High Blood Pressure at Applebee's

Most of the foods served at Applebee's restaurants are high in sodium. Unless you are visiting the restaurant or dining here in the group, there are hardly any options from the main meals if you wish to keep your blood pressure in check. You can rely on a few salad options though. If lucky, you may find low-sodium ribs as well at the restaurant.

Foods to Avoid at Applebee's for High Blood Pressure

Avoid Green Goddess Wedge at Applebee's. Broccoli Cheese Soup and French Onion Soup contain over 1000mg sodium and hence must be skipped as well. Skip all the chicken dishes and seafood at Applebee's except Grilled Chicken Breast and Baked Haddock without sides respectively. A place to take the kiddies. Menu has variety, portions are large, decent food. Started with steamed clams-- butter sauce was tasty, but my husband and I both nearly chipped teeth on the sand and grit... His tortilla soup cup had a thick broth, not what either of us was used to. Perhaps the broth was thickened with beans? The flavor was decent. I had a starter salad-- iceberg lettuce with one slice of cucumber and one cherry tomato, dressing from a bottle. My husband really enjoyed his ribs and brisket. They were flavorful and fairly moist. Ribs were tender. The steak fires on the side soaked up the juices and BBQ sauce nicely. My sirloin steak was well-cooked and seasoned. (It got cold quickly, which always puts a halt to my eating of red meat, but not the fault of the restaurant.) The veggie side was tasty, but clearly pre-packaged. My husband loves mashed potatoes, so he found my side to be tasty. They were a little too rich and smooth for me. We would probably only come back with a group or with the kids. BUT they were open on Monday night- in the winter- in Milford. That was hard to find if you are not looking for a pizza or take-out Chinese.

Loved it here. Good service, good food, nice to walk over to the candy shop afterwards....we left our sons sweatshirt in the restaurant and the waitress knowing where we were going came running out to find us. Between the 3 of us we had a steak, the country fried steak and the kids penne with meatballs plus pot stickers and chicken tenders for the appetizer. Everything was cooked right, tasty and we all walked away full with a smile on our faces. The place itself has been around for a while and that just adds to its charm, overall we found it clean and enjoyable to sit and eat here.

It is a very nice Restaurant (was recommended to us by a local builder). The food is very good and there are plenty of choices. The service was efficient. If you are interested in sports, they show games on TV.

Stopped here with a group of 16 on our way back to NYC from a tubing trip. Initially told that we would be seated as two groups of 8, but were instead seated as 1 group of 8 and two groups of 4. Complained to hostesses, but they insisted that they could not put the two 4-seater tables together bc it would prevent the waitress from getting to the other tables. Absurd. Got the lobster artichoke dip to start, a burger and brisket sandwich. The dip came out with the mains and when I asked why, was told it was because I ordered it at the same time as my mains. Huh? I said TO START. The artichoke dip was way too salty and ultimately, inedible. I was so tired of complaining that I just pushed it aside. The burger was overcooked, but ok. Fries ok. The brisket sandwich was tough. Tried our friends buffalo wings from another table, which were tasty - only decent thing we had during the whole meal. The friends at our table were also unlucky, and did not enjoy their food. Received the bill, with gratuity added and I finally lost my cool. Called the manager over, and he apologized noting that it must have been a mistake. He went back to see why it was added and returned saying it was because we were treated as a party of 16. I explained that we were refused service as a group, and I do not expect to be charged gratuity as a group. He offered to remove it, but I said don't bother. Nearly $100 for inedible food and poor service. Thanks, Apple Valley.

Wings are good, but when there are still 15 people in a dining area, it is probably tacky to start removing the candles from everyone's tables and turning off the Christmas lights in the room? They trying to tell us something? My sister is in the restaurant business, and I know they'd never rush 2 customers out, let alone 15! Waitresses are not the brightest either. Wings are good tho for sure, as is the blooming onion. Can't say I won't go back for that deliciousness.

Came here over the summer with two ladies that I worked with at one of the numerous camps in the area. This was our second choice as our first was closed on a Tuesday (who closes on a Tuesday). We were seated right away, considering it was lunchtime and it wasn't too crowded. Our waitress was really nice and totally took care of us. We started off with calamari. Theirs is batter-dipped, seasoned and cooked to a golden brown, tossed with mild pepperoncini rings and served with a chunky marinara sauce. I love calamari and this really wasn't too bad. I had the California burger, one friend opted for the Crab Cakes, which is served with fries and slaw and the other friend opted for the Baby Back Ribs. Then my friend and I opted for dessert to take back to camp with us. It was a brownie with ice cream, caramel and chocolate syrup. Nothing makes it long evening better! Not bad for being one of the few sit down restaurants in the area.

Sorry, Steve M (owner? representative? of Apple Valley) but writing an argumentative comment about the number of customers you've had or the food you claim to serve isn't doing you any favors in my book. I certainly hope that Apple Valley is better than I remember, but I'm not in Milford any more, so I doubt I'll ever find out.

Menu had a variety of "American" fare options. Portions were large, we were seated quickly and the food was good. They forgot one of my sides...and so did I, until the next day. Service was friendly and quick even on a Friday night. There was a bar area, but it was partitioned apart from the restaurant so it was still family-friendly. Our food was at our table very quickly, so while on a road trip east we were able to stop in, be seated, scarf down our food, and pay within a half hour. It was less "mom and pop" than expected. Prices seemed average ($11 for a large sandwich and steak fries). And my biggest gripe would be as a mostly-vegetarian individual the menu was extremely lacking, although I did not ask whether certain menu items could be converted to vegetarian meals and I did not try to piece together a meal from "sides". There are also a variety of shops right next door to the restaurant that we didn't check out but that might interest others.

Apple Valley has some decent food, but I did find it a little greasy. The service was really good. Our waitress was very friendly and patient with our table. The nachos were okay, but would be even better if there were toppings spread throughout. That would make them much more successful. I had the bacon cheeseburger as my meal. The bun was warm and tasty. I enjoyed the burger, but it was overcooked for what I ordered. The burger is also a very large portion, and I was only able to eat half. I would come back here, but I would try a different entree. The meal was good, but a little middle of the road for me.

Took 45 minutes to be served our main course. This is usual for them. Restaurant was not busy. Waitress pleasant...roast turkey dinner very salty. Portion good. Husband's dinner portion small and very salty. I gave them two stars because of slow food prep, extremely salty food and cost was pricey.

This is one of my favorite local restaurant. Food is always good, portions are good and the prices are fair. The restaurant is clean and the atmosphere is good. I do prefer to not sit in the bar area but that is just my preference I prefer the quieter dining rooms. The reason I didn't give a full five stars is sometimes the servers aren't the friendliest, the service is good usually but the servers seem to be unhappy and give the impression of such. But defiantly visit this restaurant when your in the area!!!

I don't understand the other (rather poor) reviews. I consider myself a rather harsh critic, and I'm giving this place 5 stars (for a 2.5 to 3 star establishment). We stopped here as a final lunch destination while returning from a business trip to Columbus OH. I had the Pike County burger, my wife had a turkey burger, and my son had the Chicken tenders. My burger was great, I think my wife enjoyed her turkey burger, and my son's chicken tenders were great! (not the typical food sercice frozen generic chicken nuggets you get everywhere). They were so good, we took them home in a to-go box and ate them reheated the next day. Service was nice, if a little slow. The stores were nice enough and didn't seem overpriced. I would go here again if passing through. The menus and other historical information on the walls (showing the history of the place as it progressed from a roadside motel to a shopping area to a restuarant) was interesting. The outfitter's shop had some locals who were talking about local fishing and hunting, which is a good sign that the place is authentic (we were there in winter; December 2010) One thing I didn't understand was that one of the signs on the wall in the retaurant indicated that they had fireworks, but I didn't see any in the stores (maybe it is a seasonal thing?).

I considered giving this an extra star because it's my folks' favorite place, but that would be disingenuous and I can't do it. The food is hit or miss. It needs Gordon Ramsey to go over and shout at them for a few days to improve their food and update their look. Hamburgers are sometimes good; sometimes dry and overcooked. Food is fairly greasy, but the locals don't seem to mind. The one thing I've had that I found decent were their ribs. Hopefully it wasn't a one time thing. In my opinion, it is overpriced for the quality. Having said that, my parents moved from NYC to Milford a couple of years ago. This is their favorite place. I think that's partly due to their living nearby. I think Milford needs some more restaurants to provide some healthy competition. There are few options in this town. Wait staff are nice and bathrooms are clean. There.

What I meant by cafeteria food is that it tasted frozen , thawed out and bland . You describe a menu that sounds terrific on paper but both times was with 4 people and no one liked the food . Oh and the hand dusted Calamari , you should let your chef know if you overcook it , calamari turns into rubber bands . If your serving all these meals I dont know how you were able to find time to respond to all these negative reviews . Anyway we liked your place in 2002 , 2003 but like I said gave you 2 chances thinking maybe we were there on a bad night but you struck out both nights ! I didnt go into to many details just that we didnt like it but since you bring it up even the soup was awful , and our salads tasted like the fridge , good luck I am sure you are busy serving all those meals hope the food improves !

Good good, good prices, good service. Sit at the bar for excellent service and friendly conversation. The only thing I'd advise is to steer clear on weekends in the summer because it's super crowded.

I went in the other day and got their special which was chicken scarpiello. A marsala based chicken which was really moist and delicious. Sliced sausage which was pretty decent. The garlic mashed potatoes were ridiculously good and creamy. The one thing that rocked my taste buds tho was the ranch dressing on the salad. Super good. My boo always makes fun of my ranch preferences but I think even she would agree to how good this is. I wanted to buy it from them but didn't want to seem like some weird ranch stalker. The dish came with mixed veggies but ain't nobody got time for that. Definitely a dish I would go back and get and maybe hoarde some ranch to bring home. Are you getting the point yet on how good the ranch was? No? Well I got one thing to say then. Ranch!

Great food! And fast service. My mother and I stopped here on way back from the Poconos. I had the Number 9..which is a grilled smoked turkey and chedder cheese sandwich with thousand island dressing and it came with a side of fries. I also had a half raspberry tea and lemonade mix..it was delicious. I highly recommend this place.

Uninspired food in a dated setting. Bread dry, salad wilted out of a bag, dressing out of a bottle. Could do better at a local supermarket and microwave. Service is good and restroom clean! Pass it up!

There is no other way to say this other than the food was a disaster. I ordered the stuffed fish and it was gritty, chalky, tasteless and chewy. The skin on the fish was tough. The sauce on it tasted like something scraped out of the bottom of a tuna fish can with some mayonnaise and hot-dog relish. The vegetables were obviously canned and soggy and the mashed potatoes may have been instant or old or perhaps both. All I know is that they had a crust over them. My companion's burger was un-sensational. No real flavor (like char-broiled) and the bun was a bun. I'm sure the fries were frozen or processed and lacked any real flavor or distinction. The food did come quickly (I guess it doesn't take long to microwave the fish or side dishes) and the staff was polite but all in all, we're never going back - ever. What a waste of money and time. I'm giving it two stars because 1 is for the staff and 2 is for the nice grounds, so I suggest, park, go to some of the shops but skip the restaurant completely.

My husband and I stopped by passing through on our way home from vacation. I had the Mediterranean chicken wrap have to say it was disgusting. The chicken was rubbery, had to spit it out. Also had the onion straws which had too much batter on them. The only thing that was good was the strawberry mojito. My husband had a burger and he said it was alright. Will not stop by here again.

So here it is I used to visit this place a ton years ago, had a beer mug in their mug club etc.... We stopped going there so often since all the food is so heavy and fried. It's good food vs a tgif or a ruby Tuesday's but those places suck. I wish they had more lighter fair; some different specials time to time that didn't have 1000 calories. If you like classic food like a Cracker Barrel or a diner this is better food trust me, but don't expect anything orgasmic. The best food are the wings in my opinion, I love them well done here. Nice staff, fast service, cheap drinks, a little better than average food.

This review is for ambiance only as I could not eat my food, although I did try it in the car. We came in during a road trip and the place was filled with tacky Easter decorations and families with reservations happily forking down their Easter ham. We were seated in a tiny room. As soon as we were seated, a very large group filled the room with their Easter celebration. I tried to bail to eat at the bar but that is apparently not permitted. For some reason this grossly plastic display of middle American Christianity coupled with service so slow that people have probably died of old age waiting for their meals led me right out to sit in the car and remind myself that I do not eat at restaurants with the words "Olde,"Family," or "Cracker Barrel" in the title. Sigh. Tried my lunch in the car. The coleslaw was white cabbage, white mayonnaise and white sugar, much too sweet. The predominant taste in the Mediterranean wrap was roasted red pepper. The limp pickle needed some Viagra.

Its been years since we ate there. the last time was for $30.00 hamburgers. Yikes it was hamburgers. Last night we stopped in tired from work as a last resort to avoid cooking at home. We shared a blooming onion, it was raw. Husband had cobb salad or more like iceburg lettuce with toppings. I had Bruchetta chicken. nothing fresh except for the balsamic glaze and that was questionable. . . And all for $40.00 Service was terribly slooooow, we were there for nearly two hours!! they made some changes to the decor too, added a few tvs that really classes it up, ok and expected for the bar area not so much the dining areas. I just don't get this place.

Zero stars for today's experience. The 2 stars are because I have been here before and enjoyed my meal and service. I would love to review my experience here today but unfortunately, in spite of the place being dead, I was never seated. When we walked in there was no one at the hostess stand, but there was a "please wait to be seated" sign, so we waited. A waitress looked at us, and walked into what I assume was the kitchen. She walked out, then back in...said nothing to us. Another waitress walked by..looked right at us, and said nothing. We figured since the 2 waitress had both seen is standing there that someone would be right with us. We were now standing there for about 3-4 min (MUCH too long to be waiting when the restaurant was not busy, there was no one else waiting, AND 2 employees had looked right at us) The final straw was when a male employee stuck his head out of the kitchen door, saw us standing there and ducked back into the kitchen before we had a second to say anything. At this time I was too annoyed to even complain, so we walked out.

Service was excellent, but the food was quite bad. There was something about my 12 dollar burger that just tasted off. I couldn't finish it. Dining outside was pleasant, though, and they dealt with my rowdy group of friends pretty well.

Underwhelming. The food was better than some of the diners around town but nothing to write home about. They have your typical menu and I ordered the Chicken Becca which was bland and mostly pasta but edible.

It's a great place to bring your family for dinner. The restaurant is pretty large and has two sections. On one side they have wooden booths and table seating and on the other side of the restaurant there is a full bar which is always busy, plus a semi divider which separates the bar to allow for more tables for diners to sit near the bar with T.V's to watch sports. That is the only place I like to sit. This place is kid friendly and most of the time family's with kids sit on the other side of the restaurant. This place has sort of a dated ski lodge feeling with the dark wood. They offer daily specials written on a chalk board that is dragged to your table and they give you menus. My usual go to food to start is their chicken wings with the sauce on the side which is perfectly deep fried and crunchy on the outside and the meat is still juicy on the inside. Their menu is decent and I've had their burgers and ribs and they were pretty good. It's a good place to go for a very easy and simple dinner with the family.

I have been coming to this place for what seems like a million years. My girlfriend and I both got cheeseburgers. They were great, the prices are fair and they have a very extensive menu too. We always sit on the "pub" side which is nice, they have some tv's over there too. Very pleased with the food as you will be too.

came here with friends after spending a weekend at the poconos as we were heading back home. this place was great for the price and taste. i would have even had a drink as their cocktails looked delicious and beer selection decent..but not while driving. from appetizers down to the main meals, we all were impressed. calamari was fresh and wings were raved about...burgers with curly to sweet potato steak fries were delicious...i myself had crab cakes which was amazing...no lump fake crab meat...it was the real deal!

we used to frequent this favorite spot many years ago. We had an opportunity to stop in for lunch recently. What a wonderful surprise that the food and service are still great after so many years. I had the the BBQ beef brisket sandwich. It was delicious! The beef was shaved paper thin which made it tender. the BBQ sauce was sweet and tangy, But the kicker was the coleslaw that topped the sandwich off. It balanced out the flavors and added a crunchy brightness to my sandwich. My husband had the Guinness battered Fish and Chips. The Fish , I believe Cod, was the biggest filet Id ever seen for a lunch portion. It was perfectly cooked , nice and moist. You could taste the quality of the batter. It was outstanding! Its a 40 minute ride for us, but nothing in Warwick compares. I will certainly start frequenting this old favorite on a regular basis.

Great restaurant great service. We are visiting our daughter from California and saw the restaurant on Yelp. For a small town restaurant everything was done with care and tasted great. We ordered the specials and shared the peanut utter brownie desert. Worth stopping in.

This is a family restaurant with standard american fare. I have been there many times and have never had anything bad. The portions are large and are cooked correctly. That being said, there is nothing to write home about. The atmosphere is nice and homey. Good place to bring your Mom for dinner.

Stopped by here with the family. Very cute. The service was friendly and prompt, and the food was fresh. The kids menu was great and our 4 year old proclaimed the chicken tenders "better than mcdonalds". Definitely worth a stop.

The atmosphere here is nice but that's about it. The food is very bland. Anything with Italian sauce taste like prego. Everything they serve seems to be prepackaged and previously frozen. I know this because I have celiac disease and have to inquire about ingredients. They never know until the "read the bag"! They did have a wonderful deep dish Apple pie but the last few times I ordered it the crust topping was burnt or overcooked. They had a few decent items on the bar menu but took them off. One being the shrimp jammers. When they have specials in the dining area where the bar is located, they won't let you bring your children over there with you. I guess they don't want the kids to eat their 25 cent wings if they are not ordering alcohol to wash them down. The wait staff is rarely friendly. The manager is always walking around and he will come to your table and ask you how everything is but when you tell him it's terrible he apologizes or makes an excuse and walks away. He's been doing this for the 10 years I have lived here, at least. There used to be only 2 places to eat in Milford. Luckily we found The Grotto. Less then a mile away and the food is terrific!! Excellent service and great prices. Did not care for when first opened a few years ago but it has done a complete turn around. They really treat you well. Food and prices are terrific. Just bring your own wine

Try it! I loved it here ... my husband and I stopped by accident on our bike trip from upstate NY. The food was delicious ... the way they served it was awesome too it looked like a gourmet 5 star meal. Service was very good as well. The atmosphere was super cool ... it was a really nice day so we sat on the patio! There is some cute little stores around as well. Will definitely go back!

the turkey in the turkey dinnner tasted like cheap processed turkey from Walmart, prices were high, food really sucked, can't understand the draw of this joint. Fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice, shame on me. Will never go back.

I'm sorry that the first reviewer had a bad experience with the food. If you are looking for a family restaurant without going to a chain restaurant (such as Friendlys or Perkins), this is the place to go. The soups are good - I like the New England. Great chicken fingers and honey mustard sauce. I heard the wings are good, but I cannot review those at this time. I've had sandwiches there that were good too. Again - family style meals - nothing fancy. Nice fo a local restaurant if you are passing by or visiting for the weekend without hurting the wallet. applevalleyrestaurant.com

Came for lunch with a group of 10. Great service by Sarah. We ordered items from wraps to salads to pasta. The food was good. You'll pay a little more than say a diner to eat here, especially for desserts. I wasn't wowed and wouldn't go out of my way but all in all it was fine if you're in the mood something other than a diner for a change.

Solid diner-type food in a family-run setting. Big portions, not elegant, but perfectly fine if you want to take the kids out. Can get crowded on weekends, but things seem to run well, and the wait staff is always friendly.

I've been here several times when visiting family in the area. It is traditional, east coast "American cuisine". They have a large menu with salads, apps, burgers, pastas, fish, chicken entrees, etc. I like it because my sister-in-law and I are vegetarian and there are several options (salads, portobello burger, black bean burger, vegi chili) for us. The salads are nothing special but at least they have them. And there is plenty for the carnivores too. This time I had a small salad and nachos. Both were decent, nothing extraordinary. I would have liked more pico de gallo instead of from the jar salsa. Others had black bean and portobello burger and a traditional beef burger. All seemed pleased and a few substituted for sweet potato fries. Service has always been swift and friendly with generous portions.

Good destination for casual dining, lunch and dinner. Good selection of beers. Some side dishes/seasonings aren't the best quality (vegetables, gravy). Bar section can be noisy, watch out for special requests for terrible music.

We went as a group of 7 on Sunday afternoon. We ordered burgers, baby back ribs, brisket sandwich, quesadilla, and a chicken entree. I can speak of a burger because it's what I ordered. This is the second time I've had a burger here and it was delicious both times. I ordered medium and it was pink and juicy. My boyfriends was the same. We waited awhile for the food and at one point he looked over at me and said "our burgers will be overcooked", but I'll say it again they were excellent. The ribs got good reviews. The brisket sandwich was piled high and very good. The entree was enjoyed as well. This is where we will be coming when we want a burger. Not too many places in the area know what medium means, but Apple Valley does!

I've eaten at Apple Valley a few times, mostly because I was perusing the shops or feeding the ducks at the pond and got hungry. The menu is large (larger than it needs to be) and the food is so-so. We waited forever for our drinks and food and the restaurant seemed to be empty. I understand when you dine out off peak hours it may take a bit of time to get the ball rolling, but this was a bit ridiculous. The worst part is, I'm sure I'll eat there again.

This place sucked to say the least. The service was down right terrible. We ordered appetizers and the waitress forgot to put the order in for them. Dinner came out and I said something about the appetizers and she laughed and said she forgot and could put the order in so we could have appetizers after dinner. I told he that was dumb and not to bother. The salads we got both had ranch dressing on them when we ordered other dressings for the salad. After flagging the waitress down we were able to get another round of drinks, but our empty glasses sat at the edge of the table until I paid the bill. No one ever came over during dinner to see how the meal was and to see if we needed another round of drinks, which we did. I wouldn't recommend this place to my worse enemy, service was appalling and the food wasn't anything great. I consider myself a pretty harsh critic and pretty knowledgeable about food, I travel a lot and have eaten at many top restaurants threw out the united states. I wasn't expecting much out of this place, but I have gotten better food and service at fast food establishments. Please save your money and choose to dine somewhere else!

I wasn't expecting a whole lot, so I guess there shouldn't have been a lot of room for disappointment. The decor was what you'd probably expect for this part of PA - cabin-like can best describe it. The food took forever and all we ordered were burgers. Once my burger came out though, it tasted delicious. But the incredibly long wait seemed unnecessary, especially as the place wasn't even packed.

At first, the restaurant was named T.J. Applebee's RX for Edibles and Elixirs. After the concept was acquired by W.R.
