Today I woke up and I was on a mission. I wanted sushi. This was no ordinary sushi craving that could be satisfied by a package of California rolls at the supermarket either. I wanted legendary sushi. Sushi to tell my future children about. So off I went at around 3pm with two other trusty companions and fellow sushi enthusiasts (my mother and my boyfriend). We actually headed to Riverside, RI to a different place only to find they recently decided to change their Monday hours to none at all. Luckily, two miles away was Miku Sushi! It just goes to show that you might not get to where you planned, but where you end up is sometimes even better! I was practically salivating as we pulled in. Barrington, as always, is impressive in it's storefronts so the first impression was great. We walked in and were seated right away near the window in a booth. I pawed through the menu like a feverish....sushi....monster. You get what I mean, I really wanted sushi. Luckily the food was quick to arrive. For an appetizer we got Beef Negimaki. They were amazing and piping hot. They came in an order if six so we each got two which I felt was quite enough. And finally, the moment I waited all day for! SUSHI! I ordered the Valentine roll. The tuna was wrapped neatly and it tasted great with the avocado. Side note: one thing I really loved about this place is they listed everything that was in each kind of roll which I found super helpful. We all sampled each other's so I tried my mom's next. She got a "Yummy roll". It definitely fit the name. Once again, the avocado was so refreshing with the crab meat and the tangy yellow sauce topping it. My boyfriend got the Miku roll. This one was by far my favorite of the day. It had salmon, avocado, egg and spicy tuna if I can remember correctly. There was this amazing "house sauce" that it sat on as well as these amazingly delicious crisp onions. If you like your sushi to have a deconstructed, you-are-gonna-have-to-eat-this-with-a-fork quality; then I recommend the Miku roll. Aside from the food, the interior was trendy and clean. The hostess brings a hot towel for each member in your party and the chopsticks are a good quality. The music playing was some sort of top 40 mix it seemed, which I enjoyed in contrast to most sushi restaurants I've been too that have tried to uphold this serene persona by playing sounds of babbling water running down a river of rocks. Perhaps my desperation for sushi fogged my ability to see any flaws at Miku Sushi, but I'm pretty sure there aren't any. I'll definitely be back so if any issues should arrive I'll update this accordingly. I wouldn't hold your breath though!

The lunch bento boxes are a great deal, and the specials also run on Saturdays. I was very happy with my green tea and shrimp tempura bento box with tempura vegetables. Everything was great. Very nice décor inside, friendly service. The only negative is I don't think it is appropriate for the children of staff members to be running around the dining room. Cute little girl, but not the place for it.

Favorite place for sushi! Fusion rolls are excellent. Recommend Princess Roll and Samurai Roll. Ingredients always fresh, staff very pleasant, prices reasonable. Try the Haru Maki for an app. Great for take out too!

BEST wonton soup I've ever had in my life!

Small town sushi joint, a few tables, friendly staff. We order out of here regularly, and they know us and our favorite things by heart! Fish is fresh and juicy, but I do wish they were a little more creative about their special rolls.... but still. If you dine in, watch out, the owners' little daughter hangs out there, and she will talk your ear off. :)

This is one of the better sushi spots I have been to in ri. The prices are great, especially being in Barrington. The service is great and the decor is nice. They really go all out on their vegetarian rolls and have some of the best I have had in the area. Overall a great spot.

Since it was Good Friday and Catholic guilt would take over if I ate meat today, I decided to stop in Miku Sushi for lunch with my sister. The place is small with capacity for about 25 people or so. The waitress wanted to take a drink order before I even sat down. I had a lunch special of two rolls for 8.95 which comes with either miso soup or a salad. I chose the soup which was very good. For my sushi I had spicy shrimp and spicy tuna. Both were excellent and the presentation was nice. Only thing I was dissatisfied with was service. The waitress definitely rushed us when ordering.

Sushi Express is now Miku Sushi. I'm not sure if they are under new management but the food seems to be the same....and that's a good thing. The Sweet Potato Tempura roll is still my favorite but the "I Like Eel" roll is a close contender. On a recent visit, my husband went for the 306 Roll and it was a very large portion and was plated beautifully. I would say that Miku Sushi definitely has some of the best plating style in the area. Almost everything from rolls, to soups, to dessert is presented with a definite visual appeal. While we really enjoy the sushi, soups and appetizers here, I will warn hibachi fans that if you are looking for the entertainment aspect of hibachi, you won't get it here. They do have hibachi items on the menu but they are made to order in the kitchen. There are no communal hibachi stations here. As others mentioned, prices are slightly higher than others but you can either spend the money to stay in town or spend the money on gas to drive to Providence.

I rarely post on restaurants. Being a chef myself I understand that people frequently only read the negative reviews which can bury a good restaurant. Miku is fantastic. The artwork they create on a plate as well as their signature roles are amazing. I dare someone to try to find fresher sushi in R.I. as artfully crafted as Mikus. The waitresses are friendly and attentive and their miso soup warms the soul. Thank you for great service and above superb food

My husband and I randomly decided we were going to have sushi and picked this one. As a Taiwanese, I have to say, this is the best sushi I have ever had yet in the States. Asmosphere was great. Not deadly quiet but not a loud, noisey place either, which makes it a great sit down place. It's not big inside so I'm not sure if they take groups. Definitely have a sushi bar visible and some four-people booths. We were kind of hungry so we ordered sushi for two. Holly Molly we were surpriced how big the portion was. You know, most of the time, you pay for pricey sushi and the portion always turn out to be snack sizes.....or you get large potion with poor quality. We were seriously impressed with the quality and portion. Not to mention the art they did for the presentation tray(which I will attach in the photos ) We both walked out full. Every penny was worth it. We will definitely go back often if we happen to be in the area again!

Great food, relaxing, decent prices! Been here twice, loved it both times. First time we got pad Thai, delicious. Second time, sushi. Sushi was great, they had combination plates for sushi and for about $16 you can get 3 rolls! Also had the dumpling soup and it was one of the best I have ever had. If your local in the Bristol/Warren/Barrington area this place is worth a trip.

Food was awesome!!! My girlfriend and I are pretty particular about sushi but these rolls practically melted in our mouths. The service isn't incredibly friendly but the food is worth it. Sad they don't offer cocktails- just wine and sake.

I live in Wilmington, NC and have friends and family that live in the East Bay area of Rhode Island. I first tried Miku Sushi about a year ago and have been back several times since. The sushi dishes, appetizers, salads and Asian entrees are all expertly prepared and plated, with very fresh ingredients. The wait staff are very professional and attentive as well as being very friendly. I have dined at well over 20 different sushi restaurants around the country and Miku Sushi is right at the top of my list of all-time favorites...enjoy!!

This restaurant when it first opened was really really good used to be our go to place for hibachi and we used to get to takeout there but the last two times have been really really bad - today I had an horrible lunch hibachi chicken that taste like rubber sent it back no apology no refund the waitress doesn't speak English and they have kids running around all the time won't be returning

We eat at Miku almost once a week, more sometimes. great sushi for a place in Barrington, friendly service, fast takeout, and their hibachi is awesome. In the restaurant-desert of barrington, I am so happy to have this place! I'd like to respond to another reviewer on here who accuses them of not being friendly to people with food allergies. She went to a SUSHI restaurant with two friends who are allergic to seafood. WTH? Miku does gluten free and they are always (in my experience) happy to make reasonable substitutions, but for obvious reasons there are some foods in the restaurant that are unavoidable, such as fish and soy.

I had planned on visiting this restaurant for a while now, and I'm glad I did! The vegetable hibachi choice was a great price, as well as great-tasting. It was a good portion, and I like the choice of soup or salad, as I love the salad, and my boyfriend loves the soup. The meat options were a little pricy, but apparently quite tasty. The place has a nice, small, modern ambience with clean facilities and plenty of different Asian meal options. I plan on returning often!

Recently just opened up in barrington ri & my first visit of many to come was this past sun, love the decor inside with nice white brick wall near the hibachi bar & dark wood tables/floor, waitstaff is extremly nice & pleasant with a assortment of delic items on the menu sushi, curry, duck, salads, meat, rice & so much more. I had the terriaki chicken w veggies served hibachi style on a sizzling skillet, sauce is AMAZING!!!!!!! full bar w bottled beers so head on down for a lil asian sensation of grt food.

My first experience with Miku Sushi was yesterday. I feel compelled to right this review because this place doesn't take dietary consideration into play. Two friends and I decided to stop into Miku the other day and try it out for the first time since our favorite Japanese restaurant was closed On Mondays. One of my friends has a severe allergy to nuts, tree nuts, legumes, peas, seafood and beans. His allergy is so serious that he could die eating these foods. I am severely allergic to seafood too but particularly shellfish. My other friend cannot tolerate see food too. Bottom line, we all have dietary considerations that must be followed. Anyways, we were ordering bento lunch boxes and hibatchi on the menu, came with soup or salad, California rolls, some fried seafood, and an entrée. Red flags went up for each of us. My friend ordered beef hibatchi and had to make sure several times that NOTHING seafood, soy or any other of the foods he was allergic to, not be placed on his order. The waitress seemed troubled to fulfill his wish. Then I placed my bento lunch order. I ordered an asian curry and I tried to substitute the rest of the seafood in that box with something else. The waitress would not substitute the seafood for me. I was lost! We live in times where everyone has an allergy to something and they can't even make a simple substitution for my dietary needs or all hell would break loose. So she changed my California roll into just plain white rice... A cheap substitute. And changed the fried seafood for edemame, which tastes bland and flavorless. My other friend tried getting the same order as me and the waitress denied him. We were not happy campers. If a customer is paying top dollar for food, you better serve with hospitality, respect, and do everything you can to please the guest. My friend felt offended that they don't tolerate allergies respectfully. One more thing, they didn't refill our waters. Other than the food issues, the place looked nicely decorative. However, there were flies bothering us. I HATE FLIES WHILE I EAT. And the service was snobby. I'm from Barrington, I deal with enough snobs already, I don't need it from a waitress that I plan on tipping.... The prices were a bit high considering the simple food we ordered... Would I ever consider coming back here again?.... NO. Instead, I go to a much cheaper place with a friendly atmosphere called Yama Fuiji II in Riverside.

I grew up in Barrington and now live in New York City and this is the best Japanese food I've ever had in Rhode Island and better than a lot of places in NYC! So happy to discover this place. They are a welcome addition to the limited Barrington food scene. Awesome service, great presentation, delicious food, and not expensive.

When we first tried Sushi Express we were initially impressed. Yes, the prices were a bit higher than we would pay in Providence, but for local convenience it was worth it. The next two times we ordered from here, things went progressively downhill. One really big issue was receiving completely wrong take out items from what we ordered, specifically a problem for us since one of our party was diabetic and must be very careful with what they eat. The language barrier is a bit of an issue when ordering over the phone too. If you're going to take phone orders, it would be a good idea to have someone who can communicate properly with the customer. Our most recent visit will be out last. Issues included items like their tempura sweet potato roll containing raw, undercooked, sweet potato. Simply disappointing.

Had dinner here last night and had the popcorn shrimp app and the tuna don sushi dinner. Everything was perfect. The shrimp were lightly cover with a sauce that was a little spicy and so good. My entree was tuna on rice... but the way it was display was incredible. They turned the thin slices of tuna into rose buds and made a boring sushi dish exciting. The fish was fresh and the service is still learning, they have only been open a few weeks. I sat down around 7:30 and the place was pretty packed. It seats around 30-36 people, and the atmosphere is a little loud but not as bad a Chiazza next door. To wrap it up, if your in the East Bay, we finally have a great sushi place!

Yep, I was a little hesitant to try sushi express because of the name, but it's actually quite good. My salmon teriyaki was perfectly cooked, and the sauce was excellent, not too sweet like teriyaki sauce often is. The portion was huge and the price was in line with or below other RI Japanese restaurants. I also tried the vegetable roll and the age tofu, both were very good. Everything was very clean tasting and well prepared, and our server was excellent. I'll definitely be back.

So, it's been a few months. This is one of few places which actually improve over time. Black cod dish is very fusion and well presented, tasty too. Basil glass noodle is my favorite. I usually do not like hibachi, but theirs is actually not bad. Portion sizes have increased as well. We have had sushi finally, not bad.

We have been coming here weekly. Sashimi and sushi are great. Presentation is absolutely beautiful. We have tried many of their special rolls...never disappoint. Dishes are fairly priced. Excellent quality. Wait staffs and owners are very friendly. We will be back again soon.

Don't be put off by the name like I was. "Sushi Express" sound like a mall food court type place, not a real restaurant. My wife, kids and I visited the restaurant last week and were very pleasantly surprised. This is not top line Asian food, but for it's genre (inexpensive, multi-Asian fare) it was very good. It's very small, but has cute decor. The miso soup was very good, but not great. The won ton soup was surprisingly good, almost excellent. The won ton was made with a nice thin, tender wrapper, not those thick, gummy wrappers one finds at lousy Chinese restaurants. And the broth was clear and wonderfully complex, with lots of bits of (tiny) dried shrimp floating in it. The shrimp tempura was excellent, as was the chicken katsu. Two small negatives: the tempura was served with a sauce that was far too heavy on soy sauce and the chicken yakitori was mediocre. Still, for the price, we were very pleased with our meal, and can't wait to try the sushi on our next visit.

Over the past year Sushi Express became Miku. The menu changed drastically but kept some of the favorites. They now have a lot more rolls as well. I also feel like their non-sushi items are are better. I've enjoyed several of the new rolls, such as the veggie roll, vegetable dragon, princess and a few more. They've all been really good and very "clean" tasting. The udon or soba soup is also really good. Still wish the sushi portions were a little larger, but the food remains great quality, just a little expensive still. A place I will continue to go back to dine-in or get takeout!

I was surprised that I actually liked the sushi here because the name makes it sound low rate. Have tried it a couple of times & will return to try other things. I just got take-out but the service was good. It's also clean & modern inside. I think the prices are reasonable compared to other sushi places.

Brand New Place... I was really excited because it is a few blocks from my daughter's pediatrician. The customer service is rather bad... After waiting 15 minutes for them to open the door (they opened late that day). The wait staff just stood their laughing with one another and chatting as we stood outside. We then finally got inside. It took the lady several minutes to get us a menu. (even though there was NO ONE around) The staff continued to joke around with each other. Seriously... do they even want me to eat in their restaurant!

We go here a lot because it is convenient and the sushi is good. It is presented beautifully and is flavorful. My favorite sushi in RI is Haruki but, sometimes it is easier to stay in town. If there were 1/2 star ratings - I'd actually give it a 3.5 stars only because of consistency. Sometimes the appetizers are AMAZING and sometimes they are ok/GOOD. The other night, we went and they were ok/ good. The Rock shrimp tempura appetizer was smaller portion than usual. At first, I was not sure if it was smaller or the plate was bigger than usual. We realized it was a bit of both. They also cut the shrimps in half - which they have never done before. Were they out of rock shrimp and passing regular shrimp off by making them smaller OR, trying to conserve and give us 1/2? Either way, that concerned me. We have ALWAYS had good meals there and now I'm a little concerned. Other that that, this is a consistently decent local sushi place, with good take out and beautiful plating of the food. We go about 2 x a month.

Just ate in-house tonight. The waitstaff was right on top of things and very cute. I had the Thai fresh spring roll- it was very different and not fried. It was really good. I also had a couple Hand rolls: lobster tempura and sweet potato. My wife had the surf and turf hibachi which was also really good. My daughter had sashimi entre and she said it was amazing. We will be going back soon.
