The Npt Pirate Invasion crew had an great time at Buskers this past Saturday! Buskers is an awesome Irish bar right in the heart of the action in Newport and has a great staff that were really great sports when a bunch of rowdy buccaneers overtook the bar. They were quick with the drinks, the beer was fresh, and the bartenders were hilarious! The food here is great as well and this is actually a perfect spot to grab a bite in downtown Newport as well. I will definitely be back and hopefully the crew will be welcomed back next year!!

Worst Newport experience ever. The waitress was rude, high, and very forgetful. It took her 30 minutes to run our credit cards - definitely will be watching the activity on my card carefully in the next few weeks. Food was greasy and barely tolerable.

We needed to find something fast to eat, because we had been in the car all day. We ended up on Thames Street, and just picked the first place we could find that had parking close. Our waitress was a bit rough around the edges. Not very personable. Food was just ok, but overpriced. I got the cheese fries and they didn't taste like cheese fries but the oven they came out of.

Just drinks in this stop but service is a bit slow. Booze selection is very good! Menu looks good too. I'll be back to taste!

Forced to come here after husband refuse to wait for a table at midtown oyster bar. Food was acceptable, service was good. Cottage pie was good, but not London good, fish and chips were overly fried, and the clam chowder just not worth the calories. I had higher hopes for dinner.

This restaurant was so bad, it became a punchline for the rest of the trip. We had a long time to wait for hour food (around an hour and a half), so it gave us time about our choices. This places calls itself a gastropub, which should have been the first red flag. It should have been a tip that this place was overelaborate and precious, aimed at tourists gawking at mansions or those that inhabit them. Expensive and bland, this place. (A side note: Covering walls with irish beer memorabilia doesn't really pass as atmosphere, except for a signified one. It indicates a feeling, but one that's been reproduced so many times, it's ubiquitous and expected. Like, how major fast-food chains became popular by replicating the same experience whether you were on the East Coast or West. It's sort of interesting that irish pubs have done something similar, except with a centralized headquarters calling the shots. You walk into an irish pub and you know the Guinness sign is there before you see it, counting down to St. Patrick's Day (T-minus 300 days and counting). Also, it seems more an American bar than Irish - surely not every pub in Dublin has a Keno game and Patriots posters.) Besides the wait, the unremarkable food and the complete absense of anything resembling service, I got charged for the wrong meal - which is sort of impressive, considering the bill was wrapped around my card. Anyway, don't go here. We left with more questions than anything. Was this restaurant founded by people who busked? is that why they can't run a restaurant? What the heck is a gastropub?

Came to Newport over the weekend for a wedding. On Friday night, after an 8 hour drive, we just wanted to find a great restaurant for eats and drinks. Enter Buskers. I absolutely loved the atmosphere. We were seated right away and started glancing over the food and drink menu. I settled on the Cottage Pie and Celtic Lemonade. The Cottage Pie was out of this world. I'm a very picky eater but gladly chowed down on the entire thing without picking out the peas. That's how delicious it was. And the Lemonade was well worth the $8. I had 2 and was plenty drunk! All-in-all, I loved Buskers. I would definitely come back. In fact I loved it so much I tried to get everyone to go there Saturday night after the wedding!

My husband and I stopped in for a very late lunch, 4:30. We were so pleased that they let us order from the lunch specials menu. The crab cakes were excellent, full of crab with a very lightly fried crisp, not very much filler. It was served with tartar sauce and a wonderful chopped tomato salad/salsa, over some baby greens. On a side plate were 4 pieces of brown bread - an odd addition, but the pads of Kerrigold butter, made it all worth it! My husband had a burger which he said was cooker perfectly medium-rare and the fries were yummy. We had a strange beer that was a porter with seaweed. Sounds gross, but was actually pretty good. The place was pretty empty except for a few people watching the US open tennis match at the bar. But I guess it was an odd time. The waitress was attentive and friendly. Ask to sit in the window so you can watch the world go by on Thames St.

Great pub in Newport, highly recommended. Typical "Irish Pub" decor standard to every other irish pub you've been to, but a nice atmosphere with friendly and quick service, although it wasn't crowded on a weekend night. Great draught beer list for Irish beer fans, a variety of stouts, ciders and cream ales are available. The food is as good as it gets. Scotch eggs, outstanding burgers, etc. My wife had the bangers and mash. The sausages were greats, though the potatoes were a little dry, but that was about the only downside. Oh great bread and butter with every order...we probably would've skipped the appetizer had we known.

GET YOURSELF TO BUSKERS! I agonized over having the Scotch eggs $6 or the Brian Boru burger with a rasher and fried egg $13.99. As luck would have it, North Coast Brewing Company was doing a tap takeover and I wanted an Old Rasputin Russian Imperial Stout, so I opted for the burger. It was perfectly cooked (medium rare is only way to eat a burger friends, especially one freshly ground in house). The Dublin cheese and rasher and fried egg complemented the fresh flavors of the beef. The bun was toasted just to my liking. My fries were double fried and quite crispy- not a bit of grease! And my beer? Wow- what a pairing! The service was stellar. My guy was knowledgeable about beer and pairings, and you may find this trivial but it matters much to me-- my beer was served at the proper temp in the proper glass. In a side note, all the diners in my area seemed equally pleased. A table of delightful travelers sat nearby and waxed eloquent about their meal- all of them sampling each other's plates. Heck, I may come back to Newport just to dine here again. And when I do, I shall try the Scotch eggs!

Stumbled in here after finding a 2 hour wait at Brick Alley. Safe to say it is NOTHING close to Brick Alley. The food was dry, cold and not to mention took an hour to get to us. Best part is the service---unbelievable. The WORST service I have had in Newport by far. Regret not waiting the two hours for Brick Alley. Would give negative stars if possible.

Very good Irish pub. Food was great. The potato skins are a good buy. Lots of potato and they have both corned beef and bacon in them. Prices are very reasonable, too.

I have seen Buskers many times but have never made my way in until last night. At 8pm on a Thursday most bar seats were full but only one or two tables had people at them. The Smithwicks was very fresh and went down easy. They have a HUGE whiskey / scotch selection and the bartender was familiar with anything I asked about and even had advice to steer me in the right direction for my tastes. I ordered the Reuben as a 'safe' option. It was very affordable at around $9 and it came with homemade chips. these weren't your typical kettle fried chips that get soggy if you don't eat them quick enough, these were 'ruffle' cut thinnish chips perfectly fried and salted. it was a great side to the sammich. The Reuben itself came and I was pleasantly surprised to see a 1" thick cut of meat, not a pile of sliced beef. The sauerkraut was present but not overwhelming (which I hate). The dressing and cheese were the same way which provided a great balance of flavors. I think the cut of the meat also helped keep the saltiness down. It was a nice experience and I hope to go back sometime soon.

Me and two coworkers went here today around 11:30am for lunch. There were about 8 other people in there with us. We stood there for about 10 minutes until someone told us where to sit (most of the tables were empty). It took about 15 minutes for her to ask us about drinks, one of them was wrong (he asked for a coke and got a seltzer). A few minutes later she took our orders and they took about 30 minutes to come out. She never came over in between, she just disappeared. We asked one of the male servers there for some water and he slammed it on the table and walked away. The food was average, not worth the $12-$15 each. Summary - rude workers, sub-par food.

This place was great! Our waiter was nice, had a smile and good humor... a little slow on getting to our table when needed but over all it was nice. The food was super good and I'm glad to have experienced Irish food. I will recommend this place to anyone traveling through! YUMM

Only one visit, but definitely deserving of four stars. Superb wait staff who gave expert advice - in a fun, friendly way. We enjoyed our meals: meatloaf burger, Reuben, beef stew.....blown away by the dessert. Buskers takes the effort and time to make most things in house!

Really great find in downtown Newport. Corned beef & cabbage dinner is excellent. Wait staff friendly & helpful. Atmosphere typical Irish pub. Prices are reasonable. Will return quickly.

This upscale Irish bar is about what you would expect - Irish beer and whiskey, and Irish pub food. My friend and I stopped by on a Saturday night, and had a pleasant experience. The service was excellent, and the food was decent, not extraordinary. I would stop by here for a comfortable meal. There was music downstairs and the bar area looked fun and crowded, but we went there to watch a basketball game, so we went upstairs, which had some sweet window views of Thames St.

A friend and I shared the Vegetarian Curry and Mac & Cheese. Food was mediocre. I found the curry sauce to be very watered down. I've had it before as more of a gravy type sauce and I really enjoyed it thicker. Service was excellent! Our waitress was super sweet and accommodating.

Buskers has consistently good service, beers on tap, and cocktails. The food menu is great and has lots of choices, but unfortunately after a few visits I have determined that the quality of the food is really hit or miss. The first time I ordered the Cranberry Chicken and Brie "toastie" I was very impressed - a lovely flavor combination with freshly sliced apples for some crunch. However ever since that first order, it has been very disappointing. The Boyfriend has had the mac & cheese and has been pleased each time. The home made mozzarella sticks are pretty yummy. Lots of pub classics on the menu. The bar offers full menu service. Lots of beers on tap, as well as a great selection of whisky and other spirits. Service was great.. the bartender was really on top of things. The atmosphere is very much like an English or Irish pub. Tables, booths, High tops, and a long bar offer up plenty of seating. Prices are average for Thames Street in Newport. There is only street parking here which is very limited. You will need to park in a paid lot or plan to walk. One of the few places on Thames St. I plan to come to more often.

Came back and actually had a whole meal here this time, so I can write a more helpful review :-) Went in on a busy Saturday night in summer with a group of 6, but we only had to wait about 10 minutes for a table. Everyone liked their food - from burgers to sandwiches to salads and appetizers - no major complaints. Cocktails were good and of course they have a great draft beer selection. Fun, lively atmosphere. While waiting for our table we sat in the upstairs bar for a few minutes, and it's lovely - there are nice windows looking out onto Thames Street, so it's a bit brighter than the restaurant & bar on the ground floor. Only minor issue was that the service was a bit slow (a few times members of our group waited 20 minutes for drinks, etc.), but that wasn't too big of an issue. Overall, a nice place for a beer and affordable pub food in Newport!

It looks the part, acted the part but just didn't taste great. The atmosphere is good. There was a guy playing music and he was good. I ordered a pulled pork sandwich. The fries were bland and flavorless. The pulled pork was good. We also were served bread which had a very interesting consistency, however it was flavorless. Our waitress was nice and the food came out quick. I just wasn't impressed.

The prior reviews makes one onset if they were written by the wait staff. I have eaten here three times now. I am not sure that I would call this a good gastropub. It is a great place to socialize over a beer ( cocktails are not good) with friends or to watch a game. I ordered the onion soup which was VERY salty. I sent it back this last time and the manger agreed it was too salty. So I orders the vegetarian curry which mediocre at best. I will say that the wings are very good. So, if you are looking for a good gastropub meal, this is not the place. If you are looking for a place to have beer and wings with friends while watching a game, this is an excellent place.

If you go to eat here you must get all your value for your money, get some Irish cuisine that they are known for. They did all of our "Irish" dishes much better than lets say just a regular menu item like a burger. Highly recommend the place, portions are great too!

My boyfriend and I went to Newport for the weekend and stopped at Buskers because it had good reviews on Trip Advisor. It was absolutely amazing! I had the Ruben and he had the duck burger which was just added to the menu. My boyfriend wouldn't stop talking about the duck burger the whole weekend! It had a plum sauce on it that was divine. The Ruben had homemade cornbeef which made the whole sandwich. Our server Nick was awesome. He stopped to talk to us, was always attentative, and reccommended awesome things to do while we were there, if we had the time. I would definitely go back the next time in Newport and reccommended it to anyone.

Had lunch before leaving on a weekend trip and was satisfied. I had a burger and fries that was actually very delicious and my girlfriend had irish onion soup with a salad. We were only the only people in the place around 11am on a Sunday but the food took a long time to come out. Many irish styles options and would recommend it to anyone for lunch.

This is a very nice Irish restaurant. Do not hesitate to patronize them. The statff is efficient and friendly. i can only comment on the Corned beef and cabbage. It was HUGE and delicious. It was a bit pricey but show meany restaurant in the Newport area that is NOT pricey. We would for sure return agasin.

If Buskers is a gastropub, then call me Britney Spears. My boyfriend and I were starving our last night of our New England road trip. We walked around and noticed a bar dubbed a "gastropub". We decided to give it a shot. We examined the menu and nothing struck us as particularly interesting or unique. We then asked the waitress what made this place a "gastropub". She was not sure (she said she was new, so I'll let that slide). She came back after asking the manager and insisted Buskers was a "gastropub" because it is a pub that serves high quality food. Ok... I ordered the Mac and Cheese. Kraft makes better mac and cheese. No flavor whatsoever. It was edible. That's the only reason I am giving them more than 1 star. I was starving though, so I may not have even ate it had I not been hungry. My boyfriend ordered a Reuben sandwich which was also subpar. Buskers-calling yourself a "gastropub" is pushing it.

Best Creamy Clam Chowder in New Port. Great selection of Ciders and have the Irish Bread with butter. Good music. Just a great place to and relax

A typical Irish pub with a great beer selection. The food on the other hand is not so good. I ordered the bangers and mash. It was awful. The bangers tasted like hot dogs and the "Irish" baked beans were run of the mill Van Camps canned baked beans. Very disappointing.

We had an absolutely awesome time at Buskers and our waitress Reade made it special. Her suggestions were very helpful and her personality was warm and friendly, which made our whole experience welcoming. A perfect spot for yummy pub food and tasty beers. We could do with fewer TVs blasting sports games, but that could be said for just about every bar anywhere. You won't go wrong at Buskers!

everthing we ordered was terrible...4 different dishes. Chowder tasted old and a little sour. Cole slaw the same. Wife now actively sick and i am feeling queezy. Inattentive waitress coukdnt be bothered with us. Very nice greeter though.

Delicious!! The only crappy part was the fact that the host had no idea what he was doing. We were waiting in the small lobby with 8 other people waiting to be seated. Two girls walked past us asking if we were seated, then walked right into the dining room and were seated. Eventually, the host came and took everyone's name. We took a seat at the bar, had a beer, and we were shortly escorted upstairs to be seated. We started off with the potato skins, which had corned beef in them instead of the traditional bacon. I ate the pulled pork sandwich and my fiancee had the ruben. Both were outstanding, and his corned beef was SO tender when I tried it. The decor is all "pub like" and Irish. The service we received, (besides the service at the front door) was impeccable. We had a few too many beers, and she was kind enough to let us know we over paid. For that, we gave her a way bigger tip than normal...it may have also been the beer letting my generosity out ;) I would have easily given this place 5 stars if it was not for the wait to even have our names taken at the door.

Great place, great service!! As a huge fan of Guinness and Irish Breakfast, this is the place to go! I loved their fusion beer menu where you can try Guinness with Bass, Harp, Smithwick's, New Castle and more! I've had the beef stew and chicken curry besides the Irish breakfast. I'll definitely return once or twice a week!!

  • Jimi F.

This place absolutely sucks. Worse lunch I've ever had. Their "best" seller, the Ruben, had soft bread, dry thick corned beef, and dry tasteless sauce. The portobello salad was drenched in balsamic vinegar so much that I had to spit it out. Worse lunch I've ever had and would had totally told the waitress who never asked how it was... Because she knows it's sucks.

First time at Buskers. It was a really nice surprise. We were just looking for a place to grab a casual bite and took a look in the windows and liked the look of the place. Beamed ceilings, booths and a comfortable bar. The service was prompt and friendly. The menu has traditional Irish pub fair, everything from Corned Beef and Cabbage, Sheppard's Pie made with lamb, burgers, and a lengthy appetizer menu. We grabbed some apps, nachos were better than average, topped with their chili which has corned beef in it. It worked. The potato skins were also a hit. Buskers has music some nights and has a karaoke menu on the tables for those with good voices or just enough of a buzz to think they do. Cant wait to go back.

Been here before and loved the comforting Bangers and Mash, so came back for more. After the rush of the lunch crowd, we were seated at 2:45 and served our food at 3:30- no joke and some lame apology about my daughters pasta taking some time. Food was just okay, not what I remember from last time. Kids pasta, hamburgers and a fish and chip in addition to my usual which rather than homemade beans and gravy tasted like Heinz beans and gravy. All got sodas and the bill was $78 which I think is a lot. Not too sure I'll return. Definitely disappointed.

Extensive whiskey collection and knowledgable staff. Impressive catalog of regional and rare whiskey with generous tastings. While there we learned a bit about the differing regions (peat moss influence in each) of Ireland and had a chance to taste a few rare whiskeys. Overall a fun way to spend a Sunday. Bar crowd was friendly and appetizers tasty, making for a joyous environment and entertaining visit. Will certainly return.

Being restaurant week I'd like to think restaurants would pick some of their tastier items for the selection, or possibly something new. Don't think that was the case here. Butternut squash and apple bisque was very good. Sticky beef sticks were a very small portion but very good. Lamb shank was a little dry and had a sauce on it that was over flavor for the dish (maybe trying to cover the dryness). The root vegetables and mashed potatoes with the shank were good. Sole dish was nicely flavored but the couscous was off (larger size than I've ever seen). The Irish Whiskey sundae was a good combination of flavors.

As tourists over the Christmas holiday, we stumbled upon Buskers for lunch. It was early, and there was really no one else in the place yet. I'm going to start out the review with a complaint - only because when we walked in the door, we were hit with the smell of cleaning solutions. I know that popular night spots have to perform some heavy cleaning for the next day's customers, but maybe that should be done well before the lunch crowd starts rolling in the next day. This is truly a pub, with dark wood, kitschy décor and a little bit of sticky on the tables. Our server was attentive and friendly. She brought my ice tea and hubby's Smithwicks right away. We started with an order of cheese toasties, which were rounds of good bread topped with mustard and melted cheese. Some call it rarebit. We loved it and could have made a meal out a few orders! Beloved ordered a rueben, which is not like a NY Rueben. Instead of shaved corned beef, this sandwich held a thick piece of beef. It was a hearty piece, and the sandwich was declared good, but we both prefer the thinner slices. I had the McDonnell's beef stew, which was delicious. For under $10, it was a generous bowl filled with small cubes of good beef, carrots, potatoes, peas, onions, settled into a perfect gravy. I loved it. For the table was Irish soda bread and Kerrygold butter. YUM. We checked back in at Buskers for a late night cosmo and a couple of bags of Tayto crisps. Yes, we'll be back!

We stopped in for lunch yesterday. Typical dark pub style place. My husband & I don't drink but enjoy a good pub. My ice tea was good but my husband's soda was not. Sprite & Coke both tasted funny & we're sent back. He went with water in the end. Food was good: I had fish sliders & he had the burger. Fries & onion rings very good & crispy. Table looked clean but everything stuck to it. Not sure why. Bathrooms were clean. Server was friendly & attentive. We enjoyed the food. Won't rush back but won't not go back either.

Found Buskers after fleeing from the typical overcrowded Sunday Brunch restaurants yesterday morning. I was really surprised by the atmosphere of the inside....windows were open, it was nice and bright, and the staff extremely friendly. Their menu has a pretty good mix of items, and are reasonably priced. Everything ordered was really good, especially the onion rings! A nice light batter, crisp, hot....not like most places who's batter seems to resemble wall paper paste. Definitely would return next time in Newport!

First time I've been and wait staff was awesome for lunch on New Year's Eve. Seated immediately, a little chilly so I kept my coat on the whole time. It's a pub through and through, definitely cozy. I had the ham and cheese panini and my boyfriend had a lamb burger - both very very good. Parking is a pain so we paid 6 bucks for public parking... Wamp. Can't blame them tho I suppose. I would recommend for a drink or lunch - not sure about dinner. Enjoy!

Buskers is an amazing East Coast food experience. Firstly, the atmosphere is incredible inside. It feels so comfortable being in there and being able to look out onto the Newport streets while you eat is even better. I came in randomly for lunch and couldn't have been happier with my decision. I sat down and was immediately brought water. I showed her my ID and ordered a Harpoon IPA to start. They have an extensive draught/bottled beer collection, alongside some signature Buskers cocktails and wine. When my waitress came back, I decided to order a stuffed Quahog because I'd never had one before. Since I was by the ocean, I thought it was appropriate. The Quahog was delicious. It was stuffed with some of the best ingredients on earth. For my entree, I ordered the Guinness battered shrimp, which consisted of large Guinness battered shrimp, crispy hand-cut seasoned fries, and a corn salad that was a great addition. My meal came with house cocktail sauce and lemon. I was in seafood heaven. The meal was extremely large and I barely finished the whole meal. I washed it all down with another IPA and was fat and happy afterwards. I immediately needed a walk afterwards to keep myself from going into a food coma. Luckily, I was in beautiful downtown Newport and was able to remedy my situation. If you get the chance, and there's room inside and in your stomach, I'd 100% recommend eating at Buskers. You won't be disappointed!

Went in to the bar just looking for a place to watch a basketball game. Wasn't expecting such amazing food and service. Despite the fact that we were clearly surrounded by regulars, we got top notch service, and recommendations for their beer. We had two appetizers, the chicken fingers and crab cakes, both were exceptional, and much more than we were expecting from a pub setting. Definitely looking forward to returning next time we're in town!!

A fun Irish pub in Newport, Rhode Island. The food is good (I had the Reuben sandwich and some fried calamari) and the atmosphere is friendly. My wife had the baked mac and cheese and really enjoyed it (I ate the leftovers and it was super tasty). The prices are fair for Newport and since it was winter, it wasn't too crowded either. If I'm ever in the area again, I'd definitely stop in again.

We came in here for lunch in late December, hoping to get out of the cold, only to find that it was really cold inside! I had the clam chowder. It was good, but nothing special. My wife had the chili and a fig spinach salad. The salad was tasty, if you like figs. The chili had corned beef in it, which is an interesting idea, but didn't seem to add much corned beef flavor. The service was a little on the slow side.

Went here on a whim last week for lunch with the fam, and boy was I happy we did! We ordered a large range of foods from the menu: I stayed loyal to the brunch Irish-ish fare and got eggs benedict with "irish bacon". My family got a slew of items from the menu, a cheeseburger (rated excellent all around), pulled pork sandwich (also rated very good), and a grilled vegetable panini (very very well liked!). Also a Boddington beer. Overall: great place to go, homey, warm, feels like a real pub straight from Ireland. Menu has a variety of foods, even some for vegetarians! Brunch menu is great and has more traditional-style foods. Loved it.

The best thing about Buskers is its warm, inviting, and Irish atmosphere! Buskers was the last stop on a rainy, long night walking through downtown Newport. What a gem this was. Small group of us waddled in from the rain and were promptly greeted and served at the dark wooden bar. Great place for a simple night of beers and conversation. The curved bar is ideal for talking in groups, raising your glasses, and having an enjoyable time. A large variety of beers to choose from. . . Guinness, Bass, Smithwicks, Newcastle, Smuttynose, the list goes on and on and on. Music is at a decent level, not overpowering. The bartenders are attentive but not pushy or invasive. Perfect place to relax and and kick back with friends. Shake those umbrellas out and venture into Buskers for some well-deserved and enjoyed shelter. Love the little trinkets and objects they have lining the walls. In particular, the Yoda figurine that was watching me the whole time I drank at the bar. "Fear is the path to the dark side. Fear leads to anger. Anger leads to hate. Hate leads to suffering."

Sadly we were only in Newport for one night, and came by Buskers on the way out of town as I'd read about the bloodies being good...totally wished we'd come by the day before! Good (and spicy!) bloody, and super cute, but casual, ambiance - as its irish, it had great character! My boyfriend wasn't too wild about his grilled fish wrap fish, but the waitress was super sweet, bloody was good, and I'd definitely recommend it for a low key drink or meal.

Buskers is good craic! Visited twice during our stay in Newport. Traditional Irish themed menu and friendly service. Unoriginal I know, had the bangers and mash and fish and chips. Everything was tasty and well prepared. They carry Walker's crisps and "Tayto" snacks at the bar to add to the authentic Irish feel of the place.

A decent Irish pub for those venturing around Thames Street in Newport. I was very disappointed with the service and it seemed like we were pressured to order food or drinks every time the waiter swung by. The food and beer selection was decent. I'm not too sure I'll come back to Buskers when I'm in Newport, but needless to say there's much work that can be done with the service.

Valentine's Day was a hit! I guess that we were the only weirdo's that do Irish on Valentine's Day?? We stumbled across this nook just walking one day in Newport. Food is terrific, and very authentic. The hubby's the beer guy, and they have lot's of it... and it's walking distance for the Hotel's which was great. If you get a chance look around you in the bar, there are so many doodads, thingamabob's, bar themed memorabilia and antiques.

I had the best fish sandwich with fries. My husband and brother-in-law had Reuben sandwiches which had thick slices of corned beef and were delish! My sister-in-law had seafood sliders which she said were good, nothing special. The fish and Reuben definitely were amazing. We will go back again.

Found this place by accident while looking for a place to eat late In the evening and so glad we did. Although it was 5 mins until the kitchen closed at 10:00 the waitress Reneda was very welcoming, friendly and attentive. Everything we ordered was delicious but the lamb burger was to die for. The presentation of the food was outstanding - very appealing and the pricing was excellent. Would definitely recommend this place and we will be back the next time we're in town. Great service and excellent food. What more could you ask for.

Absolute favorite bar in newport. NEver had a bad night when going to Buskers. The food in good and the drinks are better. ALways got car bombs and LA waters and look forward to going back to have them just the way they make them. The ceilings are low and the place can get loud but its part of what makes it such a great drinking hole. The music on friday and saturday nights is the best live music in the area and you will not be dissapointed. Highly recomend getting there a little early to get a seat after the dinner crowd. Or go for dinner and stay for drinks. I have nothing bad to say about this place except that its to far away now.

Stopped here for lunch and a beer. Great service and the clam chowder was made how I like it - creamy, nice amount of clam, and good amount of diced potato as well! Also enjoyed their Busker's fries with cheese (so unhealthy but really tasty).

Oh Busker's where have you gone? We have been to Busker's before and really enjoyed it, this most recent time was just meh. Slow service and cold food at a premium. I'm hoping we just hit an off day. We will try it again and update our review at that time.

Three stars, but nearer to four than to two. We visited for lunch and had a restaurant week menu, that I fear they produced under duress. It was OK bar food, good soup but mediocre veg free entrees. A reasonable selection of beer and one cask selection. My cask pint was bottom of the barrel and the waitress quickly replaced it with an alternative without a moments hesitation. Quite possibly better as a drinking venue than an eating venue, which (as a pub) it should be.

Do not be fooled: This place falsely bills itself as a gastropub. It's fine as a bar, but the food was awful. I had lobster bisque that tasted... orange, and had little clotted beads of flour and some flavorless rubbery "lobster" bits at the bottom. I ordered the fig and goat cheese salad off the specials--big mistake. I rarely send stuff back but I thought WWGRD (what would Gordon Ramsay do?). The lettuce was rotten the way it gets when it's in the bag too long and doesn't get rinsed and all the rotting black bits are stuck to the other healthier pieces of mixed greens. The figs and cheese were fine, but I was too grossed out by the lettuce. It was served with slabs of OK Irish soda bread and Kerrygold Irish butter, which was nice. But when they redid my salad, they didnt even dress the plate with the bread the second time. And they used the same or equally bad, unwashed lettuce. I think they were premade and they just get pulled from the fridge bc my order was up far too quickly. The waitress was nice about it and took the salad off my bill, but what the hell is going on in that kitchen? Yuck.

Spent a weekend in Newport with my GF. Had a blast, and this place was definitely the better of the local bars. Very warm and inviting. The locals were also very nice too. The bartenders were very attentive, and they pour a good Guinness. The night ended nicely with an acoustic guitarist who welcomed the crowds drunken pleas to play "their" song. I may have been guilty of this. I didnt get to eat here, but I can't imaging it would be nothing less than what you would expect from an Irish pub.

Great atmosphere - not too loud. Typical Irish pub decor, which I always enjoy. Very casual and chill and great draft beer choices. I also had the best stuffed quahog (it is spicy!) I've ever had.

My boyfriend and I have been to Buskers before and have enjoyed it. But, we went a week ago, and had a not-so-great experience. First off, the waitress wasnt friend at all. The service was super slow. The food didnt look appealing when it was served, it looked slopped together. Also, what really bothers me, is I got charged $.50 for a side of bbq sauce for my sandwich. REALLY!? I have for sure gotten it there before and never had that happen. I was really taken back by that. Yes, it is just 50 cents, but seriously, consistency is key and that was really lacking this visit.

Let me be up front, I am a big fan of any place that has Cask Ale! We visited this past weekend on a few days in Newport and they had a fantastic local Pale Ale on the beer engine. What a refresher. I have to be clear; we did not eat, so I cannot comment on the food. What I can say is they had Irish Breakfast (with rashers and the proper puddings) on the menu, which I always enjoy along with that of Ireland's neighbors. My wife commented that they menu was scary big, which prompts the comment, "Stick to what you do well!" They had some great selections on the menu from that part of the world, that said don't go to an Irish pub for nachos. The interior and exterior feel was right on, and the bartender was very good as well as knowledgeable.

Great beers, nice bartender. I would only recommend ordering a burger here if you are hungry. I had potato skins that were not just skins and had too much potato left inside - thus not crisp, with dried out cheese. They were supposed to be filled with corned beef. I detected 1-2 little tasteless pieces in each skin. No scallions or seasoning to add flavor. I WILL say that if you are not a picky eater and just like quantity - this was a huge portion for an app at $7.99. Filling. Mu suggestion is to come here for your beer with atmosphere, but eat elsewhere.

My fiance and I have frequented the Newport area for the past 4 years and have been to this establishment three times. The food here is typical bar/pub grub and there's a great selection of beer on tap. The food here has been consistent and shouldn't turn anyone away. If you're out having a good time with a group of friends I'm sure Buskers won't disappoint. With that being said, we just had an issue with the service just a day ago. Our server was not friendly and became even less friendly when we just ordered onion rings and a salad. I'm sorry, but it's Newport and there's more to see than just one place so we ate light. Also after we received our orders, she was nowhere to be found until she delivered the bill. Even though the atmosphere and food are appealing, our server unfortunately, has turned us off from making a return anytime soon.

Clean but the service was unobservant and slow with refills. The calamari was overcooked, the potato skins delicious. My daughter ordered the beef stew and it was below expectations. She then ordered the beef tips and mashed, the last few tips were raw. As for my Irish mix, I wish I ordered the corned beef and cabbage. The highlight and giggles were from the Wild Orchard Pear beer...if you ever wonder what the taste from the smell of wild flowers is like...this is it. Flowers in a beer!

We headed to this Irish pub last minute and it was the wrong choice. The place wasn't busy for a Saturday afternoon as we easily got a table for 4 and the waitstaff wasn't very timely. Food is nothing to rave about. I hadn't had a bowl of clam chowder my entire trip in Boston so I decided that I should have some now. the soup was warm but it wasn't smooth looking. It made me think it was sitting there for quite some time and I was the fool who ordered it. There were tons of potatoes and hardly any clams. Ordered nachos as an appetizer - not too bad but the chips were so thin that they got soggy right away from all the toppings piled onto it. I decided to try the Rhode Island stuffies since it sounded interesting - stuffed clams - here's my chance to have clams! Another disappointment ... it was mostly the stuffing I could taste. Crabcakes would have been better to eat. I wouldn't recommend this place for out of towners to eat ... there's other choices nearby that I would wished we went to.

My GF and I went here after dinner and its a nice place to sit down, have a beer and chat. What made it good it was not loud. We were greeted by the bartender who told me what good places to visit while in Newport. While having a few drinks we ordered the "Moy" which took quite a bit for the order to come but when it did we sure did enjoy putting our small sandwich together. They do have 2 TVs which was showing one of the New England teams at that time was the Boston Celtics. I am sure during spring this place will get packed with Red Socks fans. If I were to visit Newport again I would be definitely be coming back for some more "Moy"

My husband and I grabbed a quick lunch here during our trip to Newport, and it was pretty good. The fish and chips were plentiful and cooked perfectly. They also have an extensive beer list - I ordered a blueberry beer from a local RI brewery - Newport Storm. My only real complaint about Buskers was the smell - it smelled dank and like stale cigarettes. Not sure why it smelled that way since it's a non-smoking restaurant, but in any event, it was a turnoff.

My wife and I went here for lunch during restaurant week. I do not know what authentic Irish food is but if this is it... gonna have to move to Ireland. The white bean soup is amazing and the hardboiled eggs wrapped in sausage and then fried are a uniquely tasty treat. If you order a few appetizers as your meal, you can't go wrong.

Cute place. Loved my Irish lamb stew, my friend loved his pulled pork. The waitress was friendly, helpful and attentive, and prices were very reasonable. And the bathroom was clean (how sadly rare that is!). I couldn't ask for a better evening.

froze our buns off waiting to get in but wound up spending a fantastic st. patty's day here. it's a wonder i forgot to get our server's name but shout out to her regardless! must've been having a great time, eh? :) AND i was a little distracted by the game. ordered a cheeseburger and cheese fries. OH. MY. GOD. if i could tell you how long it's been since i had a proper rare burger. i swallowed that thing whole. (yup, she said that.) skimpy shot of macallan 12 was 12. a little pricey i thought but all in all had a fantastic time. great experience, fantastic food, fun atmosphere, will DEFINITELY be back!!!!

Awesome local bar serving lots of beers on-tap! We stopped in here after walking the entire Mansion tour. We didn't eat, so we can't comment on the food, but the atmosphere and beer were awesome! Great little local pub if you're tired of the touristy bars!

I used to really like Buskers. I love making the trip down to Newport just for a world-class lamb burger topped with mint sauce. Unfortunately I am quite soured on the place after they served me a raw burger. I'm not talking about a rare burger. I'm talking about a seared outside with lukewarm, mushy, raw meat on the inside. I hate to send food back but it was unavoidable. I alerted our waitress. Under the polite facade, it seemed like she was slightly bothered that I was bringing this up. Honestly I would never do that if it was anything other than a safety issue. The meat was mushy and almost cold. She promptly took it away but did not offer any reason as to how that could have happened and did not offer me a new burger. I was mildly upset because I came craving some wonderful, juicy lamb. It was probably for the best though; from the way she handled it, it seemed like it might have been a recurrent problem. In the end, I ordered the crab cakes. They also came out a little on the wet and mushy side but not as egregiously so as the raw meat. I have eaten great food here before but I can't deal with that kind of inconsistency so I doubt I'll be going back any time soon. As a side note, no manager came to our table to talk about what happened. We were offered no real explanation and weren't even certain that the dish was getting comped until we received the bill. It was a little surprising considering the many fantastic experiences I'd had here in the past.

The food here was surprisingly good! I had a salad special that was spinach with fresh strawberries, sunflower seeds and goat cheese with a balsamic glaze. I don't like goat cheese so I switched to fresh mozzarella. It was delicious and light. My mom had the Reuben with mashed potatoes and loved it. My dad and sister in law had the seafood sliders and said they were fantastic and my brother had the buskers sliders and thought they were very good also. The service was good, as was the beer.

Three stars as a place to eat, but four as a place to drink. Wide variety on tap, including hard cider. Dinner was ok. I got the fish and chips. The fish was a smallish portion swimming in grease (though still really crunchy) and the fries had to be sent back. The second set of fries were cooked well, but wouldn't encourage me to get them again.

Fun, Irish Pub atmosphere... food was pretty good and the bar has a huge selection of beers. Staff was very friendly. No wait time for a table. Irish fries were great... just how I like them, fresh cut potatoes w/ gravy. Lobster Roll was perfectly prepared w/ generous portions of lobster. The Fish & Chips were cooked to perfection (by perfection I mean not swimming in oil) and the Corned Beef... WOW. Thick, juicy, tender slices. Just the way I like it..!!

I guess we just went at a bad time....very crowded, very noisy, slow waitress due to the crowd. Windows were open and it was very cold, people smoking outside stunk up our table. Just stopped in for drinks and appetizers. Had a yummy pumpkin martini and a so-so stuffed quahog. Would try here again.

I'm a fan of this spot in the heart of Newport. It can be a bit dark - but its comforting and the bar has a fabulous beer selection. The owner is one of the best bartenders out there - he knows you want another pint before you do and is always ready to assist when you have a problem (namely - the lack of a full glass.) The food is decent pub grub. Last time I ate there I noticed some welcome additions - had a spicy fish sandwich wrap that was exactly what I was looking for at the moment. Slip out of the chaos of Thames Street and grab a pint - you'll enjoy - especially if Thomas is behind the bar.

Awesome Clam Chowder. Irish type pub fare. Very authentic let me tell you, they brought me some irish bread with kerry gold butter. I dated an Irish guy who made this same bread. Dark brown grainy heavy earthy amazing bread. That alone gets 4 stars. Beers, ciders, all good. Had mussels & clams. Very fresh. Also had fish & chips. Again very impressive! There are alot of good places to eat in Newport, and Buskers is on my list to return to. Be hungry!

Glad we found this Irish Pub while looking for Pub food while visiting Newport. Their homemade cheese sticks were some of the best I have had. Burgers were excellent. We were there when live Irish singer was there. A relaxing dinner for all. Wish this place was in NY.

We stopped by a Buskers for an appetizer and a drink and ended up staying for dinner. The atmosphere is classic New England Irish bar, with blarney sayings on the wall and TVs showing Red Sox games in every direction. What surprised us was the quality of the food. We expected bar fare but found a very rich menu ranging from sandwiches to lobster. The seafood pie was tender and fantastic. The mushroom ravioli was served in a delicious sauce. We ate till we were full and the bill, at $80 for two dinners with five drinks, was quite reasonable under the circumstances.

My wife and I were out doing some errands and out of the blue decided to take a ride. We followed a storm down to Newport (we are weather nerds). Stopped on Ocean ave and watched the storm come in and the waves for a while. Took some pics and got back in the car because we were chilled. Looked at the clock and decided to get dinner somewhere in town. Went to the downtown area and decided to come here and get out of the rain and cold. We were seated right away and our drink orders taken as soon as we sat. We looked at the menu and the waitress came and took our order. My wife had the fish and chips and I had the lamb stew (now my mouth is watering just thinking of the stew) The waitress very friendly and very good. We got our food in a timely manner and we dug in. My wife's fish and chips were amazing. Huge portion of beer battered goodness served on the "newsprint" wax paper very reminiscent of the old school way of serving it. She says it is her favorite fish and chips to date. My lamb stew was amazing, thick, hearty, stick to the bones goodness. A great stew for a cold stormy day. The price was very good for our experience. We will definitely be going back soon I hope

My favorite Newport bar! Its an authentic Irish place, including the bartenders and waitresses. Wide selection of draft beers. The food's good for a pub. I recommend the Shepherd's Pie or the fish and chips. The fish is buttery, flaky and delicious.

Another place I wish I could give two and a half stars. However, keep in mind that we didn't go there for drinks or for nighttime entertainment which is clearly what this place is designed to serve. We were tourists, the first customers of the day, coming for an early quick lunch. The service was fine, the ambiance was just what you would expect for an "Irish pub." The table was sticky and littered with dried bits of paper napkin though (a personal turnoff). I also have to knock restaurants down a half-star if they serve agrifood fries rather than something handmade from real potatoes (an Irish pub doesn't cook spuds from scratch? Really?) However, if you're looking for a $10 lunch in Newport and you don't want chain food a la Starbucks or Subway, I would hit the Gas Lamp Grille instead. Otherwise I'm sure Buskers is fine for a genuine afterdark pub crawl, which is just what the other higher-marked reviews about it will confirm.

We had a party of eleven. The service was great and so were the meals. Everyone enjoyed it. Excellent beer choices on tap, most from Eire. It was the most pleasant dinning experience we had in Newport and we dined out a lot.

The down side was the food. The upside included the charming atmosphere and our accommodating waitress! Five of us went to eat after a long day at a meeting, and she happily gave us separate checks. She was also very attentive. And the shoestring fries were fabulous and oh, so tasty! Back to the down side...I ordered the buffalo chicken sandwich. The chicken breast was most definitely dry and the buffalo sauce was lacking in any reminiscence of heat. A colleague ordered the fish and chips. The fish was undercooked and inside this thick crust of a batter. The batter had the taste of...grease. Ick! The garden burger was reported as being dry as well. The mussels were so-so. As for the lobster roll, she never said one thing either way. I know the joke that Irish pubs aren't known for their food....but really, how can one have a restaurant business and poor food?! I don't get it - but there really are only a few Irish pubs that rise to the challenge in New England. This is not one of them. I won't be back for a meal. I recommend this place for a drink or for shots - as the patrons at the next table were inclined to do while cheering "Happy Monday!" I

This place continues to be one of my favorite places. The food is good, the service is good and the prices are right. I love heading down in the winter because its less crowded and easier to get to. This is a very nice little irish pub with great atmosphere.

Good place to eat fish and chips, drink english ales, and listen to live acoustic music (including irish folk songs) on your bar crawl down Thames street. The waitstaff is really friendly, and they even have games like connect four hiding in the back for your competitive pleasure.

Just like the real thing Go for lunch, stay thru dinner Great Irish breakfast Buskers is almost exactly like a real irish pub. They pour a good Guinness and Murphy's, and won't hurry you along if you're enjoying a sit. The waitresses are friendly and won't let you see the bottom of your glass. They have an excellent stew and chowder, and a full lunch menu. Although it's a touch busy during the tourist season (being right on Thames St. and all), it's one of the best places to get a beer and catch up with friends for most of the year.

Several beers on tap including one of my favorites "Newcastle Brown Ale". Jess had a Reuben with a huge amount of cornbeef. I was jealous because it was way better than my fishermans pie. Meg and Joe also had sandwiches with some really good steak fries. Good chowder. Reasonable lunch special prices.

Food was awful...they forgot to put lamb in the lamb stew but not to charge for it...complain? Forget that, no one cared and it was a hassle to get the attention of management...centrally located to rip off tourists...easier and less hassle to just give them your wallet and go somewhere else.

I love Buskers when it first opened and still love it to this day when I visit Newport. Buskers is a two level pub/restaurant with the decor that creates that authentic irish pub feel with the thick wood frames, stained glass panels and celtic etchings throughout. They have a great list of taps with all your top Irish beers and your local Newport Storm. Pub food prices are wicked good and my faves are -Fish and Chips -Jameson flavored steak -8oz Burger I had the best Nutty Irishmen drink there! and they pour a Guinness the right way...DOUBLE POINTS! I think my best memory at Buskers was the night before the St. Patrick's day parade, a band of bagpipers and their Irish drummer come in and play a couple of songs and we thanked them with a few pints of guinness.

  • Kim P.

Decent atmosphere - typical irish pub like decor. I've been a few times, but didn't review until now since I finally tried the food. I had the Bangers and Mash, hubby had the Shepherd's pie. The pie was ok - not great, but not bad either. The bangers and mash, however, was very underwhelming. The sausages were practically hot dogs, the mash had no seasoning, and the beans seemed to be from a can. They do have TVs everywhere and I've been a few times specifically to watch Red Sox games. Unfortunately this bar's TVs exhibit my greatest pet peeve - they aren't in sync. Depending on the channel, the best and biggest TV is either ahead or behind the other, smaller ones. This is particularly annoying when half the bar is cheering for a play that I haven't seen yet. The staff, however, has always been nice, and if I were just going for drinks and to casually watch a game that I wasn't as concerned about then it's a fine place to hang out. Which is why it has 3 stars instead of 2.

Only had drinks here, but the bartender was helpful and the Guinness as always was fantastic. The had live Irish music that allowed you to make requests, which is a reason the review went from 4 to 5 stars

We stopped in there on a cold January Saturday afternoon, 4pm-ish. Very quiet, just a few folks at the bar and at a couple of tables. We were in need of a drink and a snack prior to a large company party at another bar in Newport later that evening. The bartender was cheerful & attentive. The lemon-drop martini she made for my wife was great. My pint of Boddingtons was cold & fresh. My wife had the Stuffies, which she found to be terrific. I ordered a plate of Buffalo Wings, requesting them extra hot. Those wings are probably in my top 10 wings of all time. Heavily coated w/ sauce (as requested). The sauce was not the plain old "Frank's" hot sauce, but it had something else in it to give it a bit of a different flavor. I couldn't detect what it was, and I didn't ask, but those wings were outstanding nonetheless. Next time we're in Newport, we'll be heading back to Busker's for sure.

Some Friends and I were looking for an easy lunch and a few beers. The three of us had the Buskers burger on the bartenders(lauren) recommendation. Burgers were excellent all around. The Buskers burger has some spices mixed in which sets it apart from the other burgers. Very tasty. I look forward to trying the rest of the menu. -Good beers on tap -Bartender(lauren) pours a proper Guinness -Cleanest glasses I have ever seen..see Lauren -very friendly staff

Popped into Buskers with my ladies on a whim, we were hungry and they had an open table at the bar...we were very happy we did! Their menu holds a good variety and their Bloody Mary's are super yummy! I had a Tuna Caesar which is a fantastic combination, my ladies both had fried fish which was the best I've ever tried and I'm not so much a fried fish kinda gal but I'll rave about theirs! Just don't get the nachos...apparently the Irish have no clue when it comes to nachos...the cheese barely existed which makes the difference on nachos!

We stopped in at Buskers early in the afternoon for a beer. The atmosphere was great! We loved the feel of the bar. We loved it so much that we decided to come back for dinner instead of waiting an hour or so at another place. Our waitress was new, but extremely nice. Two at our table ordered the steak. One of the two has major allergies and needed hers plain with no seasoning, a baked potato and any steamed vegetable just plain. Buskers could not put together any side dishes for her so the meal came out with just a 8ounce steak on a plate. Both steaks were very gritty and more than half of each was spit back out. We told our waitress the problem and another worker and neither went and got the manager. The bill came and both the steaks were $25. We were obviously upset that we were charged that much for the one that came with no sides and was spit back out because of the poor quality of the cut. We again talked to the waitress and another worker and they said "The manager is behind the bar. Go talk to him if you want". Now at most places they will bring the manager over to you to help solve any problems, but we had to go track him down. Half hour later we were fed up with the situation, paid the bill and left. The rest of the meals, a cheeseburger, corned beef, reuben, and chicken pot pie, were just ok. The environment is what saved this rating, not the service and not the food quality.
