I was a bit hesitant about Christie's, as the menu is 95% seafood/fish - which I don't eat. However, from the moment we walked in, I was impressed. The decor is very modern, but not ultra posh. A huge '60s-inspired mural lines one wall. My group of 13 was sat in a private room that seemed like a sunporch. The chairs were a mix of metal with a back and orange bowl-like chairs. The loud club music got us in the mood to party (we were Bachelorette Party, after all!), and the $5 Clementine Cosmos helped! I guess Christie's in Asian-inspired (based on the chopsticks at each place setting and the majority of Asian-style food on the menu), but you wouldn't guess that from looking at it. The servers were dressy very casually in plaid button-downs and shorts, lending to the laid-back atmosphere. It's a bit of a mix - modern & chic, yet laid-back and old-fashioned. Our waitress, Stephanie, was a bit young (all the employees were) and she seemed a bit overwhelmed by our loud party, but she was sweet and accommodating and laughed along with us. For appetizers, we went with an order of Edamame (can't go wrong there) and Szechuan Shoestring Fries with an asian mustard. The majority of the group got salads, which were rather small. And the chicken that came with the Asian chicken salad was not coconut chicken, according to my friend. It was regular, grilled chicken (good, but not what was advertised). Seduced by the Gazpacho on the appetizer menu, I went with that for my entree, along with an order of the Beef Sate (isn't it Satay??)... My Gazpacho came and was exactly what I wanted - cool, refreshing, a bit of a kick and tasty. About halfway through it, I realized my Sate hadn't come. So I asked Stephanie to make sure it wasn't on the bill. She said it should have come, and ran back to make sure it would come out. I wasn't very hungry, so I was a bit disappointed that it was actually coming, but when it came out, it was 2 skewers of rectangular beef on a layer of bean sprouts. Now, it was tasty, but I was a bit upset that it was $10! However, Stephanie came over and said that because it took so long, it was on the house. Such a nice surprise!! And, an even nicer surprise was the complimentary fish & chips she brought. Score!! At the end of the meal, the servers and busboys (?) brought over a complimentary dessert for the Bachelorette - Banana Fritters with Vanilla ice cream and some sort of sauce I didn't try. Overall, Christie's is a great place for a group dinner. The food is good, but not amazing (and some of the prices are a bit high), but it's got a great atmosphere, especially if you're ready to party. Also, for our group of 13, it only came out to $35 per person - thanks to the $5 martini special! ;) And thanks again to Stephanie for the rockin' job. :) P.S. The online menu is not 100% the same as the one there.

GREAT BACHELORETTE PARTY SPOT! I love this place! Every time I come to Newport I visit Christies and they always have a bachelorette party there, girls partying dirty!!! They have great house music, awesome beers from Coors Light to Sam Adams. Their triple stack bacon cheese burger with melted cheese sauce is delish! Body shots and jello shooters all night long!

We are still wondering...if they are the best burger in RI, who got second place? Because there must be a mistake?! It was OK at best, the roll wasn't fresh and our burger was overdone. I had the lobster club and that was a good choice. We asked to sit upsairs on the deck, to catch the harbor view....scorching hot, no umbrellas...bring sunscreen. They offer outdoor seating on the ground level...looking into the street?! Yikes... The only saving grace was our waitress was a local college girl...very sweet. She was very attentive, and in a tourist town, with loads of "imported" summer help....we liked the "fresh faced" local kid! With a few minor adjustments, this place can rock during mid week lunch...open up that deck upstairs! That's my advice.

Good food, good service. Nice decor, not very expensive. Liked it overall. We sat outside, I guess for a seaside town, they could have better outdoor views. Not overlooking other people's garages and back yards and trash cans (?)

You've spent a glorious day at the beach. Your skin is still warm and pink (red, in my case) from the sun. After enjoying your square 2ft of surface on the overcrowded beach, all you want now is a relaxing and chill place to eat and restore yourself. If this sounds like you, Christie's is a good choice. The outdoor space upstairs reeks of modern sexiness with funky white furniture and cool blue lights. We sat at the bar because no tables were available, but it ended up being a nice spot. From this outdoor oasis, the view includes the historic Newport buildings, all of which clash lovingly with the ultra-modern design of Christie's. Being here as the sun was setting was a feast for the eyes. The food and drinks were tasty. They have martini deals each day ($5), which already ranks this place high in my mind. The dishes was good, not overly amazing, but very good. The drinks, on the other hand, were excellent. Every dish had a twist, which enhanced the food and made you want to guess what the mystery ingredients were. Although I have not spent much time in Newport, Christie's seems to be a departure from the more traditional lobster house-type restaurants that line the main streets. For that reason, this place is a stand-out in this beautiful little resort town.

Since arriving in Newport, I've been on a conquest for the BEST calamari. To date, this is the best in Newport -- and this isn't my first stop. Love the light breading with black pepper ... fresh calamari is yumm...not rubbery at all! Love it!

Although Newport is not a major city such as NY or SF the locals & visitors do understand & require quality in all aspects of hospitality. And Christie's has delivered beyond this benchmark set by its patrons. From service to food to decor - Christie's is on top of its game. All friendly no attitude environment within a hip funky space containing a super fun crowd. Cool list of cocktails with a great complimentary menu consisting of specialties from fresh local ingredients. Location is right off a perfect sweet artsy alley. Cheers!

I don't know... this place is kind of weird... Feels like they're going for a NYC vibe, I guess I'm just used to classic Newport and wasn't expecting the atmosphere at Christie's. I read Yelp reviews before we went and was expecting more restaurant, less bar/club vibe which was not at all the case. We did go a bit later (845-9pm) on a Saturday night in March, so quiet/off-season is to be expected, but we were one of three tables and and by the time we finished, we were the last table. It was dark and a DJ w/ light show was setting up while we were eating. Manager did ask if we wanted the DJ to turn his music down so that was appreciated. Waitress was fine. Food: Clam chowder was good, lots of clams. I had fish tacos. Could have made them better @ home... Ortega taco shells, swear to god. Boyfriend had the steak over french fries. Cooked well, he enjoyed it. He did feel that the food was incongruent to the atmosphere, felt it should have more "umph" than just a steak served over french fries. Oh, they charge $1.00 for water 'cause it's filtered/served in recycled wine bottles... Basically we're kicking ourselves for not going with our original plan which was to go to Scales and Shells, but when we drove by there, all the tables were occupied (well, duh, 'cause their food is bangin'). So, skip it. Lots of better restaurants in the area to chose from and if there's a wait at a restaurant, that's probably where you want to be (at least in the off season).

Short pours and rude staff. All of our wine glasses were less than 1/3 full. It was like asking the server to give up her first born to bring our glasses back to the bar. Very unaccomodating server and incompetent manager. No substitutions allowed, even if you're willing to pay for it. Please, it's not fine dining if you serve hot dogs and fries.

Decent food and atmosphere. Service was a little slow but we were in no rush. Had the lobster roll and onion rings - both were pretty good altho not the best I've ever had.

The food is great, interesting menu with a good variety of options. The atmosphere is fun, and very lively. The mixed drinks are a little overpriced for Newport ($10), but there are other drink specials and cheaper alternatives. Definitely make a reservation on the weekend, especially if you have a large group.

Not mad at Christies, just mad at Best of RI - Best of what?!!!. Spare ribs I liken to something I would have made in college: turning (as in spoiling), tough, and covered in watery ketchup. So bad and so ready to send back when Hubby swept in and agreed to swap with me (so he could be spared the embarrassment of being married to someone with a discerning pallet). I was pleasantly impressed with the taste of his pad thai with chicken. The sauce was super flavorful but the price was a bit over the top of this type of asian at $14 for a small bow. Where can one find a place where sexy decor meets fabulous food for a moderate dime?

TAPAS! This place is really nice inside an out. Had lunch outside because we had the dogs with us, and Christie's was recommended as being a spot that we could dine at with the pups in tow. Service was great. Had the triple cheese mac n' cheese which was waaaaay toooooo smaaaaall for a grown man, which I was upset about, even more upset because it was delicious. The decor was pretty impressive. Would love to check out the dinner menu and dine inside with all the cool lighting and chairs.

Decent choice - we sat in the funky orange chairs because that's what my toddlers wanted to do! Service was good - our server was new but very helpful! I got the steamers which were a bit too sandy for me. The place was not crowded at all but we were eating a little on the early side.

We were very disappointed in Christie's, especially with the manager of the restaurant. We had the unfortunately experience of having two glasses of red sangria spilled on us after the waitress tripped. The sangria, went all over the my clothing and on to my champagne color purse, which was stained and ruined. Accidents do happen, but when we were finished with our meal the waitress handed us the check and indicated that only the drinks were on the house. We were incredibly disappointed that they didn't offer to dry clean my purse or at least pick up the tab for our $35 meal. We asked our waitress if the manager knew of the situation and she said he did and at that time, she offered to pick up the tab on the meal as well. We requested to see him and he told us that he couldn't pay to replace my purse (I wasn't expecting them to) but could pay for dinner and the dry cleaning of the purse, but would have to confirm with his general manager. When he came back (10 minutes later) he said he would pay for the dry cleaning of the purse as well as buy us another round of drinks but we would now have to pay for the meal because Christie's was not willing to pay for the dry cleaning and pick up the tab. We told him that we did not want another round of drinks, gave him our credit card and told him we were very disappointed and we hoped he would go back and think about his offer and encouraged him to do the right thing. We never saw him again (nor did he once apologize for the mishap). He sent our waitress out who informed us that dinner and drinks were on the house and provided contact information for me to send the dry cleaning invoice. What's disappointing is that we had to work so hard to get good customer service. On top of it, the appetizers ordered were just ok - the scallop dumplings and lobster quesadilla both came out cold. I am sharing this experience so you will be informed before you go there. I had an unfortunate experience and cannot recommend this restaurant on the basis of its customer service. If you should have one issue within the restaurant, we are not convinced you will be taken care of in an appropriate manner.

Christie's was awesome! My fiance had a restaurant.com coupon so we decided to try it out. I am SO happy that we did! The atmosphere is great. It has a very modern/vintage feel with sheik tables chairs and decor. We sat in the bar area which we totally enjoyed, but the upper lounge looked even cooler. We'll sit there next time. SInce I am a vegetarian and my fiancé is not we ordered separately although I think the food is best shared because there is so much to try. I ordered the pita chips and hummus (amazing) and the Asian salad without meat (also delicious). Maybe order light dressing or on the side since it was pretty covered. He ordered scallop dumplings and Thai mussels, both of which he devoured. We shared the shoestring fries which we both enjoyed. It was so much, tons left over, and totally reasonably priced. Next time we will order half as much and still be full. I can't wait to return ASAP!

Calimari, Fish Tacos and Skirt Steak with a couple of glasses of Sauvignon Blanc. All very good and reasonably priced. It was a little loud. OMG! I've turned into an old man.

My husband and I were meeting a couple for dinner and we were planning to go to the Mooring, but there was a private party being held, so they suggested Christie's, since they had been there previously and liked it. We headed on over here and I have to say, it was pretty good. The decorations are...interesting. They have big 50's beach pictures on the walls, and some of the chairs in the dining room we were in were 50s-ish, too. We were there on a Wednesday, and they had a locals special where you could get two entrees and two beers, or two entrees and two wines, for prices in the low $20s total. It was a great deal. The entrees you could choose from were a list of about 7 entrees from their dinner menu. I chose the Fresh Rotisserie Half Chicken and my husband had the Fried Shrimp. My chicken came with roasted vegetables and garlic mashed potatoes. It was very tasty, and was a lot of food. I couldn't finish it all. My husband really liked his shrimp, too; the shrimps were of a pretty good size and it came with french fries. Maybe it was the day we came, but it was not very busy at all. Their website says "Now Open," so maybe this place is pretty new to town. The reason I am giving this a 4 star is because even though it was busy, and our server was very sweet, I still felt our service was a little slow. There were only a few other tables occupied, so it seemed kind of odd that I had to ask her to come by to refill my water when it was empty. However, I would recommend checking this place out, especially during the week if they are having the specials!

As a recent transplant from New York City I often find myself missing the modern, cosmopolitan feel of the city's restaurants and nightlife. Newport is full of great history-laden establishments, but when I need something fresh with a modern sensibility, I immediately head to Christie's. Christie's menu is packed with light fusion fare - nothing too heavy to weigh down the (in)famous cocktails that keep the place packed till last call. My personal favorites are the crab fritters, scallop dumplings, and a very generous lobster club (also thankfully on the brunch menu). Brunch, by the way, is perfect on the patio. Their bloody Mary is the best in town. Dinner hour is usually packed but the crowds really show up after dark for the sexy, loungey vibe, second floor deck seating, and dance floor, flanked by swing chairs. All in all a reliable, popular spot any time of day or night - brunch, happy hour, or a late dinner that inevitably segues into cocktails and socializing.

Great food in the past few months. Huge improvement from last summer. Staff is excited and well informed on the food. The plaid shirts seem a bit odd for the atmosphere but over all I think Christies is taking on a new reputation finally.

We went for an early breakfast on a Sunday morning and we were the only people in the place. The decor and vibe is very 50's so my wife loved it. We sat in the funky orange chairs which were pretty comfortable. We ordered the stuffed French toast which the waitress raved about. It was decent but the ricotta cheese that it was stuffed with was cold and the bread/cheese mix was too much bread. We also got a side of bacon and two cups of coffee. Total price with tip was $42! We expect to pay a litle more for breakfast in Newport but $4 for a cup of coffee is ridiculous. Overall it's gt a great decor but way too pricey for the quality.

I was looking for a place to have a dinner by the water. We asked the hostess if they had outdoor seating with a view. She said yes and sent us up to the upstairs patio. No view. There was however a section around the corner that looked like it had a view. We asked, but the hostess said "that's nothing over there". No wine either because you cant have glass on the patio. We ordered and they brought out our appetizers at the same time as our meal. So we had to push our meals to the side and let them get cold. Anyway, as we are eating the hostess brings someone around the corner to the section that we thought had a view. We ask another hostess and she was also clueless as to what that section is. Do they work here? Was it everyones first night? Anyway, we asked ANOTHER waitress, and she was like, "oh yea! there's a view, I can move you over there if you want!". it was the most bizarre thing i've ever seen. Three people working at the restaurant, including 2 hostesses didnt know all of the seating?????????????????????????????????? between that and the apps I'm not going back here.

Very good food (a 4), incredibly slow service (2). Frustration characterized our dinner, until we received our food and the manager addressed our dissatisfaction. We are pretty easy going people, but the experience dining at Christie's this past weekend was a test of patience. We received our drinks (a draft beer, a margarita and a root beer) 20-25 minutes after we ordered and then only after I asked a waitress who was at the bar. My son's meal arrived about 40 minutes after we ordered, and only because we asked the waitress to please bring his meal, which was the sliders appetizer. My meal (fish tacos) and my husband's (a hamburger) were brought to our table after an hour wait. While I expect slow-paced service in an upscale restaurant, with time to enjoy the food and digest, the wait we experienced was unacceptable for a restaurant of its kind, a lively, fashionable bar-like atmosphere. Our waitress at times was not to be found and then once we voiced our displeasure was attentive. To her credit, she spoke with her manager about the wait. To the manager's credit, he then came to our table to explain why service was slow (they had three tables of ten people arrive right before we were seated, and were overwhelmed) and he did not charge us for our dinner. Although I think they should be able to handle a full restaurant (and the restaurant was not full), the manager's offer was appropriate given the wait we experienced, and we left feeling more positively about the restaurant. The manager's gesture accounts for me raising the number of stars to three. The food was well-prepared, and if the service had been good, I would have given the restaurant 4 stars.

The decor is refreshing for Newport - it looks like a cross between West Elm and Club Monaco. Very white and modern. I can totally see the appeal in the decor. The menu is sort of pan-asian. The crab and corn fritter appetizer is amazing and I would go back again and just order the fritters. And the rose mojito is delicious. The rest of the food (there were 4 of us at dinner) was seriously lacking in ingredients and flavor. The mac 'n cheese had almost no cheese - it tasted like bland pasta with unsalted butter. The green salad, which listed corn as one of the ingredients, had virtually nothing other than the greens. One of my friends found 3 -literally three - kernals of corn in the entire salad. I ordered the Later Gater cocktail, and it looked and tasted like pink dishwater. They were super nice about taking it back, but it should be taken off the menu totally or only served to members in a drunken bachelorette party. So if you're in the mood for crab fritters and rose mojitos in a sleekish South Beach setting, then this is your place. For anything else, you can probably do better at any number of tourist traps in the area.

The poor waitress had to awkwardly tell us they charge $1 for each water glass at the table. What?!? You don't serve tap water, only "filtered" tap water? What is this nonsense? We didn't stay to eat one of the 10 small plates on the menu. Totally disappointed... and out $5... on tap water.

I have fond memories of the delicious and hearty clam chowder here as a child. However, Christie's is no longer the same since the change in either management or ownership. The chowder was absolutely nothing to write home about or even buy from a supermarket. The more trendy and pretentious this place got, the worse the food became. Even the overpriced lobster Mac 'N Cheese wasn't good. Very disappointing.

  • Jeff D.

I was kid when I first went here, but I think it's safe to say that Christie's clam chowder was probably the first clam chowder I ever had. The combination of deliciousness, paired with the environment surrounding that first taste, have led me down a lifetime path of adoration for clam chowder, seafood, and all things food-related. Amazing location, and the best damn clam chowder I ever had. Right on the water, great outdoor porch, and unbeatable when it comes to the nostalgic mind's eye.

This place is very unique, especially when compared to surrounding restaurants. It has an incredibly hip, modern interior with a playful menu to go along with it. The small plates aren't really that small; you can easily make a dinner out of a couple of them. The sashimi tuna flatbread small plate was my favorite. Their cocktails are inventive and pack a wollop; the bartender is not shy about the amount of alcohol poured. The only criticism I have is over the service. Not particularly attentive, all the servers held an unwelcome, slightly abercrombie-esk attitude. No effort was made to let us know about drink specials or make sure we were familiar with the menu. Sort of a "what-r-u-gonna-have" type response. I had to flag a server down for a fork so I could eat my dessert, and she couldn't do more then list the desserts... actually wanting to know what was in the creme brulee (overcooked) or carrot cake (phenomenal) was beyond her. Ultimately, the food was great, but the service didn't match it.

*BAR REVIEW ONLY* There should be more places like this! Stopped here during a glorious summer day with some gal pals. We were dying for some brunch-time cocktails, and while walking we saw a Christie's sign on the road advertising "Bacon Bloody Marys." Done and done! The hostess told us that it wouldn't be a problem to just grab some cocktails, sat us outside, and got us some water. The drinks menu was LUSCIOUS and it gave us a challenge in deciding what to order! I went for a "Cantaloupe Crush" cocktail with muddled cantaloupe, cilantro, and assorted boozy goodness. My companions of course ordered the Bacon Bloody Marys. The quiet side street allowed us to rest our heels and chat for a few minutes while our cocktails were made. They were delicious! My Cantaloupe Crush was light, extremely fresh, well chilled, and the cliantro gave it an intangible herby kick. Really refreshing -- I could've had WAY more than one. Haha. The Bacon Bloody Marys were also out of this world, complete witha bacon garnish and a bacon salt rim. Can you ask for anything better? They also had the right amount of heat and spices, and were the stuff brunches are made of. Would love to come back for more cocktails and to try some of their scrumptious looking food. Pleasant staff, pleasant location, awesome cocktails. Worth a check out for sure!

Meh- Parking is not worth the 30$ when 25ft down the road there is parking for 15$... we'll service started out by loosing the reservation which would have been fine if it wasn't our anniversary (which made me look stupid in front of my wife) Once we finally sat, it was like a game of who's who? Who the waiter who's going to take out order, who even works here. After 20 min of waiting our order was finally taken. We started off with calamari which was good if we wanted three pieces on a plate. Now the main course was good, we had the Surf and Turf which was a filet, lobster and king crap on mashed potatoes and garlic asparagus. Main course was cooked well.. Nothing too extraordinary but the food was good. However for 65$ I would have added a little more good to the main dish it looked a bit cheap.

This is Christies 2.0, long gone is the waterfront restaurant that was a Newport staple for years, replaced by a shadow of itself. Food was fine, but you can get fine anywhere. Waitstaff was really good, bartender was not so good, more interested in staring at their phone than anything else. The old Christies set the bar so high, that Christies 2.0, gets exactly that 2 stars....

Came here on a trip to Newport for drinks and dinner. Very cool place with awesome decor that gives it an old vibe while being extremely modern. Our table had swinging chairs that hung form the ceiling and a huge picture of marilyn monroe on the wall. It was a very upbeat vibe with lots of people having a good time. Overall the vibe was awesome and so was the place. Now the food? Not so awesome... I had the fried chicken and waffles and it was not very impressive at all. The chicken was coated in dough and overall just didn't taste like it was very high quality meat. The waffle was decent, but nothing special at all. We also had coconut shrimp for appetizer which was better than the main course but nothing mind blowing. Overall the food was definitely a bit disappointing. We stayed for a while and had drinks at the bar area which was a lot of fun. Good music and a fun crowd. This is definitely a great place to have drinks and make a night of it, but definitely not somewhere I would recommend for dinner. Four stars for the nightlife and three stars for the food.

Come on and safari with me... Stepping into Christie's in the summer feels a bit like walking into a Beach Boys song come to life. Murals of vintage bathing beauties on the wall immediately get you into the old-time summer mood. The decor is a mix of "mod" and modern. And the location, right on Christie's Wharf nestled in between Forty 1 North and Rhino Bar, is the perfect setting to grab a dependably enjoyable meal: one that isn't as back-breakingly expensive as Forty 1 North, nor as subterranean and isolating as Rhino Bar. Christie's offers al fresco dining in nice weather. It's only the tiniest waterfront view as the restaurant is set back from the marina that Forty 1 North commands, but it's good for people watching. Larger parties are better off sitting indoors, where more plentiful seating abounds. The staff at Christie's are friendly and accommodating. Last Friday my boyfriend and I arrived with only 45 minutes to grab a quick dinner before a show. We were immediately greeted by the manager, Kat, and seated at a table outside. Our server deftly handled our orders and made sure we received our bill in time; our schedule was accommodated and we didn't feel rushed in the least. I've had many dishes over the course of several visits here, including a wonderful beet and gorgonzola salad, the Christie's burger, macaroni and cheese, fresh seafood entrees (the tilapia - wow), as well as the calamari appetizer. The food is very good, across the board. If you are on Christie's Wharf and looking for a great dinner that won't break the bank but is a quintessentially "Newport" experience, look no further than Christie's.

This is hands down my favorite restaurant in Newport. I love the whole theme of the place. The giant mural of the pin up girls makes me smile every time and I love the modern feel. The orange chairs in the back are my favorite place to sit! The asian salad with coconut chicken and pad thai with chicken gets me every time. Their martinis are just as delicious and just ONE gets me tipsy. Prices are totally reasonable and while the menu is pretty limited, everything on it is tasty so give everything a shot. Portions run kind of small, especially if you are dining with big appetite people. You might have to get multiple dishes to ease that appetite! Every time I have a guest come to visit me I try to take them to Christie's because it's just that good.

Take an old, seasoned port building, add a whole lotta funk and a pinch of quirkiness with dash of elegance, and you have the atmosphere of Christie's. It's super sleek and modern without feeling out of place on Thames St, which is a feat. It's beautiful, hip, and I gotta say... I like it. While Christie's is certainly popular for dinner and drinks, I have frequented this spot on several occasions for lunch, and would recommend it to anyone. There is a definite Asian theme to them menu, but it has something for everyone. There are definitely some fab items to dive into, like the Lobster Club. Ummm.... yes. Yes and yes. While the Pad Thai wasn't my favorite, I ate the whole plate (which wasn't a small portion, kids). The Asian Salad and Crispy Calamari were super-fresh decent and enjoyed by all. All in all, it ain't knock-your-socks-off grub, but I keep coming back to Christie's and I never leave displeased. The servers are friendly, the atmosphere lively and fresh, and the food is tasty. Three stars it is!

This review is purely for Thursday nights which is GOSSIP. GOSSIP is basically the ONLY place in Newport that has a gay night. Andy, the DJ spins some super fresh jams ranging from old skool Madonna to Gaga, to some great mash-ups of all things fabulous! The clientele are great, and there is a nice range of people. I was surprised that there was actually a pretty decent crowd that wasnt gay. None the less, its a great place with a great vibe and fun energy. People leave their bad attitudes at the door, and have fun!

And fun was had by all. When the restaurant stops serving meals the place turns into a bar / dance club of sorts. Last Saturday was no different. The place was hopping and the DJ was popping. He seemd to have an endless supply of hip, fun, danceable music. The bartenders (Will and his twin brother) make a damn fine cocktail and are great with customer service. Be sure to stop in and check out the action on a Thursday, Friday or Saturday night. You will be glad that you did.

So, I ate here years ago (5 or so) and was told later that ownership had just changed and/or was in the process of changing. We went there because we heard the chowder was ridiculous. It was. SO SO SO DELICIOUS! By far the best I have ever had on either coast. However- the service was ridiculous too- in a bad way. My husband and I walked in, we looked young.... and were seated by the hostess. We had no flatware, and waited 10+ minutes for our waitress to come over to even take a drink order. That drink order you ask? It was taken by the hostess!! She saw us waiting and felt bad and got us water. My husband and I were met by two more (older) and suddenly the waitress shows up. We place our orders and wait. And wait. And wait. All to be followed by more waiting. We had an appetizer delivered prior to our other 2 guests showing up- but the hint plate and side plates were never bussed. I did that myself after 30 minutes or so of waiting. So far- we are at 45 minutes or so of being in the restaurant and we haven't been served or main entrees. We flag down the manager- via the hostess- who mozies over and is less than concerned about our awful experience. Our food finally arrives and had clearly been sitting under the heat lamps for quite sometime. I need to point out. The place was not busy. Had out waitress been bogged down I would have been completely understanding.... but she wasn't. The food was nowhere near as good as the chowder. Not. Even. Close. ESPECIALLY given the price. We left highly annoyed.... in fact I evened out the bill with the waitress' tip. A whopping 14 cents. That awesome tip also came with a note reading: "If you hand't assumed we were a cheap young couple with no cash, you could have had an amazing tip. Thanks for literally nothing." A little harsh? Maybe. But my husband was in the restaurant business and we know that the night's setting was not warranting for any of the awful experiences we had. 2 stars is being nice.... and it's just because the chowder was so awesome!

Came here last weekend for a couple drinks. I haven't been here since the remodeling, and I love it. I think it might be trying to be more of a night club than it is, considering we were there on a Saturday night and the outdoor patio was pretty packed, and the downstairs 'club' area went from almost empty to 25% full at various points throughout the night. I'm from NY where the bars don't close, so I find it useless to try to go to a night club in Newport where last call is at 1245am... Was that snobby? Anyways, I loved the outdoor bar, and the fact that Christie's had 4 bathrooms to choose from (biiiig plus). I'm not sure if it was Svedka promotion night, but the drinks were awesome and strong! Thanks, Bill. Oh, and you're going to find the super, trashy wasted stumblers for sure - but it seems like Newport nightlife lends itself to that sort of behavior. All in all, I'll definitely be back, had a great time and the bar on the porch was exactly what I was looking for that night.

The food here doesn't need to be great because the atmosphere and drinks make the experience. This place is too cool for school. You enter and there's a little area with an indoor fire pit encased in a coffee table. I want one. We got the ribs, which are supposed to resemble Chinese ribs, honey-glazed and whatnot ontop of rice. Both of us said the same thing upon the first bite... "is that A1 sauce?" I can neither confirm nor, deny but it tasted like it. The flavors were all a little amiss but the meat was very tender. There were too many little bones in my ribs though. Sharp, tiny pointy ones that I had to keep pulling out of my bites. I gave up half-way through. The corn crabcakes were decent but still fairly bland and only came with a spicy brush of sauce to dip in on the plate. I did adore their macaroni & cheese, it was pretty tasty and I was glad to have this place redeem itself because I really wanted to love it. Luckily also, their banana fritters (aka fried bananas) are delicious. Definitely get those. Besides that, the cocktails were great, my boyfriend enjoyed his two Old Fashioned's and I adored my two Pimm Cups. They give alcohol with a heavy hand which is nice. This place seems to be trying to be upscale but they're only hitting their mark in terms of style. The food has a long way to go.

I had a great Sat. night experience here last weekend in RI. I found this place browsing through the Restaurant.com list, and when multiple yelp reviewers say it's cool, it is COOL! =) Urban, chic, lively lounge kind of atmosphere, with waitresses dressed in cute plaid shirts.. All white modern furnishing and open lounge, dining area on the second floor. food: -- tuna on flatbread appetizer $13 - my favor of the evening, tasty and not too filling. -- lobster quesadilla appetizer $13 -- not too great, can't taste much lobster and the thing is kinda bland. -- miso cod $19 main entree -- the cod is tender and fresh, but the miso flavouring is far short of the ones I've tried in CA.. overall, has a clean, light taste... overall, it's a cool, chic place to come to if you don't mind drop $50+ on dinner.. =) It's about the right price given it's central location in Newport RI.. The management there is awesome and does want to attract their customers.

First off, if you don't know how to make a Seabreeze, then ask someone how to do it. I ended up with a mostly cranberry juice drink (I'm pretty sure there was no grapefruit juice whatsoever) I ordered a salad and a 1/2 dozen oysters, since I was dining at the somewhat awkward hour of 4 pm. The oysters were pretty tasty. However, I'm picky about oysters and they were not the best specimens I'd ever consumed. I have also been to Christie's several other times: for drinks, breakfast and lunch. I love that they offer outdoor dining. During the day, when the weather is nice, I have no desire to eat indoors. Their indoor decor is ultra contemporary. I think an lot of older, middle aged people would be turned off by it. Their menu is halfway decent. They offer a smattering of seafood type as well as American options. Christie's is a good choice if you are looking for a trendy Thames Street restaurant.

This restaurant was connected to our hotel, and saw the sign re martini night, asked our concierge about it, and $5 alone was reason to stop by...also super cute decor (boyfriend said it reminded him of napa)! Not sure if it's just Thursday nights, but there was a super loud DJ (although i do love techno), and it was gay night - I love the gays, but it was def super packed...the martini options weren't necessarily my favorite (the first 2 we got were similar to cosmos) then the espresso was definitely better than that, but it would be awesome if they'd add another option...but that said, theyre only $5, so really can't be too picky. Menu looked decent (albeit overpriced compared to the majority of newport), cute ambiance, would possibly return for dinner - and martinis if we got there a bit earlier before it was absolutely packed.

Christie's is a chic spot hidden in an alley next to the Rhino bar and Grill, just off the corner of Thames and Memorial street. The decorations at this place are pretty artfully arranged and unique. Wicker seat/swings and colorful decorations give the place a look that is half ikea, half 50's old fashioned. Large windows allow lots of light to the open floor plan, and there's usually alot of room for the amount of people frequenting the establishment. 5$ Martinis! As long as Christie's offers a few flavors of martini for 5$ a peice, i'll be willing to come back for more. They bring a DJ in on weekend nights to provide background noise at a reasonable level, and the bartenders are fun and friendly once they warm up.

Food was very good. I had memories of the old location overlooking the water, so when I initially arrived I was disappointed. The restaurant was empty for Brunch. They kept the door open and it was very breezy outside...needless to say we kept out jackets on inside. The waitress grew up local and was fantastic. I'd return for the food and service.

hip atmosphere, prime location, good prices for location and ok quality. (fish taco's in hard ortega-like shell and burned bruschetta bread) service was timely but waitress had a serious attitude. bartender was sweet but $18 for two shots...

The hostess seemed to be both waitressing and hosting and it took her a while to get to us, than we seemed to stump her with our question, if we could sit outside at one of the open tables. After a few more minutes, the answer was they were reserved. Finally we got seated inside and our waiter was very friendly, food was kind of slow to come out but the lobster roll and chilli cheese dog were delicious!! Rating based on food would be a 5, the poor way it seems to be managed takes a star away. Also the bathrooms were disgusting- it was later in the evening on the 4th of July so I'm blaming it on a busy bar day.
