Whoa... simply whoa. (yes, using a Joey Lawrence voice) These are some crazy good doughnuts. Have you ever heard of the term, melt in your mouth good? Well, these literally melt in your mouth. So sweet, light, delicious. Even if you couldn't see them preparing the fresh-made doughnuts in front of you, it is obvious each one is made with loving care from the first bite. For me, the last bite was about 2.3 seconds after the first bite... that is, if you can call them bites. I really just kinda continually shoved the doughnut into my mouth until it was gone. Very little chewing took place (not that it was necessary, beacuse I'm not joking about the melting in your mouth pary) and even less breathing took place. The end result? I very, very satisfied customer that was pleasantly surprised by a great breakfast. The only thing I could see one having a problem with is the price. Each doughnut will run you about $1.50 or so each. BUT! refer back to the melt in your mouth delicious part mentioned above! Sure, you probably won't get 1-2 dozen like you might at other donut shops, but each one you do eat here will be delicious, inpsired, and satisfying. Think of it as a healthy doughnut eating option. Here you will eat one or two great doughnuts, instead of taking home a dozen to slowly (or no tso slowly if you're like me) polish off the whole box over the course of the morning. See? Not going would be irresponsibly and unhealthy... Go get your donut on!!

Out of donuts by 10:30am on a Tuesday - Complete fail

The donuts at Glazed are good, but not amazing. We arrived around 930am on a Friday morning and it was quite easy to decide what to get as there were only 4 chocolate frosted donuts left. Yes, that is correct... the only items they had left for sale at 930am were those 4 lonely donuts! It is impressive that they have developed such a following despite the fact that they routinely sell out before closing time. If that is happening regularly, what fool in charge hasn't decided to make some more dough? The buzz and marketing are obviously working, but you've got to have product on the shelves.

Overpriced and tastes like a grocery store donut. Not worth it when there are so many other places to choose from for breakfast.

A maple and bacon doughnut?!! I now know the inspiration for Homer Simpson's reaction to doughnuts.. Aaaaaahhhhhhhh?.. donuts.... (drool. drool. drool)

Yes, yes, yes, yes. This place lives up to the hype and more. When the bf and I were in Charleston visiting my folks, we volunteered (happily) to drive downtown to pick up some doughnuts for the fam. Once there, we were pleasantly surprised to not find a line out the door (it was a weekday around 9am). After perusing the variety of delicious sugary goodness, we decided on about 6-7 doughnuts to take back. Definitely 2 of the bacon-maple doughnuts (duh), a bacon apple fritter, a chocolate glazed (for my nephews), a sweet potato and last (but certainly not least) a plain glazed. Honestly, my favorite was the sweet potato, it was nothing like i expected it to be, but was so moist and flavorful. We also ordered two iced coffees which were wonderful and refreshing. Highly recommend :)

Let me just say, full disclosure, my in-laws own a donut shop in Massachusetts that's a freaking INSTITUTION. I mean, the place has won all kinds of awards and is the epitome of kitschy, New England big, moist and fluffy and sticky sweet donuts. Neon sign and everything. But Glazed, really, really gives them a run for their money...and then some. Just go to their website and you'll start salivating. Great pictures of the donuts they offer-- though the daily menu will be different. On a recent trip, my husband and I tried the apple fritter, the lemon blueberry glazed, and a classic glazed with raspberry. The fritter was like a mini money bread...but crisp on the outside and freckled on the inside with little bits of bacon and Granny Smith apples. A nice sticky ooze of sweetness pooled at the bottom of each tiny poppable dough bite. Really nice. The lemon blueberry was as cake donuts should be. Not huge, but moist and dense on the inside, with a clean sugar glaze. The star of the day by far was this berry concoction. The base...the main component, the glazed yeast donut itself was fluffy and light and just how donuts should be. But it's the raspberry topping that put it over the top. This is not gross artificial pink perfectly shiny almost crust-like frosting. This is true, intense raspberry puree and sugar, with a flavor so concentrated, it was almost like jam...but better. Really friendly staff, patient staff that helped us make our decisions, despite the line behind us was the icing on the donut. (Har, har, har!) Can't wait to try the more unique varieties!

My daughter wanted to do something other than a traditional cake for her wedding. Cupcakes or doughnuts were possibilities. She was having a destination wedding in Charleston and her wedding coordinator suggested several places to try. Appointments were set for tastings while we were in town to meet with vendors. Glazed was far above any of the other places we taste-tested. Not only were the doughnuts scrumptious, the owner was gracious and accommodating. We told them ahead of time which ones we were interested in sampling but were encouraged to try as many as we liked. Needless to say we went with the doughnuts. They were a huge hit at the wedding and made a lovely presentation. I recommend Glazed for your morning doughnut or as a tasty twist for your next special occasion!

After lunch, we stopped at Gourmet Glazed Doughnuts. Because it was already 1:00, they were sold out of the bacon-maple doughnut, so we just got a sweet potato doughnut. This is an outrageously delicious moist, cake donut with an excellent sweet potato brown sugar spice flavor that is lightly glazed and topped with chopped pecans and a sprinkle of brown sugar. Although, for $2.15, it better be the best donut that you have ever had.

The texture of their yeast donuts is amazing - doughier than Krispy Kreme, but still light in texture. They're big too, so you don't have to eat a ton of them to feel like you had something (unlike Krispy Kreme, which is okay, but they're greasier and have no body). But you'll want to have more than one! They do close the store when they run out of donuts, so don't rely on their store hours unless you want to risk being disappointed.

Very yummy! My favorites sugar cinnamon twist, the peach cobbler, and the lavender honey bun. Do get there early as favorites sell out and when they are out, they are closed! Enjoy!

I have never seen such an amazing selection of glazed doughnuts! Cake donuts, sure, but not glazed. I am very impressed! A colleague of mine is basically the greatest doughnut aficionado of the southeastern United States, so I had to pick up a half dozen of these treats to bring back to share, each of which was cut into fours so everyone in the department could try a variety. Among our decadent sampling were margarita (a mild lime taste with the barest hint of tequila, sprinkled lightly with sea salt; OMG, yummm!), lemon old-fashioned (my favorite; these guys do cake donuts well!), sweet potato (clever, resourceful, and very Southern), orange pistachio (delish!), chocolate glazed with sprinkles (this old faithful did not disappoint), and raspberry glazed (sooooo good; a real raspberry flavor! My other fave besides margarita and lemon old-fashioned). Since I visited near closing, they threw in a bonus cinnamon sugar twist, which I figured my colleagues didn't need to know, so I gobbled that up myself. Yummy, yum, yum. All of these little treasures will run you ~$2 each. They sell some drinks here as well, so you can pair your treat with some milk or chocolate milk, water or juice, etc. Makes me sad I don't get to Charleston more often. We do have a doughnut shop opening up here in Durham, NC---Rise: Biscuits, Donuts---this fall, but, gosh, that is so long to wait.

I would fly to Charleston and back right now to get a box of black and white donuts from here. noshtomeetyou.com/blog/2…

Fresh and delicious! They do both yeast and cake type doughnuts here. Standouts, for me: the mascarpone and berry, raspberry glaze, and the sweet potato.

It's true, the glazed doughnuts are amazing. I also had a coconut cream filled doughnut with toasted coconut on top. They were both fantastic.

OK...anybody that knows me culinarily knows that I am absolutely no stranger to pizza parlors, coffee shops, and doughnut shops and that I've been around the doughnut block a time or two. I've had Krispy Kreme and Dunkin. Who hasn't? I've also had Randy's, Top Pot, Tim Horton's, Kane's, Sublime, and Walton, Tas-T-O's. Up until now Sublime has been my favorite. Now, however, I've had what are probably the most superior of any doughnut I've ever had - Glazed Gourmet Doughnuts. The best part? Glazed is right here in Charleston! I don't have to go to Atlanta, Seattle, Houston, Denver, L.A., or Ocala. I just have to head down to North King Street. I highly recommend the maple bacon and the raspberry. They're both out of this world! If you happen to go when they've run out ... be patient and make the return trip. They're well worth the wait!!!

Holy Hannah! These doughnuts were delicious! The S shaped cinnamon sugar, the raspberry and the lemon were our favorites. Yum! Absolutely fantastic, definitely give it a try.

They really know how to do doughnuts. Yum! And I'm not even a big donut fan.

Excellent gourmet doughnuts! You can't go wrong with whichever you choose. But get there early, because they have a limited supply and sell out early.

  • Aaron F.

Yow, I says with a devilish grin covered with frosting...much like the donut I just ate. I am quite full. I am Aaron's conflicted inner fat kid. I heard about this place and came in on a cold February morning and decided the Blueberry Cheesecake would be my victim of choice (little did I know it would be the first of two). It looks like any glazed, filled donut you might elsewhere, but that's where comparisons end. You bite into it and out gushes this amazing danish-like cream, white and blue and rich and sinful. The donut is still fluffy but not too chewy - the way the good lord intended it to be. Once I'm done with this, my predatory instincts take hold. Unfortunately a lady has just scampered off with five dozen donuts, which means they're mostly cleaned out. So as a fallback I pounce (not literally) on a bacon apple fritter. More sin. More fat. But so much more goodness. This place has a delightful charm...if I return to Charleston, I'll definitely swing back here.

Good grief! So two problems: (1) you have to know the doughnuts are very large -- larger than I really want for a quick snack; probably 3x the weight/volume of a DD or KK chain donut store doughnut. (2) But the totally amazing thing is that they make a batch of doughnuts in the morning, sell them off as fast as they can, and then smile at you and shrug. Read the other reviews, but I walked in at 10:45 a.m. on Friday and there were 5 doughnuts left; my wife went in fifteen minutes later, zero, none, nada. So this isn't a doughnut store, it's a "you might get lucky and get a doughnut sometime" store. Best advice is to go north to Cannon and west to Sugar Bakery for the cookies and cupcakes or south to the cupcake place just before you get to Marion Square. Those are both run by grownups and do great stuff.

Oh my. My waistline would never forgive me if I lived near this place. They have a plethora of delicious, moist, warm, mouth-watering donuts (though I went early in the day and I'm sure it slims down fast). I got their glazed and the maple bacon, I always check out the classic glazed when I go to a donut place and I'll try anything with bacon on it. The glazed was perfect and the bacon was amazingly good. The shop was cute, the staff was friendly and honestly, I can't find anything wrong with the place. It's even worth the hassle of going downtown believe it or not.

As a former Seattleite, Top Pot WAS the apogee of my doughnut experience. The Glazed Gourmet doughnut exceeds its Pacific Northwest brethren in every aspect - freshness, quality, dough texture, inventiveness and execution of the fillings and glazes. If you're a Krispy Creme or Dunkin devotee you'll initially feel a little challenged by some of the flavor combinations. Be adventurous. Get a regular glazed(and be amazed), but try one of Allison's more unusual offerings and experience doughnut epiphany. P.S. Don't go on Saturday morning. I prefer there to be a few doughnuts left when I arrive. Allison - your drip coffee is just OK. Give Intelligentsia a try and see what you think.

TRIED to get the advertised donuts of the day. Had to park in a garage and walk to the shop which is no short walk.Arrived there at 11am and all there specialty donuts were sold out! All that remained were choices I could get at any Dunkin Donuts for a third of the price! Especially when they opened 2 hrs prior! Won't waste my time going there again. They at the very least need a lesson on good business habits....supply and demand

Seriously, some of the best donuts I've had. Yes, even the glazed variety is off the chain. I had a glazed one the next morning, so it was at least a day old, and it was still light, moist, and fluffy. On top of that, after you eat it, there's no nasty "film" in your mouth, like the kk or dd. That is a sign of a quality donut. The maple bacon wasn't the best I've had before, but it was a close second. I did like it better than Voodoo Donuts out in Oregon. If there could be a better coverage of bacon pieces, like Blue Dot in NOLA, then it would be tops. Being on King St., the price is going to be high, we paid $22 for a dozen. Nothing we could do everyday, but once in a while it's ok. Make sure to go early, because they run out fairly quickly. Now that Donut Connection seems to be closed for good, glad to see someone open up with quality, bigger donuts. Yes, I still love me some Diggity.

They were out of most specialty donuts by the time I stopped by around 10:30/11am on a Friday. We had a sweet potato donut and a peanut butter pie donut. Both were good, the filling of the peanut butter donut was quite tasty. Next time we'd definitely make an effort to arrive earlier.

I stopped here on a recent girls trip. Great funky vibe, fresh made donuts in variety of flavors. When they run out of the fresh donuts the shop closes. I had a lemon cake donut. It was smaller, but filling because it was quite dense, but it was tasty and moist. My girlfriend had a bacon maple glazed donut, that she raved about. Bacon on a donut sounds awful but evidently it was delish. Friendly folks too.

Who knew this tiny dough-nut shop on upper King St would be such a hot spot on Saturday morning? We tried 4 dough-nuts- pumpkin, glazed, raspberry, & chocolate with sprinkles. Light fluffy dough-nuts... Sugary perfection! The coffee is really good too. My favorites were the raspberry & the plain ole' glazed. They're a little pricey, but worth it. And the price will hopefully keep you from overindulging too often! The staff is super nice too.

Outstanding donuts including a bacon-flavored glazed donut. Also, the cheese, egg and bacon breakfast biscuit was excellent! The only knock on this place is that, if you dine-in, your food is served on a skimpy brown napkin instead of a small sturdy paper plate and the interior is quite cramped. Otherwise, highly recommended.

This place is the real deal. Fresh, made-from-scratch doughnuts are my kryptonite. I've not tried one yet that didn't require a private moment. The worst thing about this place is that I can ride my bike here and do so with regularity. I'd swear they put crack wrapped in bacon with butter sauce in their doughnuts if I didn't know that the owner was such a decent lady.

  • Karma F.

Pricey small cake doughnuts that leave a residue to the top of your mouth. I was disappointed because I live down the street and I like doughnuts.

    (1)
  • Justin E.

I keep trying this place because its so hyped, and each time I'm disappointed. Never a good experience. I've never been able to get what they have advertised for the day, and I've sat there and waited over 30 minutes for them to have doughnuts ready. The doughnuts aren't bad, but they are nothing special. Way over-hyped. And overpriced. I'm done going out of my way to try these guys again.

    (2)
  • Sara K.

In a word, amazing! I've been to glazed a few times and tried a half dozen different flavors; pumpkin, raspberry, Mexican chocolate, maple bacon...all fresh & delicious. I hear they are making doughnut holes now, I can't wait to try them!

Twas the morning after a bachelorette party, and all through the Air BNB Most of the group was still passed out, all except for me The high heels were abandoned in the hallway In hopes that their aches wouldn't stay All the gals were nestled all snug in their rooms While visions of breakfast in their stomachs loomed... Okay. I can't rhyme anymore because I'm too busy dreaming about donuts from Glazed Gourmet. After a quick walk down King Street, my friend and I strategized our selection of a dozen donuts the same way people set up Battleship. How many regular glazed donuts should we get? Will someone actually eat that maple glazed one? Aren't we glad we don't have any gluten free friends on this trip? Yes to all the above. We also ordered a portable jug (I don't have a better way to describe it, whatever.) of hot coffee to bring back to the house to share, which took about 15 minutes to brew. Fresh coffee and donuts? Forget sugar plum fairies, bring on Phoebe W. the patron saint of hangover remedies. P.S. get the raspberry glazed and orange creamsicle donuts, you won't regret it.

  • Justin B.

While I was hoping for larger, richer, and heartier concoctions, I'll give Glazed Gourmet this much: they make a pretty good donut and these things taste light and allow for you to get away feeling like you are eating something semi-healthy! Came by yesterday and bought 16 donuts, including the regular glazed, the chocolate sprinkled, an orange cream-filled, a raspberry glazed, a maple bacon, an apple fritter and a honey bun. I tried all but the chocolate sprinkled; generally all of these were good to great. Now, for $39 and change, I was expecting bigger donuts, so just know going in that these are NOT the biggest donuts on the block. But Glazed Gourmet seems to be going for artsy with these things, which fits with the high-end shopping available all over this street. Not a bad option; doesn't rival my fave donut shops in other cities but I'll come back here if we return to the Charleston area!

Pros: Very unique flavors that are very tasty. This place is really cute on the outside and is a hidden gem on King street. It's not overdone, but their doughnuts are to die for. They have t-shirts and cute stickers. Great coffee menu. Cons: No gluten-free doughnuts. Nearly sold out by noon on a Sunday. You can't get exactly what you want because they only have 12 flavors available everyday. The store smelled a tad damp to me.

Really good donuts with creative flavors. Wife and I were actually heading back to our rental property, carrying breakfast for our friends when we passed by Glazed. We couldn't help but to step in and see what they have to offer. Boy were we glad we did. Looking at the display of a variety of delicious donuts, we had to go ahead and grab a dozen. Ok they are NOT cheap and maybe I won't ever buy a whole dozen again, but our party of 6 thoroughly enjoyed the dozen donuts over the short weekend trip in Charleston.

We first went to Glazed as part of a Charleston Culinary Tour. While there we got to taste a few of their signature donuts and hear Mary (the chef's mom) talk all about their products and how they got started. After that, I knew we'd be back. Literally everything is delicious here. And I'm not a huge donut fan. For the people who complain about them running out of donuts - you're insane. They arrive to start baking fresh at 2 am EVERY SINGLE DAY and they don't have any sort of conveyor belt system. True freshness = potential to run out. We returned on the last day of the trip to take some donuts for the road. A seriously great decision. The only not great part was the latte I got. The espresso was really bitter. But you're here for donuts not coffee - so go straight for the good stuff!

  • Sarah B.

I had hoped to try one of the unique flavors shown on the website, such as the pomegranate, white chocolate mint, strawberry kiwi, the purple goat, strawberry basil lime, or raspberry Nutella. Unfortunately none of these flavors were on sale today. Instead, I tried the raspberry glazed. It was AMAZING. I do have a soft spot for donuts, but this one was crazy good. It (mostly) softened my disappointment. I would recommend you arrive early, as we arrived around 9:30 and a few flavors were already sold out. Cute shop, overall a good experience.

  • Clare L.

I can only speak to the iced chai here as we only stopped in for a coffee break, but that was wonderful. Glazed is a cute little doughnut shop on King Street that you can tell probably runs out of donuts well before closing time every day. The service was friendly and quick and the line moved quickly. I never needed to stop here for breakfast but I think next time in Charleston I will make it a priority to pop in and grab a donut.

I love glazed! I really appreciate the craft and care that they put into all of their unique flavors! I've been here a few times and I am always floored by how distinct, and gourmet all the flavors are in each of their doughnuts. Everything tastes exactly how it sounds and not artificial. Recently, I had the raspberry, orange pistachio, and the chocolate filled powdered doughnut. The raspberry really shines in the frosting and is one of my favorites! The orange + pistachio is a great pairing, but i'm just not a big fan of citrus desserts. My husband really enjoyed it though. The chocolate filled doughnut was yummy but I wish the chocolate was more gooey. The regular ring doughnuts were $2.25 and the filled doughnut was $2.50. The doughnuts are huge and are definitely worth the price! I also got "the dirty elephant" (amazing name) which is a drink made with white chocolate, chai, and espresso. $3.95 The staff is friendly and knowledgeable, and the atmosphere feels like a typical coffee shop with lots of places to sit. I love taking people here when visiting Charleston because it's one of the unique things we have to offer here!

I got the apple bacon fritter. It was warm, crispy, with chunks of apple. My friend got the Purple Goat, she said she decided she didn't really love lavender in food because it reminds her of cleaning products, but the goat cheese part was very good. My friend didn't love the coffee, she thought it seemed weak. I thought the coffee was fine, but I added a decent amount of half and half. Cute local place, I love that they are made fresh daily.

Ahhhh. Glazed. In Charleston, I have found two options for donuts. Cheap, bleh donuts, and Glazed. Yes, they are a little more expensive. Yes, some of their combinations are strange. Yes, you have to get there hella-early to grab your favorites. Hear me : it is worth it. Glazed isn't afraid to push the donut limits, creating delights such as the purple goat (goat cheese, berries, lavender glaze). Plus, they let you call in orders if you can't make it there right when they open!

  • Judi H.

Glazed was a beautiful, gourmet donut store. There was a long line as we approached the bakery. The ship was decorated so pretty. The donuts were on beautiful cake stands. Wonderful flavors to choose from. We ordered six. Raspberry, black and white, apple fritter, coconut and Dulce De Banana. Each one was delicious and very fresh. Pricey donuts but well worth them.

  • Phoebe H.

I really enjoyed Glazed Gourmet...but if you are going to be that good, and take up a space on King Street. You HAVE to not run out of those donuts midday. Donuts = loyal customers = money. I really love the bacon glazed flavor, and apparently everyone else in Charleston does too. They have the most delicious coffee menu, but being flavored coffees its hard not to fall into a diabetic coma post latte and donut. I would highly recommend the White Elephant latte which has cinnamon, white chocolate, and coffee. It was a unique taste and had all my favs mixed in. The service is very friendly but can't help but be a little slow. They sell these mini cakes and overtime someone got up to the counter, the poor girl had to name all eight flavors...over and over and over... again. But again, they couldn't have been more sweet. You can tell they all work really hard. They have some competition in town, but the bacon always wins in the end.

amazing doughnuts!! The dough is so light and airy and the glazes are clearly homemade. Delicious, unique flavors. Totally worth going, but you better get there early! Maple bacon is to die for!

A CHARLESTON MUST HAVE Quality - Fresh baked doughnuts made every morning, honestly the best you'll ever have. Service - They're very friendly and helpful. Trying to decide which flavor to get is tough, but they make the decision-making process much easier. Atmosphere - Don't be discouraged by a line. Depending on the time/season it can get crowded inside, and sometimes the line goes out the door, but everything about Glazed makes it worth it. - There is indoor seating, but again it can sometimes be crowded. I've sat inside every time and never had any issues. Recommendations - Classic glazed - Cinnamon Sugar Twist - Iced Dark Chocolate with Sprinkles - Any other kind of doughnut they have

I got there around 10:30 on a Friday and they only had 3 kinds left. A chocolate frosted and two old fashioned. I got one of each and they were delicious. The old fashioneds might not sell out first but I'm ok with that bc they were delicious-one regular and one with raspberry icing. They sold out while I was there. Get there early or call in an order ahead of time.

A great place to take non-locals when they're visiting, especially because they have gained some national recongition through food shows and magazines/blogs. Some neat, non-traditional flavors. The maple bacon, blueberry/lemon, and chocolate frosted have been fan favorites. The location tends to have a odd smell...maybe because it was early in the morning and the place smelled like cleaning supplies? Not sure. It doesn't have a cozy, donut shoppe feel to it. Overall, not bad but nothing to rave too much about.

I love gourment, local fresh ingredients etc..the idea is great the execution just okay for me. The donuts were okay. I had a glaze and raspberry. Nothing that makes me want to come back except for the coffee was good. I will stick with joeys in mt p.

During a recent girls foodie trip to Charleston on the first weekend in Feb, I had the chance to swing by GGD twice on two separate mornings. We had included it on our Friday morning itinerary, but didn't make it in as early as we had hoped... sleeping in was definitely at the top of our list after a late dinner the night before! As a result, pickings were pretty slim by the time we arrived around 11:30am. The only flavors they had not sold out of were the Cinnamon Sugar, Chocolate w/ Sprinkles, and Black & White (dark choco filled powdered sugar). Though the donuts were decent, I certainly could find similar in my hometown of Seattle. I did ask about some of the specialty flavors and was told by the helpful staff that they have a very broad selection of their flavors on the weekend and I could call to "reserve" some before they opened. I was most intrigued with their Purple Goat and was informed it was their signature. I set my alarm to wake up early the next day and call in my order, come hell or highwater. The next morning (Sat) we got our butts in gear and were richly rewarded at 9:30am with a selection of their more unusual combos-- the Matcha Latte (green tea filling with espresso glaze), and Purple Goat (berry goat cheese filling and lavender glaze), which were their 2 specials. Plus a Maple Bacon (using Nueske's bacon!), which my friend threw in just cause. Here is where GGD shines... and was a completely differently scenario than the day before. All four of us sampled each of the 3 donuts and each person had a different fave. But they were all unusual, and very very tasty. Two big thumbs up!! Quick FYI, at 9:30am they still had plenty of all of their flavors remaining, not sure if they just anticipate more crowds on the weekend and so bake larger quantities, but I really didn't need to call in an order for the time that we arrived. I also noticed the line seemed to ebb and flow. When we walked in, there was one person ahead of us but 10 minutes later, the line went all the way to the door (about 6-7 parties). As expected in a donut shop, the line moved quickly though.

Pros: wide variety of flavors and choices, quick service. That being said the glazed was definitely the best donut we bought. Cons: donuts are pretty expensive - $2.50ish for one with no discounts for dozen etc. Can't speak to where these donuts stand vs other donuts in Charleston, so who knows, maybe these are the best the city has to offer?

These donuts are just okay in my book. I think I prefer a more cake-like doughnuts vice the fluffed version that they have at Glazed (is there a name for this type of doughnut? help!). I've also tried to call ahead in the morning, not excessively early, to get a dozen ready to pick up on a few occasions and have gotten no answer... and I've stopped by at noon to a closed shop. Pretty disappointing. I've given them several shots and I guess they're just not my thing. The donuts are creative and flavors are good, made fresh... blah... but I never leave super impressed.

Found this donut shop on yelp! I'm a sucker for homemade - non traditional donuts. After reading many positive reviews, I was prepared to get here bright and early (before the selection became sparse or them closing because they've sold out). We found a spot a few blocks down from Glazed right on King (it was around 10:15am on a Saturday). I love walking King street, a ton of cute shops and restaurants to take mental note of (to try in the future). We entered Glazed, there were maybe two couples ahead of us in line, the selection was full - I saw my beloved raspberry donuts that I'd specifically come for. When we got up to order my son spotted a fly, and as children tend to do, he kept repeating the fact that there was a fly (I wanted to forget it and pretend it wasn't there)... I saw it perch on a maple bacon donut multiple times (gag, glad I didn't come for those - too bad for my boyfriend, because he did)! I wasn't going to let that fly rain on my parade! We ordered 3 raspberry, 1 maple bacon, 1 black & white, and 1 lemon cake (the girl took all the donuts we ordered off of a rolling cart that houses sheets of fresh donuts - I guess they move to the display donuts once everything else is gone). My son also got an IZZE sparkling apple drink out of the cooler - total was around $16 bucks. The donuts were soft and fresh and really tasted homemade, the staff was polite as well. The only negative things I have to say... The dreaded fly (I think the old saying "what you don't know can't hurt you," applies here), I can only imagine what else goes on behind the scenes at other places (in the kitchen), and I can't imagine how they'd keep flies out with the front door continuously opening - it's gross, but it is what it is. The donuts had a greasy after taste... like they'd been deep fried in old oil or something... buttttttt if someone brought me a box of 6 raspberry donuts, I wouldn't turn them down.

Get in line early. They close whenever they run out. My favorites were the classics ... glazed or sugar. Super fluffy!

Delicious and not your average donut. Get there early for the largest selection as these delectable treats go quick!

I have never had donuts this good! It was well worth the wait to open at 9am on a Saturday. I was skeptical of having bacon in an apple fritter but I was happily surprised to find that it tasted like home.

Very dirty, run down little shop in downtown with sub par doughnuts. Just because you put bacon on a doughnut does not constitute a stellar doughnut. Not sure which was grosser -- peanut butter and jelly doughnuts or tons of flies zooming around an uncovered display area where the doughnuts are kept -- invest in a glass case already!

$2.00 each and upwards for average doughnuts doesn't do it for me. By 10 am they only had 3-4 flavors of doughnuts left and obviously those weren't the crowd favorites. I was charged $30.00 for 5 doughnuts and a milk. It took a minute for me to realize this seemed a little high... I went back and had the girl re- do the math and she apologized and said their machine was a little glitchy and she overcharged me by $15.00. To top it off they ran out of napkins. Back in LA where we have tons of gourmet doughnut shops a place like this wouldn't make it; the competition would eat them alive. They really need to figure out a way to make more doughnuts to provide for breakfast hours at least to 11am and keep their supplies stocked. Shame because this one of the only places to get doughnuts when were visiting. I cannot recommend.

I love doughnuts, but very basic ones ... Glazed, sprinkles, chocolate, etc. While there I ordered a glazed doughnut and honey bun. The glazed was just ok, but the honey bun was amazing! If I lived closer, I would visit all the time for the honey bun alone.

Outstanding doughnuts! We tried the dark chocolate, glazed, chocolate glazed, honeybun, and peanut butter chocolate. All above average but the pb chocolate was the best. Coffee and service also great. Check this place out!

I cannot stress this enough: best donuts I've had on the east coast. Probably my second favorite donut place I've ever been too. Not tooting my own horn but donuts are KINDA my thing and I've eaten them all over the place. It's hard to begin. The apple bacon fritter blew me away. The cinnamon sugar was like a pillow. Their maple bacon wasn't overly sweet like most places make the mistake of doing. It was the perfect amount of salty and sweet. I could go on and on. Sincerely a Charleston MUST. Get there early because they sell out!

This place has the best donuts ever! I found this place and had to try it. The decor is so cute. I got the raspberry frosted donut. The icing which is made from raspberries is to die for. The donut is fluffy and is pretty big. I will come back.

Well, this was a huge disappointment. We drove ALL the way from Baltimore just for these treats. Haha, not really. That would be insanely stupid. However, we definitely had this place on our 'must try' list. First off, the place is lacking in decor. It didn't feel very welcoming or personal...but I digress. Secondly, we had THREE donuts to choose from. What kind of donut place only has THREE options to choose from?! Booooooorrriiinnngggg and pretty disappointing. They had an original, a coconut, and a chocolate covered one. Thirdly, the donuts were fairly dry and didn't have a lot of flavour *sad face* Not to mention that even though I only bought two, it still cost me FIVE DOLLARS. Seriously?!?! Ugh. Charleston, get it together! Here in Baltimore, you can get some of the most amazingly delicious and fresh donuts for like...$.75 a piece. Why is that so hard to find elsewhere?? I was definitely let down. It was almost on par with a Dunkin Donuts :(

Delicious! I brought my boys in after a morning at the Children's Museum. Even though it was only about 10:30/10:45 there were just a few flavors left! Unfortunately we missed out on Blueberry Cheesecake, but we totally enjoyed the powdered sugar chocolate filled doughnut and the raspberry glazed doughnut. The atmosphere is relaxed and the people are friendly. It was fun to sit and chat with both the employees and other patrons while enjoying such tasty treats!

I saw this place on Chuck Eats the Streets, and I was immediately intrigued. Never mind the fact that in the month leading up to my visit, I put on a good bit of weight. In particular, when I passed by here on my first visit at about 11:30am, they already sold out and closed for the day! So from there on, it was "Glazed or bust!" The only thing I ended up busting was my waistline. I tried their glazed, maple bacon, purple goat, and orange something donuts. I had to really struggle to save some for her. In short, the doughnuts were fluffy, tastefully glazed, and adorned with enough extra toppings just enough to enhance the donuts without overwhelming them in smokey bacon or tangy goat cheese. Also, I got their cappuccino on my visit, which was very good. All in all, is Glazed the absolute best donut place ever? Not in my books. That is reserved for some local hole-in-the-wall places in the Deep South where I've spent over a decade of my life (and probably 5 inches of my waistline--since lost). But Glazed is still very, very good.

Best donuts ever! I tried the raspberry and black and white. Great mocha iced coffee too. My only complaint was no healthy fruit options. But if you need a donut fix this is the place.

I was intrigued by this place when I saw it on The Food Network and liked what I saw. It's a quaint establishment, not overly done or overwhelming. I guess we got there a little too late because they didn't have the variety I expected. But I decided on the raspberry doughnut--the bright red icing was irresistible. The donut itself was delicious. They have the perfect dough recipe, so thumbs up on that. The sweet potato donut was pretty good. We also tried the rosemary bun, which was okay. I plan on going again while here for the weekend. I need to take a couple of the raspberry ones home to eat on the drive back to Charlotte. :-)

The doughnuts are incredible. I had a fresh raspberry glazed one and it blew me away. You can tell they use fresh and all natural ingredients. Unfortunately, I'm writing this review because of the customer service. This woman was ahead of me in line with her family. They ordered five doughnuts, two kids grabbed theirs and sat down, the rest of the family followed them to the table and left their doughnuts. Th girl boxing doughnuts continued on to help me after she had plated theirs. Next thing you know, I'm trying to pay for my doughnuts and this lady is back up at the counter yelling across me to the girl for not carrying her food to the table. Ladies and gentlemen, that's clearly not how this bakery works and I realized that upon coming in here my first time. Anyways, she is raising her voice at the young girl who is helping the family behind me and creating a rather large spectacle for the shop that's full of families. She asked her for a tray which they do not have so the girl handed her a box and the woman started ranting about how terrible of customer service it was and how you don't treat people like this and demanding to speak to a manager and to have the owners personal phone number. The girl pulled the lady aside to try and calm her and explain her means and the woman would not have it. Next thing you know, the woman gets back up ten minutes later to leave and starts antagonizing the employee AGAIN. This woman said that the girl had no class, that she was rude, lacked courtesy, and that she was only a doughnut girl who would amount to nothing. The poor employee just pointed to the door and said there are families in here, this is uncalled for, get out now. The man she was helping even pointed at the door as if to escort the uppity woman. This is all because this bakery doesn't hand deliver doughnuts to a table because it's a grab and go shop. People, remember that customer service goes two ways. As a customer, show some respect for the great service you receive. This is charleston, Sc, you won't find a place on this planet that has sweeter employees. And remember, lower level employees don't control the way the restaurant runs. Have some class. Let me make it clear, this employee handled this as best as she could. She was very kind and gracious, called everyone, even teenagers, ma'am and sir, was giving directions to us tourists, and actually cared about how we were liking the city. The epitome of southern hospitality can be found in this place.

Went here for something sweet after brunch. My boyfriend had the maple bacon glazed doughnut and LOVED it. I had the lavender grapefruit doughnut which was ok, it tasted better then it sounded, but wasn't a show stopper. My friend had the raspberry frosted that she said was the best! They are a little bit on the pricy side but for gourmet doughnuts and great service I wasn't upset paying a little extra.

A wish fulfilled! Before leaving Charleston, I finally got a chance to set foot inside this legendary donut shop and to sample its original glazed donut. Special flavors of the day sell out very quickly. When we arrived around noon (they close at 3 and often close shop early when everything sells out) our only choices were the maple bacon and glazed. I had my heart set on the sweet potato donut based on all the great reviews. Oh well, next time... Anyway, the glazed donut that I ended up getting was very good. It was very fresh, had a perfect glaze on top, and was almost cake-like. I definitely would recommend this standby if gourmet donuts aren't your thing. However, I am definitely going to try to come back one day to sample some of the other flavors, such as key lime pie, the Purple Goat, or Chinese 5 spice! BTW, the donut shop itself is really cute. There are a few picnic tables where you can sit and receive immediate gratification. A must-try while visiting Charleston.

I'm really not a donut fan, but at the urging of some friends, I stopped by Glazed today. They invited me multiple times and I couldn't make it, but obviously they left an impression- I was downtown after church today and picked up two- a chocolate frosted with sprinkles and an original glazed. Those donuts are pretty incredible. Now, they do cost a little more than Krispy Kreme or Dunkin- but you get what you pay for because they are bigger donuts. You'll want more than one because they're tasty, not because you're not satisfied. Also, unlike those other shops- they taste good even a little later on, so don't worry if you can't eat it then and there in the shop- it tastes great an hour or two later :). The donuts melt in your mouth. For a large donut, it's light. One word of advice, go early. I went at 1 PM on a Sunday and they were out of half the donuts on the menu! Still lots of great choices, but be there when they open if you want a specific kind.

Small shop. Big thumbs-up. By far, one of the best donuts I've had in a long time. I ordered the simple, but delicious coffee cake donut but I stole a bite of the maple bacon which was, to my surprise, equally if not more tasteful! Unfortunately we came a little late so we weren't able to try the many other flavors they had including sweet potato, mexican chocolate, curry up, etc. I highly recommend, if you are in Charleston, to stop by this little donut shop. But get there early and buy one of the many different flavors before they are all gone!

Glazed serves up some super tasty doughnuts! Try the maple bacon doughnut or the apple fritter and you will not be disappointed. I also really enjoyed their standard glazed doughnut. They also have Khi-Khi coffee which is a Vietnamese coffee that is made right here in Charleston, SC and it pairs perfectly with their doughnuts. Stephany helped me at Glazed and she was extremely nice and helpful with my doughnut selection. Make sure to get their early because they can sell out super fast!

Stopped in for a mid-afternoon snack whilst exploring King street. It was near closing time so there wasn't much of a selection left to choose from. I went with the classic glazed. The donut was perfectly frosted, not overly sugary and was super fluffy on the inside. I was not left with that greasy, heavy feeling in my tummy which happens with some other donuts, an extra plus in my book!

This is an awesome little spot to get some gourmet doughnuts. We got the green tea matcha, bacon maple and a regular glazed. They were a little pricey but the quality was worth it. Even the normal glazed are very good, there are several other options too. Be careful on the parking though, there isn't much, so you'll have to find a spot on the street. We'll definitely be back, I need to try the raspberry!!!!

I had a donut craving, Saturday morning. The doors were wide open, the staff inviting, the donuts plenty. My hubs had the maple bacon. It was frankly salty. Sigh. Next time, maybe there will be a pork belly donut with kimchee and siracha drizzled in breast milk. Sigh. Anyways, the chocolate frosted with chocolate sprinkles was delicious. Good texture. Hit the spot with a cup of coffee topped off with fresh half and half. The apple cider donut was dry as a bone. I am not sure I would go out of my way next time, but I think Glazed could fill a void if they master the basics.

I think hands down i have found the best doughnut place, and it deeply saddens me that it is in Charleston... which gives me another reason to go and see my bff and her soon to be new baby! They make x amount of doughnuts in the mornign and when they sell out, they re done.... so you have to get up and get going in the mornings or they are GONE! and thats just going to ruin your day. The doughnuts are huge,. We got a maple bacon and a raspberry... and i begrudgingly told my husband i would go halfsies with him. The doughnuts were soft and almost melt in your mouth, there was a not overly sweet glaze of maple and nice crispy bacon bit on and IN the doughnut. It was the most delicious thing in the world!! and the raspberry one was also scrumptious. you can taste the fresh raspberry in the glaze on top. Glazed needs to move to atlanta.... I promise to keep them in business..

Someone at work brought in a dozen doughnuts from Glazed today and I've been singing their praises ever since to anyone who will listen. I could easily do a write up of each doughnut I tried (pieces of five different flavors), which should say something about how memorable they are. These are not to be put in the category with 99% of doughnuts. Read carefully, this is important: Glazed is a flavor experience. There are options for the adventurous to the cautious and all are top notch. Everything I tried was an interesting, flavorful, and utterly unique taste experience of the highest quality. To give a few solid examples: Sweet Potato doughnut: a blast of sweet that isn't artificial! Despite how sweet this doughnut was, it left none of the weird after taste found in sweets that use artificial sweetners or flavors. Just straight (albeit VERY sweet) glorious, sweet potato goodness. An amazing treat for those who believe in all things sweet... and dessert for breakfast. If you go in looking for a particularly sugary treat, this is your doughnut. And it was nice dense and filling, for those who like that style of doughnut over the more fluffy/light variety (Glazed has plenty of both). Berry/Goat Cheese filled doughnut: didn't particularly taste the goat cheese, but still found it a pleasant, filled doughnut that is NOT like your typical jelly filled doughnut. The filling is nice and smooth and not overwhelmingly or cloying sweet. Both consistency/texture and flavor were juuuust right. Don't consider this in the league (or even the same family) of jelly doughnuts from the chains! Chocolate Curry: the most interesting flavor combination on a doughnut ever- and by golly it works. That's the beauty of some of the more exotic flavors/flavor combos- they really work! And you won't find them elsewhere, which makes it a double treat. I can't even describe what this tasted like, which pleases me to absolutely no end. Cider doughnut: This is a safe bet for the less adventurous, I appreciated that it was a more dense doughnut, which made it very filling and satisfying. I was afraid by the looks it might be bland (moreso next to all the other choices) but no- it was just fine- a bit more subdued than the more in your face, over the top flavors, but extremely tasty even in comparison. I would make a few recommendations: Go in a group, get a bunch and try a little of each. Be adventurous for at least one. Go often. I love, love, love unique and creative flavors- not just for the sake of weird, but to find new combinations and flavors I never would have dreamed up. Glazed is not your average doughnut shop. Their doughnuts are high quality, worth extra, and fun and exciting. Really, this place is a gem. An absolute gem. If you like foods you can't get just anywhere, this is your kind of place. One of a kind and plenty of options to keep you coming back!

By far, the best doughnuts I have ever had! Their menu changes everyday, which keeps things fun! There is always something for everyone. The staff is so nice and always helpful. We ordered one of everything on the menu for our Hanukkah dessert and as usual, not disappointed! If you are in town, definately stop in. They sell out quickly so get there early! They open at 9 on the weekends and usually have a line by 9:05.

Items selected: Glazed Cannoli Lemon Old Fashioned Raspberry Black and White (chocolate filled horn, powdered sugar) Cookies n' Cream Apple Bacon Fritter Having been to my fair share of doughnut shops, both the oldschool variety and those representing the new artisan style, I was excited to visit Glazed Gourmet when we first arrived in Charleston but finding the store sold out minutes after noon on Sunday the experience would be delayed until Tuesday, an early morning stop finding a full selection of fried dough from which a half dozen plus one options were selected, the total bill just under $20 with an average tip. Yet another Charleston eatery touting a local-seasonal approach with dough, glaze, and fillings all homemade plus no preservatives or artificial flavors our tasting of doughnuts began with the simple glazed version and moving on to other yeasted selections including the raspberry and filled cookies n' cream everyone agreed that although the flavors were good, particularly the raspberry, the dough itself was seemingly overworked and stretchy with a spongelike mouthfeel that was generally off-putting no matter how 'fresh.' Focusing next on the cake options, textures fared better in both the tangy lemon and inspired cannoli with light mascarpone and nutty notes, but moving next to the 'fritter' the same issue recurred - an unpleasant stretch to the dough while the pastry itself was more a filled yeasted doughnut than a true fritter where the apples are integrated in the dough. Last, and certainly not least, the black and white horn...if only every doughnut at Glazed Gourmet was this delicious they would definitely be onto something - the texture something like a Hungarian Nut Horn with a ribbon of chocolate coursing the inside making the powdered sugar mess entirely worthwhile.

Fantastic donuts & some of the best I've ever had! The reason for the 4 stars is the fact that they barely had any donuts left & it was only 9:30 in the morning. Maybe they could make some more? When we walked back past the store around 11ish it was already closed for the day. Seems kinda crazy to make a very limited number of donuts & then close the doors when sold out. Not sure how that business model works. It is definitely pricey, so maybe that's how.

I am a huge fan. We have started making this our place for fun special occasions. I definitely look forward to coming here and having a treat. People just need to get up early if they don't like seeing the shop closed. I love the raspberry and the honey bun. The coffee is decent too.

BLACK AND WHITE DOUGHNUTS FOR THE MOTHERFLIPPIN WIN! Seriously, melt in your mouth doughnuts that will make you sooooo damn guilty but it is worth it when it touches your lips. The only kind I've had are the black n whites. I can't get away from them! They're like chocolate croissants dusted all over in powdered sugar.

I was presented with an awesome opportunity, but on one dreadful condition: I had to wake up at 5:00 a.m. Say whaaaaaat? Yes. My friend Eric and I were invited to Glazed Doughnuts to learn about the doughnut-making process. There aren't many reasons for which I'd wake up before dawn, but sugar is definitely one of them. That, and if Zac Efron was knocking at my door. Just saying. So anyway, back to doughnuts. Culinary Institute of Charleston graduate and aspiring chef Allison Smith and her boyfriend, Mark Remi, opened up Glazed less than a month ago, on October 12th. In just a short time, they have become quite popular, and often have lines waiting outside the door each morning. Allison, Mark, and Allison's mother were generous to show us behind the scenes. The process is pretty darn cool. The base for the dough is made and left to rise. The dough is then put into a really cool machine that punches out doughnut shapes and drops them into the fryer. The doughnuts are flipped several times to ensure they are evenly cooked, then removed to cool. Then it's time to decorate....and they always look like little masterpieces. The Pumpkin Spice doughnut hit the spot on this chilly morning, as it would, well, any morning. The Purple Goat (berry goat cheese filling with lavender glaze) was out of this world. The flavor combo seems intimidating, but trust me, just do it. Go on kids, get your doughnut on.

Amazing! Got donuts on our way out of town and were so glad we did. I am a donut expert and these were truly gourmet--soft and pillowy, plenty of flavor in both the dough and frosting, and an all-around delicious experience I will gladly repeat whenever in Charleston.

There's a reason this place was voted best bakery in Charleston for two years in a row. The doughnuts are soft and sweet, the glaze is subtle but full of flavor. I love the story behind how Glazed got started, and it's easy to see (and taste) why this place became such a hit. It's easy to locate and offers simple beverages to go with your doughnuts. I went on a Sunday and I would recommend getting there as early as possible. Apparently the church crowd cleaned them out of most of their flavors and only a few were left. We had a few options which included Raspberry, Glazed, and Cinnamon Sugar, none of which were disappointing. We were among the last customers at about 11:00 AM since the supply had ran out so quickly. While my group of 3 ate, the sign was switched to Closed and a few people were turned away. Get there early and check this place out, it's something you shouldn't miss if you're walking around downtown and need a sugary treat.

GLAZED! They were SO packed when we went. Which, I didn't actually understand after tasting the donuts. I tried the pumpkin spice cake donut and the glazed raspberry one. Both were pretty yummy, but.... I thought they were a little underwhelming, they were more subtle in flavor and sweetness. That can definitely be a good thing, but they came off as a little bland to me. They definitely tasted unique and more healthy/wholesome than your typical donut but... I kinda missed the indulgent, super sweet feeling I normally get from a donut. All in all, they're not bad but nothing MIND BLOWING. (And maybe not for you if you like your donuts sugary and more indulgent) Still better than your average donut.

Pretty cool twist on donuts. Nothing mind blowing but good if you're passing by and looking for something other than cup cakes and ice cream. Maple and Bacon Glazed is good without being so unique that it's overwhelming.

I've only been here once, but it was delicious! I love their creativity and friendliness. It's a must try if you're here for a visit. I wish they stayed open longer, but it's understandable when you're sold out!

I've been coming to Glazed since they first opened, and the people there are always the most positive, the doughnuts so delicious, that I haven't lost my initial desire to keep coming back! Personal favorites include: Raspberry, Purple Goat, Black & White, and pretty much everything on the menu. Also: their coffee is quite good, no reason to pass that up when you drop by. Bonus: if you're a Couchsurfer visiting Charleston, tell them James sent you :)

Finally in the area during open doors of this bakery. It was around 2pm and there were only 5 flavors left, maybe 1.5 dozen donuts total left. I selected the raspberry glazed donut and a salted caramel apple donut. The raspberry glaze is saturated with flavor of fresh raspberries which I enjoyed very much. The salted caramel was a bit too salty, but I enjoyed the apple pie-esque filling that topped this treat. The texture of each donut was fantastic and how a donut should be, however, it is outrageous that in order to get a true donut in all of the charleston area, you have to shell out $2-$3 EACH with the only "deal" being buy 11 get the 12th free...no donut will ever be good enough to pay $22 and upward for a dozen. It is definitely highway robbery at its best, and had I known before entering the doors, well...I still would have wanted to try one to see what the fuss was about. These donuts taste like all the great mom and pop bakeries back in California and WA, and those would set you back 50cents to $1, maybe $2 if it was an extra, extra large pastry. I did review their website in hopes of a menu with pricing, but there were no prices to be seen (accessed via mobile browser). You shouldn't have to pay this much to get a moderately good donut! I did enjoy the tastes I had, but I have a very hard time justifying a return, even if this region is lacking in donuts and Glazed happens to have a wonderful sounding menu.

  • Sarah K.

The donuts here were pretty underwhelming for me. I'd heard so much about this place so my husband and I were excited to finally check it out. We each got two donuts to go. Since it was in the afternoon a lot of the really yummy sounding choices were sold out. I got a regular glazed and a raspberry donut. My husband got a cinnamon twist thing and a bacon maple donut. I had both of mind and sampled his cinnamon. They all tasted pretty average. The raspberry was probably the best and the raspberry icing was a nice flavor but it wasn't anything special. I honestly think Dunkin and Krispy Kreme do a better glazed. The cinnamon twist was kind of dry. I didn't try the maple bacon since I'm vegetarian but my husband said it tasted like a plain glazed donut with bacon on top. Not impressed. We're not really junk food people but when I feel like splurging we'll stick with Jeni's ice cream down the street or the nearby chocolatier.

I want to give them 5 stars but alas I didn't get any of my top ten donuts wish list while visiting. Over $2 for my black and White seemed a bit pricey especially compared to my favorite donut places back home. It was light and fluffy with rich chocolate inside. I liked it but I wouldn't go out of my to get it again. I was hoping to try the Charleston but I guess people here love it. One must get here before 11 to have any choice on their donut. I also ordered coffee which was decent. The entire place is pretty nice and I would enjoy this place if I lived in the area but I would come earlier.

Welcome to your new crack! Maple bacon donuts! Really a donut with Bacon and it is incredible! Get there early before they are sold out! A wonderful daily selection that is posted on FaceBook when they open.

This place rocks. Tons of awesome flavors, super fresh, super tasty. Whenever I travel I do my best to check out multiple local donut shops. Glazed Gourmet on King Street did not disappoint. I'd rank them top 5 nationwide that I've been to. Don't see what anyone would be able to complain about. Keep up the good work!

I had the orange glazed pistachio donut and it was one of the best donuts I have ever had. I travel alot across the country for work and am always looking for places like this to try. I will be back again tomorrow to see what other flavors they might have. Friendly service also.

The raspberry doughnuts are riveting. I had one around noon and it still tasted damn fresh and was chock full of razzie flavor. I was razzle dazzled. The pineapple cream cheese was less fresh and a little too sweet - they might need to rework that one. Gimme more.

The best doughnut experience of my life- I descended into a visibly bad mood (to the chagrin of my poor husband) because I stopped again on our last morning in Charleston for another doughnut fix, only to find that they did not open til 8am (I think) on Sat/Sun and we had to leave empty-handed to catch our train. There are no bad donuts, granted, unless it's been sitting there for more than an hour. As with all fried foods, its freshness and deliciousness are directly correlated. At Glazed, it appears that donuts are fried in small batches and sold immediately. Plus they are HUGE and "meaty" donuts, with lots of cushiony and airy interior to chomp through. Don't miss this if you're in Charleston.

Easily the best donuts in the city. I highly recommend the maple bacon and the chocolate with sprinkles, though I'm sure all their other donuts are great (e.g. apple cider, glazed, black and white). The staff is friendly and efficient. The decor is inviting without being isn't overly fussy. An excellent choice for an unhealthy breakfast.

We had the chocolate with sprinkles, piña colada and a maple back . They were good but not the best doughnut I have had and not worth $2.50 each. Worth stopping as a treat once.

It might be that there is such a strong need for artisanal doughnuts in Charleston that Glazed gets locals (and perhaps even tourists) excited. But I've been spoiled by shops elsewhere (in particular Dough in Brooklyn) and Glazed cannot touch the best of the lot. The tiramisu with coffee beans and cream filling was so sweet it was nearly inedible. The plain glazed doughnut, the presumptive namesake of the shop, was likewise horrid. It left a funny, artificial and plastic aftertaste on the palate. The highlights-- if that is not too strong a description-- seemed to be the the cake-based doughnuts (lemon as well as sweet potato). The glazed version of maple frosted doughnut with bacon bits was decent but not great. All in all, the frostings are too sweet and taste commercial. I wouldn't come here unless you're absolutely desperate for a doughnut.

I see all of these positive reviews of this place and begin to wonder what went wrong with my experience, oh wait..my LACK of an experience. Then I take a look at Google Reviews and see some folks had the same experience I had, and the mental train is back on its tracks. Doesn't make sense? First, these might be the best tasting doughnuts ever, and I couldn't argue, I wouldnt know. To clarify, I have attempted to indulge here 3 times. The first time I got in my car and drove from Mount P. slightly before noon, this place was closed. Ok whatever. 2nd time, I walked from MUSC, around 11am, got there, saw two girls walking out the front door, and locking it, just as I was turning the corner on King. THIRD time was this morning. I leave MUSC at 8AM. Get to the this shop at 8:12AM and do you know what I see as I get closer and closer to the glass paneled doors I have YET to step foot in?? You guessed it. Nobody. I see a piece of copy paper with a sign that says "Closed for Business. Equipment Failure" A smiley Face. Hilarious. Im done with with this place. This review is about BUSINESS. Not their food. If you have a doughnut shop, or any shop for that matter that apparently has something the consumer wants, open until 3PM, supply and demand says keep the placed stocked with SOMETHING that will probably last until 3PM. Or at least past noon! Open until 3 or "until we run out" is not cute, its not funny, its not quirky, its annoying for the customer. I have to guess, or call (and thats if you answer the phone) to ask if you have anything available past 8 or 9 am?? Thats ludicrous. Either close at 11am, or keep the the place stocked up with something. Even if this place had doughnuts that made you fly, I wouldnt set foot in this place... well maybe I would try again...but until that day comes, Ill stick to WELL STOCKED DD.

Okay maybe I don't get it. Unless these guys have a business model of "playing hard to get," they've got problems. They close shop early and some days (like today, Saturday morning) they just aren't open at all. I actually, finally found them open one Saturday morning and went in and ordered a doughnut. It was good. But while I was sitting and eating my doughnut they went and locked the door and put the "closed" sign out. They had no more donuts. It was about 10 o'clock in the morning. People kept walking up to the door and trying to get in. They could see me and a couple other people sitting and eating our doughnuts. How weird that a business would turn away customers. Many will never return. I might but I won't go out of my way to do so.

Decent selection and I enjoyed it quite a bit. I will definitely go back to try the other selections. I am not a big fan of close when you are out but we are early birds so its not a huge issue for us. If we can find a local shop open more consistently we will frequent them over this place for that reason but I get it and understand why they do it. Overall it was a nice quick place to stop by on the way to the Saturday market. Can't wait to try the fritter.
