We spent nearly $300 a night to stay here with a $50 credit and were happy to do so with our high expectations of what the hotel would offer. The hotel is located in the touristy part of Market Street. The stores are littered with junk, children are allowed to panhandle on the sidewalks, and the streets smell of horse poop and pee. I would never have stayed here had I been more familiar with the city. Since the hotel's site listed check-in at 3 p.m., I requested an early check-in at 10 a.m. and understood that it could not be guaranteed. The staff member mentioned that if the room was not available, we could make use of the rooftop pool. That idea sounded just as sufficient as getting into our room early so we did not fret about the issue again until our arrival at the hotel. The hotel's "taxi" partner is the most expensive car service in the entire town, charging $50 for a trip to the hotel (the normal, which we made our own accommodations for on the way back was closer to $30). The white SUV which picked us up was extrememly dated and had stained, old leather seats. Our driver, however, was extremely welcoming and offered a mini-tour as we traveled the 12 miles out to our hotel. The front desk told us they would call once a room became available. We decided to go with our plan B of changing and going to the rooftop pool. That's where the hotel experience slowly began to deteriorate, FAST. The hotel has many rooms, most of which accommodate 2-6 guests per night. We were shocked to find that only 12 lounge chairs were available at the pool upon our arrival at 10:00 a.m. TWELVE! Two of which were completely shaded. One family took up the entire back row, and no one was eager to give up their 3 saved chairs next to them for their friends or relatives that hadn't made it up to the pool yet. Feeling defeated we decided to order a drink to wait it out. Only problem was that the bar didn't open until 11:30. There were only 12 available towels, so we couldn't even grab a towel, take a dip, and then and sit at one of the 12-15 tables that were set up around the rooftop with a shaded umbrella. Around 12:30, we were able to stalk a couple who was leaving and jump at the opportunity to grab the two chairs they were giving up. We also simultaneously ordered lunch and a drink. The drink was really warm, and served in a classy plastic glass that should have been thrown out at the end of last season and was chipped on the rim (seriously these glasses MAY have cost a max of $2, if not purchased at the dollar store). The $15 sunriser was followed by a $17 poolside chicken salad and a $12 chips and salsa. When the salad came out, I literally laughed out loud. The 5 pieces of once-frozen chicken breast were beyond dry and sprinkled with pepper only. The avocado was not sliced, it was literally mush and turning brown; and the dressing, which we requested on the side, was drenched over every piece of soggy lettuce in the bowl. But even the salad was impressive in comparison to the chips and salsa. The STALE chips and not-even-tostitos-brand jarred salsa was a JOKE. When we complained we were told they could have the cook make a batch of fresh chips- UM, why didn't you do that the first time around? No, thanks. At 2:45 we went back to the front desk because we were dying to grab our luggage and explore the town. The front desk associate flat out lied to us saying that she had just "left us a voicemail not too long ago" . There was no voicemail, because she never called, but nonetheless she provided us with our room keys and told us that bell service would bring up our bags right away. An hour and two phones calls later, an extremely friendly, but overworked bellman arrived at our room. The room was not even the slightest bit impressive. The neutral carpet had a huge black stain where the windows were and smelled musty and sour. The beds were clean, at least, and comfortable. The Hermes products were the most awful smelling things I've ever had to use and the conditioner did not even begin to detangle my long hair. That night we were carded at the entrance 3 separate times to re-enter the building since they open the rooftop bar to outsiders. That was a nightmare, to say the least. In summary: the management is atrocious; the main bartender (an older, unpleasant, gentleman) called my friend "girl" when greeting her; the matron of the hotel who sat at the elevators gossiped with the main housekeeper in front of guests; the staff joked that they hated their jobs working on "the plantation" getting lashings for their bad behavior; and the GM introduced himself to every group at the pool on our last day to ask about their stay - passing up our obviously young looks to personally meet all those 45 and older, as we clearly weren't good enough for his time. If I had to offer advice, I would tell you to take your business elsewhere. This place is a pathetic excuse for top-of-the-line hotel service.

Just reviewing the rooftop bar. Hung out here before dinner at Grill 225. We were lucky enough to find seats at the bar as this place was packed. We ordered drinks and the lobster & calamari ceviche from the menu. The ceviche was so good; it came with blue corn chips. There were nectarine pieces in there as well as lemon grass strips, yum! It is beautiful up here; the views of the water and Charleston were beautiful. We were also in time for the sunset! We will definitely be back here for drinks!

This review is for the rooftop bar. Outstanding views and DJ'd music. Good amount of tables lined around the perimeter of the roof top to allow for optimized viewing. The drinks were good, albeit some were over priced (Raspberry Mojito $16?) The Food was, by far, the biggest disappointment. Duck nachos, Beef quesadillas, and shrimp cocktail , all had unusually bad taste and were priced above the marketplace pricing. This is something that can be fixed considering all the great food management talent in the marketplace.

Where do I begin? We arrived in Charleston for a short weekend getaway. It was our first time visiting so we were very excited. We arrived at the hotel and "apparently" JetBlue getaways didn't book one of our two rooms so we had to scramble to get a second room. Derek and I were given our keys to go up while my parents were dealing with getting the second room for them. After a 6 minute wait for the elevator (we later found out that one out of the two elevators were broken...read below for more on this and see photo) we were taken up to our room which was directly next to the elevator. We were okay with that although that wasn't too ideal, but then when we went to open our window to view our first views of Charleston, we discovered that our view was a brick wall less than a good away from the window. We went downstairs and my parents gave us their room and they were then "upgraded". Our second and final room was 75 degrees when we walked in and was being turned down for the night at 4pm. So we couldn't even relax in the room or sit on the bed because it was prepared for sleep. We went downstairs to talk about the air conditioning and my father also called downstairs on his own to see if there was anything that they could do, and off we went for a walk-in the hopes that by the time we got back, it would be fixed. We got back about two hours later to shower before eating at 225 grill and it was the same temperature as it was when we left! Taking a shower was useless because I immediately started sweating after it. I went down to the front desk and told them that I would rather sleep in the hallway and that's when they said they'd send someone up but they already checked and everything was fine. (They absolutely did not check because we later found out that the air wasn't working or on and they finally fixed it while we were eating.) The elevator ride that night after dinner was 15 minutes. The second elevator still wasn't working. Finally we said we were hotel guests and they threw us into the staff elevator. The rooftop bar is very popular and there are lines starting at 5pm. I even said to Derek that I was scared to leave the hotel room because then we'd have to wait for the elevator for who knows how long. Off we went on a walking tour the next morning. We were told by the hotel that it would be a max of 16 people but there were 24 people -We left after 45 minutes. The elevator still was not fixed and it was dreadful waiting for it to come down. That night we had a wonderful experience where we chartered a boat (I did this independently without the hotel) and when we got back we had a 20 minute elevator wait. Then that evening at around 3am there was a group of guys and gals drink and one girl was running back and forth on our floor crying and screaming-obviously drunk. Not the best way to end our last night in Charleston. Steak is good. Go there for dinner, but if you want a carefree trip, don't stay at this hotel. NAY: probably not best to stay here on a romantic getaway.

We only had drinks on the rooftop, but it was so much fun and chill. Definitely recommend.

Wow!!! Let's talk about that view-AMAZING!! I was surprised to walk on the roof and see a pool, a bar, lounge chairs, and high top tables! It was breathtaking! We were able to snag the last table and the DJ was super sweet to bring us our menus. The three of us ordered drink while we looked at the menu in hopes of sharing an appetizer. My drink was perfect-fruit and refreshing. We ordered a flatbread pizza to share and we all were extremely pleased with our selection! Our server, Andrew did a pretty good job. It was nice that the manager stopped by our table asking where we were from. He offered suggestions on other places to go for food and fun!! People were very nice about taking photos for us. The restroom was very clean. As we left and walking through the hotel lobby to exit, the smell of delicious food was overwhelming! The roof top experience is a must for out of towners!!

We met a friend at the hotel bar, the drinks were expensive but I wasn't surprised given the luxurious feel of the hotel, I was shocked that they charged me $3 for club soda after I had already paid for two cocktails. We ended the night at the rooftop bar, you have to stalk a table to get one but they are all on the permieter so they all have an amazing view of the city so it's worth it to hover; we even did our good deed and let another couple share out table.

Ahhhhhh....what a place . Rooftop bar and Tuna tower to die for more than enough for two people unless one is your wife, she said order your own! Great view of the city and harbor, special place to catch your breath on top floor of Market Pavilion

We didn't eat here; only got drinks. The offerings are somewhat limited, but when you have a view of downtown Charleston like this, I personally don't really care. I ordered a margarita. You have to be patient while waiting for a table, but again I think it's worth it. Go for the view and enjoy the atmosphere.

One of the finest establishments around. Rooftop bar offers great view of the Charleston Harbor and City of Charleston as well as Mt. Pleasant Patriots Point. The steak at Grill 225 is one of the best in the city. Highly Recommended.

Spent two nights at Pavilion this week. Great service hotel. Friendly staff helpful and always recognized the guests. The restaurant downstairs is a Charleston favorite and the rooftop bar offers the best views and ambience in the area. Coffee and pastries on your floor every morning save a trip downstairs or to Starbucks. Rooms are tasteful and a good value for Charleston historical district.

Second time here and ended poorly like the first. My wife, who is deaf, has a service animal which resulted in the entire restaurant staff not giving us service, blatantly. After presenting correct identification for our dog, we were still given discontent over our presence. Looks like a nice place but the staff definitely needs some work.

I stayed this weekend at the Market Pavilion Hotel. Once arriving they have very little space for you to pull up and valet your car but it works out just fine. The check in was easy peezy, and the staff was friendly. Like others have said they have 2 elevators which because of the massive lines for the rooftop bar can be kind of a pain if you simply want to go to your room. The room was nice. Beds are VERY comfy, and they have plenty of outlets for all of your charging needs. The showers were also nice as they had some great water pressure going on, I didn't really want to get out. The chamber maids were a bit peculiar when they rang the doorbell (yes, every room has a doorbell) and asked us if we needed the turn down service. 2 ladies that spoke very little English asking questions of guests turned a little awkward. Each floor has breakfast laid out every morning with nice muffins, pastries and coffee. They also have the NY Times available which was nice to have on a Sunday morning. The cost of the rooms are high, which is to be expected. What you get is a comfy room, and great location to all of the cool places in town.

This review is ONLY on the rooftop bar and it's my favorite rooftop bar in town! Yes, the drinks are pricy at $5/beer. In my group, we ordered Coors, Blue Moon, Guinness, and Mich Ultra--all $5 each. Beware that the beer is not served in real glasses. This may be a fairly recent change. I hadn't been there in over 6 months prior to last weekend and don't recall plastic cups in the past. The cups looks like pint glasses; they aren't red Solo cups. Also, my Blue Moons weren't filled to the top. This may be because they pour from bottles. Now that the negatives are out of the way... Of course, there is a fantastic view of the peninsula and Ravenel Bridge. Aside from that, you can actually TALK to other people. The pop music played is at a nice level. I much prefer being able to connect with people on a deeper level rather than have artificial small talk with a lot of different people. Last weekend was chilly in the low 50's and there was high glass railing to block the nippy wind. Had I known that previously, I may've frequented the bar over the Fall/Winter. I wouldn't call the wait staff overly friendly but they are not rude. If anything, they are efficient and attentive.

So I read about this place online and heard it was the place to be. It wasn't crowded Sunday night but the views were awesome! My sweet tea martini was good and the Chocolate cookie desert was on point! Make sure you sit in Raquel's section of the rooftop bar! She's amazing and was very delightful. Super informative and extremely friendly!

I am staying on the concierge floor at $600/night. Great view of the Ravenelle bridge and the custom house across the street and therein lies the rub. A marching band showed up at 11 pm and has been playing for almost an hour. Since I can't sleep and the hotel is powerless to stop it, I am ventilating. Last night, by the way , it was a drum corps. The rooftop bar is lovely but the lobby is full of drunk guys and snotty chicks every night. The elevators are full of drunk sweaty people every night. The room is clean and nicely decorated but I would rather have peace and quiet. But, if you can afford a room fit for a rock star and you party like one, this could be your place. It isn't mine

Great view. Only went for drinks. Pricy all the way around. And obviously a hot spot to hang out. Don't be surprised if you have your first few drinks standing while you wait for a table.

For the pavillion rooftop bar. Amazing views. The price of drinks is a bit high, but worth it for the ambiance. The service varies, but I've never witness a horrible service. If you have friends in town, it's worth taking them to see the city from birds eye view. It's nice to see all of the church roof tops. They also have heaters during the winter nights.

The wife and I stayed here for our wedding anniversary. What an awesome hotel in a great location and beautiful city. I'm a self proclaimed clean freak....ocd about all things clean and this hotel exceeded my expectations. They were very accomodating when I asked them to arrange for my wife's flowers to be in the room when we arrived, although one of the roses got broken. Not sure if the delivery person broke it or the hotel but not a big deal. The service of the room was top notch as well. Never ran out of towels and room was cleaned even when they came in for turn down. Kim the concierge was awesome! Even took a picture of the wife and I at dinner on our anniversary night at Grill 225, the restaurant inside the hotel. Speaking of Grill 225, this is a great fine dining experience. Thanks to Kim we were served complimentary champagne and then enjoyed a wonderful dinner. We both had filet and they were cooked and flavored perfectly. The rooftop grill and bar is a great experience as well. The view is the best in the city and the drinks although pricey, are great too. The location is right in the heart of everything, a short walk to the battery and all the beautiful scenery that is Charleston. Located right next to the market I thought it would be noisy but it wasn't. We hope to be back real soon!

I have not stayed at this hotel. However we went to grill 225, it's restaurant, last night. We were very disappointed in that they actively offer several differentlobster dishes and that was the primary reason to go there. At 830, they were already out of them and we were disappointed and decided not to stay. The hotel manager, Peter Wright, however this morning heard about this and went out of his way to find me on linked in. And asked me to reconsider his restaurant. We haven't eaten there yet. That will be tonite. But, I wanted to show this on the hotel yelp to show people what it is like when hotel mgmt understands the importance of good service. Thank you Peter.

Hotel was beautiful but the staff couldn't have been worse. First, they changed our reservation for two queen beds to one king and said there weren't any other two queen bedrooms available. They didn't have any cots and said they'd give us another room for $299 a night, thanks but no thanks. Then we asked the maid if she could get us a coffee cup and she replied that it "wasn't her job." For the amount of money you pay to stay in this place you would think the staff would go above and beyond to make their guests happy but that definitely was not the case.

Skip the $450/night prices at the poshest hotels in town and get a $200/night room rate here in the off season. The staff is very eager to please and perks abound. I unknowingly caught a special and got a $50 food/drink certificate to use on premises when I checked into the hotel. Valet parking, the norm for downtown hotels, runs $20. Hermes supplies the bath goodies. Complimentary New York Times are supplied, wifi is free, and the business "center"--a desktop- allows printing without for no charge. Rooms have a tub and a separate shower, and are spacious. The hotel is spotless and the hallways have an unidentifiable but distinctive smell that says "pampered." The theme of the decor (i.e., typical Charleston) is not my personal style but the rooms/halls/reception areas are very well appointed and maintained. There is a gym with free weights and exercise machines, and a rooftop bar that provides a neat vantage point from the epicenter of downtown, right above the historic Charleston market. In the morning, pastries and coffee are provided in the hallway by the elevator. There is no in-room mini-bar, safe, or i-phone/ipod player. The bed and pillows were as comfortable as any hotel in which I've stayed. In the shower, hot water was hot and unlimited and the water pressure was terrific. Back to my gift certificate... it didn't go far-- I got a glass of Veuve Clicquot ($23) and a tuna tartare tower app ($19). The tuna was good but the avocado in it was tinged brown, as though it had been pre-made some hours before and tucked in the fridge. I went elsewhere for my real dinner. I will be back to this property, no question! Note that several negative reviews on Yelp under the hotel's listing are by folks who have not stayed in the hotel and thus mis-filed-- they refer to the Pavilion Bar on the roof, not the hotel accommodations.

If you're looking for the feel of Europe without the jet lag the Market Pavilion Hotel is for you. Romantic, great food, hopping roof top bar with a view and a concierge desk ready and willing to fulfill your needs. 5 stars would have been easy to give to this beautiful hotel IF the fitness center we even slightly up to par. Don't get me wrong, if a lifecycle and treadmill are your requirements, go to town...but if you're looking for a true workout you won't be in luck. But do NOT let the fitness center keep you away! One doesn't travel to Charleston for fitness, we travel here for food, history and good ol' southern hospitality. Ask for JB at 225 Grill and enjoy one of the most professional and quality dining experiences you'll ever get. We will be back.

My husband and I chose the MP mostly because it had a pool, which seems a rarity in historic Charleston. The hotel was exquisite and staff was extremely accommodating. The property is within walking distance of all downtown attractions. We spent most of afternoons on the rooftop pool/ Pavillion Bar and luckily had $50 drink/ food coupons to spend on $15 mojitos that weren't even that great. The service was excellent and the waitresses were always checking in with us or even bringing by cold wet towels. Overall, if you are looking for an upscale hotel in the historic district, this is your hotel.

Went in person to book accommodations for the wknd on Thursday night. The gentleman who provided us rates and availability asked that we go online or call back to book the room we wanted because he said, "I've worked with better systems in my life than this computer system." We agreed to call. The bellhop also inquired about our plans and we discussed the great rate offering and the fact that we were switching to Market Pavilion. Called back Friday morning and, low and behold, the rates we were quoted had doubled! I explained that we wanted to book in person the previous night but were unable to--due to the desk attendant. That didn't phase today's attendant one bit. "Well our rates fluctuate daily but he could also have been mistaken." Why, if we definitely wanted the room/rate, would we be told to put off booking if they would likely change? What rubbish customer service! If you want a truly lavish experience Charleston Place Belmond can't be matched. Pavillion Bar is great but the hotel staff beneath it don't maintain the same customer experience.

I love staying here. It is really nice without being stuffy. I like staying on the concierge floor, food, drinks, available 24/7. The restaurant is topnotch , the pool/bar on the rooftop is really spectacular( only improvement I would suggest is they need hot toddies on cool days and nights, they don't do any "hot drink"). Hotel is more of a boutique style hotel, in a historic building. Located directly next to the market.

Truly an European hotel in the heart Of a great southern city. The staff was exceptional. The Suzann and Kim were more than helpful; Ravon was also great. Food was excellent with extremely large portions. I would advise sharing. Steaks were prime and wonderfully seasoned. Desserts were beautiful and sooooo great-- chocolate mouse is to die for. Rooftop bar and pool is a real treat. Rooms were huge with fabulous linens and elegantly decorated. I would suggest you book the concierge level. As an added bonus you receive a voucher for $50 a day for food or drinks to be spent at the hotel. We loved this hotel

After driving straight through from Milwaukee to Charleston, some friends surprised us by taking us out on the town to celebrate out arrival. First stop was the Market Pavilion Hotel's Rooftop Bar, where the staff greeted us and directed us to the table that had been reserved for us. The night was a bit chilly; but the hotel had plenty of heaters to ensure that everyone was comfortable. The view was wonderful. The rooftop pool looked inviting. The music, mixed by a DJ, was upbeat. Our server, I think her name was Lori, was waiting to take our cocktail orders. The cocktails arrived promptly. I had a margarita, which was delicious. I forget what everyone else had ordered; but everyone in our party was very pleased with what they ordered. We decided to order some food. Lori suggested the Duck Confit Nachos. We also ordered the Steak Quesadillas. Both arrived in a timely manner. It was explained to us, that the steak in the quesadillas was made up from the trimmings from the prime steaks that they serve in the hotel restaurant. Consequently, the steak in our quesadillas was some of the most tender that I've ever had! The Duck Confit Nachos were even tastier! You could tell that the cheese sauce was made from scratch... just the right amount of spiciness! Another nice thing about the nachos was that the tortilla chips were made of blue corn, rather than the usual yellow or white corn. I don't know if blue corn tortilla taste any better than the others; the difference was evident though, in the presentation.... the dark blue chips, with the pale creamy color of the queso cheese and the mouth watering duck on top! Delicious! While we were enjoying our cocktails, we had the opportunity to talk with the hotel manager, Peter Wright (not sure of the spelling), and the beverage manager, Gerald. Both were very friendly and made sure that we were pleased with everything. We all had a second round of drinks, and headed to our second location. We weren't staying at the Market Pavilion; but my friends and I were certainly treated as if we were guests of the hotel. If I'm ever back in Charleston, and need a hotel room, I wouldn't hesitate to stay here. If my experience at the bar is any indication of what my hotel experience would be like, It would probably turn out to be one of my best hotel experiences ever!

Our stay was great! We had a couple hiccups when we arrived: cars were parked on the whole block in front of the hotel so it was impossible to valet. At the same time that we were calling to complain, a valet flagged us down and said that he noticed we had circled the block a couple (3) times. He grabbed the keys and we went inside. At the desk, they told us to come back in an hour (we were early, they told us to come back at the actual check in time) and we were "guaranteed" our room. They should have picked their words more carefully. We arrived almost 2 hours later to our room not ready. After some suggesting, we were given a free round of drinks at the bar. Levi was very sweet. I'm not sure if he ever has a day off, but he's a great bartender and they're lucky to have him. The room was comfy, bathroom was spacious and turn down service is always a nice touch. Every employee we encountered was friendly and helpful. It is definitely a little pricier, but the service was worth it and the $50 food and beverage credit nightly was a nice touch. Location is great.

The staff was wonderful. The room, a corner L shape suite, was huge and the bed was perfect. The people couldn't have been nicer. Rooftop has great views of the water. If you're on the concierge level, you get tea time everyday and small sandwiches and cheese, wine and beer at night. Really a perfect place for a getaway

Sat at the top bar on the roof. Ordered 4 total mixed drinks for about $65 with tip...WTF?! I guess this place is "Old Charleston," and can charge a ridiculous amount. Lori, our waitress from GA, was sweet and caring. She gave us good service and recommendations. I really like the strawberry and kiwi mojito!

My friend and I visited the Pavillion Roof top Bar on a Saturday in October at around lunch time. We had a little sticker shock, but we were prepared based on what we knew. We had two Blue Moons and an order of the Duck Nachos. We left spending $16 pp before tip, which wasn't actually too bad. I don't know if it was because we were catching up for the first time in a while, the weather was perfect, we were at a roof top bar or their beer is special but they were hands down the two best Blue Moons we've ever had. I think Charleston makes things taste better! The duck nachos were $19, but they're worth it! The base is a bed of blue corn tortillas that are served warm and crispy. The duck goes on next. It's cooked to a crisp perfection and then served covered in a slightly spicy queso. My nose was definitely running a bit from the spice. But, it was well worth it! Our server left a little bit to be desired. He was slow to check on us and the one water refill we got was forced. However, the atmosphere made it hard to be anything but happy. If you're visiting and treating yourself, I'd defintiely recommend a visit!

If you are looking for a elitist atmosphere with overpriced drinks, a feeling that money is the only way to get respect and bouncers with over the top attitude complexes, this is perfect for you. This restaurant and hotel sells itself as a better life but it really isn't. If you don't have a collared shirt, you can't walk in. If you have sandals, you can't walk in but your date can. There are so many better upscale places that will treat you with more respect in Charleston than this. If you want a roof top bar, go to The Library at Vendue. You will have a much better time. Or Henry's.

I did not stay here, but had drinks both at the lobby lounge and at the rooftop lounge. The ambiance of both is great....the lobby bar is full of nice wood and southern style furnishings while the rooftop bar is modern/stylish and ample. Great views of the river and the historic district from above. All staff seemed very friendly and eager to please. A great spot ....right by the City Market.

We love hanging at the hotel bar just to the left of the front door. Perfect spot for people watching and sipping on Nitrotinis. The service here is always solid and the vibe just right. With the full menu available, we've noshed on shrimp cocktail and Caesar salad, both scrumptious. And the Pavilion Roof top Bar affords a perfect view of the lovely city.

$500 a night, you get what you pay for, if you use it. As you get to your room, yes a doorbell on the outside. Umbrella awaits your arrival in the closet with housecoat and slippers. Fuji waters (no charge). Average size room and bathroom, by the way there is scales if you need to know your weight. Fruit tray right outside your room. Try the off season would not mind it for $200-250 per night. If you stay look into the added value for a price for free snacks and wine in the afternoon. Did not find out about this until we had checked in. Maybe with this the room would be worth the price. Oh almost forgot the bellman is amazing, I do enjoy his humor.

Review is for the hotel! We paid $450.00 a night for a decent room and great location it's the only thing this hotel has to offer. Oh and nitrogen martinis in restaurant downstairs! Lol. Our view was literally looking at cars less than a foot from our window and we were on second floor. I could basically open the window and touch the car parked. The service from housekeeping is horrendous we only had turn down service once out of 3 nights!! They never picked up the garbage not even the stale cookies from the one night of turn down service. The elevator was down and made line so long luckily we could take the stairs. They should have opened up the service elevator to the public, but they didn't even consider it. I actually took service elevator to our friends floor and was scolded by a Hskpr. The elevator still wasn't fixed when checking out a few days later. Keep in mind rooftop is popular so made it a mess for people who couldn't take the stairs on higher levels or had bags to carry. I think there is better hotels for the money!!

Loved this place!!! It was in a fantastic location, the rooms were clean, comfortable, and roomy, the staff was super friendly and accommodating, and we loved the morning coffee & pastries on each floor for breakfast. Such a treat!!! The rooftop bar was also awesome! Great view, atmosphere, and cocktails. I would absolutely stay here again & recommend it to anyone!

The Good: My husband abhors rooms with connecting doors. Seriously will throw down about it. We requested a room without connecting doors when we booked, but as with most hotels, this request is rarely heeded. We got up to our room, saw the door and called down for a new room, which was quickly provided. We always seem to forget to ask if the room is a connector when we check in. You would think I would remember considering how many times I've sat in hotel hallways waiting for a staff member to come up and help us to a new room, but I don't. We received $50 vouchers for each night to utilize at their bar and restaurant, which we gladly did. Turn down service was a fun luxury I have never watched before. We happened to be in the room when the housekeeper arrived to do it, and she was meticulous in her duty. There was an in-room safe. I love safes. Fantastic service from every staff member. I love when people actually act like they care about their jobs and want to make their patrons happy. There were doorbells for each room. For some reason this seemed extra fancy and made me deliriously happy. Potty phone. If you are still going to bother with a land line, it best be while you are doing the potty dance. The location is prime for anyone hoping to stay within walking distance of downtown Charleston's attractions. The Not So Good: Our view was of the parking lot. Not gorgeous, but I did learn how they bring the valeted cars up onto their deck. They have a car elevator. Who knew? On Saturday evening, we called down to order from the to be expected overpriced room service menu. They were out of at least one ingredient for every dish we requested. When I finally asked her what they might actually have on the menu, the operator stated that because it was Restaurant Week, they were out of many options because they had so many reservations that night for Grill 225. The kicker was that our order would have taken an hour to be delivered all the way up to third floor. Sounds like poor planning to me. We canceled our order and went to Slightly North of Broad instead. They were also in the middle of Restaurant Week but had no problem fitting us in without a reservation at their chef's table.

We have stayed here about 5 times and each time this hotel has been consistent in its great service and room. They have a great bar restaurant on the roof and even in the hot weather it always seems cooler up there. They serve coffee on every floor in the morning with the most delicious pastry I have ever tasted. The only down side is that they serve your drinks on the roof bar in plastic cups because of the pool being close by. This place is close to everything downtown and don't forget to take in a River Dogs game (The Yankees Single At Team) its a fun nite and only costs a couple bucks. Your kids will love it as much as you.

We stayed here for 3 nights. What can I possibly say. If you are up in the air about staying here, STOP. Book your room and thank yourself later. The staff was phenomenal in everything from the valet to the waitstaff at the pool/bar on the rooftop. I will recommend this hotel to all of my friends. It is simply the best in Charleston.

We have stayed here four years running. We have had stellar service and wonderful rooms. We have never, ever experienced the unfortunate situations that some of the reviewers had. I don't understand what happened to them. We have drinks at the Pavillion Bar and the bartenders are terrific. Friendly and quick to serve. I think one is Jr. Way to go. The downstairs Grill 225 is the ultimate best. JB is our favorite wait staff person. Steaks are over the top. We will be back again this year and are looking forward to the friendliest staff and service we have had in the previous years. It keeps us coming back. We could stay at any other place, but we get treated so well here, why bother. Our rooms are always clean and very comfortable. Love the coffee/tea and French pastries in the morning. Complimentry of course. If we don't continue to have the best experience, we sure hope that those in charge will do their utmost best to correct any issues we may encounter.

I have been coming to this bar for 10 Years! I Was told tonite that my sandals were not up To dress code! Let's see: IT IS CHARLESTON And it's 100!!! Also expensive Steve Maddem Sandals And line pants! But blue jeans and sneakers We're fine for some type of people. I was told by doorman that my problem was not enough To call the manager. I called her on the phone and REBECCA, let me know that my years of patronage And money were not worth her ime and Tried to hang up on me. I will never go there again and I would advise the Same to anyone else.

Did not stay in the hotel but I did visit the rooftop bar which I must say is pleasantly beautiful! Tall fire pits next to every table keeps you toasty on a cool night. Beautiful pool and a very nice bar. Very pricey though for such mediocre food and drinks. I only ordered an appetizer because the limited rooftop menu only offered sandwiches which were too costly, and $22 (or more) salads! My appetizer was $19 and my martini was $13! Chips w/ salsa cost a whopping $9! My appetizer of Satay Shrimp was nothing to write home about...beautiful display of shrimp (4 jumbo shrimp) but short on flavor with a side of diced fruit which tasted like refrigerator (?) which is the best way I know how to describe the flavor...I guess like freezer burn. Not so good salsa cost me $5 with a side of blue tortilla chips for $4...blah! (didn't know you could go wrong with chips and salsa. My Martini was tasty but not $13 tasty...especially seeing as how I had stopped in at a little dive bar on the way, and ordered the exact same drink (but tastier) for $3! Maybe it tasted better because it was only $3? Anywho, I never mind spending money as long as it's worth my while and this just wasn't. $65 bucks for nothing memorable!2 stars for beautiful spot but the food is not worth the price!

High gilt frame decor might turn off some but I found it a welcome vacation. The food and drink on the fourth floor at breakfast and tea time was a constant delight. Staff friendly. Location lovely. Room large and comfortable. Only downside: workout room from 1981.

We just came back from a long weekend in Charleston at the Market Pavilion hotel. It is a very nice hotel in a great location with nice amenities, but just seems to be missing in some ways. Pros: Location Doormen were extremely friendly and helpful welcome email a few days before our visit asking to help us with reservations Front desk staff very friendly Valet parking beautiful rooftop bar Cons: Unfriendly bar tenders in the Pavilion bar NONE of the heaters on the rooftop bar work (?!) water for tea was never hotter than luke warm Some of the staff was extremely warm and friendly and tried to help in any way they could. Others (mainly bartenders) were overly pretentious. The bar area seating (3 small tables plus some stools at the bar) were full, but they had a couple of comfortable chairs with a small table just outside the bar area so we sat there. Several times we tried to get the attention of the guy who was waiting on the bar tables and he very obviously refused to look at us. We finally asked a waiter from the restaurant as he was going by if we could get service there and he said no, you can only get service if you are seated at one of the actual bar tables so we would need to go to the bar. When we did go to the bar, the bartender acted like he was doing us a favor by serving us at all. They should be going out of their way to make us want to come back, but they didn't. In fact, it turned us off so much that we decided not to have dinner at the steak house there. The valets and the porters on the other hand couldn't have been more helpful. We had drinks at the rooftop bar the first night and they have beautiful heaters beside every table. It was chilly out so we asked if they would turn our heater on. We were told that ALL of the heaters were broken! I think that the starters on the heaters might be broken, but they need to learn how to light them with a lighter! We didn't go back up there after that experience. They have a really nice happy hour in the concierge lounge with beer/wine/champagne and appetizers. It is a really nice champagne and the appetizers were all excellent. You could have easily made a meal from them! They also have a nice breakfast but being a tea drinker, there is nothing worse than luke warm water for tea, and that is all I was ever able to get there. So net, it's a really nice hotel that is just missing being a great hotel. When we go back we will probably try another option.

Just did a few nights here, being a regular patron of the Leading Hotels of the World, there is a level of service we've come accustomed to and this place didn't disappoint us at all, everyone seemed friendly and helpful. It does help to keep a few fives and singles folded and ready to grease the wheels but in a few cases it wasn't wholly expected. The downstairs bar is well stocked although the rooftop bar a little less so, the $50 food and beverage voucher got us started in the right mood. I would have enjoyed the pool a bit more if it were just a tad warmer but the windbreaks definitely made the roof a big draw. We stayed on the concierge level which came in handy with 24 hour access to sodas and water in the parlor that served continental breakfast and afternoon hors d'oeuvres daily. The location couldn't be better, across the street from the 'straw market' and the French Quarter a few short blocks the other direction with easy access to the water. .

During a recent stay at The Market Pavilion Hotel in Charleston, South Carolina I was rather surprised by the treatment I received from the hotel staff. The Market Pavilion Hotel's membership as a Leading Hotel of the World and its rating as a AAA four diamond hotel lead to certain expectations for levels of service. My recent stay is actually one of the worst hotel stays that I have ever experienced and leads me to question the rest of the members of Leading Hotels of the World. I have stayed in hotels from Fujairah to Curacao and hundreds within the US. I typically stay in small luxury hotels such as Hotel Providence in Providence, Rhode Island or the Waldorf Astoria, but I do stay in large brand name hotels such as the Ritz Carleton from time to time. I search out hotels excelling in customer service and will rarely make a reservation that is not at the club or concierge level when it is available. None of the hotels I have named are members of the elite group "Leading Hotels of the World", but the Market Pavilion Hotel is. I was appalled by several things which should never have occurred in a hotel of this level. This hotel has numerous issues, from poor customer service and a complete lack of managerial ability on the part of the General Manager and Behind Desk Manager to poor cleanliness standards. The first and foremost issue I experienced upon arrival was the restaurant service at the Pavilion Bar. It took over 30 minutes for me to be seated which I can understand, but it was another hour and a half before I was brought a menu and another beverage. The older couple sitting by me waited for over an hour for a pair of cocktails. We couldn't even get the attention of any of the staff members to complain which was further compounded by the "Free-for-all" seating style adopted by the Pavilion bar. Had any of us gotten up to go find a manager, we would have lost our table to any of the 20 people waiting for seats. I called down to the first floor Concierge to inquire about reservations at the Grill 225 located in the hotel. The response from the Concierge was "there's no way you're getting in there until early next week." In my experience there is a very fine line between being sassy and being rude. While playful banter is fun and appreciated, I have never stayed at a hotel where it was acceptable for hotel staff to be blatantly rude to a hotel guest, especially when that guest is a concierge level guest. It seems that the above issues are all common place and acceptable at the Market Pavilion Hotel. When I went to the front desk to ask for a manager to complain, after introducing myself, I was told that the manager on duty was one of the food and beverage managers and that they would have him contact me in my room as they were un-available at that time. If that's not enough of an issue, when I received the phone call in my room it was by a young man named Grant who introduced himself as the Behind Desk Manager. In addition to being a different person that I was told I would be talking to, Grant provided no useful input to the situation as the only course of action that he volunteered was to apologize for my inconvenience and offer to tell someone else in management. At that point in my stay, I was sufficiently annoyed that I started writing my review. I went to the Concierge lounge where Hour-devoirs were being served to write while I sipped on a glass of wine. When Mr. Gary Cohen the General Manager came up, he did not shake my hand, introduce himself or even acknowledge my presence when he walked within two feet of where I was seated. As I found out later from Suzanne, he was there to find out who Mr. Cochran was and why he was complaining to the front desk manager. Anyone who is not appalled at this point will find it interesting to know that this all occurred during the first 36 hours of my stay. I was in residence for 5 nights and at the time that this is written a week after I checked in to the hotel, I have still not been contacted by Mr. Cohen or anyone able to offer a better explanation that "Im sorry for your inconvenience." Further issues with the hotel were noted during my stay. The "cascading pool" had large amounts of dirt on the bottom and hair floating throughout the pool. There were no pool towels available on the pool deck when I went swimming despite the hotel claiming that ample pool towels were provided for the use of guests. Nowhere did I see any indication that the Market Pavilion Hotel should be included in the Leading Hotels of the World other than in the concierge parlor. I strongly recommend that all reviewing agencies put this hotel under intense scrutiny. I strongly advise any travelers venturing to Charleston, SC to stay at one of the other amazing properties in the area and stay as far from the Market Pavilion Hotel as possible, it will only ruin your experience. If you insist on staying, stay on the concierge level and tell Suzanne that Ken Cochran sent you.

Just spent 4 days here on a journey through the Southeast. Our room was excellent for the price. Very comfortable with a nice bed-key for me- and every other aspect was delightful. It is a little strange to walk through the bar and restaurant to get to your room, but everything else is wonderful. For the price, this is a great spot convenient to the heart of Charleston, and walking distance to most everything. This is a mpdern hotel so it is very comfortable, with great beds and linens and space that you don't find in period hotels. It was a joyu to wake up and find freshly brewed coffee and a pile of fresh pastries on our floor. We didn't eat at the 225 restaurant, but it looked very good. We spent several hours on the rooftop bar and really enjoyed it. Our room reservation came with a $50/day credit toward food and booze, so I splurged on the $19 nitrotinis a couple days, and the $24 filet kebab appetizer. Don't think I would do the nitrotinis on my own nickel, but the filet was a meal and a darn great one. I definitely recommend it despite its cost. All of the staff was helpful and attentive. I would not hesitate to stay here on my next trip to Charleston.

okay, another first for me today. can't believe that there isnt a review for this hotel. i think because so many patrons are older and dont use yelp. this hotel is one of the best. right in the heart of charleston, great restaurant in lobby and at rooftop bar. the bar is a great place to be period. my children loved everything about the market pavilion hotel. the rooms are pure luxury and the pastries/breakfast served at certain levels is fabulous. its everything you would want in a small hotel and more. splurge and stay here.
