I love this place. Yes, the service can be slow, as many others have mentioned. But, overall it is still a good experience and the food is always fantastic. It may seem like you're paying more for food but that's because you are. You're eating out on Daniel Island, what did you expect, McDonalds prices? It's worth it. Get any of their benedicts. They are all yummy.

Ordered eggs benedict-English muffin was so hard that I had to ask for a steak knife to cut through it. Wobbly table and slow service.

My family moved to the island and one of the first places we frequented was Honeycomb Café. The omelets are out-of-this-world! They have a chef that only does eggs; and he's been making variations of the little things for 25 years. Also, the selections with their pork chili are home-runs for those who embrace spices. Even a coffee or tea with their spectacular beignets is a reason to come here. Don't be thrown off by the decor this place pumps out great dishes.

This is a great local breakfast diner. Typical American fare. Serves lattes and barista style coffee drinks. Friendly staff. Has some outside seating when weather permits. I eat here all the time for breakfast, but not lunch so I can't speak for their lunches. And kid-friendly. My children love their pancakes.

5 stars for food quality 1 star for service. Service is sooooo slooowww. I'm never one to write a review, but this place could be so much better. I'm not sure where the problem stems, but I do know that whether you go within the hour of opening or around 10, you still wait 30 minutes on food...Or more, but I'm trying to be fair bc the foods great! If you're in a hurry, honeycomb is NOT for you. It always takes us an hour and a half whether it's just me and my mom, or 6 of us. It's worth a try. I always get the daily double. Eggs over medium, potatoes extra crispy, toast (sometimes I opt for biscuit and then order a side of sausage gravy), bacon well. And a side of the green pork chili. IT IS A MUST if you like a little heat. Only once have my potatoes been crispy and my bacon well. On Mother's Day, my order was forgotten, so I waited while everyone ate. I finally got my food and my order was wrong. That was annoying. Not to mention only the eggs were fixed. I was still stuck paying for a bowl of grits that I didn't touch. I am a forgiving soul. But I would've loved to see this review before I went... Just so I knew what I was getting into. Great food, service needs a loooooot of help. If you're from the south, you'll love the sausage gravy. I'll keep returning when I have that much time. I encourage everyone to try it ONCE! 8/23/15: Unfortunately, I'll never return to honeycomb. After countless hour-long waits for an egg wrap and a waffle, after countless times of the waitress/kitchen getting my order wrong, and after countless horrible visits never being directed to a manager or given a discount or even and IM SORRY, this place doesn't deserve my money. Daniel island or not, a child getting a waffle instead of a pancake shouldn't double the price of an entree. One ramekin of chili shouldn't cost me $4.50. When I ask for something crispy, I want it $!?&@:;$& crispy. I don't want to sit down, order, watch people walk in, and then 45 minutes later watch them inhale their food while I'm still waiting on mine to come out wrong. Forget this place. Don't waste your time.

40 bucks for breakfast for two people? Ouch... The food was comparable to Denny's. Nothing out of the ordinary. My eggs were a little "dirty" (had bits and pieces of what ever was cooked in the pan beforehand), which isn't a huge deal, but if I'm going to pay $40 for breakfast for two people then I expect a little more. The bacon was actually really good - I was told they were known for that. I have had the denver burrito before on a separate trip and it was fabulous. I'm not sure if my husband and I just came on a bad day, but we were disappointed in our meal for the high price. Our waitress was very sweet and apologetic for how hectic it was and for the long wait we had for our food (50 minutes for breakfast food? Yikes). They didn't have anyone working the hostess stand and there was not a "seat yourself" sign so there was sort of a mass of people waiting to be told what to do. Eventually my husband and I just went and sat at a table and had them bus it after we sat down. I would come here more often if it wasn't so expensive and I knew I wasn't going to have to wait almost an hour for my food. If we end up going again, I'll be sure to update my review accordingly. Until next time...

The food was very good just took too long to get it. We waited 40 minutes for our food so plan on a leisurely breakfast/brunch.

When the Family Circle Cup tennis tournament was in town, the hotel shuttle didn't leave Daniel Island, so I was left to choose a place to eat on the island. Dropped off nearby, I saw a sign on the sidewalk that said this place was open. I had a hamburger. It wasn't the best I have ever had, but it wasn't bad either. The service was great and the staff was very friendly and courteous. If I were in town again, I would return to eat here.

It's really a shame that I feel compelled to write a review of this establishment, however I wanted others warned so they are not throwing away their money like I just did. My husband and I were so excited that a breakfast cafe opened up on Daniel Island because breakfast options are extremely limited in the area. We used to frequent it, but after several visits we decided that the food was subpar, and not improving, and it was expensive for what you got, so we stopped going. Today a friend and I were looking to have some coffee and a bite so we decided to give Honey Comb Cafe another shot. What a mistake. We were seated right away, no problem. We caught up with each other for awhile (about 20 minutes) before either one of us noticed that we had no coffee or water yet and that we had had absolutely no service. So we waited another few minutes before I finally got up and went to seek some help. The three waitress were milling around the front counter doing seemingly nothing and I felt as If I was intruding, but I didn't care, I asked for some service. After another 10 minutes someone came over with coffee and water (1). And we ordered because I was not about to let her leave. We waited 45 minutes for an egg sandwich (with no cheese?) and a egg white wrap. No refills, no visit from staff...nothing! And trust me when I tell you, they were not busy. The egg sandwich was dry and tasteless, the wrap had big hunks of eggshell in it! Honest to God, it was the worst experience I have ever had in a restaurant! One final note: A couple came in after us and were also frustrated. She apparently ordered pancakes with her eggs, but never received them. So when she inquired about them, she was told that it would take 20 minutes for them to make. Needless to say she declined the wait. Also a young mother came in with her baby and had to seek out staff to be seated and to get service. She told us that she had had this experience before. My friend and I looked at each other and wondered why she had returned. Please do not waste your money and/or your time at Honeycomb Cafe. Eating cereal at home is a much better option.

Breakfast on the Island. Honey Comb is in a smallish retail front with a large dining room area. Lots of glass as they're in the end spot. I went with the ham and cheese omelet and that part was rather boring. Chunked up ham into a folder egg. Meh. The grits, however, were excellent. Thick and creamy, only slightly salty. Perfect. I wasn't in a rush but I didn't want it to take all day. Getting my order took a while, the food was prepared fast, and then getting a check took a while. My coffee mug still had lipstick on it - I know this stuff is very difficult to remove, but it threw me off in a big way.

Good food and customer service. Terry helped me out well, with a smile on her face the entire time. The Grits are fantastic, I could have eaten three more plates. I had the Salmon Benedict special which was very good. Add a side of fruit and I was loving it. All three I highly recommend. The cost was ridiculous though for a person at breakfast...$27 after tip is too much. I also wasn't a fan of the coffee:/ none the less, I will be back since the food was good, the people nice, and someone else better pay:)

There are not many breakfast choices on Daniel Island so our decision to go this morning prior to the Walk for the Cure was simple. This little family operation had the look and feel of that. Our hostess was also our service and that did not minimize service at all. She was on top of my coffee refills like no other. Big kudos to that. Food...hmmmm...food. - I had an egg white, feta and spinach wrap on a whole wheat wrap and wow was it good. There are a number of options including build your own omelette and gluten free options as well. It is a quaint place where you can even get a pumpkin latte. Overall, such a nice experience there this morning.

Sad to see negative reviews. I've eaten here many times. Feel like this is THE best breakfast in all of Charleston. Ate here again this morning. Service was perfect. Place was busy as I'd expect at 11 am on a Sunday morning but we got sat quickly and everything came out faster than I'd expect. The coffee drinks are amazing and the Caramel Macchiato my favorite! Food was perfect. We watched all the food come out to the tables around us and it looked spot on. We listened to the table beside us telling each other about how amazing their breakfast was. The place is so good and as I've said before . . . BEST BACON EVER.

It saddens me to have to share this and I have waited till now in hopes things would change. I have been coming to honeycomb since they opened and have been dozens of times. I love breakfast and really wanted this place to make it being the only place on Daniel island serving breakfast. Every time I come I see different faces and believe the servers lack leadership. The food is so so with some very good grits and wonderful bacon , eggs are eggs. The biscuits seem reheated and always hard and the gravy on the biscuits , we'll my friend summed it up " looked like someone got sick" the gravy on the biscuits had large chopped onion in it. I have never seen / had chopped onion on biscuits and gravy in the south, maybe that's just me! If you won't jelly you can only have one flavor and is spooned from a jar in a cup ( very small amount ) three of the times I asked for jelly I got ketchup ? I would even rate higher with the exception of the service . I have been enough to know it's the norm . I see people wait 15 minutes for a cup of joe. I know when they walk out they must be saying " I won't be back " I agree with some of the other stories listed here as I see it time and time again . My recommendation to the owners is go to west Ashley to the berry patch and observe and copy. It all comes down to the owners and their experience in running a Resturant and their standards . WAKE UP !

I have eaten their twice. The food has been good both times. However, we have had to wait over 1 hour both times to get our food. They need to find a way to prepare the food quicker.

I think the food is over priced for the portion you get and the quality. The food is typical breakfast. Nothing too fancy. And you pay an arm and a leg

Truly, about as good as breakfast gets. Sure you can get faster service elsewhere if you have a palate for shitty food, but if you deserve more, my neighborhood cafe is the right choice. I love this place. My favorite is the Denver burrito with extra green pork chili sauce with crispy mixed potatoes on the side. Their chocolate chip pancakes are also the best; I usually eat what my daughter cannot.

Tried this place out for breakfast while staying on Daniel Island. The biscuits and gravy were amazing and our waitress was very helpful and patient as we took our time perusing the menu. The build your own omelet was a bit underwhelming, but overall we really enjoyed the food and experience.

Stopped in today and decided to eat outside. Server came out quickly and took our drink order. Second server came minutes later for drink or and told him she already got it. After 20 minutes no drinks and no order taking. Wife went in to ask for server. Both servers came out. He looked at her, she said greeter told her it was his table, etc etc. But she never placed our drink order or told him about it. He took order, she commented "that comes with a pancake" and he snarled something back to her. We were actually getting ready to leave 25 minutes later, when someone from the kitchen comes out and says "I think this might be yours" really? How long did it sit there for that to happen? My pancacke was extremely hard on bottom. I actually scraped top off and ate it only. Wife got omelette with ham, tomato, and onion (standard omellete). Order came out with brown, I'm guessing caramelized onions. She could not eat it. Came home, made breakfast and will never return!!! UPDATE... Today is Friday and I still haven't seen a credit on my charge. Guess this was a nice PR stunt???

Second time there and very pleasantly surprised! Good coffee. great service and wonderful food. I had a ham omelet with home fries - both were awesome - I'll be back.

I think the other reviews are spot on -- food is good, once you get it. We stopped in here for a quick breakfast on a Saturday. We sat at the bar. It was later in the morning so it wasn't that busy. The food took forever (at least 45 mins). It was good, but we'd probably opt for another breakfast spot next time. Who wants to waste that much time waiting for an egg when you are at the beach?!

Was really looking forward to a good breakfast. The service was subpar and my waitress had a little bit of an attitude. We waited about 15 minutes for our coffees and had to get up to get ketchup, an extra knife and had to ask another waitress to bring hot sauce. The place wasn't that busy but obviously others have had a similar experience. I would go back but the place is nothing special.

Stopped on our way to Daniel Hall Plantation. Was very disappointed. Service was just ok. Could have done without the boiled chicken breast and refried turkey in our sandwiches. And it took 30 minutes when we were the only people there. I gave two stars because there is possible potential.

There's not much to choose from on DI and this breakfastery has an excellent breakfast sandwich for the right price of $5! The coffee is strong and the atmosphere is friendly, bustling and breakfasty. The service is a little saggy, with several teen girls who need to learn about efficiency, but perhaps that's the city-gal in me and I had to remember, we are in the South and everything moves a little slower. Well cooked, thick cut bacon on my huge, hot 5-star eggwich. They are slammed on the weekends, so prepare to wait.

Food was good for lunch but possibly the poorest service ever. Took forever to get menus ordered a coke never arrived, ordered a sandwich that didn't arrive. Luckily the kitchen made another quickly. Wrong items on bill. Just bad service.

Ate at Honeycomb while visiting some friends in Daniel Island and do not recommend it. We ordered a basic brunch and it took 50 minutes from the time we placed our order to receive the food. Basic things like refills and syrup for our pancakes needed to be requested to the waitress. Food was decent, which bumps it up to 2 stars. I definitely won't be going back.

More like 2.5 stars...... Since our first choice for early morning breakfast was a bust, we had to scramble (lol...) and find another close option for some early morning grub. Honey Comb to the rescue!!!....kinda. Location was only about 2 miles from our place and located within a shopping area. It has a very cute cafe/diner vibe. This is gonna be GOOD. (so I thought) The hostess that sat us was rather...should I say....sleepy?? We walked in and she came and lightly greeted us. The she asked US where we wanted to sit..and I was like...I dunno...shouldn't you tell me where I should sit? So she just told me to pick a spot. smh...poor little thang. I later found out that she was in training and someone came over and gave her a quick "pep talk" on how to seat people...smh. Server was excellent and friendly. Lots of locals in there enjoying their Sunday morning breakfast. Our waiter was funny and engaged in back and forth banter with us. Excellent...he gets our humor. Moving on to the food.... Coffee..blah. Although hot and never ending...it tasted burnt and flavorless. It did it's job. Hubs and I both ordered the turkey quiche. *sighs* this is where they lost a star. The grits were GOOD. mmmmm...I hadn't had grits since I was a wee pup so as I tasted them, memories of childhood came flooding back. The quiche.....oh the quiche. It was good....but it was also cold. The first bite was slightly warm but the second bite was ice cold. It's like they put it in the microwave for a minute and then let it sit out on the plate for a minute. ugh. I was starving. The waiter asked if everything tasted ok and I asked ..and I quote "is it supposed to be cold?? My quiche is cold." as I placed my finger on the middle of the ice block quiche. Hubs' food was cold too. He apologized and said that he was really sorry....and he took it back. 5 minutes later, he brings back our food and Hubs food was hot ...but I think they forgot to put mine back in the microwave. O.M.G. I didn't care at this point. I was hungry so I choked it down...cold. After that, we about had it and paid the bill and left.

Had breakfast here this morning. The food was good (not great) but the service needs some kinks to be worked out. The young girl greeting us seemed annoyed that we were bothering her to come in to the restaurant. Our server was good but very much "in the weeds" she had too many tables to be as effective as I think she could be. Ironically, I watched another server that seemed bored and only had a few tables. Overall, they have a very solid brunch/breakfast menu... the omelets were all good and the coffee is very good.

The owners here are wonderful and really care about the customers and what they eat! The pancakes are fantastic, as is their fresh, local coffee. True, they are a little pricier than other area spots but for the quality, the price is right!

I ordered the Honeycomb Burger with Pimento Cheese. Since the menu mentioned it came with pimento cheese, the waitress still asked if I wanted American, provolone, or Swiss. I chose provolone. She never mentioned it was a replacement to the pimento cheese. When the food arrived 20 minutes later it came with the provolone but no pimento. I asked her why there was no pimento cheese was on the burger, she replied that I wanted provolone. She said sorry and did nothing to fix it. It was obvious she had no clue this burger came with pimento cheese. The reason I'm paying 12 dollars for the burger was for the pimento cheese. The size and taste of the burger was no different than the Hardee's big burger. It was well overpriced with sub-par service. TRAIN YOUR STAFF! She ruined the meal.

I really enjoyed my first time here! I went in for a late breakfast on a Saturday with my wife and dog, and we sat outside. The service was great (and it was our server's first day) and we weren't ignored (which can happen some places if you sit outside). My wife got the chicken and waffles, which was good, but needed some hot sauce. I got the quiche of the day with ham, peppers, onions, and tomatoes - it was excellent. We will definitely be back!

My hubby and I stopped by for a late breakfast on our way to the airport. The place was pretty empty for a Saturday, so no wait time. I had the quiche with mixed potatoes and the hubby had the denver burrito with extra green chili. Their mixed potatoes came with purple, red, white and sweet potatoes - a pretty interesting twist. The quiche was pretty good, and my hubby loved the denver burrito. Service was a little slow, but friendly. If we're in town again we would definitely come back.

Tried this out for the first time and had an enjoyable experience. It's a definite plus that they serve breakfast later in the day. They have an ample breakfast and lunch menu. My spouse and I both had breakfast. The Veggy Benedict was excellent and my husband really liked the bacon egg and cheese sandwich. The service was friendly and they weren't very busy. We will certainly return when we want breakfast in the afternoon!
