I can not say enough great things about our stay at the King George IV Inn- what a gem of an inn located in downtown Charleston. When I was looking for a place to stay in Charleston, I was surprised that a B & B was one of the best priced places in the whole city- and it was worth every penny. I would recommend this place to anyone- Charlene was fantastic. She cooked our breakfast every morning, provided excellent Charleston & restaurant recommendations, and made our stay perfect. Our room was beautiful- we stayed in Room #5- which had a small kitchen w/ a fridge, a full size bed w/sitting area, two closets, full private bathroom, and a shared balcony with the room next door. The room was spotless and well cared for during our entire stay. I will certainly be staying here the next time I come to Charleston- don't look any further for a great place to stay!

we were traveling without any advance reservation and stopped at the Charleston Visitor Center . they were terrific help and we got a room at a very reasonable rate. Room 5 is the best. sitting room, queen bed, kitchenette, old fashioned tub. would definitely stay here again. only complaint was breakfast was mediocre. scrambled eggs and bacon self served. got the same at chain hotels. Staff was very attentive and friendly.

I'm so glad that we found this bed & breakfast! I can't gush enough about this place. This was our third stay here and that's saying something. Room 5 is our favorite room: it has a small kitchen, private balcony, and roomy bathroom. Room 6 is nice too, but I felt the bathroom was too small (no counter space). It's beautiful at Christmas, though. When you arrive, Terry (the owner) will sit down with you and give you a map of downtown Charleston. He highlights all the hot spots and what to avoid so that you can make the most out of your visit. I really appreciated that! He told us about Christophe's and I can't thank him enough! The location is great; minutes away from all the places to see. We never drive anywhere when we stay here, so bring some good walking shoes if you want to see Charleston at a different perspective. From here to the Battery is about a 10-15 minute walk. The housekeeping staff is the best. Charlene is a sweetheart! We had the pleasure of chatting with her during breakfast one morning. And I for one am a huge fan of the breakfast. Terry does a fantastic job with his made to order omelets. The breakfast area is always available, so I found that nice when we were out late and wanted a quick snack when we returned. Also, each room has it's own journal that contains entries from past occupants. They highlight places to try and places to avoid. So, make sure you submit your own entry! This is definitely our go-to bed & breakfast anytime we're in Charleston. It definitely makes you feel like you're in a different time, where time slows down and southern hospitality shines.

We love to stay in historic buildings and dine family-style with other guests in a cozy breakfast room, especially in a beautiful old city like Charleston, so the King George was perfect for us. The owners and staff of this place are amazing--after only two days we felt like part of the family. A very relaxed and relaxing place, with lots of character. The inn is very well located, and everywhere we wanted to go in downtown was walking distance. We can't wait to go back!

Staying in an old house turned B&B ran by a couple with over 15 years of ownership under their belts is just what you'd expect to find in Chuck Town. Well, by golly, we struck gold with this joint. Owner, Terry, and his wife have a wonderful operation with plenty of cozy rooms outfitted to feel like an early 1900's-style living room. Talk about southern living. We stayed in room 3. Second floor, gigantic shower, tons of lounge space, and one of the most comfortable beds I've ever slept in away from home. My wife and I agree that we wish we had that bed in our home. Giant four-poster with a mammoth mattress. Me likey, me want. Breakfast is cooked fresh by Terry and served promptly at 8:30 every morning. Not a bad deal when you need to forgo an expensive Chuck Town breakfast elsewhere. Oddly enough, this place has some of the more competitive rates we saw around town. Take a look as I'm sure they'll fluctuate, but they seemed to be much lower comparatively. Beware of the small parking situation they have out back. If you're driving a gigantic SUV, you'll have to cram in. Maneuvering with pilot precision required. Next time we find ourselves in the historic district, we're staying here.

This place was great! We couldn't find a hotel in Charleston under $300 a night and this place offered a great deal! We stayed in a room that shared a bathroom but with a sink and mirror in the room, it wasn't a big deal at all! The breakfast was just what we needed to start our day and spend our calories and money on lunch and dinner and the delicious food at Fleet Landing. We highly recommend this place to anyone staying in Charleston. The location couldn't have been beat! We will definitely return.

Very clean and very close to all of the downtown action. You will park your car and walk to everything. This is an original single row home that gives you the feel for the rich history of Charleston. The hotel has its own history, just ask the staff! Breakfast is good, eggs, bacon, sausage each morning with fresh fruit, English muffins, bagels, yogurt, cereal.....something for all tastes. Ms. Charlene is a wealth of information about where to visit, eat and how to get around. We found the road out front to be a bit noisy but that will be anywhere you go in the city. The inn has ear plugs in the breakfast room as well as snacks out at all times. Sodas and water are available for $0.50 each. Our room had its own bathroom, a mini fridge and kitchenette area. It's room 6 and is probably cleaner than any hotel or B&B I've ever stayed in. We took our bikes and highly recommend it for touring the city streets, however we didn't see any other tourists on bikes so doesn't seem really popular. See my other reviews for stuff to do in Charleston.

What a charming and quaint B&B! Beautifully restored 250-year-old house, well decorated rooms, and we loved the period furniture. Terry was helpful and informative and helped make our stay wonderful! We stayed in Room 7 with a shared bathroom with Room 8. But having your own sink & mirror in your own room is very convenient. Also, the most comfortable bed you will ever sleep on! We will definitely return!

The staff is very friendly!! My Mother and I stayed here (with her service dog) Terry and Debra-the owners were very attentive and are genuinely great people. The B and B is so beautiful and authentic. I feel like I'm in the 18th century. Great location....in the heart of Charleston!! You can't beat the price either:) a must stay!!

Couldn't have asked for better. This is a great B&B. We stayed in room 7 and shared the hallway bathroom with room 8. We had no issues with this whatsoever. Loved the atmosphere, the breakfast, the owners, and the price. Will definitely stay here again next time we're in Charleston.

Really beautiful b&b, really fantastic location. The owners were wonderful - on our first day we were sat down and had a long discussion about things to do and where to eat in Charleston, given some cookies and coffee, and coupons for a few restaurants. Room was beautifully decorated, and we especially loved having our own little balcony and staircase. Really great price! I am removing just one star for the same thing that the other reviewer mentioned - compared to other b&bs, breakfast could have been better. The eggs were really good (scrambled with sun-dried tomato and red peppers!) but the bacon and sausage and waffles were all microwaved. Of course, still better than what you might get at a motel, and the company was fantastic - really nice conversations over the breakfast table with other nice couples. Overall a fantastic b&b!

We found the King George through the Visitor's Center and got a great rate as a last minute rental. Very convenient to downtown, nice, clean, private, great breakfast, nice staff, and a great rate as a last minute special on Friday night!

I might have a higher rating if we didn't have to share a bathroom, but for 129 a night, the location can't be beat. Skip the breakfast that is provided (microwave bacon and a tray of scrambled eggs?) made that mistake the first day. The second day we headed out and went into a city that has such great food options. Say hello to Hominy Grill for me. yaow! The water pressure in the shower went from cold and soft as a kitten spitting to hot and razor sharp, removing all the skin. But, the room was comfortable and the location was key. Just between king and meeting on george, with a parking lot in the back. I would stay again, but would want my own bathroom (many of the rooms do have their own, but space was limited due to the festival in town).

I stayed at this inn for one night as a solo traveler. It is not a luxury B&B, but my room was beautiful and the service was fantastic. It is not particularly close to the battery/White Point Gardens, Waterfront Park, or Market areas, but it is definitely close enough to walk easily. Apparently there is also a shuttle that can pick you up, but I prefer to walk when in Charleston. I would stay again and would absolutely recommend this inn to solo travelers, business travelers, and travelers on a budget.
