Delicious foods. Cozy cafe with super friendly staff!! I highly record eating here if you're in the area or are up for checking out a small, local Rhode Island restaurant. Yum!

I ordered Classic French toast with fruit on top. My order came out with the fruit topping microwaved and piping hot. Not a good thing. The French toast beneath were like warm and tasted like they were made the night before. They were flat and heavy. Very disappointing.

great spot! Fresh, simple food done right. If I lived closer, Id be there everyday!

We drove all the way out here and found that this business has been closed! :( I wish there was a way for the Yelp profile to be updated...Yelp says it's open today.

Okay, so this is a bit of a mixed bag. I am going with 4 stars for the pancakes alone. These are probably one of the two best places in RI for pancakes. They are homemade buttermilk pancakes and you can taste the love. They also make their own hash which is great...sort of. It is what they call country hash and it is like a hash version of a corned beef roast. It has cabbage, carrots and potatoes in it. It tastes good but, they are very light on the corned beef. So light I would be hard pressed to call it corned beef hash. Which may be why they don't come to think of it. But, they do make it on sight and it has some flavor, so kudos. The rest of the items we had, eggs and eggs bene were okay. Solid breakfast fare. Coffee was good and flowed freely. So I will admit that the rest of the group eating here was not 4 star impressed, but then again none of them liked pancakes in general. I will go back and try the French toast, they seem to specialize in that as well. The interior is comfortable but a little dated. They also have a big sheet or blanket that hags on the back area. I think it is their divider. So that is a little tacky. But all in all worth a shot. Again, 4 stars on the Pancakes

Visited here with 3 friends for breakfast last week. For the detail put into the French toast and pancake dishes, I wish as much detail was put into the hash. Canned hash in a place that makes gourmet dishes is just not acceptable. I tried the country hash which was ok. But I thought it was going to be corned beef hash with the added vegetables that the waitress described. I did not know it was going to be vegetarian. The home made baked beans were ok. Too heavy on molasses and not enough brown sugar. One person in my party had the apple pancakes, they were outstanding! Another had the salmon Benedict, also outstanding. Canned hash has to go. Homemade is so easy to make and will be sure to get you plenty of new customers!

It's a pretty normal for a breakfast place. The pancake menu is very original. The hash is really good too. It could be a little cleaner, and the help could be a little more attentive, I waited about 15 minutes after we finished eating for the check.

this is a great little place that serves up good food for breakfast and lunch. it's fresh tasting with wonderful flavors. the staff is friendly and kind and helpful and go out of there way for the customer. prices are very reasonable and they have chairs and tables set up bistro style if u like to sit outside. as others have stated there pancakes are great but today tried an eggs Benedict with a Basil sauce and it was fantastic!!

PB & J stuffed French toast and a western omelet, is what we ordered, and oh man it was amazing!! The veggies in the omelet were fresh, the ham wasn't fatty, and it was fluffy and cooked to perfection! I love love love the home fries! The French toast was different, but what an amazing flavor explosion! The peanut butter, bacon, with blueberries, strawberries, and raspberries on top...whaaat?!? I can't wait to come back and try the Brie stuffed French toast...mmmmm

Found this place here on yelp and wanted to try something new. It's solid for a local breakfast joint - and I've been to many! I'm a huge breakfast fan. I went there the other day for the second time. Both times it was around 11:00 on a weekend and not busy at all. The food was good - not amazingness in my mouth and I want to order seconds even though I'm stuffed - but good. They have the basics but also some more interesting options that aren't offered everywhere. The only reason for a 3 instead of a 4 star is the coffee, which is big for me. It's not bad, but somehow both times, it tasted like popcorn to me and my boyfriend. Overall, the place is clean, service was fine, and food was good. Not a bad choice for an easy breakfast.

Okay, I know I only wrote my original review few weeks ago, but the hubs and I tried to go again yesterday and when we ended up walking out, my husband reminded me of all the bad experiences we've actually had there. He vowed not to go again. So, in my original review I raved about the food and the niceness of the waitstaff (which is seriously only 2 women, EVER). Yesterday, we stoped by at 9:30 on a Friday morning and the place was packed, but there wee a few tables open and waiting to be cleaned so, we stayed to wait for someone to clean them. After probably 5 whole minutes of standing there and not seeing ONE employee, we were beginning to get annoyed. By then, I would think at least someone would come out to give something to a table, or see if anyone had come in, but no. We were just standing in the middle of the restaurant, waiting to sit down at a table that was clean. Finally, my husband got very frustrated and started complaining to be about how they are always short staffed and making apologies to the customers for something, "Oh, sorry we ran out of bacon", "Oh we're sorry, we just don't have anymore pancake batter this morning", "Oh, sorry about the wait, we are SO busy", ":Sorry your check is wrong, I'll fix it and be right back". No more. There are enough breakfast joints in RI to satisfy our breakfast loving hearts. We will find a new place to go.

My boyfriend and I recently moved into the neighborhood around Cafe Sowa, we drove by this place a million times and one Sunday felt lazy and didn't feel like cooking breakfast so we stopped in. My only complaint about this place is that there's not enough seating. THe first time we came here was summer time and we sat outside since the inside seating was completley taken up... they grow veggies all over their small patio area around this time of year and it was nice to see fresh ingredients being grown on site. We recently went again in January and this time of course sat inside... it was definately cramped but we love it here so we were fine. The waitresses here make you feel like you just sat down at your mother's kitchen table... they're EXTREMELY friendly and chit chat and joke around with you. Two of the waitresses kids work at the restaurant and buss tables and tend to joke around about it with the guests in a good way lol. I cannot say enough good things about the staff, their probably most attentive and friendly staff i've ever seen at any establishment. The food... omg it's fabulous. I normally get the banana carmalized french toast stuffed with cream cheese and i cannot say enough good things about it. IT's out of this world. My boyfriend normally gets the standard eggs, pancakes and homefries.. he's not a big breakfast fan normally but jumps at the chance to go here. I've heard they recently expanded the business into not just breakfast and lunch but dinner a few nights a week as well... i haven't had the opportunity to check that out but if it's anywhere near as good as their breakfast i'm sure this is going to be a weekly go to dinner spot. The prices here are also fabulous. Our last trip here was with 3 people and i don't think the bill went over $25 for 3 full meals and coffees. This is one of the gems we've found in the area and are so glad we did.

Today I had a delicious Salmon Egg's Benedict with a side of fresh fruit salad side as a substitute for the standard home fries. Who could ask for more? I did, I topped off my breakfast with a chocolate chip pancake. Yum. The friendly and efficient service is an additional plus. This home style restaurant is relaxed and comfortable, but a bit off the beaten path. The breakfast menu has many nice choices and the lunch menu looks good as well. Be careful, they are closed Monday and finish at 2:00 daily, 1:00 on Sunday. (I suppose subject to change) The Texas French Toast with Cranberries, Brie and Candied Walnuts is delicious, as well

Been here 3 times now each time was just ok. Today was downright disappointing. Although my server was great the food was subpar. At 4.50 for 2 slices of French toast. 2 dollars for Awful home fries. (Tasted and looked old) with no seasoning. I also ordered the country hash at 4 dollars. Flavorless. With a coffee the bill was 14 dollars very disappointing for below average food. I noticed the cook washing dishes in between without washing his hands. This entire experience minus the server has made me not want to return.

Delicious! The specialty pancakes, especially! We got the Sweet Potato Bacon and the S'mores pancakes. So good!!
(5)Angela D.
Came here with my old roomie on recommendation from my friend, Neil C. They have some very creative French toast options. Anna M. got the apple and brie french toast which was super tasty. I got the pb&j french toast (around $8). The pb was nice and crunchy (likely home made) and the jam was really fruit (nice and fresh). I usually have issues at breakfast when my dish is too sweet so I was contemplating getting a side of bacon. Then the waitress informed me that even if it's not on the menu description, the French toast had bacon in it!!!!! Problem solved! It was SO amazing and the bacon really makes it. I've never had anything like that before. I finished my whole dish (which I never do) much to Anna's surprise. Whenever I'm back in providence I'm definitely coming back!!

I have yet to find a place that has better hash browns. I don't know why they are so damn good. I don't eat dairy but I always make an exception for pancakes because I love them and just take the chance as to whether they put dairy in it or water. Sowa has a specialty pancake menu. LITERALLY a whole menu of just pancakes. I love it! Sweet potato pancakes please!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
(5)Jennifer D.
Great little breakfast place! Really liked the presentation of the Spanish omelet and the Mediterranean was really tasty! Fruit salad is better than that average bowl of melon and grapes that one usually gets-- a lovely mix of pomegranate, kiwi, fresh pineapple, grapes and papaya--yum!
(4)K J.
Love the sweet potato bacon pancake and the omelets are filled with fresh ingredients and not greasy. Waitstaff is friendly and attentive.
(5)Tio F.
Great little place for breakfast! My wife and I have been here several times and we have even taken friends and family. Service is always attentive and friendly Food is always great and they usually have something interesting as the special.
(5)Cassandra P.
My boyfriend and I decided to come here on a Saturday around 10am, I was slightly hesitant because of it being a cafe assuming it was small and not much of a food selection. I was pleasantly proven wrong.. The choices of meals were perfect and it was small but the decorations were fun and full of owls! (Hence the name "Sowa") The staff were completely friendly and provided us with recommendations when asked. Who I believe to be the chef/owner came out and was super ambitious about his cafe and friendly to the tee! BUT my favorite "unique" side dish had to be the country HASH! It was made with cabbage and carrots/turnips! It was AMAZING! Overall I give this cafe two thumbs up!
(4)Maria S.
Great great price! Restaurant was clean, food was excellent, service was attentive. We both got omelets and we highly recommend the Western and The Mexican. The breakfast potatoes are addicting but at these prices - you can afford it! The only opportunity is the coffee - it isn't the best however it also isn't the worst
(4)Andrea V.
Great mom n pop breakfast diner!! Great service, great food...what more could you ask for? The prices are reasonable, and we were sat right away...no more than 15 mins later, the food came. My boyfriend and I both ordered hash ( delicious) eggs over easy ( perfectly done), home-fries which were amazing, and finally bacon and sausage which were both delicious!! I highly recommend coming on in and trying it out for yourself, you won't be disappointed!!
(5)Matthew J.
Had to go to the tailor so me and the mrs look nearby and found this place.... waitress was very nice and took care of us very well. Menu was small but the food was cooked very well nice fresh food cooked perfectly... portions were also good no complaints def should try it

The wife and I love coming here. Breakfast is awesome and the service makes you feel right at home. Little place that packs a punch. A must!
(5)Sarah O.
Omelet was absolutely delicious! Innovative menu, you can get traditional breakfast or try something new. Food was fresh, service was excellent. Looking forward to my next breakfast there soon.

Fantastic atmosphere, food and service! We have never been disappointed.

Yum and excellent service!!!

This really is as good as it gets for a casual breakfast & lunch cafe & I mean this in the best possible way. My husband & I make it a point to eat here as often as possible. Meals are excellent value, service friendly & quick and specialty sandwiches are so good I often try to imitate them. Love the apple & brie french toast & my husband says they make the best potato salad around. You feel like you're eating with friends & family here except they cook better :-)
(5)Alex R.
Best breakfast sandwich I've had in a while! Reasonably priced, fast service, great breakfast spot overall.
(5)Kailyn H.
My favorite breakfast place around. Everything is delicious, but the benedicts are the best in RI. I get the salmon benedict everytime. It is delicious and the presentation is beautiful (even for take out) !!!!! I also enjoy the lunch menu, but it's hard to choose anything over the benedict if given the choice. My lunch dates however have mentioned several times that the homemade salad dressing is to die for. The service is friendly, helpful and timely.

The food is great. I recommend the gourmet french toast if you have the room; if you don't, the regular french toast with a side of eggs or hash is great. The chef will come to your table sometimes to check on you or even serve you. The one thing I would recommend improving is the coffee. It is something you would expect at a truck stop. Were I on a road trip, I would not mind, but for breakfast I think higher quality beans are in order. Except for DD, there is a dearth of coffee places in the immediate area. Adding in higher quality coffee would make them a sure stop for many local people, even if it is just to get coffee to go. Update: Tried the dinner. Not overwowed with it. The starter bread was not their own-- they should try baking their own bread or at least get quality baguettes from a local bakery. It seemed like it was italian bread from the bread aisle at the supermarket. Pasta was ok, the chicken had gristle/fat, which was unfortunate. The parmesan looks like the kind that you get in a shake-on form from the market aisle. If they at least bought fresh-grated parmesan that comes in a tub it would improve the appearance and taste. The pesto sauce was too average, I am not sure if it was handmade or not there, which is never a good sign. Pesto sauce is pretty easy to make (having made it myself), so I'm hoping they'll at least start to make their own. Pasta by itself is a cheap product for restaurants to buy, it's really what they do with it that makes the difference. I don't expect them to make their own pasta by hand given it's a small diner, but I do hope they'll improve what they do with it. If they find their feet with the dinner items I will come back and update this.

Owned and operated by a Chef who cares about your total dining experience. I love this place! Great breakfast, I had the Ham and eggs. The ham was so tender and juicy it tasted like it came directly form Grandmas's Sunday diner table. The coffee was bold and always in the cup. At Cafe Sowa I was treated like a treasured guest; pleasant small talk, highly responsive service and a visit from the owner/chef just to ensure everything was as good as it could be. Every restaurant should aspire to create such a positive vibe. It's so good I feel guilty that I don't go more often.
(5)Tyler M.
The best way to describe the atmosphere of this joint is eating at grandma's house, its that comfortable! Aside from the "review us on yelp" plug that can be found everywhere O,o.... Anyhow I had a pleasant breakfast here, the food was great and I didn't feel rushed, it's more of a laid back environment. I just ordered a bacon egg and cheese sandwich with homefries on the side, for 4.50$ its better than dunkin. I love LOVE their home-fries, they were great, best I have had in awhile. I'll will come back, I like the way they run things.

We won a gift certificate at a fundraiser raffle and went for breakfast recently. We enjoyed this little cafe. The server was friendly and the cook (owner?) came out to meet us. I had the Irish International Omelet with country hash, and it was savory and delicious. We got a pumpkin bread pudding to go (it just came out of the oven), but ended up eating it as soon as we got home; it didn't turn out eggy as I've had other places. I have to mention that the server got our order right...I feel the need to mention this because we've had issues at other places lately with screwed up orders or servers not really listening to our requests. We love to go out for breakfast some weekends, and I think we found our new nearby breakfast place.
(5)Amanda B.
My husband and I tried this place recently and loved it. He had an early bird breakfast type thing which was an awesome price for everything he got, and I had a toasted cheese sandwich with Swiss, brie, gala apples and crispy bacon pieces on Texas toast. It was super good and came with a really good mixed greens salad. Great prices, atmosphere and food. Much nicer looking than other breakfast places in the area.

Just went to Cafe Sowa with my boyfriend this past Sunday for brunch. When I walked in, I immediately noticed the decor and felt a warm welcome! As another reviewer states, it IS "just like Grandma's." The atmosphere felt very 'relaxed' and we were not rushed to give our order. The menu is quite impressive and eclectic, definitely a 'breath of fresh air.' While waiting for our food, I happened to check out the kitchen (clear view from where I was sitting). Another plus for this place!!! The kitchen looked immaculate. As someone who works in the restaurant industry, this is something I make a point to notice. Cleanliness is key! The omelet I ordered was one of the best I've had in a long time, and very fresh! The homefried potatoes were also great, not greasy, not heavily seasoned. Wasn't really a fan of the coffee, but it was hot and I didn't have to ask for a refill. And of course who can argue with the prices??? Very reasonable for what you get. I would love to return for another breakfast and definitely try lunch. Keep up the good work!!

Cute, clean cafe. This place was vegetarian friendly, enough. The plates were presented with style. I do have a few major gripes though. 1. My veggie benedict was terrible. It looked AMAZING, but tasted gross. It was frozen mushrooms, frozen peppers and frozen asparagus. I need to add that it was still partially frozen when it arrived. Im not one to complain, so I ate one benedict and pushed my plate away! 2. You have to ask for a coffee refill/warm up. They never once asked you. OK, now to some positives!! 1. I tried my husbands' apple brie stuffed toast..... um, yummm!! It was beautifully plated and delicious! 2. My son had smores pancakes. It was another tasty selection! 3. The homefries were seasoned perfect and cooked to perfection. 4. The waitstaff was beyond friendly, as was the cook in the kitchen. All-in-all, I gave it a 3. But I will be back to try itit again and give a review! :-)
(3)Marissa R.
We came here for brunch and it was delicous! I'm only taking off one star because they don't serve alcohol and I really wanted a Bloody Mary. But, the staff was great and the food came out fast :)
(4)Heather G.
I ordered the Greek Omelet that called for spinach, tomatoes, onions and feta cheese. My omelet had tons of onions, some feta cheese and tomatoes and 2 spinach leaves.. TWO LEAVES OF SPINACH... really!!! And I ordered the country hash... it was only potatoes and carrots.. no corned beef to be eaten. Who charges $4 for potatoes and carrots?? I would pay double for homemade corned beef hash, if there was corned beef. I was soooooo disappointed because I really thought I would get a great meal at this place. Word of advice...if you want a Greek Omelet, you need to ask for spinach to be included. At least Amanda's Kitchen actually puts spinach in their Greek omelet.

Love the hours, Breaksfast all day. very cute cozy place great location. Waitress super friendly and accomodating. really fast service, cook came out to personally ask how it was. Homefries were awesome, greek omelet great, fruit cup good but absolutely tiny for the price. Pleanty O bacon as a side!! will be a new regular spot as a new lincoln-ite.
(3)Jane R.
Not only is the food great at this little place, but the owner is a great guy and genuinely cares about his customers. We ate breakfast at this place a very, very cold Saturday morning. I highly recommend the french toast with caramel sauce and bananas and the home fries are AWESOME!! We look forward to going back very soon.
(5)Julie Y.
Just moved to Lincoln and we came here because of the great Yelp ratings. I even ordered the Sausage Egg Benedict with basil hollandaise because of a picture on the site! I'll be honest we were a little iffy at first because we walked in at a prime time for breakfast on a Saturday morning and the place was empty. However, by the time we had finished eating, at least 15 people had come and gone in that time. It's a quaint little breakfast place, with decent prices, OK decor but great food. We'll definitely be coming back.
(4)Amanda R.
Yummmmm! Looking for deliciousness? This is your place! Apple and Brie stuffed French Toast amazing. The home-fries are to die for! Great find!
(5)Patti H.
Went there for a New Year's Day breakfast/brunch with my daughter. We pulled up and the sign on the door stated that they were open until 1:00 pm on New Year's Day. We walked in at 12:25 to stares from the staff and as we prepared to sit down, a waitress walked over to tell us that she was "really sorry" but they were actually closing at noon and therefore were not seating anyone else. She said that she "had no idea" who put the 1:00 sign in the window! This has to be one of THE WORST customer service experiences that I have ever had. I will NEVER go back and I will discourage my friends and family from going there as well. Happy New Year.
