I had my wedding on the Carolina Girl Yacht and Hamby catered the event. I spoke with Ryan from Hamby several times and met him at our tasting, which was amazing. Ryan was so nice and patient with us taking our time to make decisions and changing our mind a few times. The food was amazing. The tomato pie hors d'oeuvres were amazing, the biscuit bar was unreal and the chicken and waffles late night snack was great, although many people didn't try it or see it there, which was too bad because those that did raved about it. We have heard so much great feedback about the food. We didn't do a sit down dinner, we had stations and passed hors d'oevres which was great for the laid back atmosphere we were looking for. Ryan was awesome, although I didn't see him at the actual wedding, but those that were there, were wonderful. I would suggest brides to get a plate of a little bit of everything because I had a small plate brought to me while I was in the bottom of the boat waiting for the ceremony, but didn't get to try everything - they gave us stuff to take with us, but it was all smushed together and we ended up throwing it away when we got to the hotel. But it was amazing food, our guests were so happy and they were great to work with! Their pricing was comparable to Cru and Duvall, but Ryan won us over!

Please read your contract carefully !!!! Starry eyed bride & grooms don't always read the details. My son was not only broad sided by his finance's cancellation of the wedding, but then the thousands of hard saved money payed to Hamby was 100% non-refundable !!! Not the 30% stated on their web site ! Hamby had six months notice & hadn't paid a dime for food or hired help ... What a rip off

We used Hamby for a small business/networking reception. Perhaps our poor service was because it was small scale and not a wedding. They were very unresponsive and borderline rude in communications setting up the event. At 4:00 the day of the 7:00 event, they called to ask if they needed to provide tables after we told them the week prior that we did not. There was also a lot of other misunderstandings about what they were to provide. (Note: we did pay for the production fee and thought we made it clear they were to provide everything.) Then to top it all off, they tried to add a extra (unauthorized) bartending charges. In general, it was very disorganized and I really felt that they did not care about our event at all. I would not recommend them unless your event is worth their while.

Ask for Ryan! His smile is contagious and he is always willing to help. The food is out of this world. I don't think there was anything at the tasting I didn't like. I received so many compliments from family and friends at my wedding. Bravo Ryan!

My sister recently got married in Charleston and we used Hamby Catering and Ryan helped us and was absolutely AMAZING! He knew the ins and outs of how a perfect wedding should go and gave us so much advice. Hamby's food was to die to for - shrimp and grits, mini sandwiches, caprese skewers and their ham biscuits are delicious! Everyone at the wedding was so impressed and kept going up for seconds and thirds! They also let us do a formal tasting when we visited a few months before the wedding, they are so professional and helpful - not sure what we would have done without Hamby's!! Amazing job!!!!

If you're one of the thousands of brides who choose Charleston as a destination wedding site, you should check out Hamby Catering. They've been in the area for almost 30 years and have earned their reputation for good Southern cuisine at reasonable prices. If you're looking for foie gras, try Good Food Catering. If shrimp 'n' grits sounds good to you, then Hamby's should be your first choice. Everyone I know who has worked with Hamby's applauds their cooking, as long as you stick with their menu. Don't ask them to forge new culinary paths, and you won't be disappointed. We worked with Hamby's for our wedding reception last summer and my brother-in-law's wedding just last week. HIghlights from the Hamby's menu include the ubiquitous shrimp 'n' grits with tasso gravy (always served by a chef), coconut shrimp, smoked salmon and grouper, chicken satay with peanut sauce, artichoke dip, spanikopita, and cheese and vegetable displays. Hamby's always does a great job visually arranging their dishes, especially the fruit and cheese displays and beverages (the berry water is especially lovely). Their style is decidedly Southern, whether your event is down-home or upscale. Their packages are affordable, and the staff is willing to rework the menu with you to meet a tight budget.
