There are so many great restaurants here in Charleston but Chez Nous is one of best already. The menu is always changing and innovative. The staff is warm and welcoming. Evidently this is the same group that has the nice wine bar on lower King. It might be a bit tough to find but it is well worth the search.

Three of us went last night to celebrate lots of exciting things happening in our lives. We started by having a glass of wine at the bar. We asked our bartender lots of questions about her favorite wines and tried her suggestions, a Rose and a Gamay; and then took her suggestion to have a 2010 St. Joseph with dinner. Rebecca was our waitress for dinner and she was amazing. She was patient and courteous, there when we needed her and left us alone when we didn't. We all had the head on shrimp for an appetizer. The shrimp was served over braised fennel which was amazing, very well balanced and delicate flavors created a rather complex dish. For our main dish we all had the steak frites, which was perfect. The fries were crispy and creamy at the same time. The steak was beefy and tender and topped with Bearnaise sauce. I could cover everything in Bearnaise sauce. Our wine selection was pretty amazing with both the beef and the shrimp. Desert was Les Canalés de Bordeaux and a glass of champagne. Everything was simply perfect. Understated, elegant, and personal. This is definitely going on my always go back to list.

After living across the street from Chez Nous since before it's opening, my interest in its menu has only grown from the beginning. Noting its focus on French cuisine and an ever changing menu, my foodie sensibilities were only heightened upon learning from their site that the menu was posted on Instagram daily, accompanied by beautiful photograph of each individual dish, placed in the natural light of their kitchen. Fueled by my curiosity and love for the Charleston food scene, I attended the restaurant a week ago, seeing off a good friend for three years on her journey to Italy with a great meal to remember us by. Starting off my meal with a chickpea soup with chorizo and shrimp was a light but flavorful beginning to the evening, creamy with a touch of that poignant hispanic spice from the sausage. Next followed a roasted chicken breast, baked with a mustard glaze so that the skin was crispy and tender. served with wild mushrooms and roasted potatoes, I could imagine oneself enjoying this dish in a typical French village without question. Ordering citrus and cinnamon ice cream for dessert was an easy choice, though I did get to enjoy the other offerings on the menu as well from my friend's choices. Everything about Chez Nous was everything I could have imagined. Intimate and welcoming, the service was nothing short of impeccable, with the chef herself coming the greet our table at the end of our meal. Not only was this meal one the best I could have ever thought of in Charleston, I'm lucky enough to support this wonderful place from right across the street, while watching the changing menu on my phone as I plan for the next night on the town.

I am calling on anyone who gives this place anything less than 5-stars to step down from their position as a Yelper, immediately. Straight up, you are a hater if you have anything negative to say about this hidden gem. If this isn't a 5-star experience, nothing will be. Do the world a favor and stay home from now on, sparing society from your misery.

May be better than FIG. 'Nough said. RIDONCULOUS food every time. Doesn't even matter what menu is.

As a brief visitor to Charleston, I sought to make the best of the city's dining choices. Even without having tried many places in my short stay, I can undoubtedly claim that Chez Nous must rank in the top tier. We enjoyed a thorough sampling of the brunch menu on a Sunday. It began with the bread basket and a homemade lavender blueberry jam, whose aroma heralded freshness and happiness. The quiche slice, though small for the price, was tasteful. My blue ribbon goes to the pasta, a healthy mound of al dente fettuccine bathing in a rich sauce of fresh tomatoes and other embellishments. The staff is amiable, accommodating and lively, all imbued with distinct professionalism and responsibility. I highly recommend Chez Nous to anyone with an appreciation for a fine culinary experience.

An absolute must if you want local and fresh entrees. The key to Chez Nous is to go during the week since they do not take reservations. The bar area is small but cozy and the outside garden has a community table under the stars. I ordered the smoked trout which is smoked on the premises. It was so light that it flaked in my mouth. The dressing was a perfect accoutrement to the frisée and trout I chose trigger fish that was pan seared. It looked like such a large portion that I could not finish it when our server placed it in front of me. I proved myself wrong and ate every bit of it. We ended the meal with a cheese plate of Kentucky cheeses and a fresh sliced baguette. It was a perfect end to a wonderful evening.

Phenomenal food, service, wine and atmosphere. Can't be beat. Easily in our top five in the city. Make it a priority to visit this gem!!!!

Delight-filled find in upper peninsula of #Charleston , typical of Southern Framce, northern Italy as reflected in the menu and the wonderful wine list . Menu changes daily and there are two starters and two mains.. Always fresh!!

One of the best meals of my life. Just a beautiful place, delicious meal, and great service. The decor can't be beat. It can be a very romantic place so perfect for a date. But don't fret...also a great place to go with friends or by yourself. Their menu is always changing and they post pictures on facebook and everyday I look on their page and wish I could eat everything every day. This was my favorite restaurant in Charleston when I visited.

We were actually sent here by our contractor to take a look at track lighting? Haha! We are doing a home renovation and needed some ideas for an exposed beam ceiling. This place was such a pleasant surprise. It's tucked back in a little alley in little house in our little town. It doesn't hold a lot of people, but it has a lot of character. In speaking with the bartender, we were told the name translates to "Our House" and that the concept was that you were at a friend'a house for dinner and would have whatever they were serving. We only had the appetizer, which was pork based, but was delicious. I had wine and the bartender was very knowledgeable about the wines and the selection. Overall, I think what struck me most was how romantic it was. I wished I was dressed up for a fancy occasion with my husband and eating dinner in a quiet corner. :) I would definitely recommend Chez Nous-if you're looking for wine knowledge, good food, or the most romantic atmosphere you can find. I felt slightly out of place when I told them we were there to drink wine and check out their track lighting--they were friendly and accommodating but seemed a bit taken aback. Although I'm sure that's not the everyday guest!

There really is nothing but positive things to say about this hidden gem French restaurant tucked away off Cannon street. Unless you are a picky eater, you may complain about the fact that the restaurant only offers 2 appetizers, 2 entrees and 2 desserts a day, with the menu changing daily. Check Instagram or Facebook to see what the Chef is serving that day- and chances are it's going to be delicious. All plates are french inspired, many times offering a soup and salad and some sort of fish, pasta or meat. I have been for both brunch and dinner and have yet to be served a plate I wasn't thoroughly impressed with. Dimly lit and tucked away in a picturesque building with limited seating, I find Chez Nous to be one of the most romantic spots to go for date night in Charleston. They don't take reservations so best to go early to secure a table. They do take your phone number down if the wait is long, giving you and your date time to stroll around king street and grab a drink somewhere while waiting. If on a date and not a picky eater, I recommend just ordering both appetizers and entrees to share and splitting a dessert. Or just saying "we will have one of everything please." Come on, you know you have always wanted to do that. Most appetizers run around $10-12, entrees around $24-$28 and deserts around $7, with the meal being worth every penny.

This is my new favorite restaurant in town! The setting is so charming and romantic, it forces you to be that annoying person taking photos of everything. Every dish we ordered was 100%. And service was impeccable. Heads up: the menu changes daily so follow them on instagram to see what's cooking for the day. This is especially helpful for you picky eaters -- there's only two starters and two entrees. Oh and they don't take resos!

It took me 15 to find a one-hour only parking spot. The food is very good. However, for a $300 bill for two people, Chez Nous only provides a two-entree, two appetizer menu with two lame desserts. In fairness, the bill included three sauvignon blanc wines and two Rose wines (22/glass where other restaurants would be $10/glass less). Zero parking. I has to ask for butter. The owner says, "This is a French restaurant. French restaurants don't serve butter." Really? There is a word for it.."Beurre". In a city overflowing with great restaurants, this one has great food cooked the way the chef likes it, period. Suggestion: look into Sous Vide. For a limited kitchen, you could offer a full menu and come closer to justifying the high price. Also, for this pricing, Cypress, Magnolia and Blossom offer free parking and the check average is less by $50 - $100. Final suggestion: rent space from the jerks that own the empty parking lot next to your restaurant. You are making enough money to do so...

What a charming place off a little side street in Charleston. Menu is very limited and new every day (and handwritten in beautiful but somewhat illegible script in French with English translation below) Same menu for lunch and dinner. We had lunch on the tiny porch and loved the setting. I had the smoked trout endive salad with potatoes & grapefruit pieces. Perfectly seasoned and dressed. For dessert we shared an excellent tarte tatin. Both of us felt like we were having a Paris lunch on a cute Charleston porch. The staff was very warm and friendly. We will definitely go back on our next trip to Charleston.

This place was AWESOME! Our friends in Charleston insisted we go there last Saturday in spite the fact that Chez Nous doesn't take reservations (always a red flag for me). Well, we arrived around 5:45 to be the only guests for a while. There are only two appetizers (salad or goat cheese stuffed peppers in our case), two entrees (lamb shank - fantastic - or fish - can't remember which), two desserts and one cheese plate on the menu any given day - but they are different any single day. Everything we had was fantastic. Accentuated by the fact that our server, Rebecca, must have been the best waitress we've had in a long, long time - if not ever. The wines she recommended were spot on (and not super expensive - actually the mark up seems to be just double the store price). Maybe that's because the owner, chef and staff meet before service to discuss the best pairings. We will DEFINITELY be back here next time we go to Charleston.

Yes, it's as good as everyone says! Daily, check out their FB page, and if you like the photos, grab your bud and head on over. Order in "twos", share everything. You won't be disappointed.

Chez Nous is one of my favorite restaurants in Charleston, which says a lot as there are so many fantastic restaurants here! The ambiance is beautiful and interesting and the staff is even more fabulous. The menu changes daily but I have never had a dish disappoint. Definitely a great spot for a romantic date or a splurge dinner. So wonderful!

Chez Nous IS Charleston's best restaurant. It is romantic, unpretentious, elegant, small, completely French and sublime. We went and got an AMAZING bottle of wine and after looking at the hand written menu ordered every single item. The salads were PERFECTLY dressed, full of nuanced flavor and you sincerely could taste the love. For entrees we got the Rabbit and Seafood Rice, both were so delectable, layered in flavor and clearly made by someone with talent. The final course of dessert, we got each on the menu were both light, complex and just perfect executed. The menu changes daily, they do not take reservations and have a charming but not obtuse staff. There are some meals you have and leave and think, that was one of the best meals of my life...Chez Nous...you are SPOT ON. Don't change anything. Ever. Please.

Chez Nous, which opened on 3/18/14, brings a unique European restaurant concept to Charleston, from the Panellas (the couple who owns local-favorite wine bar, Bin 152 @ yelp.com/biz/bin-152-cha… ), and their chefs (Jill Mathias, Executive Chef and Juan Cassalett, Sous Chef). (Full disclosure, my wife and I have been huge fans of Bin 152 since we moved in down the street a few years ago.) Accepting no reservations, Chez Nous offers a different menu each day for lunch and dinner (yes, the menu changes daily, how ambitious is that?) with two appetizers, two main courses, and two desserts, along with a diverse wine list. It's a cozy and romantic two-story place: lots of dark wood, candlelight, and French music. My wife and I were lucky enough to get the chance to try Chez Nous on one of their "soft opening" nights, which ran smoothly--to my surprise given how many moving parts go into opening a restaurant. The appetizers were octopus or pork belly; the main courses were house-made chicken/veal sausage or Catalan fish stew; and the desserts were fig pudding or an orange tart. All creative, well-executed and delicious. Friendly and efficient service rounded out the experience. Personally, I thought somebody would have to be a little nuts to open a new restaurant with the white-hot Charleston fine-dining scene competition, but it seems the owners and chefs have successfully carved out a delicious niche for themselves! Can't wait to go back.

You'd never know this place existed unless someone told you! It is teeny and hidden down a little road in downtown charleston. My husbands parents had been raving about it so I went with them to check it out. The menu is handwritten daily with a new menu (thats awesome). The wine selection was lovely, and we had a delish cheese plate before the meal which was to die for - I can't remember the kind it was but I had never heard of it. I had a grouper dish that was absolutely delicious, and they both had the veal, but did not feel it was up to par with what they had experienced in the past. I did not try it because I don't eat veal, but I think it was disappointing. The service was friendly and prompt, and the place is cute. I wouldn't die to go there again, but I would happily eat there again.

I heard about Chez Nous from the proud owners. This French couple is legit. They own Bin 152 on King Street, which is a wine bar that serves light fare. The couple have been working on opening up for quite some time and finally all of their efforts have paid off and we now get to enjoy all of their hard work! Chez Nous is definitely not a tourist place. It is off the beaten path in downtown. Parking is scarce and you may have a hard time finding the place as it sits off of the main road. Located inside of an old house, featuring outdoor seating and close quarter interior seating both upstairs and downstairs. If you sit upstairs, be ready to get to know your neighbor. Very, very close seating arrangements. This atmosphere leans towards the romantic with dim candlelight lighting and soft French music in the background. On the evening I dined upstairs, it got very loud, due to the close seating, but I enjoyed it. I like a lively atmosphere. The handwritten menu changes daily. Very, very limited options on the menu . Specifically, there were two appetizers (one which was a salad), two entrees and one dessert choice. But let me assure you, they know what they are doing in the kitchen here. Whatever you select will be amazing. We started with clams as an appetizer. They were tossed in a orange colored sauce. I honestly am not a clam fan but these converted me. They were awesome (I've included a picture). For my entrée, I selected the grouper. It was awesome (included a picture). We also tried their dessert, which was a simple gelato. It was a nice light close to the dinner. The wine was fantastic. The service very good. I highly recommend this place and I will be back soon:) Bon Appétit

Yeah I'm gonna be basic and just say that this place was nothing short of amazing. The food was spot on, but more than anything, Rebecca behind the bar was knowledgeable, witty, and just a pure delight. I would like to time travel with her.

The Hubs and I ate at Chez Nous lastnight and it was fantastic. We were quickly greeted at the door and welcomed into the restaurant. We chose to sit at the bar where we had great, friendly service by Katie. She walked us through the wine list and menu and then offered suggestions. After a hot second we just decided to go with a bottle of wine and work through the entire menu! From the apps to desserts, everything was super fresh, seasoned perfectly, creative and worth every penny. We can't wait for another Date Night or Brunch to visit again.

Was excited to eat there as I love the space. Unfortunately the food was mediocre. I live downtown and their are far to many good restaurants to dine in. I'd avoid this except for the sweet bar to have a drink.

We made the long trek out to visit this restaurant based on reviews, but were sorely let down by the price tag, quality of food, and snooty service. We paid $27 for a fish entree and felt robbed. The fish seemed fresh, but was so desperately over-salted I could barely get it down. I might have brought this up to the waitress, but she served up little more than attitude before disappearing for good. The green beans were so overcooked they were mush, and the mushrooms didn't have much flavor. If you're only going to serve two entrees per night, they should be excellent, not over-cooked and caked with so much salt you can't taste anything. Maybe you have to be buddies with the owners (or the waitress) to have a good experience... Clearly, though we were dressed well, we were not up to par in their eyes!

Amazing restaurant in a quaint little house a few blocks off king st. They are featured on Southern Livings' "100 best restaurants of the south." There is no regular menu, rather follow them on Instagram to find out the food on the menu that day. The food was incredible; the service was wonderful. The space is very small so it's a little awkward at first, but I certainly wouldn't let that deter you. There is so much good food to be had in Charleston and Chez Nous should be at the top of the list.

Very quaint, like a cozy French home. We had dinner elsewhere & on hearing the dessert for the evening was Panna Cotta, we landed up here for dessert. Being picky about Panna Cotta, the taste & texture was lovely, what a sweet way to end the day! Service was great, the owners, chefs & servers are very nice & charming. Love the handwritten menu. Seating is tight (even for Philly & NYC standards) & the parking is tricky but overall cant wait to come back for a complete dinner next time.

This is one of my first ever posts on Yelp but as a long time fan and having recently returned from a four day trip to the great foodie destination of Charleston, I wanted to provide a quick update. My wife and I hit six of the more written about restaurants and three of the more acclaimed cocktail spots during our stay: FOOD FIG Husk Two Boroughs Larder Chez Nous Butcher and Bee Charleston Grill COCKTAILS McCrady's The Gin Joint Edmund's Oast We were blown away by Charleston and by much of what we drank and ate. But since it is new and has not gotten perhaps the same level of ink as some of the others, I wanted to give special attention to Chez Nous. In our opinion, it might have been the very best meal we had and I just hope it gets the acclaim and respect it deserves as a very special spot in a special city. Charleston, thank you. You are doing something very right.

We've eaten at Chez Nous many times and still my husband says when we go, "Why don't we come here more?" The reason is the food. The service and the ambiance are both the icing on an incredible cake -- and who doesn't like two layers of icing?! OK, let me back up. Why do we like the food? Fresh, prepared with skill, and reminds you of Southern France, Northern Spain and Northern Italy. First, fresh: With two apps, two entrees and two desserts prepared each day, fresh is your only choice. It is like when you live in Europe with a small frig and have to shop each day. So you can look at that as limiting, or you can look at it and realize you will open yourself up to something new or something comforting -- whichever happens to you on that night. Next skill: Chefs Jill and Juan, along with owners Fanny and Patrick, know what great food tastes like. All are industry veterans. This isn't a hobby. This is their life. They've lived and studied all over, and now have taken their craft to the highest level in their own venture. The care and passion shows. And finally the type of food... really, the food triggers memories of trips in those regions in France, Spain and Italy, every time. They nailed it! Now, I love me some cake, but let's talk about that icing I promised... the service and the ambiance. Everyone at Chez Nous is gracious and helpful. You don't get hovering and you don't get ignored. The place is small, so if your server is out of sight for a few mins, they will be back in sight in another minute. You won't have to wait long for anything you need. Also the management and owners are always checking things out and I regularly see them filling glasses and cleaning tables. Speaking of tables... this place is cozy, warm, and beautifully decorated. You feel at home... like you've just stepped into a friend's house, who just happens to live in Southern France. Love it! Love it! Love it! P.S. The place is tucked away, so you might think you are heading in the wrong direction going down the "alley". You aren't. Also no parking right next to the restaurant (welcome to downtown Charleston). Street parking is easy on the main streets surrounding the place. Or bike, like we do! :-)

Great place! We went here for valentines dinner and really enjoyed it. We sat upstairs and ordered everything off the menu. The restaurant is in a old house and small, so it feels romantic. The food was great, the wine selection was fantastic and we love the idea of a menu changing daily. If I could afford to go here everyday I would. We'll definitely be back!

Our meal was not a 4 or 5 star experience. The staff was arrogant, wine prices were exorbitant and the food was mixed at best: a simple grilled fish was good but should have been deboned by the server, the Basque chicken was over cooked and lacking in flavor, both of our desserts were unsatisfactory. This was the Emperor's New Clothes with attitude. Oh, the portions were on the small side: we all had three courses and were still a bit hungry.

Chez Nous is an awesome french gem tucked away near Spring and Coming Streets. The decor is paired down and the space retains the charm of Charleston's past. You'll find 6 options, 2 appetizers, 2 mains, and 2 desserts for lunch and dinner. Its pricier, but cheaper than a flight and meal in paris. Wines were perfectly suggested and has superb coffee and dessert to finish our meal. highly recommend it.

Absolutely great new restaurant in Charleston. Two starters and two entrees and two desserts each evening sounds limiting but when each are perfect it is an extensive menu that is just perfect for a couple to share. Everything we had was absolutely wonderful and I would go back for those or anything else they plan to cook. The wines are also very good selections to complement the fine cooking. We will be going back and back.

Curious after reading Hanna Raskin's slam which my friends refuted madly, I ventured off to Chez Nous. Hard to find? ..a bit....but anyone with a map app can figure it out. Parking? On the street, but plentiful. Now for the important things. The night we were there the owner and staff were warm and welcoming, but not intrusive. We sat on a leafy, lovely patio, but the house looks lovely and extremely well done. Ah, the food.......simply fabulous! We had an amazing soup of artichoke and hazelnut, superb braised chicken, and wonderful zabiglione. I like discerning restaurant critics but don't understand the negative critique. Our friends were right. We cannot wait too back!

Such a nuisance. Two dishes. We had 4 glasses of a wine which they did not offer for pre-tasting, they would not switch it to the bottle price, consequently at 25% up charge on wine all told. The place was dead, being reasonable might help survival.

  • Katie H.

Unbelievable! We were there opening week and everything was perfect. I love the small menu which allowed us to try and share everything. The wine list is beyond curated and the service was perfect. As soon as this place hits the food blogs it will be impossible to get a reservation so, I hope I can make it back to Charleston before that happens!

Absolutely loved this hidden gem. It was as tucked back and as quaint as it gets. Food was delicious. Wine list is extensive. Cant go wrong with their selection of daily cheese. Extremely European feel, you will forget you are between Spring and Cannon. If they have the crispy eggplant, you will not be let down.
