This is the second time eating here and I've concluded pulled pork bbq is not their specialty. Both times it is dry and salty with little to offer in the way of sauces. I had the pulled pork sandwich with Brunswick stew. If you like Brunswick stew it probably is worth a try as it probably was one of the better ones I've tried. I just can't seem to get into Brunswick stew so it's probably not something I will ever really enjoy eating. I put some on top of my bbq pork and it made the pork more tastier. The bun on my sandwich was related to the brick family. Two pieces harder than bones. My boyfriend suggested I take them home.. where they now lay in my yard...as stepping stones. I did like my appetizer, spinach dip and chips with a small bowl of sassy salsa and sour cream on the side for a little variety between spinach dipping. The service received was better than the food. I hate to waste food so I took most of my pulled pork home in a little box topped with some brunswick stew . Hoping it's one of those times when second day magic kicks in and it's better the second day reheated for supper.

The waitress that we got was amazing. Very attentive! The food was spectacular. The steak was done just as asked for and eas juicy as all hell. The meat seemedto be very high quality. Tha ambience is nice and dark. A great place for a date.

I ate at the bar and there was maybe 3 people at the bar total so I had good service no wait etc. had a couple beers and a burger. The burger was awesome and the beers were good. I like to people watch and being one of 3 people in the place is not fun to me. Takes away my entertainment while I eat and drink. I take a star away for lack of customers and one for price for what you get. I feel it's overpriced. Think chain location, think chilli's but pay a third more and boon you have this place.

Leaving now had an absolutely great dinner I love the late night menu it's priced really well food was excellent service is pretty good as well. I was really amazed at how fast they got is the food and it was piping hot. be in mind they weren't really all that busy I'm still really impressed. I highly recommend the pretzel bones with honey mustard sauce instead of the queso!

Had a group event today at Smokeys in which 26ppl attended and it went great. The service was excellent. We went right before the lunch rush so that helped. To eat I had the Turkey avocado burger and I gotta say, I wasn't that impressed. The patty was small and un flavorful and there wasn't enough avocado. I feel as if your gonna have avocado in the name of the dish, it should be a prominent ingredient. Overall my experience was good mainly because the waitstaff did such a great job.

Great food. Love this place but the prices oooo.

In the chain restaurant hell that is North Charleston, this was fine. Our server, hostess, and other servers were very friendly. I got the veggie burger and it was very tasty and a side of broccoli which was also good! Ordered some mashed taters for Pax and this was actually a big misstep - they were sour. The Pax Man was not pleased LOL!!!! Not bad, at all.

It's chain BBQ, no better than Chili's or Applebee's. I went with coworkers, and ordered the pulled pork sandwich with baked beans. The cornbread that a coworker ordered was very good, so I was hopeful, but the sandwich was SUPER dry. I've been smoking and BBQing meat for several years, so maybe I have higher standards, but this just wasn't BBQ, to me. There was little smokey flavor, no moisture, and not a whole lot of taste. The BBQ sauces were ok, but were either too hot or too mild, nothing in the middle. The baked beans were pretty damn good, though!

This is a great place to eat! Good variety and the BBQ is home cooked. Everytime has been excellent!

First BBQ joint that I went to when I came down here. Don't make the same mistake as I did. So I will start off by saying that it is pretty bad. It is chain quality BBQ meaning that those who make it for you haven't had much experience in cooking BBQ outside of warming up a McRib. The meats were beyond dry (and I picked out bones out of my pulled pork) and severely lacking in flavor. The BBQ sauces were nothing special as well considering that they are more than likely mass produced. The restaurant is also still stuck in 1990 and allows smoking which made the experience less than pleasant. Don't go. The food is edible, but then again so is grass and I don't see most people recommending that you eat that.

Fast food BBQ. The best thing on the menu is the corn bread. As for anything else it is ok. I was craving for BBQ one day and this place did not hit the spot. It is not all that is cracked up to be.

In the interest of fairness, I will structure this review as a counter-point to Tristan B's scathing, uncompromising "review." My food analysis is based on the several times I've ordered the babyback ribs and onion rings. This is a chain restaurant; I think we can all accept that. Instead of being low-hanging fruit for someone looking for easy pickings to complain about, the fact that it is a chain should inform the baseline expectation. Nobody is going to go into smokey bones looking for the greatest food in SC. What they can expect, however, is a reasonable price for decent food. The food is exactly that: decent. In fact, the ribs (and KC BBQ sauce available at the table) are great. Every time I've had them, I've experienced good, consistent flavor and meat that falls off the bone. It's exactly what I want when I decide I'm in the mood for ribs. I do agree that the fact that smoking is allowed indoors is irritating, but it's not uncommon for the area at all. Furthermore, the interior is so large that unless you're sitting next to the bar, you will likely not ever realize anybody is smoking. The service has been between perfectly acceptable on the low end and fantastic on the high end. I've never had to wait for a table for more than about a minute and I've never regretted having gone after seeing the bill. If I want good ribs and I don't want to make them myself or pay a ridiculous amount for gourmet food that wouldn't be THAT much better anyway, this is the place to go. Tip: the full rack or ribs is a LOT of food and it comes with two sides. If you and someone else in your party are both in the mood for ribs, get a full rack and split them. Add a side or two if you must, but this is a great way to save.

The service was very good, she checked on us many times. The place was clean and well lit with lots of space. The food was okay. That's just it. I had a Cuban sandwich, with Pulled-Pork, Swiss cheese and pickles. I added some of the delicious mustard-based sauce. It was good, but not the best I've had. Looked like they scraped the bottom of the pan, because it had a lot of black edges of pork in the sandwich. $35.00 for two sandwiches, an appetizer, a soup, and no alcohol is steep for mediocre food. I'll pass.

Great smoked wings and bbq. Waitress was great also, I believe her name was Cassie...but I could be wrong

Stopped in about 1pm today and the front was kinda busy but no one seemed to be around for a while. There was two other parties ahead of us. Finally got seated, table was a Lil dirty but the waitress noticed and took care of that. I ordered the smokehouse burger lunch special and 4 smoked wings. The burger and wings are awesome. Really tasty. The waiter was nice. Why the three stars, lunch service is slower especially during lunch hour. Other than that it was good. Had to wait 15-20 mins for food. Priced reasonably well. Would visit again.

I really needed a good meal to warm my soul yesterday but I didn't want anything too heavy. My lack of experience with this restaurant is going to rate it a 3 but if I return I will order a bbq meal for fair judgement. There were only 4 of us at the bar so the service was quick, polite, and personally engaging. I did not have to wait long for my burger and the sweet potato fries were thinly cut (not overbearing in size) and seasoned with kosher salt. My burger was juicy, the sweet sauce with the bacon and avocado gave it a nice tange. Adding the lettuce and tomatoes added to the freshness, juicy - Ness and the crunch in every bite. I highly recommend this burger to fellow burger lovers. I do suggest that like in New Jersey, the Sweet potato fries are served with a small portion of Vermont Maple Syrup for dipping. I'm GOING back, MY mind, body, AND Soul Were pleased.

I like it here. Smokey bones seems to be a good place to go when you want a step up from Applebees. I like that this restaurant has upgraded to the table side service where you can pay for your meal at the table without having to wait for your waiter/waitress to return with your card. The food hasn't been a disappointed. I'm a big fan of the Smokehouse chicken and their BBQ baked beans. The bar has a fair selection and provides several TV screens so you aren't missing a beat regardless where you sit. I give it a thumbs up.

Nice place, I had a salad it was decent. Looked like a decent place. Fried pickles were decent, not great but it was only the 2nd time I'd had them. I like fried pickles. Never heard of or tried before!

Smoky bones was a good restaurant I had a great dinner and time there. What really made it the best was when I left my Oakley sunglasses there I came in the next morning and none of their employees took them and they had them at the front desk. Smoky bones I give you 10 out of 10 stars

One of the best BBQ restaurants I've been too! The service was great! Our server was awesome too, she brought everything out in a timely Manner! We started with the deep fried pickles, smoked chicken wings and, onion rings! It was all yummy except the onion rings but I'm not much of an onion ring person! Then for the main course,I had the Mac n cheese, BBQ ribs with the brown sugar rub, brisket and mash potatoes with brown gravy! I also tried my hubby's cooked apple slices in some kind of sauce (I can't remember the right name for it) and it was so delicious! Over all the food, place and, waitress was awesome! Will deff be coming back soon!

Service is always good with not much wait time! Pork ribs are tender but they choices of bar b que sauces are strange!! I would suggest not to put any but the one that comes on already! Macaroni taste great and the beans have a great taste!! Brisket is super tender! Get there at 4 it's when it comes out super moist!!

I do understand when people tell me they don't like Smokey Bones because it's too generic. However, sometimes you just want a place with good, consistent food and no surprises. This is my spot. They've got five sauces on the table in very dirty bottles, service is generally prompt, and the menu has enough choices to give you flexibility but not so many you start to panic. Some of the phrases on the wall are clever and others make you wonder if the founder was a sexist bigot. None of that matters when you grab your burger or take a bite of pulled pork. Just enjoy the flavor, wash your hands, and you'll pay a reasonable price after it all.

After looking at some of the review on yelp I decided to give it a try. Sat at the bar and got some beer with the turkey sandwich and to my expectation, they are OK. First of all price-Average, Food-Average not the best I had. They would do better but I can say their bar are pretty comfortable. Still places for improvement. Will give them another try maybe in a few month.

I'm surprised by the number of 2 star reviews, as I have been here several times and have yet to be disappointed. Sure it's a chain restaurant, but if you're looking for authentic barbecue then you're better off going to Moose's. If you're looking for a great atmosphere with good food and drinks, this is your place. Get the smoked wings, they're to die for!

Our time there was the best! The music and food was wonderful (some barbeque with actual flavor!), but what really blew us away was a server named Rachel. She rocked at her job, while giving us a lot to talk about and really did make our night. I hope you see this on here, cause you rock!

This place had pretty much lost me after having a pretty mediocre turkey burger a few months ago but having just received a coupon I decided to give it another try. Our experience this time was much better and I think I finally realized that you don't come here for a simple burger but rather for the smoked wings and BBQ. The combo deal is definitely the best deal. With two meat choices and two side choices it's a lot of good for the money. The sliced turkey and smoked wings were my choice and I was extremely pleased! Both by flavor and portion size! Definitely left enough for seconds the next day. The service this time was also very good! And service is after all one of the main reasons we go back to an establishment. Our server "D" was great. He was very friendly, quick to serve us, checked in on us often, delivered our food quickly, and overall made our experience very pleasurable. I think they actually won me back over.

Doesn't appear to be a mom & pop BBQ joint. Service was excellent food was good. I ordered sample rib plater with 1/3 baby back sweet ribs and 1/3 Memphis dry rub ribs. Both were good enough for me to serve at my home. I wouldn't mind taking my friends here.

Pretty dang good BBQ and it's close to home, which is nice. I've had the smoked wings, mac and cheese, fries, baked beans, mashed potatoes and gravy, and that burger with the pulled pork and onion rings on it (the name is currently escaping me). They were all excellent for the price. It's family friendly and seems to be a good place to watch sports (there are a ton of TVs over the bar area).

1 hr wait for BBQ? Super soggy, gummy breadsticks. Travesty perpetrated on pork tenderloin, grilled until tough, some pieces inedible. Cold beans. Tough brisket, 1/2 of which was a blob of fat. Top it off with a waitress who calls people twice her age "baby". Those are the reasons a restaurant gets 2 stars, and why we will never eat there again.

Honestly well done does not mean mid rare, and it's a hamburger so super easy to temp. Service staff I'll prepared to deal with large crowds, and the simplest of issues! My steak with garlic sauce had little flavor, but cook correctly. Baked potatoes were only half cooked, sad really. Beer was honestly good, props to bartender. EVERY table around us had issues with food, felt bad for FOH when BOH could not cook anything correctly. We will not repeat this high priced meal again, Texas Roadhouse is better priced and well done means well done on my husbands burger!

Around 5 pm I sat myself at the nearly vacant bar for dinner. Restaurant was not busy at all even though there was a flood of waitstaff. I asked the bartender if the station for the tv in front if me could be changed to golf. She asked the manager; they had a discussion and nothing else happened. I was content watching the end of the World Cup match but was not happy with the lack of acknowledgement. The manager was way to busy playing with a wait staff that clearly didn't have enough to do. Meal was ok. Draft beer grossly overpriced. Too many BBQ places that are accommodating. They'd better be careful.

  • Lee L.

I will never go back here again. The food is nothing great and it is way overpriced for what you get. I got the pulled pork and the serving size I got was smaller than the size of a baseball and I paid over $10 for it. I ordered the bread stick like appetizer for $7.99 and all I got were 4 small sticks of dough. Service was ok but nothing to write home about. If you want great BBQ and other delicious food for a much better price and food serving then go to Jim n Nicks in North Charleston! I love that place and eat there often!

Great and Nice Experience at 7250 Rivers Avenue, North Charleston, SC 29406 843 572 3420. My colleague Don Wagner and myself visited on 03/29/2013 around 19:45 PM Eastern. Chris who served did a fantastic job. Transaction id # 30114 he ordered Pretzel Bones- he felt it was really tasty I ordered NACHOS- it was fantastic and my colleague really loved he said this is a great taste Nachos- much better than lot of mexican restaurants-Really fantastic and tasty. Tia Milligan - hourly manager she came and helps out -she travels extra mile to resolve any issues or checks on it. She really cares for the customer. I did not get the girl who served who was a blonde girl -i forgot her name-she was really helpful and cheerful way to go

I was reading Matt's review of Smokey Bones and then I realized I hadn't reviewed it. My review goes along with what he said. There's a handful of much better que places to eat at around here, so this would be my last choice. It's not that their food is bad or that it's overly priced, just that there is much better places to go, ie Music Man's BBQ up in Moncks Corner. For some reason though, my grandparents love this place. They have been in Charleston for more than 45 years and know all the great bbq places here, but for some reason they keep going back.

Yeah there is just no other way to put it. This place was really good. My wife suggested coming here because she wanted ribs. I had the chicken wings with chipotle sauce and fried pickles. They were delish! Our waiter was very courteous and knowledgeable of the menu. The décor was nice and the bathrooms were clean. I tried but I could not find anything worth mentioning in a negative sense about this place. I will be back to try other things on the menu.

i would give 2.5 ,stars overall. I went to this restaurant by myself and the atmosphere was fine for me. It was way bigger inside than I expected and not very crowded at 5:30 on a Thursday night. I was seated in a booth immediately and the waitress came over and took my drink order. I ordered a water and a blended mudslide. I am not a ribs kind of girl but I am a burger girl and that is what I planned to have because of the price under 10.00 compared to the salmon which was 15, and I'm on a budget just having moved across country and not getting my first paycheck for three weeks. i do have to say the menu looked pretty extensive, so not sure about the quality of the rest of the food. Anyway, when waitstaff decides to take your order by memory.... you are not impressing me more by not writing it down, you are making me uneasy because I change a lot. For example I chose the "classic burger" which came I believe as just a burger with lettuce, tomato, onion, and something else that I don't get on it and that you could add cheese or bacon to. So I ordered the classic burger with cheddar cheese, but no toppings except for tomato plus could I please add avocado? Thank you. cooked medium please. No fries, I would prefer mashed potatoes as my side, with gravy. (she allowed me to choose from the "sides" list). She was nice. She apologized that the mudslide was not ready yet as the girl was in training and there had been a mixup with the drink... My mudslide came and looked scrumptious topped with whip cream. Well I sucked that thing down like it was a milkshake, so I am pretty sure the girl was in training and she forgot to put any alcohol in it all together. That, or I have become an alcoholic and immune to alcohol. So my dinner was not brought out by my waitress who took the order, which I have found is happening more and more when I go out. Well it looked good until I saw the top of the bun layered in lettuce. Since that's the only thing that was wrong, I could easily dump it off, I didn't say anything. However, there was no tomato! I got up to wash my hands cause I am a bit of a germaphobe, and saw my waitress on the way and asked for a tomato. The tomato was brought by yet a different guy. and let me ask you Smokey BONES where do you get your tomatoes?? that thing was bright red and yummy. I find good veggies/fruit hard to find in the south... so i tasted the mashed potatoes first and they were good. Then i got rid of the lettuce, added my tomato, cut my burger in half and bit in. It was way rarer than medium first of all... and usually I wouldn't mind that, but it just didn't have a very good taste at all. I hate about half of the half of the burger. I finished my potatoes, but it was a very small portion. Needless to say I was disappointed in the burger, as I definitely know my burgers. I probably wouldn't go back as this is in North Charleston and I will be living on James Island, and there are probably many places that I will find that I like better.

love this spot. i've been in SC for over 6 monthhs now and i dont know if i have made it a week without going here at least once. My friends and i have yet to find something on the menu we didnt find delicious! my favorite thing is the west coast club, i also have them add smokehouse burger toppings. if you order it tell them Erik told you to get it and i promise you will not be disappointed. with outstanding pitcher prices ($6) and sailor jerry's for only $3 plus amazing food, how can you go somewhere else? my suggestion is go here, get what i get drink what i drink and be happy.

Well, this place was so-so. Not too impressed I guess. The food wasn't bad, but didn't blow me away either. Apparently the Doughnuts there are the best thing and to me that's sad when it comes to BBQ. I ordered a burger which was really big and tasted great, however the sides were lacking. I ordered fries, and let me just say that portion wise, I could get more in a Happy Meal. Not the worst BBQ I've ever hand but definitely not close to the best either.

This 2 star rating might eke up to a 3, but I'm comparing it to the rest of Que joints in the Charleston metro, rather than against restaurants in general. I've eaten here twice - once w/ the wife, and once for business. Smokey Bones is part of the Darden Chain of restaurants. They do a pretty good job with bringing different cuisine with predictability to most of America via Bahama Breeze, Olive Garden, and Red Lobster but if you've ever dabbled in non-chain joints, you know it's a substantially pared-down experience of whatever style of chow you're trying. South Carolina is Que country. I wouldn't go to the Florida Keys or even Charleston and order seafood at a Red Lobster. No way could a chain beat 100 year old family recipes. And it didn't, though the first time with the wife was still quite pleasant. We had a rib sampler and they were very good. Sides were prepared well, pulled pork was decent, and it was an overall good experience. The second trip to Smokey Bones came a couple years later. Blech... I had a cajun-seasoned steak and it was awful. Was more mid-well than mid-rare, had 2 pounds of salt on it and had very poor texture - not a good cut of meat. After tasting it, I surmised a recook wouldn't save this so I just got it down and got out of there. The sides were bland and reminded me of cafeteria food. The pleasant interior was now truly "smokey" but I wasn't that excited because it was coming from cigarettes, not a wood-fired smoker. I'm not a cigarette nazi - shoot, I used to smoke a pack a day for about 10 years but this was pool-hall-on-the-movies-smoky. The service was pleasant but nowhere near as good. They did have a full bar which is rare for a que joint in Charleston, but they didn't have any beers w/ flavor (now that I'm not a total alcoholic, I've become a bit of a beer snob but trying to get better). For the same price on this side of town you could get a 10x better steak at Farringdons, or 4x better at even the ol Outback down the road. There are so many other que restaurants in the area, I'm doing you a favor by saying to make this one of the absolute last stops on your list.
