I absolutely love this place. The food is amazing, and I love all the options and varieties. The specials are a great way to branch out and try something new. They aren't just burgers the shakes are great too.

My review is specific to THIS location. The one in Park Circle is waaaay better. This is amazing for "mall food." But they SUCK at service. We've been here several times, at various times throughout the day (close to work), and they are consistently slooow. And the food just isn't as carefully put together as it is at the PC location. Its also very sticky...everywhere. Seriously. Anyway, it's a mall. It's better than Subway. So whatevs...

Loved that tip you left for Sesame Burgers & Beer! "Great food! Had the sweet potato french fries w/ blue cheese as an appetizer and its was amazing! Great combination of salty and sweet. For the main course I had a salad with sesame grilled tuna on it (a special item), this salad was delicious!! The really cool thing about this place is you can tweek your dish with extra toppings. This goes for the salads, sandwiches and burgers. What's better then customizing your meal.... Aaah nothing :)"

In 2014 the last thing you would expect is to find a decent place to eat in a mall, but Sesame Burgers is quite a find...gourmet burgers at the mall. We went in for lunch on a Monday afternoon. For the most part the menu is setup in such a way that you pick the style of burger you want (they have about 15 different options from napa valley with fig and bacon jam to southwestern with guac) and then you pick the meat (beef, turkey, chicken breast, black bean). There is also the option to completely customize your own burger. The menu is very versitile even offering a burger in a bowl for those avoiding crabs, it would be hard for someone not to find an option they liked. With so many choices they even offer a 3 slider platter in which you can get three different mini burger if you can't make up your mind. This particular visit I ordered the mediterranean which with cucumbers, olives, feta, greens. I got it with chicken but I think I would go with turkey next time (how do I always forget that I don't like chicken?) but the burger was delicious the bun was fresh and they certainly did not skimp on the toppings. All the sauces here are house made and I highly recommend the mustard sauce, I don't really like ketchup so having another fry dipping option is welcomed. It tastes great on the steak fries and is a great mix of sweet honey and spicier mustard grain. Each burger comes with pickle chips on the side which are also house made. They are sweet pickles and I much prefer dill so I won't rave about them, but as sweet pickles go, they are some of the best that I have had. Others in my party raved about the sweet potato fries. The guys in the group really liked the beer selection here and they also have liquor drinks. Service was fast and friendly. This is a great lunch spot, but they also have happy hour specials and a patio so I'm sure that would be a great time to check it out as well.

For a lower priced restaurant, this place is good. I really like that they have black bean burgers! They are big and juicy and I like all the random toppings you can put on them! The fried pickles are really good and they come with a really creamy ranch dressing. They also have really good milkshakes! Its hard to find places that have meatless burgers for cheap (starting at $4.00) so that's the main reason why its 4 stars!

Toppings are imaginative and fresh. Service is very friendly. Burger cooked medium was not juicy at all. They must press the burgers with a spatula. Five Guys are better burgers. Also, it didn't seem like they had completed their side work before they opened.

It's true! Sesame Burger has the best burgers in Charleston! After reading the Yelp reviews, I decided to give them a try. I was overwhelmed by the quality of beef and the variety of toppings. Peanut butter? Yes, peanut butter! Even better, the vegan and poultry options, aim to please everyone. The ladies next to me ordered salads that looked garden fresh! One of the ladies, visiting from Idaho, made sure to put Sesame on her list of "must stops. In addition to an absolutely scrumptious burger, the service was outstanding! I had the pleasure of sitting at the back bar, perched feet away from the busy kitchen. Unknowingly, I struck up a conversation with the manager (Jonathon?) He was so welcoming and gave me the complete Sesame Burger story! This place is truly Five Stars!

Great food, craft beer, and tons of customizable burger options! It's a little hard to find; we drove around a while before we realized it was in the Citadel Mall (between JC Penny's and Target), but once we found the place it was just what we were looking for. Both of us were slightly overwhelmed by all of the options, so we ended up each choosing something of their Specialties list. I had the Mediterranean black bean burger and my boyfriend got the buffalo chicken wrap. Although mine was not the best veggie burger I've ever had (that trophy is held by the untouchable Ivy Tavern in Providence, RI), this was an extremely close second. Delicious! And I'm a meat-lover too, so that's saying something. Large portions, great prices. Were we not just passing through the area, we would definitely be back!

Neat spot to grab an actual meal in the middle of a mall-who knew?! I got a blue cheese turkey burger with sautéed onions plus the sweet potato fries. Missus got a burger with fig and some other stuff on it. I tried it and it was pretty amazing. Make sure you and the server are clear on what temperature and pinkness you prefer. Our server said their range is a bit different because of how they grind their meat or somesuch. Anyway, that burger was awesome. Mine was also tasty, though a bit over seasoned. Split the full sized house salad, which was pretty large, but had a great citrus vinaigrette that made it go pretty fast. Loved the beer selection--they had my Abita Purple Haze, so I knew it was gonna be a good spot. Service was stellar--they really go out of their way to make sure you're happy. Bradford, who I think has to be a manager there, checked in on us on occasion, and, after we asked, suggested some neat places to visit while we were in town. Really a good vibe here, which definitely doesn't fit the blergh mall atmosphere surrounding it.

The food here is so good but the service is oftentimes pretty lousy. Such a shame because I really do like Sesame, just not this particular location. The Park Circle location is a better overall experience. Maybe because this one is in the mall? No idea. If you stop here, expect a great meal and hope you get a decent waiter/waitress.

Food was delicious. The general manager was really awesome. But the bartender seemed. Like she didn't like anyone who is sitting at her bar. Not sure if it was just a weird night. But she was very unpleasant.

I went to Sesame for the first time tonight because I read online that they had $3 burger night. I love a good deal, so I was sold like you sell your old mother at an auction. I always thought this place was in North Charleston, and going there would be certain death, but I was excited to learn there was indeed a Citadel Mall location. So instead of certain death, it was only likely death, but unfortunately, I survived my meal unscathed. More on Citadel Mall. Man, this place was dead! I haven't seen this much sad in once area since the last time I was at my school's library! All of the places I used to go to as a boy were gone, and the only thing that remained were clothing stores for poors who don't know how to dress and jewelers that are begging to be robbed at gunpoint. Enough of Citadel Mall. Let's get to Sesame. The wait for over an hour! An hour! There were more people here than the entire mall at-large. The server came out to inform me that it was $3 burger night, but that only included burger and lettuce and bun. This was a disappointment, and warning, this is how they get you. Most idiots end up spending more on burgers during $3 burger night than on normal nights. But not me! I designed my own burger specifically to be cheaper than their "speciality burgers," all for $5.50! And you can too with a handy calculator! I ordered fries with it, but they turned out to be from a bag, and their "house made ketchup" tasted like old tomato sauce I had left in my car for few weeks. Sesame gets 4 stars mainly because they have PBR tall boys, and my entire bill was $10, which is an excellent price to pay for the runny, explosive quality bowel movement I will have in the morning. But watch your wallet, $3 burger night their excuse to run up your tab before you know it!

Delicious burgers and the steak fries were perfect. There are so many burger toppings to choose from and they have Udi's buns. We also had the corn on the cob appetizer, which was also delicious. Great wait staff as well. We will be back.

I read about this place in a local paper, and it sounded like a hip, up and coming, bistro style restaurant. The place boasts the best burgers and onion rings in Charleston. The pictures of the place and food sparked my interest. I took my wife here on a Thursday night, and the parking lot was packed. Initially, I was thrilled! As I walked in, I began to realize this place was nothing but a popular bar. The floors and tables were filthy, and the link lighting was dark, not the intimate kind, but the scummy kind of dark. The hostess was pleasant and smiled as she welcomed us in, so we decided to stay. We were sat at a small table in a cramped corner near electrical and fuse boxes. That table should have never been put there. The bar was loud and packed, but the service was good. The guacamole appetizer was decent, but the chips were cold. They had a great selection of beer. I ordered the onion rings and a black bean burger. The onion rings were nothing but a thin piece of rubbery onion deep friend, and grotesquely covered in oil. They were pretty disgusting. The black bean burger was better, but not memorable. The desert was a warm browny covered in ice cream and chocolate syrup. I'm fairly certain the browny wasn't fresh baked, but it was the best part of the whole meal. Everything was about 44 bucks. Not a bad price..but not very tasty food either.. I won't be eating here again for a sit down dinner...maybe I'll stop by for a drink next time...

Stop looking for the best hamburger in the World....it's right here. I am a burger aficionado and have been around the world having burgers....In&Out, Five Guys, etc. and you aren't going to find another place where the burger tastes like steak I kid you not! The bun is soft and tasty and warm like fresh rolls and tender. The onion rings are beer battered and are soooo good. My wife had the Patty Melt and it was to die for....the whole menu is a freakin masterpiece of amazing taste...how do they do it? Every sauce is home made....I had the Hawaiian and it was better than any burger I've ever had and there were more items to put on the burger but I didn't add any toppings...don't need to.

We went around 10:30pm on a Saturday night....shortly before they closed. Service was still great, and the food was tasty! I had a grilled chicken sandwich that was wonderfully seasoned. I opted for the onion rings due to the server's recommendation, and really enjoyed them! I love that the chicken is hormone-free. My husband had a burger that he said was AWESOME! Cooked, seasoned, and topped to perfection. He had the sweet potato fries, and while he enjoyed them, I think he wished he would've gotten the steak fries. He loved that the burger was ground that day, and that they made their own ketchup and mustard in-house. We loved that there were lots of tvs around so that we could watch football. We definitely want to return for trivia (Saturday nights) and $3 burger night (Tuesdays)! If you go, ask for Ali as your server...she's great!

Dedicated fryer, gluten free buns for the burgers, staff that knows what you mean when you say gluten free- as in "celiac not that fashionable hollywood diet " and $3 mimosas on Saturdays....

The food here is very tasty and all dressings are homemade, ketchup, mayo, and mustard. I love the sides selection the potato salad is delicious. I also love the draft craft beer selection. I guess my only complaint would be the service, the 2 times I've been here the service was bad. I over heard another server tell her table the daily specials and our server already took our order. I would have loved to try the fish special that was talked about. Actually I don't really remember our server smiling or even saying thanks.. Hmm.. Still gave a great tip and wouldn't mind coming again.

I'm so happy that I tried this place out! The menu offers the holy grail of toppings for burgers! You have your choice of organic gluten free black bean, organic- hormone free-vegetarian beef, chicken or turkey. I ordered the gourmet beef burger (goat cheese spread and Portobello ) +basil mayo +caramelized onions. Side order of steak fries. Okay..this burger is huge and and good portion of fries which you'll probably be full from the burger to finish but the seasoning on them are fantastic! Dont forget to ask for their house ketchup, its nothing I've ever had before and loved it! They lay a few slices of their homemade pickles which are perfectly zesty and sweet. Now the best part..make sure you have napkins..this burger is so juicy and just drips with flavor, I'm lost for words on how to describe the amazingness that my tastebuds were experiencing. Also I ordered my daughter the frank which by the way is gigantic and you can add any type of topping you please. Good stuff. Heads up for the parents..im not going to say its not child friendly but its more a casual date environment and I was feeling a little awkward with my toddler but its cool still, they were very accommadable to make it comfortable for us. Seriously check this place out I could eat here every day and never get tired of it. By far the perfect burger I've ever had.

Some of the best burgers in the city. We love going to Sesame and sharing a side with an appetizer and some burgers. My go-to is the sliders. You get three mini-burgers of your choosing (because I can't choose between all of their delicious options). Menu Highlights: - Duck Wings (they serve this as a special appetizer sometimes. When it's there, you MUST get) - Park Circle Burger - California Reuben - Bison burger (also a special item) They have some gourmet, made-in-house ketchup that I'm not a huge fan of, but others seem to love it. Might be an acquired taste :) It's a bit crowded during peak times (weekends around dinner time), but it's to be expected. They don't accept reservations, so come prepare to wait if you're eating during a hopping time. They also have a great trivia night!

Ummm it's okay. I know everyone loves it but I just am always disappointed. The buffalo chicken wrap is subpar and all the sides are what I would describe as below average. We've literally tried just about every single one and almost all the appetizers and there are none we would order again. The calamari was inedible and the onion rings were so so so bland...the balsamic blue sweet potato fries are okay though. I REALLY appreciate that the burgers are grass fed and that there are so many options, but I absolutely hate the presentation of the burger over greens. I hate it so much. It's like a giant aluminum mixing bowl...totally bizarre to me. Anyway, I appreciate what they are trying to do and everyone is pretty nice there so I don't want to be too much of a hater but I'm just not into the food. Beer selection and drink menu are both great though.

The California Reuben is a combination of perfectly toasted rye bread, fresh sliced turkey (not deli cuts), coleslaw and cheese. This sandwich just changed my life. The steak fries were perfectly seasoned and cooked. I was so happy with food, the cocktail faded into the background...no offense to the wonderful mixologist. This was a great alternative to a burger!!!

Just left this location. Basically felt like we were inconveniencing the staff from the moment we got there at 8pm. The bartender, short haired girl was rushing us to order and was annoyed when we ordered another round of drinks. The long blonde haired girl who was cleaning might want to lower her voice when talking about customers in ear reach. I get it, you were close to closing and want to go home, but the attitude and pointing at us from across the room is unnecessary. Also, very unprofessional to have half of the staff just sitting outside talking while there are still customers in the dining area. Thankfully the food was delicious. I had the turkey burger with pepper jack cheese and fries. Awesome food, terrible service. Won't be back.

I would give this place 5 stars but sadly they have changed the fried pickles. I mean, those fried pickles are ones to dream about. But unfortunately they have changed up the menu and it's just not the same. And I am depressed...but the burgers! They are still the bomb!

Seriously, I LOVE Sesame Burgers & Beer.....well at least the burgers and the nacho's. I was at the North Charleston location last year and was craving a burger and wanted to go to Sesame and saw this location. Pulled pork nachos = amazing, do yourself a favor and get them. Memphis burger = unbelievable. it shouldn't be nearly as good as it actually is. One of my favorite burgers anywhere in the country. Service = Was great! I asked the server if she could have the Nascar race turned on, and it was on just a minute or so later. She was very good with refills and making sure we didn't wait long for anything. Can't wait to come back!

I'm giving this place a 5* review and I haven't even eaten a burger here. Half of the credit goes to an awesome bartender named Caitlin! A day prior to arriving in Charleston, someone told me I should try Sesame Burger when I was in town. When I first got to town I had to run an errand at Target, and then had an hour to kill before my friend Tim from Belgian arrived. When I found out there was a Sesame Burger in the mall and they had all day $4 bloody marys on Saturdays, my choice was made. I told Caitlin to not hold back on spicyness, and she made a second round of spices for my drink. It was a pretty killer drink, especially for $4. She promised me she's make her own personal mix for me next Saturday, and I plan to take her up on it. I didn't try a burger as I figured my buddy would be hungry, but I did grab a side order of onion rings after seeing their menu brag about them being the best in town. I'm reaaaaally picky on onion rings and I have to agree with them. They might have been the best onion rings I've had. I cannot WAIT until Tuesday to try their $3 burger!

Conveniently located at Citadel Mall with an exterior location that is accessible even after the rest of the mall closes, their hamburgers and side dishes are really delicious. Their hambugers are especially thick and layered with far more generous amounts of ingredients than are offered by many other local restaurants. I also recommend their chocolate chip cookies which are about 10" across and are a fantastic value.

  • Kristi T.

California Reuben is always my back up when none of the daily specials appeal to me. Sliders are also great, for those that can't make a decision on their full menu. The ranch and ketchup, both house made, are great. The steak fries are seasoned perfectly and great dipped in ranch. Service- great, beer selection- great, seats were all full!

Overall the experience was average. The teriyaki wings (ordered as an appetizer) were pretty good, but came out only 2 minutes before the main meal. The burger itself was fairly bland, but the toppings were decent. Fries were good as well. Asked for a to-go milkshake and was given a plastic cup filled with milkshake, with about half a cups worth more in the metal shaker. It then took about 15 more minutes after the shake came out to even be able to ask for a check. Not terrible. Not great.

Love the burgers here. One of my favorite places. Great beers on tap, and $3 burger night on Tuesdays is a great deal. I love the Napa Valley, The Gourmet, and the Memphis, the Southwestern, and the South Carolina (add bacon). Their fries are really good, but I'm not crazy about the house made ketchup. Highly recommend stopping here if you're in West Ashley!

My wife and I love to come here. It is our favorite place to go and it's close to home too. Location: Near the entrance of Citadel Mall, not bad to walk around the mall when there is a wait and parking is never a problem. Outdoor seating too. Atmosphere: Really cool interior, the kitchen/grill is out in the open, so you can see the guys cooking. Plenty of TVs too. Getting a table on Tuesdays (half priced burgers) is a little tricky. Also, the team trivia on Saturday night is great, lots of laughs too. Bar: Plenty of beers on hand and some pretty cool drink combinations make it hard not to find that special beer. Service: Really good, personable servers that are really helpful especially when someone has never eaten there before. Have a handful of servers that remember us and the manager knows us and always puts a order of onion rings in for us. Food: Alright, the good stuff. Big menu with salads, sliders, burgers (beef, chicken, black bean, turkey), sandwiches, etc. Also have a list of milk shakes and adult milk shakes (huge portions). Two appetizers that stand out to me are the fried pickles and the onion rings. Best ranch i've had and the dipping sauce for the onion rings is half bbq sauce half ranch, killer good. The batter on the fried pickles has a little kick. Chicken burgers are moist and delicious. But for me it has to be the build your own burger. I love the beef burger. The ingredients are fresh too, along with the housemade ketchup and mustard. Gotta try the basil mayo too. Steak fries and sweet potato fries are the best. Warning on the jalapenos, they do pack a punch. Overall, a great place to come for a good time and great food.

Probably the worst experiences at any restaurant in Charleston. I say "experiences" plural bc I've given this place way too many chances (six to be exact and ONLY more than two bc my best friend loves a particular salad or grilled cheese they have and we work close by). I will never. Ever. EVER. Again. Every single time we've gone, we were subjected to lengthy waits at varying points. This time, we'll talk about the 44 minute wait for our food (a chicken sandwich and a grilled cheese w fries). Forty-four. It took us 10 minutes to get our water and she didn't even ask us if we were ready to order (we knew what we wanted when we sat down) when she brought the waters. Just set them down, asked us if we wanted the straws and walked off. I was on the verge of walking out after 35 minutes. When we finally got our food, we had to request our checks right then since our lunch is only an hour. (I would also like to add that we purposely arrived at 1130 before the rush-there were 4 other tables-to avoid this same issue that we've had several times before.) All in all the food is nothing to write home about (although my friend may beg to differ on her two go-tos). I've never been impressed. I struggled giving Sesame even one star. And I guarantee that today will be the last time I have to endure such terrible service there.

Great burgers though I'm not convinced they know medium or medium well to good so that's why I give them a 4 I usually order medium because it comes out medium well works every time

I love too get their sliders and mix and match from all their inventive burger options. Good Sweet potato fries too! The beer selection is good and they make some mean alcoholic milkshakes! Fun place for trivia too!

My husband and I ate here for dinner tonight. I ordered a chicken sandwich with caramelized onions, and he ordered a fried shrimp po' boy. We also ordered a side of onion rings and a side of potato salad. The food was enjoyable, but the service was very slow. Also, the onion rings were not hot, and I felt like they should have been served with a dipping sauce. Furthermore, the potato salad was too creamy for me. Overall, it was a decent meal, but I don't think we will return.

  • Matt W.

Overpriced. We got the sliders (6 total burgs) and didnt like any of them: overcooked beef, hardly any sauce so they were dry and the buns were the cheap dinner rolls from Food Lion. Hardly fresh. The beer was $6 for draft and the bud bottle for $3.50! The sweet potato fries and onion rings were good enough but for $3 you get like 5 onion rings. The ranch was good. The homemade mustard was good. The homemade ketchup was OK. I would not come back, except for the decent beer selection (but of course to get a buzz would cost $50)!

  • Lindsay S.

Yes. So good! I had the Down South burger which had cheddar cheese and caramelized onions. My fiance had their patty melt which looked amazing. We split an order of fries, which are more like steak fries. Very potatoe-y. My only complaint is their ketchup--the one they keep in that generic red squeeze bottle. It must be their own housemade ketchup, because it looks quite grainy. It was more like a marinara sauce with the way that it was seasoned. I would definitely ask for bottled ketchup in the future.

Love this place. Your burger your way and cooked to your temperature. In house condiments are the key! Friendly and fast service. By far the best of the chains is in Citadel Mall - who would have thought?! Tuesday is special burger prices so you can get a fantastic burger and fries for the price of a drive through. Basil mayo on the side makes a great fry dip!

Always one of my favorite places to go from time to time. Sat at the bar this time and they ran out of my beer which was no biggie. Food was fantastic and the service was attentive. Just prefer some more personality and conversation from bar tenders but I wouldn't let that detract from this place..just a slow day.

We just got into town and were looking for something low key and tasty. This pretty much fit the bill. My first issue was that it was at the mall - we couldn't find it because there were no addresses! Anyway, that's more of a google issue than the restaurant itself, but it being at the mall can definitely let you know that it's low key. The menu is ample, however we were not greeted at the door and when we sat down our waitress informed us that, "the specials are on a board behind you." It would be nice if they told you them, since we couldn't see the board, but we let it slide. It's a burger joint after all. We started with the onion rings, which were tasty. They come with a "homemade BBQ ranch" which was nothing special. I also had some of the homemade ketchup and it was good. I got the sliders in gourmet (goat cheese and portobellos), down south (cheese, onions, bacon) and southwestern (guacamole and chipotle sour cream). My favorite was the gourmet. My least favorite was the down south. My boyfriend got the full size down south burger and he said he wished it was juicer. Also he felt it was missing something to brighten it up. Overall it was enjoyable, we've had better burgers, but we have had worse burgers too!

Seeing as how Sesame is owned by the same people who run Five Loaves, I was pretty excited to eat here, & it has definitely become a regular spot when hunger strikes in West Ashley. Don't let the fact that it's connected to a mall fool you! Sesame offers up some delicious food! While you can order just about any kind of burger here, I'd avoid the black bean because it's a little too mushy. That being said, their burgers are amazing given the fact that you can add any topping that you can imagine. If you're looking for something a little healthier, I'd highly recommend the calamari salad. The ginger dressing gives it a sweet kick that makes it out of this world! If you're a beer enthusiast, you're in luck because the bartender is highly skilled in offering tasty suggestions to pair with your meal. I've tried some brews that I would have missed out on otherwise thanks to their guidance.

$3 burger is a little deceptive. Does not include any toppings or any side. Be careful or you will pay almost full price. And no happy hour prices. But 16 ounce pbr for 2.25 a good surprise. We figured out the deal but took a little cyphering. I had the burger with chili and the chili was worth the extra 90 cents. Good burger! And the PBR in a can was awesome when we saw the size of the can. So with that still felt like Happy Hour. We got the Calamari and they were ok. Too salty. Not great sauce either. We were lucky enough to get a seat at the bar when the place was totally full for deal night. Bartender was decent but won't say she was very good at explaining the deal. I will just say I think if I had not gotten the calamari and a little peppier Bartender and it may have been a 4 star night. Pretty good. And who orders calamari at a burger joint. My Bad. Live and learn. Next time I go I will not get that and update the review if they we have a better experience.

We have been here quite a few times. The food has been consistently tasty and the service has been 50/50. However on Saturday we were served lunch by Scott. He was friendly, stopped in to check on us regularly, and held on to my leftovers for me while we went to see a movie. Nobody has ever done that for us before. I hope the other servers take notes from Scott! The visit before last we were seated at a table and the girl let us sit there for at least 10 minutes before coming over to say bluntly "What do you want to drink?" Nothing to indicate she was happy to be there or was glad we were there. Then she was seemingly replaced as our server by a really nice guy who pushed our table together with a neighboring one when ours became obscured by food. I wish I remember who that was. Both of our good experiences at Sesame involved male severs though. Let that be known. We will be back and hopefully we will get seated at one of Scott's tables again!

My favorite place to eat in Charleston! These burgers are so fresh and the menu should appeal to the normal burger lover or those looking for a creative twist. You can clearly taste the freshness in everything they serve. The beer list is awesome with so many great selections. The venue is welcoming and the staff are all fun to chat with. Can't wait for my next visit!

In no way did I have a good experience here. After hearing a few people recommend this place, I decided to give it a try. The place wasn't overly busy, but the service would make you believe otherwise. The service was super slow, and awkward. My girlfriend and I were completely uncomfortable with the whole experience. I ordered a burger with their house made chili on top. The chili was as awful tasting, as was the appearance. The burger was ordered medium rare, it came out so rare that the center was completely raw and cool to the touch. You could re-patty it if you tried. Of coarse a server never came back by to check, so I ate around most of the raw meat until I was grossed out. Chicken pimento cheese sandwich was awful. The cheese part was good, but that was it. The bread was un-toasted and bland, the chicken tasted like it was pre-breaded and once frozen. The fries were very good, as was the mustard on the table. When asked how everything was, long after we just gave up on everything, I let the server know. He seemed put back. I was polite and to the point. I just stated that we did not enjoy our meal, which is why everything was on the plate except the fries. On a semi positive note, the meal was completely comped without asking. We were asked to give the place another chance by our server, so it was obvious at this point that even the server knew that we were done wrong. Sorry, but there is no way in H that we are ever going back to this place.

The mall location is odd. But the food is superb. And the atmosphere is nice - families and friends fit in well. The choice of beer is great. If you have a burger that you didn't like, it's your fault. I like a couple of the standard choices they offer, but I typically build my own. The side salad is crisp and fresh. We walked in at 8:15 pm on Saturday, which is later than usual for us, and ran into the trivia contest, which started at 8:30. I could see how that contest would be quite fun, if you expected it. :-)

I accidentally stumbled across this place on my way out of the Target located next door to pick up something on my way to the airport to catch my flight, but needed a bite to eat first. What caught my curiosity was the a sign that said something like, "No Guilt Gourmet Burgers". Upon further investigation, I found that they prided themselves in using burgers with hormone free, pasture raised Angus beef. They also had a turkey, chicken, or black bean burger option. I also really liked that they appeared to partner with local suppliers for their ingredients. They also had vegan and veggie options. It was noon on a Saturday and the outdoor and indoor seating was 100% full. This is definitely a local favourite. The lady at the entrance was helpful in finding an empty seat at the bar for me. The service was quick and friendly even though they were extremely busy. My seat was right next to the window to the kitchen and I could see the orders pouring out at super speed. I loved that they had a burger in a bowl option for those of us sensitive to wheat. Awesome substitute for the usual bad lettuce wrap burger options at other places. I also really liked that the menu offered room for creativity and flexibility to build your own options. My turkey burger was cooked to perfection, and the bacon and feta I opted for with the salad was tasty. They had a cucumber vinaigrette dressing on the side that the waitress had suggested with my combination of ingredients, and it was the icing on the top of a fantastic "burger in a bowl". I ordered a side of Sweet Potato fries, as I love and can't get those back in Switzerland. I was a bit worried at first as they looked overcooked. But, they were AMAZING, especially tasty dipped in their house made ketchup. Definitely don't pass that up. Great place for people who have specific dietary needs as you have a flexible menu to plug and play with, great servers to help provide recommendations, and you don't feel like you are missing out on anything.

I consistently have a great experience at Sesame. This time I got the turkey burger sliders: The Hawaiian (grilled pineapple and ham) was really delicious. The Memphis (peanut butter, bacon, and banana slices) sounds really weird but was my favorite. The Gourmet (goat cheese and portabello) was a little bit plain but also enjoyable. As always, the sweet potato fries were yummy.

Food is always fresh and good. Love the beer selection. My husband loves the Memphis burger...I love that I can get chicken turkey or black bean burgers just about any way I want! The be Mediterranean style burgers are awesome!

Loved this place. We found it when using Yelp when we were at the outlet malls. Definitely a hole in the wall kinda joint but wow was the food good. The salads are huge and delicious and the corn on the cob was amazing. Definitely check it out

Sesame is one of our favorite spots in Charleston to get a quick bite. Order off the menu or try one of their specials, you can't go wrong. The wait can be 20-30 min sometimes, but, well worth it for the amazing burgers!

We had gone to Citadel Mall, planning to attend the Food Network Food Court Wars taping. When we were told it would be 2+ hours before our turn for service, we had to make alternate plans since we had two little ones in tow. To Sesame Burgers and Beer it was! We found a quiet booth in the corner and were greeted by the very friendly bartender, a recent transplant from Asheville, NC (though why he would leave such an up and coming craft beer scene is beyond me!). He took our drink orders and headed back to the bar. A moment later, a young server came to take our drink order as well. When realizing that we had already ordered, she made a quick joke and let us read the menu. Apparently, 3 times is a charm because a third server came to ask us for our drink order! Having done time in food & bev myself, I wasn't annoyed, but impressed with the staffs willingness and ability to work together efficiently. It was my husbands first visit, and he enjoyed it so much, he asks to go back at least once a week! Our oldest son woke up just long enough to eat his grilled cheese sandwich, find the "awesome swords" that were stuck into his sandwich...and fall back asleep. Our friend, on a paleo diet, ordered the cole slaw despite my warnings that it would have soy or corn products...it did. She's the only person I've ever seen get high off of corn.I had the Napa Valley burger and oh my goodness, is that fig and bacon jam delicious!! Looking forward to our next trip! Love that they have Young's Double Chocolate Stout behind the bar! One of my favorite stouts for many reason (not the least of which is its amazing ability to promote lactation in nursing mothers!). If you find yourself nearby a Sesame Burgers and Beers, it's worth the visit, even if there is a wait!

This restaurant is amazing for variety! It's great to have this option in this neck of the woods. The atmosphere is a little weird, only because it's in a mall. There's outside dining though, so that's a plus. Congrats to the brains of Sesame. We love what you've done, and thank you for being here!!

Even though it is in a pretty bad mall, the little restaurant itself is quite cute. The moment we entered we got in a great mood. The dining experience is great. The appetizers we tried, hush puppies and the corn were amazing. Can't suggest it enough. You can make your own burger with pretty much anything in it or order from their wide range of interesting selections. They also have gluten free buns and black bean burgers. That being said, the black bean burger I happened to had was not very good. The patty felt like it was a black bean mash. However, my sweet potato fries were spectacular. My boy friend was pretty satisfied with his burger. The key lime pie was very good too. Definitely a good dinner and movie location.

I don't know what they do but the burgers are fantastic. I believe that the Citadel Mall location is better than the one in Park Circle and they have shorter lines also.

We love going to Sesame for a number of reasons: the outdoor seating, the beer selection and the consistently good food, to name a few. If Sesame has a "go to" dish, it's probably the grilled cheese. However, that's only because it's slightly better than everything else -- not outstanding, just really good. I'm a fan of their "build your own burger" offering because they have over 70 ingredients to choose from and I like to experiment. My girlfriend usually gets either one of their specials or one of the chicken sandwiches, and she's always been happy. ... I forgot to mention one of their appetizers. Fried pickles. AMAZING. Get 'em. The homemade condiments aren't bad. The ketchup is meh, but we like the rest. The beer selection is solid. I recognize every name on the list and have had probably 80% of them, but it's still an extensive list and I like that they made the effort to offer much more than the stock standard "Bud/Miller, Yuengling, Sam Adams + 2 locals" that too many places have. They tend to get crowded, not just at the usual mealtimes but also randomly on weekends. It's in a mall, so not surprising there. Sit outside if you can, though -- it's a great place to talk, people-watch or just relax. The noise level inside is moderate, but during football season or the NCAA tournament it can get pretty loud. Neat little thing I discovered is their Wifi connection has a sort of "graffiti wall" you can write on if you connect to it. The comments are interesting, if a little sparse. The servers are decent to excellent in our experience. We usually see the same ones, which is a big plus for us. Sesame is a great little local hangout. Hope it's around for years to come.

I really was no sure if I wanted to go here for lunch. One of the best choices I made. This is a must go anytime I am in Charleston. I am not much of a fan of burgers, but the combination this place comes up with does magic in my mouth. Hands down best burgers.

Love the Calamari Pineapple Salad though I order it with just one slice of pineapple instead of the two I used to receive. If it's just Calamari you want, order the appetizer and ask for a side of the pineapple salad dressing to dip them in. Consistently yummy! Service does seem slow and re-checks overlooked. I'm happy to learn of their Mt Pleasant location because I don't make it out to Citadel Mall as often as I used to.

I wish I could write about the food but the hostess wanted us to wait rather than sitting at any of the five available tables. We used to eat here twice a month at least. But one stupid move can ruin any amount of good will.

The last time I was at Citadel Mall I wanted to seek out Sesame Burgers for lunch, but was instead directed elsewhere (which turned out to be a disappointment). Finally getting to eat here makes me even more upset that I already missed that one opportunity to do so. We (coworkers and I) went to Sesame for lunch on the suggestion that we try the fish tacos. And I had planned to, except that once I was seated and handed a menu, my taste buds began to wander... When the waitress came back and everyone started to place their order, I made a snap decision and tried the South Carolina burger in turkey format, with sides of sweet potato fries and Blue's corn. Daggone, this is good eats! Everything had great flavors and textures. The condiments are made in-house and that mustard was amazing. One of my coworkers asked for Heinz ketchup and the (manager?) came out giving him a hard time for it, jokingly. I then realized I had some homemade bread & butter pickles on my plate, but they were so good I ate them all by hand and didn't even get them on my burger. I was thinking of following the meal up with desert and was asking about the milkshakes when the waitress started going over the flavors and mentioned "Crunchberry". Uh... 1, please! Prices might be a little higher than you'd expect for lunch (my burger, 2 sides, tea & shake came to $18), but for the quality of food you're getting I think the prices were fair and appropriate. All of my workers loved their meals and told me to give the place 6-stars (they've just recently learned of my Yelp dependency...). Even at 2:30PM this place was still packed!

I went here while on a day trip to Charleston. It's a routine for me that when I leave town, I get to eat a burger. At first glance, this place seemed to be the promised land. They offer gourmet burgers and over 40 beers. I was hooked from the time I walked into the place. They are going for the retro warehouse look and the interior is very nice. The food here is good. On a scale of 1-5, they are a solid 3 based on the Napa Valley Burger that my friend ordered and the All American that I ordered. One note: the sweet potato fries were completely unremarkable and should be avoided. They do not live up to the hype. Now for the service: in a word, terrible. We arrived in the slow time between lunch and dinner with no more than 5 tables in the entire restaurant and by my count, there could have at least been one server per table. We had to wait for refills on drinks, we had to wait for extra condiments, we had to wait for additional utensils and we even had to wait to pay. It seemed our server was more interested in completing side work and other tasks which included talking to coworkers. We were a distant third on the priority list. Very disappointing. If you go here, I would suggest sitting at the bar and not opting for a table. This place is one of many where you can order a gourmet burger. With poor service seeming to be the true specialty of the house, I see no reason to recommend it. When I return to Charleston again next month, I will avoid this place.

Living locally, I had heard so many comments about how good this place was and was excited to try it ....but my family and I were all quite disappointed!! To begin on a positive note, we went on a Sat night and only had to wait for a table about 10 mins, which was nice. Our waitress was friendly and efficient. Then it went downhill. The lighting was very dull, could hardly see the menu. We started out with the beer battered onion rings from the appetizer list. We were really hungry and anticipating a yummy treat, but were sorely disappointed. They were bland and totally tasteless, like maybe they forgot to add salt or seasoning to the batter? Well, we held out hope for our burgers but once again were let down. We all ordered different burgers and they all had minimal flavor AND minimal toppings (you pay extra for each selected topping, but each burger comes with certain toppings). Needless to say, we all were passing the salt shaker around like crazy. NO SIDES come with the burgers, that is extra also. However, the buns were good and moist! We were all really surprised, as we love Five loaves (same owner). Sorry to say we won't be going back.

This is one of our favorite lunch places. Some of the best burgers in town, a good beer selection, and some wicked milk shakes. I don't think I've been disappointed with anything on the menu. If you see a bison burger on the specials board, don't pass it up.

The food is ok. Sorta bland in taste. The beer selection is good. Not a big fan of restaurants in malls. I prefer the staff, food and beer at the North Charleston location. Better all around.

I love eating here! The service is always pretty good and there are so many options with the burgers. I always seem to have trouble ordering. Since im the type of person who always finds one thing they like and tend to order that over and over again, it's surprising that I always get something different here, meaning my palate trusts this menu. You can't beat homemade and fresh with any place, and here, at Sesame Burgers and Beer, you can tell in the taste....right down to the ketchup! I absolutely love their ketchup....you can taste the tomato and the tangyness of it. After walking through the mall for hours on end, treat yourself to a hearty meal at this fine place.

Smelled this one as we were walking into Target. We hadn't eaten in a long time, so it was hard to resist going in. It was a little crowded, but we got a spot up on the bar. Service was decent enough and prices were very reasonable. I had the Park Circle burger, but with a black bean burger, the wife got the Down South burger with beef, and we both got fries as well. Got all this for $17! The burgers are some of the largest burgers I've seen, especially at a restaurant. Definitely worth your time to stop by.

I went here on a whim because my Aunt and I were going shopping and wanted to grab a bite to eat. She recommended Sesame and I must admit I did not have high expectations because it was located in the mall. So it was a very pleasant surprise when the food I ordered and the service was excellent! We started off with the Avocado dip which was so fresh! I had the Italian Turkey burger and it was simply divine! The atmosphere is great and so is the service. There are so many different items on the menu I will certainly enjoy going back to Sesame to try them all!

My first time eating here, and I don't think it will be my last, if I return to Charleston! Sweet potato fries are good, as is the calimari and I loved the broccoli cheese soup. I really liked the look of the interior and exterior, and the wait staff was polite, if not warm.

This place in attached to a mall - but I'm not gonna judge it by that. The food was actually pretty good! I ordered the sliders 'cause you get to pick any 3 flavors (score!) with a side of steak fries. The sliders (All American, Down South, and Hawaiian) were tasty, and they have homemade ketchup for the fries, DEE-licious!

One of the best burger places in all of Charleston. The staff is fantastic, and the food is orgasmic. It is amazing everytime! We go weekly for trivia on Saturday, which is a real hoot. Good burgers. Great beer selection. Burger wasn't amazing, but it's pretty good. The quality of the meat is good and the ingredients are very fresh. Prices are on par with other sit down "gourment" burger places.

This place is so inconsistent. We were coming here about twice a week for lunch and the service is consistently bad, unless you are lucky enough to get the awesome John. Sometimes our Caesar salad was overdressed and sometimes it had nothing on it but they charged you extra for bringing a tablespoon of extra dressing. We ordered a shake, it wad huge and we shared it. The next time the split it without asking us and it came in a double shot glass. Like, a taste of a shake. Is just too unpredictable to bother with. I addition outside of the salad I think the food is pretty bland, the sandwiches, the other salads and the tacos are flavorless. My partner and fur if my friends said they've never had a more tasteless burger and they each got a different kind of patty.

Having dined at the best restaurants around the world from SFO, Tokyo, London, NYC, Chicago, Dallas to Paris I have the culinary bar set very high. Sesame serves up a superb selection of mind blowingly delicious burgers, salads, mahi taco's and an incredible selection of beers. The ingredients are fresh & expertly prepared by fast, friendly and attentive staff. This owner truly gets it as does the staff. Put this at the top of your MUST VISIT list. Looking forward to the opening of their new location @ 675 Johnnie Dodds Blvd Mount Pleasant, SC - April 5th... I'll be treating me and my friends!

This restaurant has been open for two weeks at the Citadel Mall location. There is an entrance from within the NE Mall entrance and on the outside of the mall. The establishment opened at 11 am and closes at 9 pm most evenings. There is no WiFi available and from what the manager told me there are no plans on it. The burger selections ranged from the normal burger to the exotic. We ordered burgers and onion rings. The onion rings were too dark for our liking so we asked for some new ones and they obliged without a fuss. I personally still like Fuddruckers however this is a new restaurant and I will try them a few more times to sample some of the other things on the menu. All in all we had a pretty good experience. I would recommend it to anyone.

Traveling, thanks Yelp family for your recommendations, this place is awesome... We ordered to go from the West Ashley location. I ordered the Southwestern salad with shrimp. I think the average 4-star rating is spot on for Sesame. I ate at the bar (since I was alone) for lunch and the bartender was actually a pretty great waiter! I didn't get beer but the selection looked awesome. I couldn't decide what type of burger to get so I just got the sliders to try a few different ones. I thought the Napa was really good, but I can imagine it might be a little too much flavor for a whole burger of that alone? (although, again, I loved the flavor!). I also got the mediterranean burger, which I think was the one I enjoyed most! I also had a side of sweet potato fries, which I have to say, may have restored my cynicism of disliking sweet potato fries (only ordered based on reviews). The house-ketchup is also a must!! The prices were definitely a little steep for what you get. 3 sliders and fries ran me over $10 and I wasn't super stuffed at the end. Overall: I was very happy with Sesame and I can understand the great reviews! Service at the bar was great and not awkward (always a fear when eating alone), the food was excellent, and the atmosphere was appropriately casual. The prices are a little high, but this might just be a Charleston thing, not a Sesame thing. I will definitely hit this up next time I'm in town!

This restaurant is awesome. Great burgers with great ingredients and the staff is prompt and professional. The appetizers are huge as well as many homemade sauces and dips. The only shortcoming is the seating availability. Most of the searing options are tables in the middle of the place; not that comfortable, but usable.

One of the best burger spots I've found in any of the cities I've visited recently! After looking at the menu, I opted for the sliders because I couldn't narrow it down to just one burger. Their pimento cheese and Napa valley burgers are AMAZING!!! I also tried the down south, just to have something in my comfort zone, and wasn't disappointed with that either. Thank you to my fellow yelpers for helping me find this gem!

Burgers galore! Create any kind of burger you want and they'll whip it up. Turkey, chicken, beef or bean burgers are available. Good beer selection and adult milk shakes to drive it home. Daily specials that are great and the salads are on point for those who need to get their greens.

Get the sliders and try a different flavor each time. This place always pleases. I actually tried something different. I tried their Sammie #2 special which was a ham and white cheddar cheese sandwich with caramelized onions. Oh those onions tho'!! My only comment is I wished their wall "Specials" like the Sammie#1 and #2 would include fries.
