I give it 3 stars just for the soup and salad bar! It's usually always stocked and fresh salad....

Hoss' is borderline a fast food steak place. The sirloin tips are pretty tender, but the decor and ambiance of the place are very cafetaria-like. They have a salad bar with regular salad fare and some pasta salads. Also a couple soups are offered. There is a dessert bar and ice cream machine (ice milk really). It will fill you up, and you won't get sick from it, but its nothing to write home about. From what I can tell, York isn't known for their local treats - so you may just be hungry and need a fix. I've never been adventurous enough to try the seafood.

Honestly, I don't see how anyone can give stars for the salad bar. We've lived in York for a while now, and stayed away from Hoss's until I noticed a friend of mine goes there a lot (she posts on FB everytime she eats out). I was excited to check out the salad bar. The salad bar is a disappointment. First off, iceburg lettuce shouldn't be allowed on ANY salad bar. Raw spinach and romaine were in smaller bowls next to the iceburg lettuce, but were almost empty (I hung around for a while, but no one was concerned with them because there was plenty of iceburg). The toppings were few and not very fresh looking, and the salad dressings only slightly tasted like what they were labeled. Mostly they tasted like vinegar and salt. Ewww.... The reason for the 2 stars is actually the grilled chicken and other healthy options on the menu (steamed veggies, baked potatoe, etc). I liked the chicken, but was sad the salad bar stunk so bad. The soups weren't any better. They had grease floating on the top of all of them, so even though they were labeled it was hard to tell what was what. I stayed away from these as well. I'd say it's hard to mess up dessert, but Hoss' managed to do that too. The ice cream tasted chemically rather than being made from a milk product, and the toppings were really low grade. $28 for 2 to eat out with no drinks or apps involved? We should've just stuck with our usual.

Hoss's may be CALLED a Steak and Sea House, but I don't know if I'd ever order anything from the sea. The steaks are adequate. Not fantastic, but completely edible. Don't order green beans unless you like your beans canned for a few years, taken out and soaked in oil for a few days, and then rinsed off and left in salty water until they're nuked and brought to your table. All three of Hoss's stars come from one place and one place only. The all you can eat Soup, Salad, Bread, and Dessert bar. That's right, fellow Yelpers. Hoss's has a Salad Bar that hearkens back to the days of Sunday dinners at Ponderosa. And it's worth every penny. All 599 of them, or whatever ludicrously low price the salad bar alone costs. I wouldn't know. My fat butt ALWAYS orders a steak.

This place reminds me of Sizzler, when it was around. Steaks, chicken and seafood entrees with a salad bar. Love the French onion soup. The salad bar is fresh and they offer lite dressings which is nice since we all know that most of the calories from salads come from the dressing. That is if you care about the calories. If not, they got the regular dressings too. I have eaten at this location twice and at another location. Each time I have enjoyed my dinner and plan on going back sometime soon. If you are in the mood for steak, seafood and a salad bar without wanting to spend a whole lot, then try this place out. Thanks for reading my review. This review is based on my personal experience.

Went in for the burger promotion with "endless fries." I didn't know what to expect from a steak chain. The burger was below average, a notch above a fast food drive through, well below most bar burgers or specialty burger restaurants. My drink sat empty for most of the meal and I was never asked to refill the fries. I wouldn't have anyway, not nearly as good as Red Robin or Fuddruckers fries. Left a peculiar greasy feeling on the roof of my mouth. Lesson learned, don't go to a steakhouse for a burger. They gave me a buy 4 get one free stamp card, which I left on the table. Not "hossome" in the least, but two stars because "what do you really expect for ten bucks?"

I was pretty shocked at my experience last night. The snippy young woman who wasn't paying attention to my wife and I when we placed our order should have been a harbinger of things to come but we didn't heed it. Once we were seated we were greeted by a fly that spent more time at the table then our waitress. When the waitress did finally come by, she picked up our ticket and came back with our drinks about 15 minutes later. After getting our drinks, we were treated to a cold appetizer of Onion Loaf or their version of onion rings. When they are warm, they are good. When they are cold, not so much. You could tell that it was made at two different times so I am not sure if we got someone's leftovers or just had bad timing. We sent the appetizer back and requested it be made again. In the interim, we got our main courses, chilled tilapia on cold rice for the wife and dry, cold meatloaf accompanied by cold mashed potatoes, less than warm stuffing and gelatinous gravy that was also cold. At this point, we were totally disgusted and requested the manager who was very understanding. She offered a redo to which we politely declined. Normally I will give a restaurant a second chance but this was just too off to do again. The Hoss's on the west side is substantially better than this and I have never had an issue there.
