We arrived 30 minutes early for our reservation and were promptly seated at a table right next to the window. The waitstaff was very attentive on this busy Saturday night. We had a party of four and everybody was delighted (even though some of us are really picky - sorry honey but it is true).

Maybe the best meal ever! The beef tenderloin was to die for. The potato's were done perfectly as were the asparagus. The setting was charming. The service attentive and good. Would go back anytime I'm in the address. The town was charming as was the restaurant. With the drive from Hilton Head

I was surprised that this place had not received any reviews yet. We were a little skeptical for this reason but should not have been. We shared the clam chowder for an appetizer and it was the best clam chowder I've ever had. The clams were as fresh as you could get and the broth was very tasty. We wanted to lick the bowl! I was curious about the scallops and pulled pork so I had to get that. It was very good; the scallops were cooked perfectly and the pulled pork and sweet potato hash were outstanding. My husband got the shrimp and grits made with mascarpone cheese, outstanding! Our waitress was a little slow as we sat there for quite a while waiting for her to come take our order (several customers who came after us placed their orders and received food before we did) but she was pleasant enough. The prices were reasonable and the decor was very nice. They had a nice patio out back with a fire pit; if the weather had been a little warmer we would have loved to sit out back and watch the harbor. All in all, a good experience. We will be back next time we find ourselves in Beaufort!

Beautiful setting, space, ambiance. Service was very attentive. The French rose' by the glass was not in the wine list but available when asked for and excellent. A wedge salad was split for sharing without asking. I asked for the grilled salmon to be a bit rare and was cooked to perfection. An overall enjoyable experience, we'll definitely return.

Food is average, place was very noisy last night. The vegetables with one fish dish were over peppered (cayenne?) To the point of being inedible. When brought to the attention of the server we got a blank look and some drivel about how they are spicy. No comp for dessert, no offer to replace them. My gnocchi were soggy and mushy, my husband's tofu was almost raw with a small pile of vegetables and no rice or anything else. He put some soy sauce that was left on the table from the sushi on it for some flavor. That sushi was ok though and also on the small side, a little less than an inch across. The fish was good. The desserts were good. Overall the place is lively with a good crowd of young people in the bar but the food isn't great.

Saltus River Grill is my go-to place for fine fare in a classy setting. Located on Beaufort's beautiful waterfront, the restaurant emanates an elegant yet casual ambiance that is conducive to a romantic dinner or a night out on the town with friends. The martini menu is unique, and quite delicious, as well as the assortment of sushi options. A favorite entrée - believe it or not - is the Sea Island Shrimp and Creamy Stone Ground Grits (yep that's right, grits!). So get dressed up, share a wonderful evening with those you love, and enjoy the low country cuisine the Beaufortonian way!

This was our first time in Beaufort and we were very pleasantly surprised by Saltus River Grill. We enjoyed the outdoor patio with views of the marina, river and bridge to Port Royal. There was live music that was fit the mood atmosphere and crowd. It was entertaining but also not so loud as it was difficult to have a conversation. The food was excellent. The crab bisque is rich and satisfying. My wife had the shrimp and grits and loved every bit of it. It was so rich she couldn't finish it and took the rest with us. I enjoyed the caramelized sea scallops. They were perfectly prepared, fresh and flavorful. The wait staff was excellent. Attentive but unobtrusive. I would definitely recommend Saltus for anyone looking for a high quality dining experience in Beaufort.

You absolutely cannot beat the atmosphere of this restaurant. We had an excellent server and sat on the patio on a lovely night. The food was well prepared and beautifully presented. The gnocchi was amazing! Out fellow guests loved the crab soup. In a small town, touristy town, this gives off an upscale, modern atmosphere. A must visit if you are in Beaufort.

Great food with a very comfortable, relaxing atmosphere. We had the oysters as an appetizer.....outstanding. We had the salmon which was very good and the flounder average. Wait staff was attentive.

This place is by far the best food I've had in Beaufort (and the most expensive lol). It is quite pricey but I would say it's worth it for the quality of the dishes. The ambience is really nice on the patio right on the marina. Also the indoor dining area is modernly decorated and very beautiful. The service was excellent and we went on a busy night. It's a nice place to go to feel like you're pampering yourself once in awhile. Their sushi and seafood was yummy!

How can you fault a restaurant that has, raw oysters, crab bisque, steak tartar, quail, homemade pate', hand cut-homemade pomme frites, on their menu? Plus a variety of steaks, salmon, lobster made on a wood grill. On a stop in Beaufort we dined at Saltus,we were so pleased we went back the next evening. The service was very good, we sat at the bar both nights. The food was excellent. Ambiance is above average. A lot of locals dine here. In good weather you can eat outside overlooking the water. I would highly suggest Saltus if you're in the Beaufort area.

This restaurant seems to disappoint in some way every time I go. This time the only disappointments were food and service. First the service. Our waitress had zero knowledge of the drink menu or the bar. Zilch. Nada. To her credit she fessed up to this and offered to pass my question to the bartender. I had asked for their best rum drinks. The answer that came back was "rum and Coke" with an excuse that the bartender was busy and really I had not given enough information to elicit a suggestion. I ordered a beer. Apart from that the waitress was pretty good. Friendly and reasonably attentive (on a slow night). Got the orders right. But management had sent her out completely untrained about the bar, and without backup. Food: I ordered Crab Louis. When it came I wondered where the crab and the Louis were. A close inspection revealed four below average size morsels of crab sitting on top of the lettuce wedge. The Louis sauce was actually hidden under the lettuce, completely invisible. I had to lift and move the wedge to find it. There were two small wedges of hard boiled egg, two slices of tomato and a scattering of capers. The sauce was average at best. The lettuce was reasonably fresh. I did have raw oysters that were fresh and competently presented. I will not go in to detail about our other three diners. They all said their meals were ok but nothing special, though they experienced nothing as ludicrously deficient as I did. Saltus pretends to be the best bar in Beaufort and a first rate restaurant. Good bars train their servers. First rate restaurants do not skimp on quality and quantity. Double fail. My previous visit the main problem was very slow terribly inattentive service. Service was better this time, apart from the bar issue. Our orders came timely. (We had arrived at 6 PM because we had somewhere else to go and knew it could be slow, so there were only a few customers.) This place needs to clean up its act and be consistent. But I've been saying that about them for many years now.

One of the better restaurants in Beaufort. They have a good menu, classy decor and beautiful people as customers. Even though the place was not full, we had the impression of being rushed. Food arrived within minutes of ordering. If we hadn't ordered dessert, we might have been in and out in half an hour, which is just too fast when you're trying to have a nice evening out. One nice touch, however, is that they have a big crackling fire on the patio, so even though the meal seemed to be over too quickly, we enjoyed sitting out by the fire afterwards.

I really enjoyed eating here and would definitely come back if I am ever in Beaufort again. I had the shrimp and grits with bacon lardons and wilted kale. They weren't too heavy and the portion wasn't too big, but they were totally overshadowed by my dad's entree. He had a pulled pork shoulder with caramelized scallops over spicy boiled peanuts and a corn cake. That was definitely the best thing I have eaten on my vacation.

While I don't have much basis for comparison in the Beaufort area (my husband and I visited my in-laws in Bluffton), I was impressed with this establishment. We have been to several restaurants in touristy Hilton Head, none of which have yet to wow me (admittedly we have yet to venture to the much acclaimed Vine). We were pleasantly surprised by this restaurant both in terms of food and atmosphere. The fire pit outside was very inviting and we were aptly greeted by friendly hostesses when we walked in. The ambience is very nice, sophisticated but not snooty...comfortable but edgy. Service was a bit spotty (our waitress was super attentive though she was not so well versed on the specials that day etc). My vodka martini was perfectly executed (blue cheese olives a big thumbs up!) and they had several craft beers to offer, which made my husband and father in-law happy. I can speak only to my tuna (nicely grilled-rare on the inside as requested) over arugula and the perfectly caramelized side of napa cabbage. Not sweet, braised to perfection. As we were leaving, the place started to fill nicely, which is a sign of a good restaurant, particularly two days after Christmas when we are all filled to the gills and detoxing! Of course, I didn't witness much detoxing when I was on my visit but to each his or her own! This place deserves another half star but due to service I could not rate it a full 4 stars. Maybe next time round as we will definitely be back.

Food = 3 (okay... but, not up to the setting) Price = 3 Experience = 4 Service is relaxed. Bisque was small but nice (see photo). Priced fair.

Really, really good. From the initial entrance, to choosing to sit at the bar, (yes, there are hooks for purses), to interacting with the bartender and menu - this place is superb. We chose salads (1 arrugala, 1 Caesar, both way above standard). I had the steak tartar small plate - slightly over-peppery for my delicate palate but didn't leave speck behind. His shrimp and grits were great, and a perfect last taste for me after my spicy tartar. Fun, great food, classy setting, well trained and happy staff - there's everything here to like here.

Being a new Beaufortonian I have been to Saltus quite a few times. I really love that their menu is ever changing. I appreciate the use of local ingredients, especially from the Brant Family farm, as well as the fantastic local seafood. I have had shrimp all over the world and Beaufort has the best bar none! The view here is something to really take your time, relax and enjoy. Of course this is always helped with the inventive cocktails on the speciality menu or my friends favorite a bit of wine. Thank you again for another lovely experience!

My wife and I went her for her birthday and had a wonderful experience. We sat on the patio and enjoyed the ambiance. The wait staff was professional and provided timely service. The food was exceptional. The crab bisque may be the best you will find in the Low Country. I had the shrimp and grits, my wife had the fried green tomatoes. Would recommend both.

For some reason we did not expect to have such a great dining experience, but it was pretty great. Clams are fantastic!!!, the arugula salad tasted like it had been grown that week and picked that day. Souls vide sirloin was like butter. If I had to say anything constructive, It took about 5 minutes to get greeted The outside dining area needs some TLC (throw a couple of plants out there or something) Too many French fries on the steak, I would have preferred a local roasted potato The cream spinach was lacking, try a local spinach and just sauté it. Anyway it was a really good experience and I will dine there again. This place is worth a stop.

Simply a lovely place on the river ! I thought very good food...smaller portions which the hot chick that accompanied me and I prefer...excellent and friendly service without the fake BFF crap that seems to substitute for actual decent service in too many establishments. I appreciate the very nearly..if not entirely....use of local and regional ingredients. Wine selections were decent...although not inspired...but definitely appropriate for the area and clientele.

This is my favorite place to eat in Beaufort. I like to come early and sit outside for sushi and a Berry-D! They serve tofu and can have it prepared several different ways, just like the other proteins so this is absolutely a + for me. The inside atmosphere is really simple and calming. Great drinks and wine. Best sushi in town. I wouldn't bring kids here to eat, but i have sat outside and let them play in the park.

Really good. Only problem was the service. It was spotty - some misses that a high end restaurant shouldn't do. For instance raw oysters came and went, then the staff brought us oyster forks. Little things. Food was good. Menu was creative.

We were visiting Beaufort this week and returned to Saltus after enjoying a wonderful dinner there in October. We were so impressed with the creativity and ingenuity that went into the menu. We were back this past Friday for dinner. The hostess and wait staff were polite and friendly. The wine list was fine but not nearly as good as it was in the fall and they were out of a couple of wines. We ordered by the glass instead of a bottle. The menu was 1/2 of what it was and lacking in options for non-meat eaters. The scallop offering came with pork, many of the dishes seem to come with collard greens, some with boiled peanuts? Seriously? My husband ordered the crab bisque, it was really lacking, he didn't finish. I ordered the crab cake, it came drowning in a too-rich, heavy cream sauce with no real crab meat in it. It was a bowl of mush. I may have had two bites. Lastly, he decided to try the Cornmeal Crusted Tuna, he took one bite ... the tuna was old and not fresh. He left all but one bite on the plate. At this point, we promptly asked for our check so we could go find dinner elsewhere. I felt sure the waitress would ask if we didn't care for our food or if she could bring us something else. All of our plates were over 1/2 full. It seems part of her job to notice if a customer isn't eating the food she delivered. She brought us the check for over $50 and we moved on to another restaurant. Rest assured we will not ret

Absolutely outstanding! We were a party of six, every single person loved their meal!! Staff was most helpful as our group went from ten people to six and we changed rez time at least three times!! But, truly, food was really great! Great location, on waterfront. Must-do on next trip to beautiful Beaufort!!

Food is pretty ok. If they have what you want. atmosphere is fine if you aren't sat by old men talking about tittie bars, golf and women while trying to be on a date with your girl. service is pretty good if you don't mind ...you get the point.

We have a winter place near Beaufort and we eat here fairly often. If they are not busy the service is excellent so come early. They usually have excellent oysters from up North ...New Brunswick etc that are much better in my opinion than the local bunch oysters. My wife had Stone Crab Legs last time and she loved the way they were prepared and presented. I loved the oysters. The waiter was very knowledgeable and personable, but again we try to always go when they are not crowded with tourists.

To the dogs...or one, big hairy dog. While the atmosphere is inviting, the actual reason for being there - the food - is hit or miss...when they have it. They were out of a special and it took 25 minutes to get the fresh bread we were continually promised. The crab bisque sounds delicious, but do not order it. It arrived cold, lacking flavor and the consistency was that of a glass of milk rather than a thick, creamy bisque. Anyway there was about a thimble full of it served in a ridiculously shallow "bowl". We ordered an assortment of oysters only to find they had no saltine crackers. What?? My husband's steak was ok...nothing to write home about. The truffle fries served with them were very good. I almost forgot - the stone crabs we had at the bar were perfect and a great value. I should probably keep this to myself, but it's pretty hard to screw up stone crabs and they didn't so that's good. We then dined on the patio, which provided a great atmosphere on the water. I might have considered giving this place another shot and just ordered simple meals or the stone crabs UNTIL this BIG, golden retriever type dog just pranced up to our table and started sniffing/begging for scraps. Excuse me?? The dog had come with a man who was holding a leash that was not connected to the dog. The dog proceeded to go around to every table searching for food. WTH? The dog owner walked inside the restaurant and left the dog outside. The dog put two paws up on the glass front door and then sat to wait for it's owner. The owner came out with a cocktail in his hand, he sat down at a patio table and watched the dog roam around. The dog came to our table again and I shooshed him away. Again. WTH?? Not only was I annoyed, but my husband was completely annoyed. Since that rarely happens, I knew it wasn't just me. I complained to the server. The server, who was clearly new or nervous or just plain slow, blew off my comment. The owner of the dog was obviously "connected" to Saltus in some way. Employees called him by name. If he is the owner, shame on him! I wonder what the health department would say about a big, hairy dog sniffing around, eating off the floor and begging guests for food. By the way, I have a nearly 70lb dog who we've had since he was 5 weeks old. I love dogs.

I went to this restaurant twice while visiting Beaufort, because of the nice outdoor dining available & the good food. We ate outside, but the inside was beautifully modern but warm. Drinks: WEAK Appetizers: Crab cake - wonderful! No "cake" could be detected, just delicious crab! Pimento cheese biscuit - Skip it - Thought this would be a warm biscuit baked with pimento cheese in the batter - it was a cold biscuit with cold, tasteless pimento cheese. Entrees: Beef short rib on grits - Wonderful! Very tender. Grits were very creamy, almost like a mashed potato. Roasted veggies were OK, but I've definitely had better. Sirloin - Again, very tender. Creamed spinach was OK. Not too rich. Dessert - Lemon cake with sorbet. Just right. Nice & light end to the meal. Coffee was excellent. Only complaints: weak drinks & on the second night the server brought our check without asking if we wanted more coffee.

Great place to grab a late night dinner on a weekend night. We ate around 9 PM and had no problem getting right in, which was great since we were exhausted from a long round of golf in the brutal South Carolina heat. Enjoyed the sushi rolls there and a small portion of Fried shrimp. Prices were reasonable for sushi, and although the rolls were not of the traditional Japanese style, they were quite yummy. We appreciated the different types of soy sauces they offered as well (with wasabi, with orange, etc). Service was good. Our waitress was a bit TOO attentive, which isn't a bad thing considering the alternative. Great location too.

Always have friendly service and delicious food. Great location on the river with a big patio for outdoor eating. Wonderful specialty cocktails (the fire ice is a must try!). Fantastic fresh sushi, definitely one of the best places in Beaufort.

We found Saltus on Yelp while in Beauford and were pleased with this restaurant. They have a nice outside patio which overlooks a park and the water. The servers were friendly and the food was good. Inside the restaurant is really nice with a large bar and a lounge area. The wine by the glass list is fairly extensive and surprisingly they do not put beer on the menu, yet, have a strong selection. I was pleased with the double IPA that I ordered and the old vine zin that my wife drank. The food was very good with each selection being consistently good. The shrimp were yummy, calamari, dorado were all good. The mussels with pomme frites were good, yet the portion was small - makes sense because is small plate for about $7. Would definitely repeat.

We went with our teenage daughters who both got the tenderloin with parmesan fries, medium rate. I got the scallops with risotto, and my husband the sea bass, which was the daily special. All of our food was excellent, and the steaks were a perfect medium rare. I would definitely recommend if you're looking for a nice meal.

Food was excellent. Wine was excellent. Dessert was excellent. Service was excellent. One thing I would like mention though - the menu was not at all creative. Everything we ordered was well executed, but nothing pisses me off more than to go to a restaurant in the mood for a salad, to find out they use iceberg lettuce!?! Besides the lack of creativity on the menu, I would say that this was the best meal we had while visiting Beaufort.

Found this doing a Google maps search. It was amazing! The scallops were like butter, mojitos were perfect, not too sweet. Had a fried green tomato stack with fresh crab. I highly recommend!

My 3 night stay/eating adventure in Beaufort was rounded out nicely by a trip to Saltus. The menu was creative but not too complicated. I had a hard time deciding on steak, dorado, or pork belly. The pork belly won out. It was excellent. Look forward to coming back. Great wine selection. Very reasonable.

Wow! Service is great and food is remarkable. My wife and I plan on moving to Beaufort in the near future, and my only concern is ... With Saltus nearby ... Will we ever eat at home? If you're ever in Beaufort, please, drop by Saltus, if even for just a drink. You won't regret it. You might even move to Beaufort!

Went here for our anniversary a few years back and it was excellent. Haven't have a chance to go back, but hoping to get back next time I'm in Beaufort (my hometown). I had the shrimp and grits- creamy, cheesy grits with perfectly sauteed shrimp. From looking at the menu, it looks like they changed the shrimp and grits and I think I'd pass on the egg, but who knows? It could be good. I've never had it. For dessert, I had whipped cream, honey, and fresh berries. Simple and delish!

For Beaufort, this is as classy as it gets!! It's elegant and well decorated, it reminds me of restaurants back home in Seattle!! Not only is it aesthetically pleasing, the food was good too.. Their steamed shrimp are a fun and tasty appetizer, this you must get!! Another plus, they have a superb selection of wine. One of my favorite places in Beaufort, a great place for a romantic dinner!

Planning ahead for a nice meal following Family Day at Parris Island, we made reservations here based on other Yelp reviews. We were not disappointed. From start to finish, we were delighted with the ambiance, service, and most importantly, the food. The Shrimp and Grits was outstanding - the waitress shared the source for the grits (Adluh) and there is a pot simmering on my stove as I write. My wife had the Sheepshead fish which was delicious and cooked to perfection. Drinks were worthy, the desert to die for. A delightful view, comfortable seating, an outdoor fire-pit and a well appointed bar top off the list. Don't know when I'll ever be back in Beaufort, but if and when I am, I'll be eating here again.

I was really upset when Bateaux moved away from it's beautiful waterfront location. While we still visit them on a regular basis, but I'm happy that during their relocation we discovered Saltus downtown. Saltus is much more modern than anything else I've been to in Beaufort. It definitely has the vibe of a big city restaurant, and fortunately the food and service lives up to it. Seafood is obviously the way to go here, and I've never been disappointed with anything I've ordered. Be sure to check it out if you're looking for a nice dinner in Beaufort but would rather not blow it all out by going to the Beaufort Inn.

Dinner at Saltus last night with several of my friends and colleagues. It was amazing - the food was so delicious, beautifully presented and cooked to perfection. Chef Brian is very talented and has done really good things with the menu. Our group tasted almost the entire menu (we shared everything) and some of my favorites were the BBQ Glazed Salmon Belly - sweet, tender, and so well seasoned; the homemade pasta (which I understand Chef Chris makes in house and is some of the best pasta I have ever had) with the short ribs; the shrimp and grits with the farm fresh egg on top which really added to the richness of the dish; local clams in beer - really, really good and the broth underneath was rich, delicious and I only wish I had had the nerve to ask for more bread to finish it; the flash seared tuna had the perfect amount of sear, very fresh and sweet. The caramelized scallops and pulled pork with collard greens and cornmeal hoe cake were out of this world - a perfect southern dish with an unexpected sophistication. For dessert we had a few little bites. Pecan pie with candied ginger - a great addition to a southern classic; poached pear with a perfect caramel sauce - my favorite; chocolate and amaretto truffle - super dark, super rich and super delicious. It was the perfect ending to a perfect meal. The service was impeccable - our server was attentive and extremely knowledgeable - he was able to answer any question we asked (even explained the process of cooking the salmon belly which sounded pretty intense) with the ease of a well trained server. Saltus has been around for at least 10 years but they say current on food trends without being too trendy. I have eaten there probably 15 times and it will continue to be one of my favorite restaurants.

We dined on the patio at Saltus and had an amazing time. The view is amazing and the service was prompt and attentive. Server greeted us within 1 minute and brought out hot bread and olive oil. We did come early (6:00pm) so not sure how it is later in the evening. Tried a couple of the appetizers and were very impressed with the quality for the price. The entrees were moderately expensive and we did not have any of them, but if they taste as good as the apps, I would not be disappointed. The menu focus at Saltus is definitely seafood, much of it locally sourced. Mojito was great and the wine list was extensive and very fairly priced. This is probably tied for the best restaurant in Beaufort for a really nice meal, but it does win with the best view.

The food was very good, the setting was even better but the service was horrible. It took 2 hours to get our entrees. When we talked to the manager, she blamed the kitchen as if it was her problem. Will likely not return.

I would have given Saltus 2 stars for our dinner last night, but I have had some really nice meals there in the past. The food at our dinner was good, but it seemed like almost half the menu was unavailable (including any oysters). The service was friendly, but utterly incompetent. Our two servers didn't know what the other was doing. Orders were delivered sporadically and often incorrectly. We had to literally get up from our table to find one of our servers to order drinks. The restaurant manager either didn't sense that anything was amiss or was hiding from us because he was so embarrassed. Next time, we're going to Breakwaters.

Wow! My boyfriend and I took advantage of the three course fixed priced menu at Saltus and we were blown away by the amazing food. My first course was a very small but deeply rich cup of lobster bisque. His appetizer was a gooey mozzarella cheese dish with tomato, pesto, and balsamic dressing. YUM! I chose the island shrimp made with bacon, mushrooms, and grits. Delicious. He had the salmon with a colorful assortment of vegetables in a truffle broth. We completed our meal with a chocolate cream dessert. If we lived in Beaufort, this would be the restaurant we would dine in all the time. It was awesome and for the price it was a real steal! We paid just $6.50 per dish just for arriving to dinner early and we were able to also take advantage of the $5 wines that were very nice.

Very modern place for this town. Excellent service, great food. Had a really fun dinner with a large crew of New Yorkers... In general food in these parts is not fantastic so all is relative. We ate in several places and this was by far the best. But don't be afraid to check out Nippy's, next door to the Beaufort Inn a couple blocks away. Same chef/cook. At Nippy's you sit in the parking lot and eat off paper plates. It's a fun place to stay up late with a crew of people, smoke cigarettes and gaze at spanish moss under the glow of street lights.....

Birthday dinner for my mother. Wonderful meal. Market special with dessert. Service impeccable. We ate outside as it was much quieter. Water views perfect. Will definitely return! Deanna was our server.

It would get five stars however, there was no seating inside unless we had made a reservation and it was really hot outside even though it was past 7:30 pm. On to our wonderful dinner :) We ordered the shrimp sushi, mussels, fillet mignon with asparagus and pomme fritt (fancy for French fries) :) and everything was delish!!! Would highly recommend this place. Our waitress was wonderful and she was sweet to my 8 year old. I would come here with a bunch of my friends and the view is gorgeous. There is a little park close by and you can digest everything you ate. It is pretty pricey and a well dressed kind of restaurant. Sushi is fresh and wonderful. A great ending to our last night in St. Helena.

Another great restaurant in South Carolina. 4 of us ordered 2 pounds of shrimp for appetizer. Possibly the best I've ever had! Main course sea scallops were top notch. Recommend

Food was good but very disappointed in the service. Long wait for food...no real communication from waitress . In the managers defense he tried to make things right.... My elderly father left his phone at the restaurant and the manager Nicholas actually brought it personally to our hotel. Impressive.

Wonderful place! Very friendly and attentive service. Fantastic food! Was very surprised about the great quality of sushi in a place like Beaufort. Entree was amazing, too. Atmosphere is inviting and perfect for a date night. Would always go back!

If you want a nice evening with awesome food, this is the spot! The executive chef has an amazing menu that he keeps fresh and new, and the sushi chef is hands down the best and most innovative sushi chef in Beaufort! Ask about the watermelon roll, you won't be disappointed!

A simple evening on the veranda with an incredible view. A gentle breeze and the vibrant colors of sunset enhanced the presentation, the aroma and flavors of the wedge salad and blackened dorado fish. The server was attentive, informative and helped narrow choices to a delectable dinner. I look forward to the visit and memory to be made at Saltus!

Five stars, all the way! My wife and I were absolutely floored with our most recent visit to Saltus. We stop in every time we come to town, and last Friday was seriously impressive. We started with some raw oysters that were very clean and delicious. Moving forward, my first course was the Frisee salad. I can't get over how excited I am about this salad; one of the best dished I have had in a long time. Perfect balance between acid and salt, and fantastic contrasts in the texture. If you're lucky enough to find this on the menu, please do me a favor and order this to start. What a wonderful beginning to our meal. Next I had the beef tartar which was particularly delicious as well. I loved the presentation with the quail egg yolk still in the shell, and the crunchy home-made potato chips were a perfect vessel for consumption. Another major highlight of the night was the gnocchi which really delivered a savory punch but was well balanced with the sweetness of butternut squash. For main entrees I had the Salmon, while my wife had the beef tenderloin. Both were phenomenal, but that beef I must say wins the head to head on the strength of the absolutely perfect medium rare you get from sous vide. In all, this was one of the better dinning experiences I have had in a long time. Saltus delivers on all levels: service, atmosphere, food and drink. If you're looking for a complete 5 star experience, this is where you want to go in Beaufort.

We are staying at the Beaufort Inn and wants to have dinner nearby. This place had good reviews on yelp so I thought we could check it out. This is a nice place for date night... Low light, not terribly noisy .... You can see the river from the restaurant. And there are outdoor tables for warmer nights. We had the arugula salad and the crab bisque to start. Both were quite good. Had a dozen raw oysters, the local ones. They were fresh, slightly salty, good size. Our next course was the crab cake and the chicken liver pate. My date said the crab cake was good ... Not great. The pate was good. Plenty to share with 2 or 3 more.

Saltus River makes you feel like you are in a hip city reastaurant. It is in the Beaufort downtown district overlooking the bay. Beautiful! Great for a dress up date night. High ceilings and nicely done decor gives you a great feeling when you walk in. We did not have a reservation but it was early and we asked to be seated at the window and were accommodated. Turns out they were not busy this Wednesday evening. Ordered drinks. I had a bourbon drink called the Devils Kiss. It had a peppery hint and a nice kick that was quite inventive, something I had not had before. Did not have a appetizer but there were plenty of delectible selections. Wife ordered the signature shrimp and grits and I ordered a blacked dorado. Both dishes came out fairly quickly. The shrimp and grits has a beautiful rue type gravy with lardons and a wild mushroom that just added a special touch like nothing I have had in this dish before. Nice stone ground grits and nice sized shrimp. The presentation kicked it up a notch. You know I love when a chef takes a traditional dish and does something special to it to make you say, "i would have never thought to do that" Just full of flavor! Very rich The dorado was blackened on top with a wonderful medley of sauted celery leaf and roased fennel and leeks. OMG this was sooo good. Fish was nicely portioned and done perfectly. Each bite with the leek was... and I forgot to say the fish sits atop a potato augratin circle. I mean this fish dish is top five all time in my book. Each bit was that good. I took as much time as I could just so I could get that flavor one more time. There there was a red pepper puree that was a nice touch of color and flavor as well. Saltus was by far the best of the week in Beaufort. This reastaurant could stand out anywhere. The Bar area was large and also looked like a great place to eat if solo. Definitely make a point to stop in for a wonderful meal!

Hands-down one of the best meals my wife and I have ever had - and this is a strong statement considering we live in Charleston. The service was perfect and every person in staff was very pleasant, courteous and attentive. The decor was updated/modern and very well appointed. We started with the wedge salad and raw oysters. Wedge one of best we've ever had and the oysters were excellent (Blue something's - not Point). We then had the BEST crab bisque imaginable and steamed clams in a beer/cilantro/roasted garlic butter broth that was so tasty it required more toasted baguettes to sop it up! For our entree, because we'd had so much seafood the previous day, we took a chance on the "Sous Vide Beef Tenderloin." If you've never had the pleasure make sure to come to Saltus and try it. I don't normally do steak at a seafood restaurant, but this was exquisite...the only word I can think of. Ask how "sous vide" is prepared and it will make sense. Finally, we went ahead and finished up with the vanilla bean creme brûlée and butter pecan pie w/ ice cream. Again, perfectly done and above all expectations. Do not miss this restaurant. It's the best for miles and miles around!

This place was fantastic! We visited on Monday night, October 6, 2014. Our server Justin was AMAZING! He answered all our questions with such knowledge and patience. He gave great recommendations. He was nothing less than fabulous. Our appetizer and my soup came out at the same time (as requested) with time to eat both and still wait, at most 5 minutes for our entrees. Which was absolutely perfect. We had plenty of time to eat and digest before our entrees. We ordered our dessert after we were done eating and it was phenomenal! Again, gave us a perfect time to digest! My husband had a steak that was cooked a perfect Mid Rare with crab lump topping, mash potatoes and asparagus. He ate every last bite! I had lobster tails and asparagus. Delicious! The cheese cake was the lightest, fluffiest cheese cake I have ever had with a perfect amount of strawberry topping! I suggest this place for a very special date night, just the two of you. It was not cheap by any means. We didn't get alcohol and our tab was $95.

Excellent waterfront dining. The scallops with sweet potato hash and maple brown sugar butter glaze was an amazing entree. My wife had sushi and it was good but the a are a bit small. The wedge salad was also very good. The bacon on that was incredible.

Dinner on May 8th 2015. Great server, liked the house drinks and the food was quite good BUT it took the kitchen nearly an hour and half to turn out our 4 dishes. Most tables were full but it didn't appear they were overwhelmed until the food never came and never came. When our server came by after an hour, I asked if they served food - to her credit she went immediately to the kitchen and returned saying our food was being plated next. Ha, funny story, Plated next after the next fifty! As we watched the kitchen door open countless time enroute to some other table. Saving grace: 1. The food was very good and 2. The server knew they had screwed up and brought us deserts and acknowledged our wait. That move saved them 2 stars. We all agreed we needed to come back and stay longer in the quaint town of Beaufort.

This could have been a 5, but having to wait almost 45 minutes for my entree was a bit extreme. The ambience was exceptional. The waitress was very attentive and apologetic, and the scallops were excellent, once received. Will come back for the delicious food.

Excellent well executed food. The special collard green soup with head cheese and mustard was perfectly balanced. The crab bisque was buttery good. We liked the scallops with the creamy grits a lot as well. Gorgeous waterfront dining to enjoy wine, appetizers, or a meal. Of course, the southern hospitality was spot on.

The food is wonderful here! We have never had a bad dish. The duck is cooked to perfection and the beef tenderloin was delicious! I don't think you will go wrong with any dish on this menu.

This was our first stop in historic Beaufort and what an impression! It's located on the water with fantastic views and plenty of outdoor seating. Inside window seating is limited but fortunately we were able to grab a table with a view. If you don't get one of the few tables by the window don't worry the ambiance is wonderful. The decor is both classy and warm capturing the feel of the water. Service: The staff were all very kind but if there was a place for improvement it would be service...kinda. The only hiccup was our servers knowledge of the particulars of the dishes we were considering and the drinks we were considering. Specifically, how the foods were prepared and if the whiskey he recommended was a single or multi malt drink. Still it his service was a 4.5 star performance, if nothing else due his smile, honesty and we what felt like was a general concern for our dining experience. Food: I decided on the mascarpone cheese grits with stewed tomatoes as an appetizer verse a side dish and I must say it was the best grits I've had...at least since I can remember. Don't leave here without trying it! For dinner I had the fried lobster on a bed of rice. Never had lobster prepared this way so I had to give it a try and despite my concerns it was cooked perfectly. My wife had the pork sous vide with corn grits and it was simply fantastic. She's had dishes prepared in a similar way ensuring tenderness but none were as tender as this making this one the best. Drinks: The bar was well stocked and the bartender was a skilled mixer. Likewise the wine choices were quite good. Desert consisted of strawberry shortcake creme brûlée with coffee and it didn't have a chance. Like everything else it was awesome, we ate it all up. Cleanliness: The place looked spick-and-span throughout! I can't say anymore than that. Overall: This was our favorite place we tried while visiting Beaufort...but to be fair the Griffin Market it was only slightly better and only edged it out because of the location and ambience of the river. 5 Stars and we look forward to coming back should we have an opportunity to visit Beaufort in the future.

The fillet mignon and potatoes with crispy onions were delicious!!! Literally melt in your mouth! Our waitress was nice but I got the feeling she wished to be waiting on the older customers around us,she probably mistook us for low tipping teenagers or something (we're both in our early 20's) my husband still gave her a pretty fat tip,as per usual so I'm sure that perked her up. Anyway the food was amazing!! Would definitely recommend.

If this review was based solely on food quality, this place would easily get 5 stars. Our waiter was one of the worst servers. He had no personality, never brought bread, didn't tell us the specials, and took 20 minutes to take our drink order. They ran out of lobster tail, which is what I wanted. Go for the food, but service needs major improvement. He was lucky we tipped at all.
