I've been dining at Castle Hill for about 6 years now, and it only gets better with time. Although some of my menu favorites have been phased out over the years, they have been replaced with other fantastic dishes. I prefer lunch and brunch because the food is fantastic and the prices are more reasonable than dinner. Brunch is only served on Sundays, but at a bonus with your meal you get to enjoy some fabulous live jazz music. There's plenty of outdoor seating with panoramic views, but even on rainy days, the indoor dining room has plenty of windows with views of the bay. The food is consistently wonderful. I haven't had a single disappointing meal here in 6 years. I've dined on everything from steamed mussels and poached lobster to eggs Benedict and fish sandwiches. The cheese plates are fantastic as well, and change regularly. The only less than stellar experience at Castle Hill has been with the desserts I tried recently. The lemon meringue and s'mores parfait were both intended for single servings, but were incredibly sweet, especially the s'mores one. I shared them both with my sister, and we couldn't polish off the s'mores one at all. With that said, Castle Hill still gets 5 stars for 6 years of incredible meals. A couple overly sweet desserts are not enough to deter me from visiting, but it's just something to keep in mind :)

Hands down this was one of three BEST restaurant experiences in my lifetime, and the other two were the famed French Laundry in Yountville, CA and the Metropolitan Club in Manhattan. Like those other two places, the service at Castle Hill Inn's dining room was impeccable! It was warm, efficient, polite and spotless, without any feeling the wait staff was hovering! We went for Newport Restaurant Week, with $35 three-course fixed price dinners, in addition to excellent $35 bottles of wine. We chose the Laguna Chardonnay from Russian River, CA is it was outstanding. We also ordered an additional appetizer of 6 big shrimp with three dipping sauces: avocado; pineapple and Bloody Mary. All were sensational! For the prix-fixe appetizers we had the Lobster Corn chowder and the mussels. Wow! Entrees were Roasted Salmon and Roast Chicken in Wild Rice Gravy! We could have licked the plates, had it been polite. Again, WOW!!! Desserts were the Cheesecake Parfait (so clever and tasty) and a Chocolate Financier Bar. Just excellent, all around, but I say the Cheesecake Parfait was the winner! The atmosphere is the small wooden dining room with fire place and ocean view was simply stunning!! We cannot wait to go back, and dine outside in the summer! Five Stars, no question about it!!

Today was my 9th Wedding Anniversary...this was our 5th trip to Castle Hill to celebrate. Our waiter for the last 4 years has gone...and tonight's meal was not as memorable. The waitress forgot to bring our dessert drink pairing and did not write down the list of wine with my meal. However, we still had a great time and look forward to next year!

The service was excellent. The ocean view is spectacular!! I had the clam chowder which was good. I would have liked more clams in it. The fluke and lobster was good. I only got half a lobster tail. For the price, I should have received a full lobster tail. But it was a nice experience.

Sun set dinner here is a must, romantic and beautiful. We had the clam chowder and tuna tartar as starters, it was good but not spectacular. The clam bake entree was delicious, I would order that again. A little expensive, but the view, the romance and the clam bake (with lobster) was worth the money.

This was the best dinning experience I had in Newport. My daughter and I ate on the patio and sunset. Spectacular view and the food was excellent. We had a salad scallops fish lobster oysters corn and dill potato wedges. All delicious and the view just added to the experience

Wonderful view and would be a nice place for drinks, but very mediocre food for a restaurant of this level. Anything from bread and butter to entrees could be improved. Was out of stock on some wine options and has rather inexperienced servers. A Relais & Chateau property should do much better than that.

Met up with some old friends at this beautiful restaurant last week. Our server Kayla was very courteous and on the spot with lunch and drink recommendations. I had the grilled romaine salad which was delicious along with the fish tacos (equally delicious), while my wife really enjoyed her lobster gumbo. The view and outstanding service alone were worth coming back but the food was tremendous as well! See you soon Castle Hill!

We had the six course tasting menu with the paired wine. Food and service was top notch. Wines, while good, were not as spot on as I would have liked, but did not detract from the meal. Maybe it's just me being a wine geek. Great view of the sunset, pretty room, wonderful place for a special ocaasion.

Wow! Just had New Years Eve dinner at Inn At Castle Hill. To call this "cooking" is an insult. This was art. First course was smoked sturgeon. Presentation was nothing short of amazing. Colors and taste beyond words. Second course was pork belly. Served with asparagus custard and citrus accents. Third course was quail. Served over bok choy with mushroom and sweet breads. Main course was bonded filet and veal with mini Brussels sprouts and layered potatoe and onion topped with cheese. Every bite was pure joy from beginning to end. Our server Dan was exceptional. In fact the entire wait staff was excellent. Made us feel like we were the only customers in the place. This isn't "cooking". This is genius. My only regret is that I am not sophisticated enough in my descriptions of this unforgettable meal. This meal including my generous and well deserved gratuity was about $300. If they doubled the price I would pay it. It was worth every nickel for this unprecedented culinary experience. I was truly awestruck.

Ok; the service was impeccable, attentive, low key, and personal; the dining room was typical old mansion woodsy with water or parking lot vistas, depending on where you were seated. We were there for lunch on a Sunday, and the short menu had their "famous" lobster roll ($24) which was on top of a short list of available choices; it was rather disappointing. The toasted roll, an oversized hot dog bun, was stuffed with chunks of lobster and topped with thin fried onion rings that were lifeless and wilted; It came with a side of chunky cole slaw drowned in what tasted like vinegary watery mayonnaise. We also had a salad ($12) that consisted of colorful greens, thin shaved pickled beets, and a small bit of creamy cheese in a dressing that was flavorful but could not live up to the price by any stretch of your pallet or wallet. A warm sweet 'sticky bun' was delivered to the table before the meal (it looked and tasted a bit like a plain Danish...). All and all, it did not live up to the high expectations (perhaps that was the problem) or the high prices; or, perhaps it was the Lobster roll we had on the Cape ($13.95) that set the standard for a great lobster roll? Hmm.

I'm sorry I'm only giving 2 stars on this review. Based on friends that have been to Castle Hill and other reviews, I expected more from my first experience. Considering this is one of the most expensive restaurants in Newport, I expected perfection. I made reservations on Thursday for Brunch on Sunday at 1pm. I reviewed the menu online and already had in mind what I wanted. I received a call on Friday confirming my reservation. We arrived promptly at at 1 and had to wait for our table. Granted, we didn't wait long but usually when reservations are made, your table is ready and waiting for you. I will say the staff is extremely friendly. We sat and our waitress took our drink order. I ordered the only bellini on the menu which is raspberry. What I received was a mimosa. The waitress was very accommodating. She apologized and brought me the raspberry one I ordered. The menu we were provided was not the same as what is advertised online and needless to say the grilled flatbread with capicola was not on the menu. This is what I was hoping to have. We waited for at least 20 minutes before she took our order for appetizers. We had the mussels with white beans which was awesome. We even asked for more bread to soak up the wonderful sauce (it was sinful to leave it). When we were almost finished with the mussels, our waitress brought their signature cinnamon buns which she indicated she should have brought before the appetizer. They were cold. So now I had to get my mind off the flatbread and decide what to have. I debated on having the lobster roll or fluke on a wonderful sounding arugula salad with chick peas, cucumber and tomatoes. I went with the fluke since it was something different. It was pan seared nicely, good portion, but lacking in flavor. I can't even describe it because it just tasted like fish. The vinaigrette was just boring. There was no salt & pepper on the table so I could not help enhance the dish. Two others in my party had the lobster hash with a poached egg. It appeared to have a nice amount of lobster and they enjoyed it. I do not mind spending good money on an awesome meal, but I have to say it was not worth the $250 including tip for 1 app, 4 brunch/lunch and 6 drinks. I have spent less for much more memorable meals. I know the location is part of the experience, but there are many other restaurants in Newport or elsewhere with a wonderful view. For instance, the Boat House in Tiverton. Again, I do feel bad that I couldn't give a better rating. I may return to sit on the lawn for drinks and apps.
