A bar that allows month old babies. This place boasts that it is ideal for children. WHY? The wife and I just sat down when a man came in with a screaming infant. When I told the waitress that I was leaving because someone brought a baby into a bar. The waitress goes (ok). I hope the child leaves a better tip than we do. For the waitress sake. By the way. There is smoking. I bet the mother of the baby would be thrilled. I had to enter a star level to be able to submit this. I give this place -3 stars. Also, very dirty, hot and smokey.

Impressive for Pottstown! We went here for lunch on a Saturday. I was fully expecting when I asked the waitress, "what's your darkest beer?" to respond with "Labatt." I was pleasantly surprised at the cozy atmosphere, excellent beer selections, and comfort pub fare. I could definitely see myself going back here when visiting family.

The Coventry Pub is a classic example of the tap rooms that populate southeastern PA. It's been there forever - as in as long as I can remember. I started going there 15-20 years ago for one thing: The roast beef sandwich. Hot, fresh, hand carved and piled high on a Kaiser roll with au-jus and horseradish. So much beef you could barely get your mouth around it. Fast forward, circa 2010. Went last Saturday night with a group of friends. Every bit the same old tappy - but better beer on tap (Spatan pils was a selection, served in a Spatan glass.). Notty pine paneling and furniture. The Phils game playing on tv over the bar. And there it was - a big hunk of steaming roast beef being hand-carved by the owner into sandwich after sandwich. If you want cheese, he dips it in the au-jus before layering it onto the beef. Every bit as tasty as I remember perhaps a tad less roast beef piled on. But frankly it was plenty for me. A true mouth watering delight for $7. Oh yea - and they make their own snapper soup . It was easily the best I've had in the area, hands down. No kidding - the real deal with huge chunks of snapper. One of the party had the corn chowder - with lots of high praise. All reasonably priced, lots of specials on beers. We didn't try any of the other food, but then again why bother? You just don't find these places outside of PA - at least in my experience. GO PHILS.

this place is great if you love cold food and enjoy the risk of food poisoning. we went there to sample their famous roast beef and carved ham sandwiches. talk about a total letdown. the guy making the sandwiches took forever to cut a few slices of meat off and throw it on a bun. yeah they dip the cheese into the juice and throw it on. big freaking deal.now heres the gross part. they keep the sandwich buns in some sort of metal container on the floor behind the bar. who knows what falls into it and when its been cleaned or what crawls into it at night. on top of that we watch the cook use the same knife to cut the ham and roast beef and he makes the sandwich on the cutting board where the meat gets cut. nasty. all i can think about was cross contamination the whole time.when we got our food it was cold and the beef was tough. i dont see how people think this is good. the service was terrible too. we waited about 10 minutes before we even got acknowledged. got myself a water because it was pretty hot out and it tasted funny. this place looks like it hasnt been cleaned in forever and its horribly outdated. we overheard the bartender talking to another patron at the bar and i guess the same guy who owns this dump is the same guy who owns the philadelphia public house. see my review on that place as well. whoever owns these bars needs to get out of the bar business.

If you're looking for a great hand-carved roast beef sandwich...look no more! I've been going to CP for close to 20 years. It's a good place to grab a sandwich and a brew. Most people don't know it's there...but the locals know it well. Enjoy!

You can't find these guys online, but they're out there and have been a part of the Pottstown Community for AWHILE. They have pretty awesome sandwiches. The pork station behind the bar? Money. Just absolutely a MUST. But the beer is pretty pricy. Awesome selection though. Good stuff for take out as well. For the size of the place, they do pretty okay. AND I always admire when they serve the appropriate pint glasses. If you read my bar assessments, you'll see I'm a stickler for glassware. Good spot, not great. More of a local vibe.

Well, the website states they're open till 11 p.m. on Wednesday. We walked in at 9:40 p.m. and told last call was in 15 minutes. We chose quickly from their limited menu ("fried food only", until we asked about their roast beef, which was available after all). We got much more limited portions and it was drier than we'd had previously, and the waitress seemed annoyed. At 10:30 the few other patrons were gone, and she turned off the music. We asked if they were closing, and she said they closed at 10. Last call at 9:55 and close at 10? Weird. The owner man (or manager?) had left by then and we guess she was done. We had paid by then so we took off not wanting to be where we weren't welcome. Sad; we'd previously had good experiences but will look elsewhere.

Walked in the door last night..patrons said hi but bar waitress looked and ignored us as we stood to be seated before we just sat where we wanted. Burgers were dry, hard and tasteless. Fries..frozen grocery store kind. Our dining room waitress was attentive though. Probably wont return.

I love dive bars and Coventry Pub certainly qualifies in this category. What makes it better than the rest is hands down the hand carved roast beef. They slow cook it for over 4 hours and and they have it down to a science... Don't come here for super fast service and glitzy bar stuff. This is a good old fashion family run local pub and they have been doing it for awhile. I saw some of the other comments about the service and yes - they aren't a Applebee's so if your in a rush head there... But you could relax and take in the atmosphere and you'll get your beer. (and better food).

Great food and atmosphere, poor service. I wish I could give 5 stars but the day time wait staff is horrible, specifically the bartender. I'm watching Bar Rescue right now and I think the host would want this person fired. We waited 15 minutes to even be acknowledged and it wasn't until I said Hello, how are you in an overly loud voice, we got service. With that being said, this place is comfy and warm like a local pub should be, and the hand carved roast beef is incredible. It's one of my favorite places and I wish the service was better.

This place is pretty good. The roast beef sandwiches are really good and come out with a a jar of hot peppers and horseradish for on top of the sandwich. The ambiance is old and could be updated but it reminded me of my grandma's basement bar back in the day... Not much is in the area so this is a good option.

Stopped in the pub to try the Roast Beef sandwich AWESOME!!!!! I read the other review but when they cut our meat there were two knifes one for ham one for the beef and the roll can has a bag in it with a lid! We enjoyed our visit and will return.

We went with a group of friends on Friday night. The sandwiches are good, but the best part was the fried pickles. The staff was very friendly and helpful. I would recommend this place to anyone that likes old school tap rooms or dive bars.

Walked in at about 4pm on a Saturday afternoon with no more than 6 people in the whole place. Sat at the bar, bartender took almost 10 minutes to ask me what I would like while she was playing with the computer right in front of me. People at table behind me had to ask for someone to take their order. Bartender returned with my drink, asked what I wanted without giving me the menu I asked for. I ordered soup and sandwich with fries, soup came out in a reasonable amount of time sandwich and fries about a minute later. Sandwich was cold by the time I finished my soup. Watched a few people walk in, sit down then leave because of lack of service. Wait staff seems to be more worried about whatever else they need to do vs the customers. Good bartenders don't have to be asked for another drink, I had to ask both times. Good food, TERRIBLE SERVICE!!!

This is actually one of my favorite places. It is nothing fancy but a nice little "tap room" with a large beer selection and large food menu. They hand carve hot ham and roast beef for sandwiches served on a delicious kaiser roll. I love the ham sandwich. The french onion soup is decent and their home made snapper is really good. Also the cheese steaks are really good too! And the prices are great!

I've been here a bunch of times. I like the atmosphere, and the food is reasonable for the price (especially the snapper soup and roast beef sandwiches). They run decent beer specials, and daily food specials. Good crowd, laid back, a solid pub.
