohol license a couple of hours previously she did everything to get me a couple of cold ones of choice ! I wish the new company well. It is obvious the owners know barbecue and how to keep customers happy.

The food is great. Very flavorful !! Service is friendly. (Sat at the bar). Alisha was very friendly and attentive. Great barbecue sauce selections. Loved the sweet red bbq sauce!! Beef brisket was tender. Beans delicious. Great place to stop to catch a great brew and bbq. if you like blues music, this is your spot. Overall, excellent!

If you are visiting Charleston, this is the place to come for some good BBQ! Everything I have ever eaten here is amazing. For sides I especially love the Mac n cheese and potato salad! There is also a fantastic beer selection here! You can't go wrong with Swig and Swine. Mmmmm.

Had the opportunity to finally stop by swig and swine for dinner last night. Bottom line - excellent !!! Ribs were cooked perfectly, and my wife and daughter walked away with the same outcome - this place is a place we will certainly visit again and again. Anthony took the time to tell us the history of his restaurant and introduced us to his home made dessert of buttermilk pie ( NOT a buttermilk fan, but this pie ?? Unbelievably good !! )

One of the best BBQ places I have ever been to! We were very surprised by how good it was. We shared the platter between 3 people with beans, Mac and cheese, and pickled veggies between 3 people but it could be for 4. All three sides were fantastic , especially the Mac and cheese. As for the bbq, the wings, brisket, and pulled pork were phenomenal. The turkey and sausage were good but not out of this world and the pork belly had a subtle flavor. I highly recommend it and can't wait to go back.

My husband made the choice to try out this place and I'm so glad he did! The service was great, food was at our table super fast, and it was worth every penny! There were five people in our group( 2 adults, and three kids) and the family platter was more than enough with leftovers to take home. This will be a regular spot for us!

Swig and swine is the best bbq I've had in a while. My boyfriend and I ordered the family platter, so we could try everything. it was delicious! We had a ton of leftovers which was awesome! They have a huge beer selection, and very yummy dessert! I would definitely recommend swig and swine if you want some good BBQ!

Food was incredible with great smoked brisket and pork rinds and pie. SERVICE - Manager was horrible. They wanted to set-up a large party near us and use our table. We were GLARED at to leave long before we were ready. Then crowded with 2 people of the big party just standing beside their table (and ours) until we finally couldn't take it anymore. We asked to speak to the Manager and he was rude and said he was just doing his job. Well, if his job is to offend customers, he did well.

One of the top three BBQ places I've ever been to, and I've been to several up and down the east cost. The Pulled Pork has deep smoke flavor, moist meat with just enough salt/spice, and a nice char on it - does not get much better. If that weren't enough to get 5 stars, what really puts this place over the top are the amazing sides (I had the beans w/ brisket and brunswick stew) and excellent selection of brews on tap. The atmosphere is excellent for a BBQ place - from the delicious smell of BBQ smoke coming from the front of the building to the clean, well-decorated layout. The service was very good - friendly and fast; I sat at the bar and had good conversation with the bartender, Justin. The other two over-the-top BBQ places that rank up there with this one (in case you're wondering) are the Smokin' Pig in Clemson, SC, and Hubba Hubba Smokehouse in Flat Rock, NC.

Just awesome BBQ. Briquette and burnt ends are fantastic. Pork sandwich is great. Ask for the habanero BBQ sauce. And don't forget the best Macci Cheese in Charleston.

Best BBQ in Charleston. Family platter is beyond worthy of every penny. An amazing deal. The meats were outstanding. The collards were also the best we've had. Please give this place a try!

Came here on the recommendation of our ghost tour guide. She was spot on, food was fabulous. The hash and rice is yum. The brisket melts in your mouth and the smoked wings were delicious. Luckily this was our last night in town or we would have been here every night.

Went to Swig & Swine for a family outing around lunch on Sunday and it was a little crowded. Ordered a three meat platter for two, and man was it plenty of food! The macaroni and cheese was fantastic. The pulled pork was juicy and tender. The pork belly was amazing. The brisket was weirdly cooked - some parts were tender and others were overcooked. I wasn't a fan of ANY of the sauces, but the pulled pork was so good that it didn't matter as much.. would definitely go again!

Authentic BBQ. Smoker right in the parking lot! Loved the ribs, turkey and pulled pork. The baked beans and Mac n cheese were made from scratch too. Staff was great too and very friendly.

Wow. We actually stumbled on this for an early Sunday lunch because our original destination (Glass Onion - next door) was closed. This was not a disappointment. Great local beer selection and very helpful waitstaff. I went with the Choose Two platter and had a nice mix of pulled pork and brisket. Both were very good but the brisket really stood out. So tender I didn't need a knife. Loved having a variety of sauces there to choose from - they do a nice job with the NC style vinegar sauce. Finally, get the collard greens. They were outstanding, with an interesting taste that reminded us of home made pork and cabbage from Eastern Europe. May sound a little strange but it was a great compliment to the BBQ.

Was never a big fan of bbq, slowly came around trying different spots, and finally found a place that turned my world around:) love the array of sauces and the sides aren't some greasy fried stuff. Talk about gourmet potato salad and collard greens, prolly the best I've had around. The beer selection is great as well. Every time I'm stopping by or dinning in the service is very nice and helpful. Dangerous I live close by lol

Hands down the BEST BBQ in Charleston! Visiting from out of town for my 7th time or so a friend took us here and this place knocked our socks off. I was told to to add a disclamer that we have been to the top four restaurants and Swig and Swine is by far the best! First off the service is very prompt and very hospitable. We were told of the many craft beers on tap which in and of itself was a great quality of a restaurant. Ordered the delicious smoked wings for an appetizer which were very good and tender and came out very fast. Draw the curtains because what came next was more of an epic journey than a quick sit down dinner with friends. Being five of us total we ordered the family platter as suggested by my friend. I had my doubts that there would be enough to satisfy us all, especially only being priced $34. the platter arrived within 10 minutes and I was pleasantly surprised at the amount of meat and sides presented in front of us. There was Ribs, smoked turkey, pulled pork, brisket, pork belly, smoked wings and amazing sausage. Plus three heaping sides which we chose Mac and Chesse, Brunswick stew, and beans with brisket. The sides alone added another meat option. I could write a couple pages of the amazing tastes and flavors of the meal we enjoyed but will keep it brief. All of the meat was very tender, even the smoked turkey which is usually pretty hard to do. The ribs were fall off the bone, and it was unfortunate there were only five because I would have eaten them all. The brisket are what BBQ dreams are made of, juicy, tender, rich in flavor and melted in your mouth. The sausage was phenonemeal and I will be returning before I leave for another plate of these homemade links of the gods and a pound or two to take with me back home. Yes, they sell all of their meats by the pound if you choose. The smoked turkey and pork belly were cooked with love, any other way and it would have been dry thick slices, but these were done right and the time took to cook them showed! Lastly the pulled pork was one of the best I have had. By itself was of legend but paired with any four of their sauces makes this dish one that will be welcome in my dreams until I can return! The sides stood alone in this meal time adventure bringing thier own merits to the table. The mac and cheese was homemade as well with shells and cheese that was a personal favorite of my girlfriend. The Brunswich stew was by far my favorite side with meats, corn, semi-brothy goodness, and lima beans. The complexity of flavors made everyone at the table craving more. The brisket and beans again added more meat to the mix and the beans were perfectly cooked and the hint of BBQ made them divine. So to answer the question, yes it was plenty of food for five, it could have been enough for seven. This meal train did not stop there. Being originally from the south and not having much options up north for some good peach cobbler, I had to get one ala mode. By far the very Best peach cobbler I have eaten! Sugary crunchy crust though out the freshest peaches and filling. Needless to say I will be getting more of that before I depart as well. Kudos to this place and I urge anyone in the Charleston area to stop by because this is your favorite BBQ joint even before you eat here!

Mmm, banana pudding. The BEST banana pudding ever! We happened to make it into S&S before the crowd got there on a Sunday. (The boy refuses to wait anywhere. Ever. We've attempted four times between our first time and this time, but always Mister Poop says 'no waiting.') Anyso, we sat at the bar (great ladies back there), and ordered a couple pints. A round of beers in, we decided to get a lil something to eat: the house made pimento cheese. There was nothing "lil" about it. A cheese ball that could serve through any festive party was plunked down in front of us minutes later with ritz crackers and their amazing homemade pickled stuff - carrots, cukes and okra. Tasty tasty. A couple crackers in, and intimidation of the ball not getting any smaller set in. Besides, we came for the meat. So, we put the cheese aside. Fortunately, it was Restaurant Week. So, we shared the special: 3 meats, 2 sides and a dessert. (Mmmm, banana pudding.) Pork belly was top notch. The absolute best in town. The smoked turkey was awesome (tho, it was slightly dryer than the first time we came), and finally got our hands on the brisket. Good brisket. Really good. Collards were amazing. (Gotta eat your greens!) The boy, for some reason, wanted hash and rice. Sigh. Sorry, wasn't a fan. It just didn't fit with the other flavors. Shoulda gotten the tater salad (which is great!) Another round of beers and a reminder to save room for dessert. Damn... ok. Already getting full, tho. So, about 1/3 of the meal and 3/4 of the cheese are going home with us. (Not complaining.) So the question was posed: what to have for dessert? The obvious choices for dessert out were the brownie pie and the peach cobbler. Uh uh, I wanted that banana pudding. That amazing, perfectly sweetened, ice box cold, chunks of not-mushy bananas and amazing nilla-waferesque bits homemade banana pudding. Oh sweet love of banana pudding. I have to say it again... banana pudding.

Pulled pork was very dry, but both the pork belly and the brisket were tasty. Sauce selection was ok (we had to ask for the jalapeño red sauce). For sides, the hash and rice was flavorful and not too runny...slaw was great (hint: add spicy vinegar sauce)...and baked potato salad was good but very mayonnaisey. Overall, atmosphere was all right and this is definitely a good place to go for some tasty BBQ.

My daughter and I visited here on opening day, staff was very friendly and very helpful. As for the barbecue, is the best we've had in forever. We both left feeling like stuffed Ticks. I hope this business is here for a long time, and we wish them the best of luck. We may actually stop by here on the way back to Tennessee. Loved it!

The good: Brisket was wonderful. Brunswick Stew side was divine, baked potato salad was yummy. The decor inside was fine and I thought the seating was comfortable. The shirts the staff wore were hilarious: I like Pig Butts and I know it, Get swiggity with it, etc. The bad: Our server did not know the salad dressings and had to go ask someone (I believe he then recited 3) Bar orders took way too long (beer). Our server also never brought out the salad dressing we ordered so I had to flag down another server. Their drink menu was much larger than their food options, maybe that is what they want. I thought $14.00 was expensive for a brisket platter. The inexcusable: My friend could not get chicken on her salad because they ran out! They also ran out of banana pudding and these two travesties occurred at 7 PM on a Tuesday night!

On a trip from up north we came here after passing it on Savannah Highway and being intrigued by the name. Best beef brisket and ribs! Also you'll want to get at least one dessert : we had peanut butter and brownie pie and it lasted for two days. Great service and a must go to in Charlestown.

How full is the parking lot? This is often a good measure of a restaurant. However Swig & Swine needs a much bigger parking lot so they can fit even more vehicles. I have had Bar-B-Que all over the country and this place is among the best. I'm already looking forward to my next visit to Charleston, so we can eat here again. We went here on a recommendation from a local. They were having a three meat special. So I tried their pulled pork, ribs, and beef brisket. The pulled pork really does melt in your mouth. The beef brisket was fall apart tender. Finally, the ribs were excellent. The meat was tender and the rub was fantastic. The staff was extremely friendly and very helpful. I look forward to visiting again.

My new favorite BBQ spot. We tried just about everything; ribs, brisket, sausage, and pulled pork. My friends raved about the house made sausage! Pulled pork was my favorite. All had tons of great smoke flavor!!! Staff was very nice. Plenty of extra parking at leased area of Doschers.

We came here for a late lunch on a Saturday. First off, I would recommend parking by the grocery store. Not even worth trying to find a spot in their tiny lot. The wait wasn't too bad, we had a dog so we sat outside. Our drink order was taken right away, I ordered a holy city brew. Unfortunately, the waitress was completely oblivious when it came to their beer selection. We ordered the cheese/meat platter for an appetizer and it was huge. My favorite was the sausage and pimento cheese. It also included pork belly which was supposedly very juicy and tender (I don't like pork so I wouldn't know). Their Mac and cheese is amazing though! The brisket is pretty average, comparable to most other BBQ joints. I wish the service had been a little better, I would have probably given them 5 stars. This place is definitely on the right track and I recommend you try them out!

I had the beef brisket and it was great. As I told the bartenders The Swig & Swine is one of the best barbecue restaurants in Charleston in regards to the quality of the food and service. However, my second visit was a little disappointing regarding my bill. I paid the bill once and then they brought me another bill, which I had already paid; without explanation. They just expected me to pay it. I had to ask for an explanation and they told me there was confusion on their part. They deleted my charge and started over. My question to them was why not let me know up front rather than try to slip a bill through. I'm not implying they were trying to charge me twice, however, it would have been better customer service to explain the issue with me before giving me a bill I thought I paid. Still great food though!

Awesome barbecue and great prices. Very nice inside and feel laid back. We had the "bbq ends" which was awesome and there was plenty for leftovers. the sauces didn't blow us away but this was more than compensated for by the awesome bbq.

Angel is da bomb. Best waitress in the joint. Pulled pork and brisket were phenomenal. Serve dry and delicious. Sauces on the table were great. The smoked turkey was out of this world! Seriously try it. The brisket is slow cooked for 14 hours and pulled on schedule throughout the day on a custom smoker. Seriously. Get here now!

My husband and I ate here last night, the day after their opening (I believe). Though it was packed, we were promptly seated and every staff member we encountered was very friendly. My husband had the pork sandwich with potato salad, while I had the brisket platter with collards and mac n' cheese. Everything came out quickly and was delicious! As someone who generally does not care for potato salad, I have to point out how amazing theirs was! The drink menu is extensive and while their food menu seems limited, they really thrive in what they offer. We had two minor hiccups (no one working seemed to know what the white sauce on the table was and they were out of banana pudding), but that wasn't enough for me to take off a star because the food and service were excellent. Can't wait to go back.

They say "the third time is the charm" is really true in this case, my wife and I tried two other bbq places in Charleston and Swig & Swine was by far the best. I could tell by seeing the large smoker when we pulled in the parking lot that we had found the right place. We had the 3 meat platter which had brisket, Turkey, & pulled pork with baked beans and mac & cheese. We also added 4 ribs. While waiting for our food , I had the pleasure of talking with the owner about his custom made smoker and that he had outgrown that one and has another one being made. Our food arrived and it was everything bbq should be: moist with a smoky flavor and a really nice smoke ring on the brisket and ribs. They have their homemade bbq sauces on the table , but they really aren't needed unless that's your thing. The baked beans had pieces of brisket mixed in & the mac & cheese was quite good. We topped it off with some homemade banana pudding. I would highly recommend going there first if you are looking for great bbq in the Charleston area. P. S. - The staff is very friendly.

Great place, we were treated awesome. Had a long wait, and the owner treated us to an appetizer sampler that was incredible. He took the time to speak with us and go over the foods with us. This place is new, but will soon be the talk of the town. Atmosphere is incredible. Best barbecue I have had in a while. I had the brisket, Wow! Go now before people are lined up in the street to eat there. Oh yeah, the deserts are also a home run. We had a peach cobbler and savored every bite.

  • Lane A.

This place is pretty good. We liked the four sauces on the table. I got the mixed salad with brisket and it was delicious. My husband got the smoked wings, and he thought they were a little sweet, but had a great smokey flavor. They also have a nice list of local beers, but we would have liked to have more draft options. The atmosphere was definitely a plus!

    (4)
  • Mr. C.

The meat and the sides are great. The sauces are weak, no heat, no pepper, no body. The whiskey list is note worthy and the beer selection is good. I have eaten there twice. Both times the service was good. Overall, Swig and Swine is a good BBQ joint. If they would put some love into their sauces, I would eat there more.

  • Brian S.

Pork belly is great. Brisket is half fat and somewhat tough. They ran out of pulled pork at 7:30. It's a quaint place, but you can find better. It's not bad for a quick dinner.

    (2)
  • Adam M.

the beer was good. the smoked sausage was good. the service was good. the brisket was mediocre at best; mostly fat and their "unique" smoking needs improvement, it adds little flavor and depth to the brisket. the pork belly was good, when I fried it at home for breakfast.. poorly done at the shop. not the best or the worst in Charleston. nicks is better.

I must have had an extremely bad experience because the food I ate was terrible. They were out of what everyone in our group wanted, smoked turkey, collards, etc. The wings we ordered were brought out room temperature and we were told the were supposed to be that way. Our drinks came out after our appetizer and the service was absolutely terrible. We were rarely checked on and our waitress was extremely unprofessional. Our dinners came out room temperature and they were mediocre at best. The barbeque was extremely dry and no one at our table cared for the four homemade sauces. The waitress demonstrated that you are supposed to shake the sauces up by putting your finger on the top where the sauce comes out. This is extremely unsanitary and grossed everyone at the table out thinking about how many people's fingers had been on those bottles. We were given free dessert because they were out of everything we ordered. We tried peach and blackberry cobbler and banana pudding. The banana pudding was decent but the cobblers were terrible. Overall, we had a very disappointing experience. Smoky Oak Taproom and Home Team BBQ are much better choices for BBQ in Charleston.

Best barbecue within miles, hands down. My fiancee, aka The Lady and I split the Meat and Cheese plate. Everything I thought I knew about great pimento cheese was obliterated within seconds -- this is, without hyperbole, the absolute best pimento cheese I have ever eaten. The Lady didn't go quite that far with her assessment, but it wasn't far off. For dinner I had the pulled pork plate with hash-and-rice and Brunswick stew. Everything was amazing. The Brunswick stew was actually somewhat spicy, which I loved, but those who aren't spice-friendly should beware. The Lady got the beef brisket with mac and cheese and collard greens, and again everything was top-notch. She's from Texas and holds her father's brisket in the highest regard, and said this one was on par with it. The only downside to an otherwise terrific dining experience was the banana pudding. It was too mealy and had only a mediocre flavor. Beer selection was small but very respectable. Service was excellent and even though the place was packed we were still able to carry on a normal conversation without having to shout. Definitely a strong candidate for a regular haunt for us!

I consider myself a BBQ connoisseur, having sampled Q from just about every place in SC. This place kills it. When it comes to the BBQ, its no-frills wood smoke on quality meat. If you are a sauce person, they give you an assortment to choose from. All the sides are classics...nothing fancy, but done right. Don't go here if you are "eating clean" or on some kind of diet. Go here if you are looking for good service and really good BBQ that will fill you up for the rest of the day. If you want something other than pulled pork, go for the brisket or the ribs. You will not be disappointed.

    (5)
  • Jonathan T.

Good prices. Service was fabulous. Sweet red BBQ sauce outstanding. Ribs were good but the Mac and Cheese was one of the best ever. Brunswick stew was also surprisingly good. Brisket was fattier than we were used to up north but very well prepared. Nice selection of draft and bottled beer. Pecan dark was especially good.

  • Nicholas J.

Excellent BBQ place with generous portions, great sides, and most importantly, meats that can stand on their own. The brisket and pulled pork are my favorites. If you haven't been, I recommend the family sampler if you have a party of four or more. You'll get the most bang for your buck that way. All sauces are served on the side as they should be. Make use of their takeout option as they get very full. Overall an amazing place considering it used to be an auto shop. Be smart about parking as the surrounding businesses I'm sure will begin booting people.

From out of town.passed on the road and decided to stop in, tough parking but inviting looking place.very friendly staff..Lori (very friendly and helpful) was our bartender,server..she told us all about the food and BBQ sauces.we tried many meats..best things today were chicken, ribs, and potato salad. I must say BBQ better than Nashville and even Memphis...so Charleston's claims to great bbq are true..highly recommend trying swig & swine..oops,forgot to mention that have @12 beers on draft, great selection..was more about the food for me today, but beer was good, too.

Wow. I have had BBQ all of my life and this was GREAT! My husband thought the ribs were really good as well. It's hard to find brunswick stew and it had a kick of yummy. Collards very good. Peach cobbler was some of best I've had. Definitely will be returning soon! Crowded and limited parking. Manager came over to ensure all was good.

We were driving home from Hilton Head on Hwy 17 and came upon Swig and Swine. It was mobbed and we had to park in the IGA and walk back. The food was outrageous! We had the brisket with coleslaw sandwich with bean side. The service is outstanding and the owner personally comes to the table for feedback. I wish this restaurant great success!

  • C M.

Mediocre on all fronts. Pulled pork tasted warmed over. Brisket was just average. Sausage was very good. Waitress negligent in several ways. How do you literally run out of 90% of your Restaurant Week desserts and yet the waitress tells you none of this when ordering? Manager was a nice guy, but they need to get their act together.

  • Staci B.

We visited Swig & Swine the first week it was open. It's small inside, so there was a bit of a wait, but it was totally worth it. I loved the laid back atmosphere and beer/cocktail selection. The brisket was SO GOOD. I wouldn't have ordered the pickled vegetables, but they came on the side of an appetizer and they were delicious. We were there with a toddler. We waited a little bit longer for a table because the bar tables are too tall for a high chair, but the hostess updated us on the wait time several times and there's a nice waiting area outside. It was great!

Finally found a BBQ place in Chas that reminds me of home (TX)! Beautiful brisket (though a tad dry) and some very good, though slightly under-seasoned Mac n cheese. I will definitely be back to try more.

Last night was my second visit in their first week of opening business. I just had to get more of their amazing mac n cheese. Seriously the best. Thick and cheesey goodness. I had the pulled pork the first night. Outstanding. It literally melted in my mouth. Last night I tried the smoked turkey. Again, outstanding. Perfect smoky flavor and so tender and moist. My husband had the pork belly and he was in heaven. The coleslaw was also good, not overloaded with mayonnaise but light and crisp. And can we talk desserts? I have tried their pecan derby pie, the peanut butter pie and the key lime with coconut crème. I would go to Swig just for dessert.....it's that good. And prices are so reasonable given the exceptional quality of food along with the friendliness of the staff. What are you waiting for? Get over there!

Needed to get some BBQ while in SC. Heard from some locals that this was a good place. Went Sunday right at 11. Prompt, friendly service. Got the family platter and Mac n cheese, collards and beans. The meat looks outstanding and has a nice flavor. I added some sauce (the vinegar and red) to the pulled pork but really it didn't need anything extra. Everything fell off the bone that should have, but nothing was too mushy. The Mac n cheese is clearly homemade and tastes very good. No runny-ass velveeta slop. It's seasoned well, and tastes like Mac n cheese should. The collards were banging. Vinegary but also a bit sweet. The beans were cooked with brisket. A tad too sweet for me, but still very good. Mad points for the effort they make in presenting a fine, well-cared for product. The pimento cheese was also outstanding, first time I ever tried it and I see what all the fuss is about! Check this place out. I might be a northerner but I can eat and I know what tastes good. This is a quality product.

My first visit. I had the chicken wings as an appetizer and the pulled pork sandwich for dinner with macaroni and cheese. Everything was fantastic. Lots of meat on the sandwich and a nice tender bun. Outstanding service as well.

Best BBQ in Charleston!! Great staff, fantastic atmosphere, and did I mention the food... we had the Pimento cheese starter that is now made its way into my dreams!!! LOL Flippin Amazing. The Ribs were Sooo tender and delicious. Sauce or no sauce you will like it! Great portion sizes soo good I couldn't even try desert. Guess I will just have to come back.

Good barbecue, served quickly, on tasty bread, with generously refilled drinks. Service was attentive, but not overbearing, everything was clean, music was great. Brisket and pulled pork sandwiches were worth it.

Went here for lunch today! Food was excellent! I shared a 2 meat and 2 side plate. We did the pork belly, brisket, mac and cheese, and rice and hash. The meats were both great and didn't even need the sauce! For an appetizer we had the pickled vegetables in a jar and the sausage and cheese plate. The sausage was outstanding! The vegetables looked kind of gross in the jar, however were delicious! A bit spicy. I also tried a bite of the burnt ends that were on the special and it was REALLY GOOD. Very salty though. My mom had the half chicken and loved it and my dad had the brunch special which was brisket, cheese grits, and eggs! He didn't take any home :) I would definitely recommend this place for a good time too. The atmosphere seemed great for just going to get an after work drink. The waitress was in training and was super nice and did a great job!

I still stand by my five star review when eating in the restaurant, but this review is for the take out. We came to Charleston this weekend and decided to stop by Swig and Swine to pick up some lunch. We got there before the lunch rush and ordered the 3 meat platter with an order of burnt ends. 20 minutes later we get home..on the first box was written pork, brisket, and pork belly. We opened the box and there was no pork, instead turkey. Highly disappointing as we all loved their pork. And turkey doesn't even look like shredded pork, I could understand mistake with other shredded meat, but turkey!? Don't trust in a restaurant to give you the right thing. The other crappy thing with to go orders is the sides. You don't even come close to getting what you get when dining in. They have very small round containers and with the four of us splitting, we each get a bite, two if you're lucky. Dining in you get one of those big rectangular baskets full. Swig and Swine you need to get your to go orders in order. Get the orders right and make portion sizes consistent whether you order in or out. Still great food, but crap experience this time.

Oh my goodness, that was some good food! Went last night after hearing my hubby rave (it is a favorite work lunch place) and now I know why!!! I had the beef brisket plate with coleslaw and the heirloom tomato/butter bean special salad. The meat was sublime in texture and flavor. Tried all the sauces which were great but the meat was so delicious I didn't use much. Slaw and salad were fresh and bursting with flavor. My hubby had the collards which were the best I have ever had, including my own! The staff could not have been more helpful or welcoming and they efficiently handled the crowd. It was packed with people needing some Swig & Swine on a Saturday night. Great atmosphere with happy and satisfied eaters.

The food here is phenomenal! I haven't had better BBQ. You definitely get what you pay for here. Service was great as well. If you are ever in the area, make plans to stop here while visiting. You won't regret it.

I'm not sure what I was thinking only giving Swig & Swine three stars. That's compeletely inaccurate and I'm going to edit my previous review, but I needed to give an update. Holy smokes this is some good BBQ! I'm never one to throw the BBQ card in the "What are we having for dinner?" discussion, but Swig & Swine has changed my view of BBQ forever. The location is cool. The restuarant is hip. The stafff is super friendly. Who can't enjoy themselves when the servers are walking around with shirts that say "getting swiggy with it" and "i like pig butts and i cannot lie"! But most importantly, the food is amazing!! We absolutely knew we would be going home with leftovers when we ordered the Family Platter, but what that really entailed we were not ready for. 7 meats and 3 sides of pure delciousness! Smoked turkey, pulled pork, smoked wings, ribs, pork belly, brisket, and sausage. Whoa! We went with the macaroni and cheese, cole salw, and pickled vegetables for our sides. After consuming as much food as we could our platter still didn't event look like we put a dent in it! We let with two to go boxes filled with meat and containers for our sides. That's enough food to feed us for the next few days. We're going to make pork belly and barbacoa tacos tonight, something with the poultry tomorrow, and snack on the sausage. All of that food for $34! What?! Go early! They smoke everything in house and once it's gone for the day, it's gone. We weren't ready for this and when we arrive they had already run out of brisket and ribs. Next to the pork belly that's what we were looking forward to the most. We were a little bummed, but our super sweet server let us double up on wings and pork belly. When she brought us our platter she let us know they had a few ribs left so they threw them on as well with our double meats. Score! She said she didn't want us to be disappointed or miss out. How thoughtful. We will definitely be back again...and again...and you get the drift!

In actuality, it's probably a 4.5, but the service and atmosphere was superb. We got the family platter because my family and I just didn't want the trouble with ordering a bunch of coordinating meats and sides. Everything was delicious and the best version we've ever had of each item, except for the pulled pork. I'm probably the biased North Carolinian here, but it wasn't moist enough. Highlights!: -pickles--these came with the meal and were crunchy, sweet, and tangy in all the right ways. It was very refreshing, which is appropriate considering we got a ton of meat -brisket--I'm basically a brisket slut, so maybe I'm a little too easy in this category, but it was amazingly tender, the charred crust had great flavor and it was so well-seasoned. Clearly everyone's favorite meat overall -mac&cheese--creamy, warm, crusty on top, shells soft but not mushy -chicken wings--Um. I have no words. I pretty much salivate thinking about it That is all. This place is a great find, and so much better than some places I've had downtown.

Fast, easy and tastes great! Had an hour long lunch break and the waitress was very friendly to make sure we were served at ease. I got the chicken wings with a side of mac and cheese. The rest of the day at work was difficult due to all the delicious food. The chicken wings were smokey and saucey. I had to add some more sauces to try so I went with some white barbecue sauce and yellow mustard sauce. The prices are reasonable and a great 10 dollar stop for lunch. There's nothing special about the atmosphere so you can focus on the glorious meat in front of you. Swig and swine is added to my list of bbq joints in charleston for when I need my craving!

Tried the sampler platter. Ribs, brisket, pulled pork and chicken. Everything was perfection. Some of the sauces and sides are pretty heavy on the vinegar, luckily for me I am a fan. The Alabama white sauce is not quite as good as the stuff you get in Alabama, but the Carolina mustard sauce was divine. Happy all around!

Ok, this is my first Carolina Q and this place came recommended by the locals so I had to try it. I considered myself a self-appointed bbq aficionado and love bbq. I ordered the 3 meat plate and chose chicken, ribs and brisket, all came with either a rub or dry - no sauce. First and foremost all three were exceptionally moist and tender. I was particularly impressed by the ribs - Spares with a lot of meat. The flavor was great and the meat was very tender. The ribs didn't need any sauce. The brisket was very moist and tender but a little bland. The chicken was also very moist and tender. I, personally, didn't care for the rub on the chicken but my associate loved it - personal preference. The running theme is exceptionally moist and tender. There were 5 different flavors of sauce and only one that I liked. I'm not a fan of the mustard or vinegar based sauces so this is something you'll need to judge. The service was great and everyone was friendly so no complaints there. Overall I would highly recommend this place. Anytime every piece of meat you order, at a bbq restaurant, is extremely moist and tender - it's a winner

  • Chelle R.

I had the brisket sandwich. They know how to smoke the brisket, because I saw a nice smoke ring, a nice char on the outside of the meat; and the meat was moist. What they don't know how to do is season the meat. They need a better rub, or maybe infuse the brisket with some garlic. The meat needed to have more flavor. With that being said I plan on giving Swig & Swine another chance because they've only been open for two weeks. They may be working out some bugs. I sat at the bar. The customer service was great. I can't remember the name of the young lady and gentleman who were working the bar, but they were knowledgeable about the menu and did all they could to ensure that I was having a good dining experience.

Been here twice and pretty solid meals both times. Had chicken and the turkey. Not bland, not overly salty, just a solid BBQ flavor. I actually came both times to try their brisket as I have yet to find a good place in Charleston as of yet. The sides are descent, especially the picked vegetables, but their other sides are just okay. Service is descent.

This place was top notch! Impressed from start to finish. Only regret was not trying their dessert. Service was very friendly and everything was great. Had the three meat sandwich and left very very full. The wings were insanely good!! Sandwich was very good but wings were something else, definitely recommend this spot and hope they continue to do well!

As a current resident of the Hampton Roads area of Virginia, I have found it difficult to find a BBQ place that satisfies in the area. I'm a BBQ snob and most lately strikes me as bland and unworthy. First time in Charleston and Yelp says "go to Swig and Swine!" Glad I listen to the reviewers - the best BBQ I have had at a restaurant in years! Ordered the pulled pork, pork belly and sausage with beans and pickled veggies. As an afterthought, wife said "let's try the ribs too". Boy, am I glad she was want in' some ribs! The pulled pork had plenty of flavor and superb mouth feel; the pork belly was perfect and the sausage was very good. But the ribs...the ribs...OMG...the ribs forced an out-of-body experience. Perfect bite off the bone, beautiful smoke, and a rub that defied me to put one of their signature sauces on the meat - don't do it, it doesn't need sauce. Our waitress, Belinda was a hoot and provided that just-right level of service. We packed up plenty to take home (including a quart of rub) and finished lunch by sharing a very-scrumptious bourbon pecan pie. You won't beat Swig and Swine!

Swig and Swine has the best barbecue I have ever had. The brisket was smoked perfectly with the absolute best mix of fat and meat with an exceptional bark. If you are a fan of brisket or barbecue you should do yourself a favor and check them out. The sides were great and the sweet tea was delicious. I will be back more often than I will care to admit.

When it comes to some great BBQ in Charleston Swig & Swine is the place to be. We've been here a couple times so far and really loved it both times; for the food, drinks, and service. The service at S&S is beyond great; they do an awesome job at taking care of their guests. The first visit we sat a table and had a nice young lady wait on us that took us through their menu explaining everything, she knew all the specials and was able to tell us about those, and she had pretty good knowledge about the drafts they had on tap. Our second visit we sat at the bar where the two guys working did an awesome job waiting on us, pouring some cold ones, and introducing us to newer sauces they were trying out. Service here is an A plus! The food at Swig & Swine is awesome too! The first visit we started with the pickled vegetables which my wife really liked; they were a little too sweet for me. For our meals my wife got the slider trio or something like that; it had 3 sliders consisting of pulled pork, brisket, and smoked turkey. I myself tried a special they had going on, the open face burnt ends brisket sandwich. I have to say the brunt ends sandwich stole the show; I can see why they call that the filet of BBQ. For our sides we both got the mac & cheese which was also very good. On our second visit we decided to try the ribs; they were freaking amazing! The ribs were cooked just right; very tender and fell right off the bone. The sides we got with the ribs were the collard greens and hash & rice; the collards were a little sweet for me, being a Georgia boy we just never make our collards sweet. We also tried the Brunswick stew which was great too. Swig & Swine offers an awesome selection of brews and a few bar. They carry a lot of different beers, but I'm most impressed that they carry beers from our local breweries like Westbrook, Holy City, Palmetto, etc. I've been a stickler and had the Hootie's Homegrown Ale from Palmetto Brewing each time I've been in. Overall I think Swig & Swine is a winner. They got the recipe for success.

My buddy and I were wanting some good southern BBQ. Saw the good reviews which didn't give this place justice. TOP NOTCH. To start off, good music and excellent atmosphere. Welcoming hostess. My waitress Melissa was fabulous. Personal, friendly, and offered good advise which was to share the platter. We tried hard, but weren't able to finish all the food. I couldn't decide what I thought was the best meat; the wings, ribs, pulled pork, or the sausage all smoked and perfectly grilled. Their sauces are all home made and deliciously smokey. I have had BBQ all over the country, I'd say they are the best I've ever had.

My wife and I stopped in to try the BBQ out because it was nearby and maybe we should have kept on driving! It started with the fried pickles; they came as spears which messed up the texture...different only works if it is better. I prefer the chip style fried pickles which I didnt realize until I tried this method. Prices are a bit on the high side and they had the nerve to add a $2 upcharge to my $16 two meat combo plate because I chose ribs. Then they brought me 3 bones of slightly tough and generally lifeless ribs. The brisket was a little better than the ribs but if you have had Texas brisket then dont try this because you will be disappointed. The two sides (beans and mac and cheese) were very good; but you dont go to BBQ for the sides! Sweet tea was just the right blend. This place has only been opened for about a year. Lets hope they work out the kinks before their second anniversary.

Took my Husband & Mom here for Father's Day. We ordered the Family Plater it a great bargin. The sides we chose where baked beans, slaw, & collard greens. Our waitress was friendly & helpful. We where able to leave off the sausage & order extra turkey. The baked beans where hard we sent them back & requested the loaded potatoe salad that came out in a much smaller portion. The collards are wonderful & the slaw is great. The ribs where salty, the pulled pork & wings where dry, pork belly hardley had any meat on it.The turkey was delicious & moist. The pickles are nothing special really no taste. For desert my husband ordered banana pudding it said it was good but the banannas where a little to dark. the rest of us shared a coconut pie it was ok. The big issue we had where the amount of swarming flies! We where seated inside & didnt expect this to be a problem. Won't be back anytime soon very disapointed.

I haven't been to many BBQ joints... But I will say this is the best damn bbq I've had. We ordered the family meal which was 38$. It has four ribs, pulled pork, pork belly, sausage, fatty beef brisket, smoked turkey breast, five smoked chicken wings, bread, onions and pickles.. It came with three legs sides of your choice.. We got collards, baked potato salad, and pickled veggies. So I'm anti white meat... Anti BBQ white meat.. Anti Breast meat unless it's grinded and packed with a ton of flavorings.. But man the smoked turkey breast was good! It has really good seasoning.. Cooked perfectly so it wasn't dry at ALL! I would def get an order of this. The brisket was delish too! Super moist, super tender and flavorful. The chicken wings were my third favorite. Sweet and smokey. The ribs were good. The belly was good. I didn't care for the pulled pork or the sausage.. My bf and sister likes the sausage though.. I think it didn't have enough fatty ness for me. Collards were my favorite side. It was a little on the sweeter side.. Braised with some cut of pork.. Small pork pieces floating around. The baked potato salad was good too... So thick and creamy. I felt so guilty eating it! But I've never tasted anything like it! The pickled veggies were good too. Nothing to rave about but a good "healthier" feeling option. They had four sauces available- white sauce, mustard sauce, sweet BBQ and vinegar. Everyone at my table liked the vinegar sauce.. My second fave was the mustard. The white sauce was strange.. Reminded us of ranch.. And sweet red was mediocre. We had a whole container full to bring back to my sisters. Thinking of sc... I want this BBQ for dinner and tattooed moose for lunch! E-ver-y-day!

I am a lover of barbecue. I have my few go to places around Charleston, but was extremely eager to try this after reading reviews. I have been there twice and I want to go back every single day for dinner. Their food is fantastic! The first time I went, I ordered the slider trio special. It came with a brisket slider, a smoked turkey slider and a pulled pork slider. The meat... /drool. Seriously, it is the tastiest stuff. It is some of the best brisket I have ever had. Their mac and cheese is tasty, but it isn't a creamy dish- as I tend to like. Still pretty good, though. The second time I went, I ordered the two meat plate(pulled pork & brisket). It came with two sided, in which I ordered the beans and rice & hash. The beans were spicy! I added a little ranch sauce into it and it toned it down a bit. The rice and hash WAS SO DAMN GOOD. My husband ordered the two meat plate as well, but for his sides got the collards and brunswick stew- which, is like ordering an extra meat on your plate because there is so much pulled pork in it! Fantastic option. (Other sides I have tried included the cole slaw and baked potato salad- both of which are something to write home about!) Their drink selection is perfect for one who loves craft brews. Their staff is super friendly and fun. I highly recommend Swig & Swine to anyone and everyone. I think on Sundays, they do a Pig Roast/Pull. I am looking forward to trying that sometime!

**Overall Rank 4/5** The best way to describe S&S is gourmet BBQ with a hefty price tag. Not the best I've ever had, but definitely not the worst. **Food - Portion size 4/5** Main dish is average size, but the sides are pretty small, so you may want to order extra if you are hungry. **Food - Taste 4/5** Pretty standard BBQ, nothing special. Their sauces, however, are unique...I preferred the white and sweet red, the mustard was okay. We had all the sides......by far the best was the baked potato salad. Worst, IMO, was easily the collard greens, too much vinegar. I had the burnt end sandwich special, which was burnt brisket ends served on two pieces of white bread. **Location 5/5** Right next door to another Charleston favorite and within miles of downtown and Folly. Great location for all the hip restaurants. **Parking 3/5** Not much parking in their lot. Parked at the Hibachi, despite the threat of tow. Many people park another lot over at Doscher's and walk over. **Cleanliness 5/5** Very clean, open, and well lit. **Originality 3/5** Just BBQ. Originality is in the sauces. Again, my personal favorite for the sandwich was the white sauce. A good sub for mayo on a BBQ sandwich. **Service 5/5** Our waitress was very cool and even recommended my wife not get the sandwich and get the platter b/c you get more meat and still get bread to make a sandwich for the same price. **Price 3/5** It's a bit steep compared to other BBQ places I've been to around the country. Especially for the portion size. **Wait 4/5** A short wait for a table. I feared we would get sat at one of the group tables with people we don't know. They definitely need to do away with those 6-top tables and get some 4-tops that can be combined for parties or split for small groups. I don't want to share a table with people I don't know. **Atmosphere 4/5** Very cool building. Open with large windows facing the road. The coolest thing, IMO, were the lights and the beer taps. They lights were made from Mason jars. Pretty cool idea. The beer taps spelled "Swig&Swine" and the menu matched a craft beer to each letter. Cool idea.

Always on the hunt for good BBQ...this did not disappoint. Went here for the first time for lunch the other day and the special was porkbelly, fried green tomato, and pimento cheese on texas toast sandwich. Whoa! Yet...we were indecisive...so we started with the fried pickles...cuz I love fried pickles. Forewarning these are spears not chips...so if you are partial then you prob won't like them. We like variety so we both enjoyed them very much. The spears are a whole different experience than chips. They have a soft melty texture...much like fried zucchini or eggplant. The batter was nice and light and well seasoned. My hubby caved and got the oh so decadent special with a side of the brisket beans. I went traditional with the pulled pork sandwich and collards (cuz I love me some collards...plus I give myself the false sense that I'm being a little healthy...HA!). I'll start with the porkbelly...very good...so good...but oh so rich! For me it was just too much...I am sure for those porkbelly lovers out there this would have been heaven. My pulled pork on the other hand was just right. didn't really need sauce although I concocted my own from the variety pack they offer...alabama white sauce, SC yellow, sweet red, apple cider sauce...(well i think that's what they were...basically mayo based, mustard base, ketchup based, and vinegar). Point is you've got lots of choices but it's so good you don't need them. Ultimately I think what I wanted to do was take the friend green tomatoes and pimento cheese and put them on my pulled pork sandwich. The smokiness of the pork would have been an excellent compliment to the tart tomatoes and creamy cheese...plus it would have been more texturally interesting...the porkbelly sandwich seemed all too soft/creamy. The sides were great. The beans were hearty and flavorful...and the collards were excellent. Obviously these weren't the highlight...but still very good. I would actually like to see them offer a "veggie plate" like so many SC places do...because their sides all looked wonderful and this would make for a good vegetarian option. The service was great...very attentive...very knowledgeable...and brought our dog water right away...that counts alot for us. Despite being right on 17 the outdoor area was very pleasant. We will be back...for more sides...and to try the smoked turkey everyone's raving about.

So, looked at yelp at figured this place was worth 15 minute drive. and it did not disappoint!!! First of all nice atmosphere, not chain-like, quirky, comfortable. One other thing before food, I sat at the "food bar", basically looking over the prep area, the guy working it was really good, and his attention to detail prepping and then cleaning up was amazing. Oh and he gave me two pieces of pork belly, yep this ain't no Korean BBQ pork belly, I hate to say it was my favorite thing I had. Btw just learned guy at prep is Jonathan, nice work my man! I had the brisket which was amazing, and tried all their sauces. Favorites were the mustard based Carolina sauce and this VERY interesting white sauce, mayo based with horseradish and some other amazing things. Beans we also good and the greens were good as well, not sure how I feel about them having sort of a sweetness going on and with pieces of brisket mixed in, not the way I like my collards but still good. Server was Tina and she was also very friendly and right on top of everything. Offered up a BBQ sauce with Jalapeños that's not out on the counter, was really good. Ok I'm out...

With plans to host a taco Tuesday party at my house, it gave me the perfect excuse to finally make it over to Swig & Swine. I got there around 11:20AM and there was already at least a dozen people seated. Great sign for a restaurant that just opened at 11! I headed to the bar to place a to-go order for a pound of pulled pork, a pint of cole slaw and some of their pickled vegetables. The pork and slaw was for taco Tuesday fixing and the pickled veggies were just b/c I love pickled veggies and their's definitely didn't disappoint. My food was up in less than 10 minutes and the bartender was very helpful to myself and another customer who came in to place a to-go order right behind me. When I got home I tried a bite of everything before the party. The pork is awesome. Smokey and the vinegar sauce I selected offers the perfect amount of tang to make for a perfect bite. As far as the cole slaw, I was disappointed at first b/c it's just basic cabbage, carrots, and mayo. Nothing fancy. But then I realized, it's perfect for what they're doing. The smoke from the meat and one of the four sauce options is where all the flavors at. The cole slaw is just there to add creaminess and compliment the delicious meat and sauce. After living in Charleston for 15 years now, I'm so excited to finally say I live in the South and there's a good BBQ place in town.

Cool vibe but that's crushed by the rude bar staff. They are out of some menu items (usually BBQ ones) and don't really have that super of BBQ. I see what they are trying for but fell short. Will go elsewhere for my BBQ.

Really enjoyed this place. It's some of the bbq I've had, though admittedly I haven't had much. There were 2 of us and we shared the 3 meat plate. We had brisket (slightly dry but the burnt bit was delicious), pork belly (excellent!), homemade sausage (very good, reminiscent of kielbasa). It came with two sides, we hour Mac and cheese (fantastic) and baked beans (the best I've ever had). It was more than enough food. Service was friendly and beer selection was good too.

Went here for the first time with my wife, I ordered the smoked turkey and pulled pork, she got the special. OMFG! WOW! So very delicious, the turkey was moist and lightly smoked, and the pulled pork was to die for. They have like 4 or 5 different BBQ sauces on the table, they were all yummy. I also had the cole slaw and collards, loved the cole slaw, but not the collards, but I think SC just does them differently, they were bitter and sweet, I like mine cooked more like turnips with chicken broth and smoked turkey legs. BUT, well worth the trip, and I had some NC beer (what is up with Charleston and their canned beers?), that was pretty good. We ate out all week, and I have never heard of paying $6 for a canned beer, and I eat in D.C. all the time.....if you are looking for good BBQ, no wait, if you are looking for GREAT BBQ, look no further, you have to go here. And the wait staff are so friendly and great ambassadors for the restaurant, you can tell they love their job and where they work!

We had carry out of the brisket and the pulled pork with sides of the collard greens and the pickled vegetables. The collards were whole leaf. They had good flavor and were not greasy like they can be some places. The pickled vegetables side was spicy and also well loved. The pickles served with the meats were good as well. As mentioned elsewhere the meats had good smokiness and the brisket had a nice crust. All that said, other than the smokiness there wasn't much flavor. The pork, in particular, was dry. The sauces we tried, the mustard and the sweet and spicy had good, but not amazing, flavor. Overall the atmosphere seemed great. And I do like that they have somewhat different items like pork belly, turkey and chicken wings.

Awesome BBQ. No sauce needed. Awesome beans and the rest of the sides look delicious as well. Great beers on tap. Friendly service. Gets pretty crowded, but worth the wait. Would definitely recommend and will go back.

We loved the barbecue platter, which included all the meats. Please note, it feeds four people. Barbecue was really tasty, the brisket was spot on and tender and moist. The smoked bourbon was tasty and their craft beer selection is pretty good. Service was very good and attentive, not too much or less. Definitely a great vibe.

We were so excited to try Swig & Swine after many recommendations and we were disappointed! After we were seated by a less than friendly hostess we ordered pimento cheese and pork rinds for appetizers which did not disappoint. The wings and pulled pork were terrific also, however the other meats (pork belly, ribs, sausage) weren't great. The Mac-n-cheese wasn't even warm and the collard greens were not good at all. We won't be back.

Was going to have a get together here on Saturday at 4pm. I called in advance and was told to make it at 4pm before the dinner rush and it would be no problem at all. I called Saturday morning to confirm and was told they no longer could handle us. The woman on the phone was very rude. It's ok Swig ... we took our party of 45 to Triangle down the road and the gladly accepted us.

Like all good barbecue joints this one is on a repurposed building on the highway. Excellent food and craft beers with Pappy Van Winkle among the bourbon offerings. Try the pickled veggies and the great vinegary collard greens for sides. The pulled pork is excellent and the appetizer pork rinds with blue cheese and Tabasco (ask for more they splash light) are sublime

What a great new BBQ place! The atmosphere and decor are unique and the staff was very friendly and eager to inform us about their offerings. The server let us taste a new jalapeno bbq sauce that they are working on and it was great. We had smoked brisket, sausage, smoked turkey, potato salad, and mac and cheese - everything was very delicious. I could have ordered more of that potato salad and mac to go! We will absolutely being going back here again!

Amazing, just amazing! I went with a large group for lunch and we got the family platter. Honestly, the best BBQ of my life. We had the smoked turkey, brisket, pulled pork, ribs, smoked sausage, and pork belly... I can't tell you which is best. I can tell you the pulled pork was my least favorite and I still enjoyed it. The platter was $39 and it feed 5 adults and 1 child - no one was hungry at the end. For appetizers, we had the pork rinds and pig ears. Very good, as well. For dessert, we tried the buttermilk pie, chocolate pecan pie, and apple crisp... Again, so good. Chocolate pecan pie was the best. Also it should be noted their liquor menu, I had the Pappy Van Winkle 15 year and it was SO worth the price. Go here, now!

Amazing!!!! The brisket was on point. The pork belly was perfection. And the pickled veggies and Mac n cheese we great also. The guys I was with had the sausage, pulled pork and turkey and they were all raving about it. A must visit if you are in the area.

We will definitely revisit this joint next time we are in the area. We were here 4th of July weekend, and a month later, we are still talking about how amazing the bbq was. My party of 6 loved the Family platter. With 2 additional side dishes, the family platter was plenty of meat to satisfy everyone, including 2 men with big appetites. The meat was all tender and moist, especially the brisket. We also enjoyed the home-style side dishes: collards and mac&cheese. For dessert, we enjoyed the banana pudding. Great food, big portions, and reasonable prices!

Let me start by saying I'm born and raised in Buffalo NY and live in Southern California. I typically avoid BBQ places because every one I've been to has left me with an upset stomach and repeating smokey burps... (TMI?) The Swig & Swine was AMAZING!!! I had the tri-tip, pulled pork, and chicken. For sides I tried the mac & cheese, baked beans, and the baked potato salad. Okay, and a Bloody Mary! The food was the best I've ever had - it has spoiled me and I'll never trust West Coast BBQ again! The staff was super friendly and helpful. Looking forward to my next trip in the spring!

I'm actually really surprised at all the 5 star reviews this place has gotten. It makes me wonder if any of these people have eaten at Home Team BBQ? They have the best wings in town, hands down, and much more flavorful food. Swig and Swine struck me as something trying to compete with Home Team, but not as good. The service was fine--we sat at the bar, and food and drinks came quickly, no problems. My biggest complaint about this restaurant is the SUGAR. I felt like I was eating spoonfuls of it with every bite. My drink was a sweet tea mojito, which was overly sweet--very syrupy. Their wings were ok, but no Home Team wings. The rub was also sweet, and every sauce offered was sweet--their ketchup based BBQ sauce was sweet, and even their vinegar based BBQ sauce had too much sugar in it, and no vinegar bite. We ordered the pork belly, pulled pork, collards, and mac and cheese for dinner. The bartender raved that the mac and cheese was life changing. I did not feel changed. It was shells, with cheese. No amazing flavors coming through. The collards had TONS of sugar in them--I took two bites and had to stop. The meats were ok, but dry--and putting sauce on them just resulted in more sugar. All in all, it was a disappointing experience for me. There are much better options in town for BBQ.

I went to Swig and Swine tonight because a friend wanted to come. I ordered the smoked turkey sandwich with a side of baked potato salad. I was expecting a little more; the turkey was pretty bland. I didn't love any of the four sauces that they had either. I know that the potato salad would be rich, but it was way to creamy. Too much sour cream for the amount of potatoes present! The Mac and cheese was not bad. The best thing about this visit was the bartender (we sat at the bar for dinner). She was young, and very sweet. She let us try a few beers on tap before ordering, and also brought us a sample of the pulled pork and the pork belly. Based on the food, I don't think I'll come back.

THIS IS BBQ HEAVEN!!! Hands down THEE best BBQ I've EVER had. Great service, atmosphere, bar and local craft beers on tap. The smells drew me in and now I never wanna leave. I will go outta my way to come back next time I'm in Chaz.

Without a question - my favorite BBQ joint in Charleston. Parking sucks, so do yourself a favor and park at the grocery store next door and walk in FRONT of Hibachi. When I lived in KC - I picked up a burnt ends habit and Swig & Swine is my new pusher in town. They call 'em something different, but they're a little piece of old KC heaven in the Holy City. Portions are huge, so we split one meal with an extra side for two. Also - the Brunswick stew is like BBQ smack. Don't say I didn't warn you.

The food is absolutely to die for. You can't ask for a better staff or for better bbq style food. You can not go wrong with the family platter you get some of everything they cook

I come from a place where it is hard to find good bbq. So during a visit to Charleston, I knew brisket would be part of my first meal. Great service, great food and great beer. Too stuffed to eat my banana pudding, so I took some to go.

My girlfriend and I tried this place Sunday afternoon. Our initial impression was not so good. There are only about 6 spots to park. However, they do share parking with Doscher's the next lot over, but until you get inside you do not know that since there are no signs. Also, the walk behind the Hibachi restaurant is rather unpleasant. Enough to where I can tell you one place that I will never review as I will never step foot in. We sat down and ordered a blood mary and the pckled vegetable app Again I was disappointed since they were sweet pickles which was not indicated on the menu. My recommendation to that, offer both, or at least indicate they are sweet. I will say this, they were not bad, but after 2 or 3 I was done. My money would've been better spent on something else. My girlfriend ordered 6 wings a side salad. The side salad was jus that, chopped iceburg, sliced cucs, and cherry tomatoes. Meh. But, she also ordered 6 wings. They were pretty awesome. Smoked and then finished in the fryer to crisp the skin. I always like to try my wings and other meats plain first, then add sauce as needed. I tried one of hers, no sauce needed, it was delicious. I ordered the two meat platter with 2 sides. I got the sausage which was good, spicy, but good. I also go the turkey. It had great flavor, but was luke warm and a little dry. The sides I got were the rice and hash, and mac and cheese. The mac and cheese needed salt, but was still pretty good. Very creamy and cheesy, but with out being oily and broken. The hash was both sweet and spicy. A concern I had with the food was that everything was spicy, and not just a little. it was SPICY. I love spoicy food, hot sauce is not an unfamiliar face at the dinner table. But I could see where this would turn quite few people away from this place. But the portions were good, and overall everything was pretty good. I would go back.

Holy savory goodness! Did the barbecue gods in heaven create this place so that we can experience true enlightenment? This is some of the best barbecue I've ever had, and is hands-down the best barbecue in all of Charleston! The staff is so on point and handles their customers with integrity, transparency, & hospitality. They are so down to earth! The owner is always smiling, friendly, and laid-back. You can see the sizzling cuts of meat in the glass case ready to just melt in your mouth! The prices for the amount of food you get & the quality of the food are even more outrageous! Not to mention their options of beer on tap is enough to pair with just about anything you could think of. If you can't think of what to pair it with just ask your server who happens to know the intimacies of every beer invented and what she would recommend it with. At least our server Jude did. I have gone over to friend's houses, saw that they had swig and swine leftovers in their fridge and unashamedly stole bites, okay maybe more than bites. I'm telling you if you haven't tried this place get over there now because you don't want to miss it!

I've been to most BBQ joints in the Charleston area. Swig & Swine is the best....hands down! I'm giving them a 4 out of 5 because I haven't been to all BBQ restaurants yet. Final verdict to come.....

Totally legit BBQ in Charleston! S&S puts to shame some of the other mediocre BBQ joints here. You can tell that the BBQ here is born of a love for the art. We had the smoked brisket, smoked pork belly and smoked sausage. I didn't ask, but I'm positive that the sausage is house made, and exquisite. The sides we chose were pickled veg and mac and cheese - one of the best mac and cheese's I've ever had. I would have given them 5 stars, but sadly the bourbon pie was downright bizarre. Filling was fine but the crust had a savory/onion flavor/refrigerator flavor, and we couldn't eat it.

My son and I had a great meal here the other night. I got the ribs and they fell right off the bone. His brisket was perfectly prepared. Wait staff was friendly and prompt worth their service. To top it off, they have a great selection of beers to choose from. Outstanding!

My friends and I were recently visiting from California and drove by Swig and Swine. Loved the name and just have to try it. We ordered the Sampler. Great Choice! All of the Meat was prepared perfectly, but we liked the Brisket and the Pork Belly the best. It was alot of food and though we were four hungry women we could not finish it. The Coconut Pie for dessert was really great too.

  • Art H.

Nice people and great BBQ! The pulled pork was succulent and smokey with a nice bit of bark. The homemade sausage was over the top. The sauces were good with just enough acid to keep the fat of the meat from being too much. The sides were good but the pickled vegetables were a bit disappointing. They were nothing more than a bowl pickle chips (which were already on the plate) with some pickled sliced carrots and one piece of pickled okra. If there had been some cauliflower or beets added to the mix they would have received 5 stars. The wait staff was friendly and accommodating. We will be back for more the next time we are in Charleston.

Wonderful! Ate here our first night in Charleston and enjoyed it immensely! Our server was Austin and he was fabulous! We did not want for a thing and he also brought out a special jalapeño bbq sauce that made the meal! If you are looking for happy this is the place! Definitely try the Brunswick stew... you will be glad you did! We liked it so much we took a pint back to the hotel!

I really want to take my time writing this review. I have a group of friends who do a trip each year sampling the best BBQ this country has to offer. Our 7th annual trip took up to South Carolina. We started in Greenville, then to Columbia and finally ended in Charleston. Let me save you some time if you are traveling through SC. Just go straight to Charleston and stop at Swig & Swine. Chef Anthony is the real deal. The personal tour of the custom built smoker showed me this is a guy dedicated to his craft and taking BBQ to a new level. We were greeted by a super friendly waitress who made some great recommendations for our starters. We tried the pork rinds drizzled with buffalo sauce and crumbs of blue cheese. Our team had never had anything like this before. They were light and unexpectedly airy. We also tried the pigs ear. This too was a culinary masterpiece. Since there are six of us that travel and review these restaurants, we couldn't decide on any one meat. We opted for the family platter for $39. This was enough for each of us to try a small sample of smoked goodness: Wings, turkey, pork belly, pulled pork, brisket and ribs. We got mac and cheese, potato salad and beans for our sides. Since our trip to Kansas City, we know good burnt ends so we got a side order of ends. The burnt ends were not as good as I have ever had but everything else was top notch. The brisket as good as I have had since Lockhart, TX. Pulled pork and ribs were a 10. All meats we sampled had an excellent smoke flavor from the Hickory / Live Oak combo treatment. I don't even remember if they had sauces because the meat was so good, it didn't need any sauce. In my opinion, this is the true testimony to quality meat. Chef Anthony's expertise doesn't stop with meat and sides. The desserts were off the chart too. Save room for one of his buttermilk pies. I assure you that you've never had anything like this before. Banana pudding and pecan pie were also a 9+ It's hard to believe these guys have only been in business for 10 months. Clearly, Anthony is bringing many years of experience and true science to the product he is producing at Swig and Swine.

I've been here a couple time. The meat is awesome. Their side aren't the best but the meat makes up for it. The are the best I West Ashley in my opinion. The only negative I have today is the smell. I came in to sit at the bar and eat but the smell is over whelming. It honestly smells like poop. I'm not sure if it's a customer or the business. I've never experience this smell here before but right now its unbearable.

We had the pulled pork, pork belly, and roasted chicken and everything was delicious! You should never eat barbecue anywhere else in Charleston! The Mac & Cheese is one of the best I've eaten and I'm a true Southerner. Each sauce was on point and our food server was lovely and helpful! The restaurant was decorated really nicely with super clean restrooms!! A must for anyone who lives or is visiting Charleston. Meow.

A-MAZING!! We went from a neighbor's recommendation and will surely be back again and again. As a first-timer, we ordered the cheese & meat appetizer (yumO pimiento cheese guys! Just YumO!) Then came dinner. We again choose the family sampler for $38. WELL WORTH the bang for the buck AND true smoked BBQ. I mean, you actually see the smoker when you pull up. Very comfy atmosphere. Craft beer choices galore. Being non-beer drinkers we got sweet tea (we *are* in the south!) This family dinner had every kind of meat (various pork, turkey, chicken, sausage, brisket) and you pick three monster sides. See pic. We had copious leftovers to split amongst our group. No one left hungry or without leftovers, sauces, etc. Do not miss dessert. Again- DO. NOT. MISS. DESSERT. Buttermilk pie and fresh banana pudding - individual sized but pie was easily shared as well. Run to this place. All other BBQ pales to here.

I really loved this place but I think the food has gone down the hill recently. It seems like the quality of food has changed and some of their signature flavors are lacking. Is this because the business has really taken off and they're trying to keep up?

    (3)
  • Chris A.

I was really looking forward to my first S and S experience, but I was disappointed. For an overpriced barbecue meal the food was dry and didn't have very much flavor. It may have been an off day for them, but when you pay that much for quality barbecue you expect consistency. Maybe we will give it one more shot and hope for a more enjoyable experience.

We had ribs, pulled pork, smoked turkey and brisket. Ribs were excellent... Nice smoke ring, tender, bite off the bone not overdone, no need for sauce. Turkey, pulled pork were moist and as good or better than any of the many BBQ places I have tried. Brisket was moist and good. Nice interior and atmosphere. Excellent service. The waitress wanted to make sure I was not disappointed. She told me that the collard greens were a bit sweet with a touch of heat... The craft IPA was very hoppy... Both were exactly as described. Very good selection of tap and bottle beer. Take home portions. Sauces on table were: Carolina mustard, tomato vinegar, tomato sweet & Alabama white... All good to ok. Waitress suggested and brought a jalapeño sauce which was the only sauce I would rate very good.

Just recently stopped by here on my way into Charleston nice hip down south vibe ordered the half rack with two sides service was helpful on selecting my entree but as for the entree itself it had much to be desired ribs lacked flavor and substance the sides they had available the Mac and cheese and cole slaw were put to the side right after I took the spoon out of my month Mac tasted like velveta and cole slaw didn't taste like much of anything sorry to say I won't be back next time I visit Charleston

Really fun, casual, hip, great wait staff with industrial decor. The chicken wings were amazing! Spicy collards excellent! The brisket sandwich and turkey sandwich were very good and moist. They could use a little more smoky flavor. We had to add the BBQ sauce to complete the sandwich. Great place!

First off I'm not a BIG meat fan.....I'll rephrase that! I never really crave BBQ or Brisket but Swig and Swine is a place everyone needs to try! Went there the other day with the girls from work. The parking was alittle bit of a problem since the parking lot is but so big but we didn't have a problem getting a table. I was alittle surprised too since it was exactly noon on Thursday. I got the special which was the 3 sliders and a side of mac and cheese for only $10!!!!! Great deal. My favorite slider was the pulled pork. It had so much flavor, tender and absolutely delicious! The other two sliders were okay. The brisket was too fatty and I had to pick around the fat and the other slider was the turkey which was just kinda bland. Next time I go I'm gonna stick with the plain pulled pork sandwich! So good! And finally the mac and cheese.........FANTASTIC! I've had my fair share of mac and cheese and realized that if anyone puts bread crumbs in their mac and cheese and it will be amazing and Swig and Swine did just that! God Bless Mac and cheese! :)

This place is yummy. We have been several times and it has always been good. If you go with a few people, get the family platter. It's a better deal, has a lot of food and allows you to sample more. Seriously, you need to eat here at some point in your life.

Great BBQ place in charleston. You can see the smokers right outside and you can smell everything as you walk to the front door. I had the smoked brisket and pulled pork with a side of the stew. Everything tastes fantastic. My only negative was the beer selection was kind of lacking, however the food made up for it.

The BEST BBQ hands down!!! I've been to many BBQ places all over Charleston and by far this has been the best. The portions are HUGE!!! We order the family platter and OMG!!! We have enough to eat for the next few days. The food was top notch!!! I highly recommend this place!!!

Our first visit. We had smoked turkey that was so excellent we ordered a pound to take home.. Service was exceptional. Our waitress was friendly, prompt and accommodating. (All of the staff seemed equally friendly and professional.) Our waitress offered us samples of beer we were unfamiliar with and a side special. We are hooked!

I recently had the chance to check out Swig & Swine in Charleston, SC. I first had a chance to try their food while visiting a local brewery that they were catering. A few days later, I had to seek out their restaurant and I was not disappointed. When I stepped out of the car, the scent of delicious BBQ instantly hit me. I took a seat at the bar and was quickly greeted by the bartender. He was very friendly and made me feel welcomed. Their beer selection was good and I ended up choosing a beer out of Savannah that I had never seen on tap in Raleigh. I ended up ordering the burnt ends plate, which came with two sides. The food was delicious. It was my first time having burnt ends, as they are hard to find, and they were amazing. I ordered the baked beans and rice with hash for sides and they were very good too. This is some of the best BBQ I've ever had. I wouldn't hesitate going back to this place the next time I'm around the Charleston area.

A true BBQ smoke-master. This place is usually packed. We opted to arrive very early on a Saturday to get in without the press of the hoards that flock to this place. Spouse had the turkey plate, I had the brisket plate. Some of the best brisket I have ever dived into. Good for the foodies in the area to benefit from the proprietors skill set in smoking meat. Taylor was our server and she keep us in need of nothing.

Pros: Top shelf Carolina style pulled pork. Different take on potato salad that may have been the best I've ever had. (Think mashed, chilled, loaded baked potato) Good atmosphere and patio despite being located on such a busy highway. Cons: 4 bbq sauces to choose from and only one was palatable. The mustard sauce was spot on but the rest missed the mark. Could vary by day but the flies on the porch were a problem. Smells from the garbage bins in the back make their way to the patio. So if you're looking for a pulled pork sammy with mustard bbq, then give it a shot. If tomato base is your thing, try the bbq taproom on James Island (my fav in Charleston)

Three friends and I made this our lunch destination for a motorcycle ride from Savannah on Sunday 7/26/15. We got there around 11:45, before it got too crowded and immediately got a large booth. Since my friends didn't want to split the Family Platter I ordered it solo... It was terrific, and everyone else enjoyed their food also. The real reason for this review is that Lee, our server took such good care of the piggy in the group (me) needing to load up leftovers suitably for saddlebag travel. She ended up getting me 6 (yes, the platter is a lot of food!) Chinese soup takeout-type containers that let everything travel perfectly. Lee, if you read this my wife thanks you also!

LOVE. Anytime someone comes to visit us in Charleston we now take them to Swig & Swine. Any excuse we can find to come in and order the family platter. Seriously. It is amazing. Smoked turkey, smoked wings, ribs, pulled pork, pork belly, brisket and my favorite- the homemade sausage. Don't even get me started on the 3 sides you get with the platter. Love their Mac and cheese! The potato salad is delicious, and I don't normally like potato salad. We usually go with baked beans or collards for our third side...either way = yum! The staff is super friendly. Beer selection is great. Pretty much everything that's important to me I'm a good restaurant :)

  • Dylan T.

Damn good BBQ and damn good value. Honestly, I don't think you could go wrong here...unless you're not into BBQ, or if you're a vegetarian/vegan. I think the Family Platter is by far the best deal. If you have to take food home, do it because you'll want it again later. The pulled pork, brisket, and ribs were all great. I would've been happier with any extra of those. The mac n cheese, beans, and cole slaw were all delicious...among the best I've had. I could see this place getting busy and packed (in fact, parking was a challenge), so I'd encourage calling ahead to scope out how busy they are, or just ordering to go.

This review relates only to the swine - unless you count swigs of ice water ;) My family + friends and I came here on a Saturday afternoon for lunch. We knew we were a big group as a party of 6, and that we were going at prime lunch time, but were willing to wait for a table. We ended up waiting quite a while, as although they had big enough tables for us, several parties were taking their sweet time when it came to finishing up the meal. Service: One of the overseers (JT) noticed that we had been waiting for much longer than they quoted us, and even when were seated, it took the waitresses a long time to get to us to even bring us water. He graciously gave us a complimentary appetizer and sent a busboy over to take our drink orders. Food: Their meat and cheese appetizer was delicious - with their homemade sausage (kind of like kielbasa) was full of flavor. The crackers that come with it are ordinary ritz crackers, so if you were looking for something fancier, don't get this one. We split the family platter (it comes with some of every meat they have) and split it among a family of 5, and still had leftovers! Their chicken wings we thought were the best - extremely moist, but cooked - and flavorful throughout. The pulled pork, ribs, and beef brisket were close seconds, and we also loved the turkey and pork belly. For sides, we chose their pickled veggies, their hash and rice, and the stew. This is a great deal and a great way to sample everything they have. Everything we ate, we pretty much enjoyed! The only thing that wasn't our favorite was when we tried my husband's baked potato salad. It was very creamy/mayonnaise-y so if you don't like mayonnaise, this is not a good choice for you. Ambience: What I really appreciated about the restaurant was that it was clean, well lit, modern, hip, and NOT STICKY! I've been to several BBQ places, and while yes, it does add character, I mostly find it gross when the floor/tables are sticky with BBQ sauce remnants. Overall: delicious food, we only wish the service was a little faster and that they were a bigger restaurant! :)

Bummed to say that unlike all of my previous experiences, our to go order was sub par today. Last time I got the smoked turkey I was blown away, so excited that a healthier option was so amazingly soft, tender, juicy and flavorful. When ordering (to-go) the turkey this time, we had to wait a minute while they checked something. My guess based on how the turkey was a bit dry and lacking in flavor is that they were checking to see if they had any in a fridge. It was in my opinion the difference between Thanksgiving day and day 4 of leftovers. A bit bummed that I'm not sure if I want to risk ordering the turkey again. Could be great...could be very meh.

Came here last night for the restaurant week special . Wonderful food and service. Thanks Belinda for your warm personality and great service! Ribs , chicken , and brisket were all top notch ! The pecan pie dessert was as large as a mini pie !

Surprisingly Charleston doesn't have a ton of options when it comes to great BBQ. Of all the restaurants in the city, I would argue Swig & Swine is the best option for BBQ, offering pulled pork, brisket, smoked turkey, pork belly, sausage, wings and ribs. I love to order the Two-Meat plate for $16, which comes with choice of two sides. The pulled pork and smoked turkey are the best in my opinion, as the pork belly is a bit fatty and the brisket a bit dry. Even though the meat is tasty enough on its own, I love dousing it in the selection of homemade BBQ sauces at the table which include white based, vinegar based, mustard based and red. The southern-style sides are simple with eight options including mac & cheese, beans, collards, pickled vegetables, baked potato salad, etc. You really can't go wrong with a meal here. Must-order items: Smoked Turkey Pulled Pork Pickled Vegetables Banana Pudding

We visited the Swig and Swine with the entire family and friends. Total of 14 in our party. NO PROBLEM!! Service was warm and friendly and spot on. Thank you Belinda!! Where else can a family of five have dinner, dessert and bring home leftovers for under $50?! The family platter was amazing!! We had three when two would have been enough. For the beer drinkers, the craft beer selection is AWESOME!!! Best barbecue I've ever had. Long trip from Jersey but we will be back!!! AGAIN AND AGAIN!!!

Fast service and super friendly wait staff. This is a great place to kick back with friends and enjoy a great selection of booze and some authentic smokey BBQ. I think one thing that could be improved upon is their sides. They are all on the sweet side. The collards especially were much to sweet. All the sweet sides feel like overload with the BBQ instead of complimentary.

The food was excellent, the beer choices were outstanding, and the staff was pretty cool. My only complaint is that when we walked into the building it smelled ODD. That's all I'm going to say. It didn't smell that way all over, it was just in the entryway. We almost turned around to leave.

Great place with very friendly servers and nice portion sizes. The pulled pork is great - personally not a fan of the sauces but many people are. I love their baked potato salad as well as their banana pudding! I would come back! P.S. - you can park in the Doscher's lot next door if their lot is full!

Awesome bbq! The potato salad is the best I've ever had. It taste like a sour cream base. Me and my wife always share the 2 meat plate with smoked turkey and pulled pork. Great local beers right on draft! Lot of food for the price. The In laws came to town and we purchased the family platter . It filled all 4 of us and we had enough food for another meal for two for leftovers. All the sides are delicious.

My wife and kids decided to try Swig and Swine after reading the reviews on Yelp while in our vacation in Charleston. One thing I wanted to eat while in SC was the Barbecue. I can say with all confidence that S&S did not disappoint. The place itself is very swanky and Southern looking. As a Marketing Director / Designer one of the things I always look at is the branding. They did a nice job with the logo, color scheme and decor of their establishment. Next thing that got my interest was the wait staff. Our waitress was great, she was knowledgable very friendly and made sure our drinks were always full. To me that is what makes for great service. Now let's talk abut the food. We had the Pork Rinds with blue cheese and Tabasco. It was great!! I mean how can you go wrong with pork rinds as an appetizer? We also had the pimento cheese with crackers. I have seen this a lot around Charleston so I am assuming it's a staple in SC. That was also great, simple yet satisfying. I had the Pork Belly with Coleslaw and Macaroni and Cheese, along with an Old Fashion to wash it all down. I loved it. The Mac and cheese was great, the coleslaw was nothing spectacular but still good and the pork had a nice taste. They have 4 sauces to choose from; a mustard based sauce, a horseradish type sauce, a vinegar based sauce and a more traditional tomato based sauce (not as sweet as I am used to). All in all this place is a winner and if you find yourself in the area I totally recommend a stop here.

Fried pickles with honey mustard. AMAZING! If there were 6 stars id give em all! We got the family platter at the recommendation of our server Chelsea, GOOD CALL! It came with ALL their meats, sausage, chicken wings, turkey, brisket, ribs and pulled pork. I was going to rate each one individually but I'll make it easy the sausage gets an 8 out of 10 and everything else is a 10!! The only reason the sausage gets an 8 is because it's sausage. The ribs are SUPER MEATY which is hard to find these days. Their home made sauces AMAZING! Home made deserts AMAZING! The family platter is only $39! It fed our family of four with plenty left over. It also comes with 3 pint sides. We got the Mac and Cheese (out of this world), potato salad (great) and hash and rice (amazing). Ask for Chelsea, she's as amazing as the food! WITHOUT A DOUBT THE BEST BBQ JOINT IN CHARLESTON!!!!

Yelped this place and yelp has not disappointed us once again! Food was sooo sooo good! If in town and want some good southern BBQ this place is a must go! Definitely order the wings! We love wings and the wings here are hands down one of the best we have had! Portions are more than enough! A three meat combo including the wings were good for me and my and we can EAT! Lol.

This is one of the places in town that definitely lives up to all the great reviews and articles. Charleston isn't exactly lacking in BBQ places, but this one is at the top of my list. Let me just throw this out to you- FAMILY PLATTER! It's an ah-mazing deal and worth every penny. I've shared it with 3 other adults and we still had 2 carryout boxes to take home. I love that you get a chance to taste everything- pork belly, chicken wings, brisket, sausage, ribs, smoked turkey and pulled pork. If you're looking to come down with a really good case of the meat sweats you can add the hash and rice as one of your sides. Speaking of sides...they have great sides too! The mac-n-cheese and collard greens are my favorite but the baked beans, pickled veggies, and hash with rice are good too. I'm not a coleslaw person so you're going to have to try that out for yourself. The pimento cheese appetizer is one of my standards and we get it every time we come. Bar service and management have been very good. The wait service has it's good and bad days but even their bad days aren't that bad. The bar serves an impressive array of bourbons and has a fun cocktail menu. If you've never had bourbon with your BBQ then you don't even know what you've been missing. This is also a great place to go with a larger group of people but keep in mind that they don't take reservations, so have someone show up early to get a table.

The meat The meat The meat Smoked Turkey..Oh my mouth watering Brisket.Top notch and added to the collards Pulled pork...mmmm mmmm good. Folks, we got a lot of BBQ here in Charleston. Let's just say, it is a way of life. Some do it well, some do it ok. Some make it fancy and some just like to get their hands dirty. This place, my friends, puts the upscale in BBQ and still makes you feel like you are at home. We will start with the fine selection of homemade BBQ sauces: White based, vinegar based, mustard based, red...They will meet all your finicky needs. Salads. Yes they have salads. Make sure you add $3 for some of the great meat. The veggies are not mixed in, but portioned throughout the plate. You have to do some mixing if you want the diversity to hit your taste buds. The decor is funky fun. That is all I am saying. Funky fun. The staff. They love their jobs. You can just tell in their swagger. When you walk in, the smell will hit you like a brick house. I know, some of you got that song stuck in your head now. Make sure you ask for a sample if you are just not sure. They will wrangle it up for you. Sides...Mac and Cheese, Collards and Hash...Oh Yeah!!!! Oh Oh Oh Yeah!!! Go, now.

The staff was super friendly. From start to end there was true southern hospitality to this meal. Our waitress was super helpful, we expressed we wanted to try the brisket, pork belly, and ribs and she was spot on about how much we should order. Without a doubt the winner was the brisket but the pork belly came in a very close second. The ribs were very good as well but if I had to choose, I would choose the brisket. My one critique would be the lack of parking. Not a deal breaker but something to keep in mind.

Great fun place! Super staff . The Mac and cheese is the best in town . Ask for the Kentucky bourbon barrel aged beer. It goes great with the Alman brothers ! This place rocks!

I know everyone has opinions, and their own is the best. I'm a South Carolina BBQ nut. I'm a pretty harsh critic in my opinion, and think that true good BBQ in South Carolina is available in almost every town, but not all BBQ is good. Swig & Swine, have got it down to a perfection. I'm also a huge beer drinker, and at first thought adding beer to my BBQ would take up much needed room for BBQ. It actually helped me not overeat, which would have been easy at the Swig and Swine! My wife, mother-in-law, and I went to Swig & Swine on a Saturday. My mother-in-law eats earlier than we do, so our compromise was getting there at about 5:45. We had no wait, but I'm pretty sure if you got there 5 minutes later there would have been one. We started with a couple pints and the Tabasco & Blue Cheese Pork Rinds... O M G ! ! ! They were still crackling when they arrived. I was weary about cheese on my pork rinds, but holy Mary mother of all things holy these were the best pork rinds ever. I've had the fresh ones at other places, but these were by far the best EVER. We got the family platter which was an incredible deal for the amount of food. It was also a way to try everything, so next time we came we could just pick our favorite. Unfortunately, narrowing down a favorite would be impossible. The meats are prepared sauce-less for the most part, but at your table you have the choice of sauces from all regions: Sweeter red, Pepper Vinegar, Mustard, and even an Alabama white. Like most dudes my size, wings are also a a favorite in general, but Swig & Swine's smoked wings may be the best I've ever had. Their pit master is a genius. They was as much crunch as a fried wing, but they tasted as smokey as the bark on a brisket. The pulled pork was amazing as well. My biggest shock was they prepared pork belly that I liked. I know this is the new golden ticket at many places but I've never had it were I though anything more than "it's just too fatty for me." I've even had it at Husk, but never have been a fan until Swig & Swine. The brisket and turkey were also delicious and something I'd come back for, but one of my favorites was the smoked sausage. Just amazing. On to the sides a shining point of any southern BBQ place. An SC original to the BBQ scene is Hash & Rice. I largely base my opinion of a BBQ joint in the Palmetto state by the execution of their hash and rice. Again, Swig and Swine came through. We also had their Brunswick Stew, and Mac & Cheese. All great, but I only picked at the other two in order to eat more of the smoked meats. I must note that they had a burnt end sandwich I almost got to go to take to the beach the next day, but after all of this meat I went vegetarian for two days. We put a huge dent in this family platter and also came home with two full boxes of leftovers. This is a WEST ASHLEY GEM! I can't wait to return.

Had to stop in for the name alone, the brisket was a little dry other than that the food is good and the service also. The beer selection is great lots of local brewery's goods on tap. The atmosphere is casual and friendly. I would go back.

We had food catered at work this weekend and to my delight...it was smoked meats...love trying new eateries.. Okay ...there were sides...but I go straight for the meats...pulled pork and brisket...the brisket was hands down the better...LOVED the crust...and it was seasoned very good...tender... huge portion...pulled pork was okay...would have enjoyed more crust... more smoke...and rub...did not add any sauces... like the meat to stand on it's own...and it did... Tried collard greens for the first time...did not like... first ...omg the smell...and can't do sweet and sour veggies... Gonna go there...the meat was tastey.. And will try other sides... So jazzed...when managers...or owners connect...thank you. .will definitely...drop in...

Delicious food. Generous portions. Friendly staff. Decent draft list. The pulled pork here is amazing. So are the ribs and pretty much everything else. Sides include the typical Mac and cheese, potato salad, hash, etc. the Mac and cheese is good and everyone I was with loved it. I personally found it to be way too salty, but it was still good- I just couldn't eat a lot of it. You can sit outdoors or inside. The tables inside obviously have a much noisier atmosphere. There are community tables as well as smaller tables. Outside there is a lot of seating space. Parking can be hard to find at the actual restaurant but there is a big parking lot next door that a lot of people park in to go eat there.

I've always maintained that Home Team has the best BBQ in Charleston, but I think it's time to move that title over to Swig & Swine. I've had lunch catered from there and been to their location, and both times the food was great. I think I've sampled close to everything they have to offer, but it's their brisket and white sauce that is the best. Their sausage, pulled pork and homemade pickles are also some of the best in the area. It also feels like a BBQ restaurant. They serve their entrees on a tray lined with butcher paper. The only complaint I might have is if you go during weekend dinner hours, be prepared to wait. With great BBQ comes long lines, but at least they have a bar.

We had Swig and Swine cater our son's wedding reception this past Saturday. From set-up to finish, the S and S crew were great! We were serving outside, and the little bit of rain we had didn't dampen the spirits of the crew. They were real troopers. All of the prepared dishes were excellent and the portions were overly generous! I would highly recommend Swig and Swine for any BBQ catering needs.

AMAZING BBQ. Everything was delicious from the fall off the bone beef rib, homemade pickles, jalapeño barbecue sauce, brisket beans, and the Big Bubba is a great adult beverage. I wish I could partake in the fine looking microbrews. Are waitress, Roxy, fit in with the rest of the Ravens reviews. Good job y'all.

Ok so the meat obviously is awesome, no shortage on flavor or smokiness. I opted for this spot on a Monday night, they had a 1/2 chicken meal for $12, it was worth more for the portion, but thank you Swig and Swine for frugal option. Chicken was really seasoned, tender and delish, I couldn't eat it all, it could have been shared. I tried hash and rice for the first time, the meat gravy was delish with a bit sweetness, I would have eaten it all....but the rice was crispy. I was bummed, because this side could've rocked otherwise. Of course the piece de la resistance is their mac and cheese!!! If I could marry it, I'd live happily ever after. I think I may have tasted bits of ritz crackers....if intentional was awesome and yummy, otherwise still yummy! Next time I'm splitting the meat plate with my whole family, this place doesn't skimp!

While on vacation in Charleston we saw the sign from the road and had to stop in. The food was good service was good the matter of fact we cleaned two plates of double meat combos. My wife normally doesn't eat that much but she was very impressed with the food and so was I. If we ever make it back to Charleston that will be one of our stops.

On a 1-10 scale, the food was above average. (8) The service was absolutely terrible. Took 15 mins to put in an order. After we ate, took almost 30mins to get a bill and pay with credit card. Unless you have at least a hour to kill, I wouldn't recommend this place. (Not a place for a quick lunch)

Living in Charleston SC Great BBQ is everywhere. I have tried quite a few in the Charleston area and have not had my expectations blown away like they were at Swig & Swine. But last night I tried Swig & Swine for the first time arriving 1/2 hour before closing time so we were gonna order to go. Scott the manager was genuine and friendly inssisted we to dine in. I worked as a server for at least 10 years so I try to never dine in that late. After being turned away from several major players in the BBQ scene we made a quick phone call to swig & swine asking about a take out order. Not only was the lady that answered Super friendly she gladly said checked to make sure they had a full rack. Anyone that truly loves BBQ can understand what I mean when I say we were having a full blown stage 5 Rib emergency! Swig & Swine delivered when everyone else let me down.... Oh and how they delivered! We had a lady start us off with drinks. I asked her about Swine wine and the lady was honest giving her opinion that it wasn't her style. I also worked as a certified bartender for about 5 years. I took a chance... i was wrong and she was right. It tasted like a cheap bitter wine cooler and I wish I had listened. Scott the manager was very attentive in changing it to help make it right. I changed it to a low country sweet tea mojito. It was not bad but not something I would order again. The drink menu looks very exciting but maybe trying to hard. I can appreciate the creativity and I have not tried them all. But I feel like they are unnecessarily complicated and not there yet. Tina was our server and the food came out in no time. She was Fun and friendly great at being attentive. It was my husband and mother and I. My husband is a native Southerner and has very high expectations for both his BBQ and his sweet tea. He gave 2 thumbs up for both. Ribs: a revalation! Traditional St Louis-style dry rub. Moist, tender, flavorful, and nicely seasoned--not too salty...just right. No sauce necessary. Pulled Pork: just as tender as the ribs. Served without sauce. Sweet Tea: husband said it could be a little sweeter, but he ALWAYS says that..I loved it. Mac'n'Cheese: loved that they made it with "seashell"-style pasta. Firm, but creamy and with a subtle hint of spice--perhaps cayenne. Pimento Cheese appetizer: thick, chunky, & and possibly my favorite Pimento cheese ever. Served with half a sleeve of Ritz crackers. Brunswick Stew: I love Brunswick stew and this is a good one. Husband's mother makes my fave...hers has more tomato base. This one is very thick and is even better the next day as leftovers. Coleslaw: simple strips of cabbage with a pretty good flavor Desserts looked awesome but that will have to be another time. Tina was close to selling it though... lol Size portions were very good for the 3 of us to share and take left overs to love the next day. In fact I am enjoying them right now! But to finish this I found it to be a Fantastic place with a great staff, great surroundings, and Great food! I loved it and Highly recommend it to Everyone!! Thank you Scott and Tina for a great experience

It gets five stars because they have the best ribs we ever tasted! Nice place with ok nice decor for being a BBQ place. It was also nice to sit down and order instead of having to wait in line to place an order as we had to do in all other BBQ joints. Nice and friendly staff. Really great white BBQ sauce. All sauces are set on your table so you can try them all out. Would definitely go back!

We let the craze settle down before we braved this place. It was worth it. I didn't think the interior would be as nicely decorated and upscale as it was. Their beer list was expansive and had my favorite , Sky Blue on it, which previously have only been able to find at the Triangle is west ash. The portions were huge so my husband and I decides to split a two meat plate so our guts could accommodate pimento cheese before and naner pudding after. Pimento cheese was the bomb because it didn't waste a lot of time on cream cheese like the other PCs in the area do. The brisket comes highly recommended but the pulled pork was a tad dry. The banana pudding was tasty but would have benefit for a few more big chunks of wafer...a tad banana happy. I would go back, but not before Home Team BBQ.

They have 'PAPPY'. If you don't know what that is, don't worry. If you do know, then you have to go here now. Expensive, but you can't find it in too many places. Now for the food..if you love BBQ, this is it. Many beers on tap. Sit at the back table and watch as they make everything. Amazing! This is meat heaven. I can't wait to go back. Owner comes around to make sure you're happy. I was very, very happy. But if he gave me a free 'PAPPY', I would have been in my own heaven. WOW. Frank G

I haven't been able to stop thinking about this place since I went. A group of four of us ordered the family platter which came with pulled pork, brisket, ribs, smoked turkey, sausage, pork belly, and wings as well as three sides. We got mac n cheese, pickled vegetables, and baked beans and brisket. It was so much food, too much food even, and we still got dessert because Saturday isn't Saturday without overstuffing yourself. My personal favorites: Wings - the spices and sauce created a delicious, flavorful bark-like layer on the meat. It was phenomenal. Pork belly - because pork belly. Duh. Mustard BBQ Sauce - this sauce was so good, I wanted to drink it. Blueberry cheese pie - with homemade whipped cream?! Come on. Everything else was still really good, but those things were stand out. (Other desserts included chocolate pecan pie, banana pudding, and peach cobbler) My only issues were: The first round of sweet tea was only slightly sweeter than unsweet tea, however this was not the case after a refill. The baked beans in the beans and brisket weren't quite cooked enough (but the flavor was still heaven). The smoked turkey was a little dry - I prefer JBs Smokeshack's turkey based on this tasting. The service was excellent and the atmosphere was casual and welcoming. I will definitely go back here, but next time I'll either restrain myself from eating so much.... or I'll wear baggier clothes.

Swig n Swine has officially catapulted to the top of the leaderboard for your choice of sensational smoked meats. The special brisket sandwich is legendary and the pulled pork sandwich is also fantastic. Great smoke flavor, nice bark, tender and delicious. The Mac and cheese, beans with brisket, and baked potato salad sides also complement the sandwiches very well. Home Team and Smokey are also great but Swig n Swine has jumped to the top.

I wouldn't be surprised at all if Swig & Swine was the best BBQ place in South Carolina. The food was that good. I came to South Carolina to find the best BBQ and my friends I have found it. Swig & Swine delivered on its glowing yelp reviews with full red, white, & blue guns blazing. We were seated at a booth and met our incredibly charming and deadpan funny waitress Jude, who gave us the lowdown and offered suggestions throughout the meal. For an appetizer, we ordered the Fried Pickles ($5) The pickles were crunchy and delicious, with only a little batter on them (which I prefer) and a tasty honey mustard sauce. Perusing the menu, we all decided to go for the Family Platter ($39). The Family Platter includes three sides (we picked mac & cheese, baked potato salad, and collard greens), three slices of bread, onions, and a wide selection of meats including pulled pork, beef brisket, sausage, smoked turkey, chicken wings, and ribs. It's a lot of taste for little money, and it was more than enough for four people. Needless to say, the Family Platter blew us all away. First the sides - delicious mac & cheese was smooth, thick and cheesy, and the opt to make it with noodle shells, which is a nice change of pace. The baked potato salad was a thick delicious mess made with ranch dressing (I think) -- it could qualify as its own food group. Last the collard greens - big leafy greens with bits of meat cooked with it, and with a delicious taste far better than the bitter taste you usually get. Then the various meats - delicious, succulent, mouth-watering, juicy, delectable and any other synonyms I can't think of at the moment. Everything was cooked perfectly. The highlights for me were the fall-off-the-bone ribs with a caramelized outside and the thick and juicy pulled pork. My girlfriend loved the wings and smoked turkey. Complementing the meats were the various sauces - I loved the vinegar based sauce, the horseradish sauce, and the spicy jalapeno BBQ sauce. Even though we probably received several pounds of food we ate all of it. Needless to say, if you've made it this far, Swig & Swine offers some of the best BBQ I've ever had, and if I lived nearby I would come here daily (and weigh 300 lbs). This is THE place to get your BBQ fix. You're welcome in advance. P.S. Be sure to try the Sweet Tea and get one to go!

The best ribs enter planet at least close it. Service is great; owners close by to thank their customers. Get Mac n Cheese, cole slaw and beans with brisket sides - perfection. Recommend it to everyone visiting SC and I'm sure locals know there is no need to mention. Will come back before going back home to Chicago.

Sooo good!!! Great service and loved the atmosphere, I will definitely be back! The only thing I wasn't a fan of was the Brunswick stew. I love Brunswick stew usually. But I tend to like the mushy, all blended up kind! So that's my only complaint. I would recommend trying it!

Amazing. Best pulled pork I have ever had. There are four sauces on the table and they brought us a jalapeño hot sauce that was by far our favorite. Only complaint would be the music. Eric Clapton's tears in heaven is not what I want to listen to when digging into great barbecue.

Met a friend for lunch this afternoon. I've sampled BBQ joints throughout every corner of this state (I have the entire state as a sales territory) and this was the best I have sampled in 17 years. Sure, I've had great before but not like this. We sat at the bar and the bartendress was super friendly and went in to great detail about every item we asked about. She knew her stuff without a doubt. Started with Fried Pickles--solid. Good job. It's a fried pickle, no need to explain further. Let's get down to meat. The bartender sold us on the "Burnt Ends" (brisket removed from smoker after 15-17 hours, chopped and tossed with a sweet spicy sauce and then put back in the smoker to caramelize the sweet sauce) UNREAL. It was bbq, sweet smoky and tender. It reminded me of a mongolian BBQ or a distant relative. Could have been served with fried rice in my humble opinion. So friggin good. I also had the pulled pork. GREAT. Mac and Cheeze--Great. Rice and hash--A little sweet for my taste, but still very good. I just put some of the spicier sauce on it and made it my own. The food was more expensive than what you see at other bbq spots, but the portions were giant. I have dinner AND breakfast in the fridge now. (don't judge) So the price complaint is easily negated with leftover amounts. And all you people complaining about the lack of parking and "having to walk behind the hibachi place"??? Get over yourselves. You're gonna need to walk for a while after eating here. Do you make the same complaint when eating downtown??? This is why other countries hate us. Kudos dude-o's. You just earned a repeat customer.

We chose this joint among the many available because of the Yelp reviews. I usually agree with Yelp in almost all things, but this time we'll have to agree to disagree. We got the beef brisket plate ($16), which comes with two sides. We opted for the beans w/ brisket and the Brunswick stew. What's Brunswick stew? A fine mix of meat and veggies with seasonings that is what you hope the beans will taste like. The beans, however, were just an overly sweet baked beans with nary a piece of brisket. Very disappointing. The main brisket pieces were decent, with some pieces dry and some moist. All of it lacked a lot of flavor, making the sauces on the table necessary. The vinegar sauce went particularly well with it. It did the job of filling both of us up, but based on this visit, we wouldn't return.

Amazing!! We are from California and could not go home till we had real Southern BBQ. I thank you Yelpers for helping us find this place. Hands down best BBQ I ever have had. I will be thinking about this meal for years to come. The pork belly is so good I will dream about it. It's one of those meals that years from now I will say to my husband " remember that BBQ from South Carolina"? Try it you will love it.

I like the atmosphere I like the staff I liked the menu I really liked the pie and the barbecue was pretty good as well. The brisket could've been a little more tender and a little more flavorful but it was satisfying. overall they're doing a good job and by the number of cars and diners they are well liked. Maybe I'm overly picky and maybe I've been spoiled by other barbecue joints but I did sample all of the meats and while they were good I just can't say I was wowed. Growing up in the south I've eaten lots of barbecue and I think that the best barbecue is most delicious without any sauce and if you have to put sauce on it to make it taste good then there was something lacking in the first place. That said once I put a little sauce on the meat it was delicious they'd get 3 1/2 stars from me if I could give a half but overall not disappointing.

Ok, so I've heard mixed reviews about S&S, so I was a little skeptical going in, but I was totally blown away. The food was fantastic, service was top notch, and atmosphere was great for both families & couples. I came with my boyfriend and his roommate, and we ordered the family platter, which comes with a sampling of pretty much every meat item on the menu, + three sides of your choice for $38 bucks. We split it between the 3 of us and definitely would've had enough for a 4th person, so I highly suggest ordering this if you're in a group. My faves: - Mac & Cheese. I'm a mac and cheese snob, so trust me when I say it's good. - Beans with Brisket. Is this heaven? I'm pretty sure it is. - The ribs. OMG so good - Pulled pork, plus all of the sauces. I'm usually a mustard-only kind of girl, but they definitely had me branching out - Brisket. adslkfjaklg I can't even. - Chicken wings. They were tangy and tender and awesome. I can't wait to go back!

Came here on Saturday with high hopes for good beer and BBQ/pork, but left rather disappointed and I don't plan to return anytime soon. The place was full and we had to park down the street. 10min wait for a table on Saturday afternoon. Got the pimento cheese app. Actually pretty good. Got the sausage (ok) and 2 sides- Mac and cheese (awesome) and Brunswick (also good). My major critique is the food is WAY too sweet. Everything. All 4 sauces were also sweet, just in case you didn't get enough sugar already. No hot sauce? Ouch. No good mustard w the sausage? Ouch. I mean, even the pickles and the vinegar sauce are sweet. I just wish they had some other sauces to offset the sweetness, but the 4 sauces are all sweet, like a cruel joke! What dropped them to 2 stars was the hideous pour by the waitress for my beer. All head (see pic). If you place has "swig" in the name, pouring beers should be covered in the orientation.

Just another satisfied customer here. Went with the family, got the family platter. Had plenty of leftovers to munch on later in the evening. The sausage was spectacular, ribs were fresh and fell off the bone. Chicken special was amazing, and all our sides were so good especially the homemade hash is a must. I'm a fan of Mac n cheese and was happy with theirs, the slaw was good too. All around the platter gave us a little bit of everything and it was all good

Super restaurant. It was just a mile or two from our hotel in North Charleston. The beef brisket is incredible. We also had the pulled pork, coleslaw, mac and cheese and collards. Everything was impressive. The waitress even let us try the Brunswick stew. We didn't know what it was (not locals). It's like beef stew in the north, only spicier. Tasty. The rustic industrial decor is great.

Everything about this place was awesome. Our group of 15 went to swig and swine for lunch Friday and dinner Saturday. The service was friendly and accommodating, and just like the meat, our waitresses were smokin! The food was out of this world. We ordered the family platters so we got to taste everything (brisket, pulled pork, pork belly, turkey, wings to name a few). Chef Tony was nice enough to show our special friend RJ how the smokers worked and explained where on the pig the meat came from. Overall a great time and we will certainly be back.

This place has a tiny parking lot. You can see people are parking in the surrounding areas which may cause an issue down the line. The renovations looked great. The inside was intimate yet roomy even for the two seaters. They have specials so make sure you ask if the server doesn't immediately tell you about them cuz they are not on the menu. I got the Trio Slider special with two sides (the special only comes with one). Yes I was hungry. Don't judge me. Those sliders were huge! It was like eating 3 regular sandwiches. I was very impressed. You get a pulled pork, a brisket and a turkey sandwich. My sides were the Mac and cheese and potato salad. The Mac and cheese had a crunch to it which most baked Mac and cheese get. Also the reason I hat baked Mac and cheese but the softer inside parts were delicious. I was not impressed though by the potato salad. It was not traditional. It wasn't bad I just wasn't impressed. To me it was bland but Danny disagreed and said it was delicious. He on the other hand had collards which went well with their pepper sauce on the table and his rice and hash was very well done. He did get the pulled pork platter which was what I originally ordered until I found out about the sliders.

I love their brisket - I didn't need any sauce!!! The mac and cheese are little shells too. Good beer selection.

The place is cute and the staff is very nice, but with so many barbecue places to choose from in the city, I think there are far better choices. The entrées are served on a metal trays covered with a thin sheet of paper. Eating off of paper was difficult with the turkey plate. My friend's knife kept cutting through it, along with the turkey. On a high note, no pun intended, the music was fabulous!

We stopped in here last Thursday to try out the BBQ since our favorite spot closed a few months ago. I was a little worried by the full, tiny parking lot, but once we got in, we were quickly seated at their chef's table and greeted with a sample of their house made sausage and the pork belly. While I am not one for pork belly, I LOVED the sausage - so much that I immediately decided that is what I wanted for dinner. They do serve Pepsi products, if I remember correctly, so that's always a downside for me. They do have Dr. Pepper though! My husband wasn't pleased with their tea, but since I don't drink it, I can't really say one way or the other. I got the sausage dinner with two sides. I was hesitant about the Baked Potato Salad, since I don't usually do mayonnaise, but it was pretty good. I also had their hash and rice, which was okay. I wasn't really crazy about any part of my meal except the sausage. The portion was huge and it was phenomenal. I would definitely return just for the sausage again. When I was full and thought I could hold no more, I noticed on their giant chalkboard menu that they had Ambrose Farms blueberry cobbler. I must admit, when it came out, I was hesitant since it looks a little odd - just like a soupy mix - but it was fantastic! The Hubs does NOT enjoy blueberries, and he ended up eating half of the cobbler! All in all, the sausage and desert is where it's at. I will definitely be back and might even try something else on the menu! Beware though - it is a little more of a bar setting, if that bothers you. The music was decently loud and there were a lot of people.

Pretty darn good bbq, especially considering I stopped by within a week of them opening. Me and a couple of buddies got the family platter (pictured) which came with a little bit of everything and was a reasonable price ($34). Located next to the Glass Onion, they renovated the old open air car wash/garage building and did a pretty good job with the interior. There are some leaks in the roof they are still repairing and we (along with several other patrons) had to deal with small buckets catching the leaking water dripping from the ceiling. Back to the food: Everything was well prepared...my two favorite meats were the ribs and the brisket. I would certainly order those two items again, but the thing that really stood out to me was the beans w/brisket side. Really really tasty. The other two sides we got: mac and cheese and potato salad were OK but nothing memorable. Still, in Charleston, I still have yet to find a steak that I couldn't prepare better myself or bbq/smoked meat better than my next door neighbor's!!! Altogether, Swig and Swine is worth a shot, but don't expect to be blown away. PROTIP: There are a lot of beers on the menu. Most are about $5...but they have $2 Tecate!!!
