I am a fan of this place for several reasons. First off, I live off of Hwy 61 where 3 Mats is located and am glad to see this tequileria classin' up the joint. Hwy 61 leaves a lot to be desired and it's nice to have a local hangout spot that doesn't come across as trashy or that I may get shot/mugged at. The atmosphere is laid back, the decor nicely done, the vibe chill. Good service. There is indoor seating, a bar area (the only area I've dined at) & a patio. Live music on the weekends where a large, garage-like door can be upped to connect the patio to the bar area. The food, for the most part is good. Great complimentary chips & salsa. They currently have nice a lunch special I've partaken in before. They have a variety of mexican themed foods but their big thing is tacos. I really like trying the different varieties: fish, shrimp, steak, etc. My only quip about this place is their lack of consistency, which may stem from simply being a new restaurant and working the kinks out. The first two times I had a cucumber margarita here, it was amazing....now I won't even get one because I never know if it's going to be amazing or terrible. Also, you may order a taco that is amazing and the next time you order it, it's missing something, or just doesn't seem as awesome as the one before....My boyfriend and I have had this experience several times. Still, I will continue to patronize this spot and support the local restaurant that is bringing positive change to Hwy. 61!

Really wanted to like this place since I love Mexican food and it's near my house. Server was nice but seemed very rushed, although it really wasn't busy. Maybe they got a pop after the Glow Run, not sure, but it was not what you would call "busy." Plus there was plenty of waitstaff. Atmosphere is interesting. Bar area seemed chill, but the rest of the place felt like someone's house. Ceiling fans, lighting anything but ambient, strange room in the back with blue carpet and leather couches? Chips were greasy. Salsa fresh tasting, but bland. Cucumber margarita too sweet, barely tasted cucumber. Guacamole had NO flavor!! Very limey, but otherwise bland. Had to add salt. Me and another friend ordered our dinners, but our 3rd friend wasn't ready so we apologized and asked the server to come back for her order. She disappeared and apparently had put our two orders in anyway. Our food came out before our other friend even ordered! We had to track down our server to get her order in. Just unprofessional. The Fitness Burrito Bowl was bland bland bland, besides the blackened mahi which was good. Asked for guac and mango salsa on it and only got guac, had to remind server of mango salsa. Mango salsa was yummy! Friends burrito bowl was bland, overloaded with shredded iceberg lettuce, not much to it. Barely any rice. For $8-$10 the burrito bowls should have been MUCH more flavorful and loaded. I literally could have made them at home with whatever is in my fridge/cabinets. Black beans BLAND! Other friends tacos were "okay" she said. Overall food is bland, service could be better, and if I'm paying $8 for a margarita, put it in a larger glass with some extra tequila thrown in! Tasted mostly of mix. I hate to give a bad review but if you're looking for flavor or bang for your buck, keep driving. Even Mex 1 is better than this and I didn't like Mex 1. If you're starving after not eating since noon, this will fill your belly. That's all there is to it.

Something different than the normal fast Mexican dinner. Got the chorizo bowl and it was delish! Boyfriend got 2 tacos a Mahi and a pork, and was stuffed. Only negative for me was the spice level. Some things that weren't marked "spicy" seemed really spicy to me. We will definitely be back to try more!

Very fresh and very free nacho chips and fresh salsa before the meal! The nachos and tacos I ate were both pretty standard but good. I'd say the coolest part about this place is their atmosphere. A multiverse of TV's on the wall to tune into whatever you wish and seating inside and on the deck. There's enough elbow room between the tables to feel comfortable moving around the place!

This place has some amazing, creative, and fresh food. I usually get a couple tacos and everything I have had has not disappointed. My favorite taco would be the buffalo blue taco. The chips and salsa they give you (yes, its free) is much better than your typical Mexican joint. I usually get the queso which has some very good flavor. The atmosphere is great, and the bar area is lively with lots of new TV's to watch football or whatever is on. The only reason I didn't give the place 5 stars is because of the service. The last couple of times I have been there I have had great service, but in the past I had been disappointed. I will say that it seems like the place has improved quite a bit since first opening.

I lived in Charleston, SC for two years and loved this place! Their tacos are absolutely delicious!! Buffalo Shimp taco was my fav! The portions are good, two tacos was enough to leave me full but not hating myself. They have lots of tacos to choose from as well as your other standard mexican dishes including salads. Staff was always nice and personable and the joint was always clean! I definitely miss this place! Mmmm Buffalo Shrimp Taco.......

Hands down this is the best mexican food I have tasted in charleston. They have a small menu and my group tried most of the different kinds of tacos and all were delicious. I also recommend the fried jalapeños. The batter is light and slightly sweet and not very hot. I will continue making the long drive to west Ashley for the food.

Not horrible but the best part of the meal was the chips. Seems like a dude who owns a bunch of restaurants opened a "Mexican" restaurant, not very authentic food but the bar looks good. Chipotle has better Mexican food.

Third time here. It's been over a year since I was here last. It's gone downhill, BIG TIME! Queso tasted like cheese out of a can. My son ordered the enchiladas with just cheese and was told that the enchiladas are premade with only ground beef or chicken.I ordered a burrito with pineapple rice. The waitress came out and said that they were out of pineapple rice and only had white. Took forever for our food to come out. A gentleman that came in after us got his food and was finished eating before ours even came out. Our waitress was non-existent for 20 minutes. Finally when we saw her I asked her where our fod was. She went into the kitchen for another 5 minutes and brought our food out. She copped an attitude with us the rest of the time we were there by slamming our drinks down on the table and etc...My son's enchiladas were hot on the outside and cold on the inside. She disappeared once again after dropping our food off and waited another 15 minutes for our bill. Will NEVER EVER come here again!

Food is OK at this place, but that is when they get your order right. I have been there several times and every time they have gotten much of the order wrong. Most of the time the food is not hot, and warm at best. Once they get your food to you as what you ordered it is fresh, but usually not hot by that time. The service is usually really bad here, the wait staff rarely comes by and they never check to see if your order is correct. Lots of pretty girls working here, but they don't seem to be "with it". The owners of this place also own Southside 17 grill, and Creekside Pizza, and those places are much better. I guess the owners don't have much time for this one. For much better Mexican, take the time to go over to Zia on Maybank Hwy on James Island.

Went with friends to have some margaritas and try the food. First problem was the tiny margaritas. I didn't want a jumbo 64oz monster like you find at the chain restaurants, but something bigger than an old fashioned glass might be nice. When I asked about ordering two and putting it into a pint glass our server looked at me like I had two heads. The service was off - more than once the waitress tried to walk off without getting all of our orders. My menu had dried food stains covering most of the second page. The menu itself isn't that large and varied - nothing in there that stood out as a reason to come back. The bartender brought over tea and coke a few times when the waitress could not be found. The food was OK, nothing special. Having almost everything served in pie pans kinda felt like being served food in a dog bowl. It was very hot and uncomfortable in the bar. There are limited seats, which is to be expected in a place this size, but the couch type booths and high tables seemed like they were bought at a fire sale and thrown all together. No real theme or identity to the place, maybe they are still working on that. I have friends who love this place, I can't see it with so many other places in Charleston to get good authentic Mexican food, better choices in Tequila, and in a better environment.

I agree with most comments in which I feel like there is potential here. My wife, 2 young daughters and I ate here and we had to wait nearly 5 minutes for them to find 2 high chairs for our children to sit in, and they were disgustingly dirty at that. The tacos my wife ordered were delicious. I enjoy ordering nachos at every restaurant in Charleston. These nachos rate as one of the worst I have had. Something so simple was disgusting. The spicy fish bites were way over seasoned and we sent them back. I asked the waitress what she suggested for an alcoholic drink. She said she doesn't like Tequila, but suggested one of the drinks that was most commonly ordered. I did order it and it tasted fantastic. The main problem with this was that the cost of a tumbler tequila drink was nearly $10. Extremely way over priced for the size and for West Ashley in my opinion. True positive note is that we were able to meet an owner, he asked us for our feedback, we gave it to him and he was all ears. Because of this we will give them another shot within the next several months.

This place has a great opportunity to shine since there aren't many restaurants on that side of Ashley River Road. I have been here 3 times and was disappointed each time. The food is lackluster and just typical, cheap bar food....nothing special. The drinks...margaritas are served with cheap, corn syrup laden mix. A tequila bar should have fresh squeezed juices! The bar area and decor itself needs work also. The last time we were there with several friends for lunch and the tacos were terrible. I could tell they had been pre-made and left to sit under a heat lamp because the soft taco itself had become hard and so chewy they were barely palatable. The only reason we didn't send them back was because we had just spent 8 hours moving furniture and belongings and were literally starving. On a positive note, I will say this place has a good number of TVs for game day and the service has always been prompt.

Absolutely the Best Taco's I've had in Charleston Taco Boy eat your heart out !!! Lol ! Great portions, price & FLAVOR ! They also give you a choice between corn and flour tortillas. The service was great & the Sangarita was delicious too. Plenty of indoor/outdoor seating. Been there 2 times now & will go back :) Needs more ambiance tho (a little drab- not very Tex-Mexi).

The food is okay not worth the price. Wooden booths hurts my toosh. Was there last week. Took 30 minutes to get a refill on salsa. Im hearing some dirty business practice going on there. Like avoiding import taxes (tequilaree liquors). Serving minors... Charleston doesnt need a bad rap in the food n bev district. Ugh. Shape up will ya?

My friends and I love 3 Matadors! It has become a regular hang out for us. It has a great, fun atmosphere. We really enjoy the deck on a nice day, and they often have live music. Thy wait staff is very friendly. Their tacos are great, personal favorite is the mango shrimp, and every loves the matador. and they have some great drinks too. I love their Sangaritas. Yum! The chips and salsa are good. We are all real excited to have a good restaurant on this side of West Ashley.

I went on the night that 3 Matadors opened, and there were some problems, but also plenty of potential. I'll go back soon to try the food and give them a second chance, and I'll update this review. First of all, I couldn't be more pleased to have another bar/eatery within walking distance of my house. This place seems like it will be more my vibe than the other nearby bars, and nothing is better than not having to worry about driving. I'm glad they opened on this stretch of Ashley River Road. Kudos for that. The place has a big bar, an area with some couches to sit on, and a small-looking regular dining area. There are several booths in the bar, and there's also a large and nice-looking deck attached to the bar. The parking lot looks tight, but I'm on foot, so I don't care. Everything about opening night wasn't so great though. There was no food available. Bar service wasn't so good. The inside didn't seem to be finished - there were large empty walls. But the biggest problem, by far, was the tequila. So they have 60 tequilas available. Great. Here's the fatal flaw though: the shelves where they have the tequila have lights underneath them, creating a neat effect. However it also warms the tequila up. I got two shots of warm tequila. Unacceptable! They didn't have bar mats down. The guy in the kitchen slipped on the wet floor and busted his ass. Come on guys -- if you aren't ready to open, don't open. I think it has potential though. Some of the tacos sounded very good. I appreciate having this bar and food option on an otherwise fairly barren stretch of Ashley River Road. I hope they iron the kinks out so I can make this my regular place. And for the love of god, do something about the warm tequila.

Hasn't been busy any of the times I've been in there but the service is still subpar. Decent selection of tacos, but nothing to write home about. Nachos are good and stacked high, but end up with soggy chips shortly into the meal. Has a dirty feeling to the place and tends to have flies lingering near the kitchen.

Went here for lunch this past Saturday. Walked in and was asked to find our own table, had to go to three tables before we found a clean one. Sat down, ordered drinks and got the menu that had dried food all over it, salt shaker and pepper were dirty as well, with greasy fingerprints all over them. Ordered, got two tacos and some rice and it was $15! Overpriced, and the food was only mediocre. Honestly, I've had better at taco bell. On the upside the waiter was attentive and friendly. Too bad the rest wasn't better.

I mean great name right?? I love this West Ashley gem. The proximity to my couch is also a plus, especially because their take out service is very fast and delish. They often have live music on the deck (which has both shade and sun) as well as a garage door that opens to the main bar area. The waitresses are nice but sometimes can be inattentive, to the deck area for drink refills especially. I think they forget there is an outside sometimes, however, its really my only qualm with the place. My husband always gets the Fitness Burrito Bowl which is basically just an undressed burrito with healthy goo holding it together. He loves it! I usually get the tacos which are almost as good as Taco Boy (what?! I can't believe I said it!). I will also have to say that they have fun events almost every major holiday. They go all out for Cinco De Mayo and have beer tents and cornhole tournaments in the parking lot. I only wished this year they had better drink specials on the stolen Mexican holiday, at least on Corona :) Maybe next year...

I thought I reviewed this place like when it first opened but I'll review it again since I must not have saved my 1st review. I really like this place for 2 reasons. It's Frozen Screwdriver and Margarita on the rocks. I've had several samples of different food items. I've had better food in other Mexican restaurants. That being said. I'm not saying the food is bad. I do think it's generic. Now lately I'm guessing with a new cook I've been tempted to eat more items on the menu. I got to taste the guacamole dip which was pretty good. The atmosphere is very relaxed. I do like the open airy atmosphere when the big garage-like doors are opened. The staff here is decent. They definitely have their regulars who will be served quicker than others which I'm find with as long as it doesn't take too long.

The Matador and El Capitan are my two favorite tacos by far. Sounds like a meeting of the minds, doesn't it? El Capitan is a taco with tempura fried shrimp and a spicy slaw. The spicy slaw is the perfect accompaniment to the crispy fried shrimp. The Matador is just some kind of meaty awesomness. Carne asada and chorizo topped with melty queso. Different texture than el capitan, but that's what makes these two a match made in heaven. Chips and salsa are brought to the table immediately. I will say that the salsa could use a little spice. It lacks a good salsa flavor to me, but I assume this makes it safe for everyone. I have yet to try a salad, but can't wait. They come in a huge taco shell...the best part of a taco salad. The staff is always very friendly. Visit Emily behind the bar for some delcious cocktails. Sit outside on the deck and enjoy some live music.

Probably the dirtiest place I've ever eaten at. I should have just walked back outside when I walked in. Outrageously priced food that wasn't even that good. Our table got the Charleston bowl, and two individual tacos with rice. The "burrito bowl" was wimpy. It was on a bed a iceburg lettuce. It should have been called a salad. It was 80% salad and the rest the fillings promised on the menu. It didn't even taste good. The tacos were flavorful though small for nearly $5 apiece. I am never returning.

I'm glad I didn't listen to the Yelp reviews on this place. I first want to start off by saying this by far is one of my favorite Mexican places in Charleston. I have been here different times and days and I am never disappointed. The Monday Bingo games are so much fun and the happy hour is cheap. The queso is delicious and the tacos are amazing!!! I always try to get a new drink every time I go. The margaritas are delicious and the amount of tequila they have is phenomenal!!! The atmosphere is amazing and I love when the weather is nice and you can sit on the patio. The staff is super friendly and the bartenders are some of the nicest people I have met. Now I had a few issues with my food not being very good but I've always mentioned it to the server or bartender and they quickly correct the issue. Overall I definitely recommend this place!!!

Awesome place! Middle of the summer we moved to West Ashley from Columbia, about 3 minutes from 3 Matadors. We've either eaten there, hung out at the bar, or gotten take-out at least a dozen or more times. Their Sweet-and-Spicy Pork taco and The Matador taco are definitely my favorites. My wife did love their Queso Blanco dip until they just got a new chef. The queso definitely seems different. Still 'good' but just not 'as good'; I like it but I'm not as big a queso person as her. Would give 5 stars if the owner was a South Carolina Gamecocks fan! Unfortunately since he's a Clemson fan so I can't use 3 Matadors as my football-watching bar.

I came here for my birthday and I had a pleasant experience. They offer a decent selection of wines and I ordered a pinot noir. They brought me a huge glass. We ordered the chicken tortilla soup and the fried stuffed poblano for appetizers. The soup was decent and had lots of peppers and meat in it. That poblano was delicious though! It was stuffed with tons of cheese and they had a great sauce to dip it in. We each ordered two tacos and they were a good size. I tried a little bit of each taco. The fish taco with the yellow tail was awesome! The steak and blue cheese taco tasted great but the meat was a little on the rare side and very chewy. The ambiance and decor are very vibrant and comfortable. I really liked the hard wood tables. Our waitress was very prompt and super friendly. She didn't miss a beat. Overall, I was very happy with this restaurant and recommend it. I'll definitely be returning in the near future.

Ugh, seriously? The worst today. The server had no idea about anything. No idea about the draft beer, no idea what is supposed to be on a salad or a burger, and clearly no idea how to fix problems as they arise. I am a high maintenance person right now (Whole 30/strict paleo) so I had a lot of deletion requests (no bun, no cheese on anything, veggie instead of fries) and my other ordered the chorizo burger. Mine came out first, and the side salad with cheese (I said no cheese). 5 minutes later his came out with some kind of shredded cheddar ONLY.. It was supposed to have pico and pepper jack. When he said this, she didn't have any idea what was supposed to be on it, supposedly went to check, and someone else came out with a little side of pico. That is not fixing it. Ive never been a huge fan of the food or ambiance here but my other loved it until now... I'm over it at this point. This may seem harsh but I've been here a few times since my last review and never really have a great food experience, there is almost always something missing or wrong with it and it's hard to get a solution. I think I've read that in other reviews for this place.

This is a local's place. If you're expecting the touristy type of "tour" to the menu, area, and are picky about your food, you might want to pass. Seafood taco's aren't the best here but the pork and beef taco's are great! Favorite: The Matador taco (chorizo, carne asada, pork, queso and pico de gallo) I could eat 3 of these! Chips and salsa were good too.

I have been to 3 Matadors several times and I love it! I have tried most of the tacos and my favorites are the Lemon Pepper Mahi-Mahi and Buffalo Shrimp. The 'Fitness' Burrito and the Fajito Taco Salad are also great. They have refreshing margaritas, including cucumber and pineapple jalapeno. The sangarita is a mix of frozen margarita and Sangria and it is the BEST. I will definitely be ordering it a lot this Summer.

My friend and I went for a so needed margarita yesterday after the start of a new working position. The experience was hardly the relaxing one I wanted. I ordered a veggie bowl which was listed below a description described burrito bowls as basically nachos in a rice bowl!! Cheese, pineapple rice, sour cream, guac... I thought this was going to be the base for the veggie bowl which had grilled veggies - yum, awesome sauce. I couldn't resist ordering that even though I was initially just there to drink (I cursed myself!!!) When the veggie bowl came out, it was just grilled veggies & beans on iceberg lettuce!! Okay, I figured they were having an off night - the hostess and the cook were doubling up as waiters and I had to wait 10 minutes after getting my "burrito bowl" for a fork fresh out of the dishwasher (and I though even the bowls as plates must be backed up bc the tin pan all of our food was served in looks like a cooking tool, till I saw all the help pictures and this is actually what they serve food in sooo okay...) then the depressing realization, 10 minutes later, that my bowl was beans and veggies on SHREDDED ICEBERG LETTUCE. I brought this up to the cook, that I think my bowl is missing the rice and cheese, he goes to check and comes back and tells me "we don't put rice in the veggie bowl, rice is a starch and that's our health conscience bowl. It's for people who want to avoid starches" This made me laugh so stupidly, and also feel partly offended (avoid starches?! It wasn't on a gluten free menu...) I'm like okay anyone who is seriously this health conscience is a) going to stay home. B) not going for Mexican or margaritas and C) not going to eat iceberg lettuce because ICEBERG IS NOT HEALTH CONSCIENCE it's crap crap only guinea pigs eat and crappy cheap places serve. I told him I was really misled, I would not have ordered if I knew it was not going to come with rice and be anything more than a grilled salad. And his response was "have I tried our pineapple rice? It's really good!" I feel like I should be more adamant about returning dishes I don't like back, rather than saying "yeah well I was hoping I was going to have the pineapple rice with this!!" So I didn't eat the food at all and I paid 8.50 for it- for that price I would expect at least some dang romaine!! I had a look at the menu again bc, I don't know, maybe I was reading with hunger goggles and missed a lot of stuff. My friend verified that the veggie bowl option is misleading and she understands how I expected rice and cheese and all. I meant to take a picture for yelp, but my phone died right before!!! While maybe my careless menu mistake resulted in something way less than what I wanted, I was offered no options when I expressed my dissatisfaction and as a vegetarian it's really disappointing and insulting when I go somewhere and end up with a premium costing bland meal and sub par vegetable options (like iceberg lettuce). Only my guinea pig would have enjoyed this...

2 visits here so far, and I plan to be back. I intended to get the same taco as last time but tried another yummy one. Love the bottomless tortillas and salsa. Live music sometimes. Inside and outside seating. I highly recommend the sangrita; sangria over frozen margarita makes for a yummy adult slushy.

3 Matadors definitely has potential once they get the kinks worked out. We both really liked our tacos- my husband had the traditional and the matador, and I had the veggie taco. He said The Matador was better and that the chorizo in the taco was some of the best he's had. There's a lot of meat in the taco, too. My veggie taco was good, it had a tasty sauce on it but almost too much sauce, as it was a bit spicy. We also ordered sides of rice- the black beans and rice and the pineapple rice, but neither dish had any taste at all. We were both disappointed in them, and the portions were super small and we sent them both back. Since I'd only had one taco, I got the El Capatan shrimp one after sending my rice back. This was an excellent taco! It had a delicious sauce, kind of like the shrimp sauce at Asian restaurants. It also had 6 very large shrimp in the taco- the most shrimp I've seen in one, and my husband liked it (I let him have a shrimp, hehe). Neither of us had tequila or any alcoholic beverage, so I can't comment on that. It's definitely more of a bar atmosphere, with comfy chairs to sit in but it has an outdoor area and a very small regular dining area. I think there's more seating in the back too? Maybe a private room, or either that area will be used for more seating space.

The food is subpar at best. Margaritas are ok, I've had better. The atmosphere is fun at times but mostly trashy. The service may be the most pathetic. They have no control of their patio. I went in and put my name down to sit on the patio and said I have dog so I can't sit inside. I was literally the only name on the list so I stood right out front waiting to be called. Maybe 10 min went by and I went to check and they said "oh we called your name but no one answered" I simply replied well I've been right out front. They said next table outside. I then waiting 30 more minutes watching people come in and just sit down. One couple was told they couldn't sit there and another was just left. I went back to the hostess stand to tell them that people were just sitting where ever and she says "it's just as frustrating to us as it is you". What the heck? She was too scared to ask people to leave stating it wasn't her fault they sat down. I left. If you're going to hire scared high school kids to work in your restaurant, at least explain to them how their job works. There was a group of 5 and we just left. I put my name down but that didn't mean I was getting a table so I moved on with life. Been here multiple times, none of them contend me to want to come back.

Things didn't start off too well with this place.. I walked in at 11:45? We wanted to watch the rest of a basketball game and we were pretty much told we might should go some place else because they were about to close. The female bartender was pretty rude but, I decided to give them another chance and I'm really glad I did! Their signature taco pulled pork, not sure what it's called was so amazing my mouth is actually watering thinking about it. I love the patio outside and the music is also great. Needless to say, I think you should try this place!

I hate writing negative reviews but unfortunately, I can't let this one pass. I will say take this with a grain of salt because obviously other people really like this place. In fact, my friend whose birthday we went to celebrate picked the place herself because she's been there numerous times and loves it. But even she acknowledged that the experience couldn't have gotten much worse. So a group of us go there for a Day of the Dead party which should've really been called an Auburn football party because there was such a huge group of (really loud) Auburn fans there that day that the DoD party was completely overshadowed. I could wax poetic a really long sad play-by-play but let's just say that it was a bad experience from start to finish. Orders were messed up, food brought out cold, drinks forgotten, chips and salsa taken away before we were finished, were overcharged for our drinks, there were big chunks of time where our server disappeared, and because it was so loud we had a hard time hearing each other. Makes it kind of hard to celebrate our friend's birthday when we can barely carry on a conversation. I was happy that the manager apologized and gave us each coupons for two free tacos. Unfortunately, I won't be back not only because I don't find myself on that side of town very often but the side of grilled corn with chipotle honey I ordered (oh, it sounds so good, right?!) cannot be erased from my memory. No bueno. Not one person at our table would even take a second bite. 2 stars for the tasty sangraritas (sangria/margarita) and the fact that despite so much being wrong, there were some tacos that were enjoyed (the El Capitan & Matador got good reviews). Also, they were friendly and tried to make up for a really bad situation.

Needs to up their game. The pork taco was tasty but cmon- your grilled corn taste like fresh freezer water. And how is it you messed up the guac, some weird sour seasoning in there? It would be better w out. I'll be back for a margarita and a second chance. Hoping not to be disappointed.

We are locals and had wanted to try this place for a while. We went on a Friday night, 8:30p. The $10.50 enchiladas looked like two hair rollers covered in overcooked red sauce with a dollop of sour cream on top. Literally about 4 inches long each one (like my index finger). It was barely the substance of a $5 appetizer and still wouldn't have been worth it at that price. Wish I had taken a photo. It was almost comical how ridiculously small the portion was. My wife's "bowl" was bland and unappetizing as well. The quesadillas were good enough but overpriced, and the beef nachos were just ok. The servers were very attentive, but they're not responsible for the menu or the food prep. Unfortunate, but we won't be going back and can't recommend it to anyone. There are too many great places around for this one to survive.

We ate here last Sunday for the first time and we will come back. The food was better than Taco Boy and the drink selection was great too. Service a bit slow, and we had to help ourselves to things like napkins and drink menus. I found the chips very greasy but everything else we ordered came out great. I love that they feature local seafood, and there were several fish options. My favorite was the mango mahi tacos, served on a lightly toasted taco. Hard to beat the ambiance at the taco boys but this place wins on food and drinks!

I was craving a decent margarita after a week in Charleston. Taco Boy failed miserably and I was weary of another attempt before I headed back to my native Austin. But 3 Matadors was a pleasant surprise. I ordered a Herradura Silver margarita, on the rocks. There wasn't a trace of that nasty sweet and sour mix and it tasted very fresh-lime juice, tequila, and triple sec. My only complaint was there was too much ice. I did like that they use the Sonic-like ice. I'd never seen that before. We only had drinks and chips and queso. The queso blanco was decent, and tasted similar to what I can get at home. I was assured it was vegetarian, I just wish it was denoted on the menu. The salsa was great. Now, about the service. We got the aloof hipster bartender as our server. All the other ones seemed friendly, but he was a typical hipster and had the attitude to match. Could have been better. Maybe I should have told him I was from Austin, a hipster capital, to lighten him up. Oh well.

I took my family to 3 Matadors for dinner last night. The service was fantastic and the food was delicious. This isn't the typical Mexican restaurant where you order by number from seemingly countless options that all taste the same. The menu here is small and it seems that they focus on doing everything well rather than presenting their customers with a mountain of mediocre options. I had the lemon pepper Maui taco and the shrimp mango taco. Both were exceptional. Bottom line, if you want typical Mexican fare, look elsewhere, if you want great tacos prepared by people who care about their product, then go to 3 Matadors.

Well, it was a good idea, I guess. There was/is nothing really palatable restaurant-wise in the Pierpont area of West Ashley, Unfortunately, as you might guess from the star rating, this reality has not changed. Everything about this place screams rushed to open and maybe ran out of money - neither of which are bad things in and of themselves, but I came when they first opened around Cinco de mayo and once again a couple weeks ago. Same story. Fact is that this is a "tequilaria" that maybe should've just become a biker bar. Maybe it will in time, I dont know. But the decor of the place is a hodge podge - almost like they werent sure what they were going to open. Its everything but mexican, and so is the food. Bland, small portions, just blah. Staff is ok but several of the people working there look a little rough and tumble - the owner told me they were going for a taco boy feel with better than Zia food. I would say they missed the mark big time on both of those. Sorry guys. Hope you can turn it around. Pierpont definitely needs a decent spot to eat.

Some of the best tacos in town. Creative and very tasty. The chips are thin and light and the salsa is pretty good too. The service can sometimes be a bit slow, but we are usually there at off-peak hours and they can be a bit disorganized at these times.

5 star night! Jalapeño watermelon margarita was outstanding. Spicy with bits of watermelon. Great to sip. Had lemon pepper Mahi & mango shrimp tacos. Very good. Second time there..great both times.

My husband and I checked this place out due to a coworker's recommendation. We both love Mexican food, and I particularly love margaritas, so we were pretty easy to please! We both had the taco salad, which had ground beef, tomatoes, shredded lettuce, shredded cheese, and sour cream in a tortilla bowl. It was a large portion to me, but my husband was still hungry after he ate his. They also had some interesting margaritas on their drink menu, but I went with a house margarita which was $5 for a medium sized glass during happy hour. Overall, the atmosphere was good, it was a pretty fun biker-bar type atmosphere, but once it got busy around 6:30 the service got really slow. My husband waited almost half an hour for a drink re-fill. The food was really good, so we'll probably go back again soon!
