Everything I know about Bourbon I learned at the Cocktail Club. I have been to Cocktail Club 10 or more times since they have opened. This means I have taken part in the differences in experience other Yelper's have had. Your experience depends on WHEN YOU GO and should be tailored as such. If you want a hip, trendy lounge on upper king to party at while sipping on expensive craft cocktails, then head to Cocktail Club on Friday and Saturday nights. When it's slammed and you can barely get to the bar, are you going to get the bartenders undivided attention? Probably not, but you will have a great time if that is what you're after. Want to grab a pre-dinner drink or maybe a nightcap with that special someone? Head over during the week or early on the weekend. Cocktail club has an upscale/romantic vibe at the right time and if you sit in the right area. The drinks are still pricey, but expected at such an establishment. Maybe you are looking for a quieter experience with amazing service, unbelievable prices, and bourbon-tastic beverages? Yes... Yes... Yes. Then your time to go would be very specific. On Wednesday evenings from 5pm-7pm. This, my friend, is my favorite time at Cocktail Club. A time called... Bourbon Happy Hour. It is during this time that ALL, and I repeat ALL bourbons/whiskeys are $5 (typical range being $6-$20 per shot). I discovered this by stopping in one Wednesday at this time and was told about this magical special. I let the bartender know that my knowledge on bourbons/whiskeys was limited, but that I was interested in quenching my thirst for knowledge with the brown liquid. Over the next few months I stopped in on random Wednesday's, even if I only had time for one drink, to continue my education. If it was a bartender I had not dealt with yet, I always explained my intentions of looking to experiment with different flavors and differentiate which spirits I enjoyed and those that I did not. I was always welcomed with a wealth of knowledge and explanations to each particular drink. Never once was I treated like an idiot for not knowing jack about what I was looking for. I was even offered books from behind the bar to read the history of bourbon and what is legally considered bourbon (Yes it is defined by our government) while I sipped my Kentucky hooch. Now, when I do show up on a busy night and squeeze my way through to the bar, or snag a waitress hustling back with a handful of orders I can say "Could I please have a Jefferson Rye Manhattan on the rocks?" And the bartender will get me exactly what I asked for.

Had drinks here around 6pm on a Saturday. The bartender was great and the selections on the drink menu were interesting and tasty. I liked that the drink I had was made with Hat Trick Gin which comes from the local Highwire Distillery down King Street we had visited earlier that day. Although there were not many people considering the strange time of day but the dark ambiance and speakeasy type feel with the exposed walls was really cool and a nice place to grab a good strong cocktail after a long day of touring the city!

My husband and I grabbed a couple drinks here on Sunday evening. We loved the vibe, interesting cocktail list, great bar tender, etc. We had plans so we had to scoot out before the live band started. If we're ever in Charleston again, we'll definitely be coming back here!

Preface: bachelor party looking to do bachelor party things. Ended up at cocktail club 2 out of 3 nights in charleston with a group of 13 guys. Why cocktail club? Maybe it was the line. Maybe it was recommended. Either way, it was a solid choice. There was live music and some lounge areas. The patio was a great area for the group and we had good service there. Drinks are moderately priced, but everything is obviously better than NYC prices. It's a nice mix of locals and visitors like ourselves. Even though I'm not a fan of waiting in line, this place is solid. Hopefully I can come back for a meal.

If I could do 2.5 stars, I probably would. We went in around 9:45, planning to snag a seat, eat something small, and hang around for the band at 10:30. Not much going on in the food/snack department. We went with a charcuterie selection, one of which was - literally - a sliced-up jerky snack stick. Gross. The cocktails on the menu sound interesting, but my friend and I ordered two different drinks each and all of them were much too heavy on the simple syrup, and kinda light on the booze. After that, I went with a tried and true Old Fashioned, specifically asking them to use very little simple syrup, but it still ended up too sweet. The interior of the place is cool, and the crowd is decent, which is the only reason I went for 3 stars rather than 2.

What a sexy little bar! Walking up the stairs you are greeted with warm mood lighting, exposed 4x4s, leather couches and a massive bar which one can only assume is modeled after Gatsby's library. Upon entry my girlfriends and I were greeted by a leather bound booklet of specialty cocktails and an entire wall of bottles of possibility. They may specialize in cocktails and spirits, but they also have a small-but solid wine list with choices from Argentina, Spain and the US. They also have a VIP program that I would take advantage of it I lived in the area. It may not have been the scene we were looking for this particular evening, so my visit was short... but this place is well worth a return visit. I am officially enamored.

Came here on a Thursday night for some live music. Not a huge line, no cover, so off to a good start. Not a lot of bar staff compared to the amount of people that started pouring in, so service wasn't so hot. At one point, the bartender served a guy who walked up after me AND the guy that walked up behind me before serving me. I'm guessing they must be regulars, but that kind of blatant favortism cost you a better tip, buddy. That being said, I did like the venue and the clientele, so still going to give Cocktail Club 4* even though prices are a bit higher than elsewhere. Guess this is the Thursday night spot.

This is a hidden haven right in the heart of Upper King Street. Located upstairs above the Machitoch with its own narrow stairwell entrance point, the Cocktail Club is a throwback to the old dimly lit prohibition era small intimate cocktail bars. With a charming selection of cocktails and small craft beer selection along with some choice wines, this meets all drinkers appetites. Their meat and cheese selections are a perfect compliment. A very intimate setting for groups as small as two or as large as 5-6. From couches to bar, there are places you can hide away for a private conversation or converse together and take selfies over a gin cocktail. Great place to spend a few hours. Cocktails, wine and sparkling wine will range from $10.00 and up.

This is a good place to try a drink before going somewhere else. I'm not sure they put much alcohol in my drink. I like the rooftop patio. Inside was pretty dark. The staff was nice.

After a fantastic dinner to kick off a night on the town for my friend's bachelorette weekend, we came to Cocktail Club to get the night started. The line was a little long, but it moved quickly. We got up there and were able to snag a table for our group. We ordered a round of drinks that were all pretty good. They also have a nice selection of popcorn with various seasonings. They had a bacon option that we couldn't get because of diet restrictions in our group, but another group was kind enough to let us try theirs. It was pretty tasty, but cold so I feel like it was much better when it was fresh. We went simple with olive oil and salt on our popcorn & I wasn't disappointed. The olive oil gave a great flavor to the popcorn and it wasn't too salty either. I'm not sure how their scene gets as the night progresses as we left after a round of drinks and the popcorn, but I liked the chill and relaxing atmosphere to start things off for our group. Don't let the line intimidate you, definitely give this place a shot!

This is the perfect after-date-drinks place. Unique cocktails, a dark cozy atmosphere and live music make for a great place to talk and have a few drinks (definitely better for 1 on 1, not groups). I had The Double Standard and a Cloak and Dagger while my date had a Rosy Cheeks. All delicious. We didn't take advantage of it but all bottles of wine are 1/2 price on Sunday. All in all a very solid cocktail bar.

Came here late night for drinks. It was okay, maybe it's because I'm older now and this seemed like a trendy place for the local college kids. Not a lot of room to sit.

This place is always amazing. Great place to begin your night while you still have appreciation for good beverages or to whine down before the night end. Either way, its a win.

Coming from DC, my boyfriend and I have very high standards for speakeasies and cocktail bars - cocktail club definitely delivered. The atmosphere and beautiful interior, it's wood beams and mood lightening, only enhanced the delicious cocktails. (Think of the library scene at the very beginning of Beauty and the Beast. With the sliding ladder... Except with booze) our favorite though was the delightful conversational bartenders who chatted with us before we headed to dinner. Definitely recommend!

Amazing cocktails with really good ambiance. Limited menu but worth a visit for cocktails and apps. Cocktails we tried that were very good - Apple of my rye, heads up.

We stopped in here Saturday night to grab a cocktail before heading to O-Ku for dinner and late night dancing. I opted for the double standard, Serrano infused gin, cucumber vodka, ginger, cilantro, and celery bitters. The first sip was delicious and then the serrano kicks in towards the end. It doesn't linger long, and I really thought that the first kick was exciting. I didn't think it was that crowded for 9:30, but it still took quite a bit of time for us to get the check, then find the server again to pay.

In the city known for its craft drinks, Cocktail Club stands at the forefront in a hauntingly beautiful space that near-perfectly suits the potable artistry at work behind the bar. As others have mentioned, timing is everything here, as weekend late nights can get so crowded here that you'll struggle to get an order in, while other times you will literally have the entire space to yourself. My wife and I particularly like the latter, and make this stop a "must" for pre-dinner drinks. A long staircase off Upper King gets you into what has to look like a speak-easy of yesterday. Small rooms with exposed wood-framing, old brick walls, and a dark and moody looking bar, complete with a sliding ladder for the bartender to access his arsenal. The lighting is always low and sets a great mood for getting into a serious drink. The leather-bound menu awaits with drinks divided up with standards and seasonal offerings. Take your time reading through each, as there are ingredients in almost every one that you've likely not seen elsewhere. Service is very knowledgeable here and happy to take the time explaining each of the drinks. The Double Standard is the flagship here, with Serrano gin and celery bitters. The drink literally evolves on the palette from cold and refreshing to the slow burn of the pepper. This is skill and is meant to be sipped over conversation. The same could be said for most any drink here, which uses interesting individual ingredients and rare spirits to create something each time that is much more than just the sum of its parts. I also have to give mention to the small kitchen here, staged on the far side of the bar. They are still getting their footing here, but there's plenty of promise here with a mix of sandwiches and appetizers that are worthy of their drink counterparts. From simple popcorn made in duck fat to heartier fare. We enjoyed a nice cucumber bruschetta that was light yet flavorful, and a great meal starter. Marinated diced cukes served of fresh local-baked baguette. It's was tempting to lick the plate clean! Checks are delivered in an old book and just add to the charm here of feeling like you're in a space that was forgotten be repurposed for those in the know. This is a must-stop on our trips to town and should be for anyone who appreciates a cocktail that stands heads above the rest of the crowd.

Fun time on a Friday night. Nice vibe and energy. If you like bacon, try the popcorn. If you don't, ask for plain popcorn.

In looking at the web site for The Cocktail Club and reading the other Yelp reviews, I was very excited. There were many cocktails to choose from with many unique and interesting ingredients. However, when we got to the bar, the reality was much different. The selection is much narrower with only about 10 drinks to choose from (none of which are the unique offerings which got me so excited when looking at the web site). Furthermore, I was not overly impressed with the cocktails that we ordered. The atmosphere is pretty cool with the exposed brick and lighting. The bartenders were friendly, but you are better off going to The Gin Joint if you want unique cocktails in Charleston.

My husband and I LOVE this place. The drinks are awesome and the bartenders are more awesome- super friendly, talented, and accommodating. We moved to Charleston from NYC a year ago and, as a foodie and mixology bar lover, I was thrilled when we found the Cocktail Club. It is every bit as good as, if not better than, the best spots in NYC and way better than the other mixology spots in town. The Double Standard and the Antique Modern are fantastic and the bartenders are happy to make drinks based upon your preferences if you're in the mood to do something different... And the brie grilled cheese panini is the best I've ever had (especially with coppa)! It has a great outdoor space and happy hour specials. Thank you Kaeli, Ryan, Joe and Matt for a fabulous year of drinks and service!

The décor is a clone of the Macintosh below it but with a lounge feel. Unfinished walls with exposed four by fours and leather couches. I got the double standard cocktail, excellent.

This is currently my favorite bar in Charleston. I admire the prohibition-era style and classic cocktails. The bartenders are well-educated in their craft. I've always received great service here. The "Double Standard" is their best cocktail!

First time with the hubby. Amazing is all I can say. Definitely not for the handicapped, need to come up a flight of stairs to an amazing ambiance of heavy wood, and iron. Great atmosphere and the only thing out of place is the TV in one room with football on iy. No one is watching it. A sexy romantic vibe in here. Had their version of a colada and it was amazing. I'd day the best drink I have ever had. An infusion of pecan laced rum infused with lime cream and other loveliness. Get the bacon laced popcorn and bruchetta. We will be back. So love this place.

  • Rebecca K.

Definitely a hip bar. They had live music starting at 1030, so we grabbed some drinks, sat down, and enjoyed the band. I got the Strong and Stout and the Double Standard. The Strong and Stout was good (Left Hand Milk Stout with some chocolate espresso foam) but the Double Standard was the clear winner - light, refreshing, and nice and strong. The drinks were a liiiittle pricey, but I suppose you're paying for the atmosphere and creativity.

  • Jason K.

Great atmosphere and drinks. Was highly recommended by locals but it was dark and we were the only people in the place. Great place to converse and have a drink but if you are looking for something lively this may not fit the bill. In their defense I may have hit it on an off night as when we walked by the next night there was a huge line to get in.

After walking by a few rooftop bars with lines outside, my group of friends and I found Cocktail bar and headed upstairs with no wait! We arrived around 10 and were able to find an open couch on a Friday night--so far so good! The drinks were on the pricey side but overall were pretty good. I thought the 'rosy cheeks' was a little too sweet, but had a good flavor. They don't have any beers on tap which is a bit of a bummer but their beer list was on point. It never got too crowded and the vibe was very laid back and great for conversation. The two downsides were that the service was a little slow (maybe it's a southern thing and I've been in NYC too long to have appropriate patience) and it was a little dark (if there were xmas lights strung across the top it would have been perfect!). Really liked the overall experience here and the bacon popcorn was yummy (and only $3!).

Awesome place....the atmosphere along with the decor is superb. Easily missed but worth the hunt.Located in the renovated attic portion of an old shoe factory there is a set of stairs to climb. Rooftop patio is well lit and has space heaters if you go during off season. Service, drinks, music and the entire package makes it a must go to place. The bacon popcorn off the chain.

  • Kirsten D.

Interesting menu, great ambiance, adequate service and less than stellar cocktails. The drinks were not very strong and pretty pricey. Overall the cocktails we had were very sweet and watered down. We had the popcorn which was delicious but a large portion so be prepared to share.

My wife and I do not often head out for post-dinner drinks, but after having dinner at the Macintosh (which is right below the Cocktail Club), we decided to give it a shot. It was a Saturday evening, around 8:30pm. We loved it. We were able to quickly find two comfy seats in one of the three rooms. The Double Standard lived up to the hype - wow. We munched on the bacon spiced popcorn (a steal at $3) the entire time we were there. Service was attentive and kind. We'll head back here when we return to Charleston.

It is obvious that Charleston is a cocktail city. Every place around has them. Even the beer bars. Though, this is one of the best IMO. I can draw a lot of parallels from Houston bars. For one Anvil is the innovator (aka Gin Joint), then plenty of other places start relatively quickly, or at least go back to the cocktail roots of the area. In Houston it is Captain Fox Heart, here this is the next thing. Co owned with The Macintosh downstairs. As you clime the stairs, the long wood bar is in front. Again, like most places around, exposed brick. A few lounge areas with comfy chairs and couches. A great patio area outside. Dark and dimly lit, not to mention this is like going back in time. The music that is played is immaculate. Louis Armstrong, Billie Holiday, Benny Goodman...I love it. The service is top notch. Just like The Gin Joint, they know their cocktails. What I like better here, is that the bartenders are more accessible and it is a much wider space. Even though you would not expect it coming up the stairs. Easier access and a less crowded bar means better service. Anyway, the Old Fashion is great as is the Manhattan. You can have it made with any type of booze you want, with or without ice. The cocktails are as good here as they are at the Gin Joint, or Anvil (in Houston) for that matter. Along with a few quality beers in bottles and cans. Did I mention there is an excellent selection of Bourbons and Scotches? There is a small food menu of chacuterie and cheeses that are excellent. Overall, a great place to grab a drink and a snack. Before or after dinner downstairs (which is one of the best restaurants in town)

Cocktails were great. Top notch ingredients, original recipes, carefully crafted. Atmosphere was laid back. Friendly bartenders. If you want a quality cocktail without pretentiousness, this is the place to go.

I come here every Thursday: the drinks flow with an unquestionable quality, the staff are gorgeous, and the decor is classic Charlestonian. Whether you come here for the Double Standard or the Nutella pressed sammich, you'll be sure to stay for the drinks and the atmosphere. Thursday night is David Higgins! You won't regret it. Dress classy and keep the fun vibes coming.

Great venue, solid drinks and strong staff. I think one of the highlights has to be the separation of areas. There are a few rooms and a back deck to sit and enjoy a cocktail. Each time you visit try a new area!

Funny how the first picture on yelp has #hipster. This is far from hipster. I feel like I am in Abercrombie and Fitch! The music, the people & the disappointment... The atmosphere is amazing, it's a shame the music kills it. Literally.

  • Max E.

Woah this place is cool. Please disregard that photo with the #hipster on it - this place isn't your "hipster" bar. I came in by chance when I saw the $5 Wednesday bourbon happy hour sign in the window. It's kind of a small entrance - just 1 door leading to some stairs. Could be easy to miss, but glad I didn't. Got upstairs and it is a very cool vibe here. Leather couches, wood lined walls, old school bar with a ladder to get up to the top shelf. Very cool set up. I got in just as the band was warming up, only a handful of people in the bar at that time, very relaxed vibe. I told the bartender I knew nothing about bourbon and he set me up well, picking some of his favorites to let me have for the $5 deal. It's from 4-7 only on Wednesday. Can't miss it. Needless to say, really cool vibe, good drinks, and good people. I'll be back here again

Giving it 4 not 5 stars because it took a long time to get in (even though the line looked short). Other than that, I loved this place. Really cool, trendy vibe. Indoor bar and also has a spacious outdoor patio with ample seating, which was nice for the summer. I asked the bartender to make me a drink based on my taste and it was SO good!

Pretty cool place and atmosphere. Drinks are really good...a little expensive but good during happy hour. The food is pretty good and priced right for what you get. Definitely recommend if you want a cool place to talk to your friends about that you have been. Also try Macintosh down stairs......

The bacon fat popcorn made to order is AMAZING and you cannot beat the price!...especially after a few delicious cocktails. Love the back patio as well!

  • Nicola B.

They have a nice patio, but the table service was horribly slow, and the drinks were not good at all. I got the rosy cheeks, and it was too sweet and syrupy. The music was great, but that's pretty much the only redeeming factor.

went to the rooftop bar for a drink great happy hour great service small space so get there early or very late if you want a seat picture a dark wood box 30' x 30' x 8' tall (no top) - that is..

You have to know where you are going to find it. There's little markings and it is upstairs from the street. Yelp is actually the only way that we were able to find it. We were there on a Saturday night, so it was quite busy. However, we found a couch to cozy up on and people watch. The drinks were pretty good, but because it was so busy, it took a while to get them. The place is unfinished (i.e. completed walls -- there is only framing between rooms) -- but it was intentional and I liked it. There is also an outdoor space -- but it was full, so we stayed inside. The crowd was diverse -- young couples, groups of friends, parents with adult children. I always like when this happens. Whomever did the music selection -- spot on with interesting, ecclectic choices. I would love a copy of the evening's playlist. If ever in Charleston again, I would surely be back for another visit.

It was completely dead when i walked in, which was fine by me. The space is beautiful and welcoming, a perfect place to sit and sip. I was greeted by freshly popped bacon fat popcorn which was delicious. I've had it elsewhere where it seemed to be trying to hard, but here, it made sense and was warm and enjoyable. We also ordered a cheese plate which had a delicious and very blue blue cheese. Next, and most importantly, were the drinks. I had something with habaneros and beer. It came in a tall glass and had a habanero pepper frozen into a block of ice. I couldn't decided if I thought this was clever or gimmicky, but either way, my drink didn't inspire me to stick around for another round. That being said, I would give it another shot the next time around.

  • Dan C.

The cocktail club is amazing. The cocktails were classy, but new and inventive. I really enjoyed the time I spent there. I went on a Saturday night during Fashion Week 2013 and was able to find a cozy little corner to sit on some comfortable furniture, listen to music, and have some great cocktails. I would definitely recommend this place, especially if you're coming in from out of town to experience a little more upscale Charleston experience than you'd find in the rest of the city. Decor was awesome.

  • Kelly B.

I wasn't impressed. We ordered the double standard, rosy cheeks, and tequila mockingbird. The double standard is sweet with a spicy kick. The sugar is a little overwhelming. The rosy cheeks had nice presentation, but it also was overwhelmingly sweet. The tequila mockingbird was over salted, but had a strong tequila taste (it's redeeming quality). For a bar called cocktail club, I would expect the drinks to be better quality than what I make at home.

Cool speakeasy atmosphere with the old brick highlighted in so many places around Charleston. Busy and distracted bartenders, yet it's a good place to have a drink with a group.

This place was spectacular! Wonderful, warm, comfortable place that we immediately felt relaxed in. The wait staff was great. The drink menu wonderful. Just wish I could have spent more time enjoying the atmosphere!

Maybe I went on a bad night (Sunday), but the crowd here was awful. I'm talking maximum-strength Summer's Eve D-bag material. One guy was high as a kite and kept pestering me at the bar about my "stylin'" drink while he downed a Bud Light. Seriously. I had the "new favorite fall cocktail." It was OK but nothing to write home about. I noticed an unfamiliar ingredient listed in the description on the menu and asked one of the bartenders about it. He said he didn't know what it was either. Fail!! The reason I come to bars like this and pay $10+ for a cocktail is to receive a cocktail education and to soak up a sophisticated atmosphere. Neither of my goals were achieved. The outdoor patio is nice and could be a great date spot. But if you're a cocktail connoisseur like me and over the age of 30, go down to the street to Belmont.

  • Hana M.

King street is a conglomerate of vastly different scenes - it's easy to wander into the wrong place, have a disturbingly strange night, or give up all together and go back to the country. When I walked into the cocktail club it was not as rowdy as near by places. The higher priced drinks draw a more refined crowd, yet the waitresses and the people there were friendly, grooving along with the live music, and a tad buzzed. This is my kind of scene! The waitress asked me what kind of girl I am - a vodka girl, a bourbon girl, a whiskey... I told her I am a tequila or rum kinda girl and I don't like anything sweet and she told me what to order! Something "sunset." This had infused tequila, juice and rosemary... My waitress has great intuition. I loved my drink!! It was a good size too. It's beautiful and intimate inside and there are sofas and various sections to sit at, a great meeting place when you want to hear your friends talk and sip on artisan cocktails. With so many places in this area, you can do no wrong with the cocktail club if you are a chillaxed person who wants a good drink.

Friendly staff, great atmosphere and a cocktail menu to make you salivate. Knowledgable mixology to present unique and flavorful concoctions that will fulfill any palate. The atmosphere is dark and cozy with a smile behind the bar. (Extra: watching the "library ladder" to fetch the top shelf liquors is always a joy)

Came here on a Thursday night. A decent band was playing. I love the look of the place. The rooftop was still wet from the rain so we stayed inside at the bar. Good cocktail menu. Ryan is an excellent bartender! We will be coming back next time we are in town.

Way to go Cocktail Club! I usually dislike super cool bars--but your servers were all happy people who made me feel invited to come to your bar and be super cool with them. I absolutely hate paying $10 per drink--but you made me realize that sometimes $10 can pay for something creative, fresh, and tasty. I dread and avoid going out with large groups--but your patio and punchbowls embraced our large group and helped us be friends and be merry. [FYI Our group tried Classic Pimms Punch and Indigo Orchard and both were awesome. I mean awesome.]

We really enjoyed this bar. Great speakeasy atmosphere, friendly bartender and chef that were happy to give suggestions. Chef even brought out some buttermilk ice cream he had made that day for me, even though it wasn't on the menu. Amazing. We went for drinks, but would go back for food as well next time.

Upper King, across from Basil, next door to The Macintosh, you will see a door with the letter "C". Go upstairs to the Cocktail Club! The bar has a very rustic feel, exposed beams on the ceiling and older looking furniture (leather coaches and tables). I got the lavendar martini since they were out of the pear one. No beers on tap, but my friends got a belgian white, and amber, and a Bud. 5 beers and an $11 martini (standard for me since I live in Hawaii and just visiting Chas!) came out to $37. Not bad for 4 people. I really liked the vibe in here, and even though it wasn't busy on a Monday night at 6pm, my friends tell me that it can get really busy up here! :)

Romantically lit, cute little sitting areas and amazingly delicious drinks. I have only gone a few times during the week. I love the cocktail club for exactly that. Happy hour, conversation and a drink. I forget the exact drink I had but it had ginger and cucumber flavors if I remember and it was to die for!! Soo fresh and yummy. Either way, any drink I've tried has never disappointed.

Best $11 old fashioned! So delicious and such a cool laid back atmosphere. To be such an upscale place, they make it easy to order drinks even if you aren't an alcohol know it all. Great place to go on a date!

I'm rounding up from 3.5 stars. Admittedly-- and this is a commentary on me, not Cocktail Club-- this is not the type of place I typically find myself. I prefer a somewhat more low key scene, but on this particular night, I was not driving the train. Having met up with a friend for dinner, the fiance and I were persuaded by said friend (with the slightest encouragement from some well-priced wine from Virginia's on King) to venture on over. I'm glad we did-- it's a really unique bar, and very comfortable. At least one star for the novelty of being able to sit semi-outdoors in January (with space heaters, of course), something that is essentially unthinkable in my New England homeland. The lounge area is very cool as well-- great furnishings and lots of character.

Super swanky, posh, hip, ultra cool lounge for pre dinner cocktails! Late night scene is fun too. Bartenders are real mixologists. Drinks are inventive and fun! The lounge is so incredibly cool. They have an outdoor deck which is nice too. Great place to impress out of town friends!

A bit too pricey for my blood. I mean c'mon now... Your really going to charge $96.00 for a pour of the pappy 23 year.. Give me a break people. Basically you should just put it in a case unopened and just let people look at it. Don't insult me with that! Just down the street I can get it for 65$ and plus the bottle itself is only 250 retail, let alone what you cats paid. I know i know it's not going to be around at some point... But that's not now! Just put it away and wait till its out of circulation then bring it to pour. A real turn off for me. Not to mention the attitudes. I was told to throw back a $25 shot they served me at last call. If I don't have the time to enjoy a bourbon neat then don't serve it to me.

Excellent cocktails, but rather dour and sullen server. Great setting and location.

Not really a fan of this place. Kind of boring. No DJ, no dancing, stricly a lounge that isn't really classy. It's more or less a converted attic. The floor is always dirty and wet and there are limited tables to "lounge" in.

Wow. That's all I can say about the Cocktail Club. Me and the boyfriend agreed that this has got to be one of (if not the) best bars we have ever been to. (Dare I say I liked it more than the famed Milk and Honey in NYC.) We had Hibiscus Rose Vesper, the La Femme Violet (I can say without hesitation this was the most perfectly crafted cocktail that has ever crossed my lips), and another gin cocktail that the bartender created for us. It was beyond packed (as in when we left there was a deep line outside to get in) but with cocktails this good (and bartenders that awesome) I'd be more than happy to wait.

We stumbled upon this place by accident. There is nothing more than a "C" on the door so we were intrigued. After a flight of stairs we were in a cool, hip cocktail lounge in a beautifully renovated King St house. It was a Sunday night when we visited so there weren't many people there. But that was fine with us. My husband and I settled in to a pair of comfortable seats and tried a few of their cocktails. Everything we tried was unique and inventive. I especially appreciated their vintage glasses. Cocktails are pricey but special. Wasn't really a fan of the live musician that night but overall a good experience.

Visited Charleston and went here twice during our visit! Seriously so much fun. Rooftop deck with heaters! Really cozy intimate seating inside the bar. Huge bar with library ladder. Very very friendly staff. Unique drinks and beer selection! Must see bar when in Charleston!

Creative and tasty! Loved The Double Standard, The Antipasto Martini and The Married to the Mixologist. Great place to stop in before going to dinner at The Mac downstairs.

I've tried to like this place, I really have. And the cocktail servers are extremely nice and helpful. But the management of the entrance and the exits is absurd. One night they locked the front door while I was closing my tab and made me leave down a back alley staircase, myself and one other girl were forced to walk, unescorted down a dark alley at 2 am. I told them I did not want to go down the dark alley, as it did not seem safe, and they refused to let me go out the front door. Had I known the door was about to be locked, or that once it was locked I would have been forced to leave through the back into the dark, I would have left earlier. I know of no other bar in town that locks the front door and forces people out the back at 2 am. Additionally, the past two friday nights, my friends and I have been told the bar was at capacity and we could not enter. Last night, we stood and waited while ten people left the bar, and we were again told they were still at capacity. As we walked away, the bouncer let a girl walk in. I went back and asked him why she was allowed in and we weren't, and he told me that she knew the owners and it wasn't his call. He also told me it was only his second night working there, and he wasn't allowed to let anyone else in until some came down and told him he could start letting people in again. Hmm, I find this a questionable way to run a business. From my understanding, the back staircase (the one that leads to the dark alley), is open to people who are in the know, and the guy at the front door simply stands there to refuse to let people in. I understand fire codes, but this was ridiculous. Once inside, the atmosphere is pretty cool, a little dark, and the drinks are some of the most expensive drinks in town, which would be okay if it wasn't for the drunk college kids spilling them on you. And the bartenders are rather snobby, which, I believe part of being a bartender involves being nice to people, and not treating like they are stupid.

We came from downstairs at The Macintosh just to look. On a Friday evening, it was full to bursting with singles and parties of 30 something friends. good décor, great heated outdoor deck and a serious bar. The bartenders were very friendly and it was a pleasure to watch them work in balletic motion. We stayed because I saw a must-have dessert on the chalkboard - Foie Gras Crème Brulée. Perhaps it sounds revolting but it was fantastic - I don't know how the chef does it but he has my vote. Also he came out to talk to us because I was waxing lyrical which I always like - he didn't divulge his secret though...Light & fluffy underneath with a crispy layer of sugar and spices on top, served with honey drizzled toasts - ambrosia, that's all. So I don't know what it's like as a bar but this was the best dessert of 2011.
