Stopped by for lunch today. The hours posted on the door said they were serving lunch until 4:30. We arrived at 3:40 and were told, after waiting five minutes for someone to actually look at us while we stood there awkwardly, that they were no longer serving lunch. Really?? Nice job, jerks. We went to Apple Valley instead and had a better lunch with a great, attentive bartender. Skip this artsy fartsy place...the menu was overpriced anyhow.

Love the food here. I wish I lived closer. I got the ham and swiss with Dijon on a croissant. The pasties were so good. Berry pie, lemon square, and cherry cheesecake. They also sell nice local products like jam and honey. The place is tiny so waiting inside is awkward. I would wait outside for a carry out. The wait was a bit long but they were busy. Cute atmosphere, friendly staff.

Love this gem. We are from St Louis and yelped it. Great working water mill with a cool stream to dip toes in. All kinds of history to explore while you eat home made pie. Must visit for good food!

Was in the area for this past July 4th weekend and came here for dinner based on the general positive reviews on Yelp. Unfortunately, we didn't have as positive of an experience. My gf and I shared the mussels as an appetizer and they were decent. They, interestingly enough, have a Vietnamese section of the menu and my gf's plate (shrimp and scallops with curry sauce) was pretty good though I enjoyed it more than she did. Unfortunately my skirt steak, ordered medium, was charred/ burnt and was one of the worst steaks I've had in a restaurant. The dessert (mocha choux) was pretty good. Service was pretty subpar and the waitress was inattentive so it was difficult to get her attention to explain my displeasure with the steak. When I brought it up at the end, she seemed unconcerned. The location was nice however prices were relatively high for the what you would expect for the area and the interior of the restaurant.

Planned a road trip from NYC to go to a wake for a coworker. On the way up, a friend did some web surfing and found Waterwheel Cafe. It seemed like a strange mixture of food (Vietnamese and American) and decided to give it a try. OH WHAT A GREAT PLACE! First let me say that the owner of the place was warm, welcoming and accommodating. We ate at the bar, so we can listen to music. Cozy bar area. By 8 PM the placed was PACKED with locals. It was very cool, to see old and young people come out to listen to music. It was a sad event I attended earlier today, so it was nice to hear good music, be around a friendly crowd, enjoy good food and enjoy life. The food was AWESOME! We had the sampler platter, and it was delish. Lamb meatballs and fish cakes were outstanding. I had the duck, it was very good and the waitress who assisted us very nice. My friend had the scallop shrimp dish (nice light sauce), and my other friend had the steak. It was a generous cut. Would I go back there again? You bet. Next time I will bring more friends to spend the entire day. Bravo Waterwheel Cafe. Thank you for making my one day trip a memorable one.

Consistently the best in pike county Not many places we can depend on always having great service food and beverage in pike county but the waterwheel never disappoints Darren always a great host!

Bush league at best. Only 90 minutes from Manhattan but light-years away. When we complained for waiting almost an hour for our meal the owner Darren Fouse said well Honey. it's Milford in the summer, as if that were an excuse. Honey???? OMG. They can't seem to handle the crowd. They need more waitstaff and the food was just so-so. The muscles were dry and so was the Caesar salad. Noise, slow Service and so so food Are not a great combination.

Came in at 11:30 craving french toast but they have a strict schedule and stop serving at 11:30. Even if you were waiting in line for 30 minutes. would be better if they served breakfast all day

They have a pretty good lunch menu which include sandwiches, salad, vegetarian selections, unique specialty sandwiches, plus soup specials. I got a bowl of their potato and dill soup and it was delicious. It was cooked perfectly it wasn't just pureed to mush and it wasn't chunky but it was a perfect consistency. It comes with two slices of fresh bread which was perfect with the soup. My fiancé got their Bánh Mì - Traditional Vietnamese Street Fare Sandwich. His mother got their Vietnamese Rice Noodle Salad and his father got the Sweet Country Ham with Brie Melted on a Brioche Roll. Everyone enjoyed their sandwiches and salad. All of their ingredients were fresh and this was a great place for lunch the only thing that I wish they would add to their menu is just simple French fries then lunch would have been perfect. Great place to go for lunch.

Just had the most amazing dinner with a group of friends! Each of us enjoyed delicious appetizers (don't miss the spring rolls, lamb meatballs and fish cakes!). I had the beef tenderloin on skewers over jasmine rice and it was the best meal I've had in years. My friends each had different Vietnamese dishes that they raved about! We shared 6 different desserts, too (most of us aren't dessert types, but the selection proved to be the highlight). Every course was better than the next and each was stellar! The Proprietor, Darren, is a sweet heart and greeted us with his usual grace and warmth and the attentive staff looked after us. Eager to return again and again! Many thanks to Darren and everyone at The Waterwheel!

Great restaurant, kind staff, some of the best meals you'll get in the Poconos. We had two meals here this weekend. Breakfast: Omelette with Swiss, peppers, ham and onions. - perfectly cooked, good balance of ingredients. Bacon - perfectly cooked, not greasy, tasted like a higher quality meat than I would have expected. Coffee - I'm partial to Starbucks, but their coffee was smooth and satisfying. Dinner: Butternut squash ravioli - decent cream sauce, tender pasta, smooth/not overly sweet filling Lamb Chops - decent by NYC standards, could have used some salt and I feel the few drops of pesto sauce overpowers the lamb. Olive Spread - great on the fresh bread served. Not oily. Nice fresh good quality olives. Service - friendly & very accommodating After dinner we moved into the bar area (mostly 50+ couples) for some very well performed jazz. The bartender was friendly and very appreciative of our patronage. Band was excellent, don't worry about the $8 music charge, it goes right to the band and is offset by the cheap drinks (again by NYC standards).

A friend of mine treated me and a drunken troll to lunch here yesterday. It was a pleasant day and we sat outside on the patio. The service was good and I especially liked that they came around to refill our water glasses and give a refill on iced tea. The Reuben sandwich was great, lean meat and cooked just the way I like it. My only complaint is that I love French Fries and they are not on the menu. I was able to get some leftover home fries from breakfast which were adequate but I really love regular fries. I guess they like to keep the offerings healthy and not deep fried. Next time I must try a dessert.

Cute cafe right on the stream. Great service and good food. My family loves to come here and we enjoy the meals every time. I highly recommend this place to anyone in the area. The only downside about this place is their slow service and strange hours.

Great fresh food. My husband and I shared the Reuben and salad with cranberries and almonds. The girls shared the grilled chicken and salad. They said it was the best food they've had in a while. On our way to MA. There's a creek behind the restaurant that we walked in and a cute little gift shop called 84 country store.

Like all of my Milford reviews- MILFORD IS SMALL. It literally has one stop light. You aren't in manhattan or LA. The waterwheel is THE exceptional gem in Milford. When I lived there (not my whole life) I went there as often as humanly possible willingly. Not because there weren't other options. It's authentic, wonderful, and you never ever feel like you've over stuffed yourself. You feel the way you're supposed to after eating...fed and ready for the rest of the day. It's historical and homey. It kinda makes me feel like I'm home visiting my Parents who are French but make the best food. If you come to The waterwheel, you'll see small town people that ALL know one another and it's still so bizarre to me even me. You'll see families, you'll see young couples, you'll see red hat ladies, you'll see people that went To high school together in 1954. And you'll run. Into your doctor and make an appointment right there. Yes sometimes there is a wait...but relax yourself and go look around or talk to someone you know there or eat a free sample or tweet about how cute it is. Relax yourself. Pricing- The evening menu goes up but the day menus is a one-two money sign. You will also treat yourself to the part of the day that leaves you smiling.

One of my favorite spots for brunch or lunch in Milford. I'm surprised it has two dollar signs instead of one. The prices are extremely reasonable. The service is always good. Granted, I know a few people who work there, but they are all good, friendly people. Also, there are a lot of healthy and vegetarian options.

Great food, but they have ants! and when I tried to address the situation with the waitress she ignored me so we moved our table and then she sat someone down in the same booth were we just moved from...

Just had a great angus burger here. The price was great and sitting outside overlooking the stream was the best! Definitely a great place.

(representing 3.5 stars) Very good sandwiches, great value, clean place, etc - marred only by *painfully* slow service. The staff all have an alarming lack of urgency, and that makes all the difference. We waited a mere five minutes for the food, took ten minutes eating it, and were waiting almost twenty-five minutes for our card to be processed. It wasn't particularly busy. I'll give it another go though - again, great sandwiches.

  • Matt G.

When we checked in, the hostess told us that our wait should be "just a few minutes", but we waited over a half hour to be seated. I understand the wait since it was busy at the time, but at least have the courtesy to warn us. Waitress was inattentive- it took her at least 15 minutes to take our order. My wife ordered the ham and melted brie sandwich- it was cold in the middle and burned on the top. I ordered the strip steak sandwich with cheese- medium temperature, but the steak was well done. We went here because it looked like a nice, quaint restaurant, but if I known that we'd spend an hour and half here (while trying to get home to Baltimore by a decent hour), I would have eaten elsewhere.

This is a nice, cozy place for breakfast, lunch or dinner. When I'm in the Poconos with guests, this is my go-to place to bring them. Have only had breakfast and lunch, and both were very good. It's a quaint place built around a waterwheel, which you can tour while you're there. The food is very good, and they have some interesting menu items. The only complaint I have is that they allow dogs outside. My friend and I had to contend with two large great danes at the next table. One came over and was sniffing our food. And I don't believe they were service dogs. That turned me off a bit. I just won't eat outside next time!

After living in the tri-state area for most of my life, I have had the pleasure to dine at the Water Wheel quite a few times. During my most recent visit back home to see the family (Aug 2014), I got to go back to the Water Wheel! As usual, it was fan-tabulous; not only for the taste buds, but the wallet, too. We are really surprised the prices aren't higher because the food is high quality and absolutely delicious. By far, it's the best place for breakfast in Milford, hands down. I haven't ever dined there for lunch, but I'm sure it's just as satiating as the breakfast menu. PLUS, it is situated in The Mill, a historical landmark/museum in Milford that houses the Waterwheel, which can be seen through the glass, if you sit inside, near the kitchen entry and bakery counter. What a great place to go! I can't wait to go back again next year during another visit.

I'm from out of town, but felt welcomed after a long flight from California. The food was fresh and delicious, and just what I needed. Can't beat the prices, either! Definitely a local spot worth checking out.

Althought I don't live there anymore, I am originally from the area and have always loved the Water Wheel! I have been there numerous times for breakfast, lunch and dinner and most recently had my rehearsal dinner there in September. Each time I go, the food is outstanding and the service spot on. You can tell the food is homemade and the ingredients are fresh. I would definitly recommend this place to anyone traveling through the area looking to get a taste of Milford.

If you haven't eaten here your missing out on living! This is the real deal on food, fresh food every time, great service, and Darren the owner is always friendly and says hello to his regulars. He gets the idea of shop local, and understands that if you take care of your local community they take care of you. Go anytime and enjoy an amazing meal, the Vietnamese portion of their menu is outstanding don't be afraid to try it, you won't be disappointed.

Stale bagel breakfast this past weekend at Waterwheel. We enjoy this place when we are up at the Lake house on weekends, however, the 'bagel & lox' selection was served with a stale, but toasted bagel. Don't understand how a bagel could be stale at 9 a.m. Friday (6/6/14) unless they were using up leftovers from the week. Would be wary to go back anytime soon, since breakfast for two was $24.00 without tip.

I came here to see a friend at the bar. I loved it. It's set downstairs with stone walls, a fire place, a bar, and some tables to sit at. Standard beers on tap and liquor. The staff were friendly and I had a great time. Def. hope to be back soon.

Went for lunch. The food was decent. I had the garden salad with turkey. It was an ordinary salad with sliced deli-type turkey on top. I give credit for the salad greens including more that just iceberg lettuce. My dressing was really oily and I was glad that I ordered it on the side. I ended up not using it at all. My husband was excited to see some Vietnamese specialties and he is enthralled by the Bahn Mi sandwich. We had never seen this kind of sandwich served on a thick, sesame seed roll before, but it looked good. When he bit in, I knew it was not exactly what he was looking for. The pork was cold, and again, like deli-style cold cuts. He has never had a Bahn Mi with cold meat ever before. Beyond that, the flavor of his sandwich was good. So, our meal was ho-hum. The saving grace for us was dessert. We picked two desserts and shared them with coffee. Yum! There is a great selection to choose from and the staff are happy to describe everything that is in the case. We really enjoyed the dessert!

I was surprised by how spacious it is inside, for such a small cafe. I really hate crowded spaces when you're sitting on top of the table next to you, and I was afraid waterwheel would be like that, but it wasn't. I've eaten here twice - the first time I had a delicious, fresh tuna sandwich and the second time I had the best omelet I've ever eaten. The food is all very fresh and carefully prepared and they have many healthy options. They also do their baking on the premises, so there are lots of fresh bread options (for sandwiches or toast.) They also have lots of delicious, freshly made baked goods for sale. Prices are reasonable and staff is very friendly.

The sign told us it was open at 5pm. We go in and they tell us they open at 5:15. We take a walk and come back to the door locked. We wait a few more and then open up. When we enter we get "greeted" by a bartender that apparently already gave away her last fuck. She won't seat us at a table as she had "reservations" so we say at the bar. She continued to ignore us until we ask if we can order drinks. She gives us a "yeah yeah" then continues to set a table and ignores us. I'd give it a zero rating but the app won't let me. Don't waste your time at this place. Maybe the restaurant is better bit skip the bar. Ride rude rude.

If you are in Milford, You MUST come into Waterwheel and try anything on their menu! When we were considering relocating to this area from suburban NJ, our lunch at the Waterwheel Cafe' convinced us that Milford was the place for us. 10 years later, it's our GO TO place for breakfast, lunch and a nice cozy romantic dinner. Love it!

We ate at the Waterwheel Cafe today. They were busy but not overwhelmingly. The food was very good. My wife got the grilled Ruben sandwich and I got the grilled lemon-herb chicken breast sandwich. Both were top notch. The problem was the service. We were asked to seat ourselves and after the waitress gave us our menus she said she will be right back. Well, she didn't. She walked by us several times as if we weren't her table. We sat for 15 minutes before another waitress noticed we were just sitting there and took our order. Then we waited 20 more minutes before my wife asked her where our order was. It took 5 more minutes before we got it. Whomever is in charge needs to pay attention to this issue. The place would be perfect otherwise.

Two stars. One for the outdoor seating, half for the inspired menu selection from bakery goods to vietnamese food and half for the ambience of dining at a place with a restored water wheel (which you only experience if you know where to look inside the building). The menu was promising, but did not deliver. The service was horrendous being both slow and strangely rude. We waited 15-20 minutes to be seated at a table that was ready when we walked in for our reservation. Our waitress was practically hostile delivering bread to us later than to the table seated after us. Next we watched the same table finish their entrees before we laid eyes on ours. When questioned there was no apology, but rather a defensive statement that we had four people at our table vs the two that sat down after us. Does that mean a table of eight would wait two hours? Is this the new math for restaurants in isolated areas that treat customers like hostages? For such a colorful and varied menu, the food was average at best. The pork chops and appetizer salad were appealing, the fish slightly dry and the filet overcooked and not of good quality. Sadly, this restaurant's success is predicated on being the only game in town. We ordered appetizers, wine, entrees and dessert and received slow and rude service throughout our meal from different servers. If you are stuck there in the area you might get lucky and have a better experience. If you are driving through, I suggest you drive by and on to somewhere else with better food and attitudes. I will not go back.

Oh. God. I live in San Diego now, and after 22 years of living just outside of Milford, I feel like something is missing in my life now that I can't have a french horn every once in awhile. Please buy one, and enjoy its amazing goodness just for me. I love this place. The food is outstanding and the view is gorgeous, inside and out. Set in a restored 19th century water-powered mill, this cafe has glass walls you can view the water rushing over the waterwheel. You can also sit outside and listen to the soothing brook go by. A MUST go for a truly Milford experience.

We ate in the cafe, it was a little tight and drafty (there was a strange cold wind blowing on our legs) but the service was fantastic as was the food. They had a lot of Thai menu items the night we went an I had a duck dish that was one of the best duck dishes I'd ever had.

Ok, we drove here to stay at one of the resorts so I worked up an appetite and needed a nice lunch. I was a bit weary after reading one of the reviews. But the food here hit the spot. I had the grilled chicken without bacon, cheddar cheese & garlic herb mayo sandwich. My boyfriend had turkey breast with roquefort & tomato sandwich. Of course, switching half with him so we both can experience these great tasting sandwiches we were so surprised. We loved the Roquefort with the turkey it had a tangy taste. The waitress was very nice and loved the fact she kept the coffee coming. This historic spot was a great choice.

Waterwheel Cafe is a cute little space. Deep red walls, natural wood tones, and a tiny bouquet of fresh flowers on each table all work to lend a warm, inviting atmosphere. While the cafe does ooze 'country charm', the waitstaff are young and hip enough to prevent it from feeling too hokey. We stopped in for lunch during a recent trip to the Milford area, and enjoyed it so much that we returned twice more! First visit: Lunch I had the Melted Open-Faced Brie Sandwich with Granny Smith Apples & Toasted Almonds. The apples were sliced very thin, and the brie was just the right degree of melty; toasted sliced almonds added a bit of crunch. All sat atop a slice of cinnamon raisin bread. It was a perfect combination of flavors and textures. The side salad which accompanied my sandwich was simple and fresh, served with a bright vinaigrette dressing. My boyfriend had the Brie with Pesto Sauce, Fresh Tomato & Green Leaf Lettuce on Italian Bread. This sandwich was as simple as they come - but every component was super fresh, and the addition of basil pesto made it interesting. Second visit: Breakfast The boyfriend and I shared an onion and cheddar omelette, two croissants, and a short stack of Wholegrain Pancakes. The omelette was perfect - fluffy and light, and chock full of sauteed red onions and gooey cheddar. The home fries that came with it were tasty and nicely seasoned. The croissants were... okay. Just okay. They had a nice buttery flavor, but they were soft and squishy rather than crisp and flaky; I'd wondered if they were from the day before. They did make a nice sandwich, though, when split and filled with cheesy omelette! The only disappointment on this visit were the pancakes, which were spongy and a bit flavorless. We attempted to make up for this by drenching them in syrup - but the syrup was so light that it actually lacked flavor, as well. (I believe they serve pure maple syrup, which is a plus... but unless it's a darker, more flavorful syrup, it's really sort of a waste.) Third visit: Dessert On our last visit, we ordered coffee, a Lemon Bar, and a slice of Salted Caramel Crunch Cake (may not be the exact name, but should be close enough!). The lemon bar wasn't to my liking; it was a bit too dense, and had a metallic aftertaste that I just couldn't get past. The boyfriend liked it, though. I concentrated instead on the cake, with its tender buttery crumb, delicate creamy filling, bits of toffee-like candy crunch, and sticky, gooey, lightly salted caramel topping. This cake was good enough to make you smack your mama, and paired perfectly with a cup of their deliciously bold coffee. All in all, the Waterwheel is serving fresh and tasty food at very reasonable prices, and in a lovely setting. We really enjoyed the place, and will definitely return when we find ourselves back in Milford again.

I called in advance to inquire about a reservation for a Friday night. They were full and could only sit my wife and I at the bar at a table. That sounded okay. I took a reservation for two at the bar. They said the menu was the bar menu however, we could order from the Vietnamese Menu, which we chose to do, as my wife and I love Vietnamese food and that was the main reason we sought this place out. The food overall was quite good. The service while seated at a table was atrocious ... the worse I've had in years. We waited about 15 minutes just to be greeted by a waitress, and given a menu. No one offered to explain any options we might have had, ie: specials if available, etc. The young girl who dropped off the menus didn't even offer to get us a drink. It appeared that she was our "server" but was primarily working in the main restaurant area and was only "curious" about us when she had time. The bartenders who were only 10ft away and had a clear view of us but were too busy chatting with the guests seated at the bar and filling orders for drinks for those servers serving customers seated inside the restaurant. The bottom line: you can get far superior table service by going Chilis, Applebees or even a Pizza Hut. Someone has to really go out of their way for me to stiff them on a tip, especially for a $100 dinner, but they did more than their share of ignoring my wife and I as we sat waiting to be served throughout the evening. If service is even remotely important to you, I would skip this place.

After several years of coming here and always having an enjoyable meal I brought my visiting daughter here for lunch for the first time because I knew it would be good. I was wrong. I don't know what happened but there was sand in the lettuce on her sandwich. Not just a little bit of sand but it was as if someone sprinkled the sand on with a salt shaker. I called the waitress over thinking she would apologize and replace the sandwich, but that was not to be. She merely said, "I'm sorry" and walked away, so I called her back and told her the sandwich was inedible. She looked at me like I had 3 eyes and apologized again and started walking away. I stopped her and restated that the sandwich was inedible so she scooped it off the table and walked away without saying a word. Returning about 15 minutes later (we had all finished our meals by this time) she brought back the same sandwich (bite marks and all) with the same lettuce on it, plopped it down on the table without saying a word and walked away in a huff. It was obvious that it was the same lettuce that was rinsed off and dripping with water and there was still A LOT of sand in the lettuce. It Crunched! Since I had been here often enough I felt pretty foolish praising the place that just served up a disgusting plate of inedible food, not once, but twice. There are very few times in my life that I didn't leave a tip but this was one of them. Will I go back? Maybe, it's still up in the air - what I won't so is recommend this restaurant to anyone any longer which is a shame because the atmosphere is really nice and the building (an old mill) is a fun experience, but the service was lousy and the food was completely inedible. This is just not the way to treat your customers.

We stopped here for lunch on a drive out to Ohio, and it was such a treat! For one, the location is beautiful. We were at one of the seats facing the stream. I had the grilled lemon-herb chicken breast sandwich and my wife had the bánh mì sandwich, and both were very tasty. After eating, we walked through the waterwheel exhibit before heading back out on the road, much refreshed. Way better than I was expecting for anything we were going to stop near the interstate to have. Finding it is a little tricky (thank you Google maps) but well worth it. If you have to get from I-84 to I-80, this is especially convenient, as rather than going through Scranton, you could head south down the state road and go through the national park, and easily connect up with I-80. It's almost the same distance as sticking to the interstates, and it is much prettier, and if you go that way, this restaurant is mere yards off the path. Of course, you can easily make your way back to I-84 instead if you want; it's not far.

Don't get me wrong... their food is ok. It is only the service that I have problem with from start to finish. The staffs is like chickens running around with their heads cutting off. First, no one in the front to take our names down when people were keep walking in. When she finally did, they made a mistake of crossing out our names. And let people after us to sit first (maybe we should have run at that point!). Good thing that a customer noticed and told her ..... Then, we were setting at their patio on a hot summer afternoon waiting for service! Our long-lost young waitress finally came join us after a good 15 minutes ---without water! Later, my husband asked for silverware twice and they never came. .....My side order ham never came. Oh, my cilantro & mint sauce never came with my veggie wrap neither. When I ask her, she was confused. Is dry wrap fashionable these days?

Would not go back. Waited 45 minutes for coffee. The waitress only wanted to talk to the locals. The breakfast came out cold and not how I ordered it . I did hear all about the new earring of a women who comes in ever week. Not worth the wait.

After a day of canoeing with friends on the Delaware (via the recommended Kittatinny Canoes), we needed a good meal. Found this place on Yelp while in Milford, PA. Though fully booked for the evening, the super accommodating staff arranged a six-top for us, and delivered excellent service all evening. The menu features both nouveau American and, surprisingly but not disappointingly, Vietnamese dishes. We ordered a somewhat vast array of options. My hazelnut-crusted pork chops with homemade apple sauce were deeeelicious, as was the beet and endive salad. The scallops my DH ordered were very good, and so was the special Vietnamese soup, although I thought the broth was a little heavy for Vietnamese food. The rest of the table enjoyed their crispy duck salad, crab cake caeser salad, and other dishes, as well as the wine and beer selections. The desserts kicked butt. Lots of focus on carob for some reason, but plenty of chocolate and other sweetness happening too. My cheesecake with strawberry swirl and oreo crumb crust was killer. The chocolate pecan pie elicited moans from the other end of the table. And I had a bite of something else too, can't remember what, that was blindingly delicious. There were no serious missteps, except for the way-too-spicy bloody mary ordered at the over-air conditioned and too-loud-music-playing bar. Stick with the dining rooms, or the outdoor deck. And don't miss the HUGE water wheel operating in the back, along with the rest of the earnest and interesting museum part of the building.

Sunday brunch! Eggs benedict! Thanks to the good people of the Waterwheel, my weekend AM plans are easy. A great place to see & be seen; Milford is full of great NYC Village-types. Artsy fartsy without being pretentious. I love the Waterwheel!

Cafe / Bakery / Bar. This is an interesting place where you would least expect to find it. This review is for breakfast only. They have a cafe / Bakery on the bottom floor and a bar / restaurant upstairs for the evenings. The place is hopping with lots of customers from all of the nearby B&B's. The wait staff is on the money and the breakfast goods are all tasty and fresh - I had some excellent French toast with a side of fruits that was perfect. The building sits on a creek and maybe it was a mill or something at one time or another. While waiting for breakfast to arrive, we checked the menu for dinner and sure enough, there are a lot of Vietnamese dishes there- really something you don't expect to find in Pennsylvania but there it is. We have already made plans to go back to the entire town for shopping and to try this place for dinner.

My- girlfriends and I usually go to Bar Louie but decided to try Waterwheel for a change. A local antique store owner recommended it. We were excited because the food coming out and the bakery items looked so good. The pesto pizza appetizer was delish! So we thought e were in for a great meal. well we weren't! The burgers were lousy--frozen patty's. My friend said hers had "freezer burn." I had a bland stir fry -could,ve made it at home. Overall we were disappointed. We left to get desert somewhere else but that place was closed so hours later we returned to get coffee and desert tyo go. Cookies were Yum! But brownie was YUCK! Overall --not recommended. Next time back to Bar Louie at the Hotel Faucher---way better ambiance too.

Generally very good food, but service, while friendly, is just too haphazard. Go there mostly for breakfast. Rarely do I get a coffee refill. Usually, there is just one waitress and she is working both tables and the pastry counter. If the place is busy, that enhances the likelihood your hot breakfast will be served at room temperature. One nitpicking gripe - They don't know how to line up the curved edge of a half-pan fold-over omelet with the edge of the plate. They just plop it in the middle of a small plate, so the home fries get piled on top of it. Their whole grain pancakes are very good. Despite drawbacks, it is probably still the best breakfast place in town, but that is due in part to lack of options.

Cute place. Vietnamese dishes were good, but pizza was mediocre at best. Would definitely go back, but this says more about the options in the Milford area rather than this being a must-hit place.

This place is a gem. We have become weekly regulars for breakfast. The food is great. I love their whole wheat pancakes. My husband has sampled almost all of their breakfast menu and loves everything. Portions are just right. Coffee tasty and muffins & pastries delicious. Service is first rate. Everything in a quaint setting. Prices are very reasonable.

Sweet little mill restaurant in Milford PA. Cozy den style downstairs w. amazing Vietnamese food (the chef is Vietnamese and has been working there for 18 plus years so this is one of their top cuisines). The spring rolls were amazing, we had to have two orders of this yummmminess. These had the thinnest of the riciest noodle and brothy-sweet-citrus-peppery-dipping sauce. Located right next to a yammering brook and local art strewn all over the walls. Only neg would be the bad lounge style music but I got over it with a second glass of Bordeaux and a two orders of the rolls to go. I have driven two hours to this establishment at peak randomness to curb my addictive cravings. In the Vietnamese language, Waterwheel Vietnamese Spring Roll translates to laced with opium.

The perfect way to trade in 2011 for 2012! We came in for the Prix Fixe New Year's Eve Dinner and are so glad we did. A perfect meal flawlessly executed. We shared all the apps. The shrimp cocktail was safe as it is meant to be. The Lamb stole the whole show... may be the best lamb I've ever had... and I eat a lot of lamb! My duck was perfectly done... sides were simple elegant cooked to perfection. I'm loving this place. It's funny most of the reviews are about breakfast and lunch... which they do very well... but it is dinner time when The Waterwheel really shines. My New Year Resolution is to eat here more in 2012!!

Last stretch of our Chicago to NY road trip (hungry, tired and cranky) we veered off the interstate for a late lunch and boy was I glad we picked The Waterwheel Cafe. Kind, professional service, a large and thoughtfully created menu and peanut butter pie that put smiles on our faces for the rest of the trip.

I think we expected more from this place, but we had a good lunch here while passing through the area. They were busy, even at 3pm on a Saturday, but we were seated right away. The service was speedy and adequate. The menu is interesting and not too expensive. It's a smaller restaurant and we thought the seating was a little cramped. The food was very good, but not spectacular. We had the pizza with goat cheese and an asian pork special. The desserts looked very good in the case up front, but we weren't hungry enough to try anything else. The location is nice along the water, but it was too chilly for us to sit out on the deck. The only complaint we have is that the bathrooms were not very clean and smelled of urine. Definitely check out the water wheel; it's a neat feature!

Love this place! Live I the area (about 15 miles) It is the only place we go for breakfast (worth the drive) have had lunch several times l love the Vietnamese sandwiches. Burgers are dissapointing frozen patties dry and tasteless Dinner is always good but they took my favorite (a1/2 roasted chicken) But fish is fresh and other items are always fresh and tasty. The baked goods are very good the pies are excellent I mean EXCELLENT. This is a great little place!!!

Excellent spot in Milford for lunch or dinner. Nice salads and sandwiches, and good pasta for dinner. And desserts are great, baked on premises. This is the only place you'll find Vietnamese food in a 30 mile radius (if not wider). Don't be afraid. It's good. And be sure to plop yourself in the bar on the other side of the dining area. It's a cozy lodge-like interior with a friendly bartender and good music.

In all the years that I have been coming to Milford (ok, this was my third summer here), I have always passed by, but never stopped in. Oh, this was my lucky summer, for I stopped in not once, not twice, but three times! Thus, one review for all three visits! I know....... The first time I came here, we ended up sitting out on the patio, sipping tea and coffee while gnawing on yummy goodness. We went with the Chocolate Saucy Cake, and it just oozed chocolate love. Really, with a name like this, how can you go wrong? Then, as if that wasn't enough, we sampled the Chocolate Mousse Cup. o.m.g. Chocolate overload is the name of the game. If you have a sweet tooth, I suggest just picking a few items from the dessert case you see when you walk in and sit back and enjoy! Ah, did I mention bottomless cups of coffee? The second time I came here, we went here for lunch. It was a rainy day, therefore, the patio wasn't open, so we sat inside. We had a little bit of a wait, but it wasn't that big of a deal. So many choices, so little time. My friends decided to order an adult beverage from the bar, which by the way, do not skimp on, and I went with a water. I know, so boring. My friend went with the Grilled Marinated Chicken Caesar Salad with Southwestern Croutons. It was a nice little portion for a good price. My other friend went with Melted Open-Faced Brie with Granny Smith Apples & Toasted Almonds. The mix of the apples with the Brie was amazing. Who knew? I went with Roast Beef, Gorgonzola, Red Onion & Lettuce. It was great. Party in my mouth. The third time we came here was for the live music on the weekend. The basement gets a little crowded, so we ended up standing, but the music was great and the drinks were flowing. You also can go check out the water wheel and learn a little history and see the parts as well! I was impress with the all three aspect of this place. Can't wait to go back!

I almost gave this place 4 stars, I really wanted to. The food was solid in a very traditional way, but not original or exciting. But there were other things that dropped the restauant down to 3 stars. The wine list was very lacking, the vast majority of the wines probably retailed for $10 or less. The service was very friendly and attentive, but in that way where they are really really afraid that you're not going to like everything, so they check up on you a LOT. The decor was quite plain, bordering on cheap. Well, actually it WAS cheap. But there is a working mill attached so that is cool. I had the Pho, which was nice. I added my own condiments and really spiced it up. Then I had the lamb, which was cooked to perfection. No complaints about the food, and overall, this place is a good value. Just decent overall.

Built on the site of an old grain mill run by - you guessed it - a waterwheel, it is a nice little cafe with a mix of good sandwiches and unusual Vietnamese dishes. They also have an on-site bakery with pastries that the locals are willing to fight over. In the back, the old water wheel is still working and maintained as a miniature museum of local folklore. A great place for a lunch with friends, with both indoor and outdoor seating.

A friend and I were driving through Milford, PA (from Menlo Park, CA), and happened to stop at the Waterwheel Cafe for a weekend lunch. Excellent choice! Food: We may have overdone it. The main dishes are sufficient on their own. We split: - A sandwich consisting of thinly sliced sweet country ham with melted brie on a freshly toasted homemade brioche roll ($7.25 pre-tax), which came with a side of cole slaw. This sandwich was out-of-this-world delicious. If all of their food were as good as this role, this would be a 5 star experience. As an added bonus, the menu includes a vegetarian analogue of this sandwich (Brie with Pesto Sauce, Fresh Tomato and Lettuce on a Brioche Roll). - The Vietnamese Rice Noodle Salad was principally a bed of rice noodles (with a few vegetables) in a tasty lemon with garlic (and other flavors) sauce, with a generous portion of peanuts (as garnish) on a bed of lettuce. I would probably rate this dish as a 3.5 -- I would have it again, and ask for it to include more cucumbers. - A sandwich with Prosciutto, Goat's Cheese, Roasted Peppers, Sundried Tomatos, and Lettuce on italian bread ($9.25 pre-tax), which came with a side of cole slaw. The cole slaw was simple with a thin dairy coating, and tasty. The ingredients were fresh, and complemented each other well. It was not a sandwich where the flavors merged synergistically. I would also give this a 3.5. - A slice of homemade apple pie. This desert was tasty, but I would have loved a slightly flakier crust. They have an extensive selection of sweets. - A selection of cookies (50 cents each). I tried the chocolate chocolate chip, the chocolate chip, and an oatmeal raisin cookie. The oatmeal raisin cookie had a strong dose of cinnamon, which made it my favorite of this set. They also had a selection of vegan cookies. - Iced tea. Fresh brewed. Atmosphere: Though this restaurant has been open since 1989, it has fresh red paint, and a warm friendly atmosphere. While you're waiting, you can go and look at the rotation of the Waterwheel, which was once used to mill corn (I think). Service: The service was friendly -- we probably waited 10 minutes to be seated, and enjoyed a leisurely lunch.

Oh.

High quality food at a bargain price. Try the Mediterranean sampler. It was outstanding.

Love it!
