Seems like very time I am in Newport I find my way to KeenWah. It is always a pleasant atmosphere and clean. It's wonderful to go and have a smoothie or juice, a fresh start to your day. There's a good many things to pick from that are local, sustainable or organic which is wonderful. Theirs prices are that of any other natural cafè and I find them very responsible, except to spend 20 dollars however, it's money w'll spend. What I also like is they are willing to do substitute this or that to suit your needs. I would stick with things in season though, my friend had a breakfast sandwich and decide on a tomato, which she said would not have been her first choice had she realized. All in all it's a great little natural cafè to come and sit. Oh, there is WiFi among request as well.

Great place for the granola cruncher on you. You will pay a little more, but if you are like me and like quality, you won't mind. Friendly folks, excellent quality food. I'm coming back!

Smoothies are way overpriced!!! The edamame wrap was good and the BBQ tempeh burger was just okay. I'd probably eat here again because it's one of the only health foods restaurants in the area but I'd have to be prepared to drop $18 and be left wishing for a bit more.

it has more potential, prices are high for quality of food and portion

Meat eaters welcome! I took my wife because she is vegan, and she was totally thrilled not to have to edit all her food as she does at traditional restaurants. Being a meat eater myself I was worried I'd go hungry, but they have burgers and a variety of sandwiches. Interior is very interesting decor - overall great experience. Tip: make sure you know they close by 4 p.m.

We had high hopes for Keenwah, but after waiting for close to an hour to get our order, the food tasted like the bottom of my shoe. Our party included lots of natural and organically oriented foodies from NYC, so it was a big disappointment. Their response to the mixed up order and long wait was to tell us it was very busy. They should have comped our meal to avoid having us all come here to tell you to go to Franklin Spa instead!

Felt the food was bland and nothing creative. I'm glad this place is organic and sources local ingredients but the use of the ingredients fall short when it comes to the dishes. Hopefully this place improves.

Have been twice and had two burgers. I will say by far that the Bison burger was amazing. I was in awe of it. I don't know how I will order anything else after how much I loved it.

The restaurant is amazing. They have a variety of healthy feel good snacks, meals and smoothies made with all natural ingredients.

Food is still pretty good, but the staff is sooo inconsistent. We waited 35 minutes for a muffin last week, but this week, the wait for our two entrees was miniscule. I haven't seen the manager lately, so I'm not sure if it's a lack of authority that would account for the decline in service. Oh yeah, and why are "day old" muffins the same price as "fresh" ones? THAT is unacceptable!

I admit that I am a Yelp leach. I take a lot - searching with hope for new gems daily in NYC - and offer little back. Today, I have the chance to make good for this unfair imbalance. Keenwah. Come eat here. It is a Newport gem a bit off the beaten path of the sailor, wedding goer, and tourist. The food is fresh, organic, local, creative, and absolutely delicious. Try one of their pizzas, have and Acai bowl (Purple People Pleaser), and ask the employee taking your order for a recommendation. We are here four times throughout the weekend and were happy with every bite. Congratulations, you found a gem.

Love this place! Great food and friendly service. The muffins are incredible- they never disappoint! Gluten free options available too!

I came in for lunch yesterday for the first time and fell in love with the place! I tried the BBQ tempeh burger and it was one of the best burgers I've ever tasted and it wasn't even made of beef! The staff was super friendly and helpful and I'll definitively be coming back soon!

  • Nubia B.

Ah, these guys definitely earned those 5 stars! Here's the down-and-dirty: this is the only place to get a vegan lunch in the Newport area, and they do their job WELL. The food is super-fresh, and VERY quickly prepared. Plus, each time I've walked in, the friendly staff behind the counter have eagerly recommended a winner from their menu each time I was looking to try something new. AND (!) they're willing to share how something was prepared, if you want to try to replicate it at home! (The white sauce that comes with the veggie burger totally knocked my socks off...) How neighborly is that? The eatery interior has a newness to its chicness -- but still VERY inviting. Even the bathroom impresses! (I dig the industrial look. I like to be reminded of "Mad Max at the Thunderdome" when I'm taking care of business.) Yeah, it's expensive. No contest. It's also devoid of that dose of self-loathing you get for free from the Wendy's drive-through, so ... there's also that.

Love love LOVE this place! So thrilled to have at least ONE veg-friendly place here in Newport! Friendly staff + DEE-LICIOUS FOOD! Try the BBQ Tempeh burger with grilled pineapple, avocado, lettuce and sweet potato wedges with chipotle aioli! Can't wait to come back and try something else!

Just left this restaurant on a quick pass through Newport. They have something for every particular diet! Vegan, vegetarian, raw, meat eater. The food is fresh and delicious. The prices are very reasonable and staff is friendly and attentive. If you want healthy fresh eating this is a GREAT option!

The staff is really friendly and the food is Amazing! I haven't ordered something I didnt like. It can be a little on the pricey side but its worth it! Atmosphere is laid back and chill.

Food- They have good sandwiches and wraps. I come here a lot with my vegan friend because they have a lot to offer here for her. I had the tempeh burger both times. Price- It's a lot and I know it's organic, but I really don't care if my food is organic or not. Service- It's been pleasant both times I've been. Atmosphere- Big windows inside and outside dining available. It's fine for what it is, a place I won't often go to unless I'm with my vegan friend. The prices are too much to warrant anything else.

  • Kelly M.

I love KeenWah. Im a health nut and live nearby so I go often and enjoy all of their options from prepared salads to wraps and sandwiches. Breakfast is amazing, and don't forget the parfaits! People often complain it is pricey, but if you eat and buy organics often, you know you are getting what you pay for. Even so...it's still not so bad! You could go by a personal pizza for a meal for more money than a KeenWah meal and get a whole lot of bread and cheese and less nutrients. I guess it depends on what you like.

It's hard to believe this place is owned by the same folks who run A-market on Bellevue. Staff -- rude. how many potato counts before you ask if I want my items in a paper bag? And about as pretentious as the misspelled "superfood" this place is named after. Prices -- if you pay for utilities in Newport, you know that water ain't cheap here; most soups consist of water, in one form or another (i.e., broth, cream, vegetable juice); and while I admire the effort that goes into creating a tasty melange, a cup o' soup can set you back $6, which is what you'd pay at a fine dining establishment -- served by a nice waiter, with silverware, tablecloth et al. Might as well make your own with a gallon of Fiji water.

I had been seeing friends check-in to Keenwah, but it still wasn't on my radar. Then, on my way down Broadway hungry for lunch, the sign jumped out at me and into the lot I turned. I am so glad that I did. I was there for lunch hour -- but the breakfast items are served the whole time they are open. I opted for a breakfast burrito with scrambled egg, quinoa, sauteed greens, GF wrap, and bacon (I asked they leave the cheese out). It was served with sweet potato homefries and orange slices. Just what I wanted, even though I didn't know what I wanted. I look forward to going back and trying the chicken salad or one of the burgers. Food items can be vegan, vegetarian, or for the carnivore too. The menu is such that if you have dietary restrictions of any kind, you will likely be able to find something to your liking. The food is fresh and made-to-order. The space is light and airy. You can eat-in or take-out. For beverages, there's a variety of bottled soda / seltzers, tea, and coffee. Looking forward to the next trip and something else to try.

Such a fantastic menu for my healthy foodie self! I'm gluten and dairy free & had no problem. Amazingly delicious!!! If I had my laptop I would stay all day and keep eating! Awesome service. Note: we came on a Sun at 8am. One of two folks here.

Good service. Very friendly staff. Healthy vegan/ vegetarian/ organic/ carnivore options.

  • Robert K.

They were busy. Stood at the order counter for about 10 mins. Not one staff member greeted me. Including the lady making smoothies that was 8 feet from me. She just glanced at me as I entered. The rest of the staff tried to avoid me till they caught up. The old courtesy "we will be right with you" is not a core value here. Why I gave 3 stars. Food is good tho. Had the hummus wrap and it was delicious.

  • Billy F.

My review may be a bit biased because I got take out and when I got back to my hotel they have me the wrong burrito. Anyways, it is an all-natural type of place and they have so many delicious sounding things on the menu it's hard to pick. I have a feeling if I didn't get the wrong order i would have enjoyed it. def worth a shot for lunch.

  • Danielle V.

Food is excellent. Three stars is for the rude service we received from the manager Ed.

  • Gina S.

I am vegan. So while I'm not a huge fan of this place, I will most likely return- because it's one if the few places in Newport to get a vegan meal. I think the food is pretty good - I'm not sure the prices are warranted... On my last visit, the breakfast pizza for my Mom took over 20 mins, and it wasn't too busy...? My Moms elderly. So that did not go over well. Also I bought a vegan muffin that I discovered was really bad- when I got home. I mean like rancid, smelled like a dead animal bad.

  • Kirstin B.

Found this gem after passing so many lackluster tourist traps with no serious vegetarian options. I almost cried when I ate my BBQ tempeh burger, I was that happy. Also had a nice green smoothie. Healthy, flavorful, and just what this town needs.

  • Erin M.

I've only managed to happen upon this place actually being open once. Every other time I have walked or driven by, it is closed. How does a breakfast place not open until after you have to be at work? The one time I found it open, as I had called off from work, I had a lemon bar; it was fine, I guess, Hence the additional star.

    (2)
  • Katie V.

The food is amazing and most of the staff is super nice and helpful, but the older man (possibly a manager) who works here is THE WORST. He is rude, unwelcoming, unfriendly and makes you feel like you are being an inconvenience to him. I feel bad for the people who have to work with him even. This place would be 5 stars to me except for this one person and sadly he is there most of the time.

  • Matt T.

I wish I could find a breakfast place at home like this that has REAL mostly organic healthy food. Who ever decides the menu has a pretty solid understanding of nutrition and is good at making food taste good as well! I ate here 3 times in the past 3 days and only had attentive service and quick food. So keep an open mind and enjoy a breakfast that will pick you up not slow you down:)

Ordered two eggs over light with toast, my friend had a smoothie. After 20 minutes noticed 'chef' chatting with hostess. Asked about eggs. The eggs came to the table - they were weensy, overcooked and cold. My friend said her smoothie was good.

Passed by this place a bunch of times this past few months and have been really wanting to try it. When I finally went to grab something to et before work I was happy I did. I picked up the chicken rice avocado and bean burrito. It was delicious and I was surprised it came with sweet potatoes and slices of orange. One of the best burritos I have had. Can't wait to show my girlfriend and friends this place.

Do you like being talked down to by people in thick rimmed glasses and flannel shirts? Do you like paying extra for gross food because it is "organic"? Do you like having your food placed on the counter and no one notifying you when its ready? Do you like trying to park with a maximum of 4 parking spots? If you like the above listed go to Keenwah's for a lesson in caveman like manners and learn how to overuse health food terminology to the point of nausea. Its spelled Quinoa btw.

Stopped into Keenwah after much intrigue over the photos and reviews. A much needed organic restaurant without the fluff in Newport. Stopped here for a quick lunch and upon reading the menu I was so pleased to see that nearly everything (around 95%) of what they offer is organic. This was such a welcomed sight to me. In RI we have a serious lack of Acai Bowls so I ordered myself a Purple People Pleaser and sat out on their patio to enjoy my brief lunch. All in all - any place that offers Acai bowls on this side of the country has my heart. It was a little small for what I paid (considering what $8 gets me for other acai bowls). But it was delicious nonetheless and paired graciously with amazing granola that you could truly tell was non-processed. I will definitely be back as the smell of the food when I entered was unforgettable (must be the grass fed burgers!)

Enjoy a healthy breakfast on the patio with an organic ice coffee! You can also bring your dog on the patio to enjoy the calm atmosphere. The local yokel is excellent!

As another reviewer said, don't love the name, but the selection of healthy bites is truly fantastic. And Anywhere that serves Yerba Maté on tap is my kind of place. I have had super fresh, tasty juices here and I recently tried a house salad with chicken. The greens were a tad wilted and the salad was smaller than I expected for the price but the homemade Keenwah cakes were delicious and I loved all the pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds and goji berries. The dressing was also excellent, a tangy blend of Goji berry, oil and vinegar. It was delicious! While waiting in line, the case of raw muesli with chia seeds called to me and I will definitely be back. It's the muesli I've been too lazy to make but have seen prepared beautifully on Instagram. Haha. I find the prices a little high but that's to be expected for high quality food. And it definitely wouldn't stop me from returning or recommending. Yay Keenwah!

This place has the perfect vibe and axing customer service. All food is fresh and healthful and of course delicious. The have local, omnivore, vegetarian and vegan options as well as a juice bar. I highly recommend it to any one looking for a snack, meal, or just a beverage. They have a great little garden seating area outside as well as comfy living room style chairs and tables in side.

First time decided to try for lunch. Had to wait about five mins for someone to come over to take order at register then they asked the two ladies that just came in the door for their order first completly looking past me. I didn't worry about it too much, maybe I wasn't doing the proper waiting to order stance. There were maybe about ten people in there and it didn't take long to get my food. I ordered the organic burger, beware it comes without cheese, but it is still very good. They give you a few giant sweet potatoe fries which I believe we're baked and very good also. Over all good, kinda weird at the begining but strong finish.

Cute place. Came here when I was having strict dietary restrictions and had no problem finding something on the menu. I had the jerk turkey burger with no bun and it was amazing. The people are super nice. Loved it here!

If you're into vegan food or you want to fuel your body with a healthy meal, Keen-Wah is the place to go in Newport! Our friends visited during our time in Newport, and it was so good we came twice. We couldn't get enough of the burritos and their vegan pastries.

Best health food in Newport. Susie is there every time we go and love to say hi to her. Have had almost everything on the menu and always been impressed. Vegetarian and vegan options. Tempeh burger is great. So is the homemade veggie burger. Love the wraps and breakfast burritos. They toast the muffins which are delicious. Also had the acai bowl this last time and loved it. Love to go here and read the nytimes while nomming.

Delicious, healthy food! I got an Original Burrito on a yummy Teff Gluten Free Wrap with tofu. So good and I loved the baked sweet potato home fries that come with it. I will be back many times.

Feels like a little taste of California. Love that I can walk here, have a healthy plate of food, and sit outside in the sun. Yes, it's a little pricey - welcome to Newport. I haven't had the service issues mentioned by others. Service has always been friendly and food has come out quickly, delivered with a smile. One of my go to places in town.

I didn't want to like this place. Mainly because, quite simply, I hate the name. I lived down the street from it for a year and never went there...somewhat in protest because of the name. I know...petty. Sometimes I am petty. But, if you see, I gave it 5 stars. Here is why, the servers are always lovely--very personable, cute and quirky in an ETSY sort of way. Anyhow, I have gotten a few of the smoothies (yum) but really, it doesn't get much better than the edamame hummus wrap. Seriously, it is so good. It is multidimensional (the dried edamame might put it over the top for me). So so good, I couldn't even take a star away for the horrible name. it is Quinoa...I realize you make light of it on your menu for haters like me but come one...ehg. This may be the only begrudging 5 stars I have given. Damn you delicious edamame wrap...

Delicious food for the whole family. We had three original burritos: one with eggs, one with tofu salad and one with chicken. Iced green tea was refreshing. Will definitely come back.

I think this place is great in theory. I walked in and was super excited about the menu, but my breakfast burrito was disappointing. It lacked flavor despite it's appealing description, they were not very generous with the feta sun dried tomatoes and pesto. I did enjoy the green smoothie. Pricey as well, but expected.

We were here when the doors opened, we found out about Keenwah on Yelp the night before and couldn't wait to get her in the morning! The atmosphere was nice, the service was kind and quick, and the food was delicious! We both had the Macchu Picchu breakfast burrito and enjoyed it immensely! We will definitely look forward to stopping by on our next trip through Newport!

I ate at Keenwah with family towards the end of our 24-hour stay in Newport. My mom, brother and I are from New York City and have a select few all-natural, organic restaurants that we visit monthly. After eating our delicious meals at Keenwah, we unanimously agreed that the quality of food was on par with restaurants in Manhattan. My brother ate the BBQ beef burger and said it was delicious, healthy, satisfying and, as an added bonus, cooked perfectly. My mother and I shared a breakfast sandwich that was also delectable. I had what was called the "Bird Knows Best", which was a combination of oats, millet, and quinoa with hazelnuts, blueberries, lemon zest and other things...all topped off with a Greek yogurt dressing. Amazing. I even took a picture of the recipe on the description card so I can make it at home. To finish off, the three of us shared a Southwestern thin-crust pizza and devoured it. The service was great and Susie was helpful, attentive, and provided fun and interesting conversation during the course of our meal. Overall, everything was wonderful AND 100% organic ingredients! If you can't already tell, I recommend this place tenfold and hope you all have the chance to eat here if you are a local or happen to be traveling through. I Keenwah!

The food was alright. But they forgot my avacado on my egg sandwich!!!! Huge disappointment. The home fries had an interesting zest and I found a small cauliflower at the end of my meal.

June 20, 2014 Working in Newport has been strange. Although I enjoy the city, I think it's more on a "wouldn't want to live there" scale. I'm more of a Cape Cod gal at heart. I find it much less pretentious. For this edition of Laura's Lunch, I decided to take myself to a place that all the cool kids at work like to frequent - Keenwah (that's "quinoa" in hipster). At first I thought the purposeful misspelling was cute, but now it just irks me - especially after eating there. I pulled into the parking lot and stepped inside to look over the menu since they don't have a working website (annoying when you just want to pop in and out during a lunch break). There was a lot to choose from, but it was all ... odd. Now please don't think that my fat ass has never been in a "super food eatery" before. I've eaten healthy food; I've seen healthy food. My problem was that there were SO many ingredients in each item that I had a funny feeling the overall taste would be flavorless. I decided to order an acai energy smoothie ($7) which consisted of organic acai puree and powder, strawberries, bananas, green tea and soymilk. I also chose "The Macchu Picchu" burrito ($8), which was organic quinoa, spinach, sundried tomatoes, non-dairy walnut pesto, feta cheese and choice of scrambled eggs, tofu or tempeh in a sprouted wheat wrap served with sweet potato home fries or fries and orange wedges. My total came to $16.20, which shocked the hell out of me because I hadn't been paying attention to the prices. I know that's an insane amount for one person's lunch, but I was hoping for a good experience. I waited quite a while because they were making everything fresh, which was a good thing. I looked over the menu and noticed that they seem to cater to people with food allergies or those on restrictive diets (i.e., gluten-free, vegetarian, etc.). I should mention that the interior was very cute and trendy and outdoor seating is also available. The staff was also very friendly, especially when I had realized at the last minute that I never did choose between scrambled eggs, tofu or tempeh in my burrito. The waitress informed me that scrambled eggs (which I don't even like) were going in by default. My mistake. When my food arrived, the waitress brought it over to me in a little cardboard box. I took a quick sip of the acai smoothie and it was very thick and had a strong berry taste. I couldn't recognize any other flavor. It was like a mixed berry yogurt, but that's pretty tasty so I had no problems with the smoothie. I did think it was a little small for $7. I returned to work and opened the box of food. It seemed like they kind of just threw everything inside, but whatever. I was hungry. For my sides they gave me sweet potato home fries and orange wedges. The orange wedges were OK, but I'm not really a fan. The sweet potato home fries were good, but they were cold and a little too mushy. This actually could have been an awesome side dish if they had been cooked a little more because I love the taste of sweet potatoes. As for my burrito - bleh. I mean, I wasn't disgusted or anything. It wasn't the worst thing that I've ever had. I just didn't like the flavor combination and unfortunately I found out that I don't like quinoa! It looked like fish eggs and had a gritty/grainy taste and texture. My mouth had a weird aftertaste for the entire day. There was almost no feta cheese (my favorite) except for one pathetic attempt to include a piece at the very bottom of the burrito. The eggs were eggs (nothing special, but they were a little cold) and everything else tasted strange. I will say that for $8, you do get a pretty large burrito. I was full until the evening and I guess the only good thing that came out of my lunch is that it kept me from snacking before dinner. * Minutes from the office: One. * Cost of the meal with drink: $16.20 (ridiculous!) Will I be going to Keenwah again? Only for the smoothies. There are a couple of other ones I'd like to try but I definitely won't be ordering the food again. It's just not my style. If I'm doing healthy, I'd want a piece of fish with a side of vegetables or a big salad with grilled chicken. Different strokes for different folks, I guess. Food and idea is good. The service is both slow and contemptuous. Rude, assuming, and know-it-all attitudes are present at this establishment.

My husband and I had lunch here today. It was fabulous. I had the adult grill cheese with a small house salad and a cup of the Thai chicken coconut soup. My husband had the chicken salad sandwich. It was all delicious and fresh. The staff was very friendly and polite. We will definitely be going back.

Vegans, vegetarians and carnivores alike will appreciate this spot. Great food options, chill atmosphere, pleasant enough staff. Pricey, but you get what you pay for as they say. If it's available, check out the grilled tempeh burger with avocado and pineapple. Good stuff. The experience was good enough to visit twice the same weekend.

Three stars right now but I'm keeping an open mind and will be sure to try it again. It's a little difficult to navigate when you first walk in if you've never been. The layout is fairly awkward because you order at the counter right by the door but there are so many other food offerings in the cases BEYOND the counter. I ordered the Veggie Burger off the written menu but then had so much food envy when I saw all the other options that were available once I had sat down at our table. The Veggie Burger was more of a brown rice burger but it was really good with a nice char-grilled flavor. I requested the Gluten Free bun and I think it was actually a better bread-to-burger ratio than the regular bun my sister got with hers. The baked sweet potato fries were tasty but were pretty gummy by the end of my meal. The prices are a little steep even considering they are serving many local and/or organic ingredients. Seeing as they are still fairly new, it may be a good idea for them to ask customers if they've been there before and if not, it'd be real nice if they let you know there are other cases you can check out before ordering and also to just explain the way the order-here-eat-there concept works since it isn't obvious right when you walk in. Vegan, gluten free, food allergy friendly with a focus on local, sustainable and organic offerings. They also have many bulk items that would be great for packing for the beach such as pasta salads, bean salads, stuffed portabella mushrooms and more. All in all, I do genuinely hope that Keenwah can iron out the wrinkles and became a Broadway mainstay for years to come.

Service was rude, and food was just average. When ordering, I mispronounced "tempeh" as I was asking if the tempeh burger was spicy (with smoky chipotle BBQ sauce). The response was a rude correction of my pronunciation, followed up with a snarky "the temPAY with the smoky chipotle BBQ sauce? What do you think?" Well, that's why I was asking. I would've walked out but was with a group. I ended up ordering a Machu Picchu wrap. The wrap was good, the sweet potato homefries were not. When our food came, we noticed that there was still a sticker on the tomato in my friend's burger. The tomato hadn't been thoroughly washed, and was served with a slice of sticker. If you don't notice stickers on your produce, what else could be there? The food might not be snobby but the service was. And I certainly wouldn't call a lingering sticker on a tomato superfood. Despite the wrap being pretty good, I won't be back.

Very nice little spot, I came after lunch so there was nobody else in there when I ordered. Food came quickly, I got a bbq tempeh burger, and an edemame hummus wrap, they were awesome! I will definitely be adding this to my Newport route. I will be returning soon to try the breakfast items, and very much look forward to it.

This place is amazing. I'm surprised at all the reviews that claim staff there is rude, because in my experience there the staff was very pleasent. Of course, I was delighted with all the vegan options. I ended up ordering maccu pichu (sp?) vegan style with tempeh on a gluten free wrap. It was absolutely delicious. I was pleased that they had a great beverage selection including my favorite brand coconut water, kombucha, Yerba mate, etc. I can't wait to go back there next time I visit Newport.

I will give Keenwah this: it *is* in a class by itself for health-food, grab-n-go style cafe in RI, far as I know. (ugh, but I don't even want to say the "keenwah" pun let alone write it...) I stopped in for a quick breakfast sandwich, tasty but wee and very expensive, even if this is the most sustainable egg sandwich one might hope to procure. I enjoyed having a look around the place while my order was readied; bright and gorgeous-looking prepared foods in a case, complementary condiment and spice options out the wazoo, and clean, open, airy layout. My favorite attribute: the comfiest, padded lawn furniture out front; did not want to get up. My least favorite attribute: the ketchup. Good God, I appreciate the idea of (just as wasteful, plastic) packets of Uncle Willie of Vermont's Tye-Dyed Sunbeams and Rainbow laced Organic Tomato-Massaged ketchup (or whatever), but, I'm sorry, it tastes like incense. I'm a Heinz girl. And as Malcolm Gladwell so perfectly shared with the world what we already "knew", Heinz uniquely, equally embraces each of the flavor experiences at one time: sweet, salty, bitter, sour and mysterious umami, making it the most universally superior, primally-attractive ketchup. Don't deny me my Heinz. OK, don't mean to make this a ketchup-centric review... it's just an emotional button for me. With or without this ketchup thing, Keenwah's solid but doesn't beg me to love it.

These jobys need to get their s*** together. We were a group of 7 and it took us 1hr to get the food. Not cool. The food was just ok when we finally got it. It took them even longer to get some toast and nut butters to the baby. Enough said. Good day!

The food was great and not as expensive as I thought it might be. Lots of choices for vegetarians. Service wasn't great but not nearly as bad as other people on here have reported. and, at least when I was there, I didn't see any hipsters.

I got the tempeh BBQ sandwich. It was so good. It was topped with pineapple and I added red onion. Yum!

Poorly made wrap. The greens with it had nothing on them. Rude staff. I asked for my wrap to be heated and got it cold. 4$ orange juice?

I ate here twice a week for ten weeks. The menu is wonderful and very diverse. The burritos, Macchu Picchu especially, are great, the breakfast options delicious, and the muffins and desserts excellent. I never tired of it up until I had to leave - healthy. A bit on the expensive side some of my friends complain, but the ingredients are quality and it's worth paying for if you ask me. Staff is friendly and very accommodating to anything you might want. Keenwah is a great Newport establishment.

I was so excited I got a chance to eat here, I have been trying to make it to breakfast for a few months now. Well, I got to go for lunch. At first, impressions weren't awesome. The person behind the counter wasn't very friendly or open with information to as the whole ordering at the counter and the food is brought out to your seat goes. And with the prices they are charging you would think they would be a little more open and friendly. My sister had already been there so I followed her lead. We both got the Veggie burger that came with sweet potato fries. WOW! It was awesome. The burger was Spicy, flavorful, and it really hit the spot. It consisted of brown rice, carrots, and black beans with a spicy sauce on top and served on a whole wheat bun. The sweet potato fries are sliced sweet potatoes with the skin left on and baked (you know the way that they are supposed to be made) and those were equally as good. We also got soup, I had the vegan minestrone and my sister had the chicken and rice. I loved, loved, loved that soup. It was so flavorful and filling. Great for the chilly day that it was. I also ordered a Keenwah cake to try, it too was very good. I can't wait to go back and try some more stuff on the menu.

My fiancee and I just tried Keenwah this afternoon for the first time and were very impressed with the range and selection of healthy ingredients. I had the breakfast burrito on a whole grain wrap with whole grain rice, eggs, beans, and kale and my fiancee had an egg muffin sandwich with spinach on a whole wheat English muffin; we both agreed that our selections were very tasty. I was particularly impressed with the side of diced sweet potato, which had a kind of citrusy flavor to it. Very nice. What we really liked about this place is the emphasis on the healthy and local ingredients. It was incredibly refreshing to see, considering most restaurants, even so-called "healthy" ones, seem to go at their supposed health food endeavors in a kind of half-cocked way with way too many compromises. Keenwah really seems to understand what healthy food actually means. Of course, you'll find quinoa here, but also kale, sweet potatoes, and whole grains among other healthy and tasty possibilities. The menu is quite creative as are the drink selections. I've never been at a restaurant/cafe that offered yerba mate along with a selection of stevia or agave for sweeteners. Very cool. If you're the kind of person who doesn't care about healthy eating that supports local farmers, then I say, sure, save some money and go get a burger at a nationwide chain with some nice, fatty french fries. It will definitely cost you less per calorie than eating here. But, on the other hand, if you DO care about healthy food, sourced locally, and which also tastes pretty darn good, I think you'll be impressed with Keenwah. I don't really understand the complaints about price that other people here have mentioned; unfortunately, due to the way our federal government subsidizes low nutrient, but high-calorie density food, it will always be cheaper to eat something made with white bread, sugar, fatty beef, and lots of canola oil. Organically, locally sourced food with a heavy emphasis on fruits and vegetables is not cheap, and it's disingenuous to complain about a local eatery's price, when the real issue is that healthy food costs a lot of money for everyone in this country. The cafe's ambience is pleasant and clean (including the bathroom) and the staff were friendly and prompt. I noticed what seemed to be a number of regulars come in when we were there, which always bodes well. My only complaint about Keenwah is their hours. Unfortunately, they don't seem to be open in the evening, which is a shame. This might be a seasonal thing as traffic does dry up in the off-season in Newport.

Favorite spot in Newport for breakfast and lunch! It's a breathe of fresh air to finally have a local eatery with organic food! The menu is diverse from chia seed breakfast bowls and egg sandwiches to fresh juices, salads and burgers. You'll be impressed with everything you order. There's also an outdoor seating area and the staff members are very helpful and friendly. Enjoy! :)

As someone who lives on Broadway and watched the flurry of activity that went on in the space that formerly was Bliss Cafe, I was so very happy when Keenwah finally opened at the end of summer. Let me first talk about the positives: 1) Their hours are great. They are open around 7:30am and close around 7:00pm. It's great to be able to walk down to Keenwah before driving off to work for a muffin and then stop by after work for a healthy dinner. 2) The food is great! They use locally grown organic ingredients. They have a deli case full of interesting cold salads and prepared meats, which varies by week. I really like their Thai inspired chicken cakes, the curry cauliflower salad, corn salad, and tofu triangles. They make fresh muffins every morning and each morning it's different. The muffins are often vegan, not too sweet, and have a nice crispy crust. They have a bakery case filled with interesting cupcakes, cookies, etc, that I have yet to try. 3) They also have a menu and although I rarely order from it, the food appears healthy but yummy. So, why don't I order from the menu more, you ask? Well, let me get to the negatives... 1) This place is EXPENSIVE for an essentially a glorified deli! I ordered a roasted veggie wrap once off the menu. It cost $8 (the cheapest meal on the menu), and did not come with any sides, chips or pickle. Yes, it was delicious, but I can order a really awesome and huge grinder from A-1 across the street for $6.00 that will last me two meals. The salads are affordable if you don't order too much. The cauliflower salad, as much as I love it, will only ever be a special treat. At $15.00 a pound, I can only afford a few spears. The only thing I ever get on a regular business are the muffins, which at $2.00 each is something I can afford once or twice a week. 2) The service can use some improvement. Being a cafe/restaurant in a pretty residential part of Broadway, I understand that they want to build community relations with their neighbors. However, the servers need to know when it is appropriate to spend 10 minutes chatting with a customer. If there is more than one person on line at the register, talking to a customer for 5 to 10 minutes is not a good idea. Twice, in the mornings around 8:00am, I've had to walk out of Keenwah because the server was just taking too long chatting it up with the guy before me. And look, I don't mean to be difficult, but when I have to get to work in the morning, I'd appreciate some efficiency! Overall, if you don't mind spending a bit more for organic healthy foods with interesting flavors and have the time to leisurely order your food, you'll probably like Keenwah. However, in my opinion, for Keenwah to be a 4 or 5 star cafe, they need to lower the prices and become more efficient in their service.

Hurrah! I'm a fan! Maybe it's all the hip condiments, and the fact that I can suck on honey straws while I wait for my tasty, creative meal, but... I love this place. From the pink salt, to the Blue Agave sweetener, gourmet ketchups and mustards, this place is just very neat and different. I like a place that challenges me to eat healthy and forces me to try something new. Today I got the Keenwah Salad and the indian-style quinoa patties were a big yum in my book. I've also never had goji berries sprinkled on a salad before and they were damn tasty! Also, they have wifi, and if you look around the corner they have prepared pastas and salads too that I missed when I first came. Soups and sandwiches are also on the menu. I'll be coming back again very, very soon.

when my family and I found this restaurant, we were thrilled. my daughter and I are vegan/gf and got excited about the thought of finding a place that would meet our needs. first, the menu was difficult to navigate. after asking the gentleman behind the counter a few questions, it was evident he was not really interested in helping. my husband and son ordered the offerings that were on special and they were out. I would have liked the gentleman to have guided us to some recommendations, but again he wasn't helpful. finally settled on our overpriced choices ( that came with no sides) and waited 25 min to have our sandwiches delivered. really? it takes that long? portions we small and taste was just " ok". nothing special.. I will admit, we are completely spoiled back home going to Dandelion Cafe in Orlando, Florida-- THEIR food, service, prices and quantity gets 5 stars every time I go.

Cute place. Came here when I was having strict dietary restrictions and had no problem finding something on the menu. I had the jerk turkey burger with no bun and it was amazing. The people are super nice. Loved it here!

Felt the food was bland and nothing creative. I'm glad this place is organic and sources local ingredients but the use of the ingredients fall short when it comes to the dishes. Hopefully this place improves.

Found this gem after passing so many lackluster tourist traps with no serious vegetarian options. I almost cried when I ate my BBQ tempeh burger, I was that happy. Also had a nice green smoothie. Healthy, flavorful, and just what this town needs.

I've only managed to happen upon this place actually being open once. Every other time I have walked or driven by, it is closed. How does a breakfast place not open until after you have to be at work? The one time I found it open, as I had called off from work, I had a lemon bar; it was fine, I guess, Hence the additional star.

  • Amanda M.

  • Chuck A.

    (1)
  • Jon A.

I came in for lunch yesterday for the first time and fell in love with the place! I tried the BBQ tempeh burger and it was one of the best burgers I've ever tasted and it wasn't even made of beef! The staff was super friendly and helpful and I'll definitively be coming back soon!

I Keenwah!

Have been twice and had two burgers. I will say by far that the Bison burger was amazing. I was in awe of it. I don't know how I will order anything else after how much I loved it.

Enjoy! :)

Yum!

Poorly made wrap. The greens with it had nothing on them. Rude staff. I asked for my wrap to be heated and got it cold. 4$ orange juice?

Hurrah!

Smoothies are way overpriced!!! The edamame wrap was good and the BBQ tempeh burger was just okay. I'd probably eat here again because it's one of the only health foods restaurants in the area but I'd have to be prepared to drop $18 and be left wishing for a bit more.

I can't wait to go back and try some more stuff on the menu.

when my family and I found this restaurant, we were thrilled. my daughter and I are vegan/gf and got excited about the thought of finding a place that would meet our needs. first, the menu was difficult to navigate. after asking the gentleman behind the counter a few questions, it was evident he was not really interested in helping. my husband and son ordered the offerings that were on special and they were out.
