Our waitress Paige was absolutely amazing! Quite possibly one of the best Bloody Mary's I've ever had and the smoked wings were cooked perfectly.

Showed up here on a Sunday afternoon, looking to grab a quick snack and pass some time before a 5pm carriage ride with out of towners. While we were acknowledged right away, it took several minutes after sitting down to be addressed by our server. She took our drink orders, and when she came back with our cocktails, decided it was the appropriate time to tell us they were out of wings and ribs. Had we been told that when we walked in the restaurant, we would have walked right out. I am sure she just forgot to tell us, but that was a big bummer. Our cocktails were decent. Not blown away by anything, but not disgusted by anything. We ordered a pulled pork plate, ended up with a pulled pork sandwich. Whatever, we just ate the pulled pork. BBQ sauces were all quite tasty. Though nothing was wrong with our food or drinks, nothing wowed me either. I definitely wouldn't recommend going out of your way to come here for a meal. The service was a bit lacking, and the food was just.. meh.

Although we did not try their FAMOUS BBQ it sure did smell AMAZING! We sat outside people watching and having a few beers while we waited to meet up with our ghost tour group. We did notice lots of people coming in to eat and picking up food for take away. We also over heard something about a jello wrestling match that went on the night before (wish we would have known about that)

The Barbecue was really good. The service was very friendly and relatively quick for lunch time on a Monday. I would eat there again if in Charleston.

Small restaurant with maybe 10 tables inside, and handful on the porch, and a single restroom. Order the wings with the Memphis Sweet sauce -- they are meaty and delicious, served with celery and blue cheese dip. 10 wings are $9.50. We also had the bbq chicken tacos (2 for $8), served with slaw and cheese) -- okay, but the wings were better. Service is slowish, but friendly.

If you're strolling down Market Street in search of somethng to eat, keep walking almost to the very end, and you will be rewarded by bumping into Quelogy. Its small on the inside with a nice patio area for outside dining. Let me start with the food- it was terrific. We had pulled pork tacos and pulled chicken tacos served with cole slaw, BBQ sauce and shredded cheese on a flour tortilla. Each order included two tacos for $7.99. They were awesome, we had one of each and both were stellar. I added a side of baked beans for $2 and felt that was not a good value, it was a very small portion -maybe 1/4 cup in size. We had two excellent ice cold Shandys for $5 each. They have two tyoes of BBQ sauce and an orange mustard on the table to spice up your plate. We thought the service was a bit disorganized, we had multiple people approach our table with the same question. After we ordered, our server came back and double checked what we ordered. We had two different servers bring us our check. The service just seemed weird and not quite right. On balance, it was definitely a good experience.

I had the ribs and smoked chicken wings and baked beans. ....the ribs were a bit dry, the wings were cooked perfectly but no flavor the baked beans taste like sugar and canned beans with a watered down bbq....I did not like any of the 3 bbq sauces ....but the prices are very reasonable and the waitresses were smiling and very accomodating!

Sitting in Queology having a cold beer with my fiends, caught sight of it walking thru the Charleston Market. Very quaint and relaxing Not having food, but the barbecue aroma smells fantastic. The bartenders are very personable and friendly, esp. Paige !!

Really good. A good sign of a good bbq place is a small menu. There are the standards when it comes to meat. Then there are like 6 sides. We got the smoked wings. They were great. Will try again for the pulled pork.

Queology was a fantastic choice! The location is by the market shops, which is great! The food was phenomenal. I had the pulled pork sandwich with the Memphis sweet bbq. The sauce was the right amount of sweet but not overbearing. It had great flavor. The mustard Bbq was excellent as well. My boyfriend had that and really enjoyed it. I would definitely recommend this restaurant and will return again.

Service was outstanding. Orders were fast. Drinks were great. However...We ordered the pulled pork basket - expecting meat a'plenty and foregoing the sandwich with a side. However - It was a sandwich. With a side. Meat was tenders and plenty, but dry - on a dry bun. Side dish (the only moisture on the plate) was good, but tiny. We had such high expectations and picked a SC BBQ joint to experience SC BBQ. They had sauces - Kansas City. Memphis, and mustard. None unique to SC. We left confused and disappointed. For award winning BBQ. We expected award winning BBQ. Y'all have some work to do pleasing the off the street masses who seek you out (200+ miles) and come in expecting you to live up to your reputation.

We went to this restaurant for the first time. Ordered Bloody Mary's which were very good. We explained to our waiter that we were from Memphis and BBQ experts. He said we were going to "love" the ribs more than any we had ever had. He said they were dry rub etc. we ordered a half rack. They were not dry, they were tough, tasted burnt and we told him we didn't like them at all. We each ate one bite. He said he was shocked! We told him to take them away. Then he tried to sell us beer glasses. So we paid $38 dollars for ribs we couldn't eat. He left us with a " look forward to seeing you back for lunch"

Went here after a sunset cruise with the girlfriend, first we walked in and didn't know if we had to seat ourselves or if we had to wait for a hostess. Besides the sitting arrangement everything was great, I had the BBQ tacos and she had some wings, she said the wings were great while the tacos were good also. Decent prices and fast service.

Expected a lot of this place after visiting Smoke on the Harbor the day beforehand and hearing they had won some awards for their BBQ. Overall, the food was fine. I ordered a pulled chicken sandwich with baked beans and it was tasty. They had sauces on the table to use to adjust the taste of my meal to my liking. My biggest gripe was that there is no "kitchen". The food is prepared out in the open behind the bar for all to see. I think it's a big turnoff to be eating and seeing someone handling raw chicken within eyesight. I'm just thankful he had gloves on. Oh and they were using a microwave to heat things up. :/ Also, one of the employees was eating behind the bar while working. Big no-no if you ask me. Plus I watch a lot of Restaurant Impossible. Service was very good but I just can't get past that open kitchen. This place has sooo much potential . Hope they take this constructive criticism and make some changes!

This was my worst experience of a restaurant bar idk what to call it there are 4 things on the menu, you ask for a drink menu your told it's a full bar... well they don't make everything. ... The baked beans taste like a whole can of black pepper was dumped into a pot with a can of beans.... The food is the worst STAY AWAY

Small menu, GREAT food. I was a little hesitant to eat here after the terrible review about them microwaving the pulled pork before serving it. When we were there, the only thing I saw warmed in the microwave was the buns. The ribs were GREAT, the pulled pork was good, the lemonade was wonderful. I went there with my husband and 3 kids. The place was small with a live band which entertained the kids. The reason I gave 4 out of 5 stars is because we paid over $3 a piece for tea and lemonade. I think they should offer a kid's menu with kids drinks to make it more family friendly. The servers were very nice and attentive. We were actually standing in front of the building trying to decide if we would be eating there when the server came out and welcomed us in, telling us the kids would love it (and they did). I probably would not take my kids to this place during the evening, when it would be more of a bar scene. However, during the early evening, there were families there enjoying the music and great food.

Surprisingly good pulled pork sliders. Not much else was open and we were still on San Francisco time. Great upbeat bartendress and Palmetto, good local beer on tap. Bonus points for boxing machine.

Super friendly service, absolutely delicious tender barbecue. Chicken wings are to die for, pulled pork is tender and delicious. We'll be back!

Small place and a small menu but great BBQ. Only thing missing on the menu was brisket. I had a plate of ribs and pulled pork. They put out 3 sauces to try and all were good. What I especially liked was they do not pre-sauce anything so if you don't want sauce you aren't forced into it. Wife had a chicken and smoked sausage combo plate. She is not a sauce fan but they brought out a pepper vinegar that she loved on the chicken. Mac & cheese was a little dry and not very cheesey, but I didn't come for that anyway. Beans were top notch as well.

We were in Charleston only a few days but each day we made a point of eating at Queology. The server was delightful and so sweet. And twice in two days they readily accommodated our 3-legged dog and his cart on the patio. They couldn't have been nicer about it, and our server even got him a bowl of water. So they were dog-friendly and then some and we so, so appreciated it. They made our trip so much easier on us and our pooch. Oh yes and the barbeque was delectable! We had never had barbeque like that. It was quite different and tasty. Even the chicken salad had a little que flavor to it. We loved this place! Thanks Queology. You made our trip to Charleston so special we didn't want to leave!

Best wings i've ever had in my life. This place opened feb 2013 and serves up some mean bbq. Friendly service and cold beers make for a pleasant meal along side market st.

It's easy to complain about a business ! I read some of the reviews and just think to myself someone needs a nap! I want to preface this with , I am a certified BBQ judge , I have competed and won grand championships ! I run a part time catering business for 12 years! I know a little about BBQ! I will say I have not heard of queology in the BBQ circuit! I was surprise about there boasting about there competition experience actually in Kcbs competition they are just average, which is pretty good if you ask me! I had the chicken , ribs and pork. It was all good! It was basic southern pride style BBQ . I liked the set up. This a place for people who understand real BBQ . I felt home here as a pit master! If you are looking for someone worship you , this not the place! Price is tad high for what you get . But that's Charleston! One gripe is dont brag a bout your brisket when it's not on the menu! That one was from my wife. All in all I liked it anyone who complains , well just go some where else!

I know what you're thinking BBQ on Market St in Charleston, SC... really? Yes, this was hands down top 5 BBQ I've had and before you comment I've spend months in KC and Texas. It happened completely by accident. We were in our final hours of a trip picking up a few last minute gifts for family members and wanted to grab a cold beer on the sweltering hot day. We sat at the bar and started asking about the unique name and all the trophies around the room. The bartender/ waiter/ owner convinced me to try a sample plate on the house. The owner looked like he had spent some time in a BBQ pit competition so I decided I didn't have anything to loose. The BBQ was juicy, flavorful and had as thick a smoke ring I've seen. The sauce if you're into that kind of BBQ, was amazing as well and they had multiple flavors. Needless to say, I ordered two sandwiches and another beer. Such a great place and when I come back to Charleston I know where I'm headed to break up monotony of shrimp and grits.

I am always looking for good BBQ and was not disappointed at Queology. Ribs and pulled pork were good. The mustard based sauce was tasty. The BBQ sauce was tangy and flavorful. I also had the corn on the cob which was very good. The server was very friendly and helpful. Service was a little slow due to staffing.

This is simply the worst restaurant in Charleston! We should have left the second we saw them actually use a microwave to make our wings and pork sliders. Beyond disappointing. You would be better off going to tbones.

  • Sandi P.

The only reason to give this place even one star is because the server was very good . This is the worst place you could ever get food at . We literally watched as the "cook" took the ribs out of plastic wrap and put them into the microwave .... Can't stress how bad this food was will not return

Not sure why the other reviewer had such a bad experience. Maybe he works for the competition. I was visiting from Atlanta and am originally from Alabama -- I KNOW my BBQ. This place has the best wings I've ever had. My ribs were excellent, and I had a superb turkey leg. All perfectly smoked and delicious. I highly recommend this place. It's uncomplicated and has a very basic menu, but that just simplifies things in my opinion. The food is fantastic. Even the baked beans were better than expected. Not to be missed if you're in Charleston on a visit or otherwise.

Terrible terrible ribs. I am from rhode island and we have better ribs up north than this place. Figured i would try some southern bbq, i was very disappointed in the the quality of their food. They give you all kinds of sauces to have with your food, but still had trouble choking it down even when covered with sauce. They only have 4 things on menu and they still cant get it right, heed the warning and stay away.

As a former competition bbq competitor, commercial bbq just doesn't grab my fancy much. This place is amazing. Went back twice during our 3 day stay. Wings are best I've ever eaten. Sauces are awesome. We will be going back!

  • Bill And Carolyn ..

You've got to get the wings. They are smoked and wonderful. They don't have fries but the potato salad was great. Get the wings plain and put your own sauce on them. I liked the mustard sauce! Great iced tea and draft beer!

I was starving for lunch and I decided to stop by for some barbecue. I stopped by Queology and was greeted by the bartender Sammie. She was very attentive and she made sure that I had everything that I needed and also had great suggestions. The ribs were nice and moist with a great dry rub. There was definitely no need for any sauce. Also it was nice to enjoy some live music later on in the evening. I would definitely return in the future.

What a great find. Best service I've had in along time. Best BBQ I've had. Definitely love the atmosphere here in this old church. We would like to thank the server Jessica. Can't wait to come back. West Virginia boys love this place.

I wouldn't say this is the best barbeque place in Charleston but it is close I always get the barbeque tacos (simply amazing) and I am never disappointment. The menu is small but it makes it quicker to decide what to eat. They have a large bar and very friendly staff. It's a nice place to stop when you are in need of quick food in between shopping or visiting Downtown.

Review is from 6/14/14. Ok, whenever I am south of the Mason-Dixon line I am thinking ONE THING...BBQ!!! And when I mean BBQ I don't mean hot dogs and hamburgers (i.e. grilling), I think of "low and slow" cooked with love. As I walked down the street and say some "REAL" BBQ (or at least how they advertise it) I practically ran into the place knocking people out of my way as I proceeded to a bar stool. The first thing that I noticed on the menu was that they have VERY limited choices (pulled pork or BBQ chicken) but you know what? That's fine by me. If you can make me some Pulled Pork that will make me cry tears of joy while I eat it then by all means cook only one or two meats. Well I ordered the Pulled Pork plate and as I ate it I WAS crying....but not tears of joy. They were tears of despair. The meat was dry. I mean just BONE DRY. Now pulled pork is made from a pork shoulder and that is a fairly fatty piece of meat that is quite hard to try out. Well I have to tip my hat to Queology because they DID find a way to make it bone dry. So sad. I actually feel bad that a pig had to die to end up to be a dry pulled pork platter by an amateur BBQ cook! Side dishes. Bad. The baked beans were from a can. The coleslaw? NO SLAW. not that great. I WILL say that the sauces that they had there are very good. My advice would be to go there and but there sauce to go and make your own BBQ at home with your own smoker. Queology? I would rather have a pool cue broken over my head than go here again.

Bring 10 people and you can get VIP status everyday. This includes a free bottle if Grey Goose vodka! Call in advance. If you don't have a big group vodka is only a $1 anyway every Thursday. That's a great deal and when you throw in the location, the food and Ghislaine the bartender and you have got a good cheap night out on Market Street. The food is Memphis style barbecue not what I was expecting to be in Charleston. $19.99 can feed a party of 4-6. We got two party platters for my family which is a big group easily 16 people. We got both a chicken and a pulled pork party platter. Go early and get your eat on because there are bars on both sides that cause a line to form right outside the entrance. although that is not a bad spot if you are people watching.

I went for lunch the other day and had the pulled pork plate. I'm from the Memphis area so I'm no rookie to BBQ. It was good not my favorite by far but location is great. Enjoyed dining on the porch overlooking the market. I will definitely go back. Service was great.

Roadtripping from North Carolina back home to Miami with a pit stop in Charleston. Yelp came in handy and led us to this fine establishment. Not necessarily kid friendly but they accommodated anyway providing coloring books and improvising from the menu to serve my kid pulled chicken sliders. My pulled pork tacos were delicious and my husband said his pulled pork sandwich was the best he's ever had. Corn on the cob and cole slaw also amazing. Great service too.

We sat down and there were some people beside us, just stopped in for a beer, that said Nick's is better. I thought how bad could this be. Well I ordered pulled pork with slaw and baked beans. The pork was pulled in chunks not shreds. There was no smoky flavor at all. Having smoked meat in the past I know that when it comes out like this it is a safe temp to eat it but not long enough to make it really tender. The meat was tough and flavorless. The only positive thing I can say about the meat is that they do not sauce it. You get to choose your sauce. The slaw was loaded with celery salt and the beans were cold. I really wanted to like this especially after seeing all the awards they have one. They need to take that award winning cooking and put it in their restaurant.

The BBQ is quality as well as the wings, wow. Also the sides of slaw and the potato salad were really good too and they are made in house. Josh our server was awesome too definitely made sure we had everything we needed.

Walking along market Street we saw this restaurant. We decided to eat there. The food was good however my wife really wanted chicken wings which they were out of , hard to believe since there was only two or three items on the menu.

Nothing really stood out other than the pork tacos. They were good and I liked the Memphis Sweet sauce. Other than that, it was pretty status quo.

I had a fantastic experience. Our server, Haley, was exceptionally gracious and helpful. My co-workers and I thought that the cajun-dry rub wings were some of the best that we ever have.

The wife was doing some shopping on Market St. so I stopped in for a beer. The bartender spotted my shopping bag and asked if I was waiting on my wife - apparently this is a frequent shop for husbands to have a brew while their wives shop. And what better food to appeal to the men than BBQ! It wasn't long since I had lunch, but I ate on the light side, so I figured I'd try something small. I went for the smoked turkey leg ... I'm always a sucker for those at the Renaissance Festival. The turkey leg was OK - a tad on the dry side, but decent flavor. I still prefer the ones at the RenFest. Their sauces were darn good though - especially their NC-style vinegar-base and SC-style mustard based sauces. Beer selection was small but decent. I've found that in Charleston they don't waste their taps on NASCAR beer. You want that swill, you buy it in a can or a bottle. They had 4 taps - one for Angry Orchard, one for a White IPA (New Belgium Accumulation I think it was), one for Palmetto Amber, and one for Red Hare Watership Brown. I had been seeing the Red Hare Watership Brown around a lot and decided to give it a try. It was OK, but a bit underwhelming. Queology is OK, but I think next time I'm in the area and need a watering hole, I'll try something else.

Two words.... Loved It!!! My husband and I wanted to try a few different things so we split pulled pork tacos, shredded chicken tacos, and Cajun dry rub wings. The flavors were amazing and all three sauces were awesome too. My husband had the baked beans as a side and they were smoky goodness in a bowl. I had the cole slaw and it was fresh, crisp, and refreshing. The atmosphere was casual and perfect to enjoy a beer and BBQ. Our waiter/bartender Joshua 'AllSmiles' was so nice and helpful in the decision process. Next time you are downtown Charleston, stop in and grab a bite. You won't be disappointed!

A chum and I went to the Market during the holidays...and from all our walking about thought we'd grab a bite to eat...We both love wings (smoked) so we thought we'd give it a try...we both had wings and an iced tea...she had mac and cheese... First impression was not overly inviting...ha... and restroom was like right next to the bar...not real friendly...like.... oh you all want something...should have took that as a que... and wandered town the sidewalk...wings were tiny...and bland...server was okay...

  • Steve S.

These guys are the shizzy! Had a rib platter, chicken platter, and wings... Arguably best wings in town (secret, get the dry rub and sauce it yourself with the Memphis BBQ - unreal), best ribs I've had in Charleston, cole slaw and corn on Cobb is awesome, staff is super cool. Can't say enough great things about this place.

We relocated to charleston and fresh off the plane we visited the historical downtown charleston and wound up here! I must say we had the BEST SMOKED WINGS EVER IN MY WHOLE LIFE!!!! and I've had a lot of wings!! We would have liked to order more and have a few more beers but the bartender wouldn't let us charge up cell phone. And we needed the gps it to find our hotel!!! So sad, he was kinda sassy to the waitress who was trying to plug it in for us. That's why there's only three stars or I would give five! It's called customer service!!!

This place was awesome!! I devoured my Bbq chicken taco basket with a side of beans (used the Tennessee and Kentucky sauces FYI) and had an awesome time chatting with Christa the bartender. She was the best!!!

No. Just no. Ate here tonight. I'll give them a slight pass because we came late but having run a bbq restaurant I can say I've never served such dried out meat. Ever. Very small portion too. Paid over 9 bucks for a scrawny dried out pork sammie and a bag of chips. Sad beer selection too. Very pleasant bartender/server/kitchen worker though.

My boyfriend and I walked around downtown to find a place to watch the Superbowl and grab dinner. Queology was the only place that wasn't packed out. When we walked in, we felt a little skeptic because of the lack of guests there, but we were glad of it so we could grab a couple bar stools. They had beer and tvs on the game, which was what we needed. The menu is small without a lot of variety, but if you're looking for barbecue, this place has all their bases covered (ribs, pulled pork, pulled chicken, wings...). My boyfriend got the chicken sandwich plate for $10 and I got wings and a side of corn. My boyfriend and I both agreed the wings were the BEST either of us have ever had. They are smoked and they have three different sauces (mustard based, sweet and spicy) to use. The mustard was AWESOME! I ended up buying a jar for $6.99 because it was so good. It has a little spice to it. I made pork shops with the sauce the following night and it was yummy! The corn on the cob smelled and tasted like it was smoked too. Seemed a little under-cooked and still crunchy. This place is small, but it is a must try for anyone in town looking for barbecue! I will be visiting again when I am in town to see my boyfriend. Thanks Queology!

I was visiting for spring break with my best friend and we found this place just walking around. We were starving, so we just stopped in on a whim. I had the pork tacos, and they were absolutely incredible. I haven't been impressed with any restaurant in the area as much as I was with this place!! We had Meg as our bartender, and we connected with her right away. She was extremely attentive to me and my best friend, and we were honestly having a good time talking to her at the bar. I would definitely recommend requesting her!!

  • Tony S.

Great food, drinks, and service! The most friendly staff I've encountered on my trip thus far. Great recommendations. I had pulled pork and brisket and it was terrific. Couldn't ask for a better time. I would come back to Charleston just to come back to Queology. Ask for Sandy and Lexa if you want to have the best time of your life! This was a recurring stop during my trip.

3.5, actually - but I feel I just can't round up. First off: very lively place with friendly and entertaining (not in a cheesy way) staff. Country music on the radio with the wait staff all quietly singing along. It's clear these folks like working here and like working with each other. Also, great service. It was busy so we took seats at the bar. A good choice because you get to see all of the chopping and plating happening in the small open kitchen. So, 5 for service and atmosphere. I wish I could say the same for the food. Ribs were dry and, in my opinion, overly smokey. I didn't like any of their three sauces (described as "spicy, sweet, and mustard"). The mac and cheese was also dry and didn't have any discernible cheese. The beans were not home made, and I saw the Qmaster take potato salad from a large bucket and transfer it to a container of similar size, but this clear container was not marked, giving the illusion that when the container is removed from the fridge to add some to a basket, the potato salad appears home made. My husband said his smoked wings were "good". Not a ringing endorsement. Our server kindly gave us to-go cups for our sodas, which was very nice but when reviewing a place, service cannot ever trump the quality of product the server is selling.

Where do I begin? Lets see, I bought a Groupon for this place because its new, right around the corner from me and I love BBQ. I called in an order on a Sunday night and walked over 15 min later to find 3 women behind the counter. Two were on the computer discussing something, the other just milling about, none of them engaged me. Only after I told the 3rd that i had a take out order did the other two pull away from the computer only to realize they hadnt given my ticket to the kitchen (kitchen is a loose term here as Im pretty sure they dont make any of their stuff on site). I spend the next 15 min watching the cook piece together my order (pulled pork, sausage, turkey leg, every side) as he opened various warming trays and buckets of sides, none of it looking that fresh. When I finally got my order, I checked everything and realized they had forgotten an entire BBQ plate. Oops. Finally made it home where everyone was as disappointed with the food as I was with the experience. Dont waste your time here, seriously - the staff is clueless and the food sub par. Even with a very limited BBQ selection on the peninsula, I would never recommend Queology.

Not fancy, not nice, not even that great...except for one thing that gets them 5 stars, it's that great!!! Smoked wings! Good god they are the absolute best I've had and I eat a lot!
