Was dying for a good Chinese joint in Barrington and this was my second place to try. The first place was disgusting so I was keeping my fingers crossed. I was a bit leery when trying to find their menu online to no avail. I finally called and ordered my old standby, the Mongolian chicken. I arrived to a completely empty restaurant at noon. When I approached the cashier she grabbed the only available bag and rang me up....bad sign number two. I was however happy with the $6 cost for what felt to be a fairly heavy bag and a can of pop. When I arrived home I reluctantly opened the bag, and to my surprise the meal looked very appetizing. I grabbed a fork and took a bite and was quite happy with the flavor and heat. I agree with the posts on here that say this is a middle of the road, decent Chinese place. It's not a PF Changs, but it's also a fraction of the price. I will definitely be back for another meal.

I agree with one of the previous reviews that this is your standard chinese take-out. There are some items which they do really well (lo mein) and some which aren't so good (orange chicken, too sweet). Their spices are a little 'different' but that's neither a good nor a bad thing here. The restaurant itself is a dump, which does scare me, but the consistently good lo mein (hard to find this good, in my opinion - and I'm tempted to give them 4-stars because of the lo mein) will keep me going back. Soups are good too. Price is great. But I can say that I would never eat in the restaurant as the smell of fake air freshener is incredibly overpowering and the place is lacking ambiance to the point that it makes mcdonalds look like a 5-star restaurant.

Probably the best Chinese (American style) food on the planet. At least in my opinion. Their food is fresh, colorful, and delicious!! They are very inexpensive and they deliver as well. Their brown gravy is mesmerizing, I would drink it out of a coffee mug. Also, super yummy pork fried rice, which is something I could usually live without.

Amanda is either insane or she is a friend of the owners. The food here is average at best. It has been a couple years since I ate there, so I'm not going to write much, but I was unimpressed. I also don't like the environmentally unfriendly plastic containers they package most of the food in.

So Salty It Gave Me Mouth Sores-- I ordered the Moo Shoo Pork, and it was so salty I could barely taste anything else. In fact, after I ate the first pancake filled with the cabbage and pork filing, sores started popping up in my mouth as a reaction to all the salt cooked into the dish. About 15 minutes after I stopped eating it and washed it down with some soda, the salt-sores went away. The rice pancakes (which come with that dish) also broke instantly when I tried to fill them, which means that they were months old. My friend ordered the orange chicken which was supposed to be spicy, but there was no spice in the dish at all and instead tasted more sugary than eating a box of Cinnamon Toast Crunch topped with ice cream and cookies all at once. The taste was bland other than the grease and sweet syrup poured all over the fried chicken pieces. Do NOT waste the money, time, or calories spent by going here.

So much hate aimed at this place. Not sure what everyone expects from them. Its not chinatown or some sit down place, its fast food. Not great, not bad, just your average takeout chinese place. Sure its greasy and fatty but isn't that what its supposed to be? Great after a night of too much partying.

Other reviewers need to calm down! The food here is just fine. Granted we only do delivery, I can't speak to dine in environment. It is always fast and yummy. Good food, good prices, for when you need a Chinese food fix. We always order the Shrimp with Garlic Sauce and Crab Rangoon, never had an issue.

Good tasty take out Chinese food. It's convenient for us and so we do go there about every week to two weeks. However, it doesn't have the greatest ambiance for dining in.

For the price, this is great food. It's just your standard Chinese restaurant that's quick, cheap and yummy. One of my favorite places for take out, especially in this area, and they deliver too. Service is pleasant, accurate and quick for both dining in and take-out.

I am very unhappy with Golden Bowl, I am someone who eats a strict diet of seafood only and upon ordering and paying for the Shrimp and Broccoli lunch special saw huge dime size bits of pork mixed in. This is an unusual addition to this type of dish and I'm very irritated it wasn't mentioned on the menu or over the phone. When I called to notify them that they should either alert customer's ordering this food of the pork inclusion verbally or on the menu they neither offered me an apology or a refund. I won't ever be eating here again.

Some of the most revolting Chinese food I have ever put between my lips. And I don't mean revolting in the sense that sometimes you crave greasy Chinese food, I mean it is barely passable as consumable by humans. I am agonizing over the fact that I have to give them an entire star to write this review. Do yourself a favor, order a burger at McDonalds, let it sit on your kitchen counter for three days, then eat it. You'd be better off that way than ordering from Golden Bowl.

The meats they choose to put into their dishes are not fit for human consumption. I don't mean the cuts - serve me dark meat chicken and the least expensive cuts of pork and beef if you must, but please trim it of fat and cartilage before stirring it into my dish. Because this is the only asian restaurant that I know of that delvers to Barrington, I've given the friendly people at the Golden Bowl a dozen chances to fix things. Now, if I have a craving, I just order their vegetarian dishes to avoid triggering the gag reflex. Sure, we know they put these same non meat chicken parts in the nuggets at McDonalds, but at least they have the decency to grind them up first so one is not biting into globs of chicken fat or cartilage when expecting the flavor and consistency of chicken meat. The pork is slightly less revolting, and the beef, while still fatty and terrible, is the highlight of their meat entrees. Given these facts, I can safely say that Amanda R must either be a vegetarian, an employee of the restaurant, or be practicing to be a contestant on Fear Factor.

Chinese Cuisine

The popularity of Chinese food in America can be adjudicated by the appearance of China Town in many major cities in the United State of America. The popular trend of ordering or opting for Chinese take away food isn't unknown in America. Chinese take away food comes to rescue when you're too tired from work or too exhausted to cook. No one can resist the temptation of eating spicy noodles, shrimp, chicken, beef or pork cooked in the sweet and spicy sauce. The cooking method of authentic Chinese food is a lot different compared to what is served in America.

Generally, Chinese use dark meat small bones and organs to cook dishes but this changes when you are eating American-Chinese fusion food prepared using white boneless meat cooked with broccoli, carrots and onions. Back in China, the food is less spicy and oily as they favor steaming and braising method for cooking the most popular dishes. So, if you have a taste for authentic Chinese food, then try finding a real Chinese restaurant in the city. You can also try the most popular fusion Chinese food like Pecking Duck, Chicken Feet, Hot Pot, Shrimp Dumpling Soup, Mapo Tofu, Wontons, Chop Suey, Egg Rolls and not to forget Fortune Cookies.

There are not many restaurants in America serving authentic Chinese food. A little research on Restaurant Listings directory can help you locate the best Chinese restaurants in the city. Chinese cuisine is continuously evolving, and you can find a variety of dishes categorized as the food for lactose intolerant, gluten intolerant, vegan, vegetarian, and diabetic friendly. So, if you have a group of friends with different taste patterns, save the hassle and visit the nearest Chinese restaurant in your city.
