Awesome new place!! Cozy smoking area in the back, beautiful walls, fantastic bar tenden, gooood wine, and yummy pharmaceuticals!

This place is pretty cool. I like the design of the bar, and there is a great outdoor area in the back. Another cool feature is the power and USB outlets on the front under the bar (like where the coat hooks are). I haven't had the food yet, but I have definitely enjoyed my time here just grabbing a few cheap beers. It is worth your time. I'm a fan. I'll update after I've eaten here.

Love this new spot! Tucked away on the east side of downtown, it's a diamond in the rough. Killer food for meat lovers and veggies. 3 big flat screens good music chill vibe and a great crowed. Also love the covered back patio. Definitely worth checking out!!!

Alright so this is a bit of an awkward gem. I haven't had the food here but the drinks are fine for a good dive bar and I like the decor. The bartenders aren't the fastest, but they're nice and the prices rock. The alcohol selection is sparse but you don't come here for a friggin' mojito or anything anyways. The clientle is an odd mix of hipsters, service industry and some people who like they could live in an alley...and not in the chic hipster way. But everyone I've encountered there is really really nice and when I've come into to see live music it's been awesome! I just moved to just a bit aways so it's a good possibility that this will be my new haunt for a bit. Plus the back patio with tiki torches is just what a girl needs foloowing a long day.

I've been here a couple of times now and while I don't think it'll become a regular spot for me, I still dig it. The food will totally surprise you! Everything I've tried has been awesome. The potatoes app, the tacos and even the boiled peanuts all have something special going on. The last time I went, I tried the watermelon salad special and it was unbelievable. They're doing some really awesome things in that kitchen for such a small divey-ish bar in a dicey part of town. Both times, service was super friendly and parking wasn't at all a problem. The crowd definitely was eclectic but I didn't find it to be at all hipster or pretentious in the least. I'll be returning, if only because I feel like I have to try one of their hot dogs I've heard so much about.

Wow. This place really is unlike anywhere on the peninsula. It will get an eclectic crowd (the hipster-prep is in full force along with super-dressed Charleston girls, but also neighborhood folks) that has no qualms about being in an area where not much else exists. (It doesn't feel bad on the outside as its well lit and has a lot of foot traffic). Not a dive at all, great HDTVs with multiple tuners, awesome hot dogs and great beer prices. Other nice touches: Has usb and chargers at every bar seat, uses an I-Pad for credit cards, which in all 500 bars I've been to in the last year is a first. Will definitely come back!

I will openly admit that my friends and I wanted to go to the Palace Hotel for our shot at getting a Shep Rose sighting. Not only did we get that, but we also left pleasantly surprised at the food and drink offerings at this little dive. From the outside, you don't know you are here. There is no sign that says The Palace Hotel or anything... just a white building in an area that you can't tell is sketchy or not. However, inside you'll find an amazing dive bar with friendly bartenders, a diverse clientele and great drink specials. My friends and I played the dice game with Shep and ended up taking way too many tequila shots - it happens I guess. We also tried the boiled peanuts and loved them. I'd definitely come back next time to try a hot dog, pulled chicken sandwich or something else on the menu. The food sounded amazing. Shep definitely hit it out of the park with this one. One comment - it was really hot in there - they said they were working on getting the AC fixed/installed? I can't remember. Once that is taken care of, this place will be pretty near a perfect place to spend an evening.

Incredible new place. Friendly staff, great food, good people. Got several items including the Kobe beef (Angry Tom) dog and everything worked. Great overall vibe.

The Palace Hotel is the best unknown spot on the east side of upper king. With ever changing fresh to table specials and the ever present Get Low Country Dog (Best hotdog in the southeast) it is a great place to enjoy the eccentric local crowd of east upper king.

I happened to dine here by complete chance. I was walking home, which is right around the corner from this place, and was approached by these two women looking for the Palace Hotel. They told me the address so I pointed them in the right direction. Being in an adventurous mood, I actually joined them in their search and ended up having a beer and a delicious hot dog with strangers. The bar menu is limited, but our server/bartender was super friendly. Discovering this place was a result of random circumstance, but I'm glad to know that there is a pretty cool bar with cheap, good hot dogs in my neighborhood and that their are people who welcome unknown individuals with open arms to their dinners. I'll definitely return to the Palace Hotel and share it with friends and strangers alike.

A funky experience and the food is way more than anything we expected. Fresh flavors, innovative plates, and one of the tastiest hotdogs I have ever had (this says a lot considering I grew up in Chicago!). Not too fond of the area this place is in, but once you're in the doors, it's truly an experience you'll never forget. It was also fun to see Shep stop in to check on how we were enjoying our time. A little hidden gem in Charleston.

Pretty sure I got a contact high walking from my car to the front door... So my perception may be a bit altered. The bartenders are really pretty, the champagne is good, they have cider. This is a nice place to hide out with a friend or just play pacman. The porch out back is smoker friendly, oppressively so. But I guess they need somewhere to go. I need to eat here to give a more thorough review. Interesting menu with the cheapest shrimp and grits I have ever seen. $8. I'll be back, maybe tonight.

Stopped in about 430pm. No one in here. Two beers cost $14. What a rip off. We are from the Bay Area and it's even more expensive here. Never again.

I absolutely loved this place. This summer I went on a foodie trip of Charleston and somehow this little dive bar turned out to be one of my favorite places. The hot dogs are bangin. I had a pimento dog and it was really incredible, I think pimento cheese is its own food group. I also tried a taco appetizer which was really creative as well. Don't come here expecting a giant menu, but what little they serve will be perfect! The drinks are pretty cheap and strong. My friend and I stayed for four hours hoping for a Southern Charm sighting (we missed them by one hour according to Instagram) and we had the best time chatting with all the regulars. I highly recommend this as an alternative to stuffier Charleston restaurants.

Just go in! You'll be pleasantly surprised. The inside is different than the outside and nothing on the outside let's you know that you really are at Palace Hotel. Once you're in, the menu is very limited. Several interesting varieties of hotdogs. We tried the Low Country and Angry Tom. Both very good. The waitress was my favorite - adorable, hipster, chic. It wasn't even that she was an amazing waitress, she just had a great personality and smile. It was quite a long drive for us, but if I lived in the area, I'd find myself back there on a regular basis.

I live one street away, that said I know the neighborhood. I ordered TWO DRINKS, and my tab was $18 plus tip; a seriously weak pour from a super pretentious bartender made things worse. Well drinks were $5.50. The crowd mostly consist of the bartenders friends; which explains any good reviews. There are a couple of tvs on to watch sports. Super lame. No parking, no place to even park your bicycle. Plenty of locals, waiting for you once you step outside tipsy. This was just not worth the effort, even a block away. Nice job making our neighborhood worse, I truly expected better.

Crazy eclectic place. My table is a door, too fun! I actually got to meet Shep, the owner and he is a pretty cool, laid back guy. The hot dogs are awesome. I never though going in I would order and eat a Korean style hotdog with kimchi on it, but it was so good. The place has classic video games in the back, great bartenders, great service, and they write your check on a sipral bound notepad. Thats awesome! Come and try it, the place is just eclectic and cool! The bathroom have two different sized doors so watch your head!!! You have to check this place out.

Cool bar. Bartenders are rude and undeserving of a job. I was ignored most of my time in the bar and when I was acknowledged the employees acted like I was bothering them. I tipped generously on every drink and did not deserve to be treated poorly. I hope the owner discovers how horrible some of the Bartenders are and replace s them
