While visiting Charleston I was super excited about getting some seafood. Opened my trusty yelp app and took to the ratings to see where we'd head over too. Dined in with my mom and 2 children. They also do take out as they had many patrons come in to pick up their meals. We waited for about 2 minutes before we realized it was self seat . We were immediately greeted at our seats with a friendly waitress who took our drink orders. Sweet Tea kind of reminds me of Chic Fil A's. Needless to say it was good. The kids split a Chicken Strips & Fry combo which was pretty large, and they thoroughly enjoyed. Especially since the waitress also gave them fruit snacks with their meal! I decided to have the Split Decision... YUM! Fried Oyster and Fried Shrimp PoBoy with BAM sauce and a Southwestern Roll. Delicious! Would definitely come back even if it was for take out.

First time to Folly Beach and ate here at the recommendation of a bartender down the street. (The restaurant is actually on James Island) I might start trusting bartenders more if they give good recommendations like this one! We started with some of the she crab soup and it was very tasty (and definitely salty enough)..it could have been a little hotter but we were hungry enough to scarf down without complaint. We then moved on the trio platter with grilled flounder, oyster, and shrimp. Very tasty and the oysters had a nice smoked flavor (and I don't even like oysters). An order of the jerked mahi taco rounded it all out -very flavorful and a nice mouth kick. All bottled beer selection but with a couple local options, too. Reasonable prices but I'd say get there early and eat with the old folks as the place is cosy and fills quickly.

Stopped in with a friend. Great service from Ashley was our server. She did a great job. I had the pick three platter. Flounder, whiting and crab cake. Crab was great. Flounder and whiting was ok. It was fried and had a slightly greasy taste. The sides were Mac and cheese and cold slaw. They were great. My friend got the pick two with grilled shrimp and scallops. It was awesome. The sides were sweet potato fries and Mac and cheese. Both were great. Small place but comfortable. We were seated in the little room by a giant mirror. It was fine until this LOUD talker was placed there too. After that everyone just had to listen to her stories and problems.

This little spot graduated not long ago from a food truck to a brick and mortar and I am glad they did. Surprisingly there are few good seafood fry houses around james island I feel lucky to have roadside so close to my house. I particularly love their shark, either in a basket or tacos. Also when its in season they have hands down the best soft shell crab around. Go forth and eat here. And, they ahve more then fried seafood as well but I have yet to order any of it.

For the price it was great seafood. Mac and cheese was some of the best I have ever had. My only complaint was the slaw was not very favorable-not much taste. Great fried oysters and shrimp. Very small and not a lot of tables but very good experience. Topped it off with a piece of key lime cheesecake for $5.!

As I continue this stroll down memory lane on my Chuck-Town Vacay, I found myself craving some seafood or Soul-food, so I used My trusty Yelp App which directed me to Roadside Seafood off of Folly Road. I know it's been a minute since I've ate on the island but the last time I checked this was a Thai Restaurant so my family and I decided to see if we agreed with the other 67 reviews that gave this place such superb reviews. Upon entering we were greeted warmly by the staff and seated quickly. I loved the seafood decor and felt right at home. We all wanted something different so for our meal: App: crab soup ( cousin loved ) ate every drop Fried Green Tomatoes ~ delicious ... Shrimp Egg-roll egg roll that Resembled Chill's Egg roll, fabulous and overflowing With cheese and black bean ($3.00) mine Meal: Big Daddy's Crab Sandwich ~ he loved (dad) Gator Basket ( grilled/fried ) he loved (cousin) Crab cakes (2 cakes and one side) (mine) too salty but returned for Juicy shrimp and the Mac N cheese was delicious. The prices were Great, (affordable for seafood) well priced, the staff had that Southern Charm I missed by moving to Texas, the Sweet Tea was awesome and I would definitely return. We had an awesome waitress and I'm sorry I didn't get her name but I would have to agree with the other Yelpers, this is a wonderful new Spot representing on James Island !

There is a reason they get slammed at lunch time. The restaurant is really unassuming and indeed roadside on the way to Folly Beach. Prices are decent, we got a platter of fried seafood that included oysters, catfish, and shrimp with Mac n cheese, red rice and cole slaw plus drinks for under $30 and it was plenty for two. We will be back for sure.

Ate here while working out of town. I had a fried shrimp taco and a mahi-mahi taco with a side of macaroni and cheese. My colleague had grilled gator bites and grilled shrimp with sweet potato fries and macaroni and cheese. My tacos tasted very fresh, the fish and shrimp were delicious. The sweet potato fries were absolutely out of this world. Very reasonable prices for the quality of the food.

This is a cosy place to eat. The onion rings are the best I have eaten in years. Great shrimp, fried clam strips, and flounder. Very reasonable pricing and proportions. We will definitely return.

Fantastic place to eat! First place we have eaten that was under $100 for two of us in Folly Beach! We ate crab cakes, shrimp, scallops, Mac n cheese, sweet potato fries, butterfinger cheesecake and a school bus full of children on their way from school. Just kidding! Crab cakes were not too good, however shrimp and scallops were superb! A+ for Mac n cheese, sweet potato fries and cheese cake! The waitress seemed nice but was not too annentive. Overall it was a fantastic experience!

In my opinion, there really is no better place in Charleston for fresh, inexpensive yet delicious seafood than Roadside Seafood out on James Island. The space is how I would describe a "roadside shack", simple and no frills, clearly all about the food. I first went there after hearing they have the best Po Boy in the city and after trying the "Split Decision", loaded with half shrimp and half oysters, slathered with homemade BAM sauce, I was left with no choice but to agree. I also love their Seafood Baskets or Platters, which can come fried or grilled with a ton of options from simple fried oysters, shrimp and crab cakes to more adventurous offerings like shark nuggets and gator tail. Always seeking to order the most off-the-wall items on the menu, I chose the shark and gator and was pleasantly surprised at the tenderness and juiciness of the meat. Their menu also has $4 tacos like the Catfish, Fried Calamari and Jerk Mahi, with two being enough for a meal when paired with a side. As far as fresh, local seafood in Charleston goes, Roadside Seafood really can't be beat, with unique options, large portions, friendly service and fair prices. Must-order items: The Split Decision- Half Shrimp, Half Oyster Po Boy Shark Nuggets Mr. Crab- Crabcake Sandwich Bam Bam Shrimp Taco

Ashley was great! She was the most excited server I think I've ever had...that or she might just be thrilled to be living down south now. She made it a fun experience and had great suggestions. We got so much food, the gator was way softer than I anticipated, not chewy the least (which was my previous gator experience at a different place). The hubs let me try his catfish taco. It was legit good, if I didn't mentally struggle with the idea (or if someone could order me one without me knowing) no doubt I would devour it! I just picture their ugly faces on the bottom of a lake and it kills it for me, but apparently they are tasty! The bam shrimp taco was also really good, perfect mix of everything. The crab cake bites were deceiving let fluffy, very good. The look like they would be heavy and greasy, but they are fairly light and fluffy. The hubs preferred the sauce that came with the crab cakes, but I dipped them in the Bam sauce again. Good little casual place that knows who they are and what they want to be good at. I only wish I had room for the homemade banana pudding. Next time!

I had fried oysters, tender fried gator tail, and she crab soup. My guy had a catfish po boy. The food and service was absolutely fantastic. There was no wait on a Friday! There is a bar next door that is also pretty good. The setting is very casual, you can show up in beach attire with no problem. If you are in the mood for no frills low country seafood this place is a must visit.

Stopped here for lunch. Staff were great. She Crab soup was excellent, and the Mr Crabs sandwich great. Small place, rustic, but great food, great staff.

I would give this place about 3 and 1/2 stars if I could. The food wasn't bad, but it was barely above average. We had Mac and cheese (not great), regular fries ( not great), sweet potatoe fries (not great), onion rings ( eeehhh), shark bites (ok), gator tails (not great), shrimp (small), and oysters (smaller). The prices were high for what you get and we probably won't be back.

After seeing this place on TV I said the next time I am in SC I am going to swing by.. This place is awesome and prices are very reasonable. I plan to eat here every visit to SC. So far i have tried the shrimp, frog legs, crab cakes, and onion rings are awesome!! Lets not forget the sweet tea.. THIS PLACE ROCKS...

After seeing a couple local food bloggers Instagram this place, I had to give it a shot. I called in a take out order of the Mr. Crab sandwich and onion rings. The sandwich had two crab cakes, provolone cheese, lettuce, tomato, and BAM sauce on a hoagie roll. The word on the street about their crab cakes is not incorrect, they are the bomb. As opposed to many places around here where you risk getting way more breading than crab, these cakes are browned on the outside and filled with soft, fresh, sooo-good crab mixture. The BAM sauce brought just enough heat to the dish to take it to the next level while not overwhelming it. The onion rings were thin cut with a crunchy, salt and pepper spiced batter, simple and just right. I want to go back and try their Crabcake bites, which I'm guessing will take me straight to heaven. I also want to taste their gator, shark, and oysters. Or everything on the menu. Whatever.

If I could give Roadside Seafood ten stars, I would. I wish I lived on James Island so that I could frequent this place. First off, the staff is quick and friendly. I have absolutely no complaints about the service. The restaurant is small, but we got there right when it opened so it wasn't crowded yet. We ordered the Mr. Crab sandwich, the bam bam shrimp taco, and a side of onion rings...all of which were INCREDIBLE to say the least. The bam sauce is purely delicious. It does have a little bit of a kick, but it's definitely not too much. The bread of the sandwich is fantastic. It's soft and fresh. The crab cakes were to die for! I was so impressed with how good and fresh they were. The taco was really good as well. The onion rings were homemade and perfectly fried. Needless to say, Roadside does fresh seafood the right way.

Shrimp lightly breaded and golden fried to perfection! Its simple, not uptight. At first I thought it was pricey, however after 5 visits, you get what you pay for in quantity and quality Ive had the gator, flounder, and shrimp, all fried and I loved them all. Their sides are good but not the best I've had,and in no way selling them short! they are tasty. I wish the place was bigger. So many people love it,Makes it hard to get a seat! If you do go bigger please don't lose the quality or the friendly staff!!!

You think you've had alligator and know what it's like until you've been to Roadside Seafood. SUCH a great addition to James Island. The place is cozy. The staff is great. The food is AMAZING. Menu highlights: - Gator Bites - Shark Bites - Calamari Taco - Catfish Sandwich Only downsides are that lines can be a bit long (because it's just so good!).

  • Frank G.

Fresh, fresh, fresh. Seafood at its best. Small place. I have been here twice, and may go back 100 more times. You now have full seating and service. The food is plentiful, and done to perfection. This is not a fancy place, but the food is 5 star. Reminds me of the shacks on Nantucket that sold fresh fish. They have beer and soda, which goes well with what they offer. Frank G

Small dining room, great seafood. Had the fried flounder, fried oysters and grilled shrimp. The fried food was light and not at all greasy, tater sauce was spot on and cocktail sauce was thick and had a small bite. The flounder was meaty, fresh tasting while the oysters were medium size and tasty. Will visit again, keep up the good work!

Hands down the best Seafood in the Charleston Area! Small space, but excellent service and food.

Let's put it this way ! I know almost everything here is fry but.... if you are driving down here..... it's a must. Sometimes there is a waiting outside but it worth.

Nice unassuming place to eat. Prices are reasonable. The space is cosy and the staff was excellent. I never heard of their signature "Bam Bam" sauce. The Bam Bam shrimp was superb. Lightly breaded, I could have eaten pounds of it. Well worth the stop on the way to Folly!

Had lunch here yesterday. It's a charming little place with the world's smallest bathrooms (but hey they're clean and that's all that matters). We shared a big bowl of she - crab soup to start and it was delicious. Not quite the bite I like it to have but nonetheless good. I had a crab cake sandwich which was probably the best I have ever had. Two large cakes on a hoagie roll. This one is a real winner. My wife had fried oyster Ceasar salad and she really enjoyed it. Prices are reasonable for the quality and quantity of food served.

Roadside Seafood is a solid option for mostly fried seafood fare. The parking lot can be a bit of a challenge because there aren't many spots, and the restaurant was pretty crowded for lunch when I was there. I started off my meal with the she crab soup which was quite good. It had the most generous amount of crab I've ever had in a soup and was well balanced with sherry. I also ordered the locally caught fried flounder which was very juicy from the fish itself, not from an overabundance of oil. I had read good things on Yelp about the mac & cheese. Unfortunately I was underwhelmed. It looked as if it had potential but mine was woefully dry.

When you visit or live in a coastal community (i.e. Charleston) this is that place you are always looking for but can never find. We followed this place when it was just a food truck and we are thrilled we don't have to chase it around town anymore. Everything we have ever had has been perfect without exception, from the lobster mac n cheese to the crab cakes. I am just glad we finally found that perfect seafood place and I wish them the best of luck. Update: Don't order the regular fries, they are horrible! Please please fix your fries! I thought it was just a bad day but now they are just consistently yuck. The sweet potato fries and onion rings are great though.

Quite possibly the best casual fried seafood in Charleston that many do not know about and most would never think about. Refreshing.

Accidentally found this place last year while on vacation and staying at the James Island campground. Awesome mix of flavors. Had take out- TWICE!

Completely unassuming spot that delivered my favorite vacation meal. Worth heading off Folly for fresh seafood and quick service. And the Philly cheesesteak is FANTASTIC! One of our daughters had a slight panic at the thought of a seafood spot, but the cheesesteak was so good, it didn't matter. Shrimp taco was fresh and filling and the onion rings were crispy and lightly breaded. Husband had the fried oysters and scallops (wonderful) and other daughter raved about the crab cakes. Unassuming yet welcoming service and a nice heavy wine pour! A definite new favorite. Worth the 20 minute wait.

  • Sean G.

Being a chef and front of house director I am very critical of service and food served. Saying this I can only say this place is the nicest service and quality of ingredients prepared simply with great skill with complete attention to detail. The best place in Charleston for seafood at a good price point.

Finally paid a visit to this place last night and I can't wait to go back!! My boyfriend and I arrived around 7 no problem finding a parking spot. The place is a little on the small side inside and we were stuck at a table right at the door! The staff was very friendly and our waiter made good suggestions. My boyfriend was very happy about the prices and the choices of seafood. We started with the crabcake bites which were okay. They were suppose to come with sauce but we never got any still okay without the sauce. Not a long wait at all with the entrees. I got the bam bam shrimp taco and the calamari taco. Calamari taco was very good. HUGE rings of calamari with "bam slaw" I'm not a big fan out cole slaw but this slaw was very good. That bam bam shrimp taco was out of this world! SO SO GOOD!! Huge jumbo fried shrimp with your basic lettuce, tomato with BAM sauce! God I could get that sauce by itself it was so good and spicy. And did I mention the HUGE perfectly cooked JUMBO shrimp!! I hope this place never leaves!!

Wanted a place away from the high priced tourist traps. After reading all the positive reviews on Yelp we thought we would gone it a try. We were not disappointed. The food was great. The fried shrimp were so fresh and the sweet potato fries were the best I have ever had. We will definitely return before we leave Charleston. This is a jewel of Charleston.

  • Adam J.

They get 3 stars on only service. We did not eat there! We wanted the fish tacos because we heard they were some of the best around. However they only serve their tacos on flour tortillas and my wife is gluten free. Also, any fish taco aficionado knows they should be on corn tortillas.

Interesting little spot on folly road that we decided to try out after a friend mentioned their food. It was good, I had the fried flounder basket with fries and onion rings. The first two strips of fish was good but the other two were fishy and a little tough. The onion rings were ok, a little on the oily side. The ranch was great though! And the bam bam shrimp taco was actually pretty good! I was hoping for some cod for my fish and chips :( but it's not from this area so I guess flounder will have to do. I also didn't like the batter cause it reminded me of chicken fingers, to heavy for me. I was hoping for a lighter batter like beer battered fish and chips.

Just a follow-up review; another great visit to Roadside! Delicious & really nice people!

  • Kristen H.

So yummy!!! We had great service and great food!! It is small and tables are close together. We have ate at many of the upscale restaurants in Charleston and surrounding areas but this one is far better than ALL the others. (A lot better than Hymans which is overpriced and food is not good!!) Go here instead!!

Read other reviews and agree this is a great " find" in Folly. Service was friendly, quick and attentive. Several fresh catch options , delicious red rice and the best banana pudding I've ever had. Will definitely be back.

  • Roberta L.

First I want to say the wait staff was very nice and the service was satisfactory. With respect to other reviewers of this place, we found the food nowhere near the 4.5 star rating. We are foodies and eat out a lot so I was very disappointed in this meal. One person had grilled flounder and au gratin potatoes - the fish was heavily over-salted and the potatoes were cold and the cheese on top hardened. I would have sent it back but she choose not to. The fried clams were mostly breaded with minimal clams and the batter kind of wet and gummy. Salad - mediocre, tacos were nondescript, also mediocre. It's too bad because all the fish and seafood were local caught and fresh....

  • M S.

The husband wanted " tasty, fresh, local, inexpensive and unassuming." RS delivered on all five. Great fried shark, oyster/shrimp Po Boy and grilled shrimp taco. Make sure you save room for wonderful homemade peach cobbler! Next time we're in we'll try the sides...mac & cheese looked fantastic.

This establishment came at the recommendation of well known local artist Jim Booth as a local favorite. We arrived around 11:30 and found a cozy table for two in the quaint dining room. By the time we left both the parking lot and the inside were almost full. This place is popular and for good reason. Being hungry I decided to go for a two item combo of Shrimp and scallops worth gross and highly recommended onion rings.this is a fry place afterthought all. My lovely wife opted for the founder and Mac n cheese. I was pleased that this was a Pepsi establishment and enjoyed a cold one worth our meal. Our orders were delivered promptly, piping hot and crispy, exactly the way fried seafood should be. And presentation is exactly as one would expect. It's finger food after all. The taste of the fresh fare was fantastic! Shrimp were medium sized and the scallops were definitely large. Trust me, try both their homemade dipping sauces - tartar and Bam! Great on everything! We'll definitely be back and send friends to this establishment on any visit to James Island or Folly Beach.

Really great spot. Food is delicious (their batter is wonderfully seasoned) and service is usually really great. Wish they'd expand so there were a few more tables--they can get quite the wait on weekends!

Great local seafood....one of the few places in Charleston that serves local. Everything is awesome...shrimp....crab cakes....the atmosphere is homey, local...love it...my kind of place. Nothing fancy, just great food.

  • Christine M.

Had the gator bites, crab cake bites, Mr. Crabs with Mac n Cheese, and shared banana pudding and key lime pie for dessert. Everything was fantastic, though the menu is mostly comprised of fried entrees. Only a couple salads/grilled entree options. Had a dive atmosphere and a small area to sit down - but they were able to accommodate our group of 8 people after only a 10 minute wait. Drink options were limited to bottled beer and wine. If you have room, order dessert! Both the pudding and pie were delicious!!

Delicious! The place is very small and filled up quick! Everything was fried perfectly, including the scallops. The Mac and cheese was cheesy. The cole slaw was ok.

  • Sarah J.

I wasn't completely blown away... The fried shrimp and oysters were okay. They were breaded and fried very well, but there was a slight bitter taste. I could tell everything was fresh though! The flounder was probably the highlight of the meal - perfectly cooked and very flavorful. I certainly don't have any complaints about the service. Very nice staff. The menu is enticing with a nice variety and fair prices. I like the clean, casual atmosphere and I love that they make take-out easy. I will likely go back and update my review accordingly!

  • Erika R.

Not the greatest customer service. Crab cakes and she crab soup lacking in crab. Flounder and scallops very average. Oysters were pretty good. Coleslaw was not good.... too sweet and over dressed. 2-3 stars in my opinion.. very average.

Food truck turned restaurant w late night snacks at IBG I've been a fan of Roadside Seafood since they were a food truck. My grandma owns a shrimp boat dock, wholesale market, and seafood restaurant in Beaufort and I've never been able to find any decently price, simply fried seafood that rivals hers. Roadside is just that. It's nothing fancy, and that's not what they want to be. They want to deliver local seafood, cooked up as fresh as possible, and served at a good price. The menu is pretty simple. A few small bites/appetizers. The Bam shrimp are fried shrimp tossed in a delicious spicy sauce. The shrimp egg rolls taste fresh and homemade. Shrimp, black beans, and corn give it that southwestern flare. They're served with a smoky southerwern sauce. Lover boy had the she crab soup. It was nice and full of crab meat. He did say it could have used a little more sherry. We shared the large basket of shrimp and fries for a snack on the way home from the beach. For $12 we got 13 large fried shrimp and huge basket of fries. Can't beat that in my book! The staff was very friendly and I loved their matching striped shirts. Decor inside is cute and nautical. The place could've been cleaned up a little better when they took over from Jasmine Thai Restaurant, but nothing overwhelming. Hey, it is a roadside seafood joint! Newest way to get Roadside Seafood...Hang out next door at Island Bar & Grille and order through the privacy fence straight from the food truck. The Bam Shrimp or fish tacos are sure to cure you're late night munchies and get you home safely!

Love this place. Glad they have a brick and mortar. My spouse, however, does not like it at all. We did a Folly/James Island shrimp taco tour and by far this restaurant had the best shrimp on the taco, not the best taco but the best shrimp. Their soft shell crab Sammy is to die for.

  • Chris M.

AMAZING!!! Looking for some of the best and fresh seafood on the island this is the place to eat. Staff was super friendly and food came out so fast and hot! Also you can't beat the price and the variety of of food choices! Our table all ordered different food items and all were impressed! You have to try the she-crab soup to start (so much crab meat in soup). The "BAM" sauce goes great with any entree but they also offer many different sauce choices. You can dine or carry-out which is a plus. I can't wait for my next visit. Thank you roadside seafood!

Outstanding food, good price, a lot of food, great customer service, and free wifi. My husband is a shrimpaholic and he said this is by far one of the best shrimp baskets he has ever had. I would absolutely recommend this place.

LOVED IT! My new favorite hole in the wall! Stopped here for take out on our way fishing. We got the fried combo and didn't get to eat it until we settled on the beach about an hour later and everything was still fantastic, even cold. The Catfish and whiting were so moist and perfectly cooked. There was a ton of oysters. The onion rings and cole slaw were very good. We also tried the gator bites. Very good and moist, but i agree with other posters, a bit too salty. We are definitely going back b/c the taco's looked amazing. If I like it as much the next time, I'm definitely readjusting to 5 stars.

This place us tiny but super busy. We waited about 10 minutes to be sat as a party of 3. The waitress was nice and came over quickly. We waited a long time for food and the iced tea was a little warm but it was fixed with an extra cup of ice. We tried the crab cake balls which had good flavor but were very mushy. I had she crab soup to start the flavor was good but it could have used more crab. My dining companions got fried options which were all very tasty, the favorite being the shrimp. they were crispy and buttery. I had the grilled oysters and scallops. oysters were ok but the scallops were cooked very well. Overall the food was fresh but not my favorite for seafood.

Fish was fresh and tasty. Fries were soggy, could've been cooked longer. Fries said they were seasoned but from my picture it's obvious they weren't heavily seasoned. Nothing to write home about.

Their combo oyster/shrimp sandwich is one of the best seafood sandwiches I've ever had. Better ambiance/food than the fried seafood/markets joints around town but just as fresh seafood.

Yummmm! My husband and I just enjoyed a quick and tasty lunch at Roadside Seafood. He had the oyster sandwich and I had a basket of fried shrimp. We split the crabcake bites... they were great! The waitresses were kind and quick. We will be back!

Classic fried seafood joint but also have a lot of interesting meats that you won't find everywhere, including alligator, shark nuggets and frog legs.

Had to wait for about 40m without anybody coming by to serve us. The platter is too small, not worthy it, grilled mahi is overly salty

I thought it was great...we got an assortment of tacos and bam bam shrimp....all was fresh and well done....All the food around us looked great and it seemed all enjoyed their meals. I look forward to going back....I only wish they would do a few more veggie base sides....

Simple setting, excellent food, attention, Service and price. Small, 10 tables. Quick service. We tried oysters and calamari baskets, regular size. Regular size is plenty!

This place has the most amazing seafood. I always get the Bam Shrimp tacos and the Bam sauce is to die for. Spicy and delicious. My boyfriend always gets the po boy with the shrimp and fried oysters and he absolutely loves it. The she crab soup is some of the best I've had in Charleston. One time we got it and it was just not good at all and they said they had just gotten a new cook and offered to send us coupons. Great place!

One isn't fair because I've had a great platter of fried shrimp and oysters from there. That's why I went back. Not this time. By the time this night is over they are going to owe me a few imodiums, a box of baby wipes and a few hours sleep.

Recommended to us by staff member at James Island County Park, so we tried it on our last day of our visit. Service was fast and very friendly. Good was quick, very fresh and tasty. Bam Bam shrimp tacos were killer. Wife had a good looking Bam Bam shrimp salad which she enjoyed. It was good, we'll be back on our next Charleston visit. Glad that lady sent us here.

So thrilled to find this gem in our neighborhood! The Hot Mess Tacos are amazing, had the Bam Bam Shrimp taco which my husband loved, and the Gator bites -- a little salty, but we still ate them. The service was great -- and yes, it's definitely a no-frills kind of place, but I'll take that, good service, and good food any day! Will definitely be back to try more!

Shaaaaazam man what a great lunch we had, they had me like BOOM POW ZING.... super food and affordable. Small dinning area but big food... A couple of co workers raved about this lil joint so I had to go see, and by no means was I let down. The sammichs were very good, the baskets were large and the people there were super nice. Go go go to this place it's super.

Everything was great--fried flounder, she-crab soup, crab cakes. Friendly service. Great value. Will be back within the week. Returned for more! And everything was just great. Tried the shrimp, got more soup, got more flounder. Ready to go back. Maybe a few service wrinkles to iron out, but they're like 2 months old. Nothing they can't fix.

While on a vacation to Isle of Palms we found this unassuming and delicious place on the ol interwebs; we enjoyed it so much we dined there twice in a week. Fairly standard fried seafood type place but the execution was great - fresh, lightly breaded, well seasoned, not greasy and generous portions for a fair price. I think we would be happy with anything ordered but we stuck with the Big Easy (shrimp, fried green tomatoes, special sauce) and the 1/2 oyster 1/2 shrimp po boys ($9, $10 respectively, $2 to add a side). They were both delicious and overflowing with shrimp and oysters; we had to pick a few off before even attempting to pick up the sandwich. The regular fries were a bit lacking but the sweet potato fries made up for them; mac and cheese was solid and the onion rings were great. Lobster mac and cheese special was really tempting but we'll have to make a trip back for that. If you're looking for simple, well done, fried local seafood at a reasonable price I'd highly recommend Roadside Seafood.

I am a regular at Roadside Seafood. Like so many others, I started following them when they had a food truck and fell in love. I'm an island resident and regular diner. Everything is fantastic - from the Mr .Crabs sandwich to the amazing mac n cheese to the Hot Mess Taco (fried blacktip shark bites), feta cheese, bam sauce and sriracha!) This is a great local business that's still getting their feet under them. Go by and visit them; skip the chain restaurants and show them some love. They're worth it!

After spending the day at folly beach...called it in to go and can't wait to try again on our next visit. The seafood was fresh and the portions large. Do not let the venue scare you away.

A little fried nugget of James Island. No BS here just simply seasoned fresh seafood. From fried platters to po' boys this place can meet just about any seafood lovers appetite. They make the awesome kind of Mac and cheese! They do the food truck late nights on the weekend.

A genuine little treasure. Pull into this little roadside house and load up on sammiches and onion rings. You will be pleased

I had no idea how good the food at Roadside Seafood was. I'd seen the truck on Folly Rd and other spots, and the lines in front should have given me a clue, but I was never able to stop. So when Roadside Seafood was parked at the Sunday Brunch Farmer's market, I thought I'd give it a try. Nice menu, reasonable prices, happy faces of return customers. All good signs. What really tipped me off, though, was the lady who almost accosted me for the shrimp taco I was carrying to the car to take home. "Where are the?!!", she nearly shouted as she grabbed my arm. "I've driven from Summerville, to the wilds of James Island for a Bam Bam Shrimp Taco! I thought I'd never find this place! Where are they?!!!" I pried her fingers from my arm (worried her grip would leave a mark), and pointed to the food trucks across the market. "Are they that good?", I asked? "This is my first try." She turned to follow my pointing finger, and took off at a near sprint. "Yep, they're that good," she called back over her shoulder. Know what? She was right. Follow them on Facebook, Twitter, or Instagram for locations.

So good. Hole in the wall place with unique (to me) options like gator and shark. The crab cake was fabulous, and I'm a Marylander so I'm hard to please there. The bam bam sauce is great and their tartar sauce is the best I've ever had. They have more fried options than I usually like but it was all really good.

This place was good - some really Southern food. We had alligator tail, among others :).

I cannot say enough great words about this place! Everything is great - best she crab soup we've ever had. Crab cakes are stellar, breading on fried items is crispy and light, and the bam sauce is a great alternative to the already good tartar sauce. Every time we're near Charleston - we'll eat here.

I have been hearing great things about this place. I had to give it a shot and it was great. Everything ordered from shrimp to oysters were fried fresh. It was seasoned and fried well. The shrimp PO boy bread was very fresh. The bam sauce had the right amount to spice. I also tried the she crab soup. A nice thick and creamy soup base. The crab was so fresh that I had to pick a small amt of shell out. I would prefer that knowing that it's fresh. I will return to eat again. They only thing that needs to be fixed is the portion size. The restaurant size is like their food truck size. Very nice staff.

Eat here. I'm glad we stopped by on the front end of our vacation. We'll be back for sure. The fried local seafood is delicious, but it was great to learn they'll grill/pan sear as well. Try the grilled scallops, better known as buttery deliciousness. We had gator bites; she-crab soup; fried shrimp, scallops, oysters, flounder and chicken; and crab cakes. It was all amazing. And don't forget a slice of key lime pie, the perfect finish to a great meal. Been at the beach all day? They have Gatorade in the soda gun! Service was beyond great. Thanks, Carly, we'll see you soon!

Had Dinner of Flounder and Oysters. The food was the very best . The slaw and corn sides were also excellent. Very busy ,crowded and not at all fancy but liked the owner and loved her food.

Yes this is it the place locals go to get fresh seafood prepared in the southern tradition. Brings back memories of fish fries from my youth. This is a must if you are anywhere close to Charleston. Dine in or take out. Nothing fancy just like the sign says " Best "Bam" seafood in town". This place will be on our can't miss list from now on. Oh and great service and fantastic people. The best kept secret in the Folly Beach area.

Roadside Seafood is amazing and the people who own it: Incredible and Nice! I am a tour guide here in Charleston and am always looking for places to recommend to people, Roadside Seafood is my number one recommendation! I went back twice the first week that I went, and the last time I had family in town, I took them there and they loved it. The service was great and the food, fabulous. In my opinion the She Crab Soup they serve is the best in Charleston. Make sure you check out Road Side Seafood, it does not disappoint!

Cannot say enough good things about this place and its food. Everything was sooooo great! Some of the best fried shrimp I've ever had. The cole slaw was excellent as was the macaroni and cheese. Even the corn on the cob was great! Staff was very friendly and accommodating. It's a very casual place with plastic table cloths and paper towel rolls on the tables so don't come here for a fancy dinner. But if you want awesome food, it's definitely that!!!

The truck used to come to my work and for about 3 months, I was there getting the wonderful fried shrimp with fries EVERY Tuesday. ($8.00) I have had my fair share of fried shrimp, but this is hands down the best I have ever had. They are large and lightly battered; you get about 12 in an order on top of glorious crinkle cut fries (sometimes straight fries), which are always cooked perfectly. The cocktail sauce and tartar sauce are home made as well. Service is fast and the servers/cooks are always friendly. If you see this truck, you won't regret stopping!

My initial review was not an actual review since I had been unable to find them open. Sean responded promptly and pointed out that I had been going to a similarly named restaurant that is no longer in operation. With Sean's directions I had a fantastic experience today. I wanted to try the she crab soup but they were out of it. It was just as well because my platter was more than ample. I ordered the fried flounder, shrimp, and oysters. Very large portions! Flounder was superb, likely the best I have ever had. Shrimp were large and perfectly prepared. Oysters were large, plump, tasty. My sides, slaw and onion rings, were excellent. They make their own tartar sauce and it is great. It seems to take a while to get orders out but it is worth the wait. Service was friendly, courteous, and attentive. This is what seafood is all about!

First of all, the food is good. Not great but good, fried food but when we went into the restaurant, we had to order at the counter. We had to ask twice for water, which came in styrofoam cups. The menu said Soft shell crabs were one for $9 or 2 for $18... really simple math! They came with a choice of 2 sides, there were 3 choices; 2 of which were fries. We each ordered a soft shell and they came out in one plastic basket with 1 order of each of the sides! No extra plate or basket! Wait a minute! Am I at the food truck or in a restaurant? I'm just saying....they moved into a restaurant, act like a restaurant otherwise what is the point? won't go back...
