Call ahead for pick up. The food is delicious and so satisfying. My fav are the tacos. Yum.

This place tastes exactly the same as the Conshy location, with maybe a few more tables. Service was fast and everything was awesome. I swear by the quesadilla, others love the steak tacos. The chips with guac and salsa was all legit. Whatever you order, it will be authentic Southwestern style Mexican food. PRO TIP there is a parking lot in the back with metered parking.

Tacos al Pastor - I dream of you... They are slowly improving the dining area - but still needs work. meanwhile, for $2.50 a pop I get tacos al pastor - the REAL DEAL and a luscious side of guac (also $2.50). Pico de gallo here is fresh - but super spicy with jalapeno chunks and raw onion - so bring breath mints. Horchata is also great. LOVE IT HERE. Please open one in Media/Aston!!!

I am a huge fan of the Ambler location (I used to live near there), but recently moved to Malvern and wanted to find the local El Limon ASAP. Unfortunately, this location is a total hell hole. The restaurant itself is hard to find - tucked in the back of a small strip mall next to a Mexican grocer. Inside, it is pretty filthy, and there is no division between the kitchen and seating area (complete with large trash cans right near customer tables). The servers are friendly, but clearly too busy when it's crowded. Also, ***the power went out while we were there*** and no one really seemed that surprised or concerned as we sat for well over 5 minutes while they continued to cook in the dark (apparently the grill was still warm?). However, as much as I can complain about the atmosphere, they make WONDERFUL Mexican food. I go with 3 chorizo tacos (supreme-style) with rice and beans on the side. Fantastic. Unfortunately, they really need to clean the place up to get anything higher than two stars from me.

I almost don't want to tell you about this little hole in the wall lest it get too popular. As with many excellent small eateries, it's not about ambience. You will have good food at a good price and leave happy. It doesn't get much better than that. I got an enchilada plate which I happily devoured, and tamales to go for breakfast - one was a meal!!! music was pure Mexicana emanating from a cell phone in a bowl - it was perfect! Really Really Tasty Food. Great salsas. Small, clean, friendly, quick. BYO and don't let the lack of froufrou accoutrements turn you away.

I've been here enough times (What's up #3 in Check-ins) that I figured I should finally write a review. The only thing that I regret about going here is that it took me 5 go-rounds until I discovered their tamales. Their pork tamales are in a class of their own. It's tough to even find legit tamales at a lot of mexican establishments, but these are the best. El Burrito in Phoenixville are close, but not quite. The tacos are fantastic. Their pork tacos are a different shade of juicy. I rate many mexican restaurants based on the quality of their chorizo, and these are great. The al pastor tacos offer a bit of sweet and spicy if you're into that scene. The tacos are loaded up too, so I like to split the contents between the 2 corn tortillas. That way when I get 2 tamales and 2 tacos, it's like I really have 2 tamales and 4 tacos. You're welcome. Their salsas are serious kick, and the guacamole is chunky and delicious! I've been to the Ambler location, not quite as much of a fan as the Malvern spot. I hear they're opening a 2nd location in Conshy with a bar, which I'm sure is a great business decision on their part. Love it, authentic mexican food, very friendly staff, plus the mexican grocery spot next door!

So last time I was here, they were El Jalapeño. Time to try them under the new name. It's not even a question anymore. I've tried all of the local Mexican competition and I feel I can say this unequivocally. This is the absolute best Mexican food in this immediate area. Period. Three tacos later, one Tinga, one Al Pastor, and one Carnitas, and I feel like I had the perfect meal. Each one was a flavor bomb. The Carnitas were the mildest flavored of the three, but they were incredibly juicy, and took well to the salsa as the perfect complement. A side of rice and beans was also perfectly flavored. No they don't have a lot of space or tables. Chances are you might have to wait for a table or get it to go. But the food is worth that hassle. Take the fact that they are crowded as a good sign. The nearby Mexican competition is good in their own right. But here is greatness. No question whatsoever.

Coming from Arizona, I am used to an over abundance of good taco and burrito shops. When I moved to PA 3 years ago, I was sorely disappointed with the lack of taco and burrito shops. I was beginning to give up hope until a colleague told me of this place. After the first bite I knew I finally found not just a decent taco shop, but an incredible one. This place is hands down the best taco and burrito shop in the state. I could not have been more impressed. I highly recommend this place! Also, get some al pastor and carne asada tacos, you won't be disappointed. They even serve them authentic with only cilantro and onions on top, and in two corn tortillas! Their salsa is also very good and very hot!

SO DELICIOUS!! I was a little hesitant because of the location and size of the place, but don't be fooled!! Both service and food were great! I had the shrimp tacos and all three were LOADED with shrimp! My sister had the salad with chicken and it was great as well, particularly the chipotle dressing. I would definitely recommend El Limon to anyone looking for some great authentic Mexican food!

Amazing cheap Mexican BYOB restaurant! I came here with some friends on a Tuesday night for the first time. Place is fairly small and very low-key and is attached to a little supermarket. It's family operated, which makes it even more authentic. I shared nachos to start and then had three tacos: chicken, beef, and the mexican sausage one. I wanted to try the beef tongue but unfortunately, they ran out of that for the day. Each taco had a distinctively different flavor while still being equally delicious! I added the home made spicy sauce on top, which was spicy. The waitress did warn us that that day's sauce was a bit spicier than usual, but I love spicy foods so it was a great addition to the tacos! Overall, so yummy and I will definitely be back, and bringing along my husband who loves spicy Mexican too. Prices are extremely fair, which make me love this place even more!

Came here on my lunch break and got the quesadilla. My girlfriend and I are on break right now. She used to help me write these reviews. Here comes the tears. What is happening to me?

When it comes to Mexican, it's Chipotle and Doritos Tacos for me. But my pal Steve said I had to go to the best in the area. It doesn't look like much from the outside (or the inside, necessarily) but the food and service were fantastic. I hear it gets crowded for lunch, and it was -- and for good reason. I had 2 tacos: chicken and carnitas. The chicken was ridiculously good by itself. Throw in the supreme, and it was magical. But I'm glad I saved the carnitas for last. It was so good, I almost cried. I can't exactly place it, but the pork had some kind of maple syrup taste to it. Again, throw it the supreme (no lettuce, of course), and there's the tears. I'll definitely be going back soon to try some other meals!

So good, so cheap. Authentic Mexican at its finest! Not much else to say except come hungry and try the nachos. Oh yeah, fast and friendly service!

This appears to be their newest location. I have been to the Conshy and the Ambler ones, but this is my first time at the Malvern location, and it does not disappoint. The restaurant is located in the very back of the shopping complex where Ciabatta Pizza is located. It doesn't look like much, but the food is amazing, so totally worth the momentary creepy feeling you get driving through the dimly lit parking lot to get there. I highly recommend the tacos, probably the best bang for your buck, but really, everything on the menu is good so you can't go wrong. As an added bonus, but it's a temporary bonus, I'm sure, I went at around 7pm for dinner, and unlike the Conshy and Ambler locations, where it's always packed at that time, this location was relatively empty, so we were able to enjoy the meal in a quiet setting. However, I'm sure this will not last long. Once the word gets out, this place is bound to get packed, and it's not very big, so get in and enjoy the peace and quiet while you can!

Fresh Tacos! This is the best lunch spot in the malvern area. Take out is perfect as long as you can get through the ordering process (not all of us are fluent in spanish.) Pros: Guacamole has some kick! yes and thank you Street style tacos are delish and can be upgraded for supreme if you need fixings more than epic amounts of cilantro and onion. HORCHATA- Home made by my taste buds last time I was in. I hope they didn't switch up to powdery nonsense. Cons: None? Its a coin toss for me when I'm in the area to get tacos here or hit Mi Pais for empanadas. Either option leaves me satisfied.

Food is great! Got 3 very filling steak tacos on cinco de mayo for $7.95. Wait times are long and the staff and facilities are not meant to handle large volume. Best to go during off peak times - whenever that is? Went again on a Wednesday night around 8p and the cycle times were much better; it was probably the Cinco de Mayo rush. Got the fish tacos for $11 and after eating all of them, decided I like the steak better. Get the steak. Always get the steak.

We WILL be back! I usually end my 5 star reviews with that sentiment but I figured I'd just get it out of the way early- because it's THAT good! I had the sopes tinga, which was incredibly tender chicken on top of a corn cake. Extremely flavorful and fulfilling. I also had a asada taco. The steak was well done but still not tough and the homemade corn tortillas didn't crack when folded- like some I've had in the past. Where the meal gets even better is the alambre! My fiancé ordered it after reading the description on the menu- meat with peppers, onions, bacon and cheese. Ok! He went with the mixto which was chicken and beef. We both agreed that he "won" in the menu choice. It was salty, spiced, and decedent without being heavy. It was literally one of the best things I've tasted in a long time- something not to take lightly. This place is tougher to find and a little rough around the edges- which makes it's even cooler. We have found our new Mexican restaurant and I couldn't be happier!

Pretty good, authentic Mexican food! I had the shrimp quesadillas and my boyfriend has a steak taco and a shrimp taco with rice and beans. We also shared chips with salsa and gauc. Everything was very good and priced well.

Great little place!!!! Used to live in California so miss this kind of Mexican food. Had the Carnitas burrito with guacamole as well as an Al Pastor and a Carnitas taco. All were very authentic and tasted fantastic!! We had just a bit of a language barrier on our order, but it was quickly corrected . We had a side order of just refried beans that were just okay, hence only four stars. We will be back soon for more of this great food.

El Limon is probably the best local authentic Mexican restaurant in the area. All the tacos that I tried are good. They now have a soda machine so you don't have to go to the Mexican store next door to buy drinks. Service is good and quick. The place seems to have become more popular so it can get packed during lunch time on weekdays. The place isn't that big so it can be get cramp inside.

Great, authentic Mexican food. My boyfriend claims to not like Mexican food...but that's only because he's never eaten anything this authentic. He likes Mexican food now! We had tacos, tostados, and sopes with carnitas, tinga, and el pastor. Salsa, guacamole and chip were good. We'll definitely be back. I almost gave a 4* review because their heat wasn't working and it was single digits outside and pretty cold inside. Hopefully the heat will be fixed soon. We ate dinner with our coats on!

Great hole in the wall restaurant, I got my order of 3 tacos really quickly and they were really good. I really enjoyed the hot sauce, it wasn't watered down and had a really good spicy taste; with the right amount of heat.

Really great food and people. Super small casual atmosphere connected to a small grocery store. Lunch time during the week is madness but they still keep the orders moving fast. We tried almost everything on the menu And even had catering. Highly recommended and come back frequently. Try the sopes if you've never had them before. Tongue taco is really tasty too. Tamales are soft and fresh. The salsas are super spicy and really good ok everything. Was allowed to try both red and green sauce on a burrito once. The second time I asked she said no...guess it depends on who is taking ur order. Still fantastic either way.

Visiting from SoCal so we definitely have a palette for Mexican food and this place scored very high! Extremely authentic in every way. Location: Hardish to find because it is way in the back of a parking lot in a strip mall and it looks sketchy from the outside because of it but don't let that stop you. Ambiance: I have to disagree with people who say it lacks environment. For what it is...it's awesome. Hand written menu on the wall, images of the Virgin Mary, and Mexican music in the background. The lack of decor actually works FOR this place because if you've never been to Mexico...THIS is very typical. Staff: Super friendly and helpful. The guy forgot our order of rice but so did we because the food we got tasted so good so we didn't care. They also offered us free Margaritas which was cool. Food: Very well priced and large portions. We ordered five tacos, with various meats including Barbacoa (which was by far our favorite), Tinga (second favorite), Asada, El Pastor, and Carnitas. All good! Chips with fresh Guacamole and we mixed the hot sauce into the pico de gallo that came with the chips. Both hot sauces provided were awesome. Red is hotter than the green. I wish we were staying in the area longer because this place rocked it and I would love to go back again. Our total bill was under $20.

Simply the best Mexican in the area. The lengua tacos, tinga tacos, nachos, sandwiches all very good. The prices are great and people very friendly. I have probably eaten here @ 10 times in the past 4-5 months. Be sure to check out the little market that is attached.

I loved the tingo chicken burrito. Chips and salsa were also good. First time i tried Horchata drink, very tasty like a rice pudding taste. Authentic as it gets with what seems like the whole family working there.

Been several times, this place is growing on me. The owners keep stepping it up and making subtle improvements like better furniture and service. My one complaint is that there are no drinks available on the restaurant side. If you want something as simple as water, you have to go to the shop next door (but connected) and buy a bottle of water. The food is authentic and tasty.

Nothing I can say will be much different than what others have added. Ridiculously good food, very casual atmosphere (don't be scared by the unassuming location ). Staff is very friendly and tolerant of us 'gringos '. Prices are incredibly reasonable and the selection is huge. Great place, worth waiting if crowded which it probably will be. I'll be back as long as they'll allow me.

Best Mexican in town. My fiancé was in the mood for some Mexican food and discover it on Yelp. I've driven by this place millions of times and never new what a gem this place really was. As you walk in there are two stores. The one to the left and a small little market and the door on the right is the restaurant. When you walk in there isn't a lot of seating. Once we order our food we looked around and saw what other customers ordered and wow. Everything that came out of that kitchen looks incredible. I had the Alambre mixto. Beef and chicken grilled up and mixed with green peppers, onions, and bacon. This plate was amazing and the portions are large so come hungry. The staff was very nice and the prices are very reasonable. Can't wait to go back.

It's excellent. Had 1 tinga(chicken), 1 al pastor & 1 carnitas taco w/jalapeno. Each one had a very distinct, and delicious, taste. Sometimes the seasonings from one taco meat to another taste the same to me... not here. Definitely the best I've had in our area and beyond.

UPDATE: These guys have changed their name from El Jalapeno - same place, same great food, new / old name. I can forgive their identity issues because of their delicious food issues! This is my review copied from El Jalapeno: This is a fantastic spot for mexican food. It went beyond "authentic" - this is home made food, served fast and at a great price. I was here for lunch just the other day and left full of some of the best mexican food I've ever had - I can't wait to go back. The ordering was a little awkward as you have to go into the attached grocery store to grab a drink (and pay for it there) but the staff on hand was very helpful. Really it didn't bother me though it can be improved. What did bother me, just a bit, was the seating - it needs work. The place is new and the food is amazing so I'll stand if I have to. Simply put, go here.

Finally a great local and authentic taco joint that serves a great variety of fresh tacos. Fast and friendly service. Great lunch spot. I had the asada, lengua, and chicken. Two great salsas on the side.

This is the best Mexican place I've been to around here that's not in South Philly. The burbs are full of boring and bland Mexican restaurants, but this one is authentic. The mole is awesome, rich, flavorful and comes with a good kick. I love the al pastor, whether it's on a taco or in enchiladas. Everything we've had here has been very good, and I always look forward to coming here.

Real Mexicans making really good Mexican food. I had the chicken and beef burrito. Very tasty. I went for the first time with coworkers and it was packed. Only about 7-8 four seater tables. The staff was friendly, the service was polite and quick. I strongly recommend grabbing a bite here.

Great tasting and fresh Mexican food! Friendly and helpful service. Nothing is more comforting (to me at least) than the soft sound of sizzling food and clanging pots and pans while savouring a meal and having a quiet conversation with your loved one. We had the Al Pastor Nachos (pork and chorizo) and if she asks (with everything on it, just say YES! And hubbykins had the tongue Buririto, ooooweeeee! it's melt in your mouth! The dishes were well balanced, it's not smothered with sour cream nor cheese. So even if you break your portion controlled diet, you won't get this greasy feel when you finish the plate because, it's so good to the last bite! The ambiance is great if you are not into a frou-frou resturant mode. There is no separation between the kitchen and the dining area, so expect to smell like food if you dine in. There were several take out/ pick up customers while we were there. There are seats facing the kitchen so you can watch while they create the delectable food for you.

Went here for lunch one day with my fiance a few weeks ago. We wanted to dine in but were told that we could not sit down since there were only two of us. There were three 2 seated tables put together to seat six. A little annoyed, we said we would take our food to go. Just about when we were getting our food packaged up another couple walks in and sits down at the table. The waitress went over to them and after a brief discussion they pulled the tables apart and allowed the couple to sit alone. It was clear that the couple did not reserve the table but just sat down at it instead of asking to be seated. And the staff allowed them to do so but we were turned away when we asked to be seated. Food was good. We both had giant burritos. But the service could improve.

We tried El Limon because of the great reviews here and we were not disappointed. The place is next to a Mexican grocery store, which I can only assume is the same owners. The dining area is small and not fancy or anything but its clean. The wait staff are super friendly and were attentive to us. We started out with Guacamole, salsa, and chips. The guac was very good and salsa was as well. I had 3 chicken enchiladas with mole sauce. They were excellent. Chicken was cooked perfectly and the mole sauce was sweet and spicy. My girlfriend thought the mole sauce tasted too much like cinnamon, but I still liked it. She had 2 tacos and a quesadilla. She enjoyed her food as well. We both had leftovers and ate them the next day. The prices are super reasonable and for a quick local take out place, El Limon is a winner.

Great place for some real mexican food. I am not a expert however the 2.50 per tacos are worth visiting. They stack it on for one taco is worth the visit. I would say it beats my experience at more pricy mexica restaurant in the city.

Absolutely love this place! I came across this place on yelp and thought I would give it a try. I've lived in this area practically my whole life and have never heard of it. It's a very simple and inexpensive restaurant. Everything on the menu is very authentic and just so cheap!! I ordered the nacho, tortas and a taco and everything was amazing! The service was also very good and the lady working was friendly despite her not knowing much English. Thankfully I was able to speak to her in spanish which made it an even better experience.

Reasonable, delicious, authentic! Love this place! I love mexican food and I was so happy to find this place hidden in the back of this shopping center

Grew up in TX and miss "real" Mexican food. This comes pretty close. Everything we have had there is delicious and large portions.

We were looking for a place to eat off route 30 on our way to NJ...were in the mood for Mexican, so picked El Jalapeño/El Limon based on the Yelp reviews/ratings. And we were not disappointed!! We tried the tortilla chips with guacamole and pico di gallo, Carnitas and chorizo tacos, chorizo and chicken quesadillas and veggie fajitas. All the non-veg items were superb...fresh and bursting with flavor! Pico Di Gallo and Guacamole were really fresh and delicious!! Compared to the non-veg items, the vegetarian fajitas were not as flavorful, but still pretty good. Overall, we were very happy to have found this eatery, especially after seeing the (small) bill LOL We are all about flavor when eating out, and that is present in the food at this tiny, unassuming little hole-in-the-wall to the fullest, so this would have been our go-to place for Mexican had we been local... But if you value ambience while eating out, this place is not for you.

I've tried this place several times over the past few months and I must say it's the best Mexican food I've had since moving to PA 7 years ago. It is fresh, flavorful, good portions and best if all reasonably priced. For a taqueria, I have no complaints About the ambiance. It is neat & clean. It's my new favorite for Mexican.

Delicious. We tried the burritos (a carnitas with vegetables, and one with rice and beans) - they were fresh, tasty, and as authentic as you can get for this area. Highly recommend the bright and piquant tomatillo sauce. Portion sizes are ample - a burrito feeds two, especially if you add a side of guacamole and chips. Brought home their hot sauce, which works on just about anything, and two kinds of queso fresco. Can't wait to go back.

A true hole in the wall - and great! Several years ago I moved here from Atlanta - a place with a huge Hispanic population and a proportionately huge number of taquerias. This is as good as the local places there. Fantastic. I can't wait to go back.

I love restaurants that you underestimate. If dining at a restaurant four times in one week isn't enough of an endorsement, El Limon uses the freshest ingredients but more importantly it's the spices. Plus, the little market next door has the spices for sale at almost free prices! You must dine here ASAP!

This place has been awesome...until today. I try something new every time, but I was in the mood for chicken quesadillas. They used to have huge chunks of fresh chicken and cheese with a great salsa on the side. Today, they were made with shredded chicken with a sauce mixed in. Not good at all...seemed like there was a new staff in the kitchen today. I'll definitely try again and hope it's back to normal

My girlfriend and I are taco snobs. So we make it an point to visit every taco place. This place has one of the best carnitas and al pastor tacos anywhere. They were also generous with the tacos at 2.50 each. So worth it.

So great!!! Yes, it's the same family ownership as the El Limon in Conshohocken. I hope they have more of them planned. This is Mexican food on the same level as you can get in California!

This place is on route 30 before sproul road, tucked away behind the Ciabatta's near Crossfit. I can't tell if the offical name is 'El Jalapeno' or 'El Limon' but either way the food is fantastic. I've only had their veggie burrito on muplite occassions but it is very good, and the price point is perfect. This is a hole in the wall spot you'd never guess would be in Malvern. I noticed one of the previous reviews rating this place low because of their fautly online ordering system. I can't believe someone would think online ordering would work for this place, its hard to find a menu even listed online! This is not a tex-mex chain, stick to other burrito places if you want a fancy ordering process for lesser quality food. The food here is seasoned great, prepared fast, fresh to order and priced well. I also think the burritos are huge (and smothered!). The decor leaves a lot to be desired, if your looking for a sit down family meal however, this doesn't stop me from visiting at all, I also like to look around and get things from the connecting marketplace while I wait for my food. This is simple, no frills mexican food. I have no issue communicating with any of the staff, they accept credit/debit cards and have never messed up my 5-6 orders. Thats more than I can say about most other local places.

Pretty good, authentic Mexican food! I had the shrimp quesadillas and my boyfriend has a steak taco and a shrimp taco with rice and beans. We also shared chips with salsa and gauc. Everything was very good and priced well.

Went here for lunch the other day and got the al pastor burrito. We got nachos for the table which I do not recommend. I would go back to try the torta.

Excellent, very authentic Mexican food. In the back of a hard to find shopping center so make sure you research where it is before going.

Great hole in the wall restaurant, I got my order of 3 tacos really quickly and they were really good. I really enjoyed the hot sauce, it wasn't watered down and had a really good spicy taste; with the right amount of heat.

Best mexican food around. My favorite is the enchiladas with verde/tomatillo sauce. The tacos are also excellent. Also try their other location in Conshohocken.

Excellent, authentic tacos, reasonably priced. Delicious, homemade tamarindo. My friend from California tells me this is the best taqueria he's seen in PA, and I believe him. DELICIOSO!

Best Mexican around, just like the Conshy location! Fresh, simple food is the way they do it. Nothing fancy about this place but you'll leave satisfied!

I have told my whole family about this place and my friends telling them to go! I can't wait until I'm home so I can go back here!

Real Mexicans making really good Mexican food. I had the chicken and beef burrito. Very tasty. I went for the first time with coworkers and it was packed. Only about 7-8 four seater tables. The staff was friendly, the service was polite and quick. I strongly recommend grabbing a bite here.

  • Lauren B.

I love restaurants that you underestimate. If dining at a restaurant four times in one week isn't enough of an endorsement, El Limon uses the freshest ingredients but more importantly it's the spices. Plus, the little market next door has the spices for sale at almost free prices! You must dine here ASAP!

Just drove there at 1:15 PM on a Friday solely for an Al Pastor torta. When I tried to order, the man at the register informed me that they had no bread. Really?

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
