This place has the BEST beers anywhere in central PA. The depth of flavor and innovative combinations is what keeps us coming back again and again. I rave to my friends and co-workers about the Mango IPA and the Braiinnns Pumpkin Ale is to die for. The Taproom has a pretty great variety and always rotating flavors so there is something for everyone. All of the employees are very friendly and the atmosphere is fun. I am a fan!

Great location, great beer - super chill vibe. Highly recommend if you are in the Lancaster area. The chocolate stout is devine.

Excellent brews - the Beyond The Gates DIPA is incredible, and we'll worth the drive. Cheers.

The beer was fantastic. I tried the chocolate stout and one of the Belgium beers. Chicken wings were really good but mild still has a bite. A tad loud inside but they do have seating on side walk outside. We will definitely be back.

We didn't have the food, but beers were great. Sampler of the 5 on tap for about $6.50. Nice clean place near the Central Market. Our kids sat with us during the day without a problem.

Only had one beer, the chocolate peanut butter stout. I really enjoyed the beer, it tasted extremely fresh too. The staff were very friendly, busier than I expected at 2:00 in the afternoon but still had plenty of seating. Since I couldn't find prices anywhere online, it was $5.75 for a glass of the chocolate peanut butter stout, not cheap, but certainly not a rip off after you taste how good it is. I don't know for sure, but it seemed to be non-smoking too, a big plus for me. I really liked the space it was in, big glass windows facing the street allowing for plenty of light coming in.

I used to visit these guys down at the Spring House Brewery in Conestoga, before the Taproom opened, and really enjoyed being able to fill up a growler of Seven Gates while sampling their newest frankenstout creation. It was exciting, then, to see these locals taking a chance and opening the Taproom, as they are clearly passionate about their craft. The inside of the place is homey, as the local Two Dudes Painting did an awesome job stenciling some sweet artwork all around the walls and ceilings. As for food at the Taproom, go with the mac & cheese and chicken wings. The wings are baked and crispy, and the sauce is served on the side. This is convenient, because I like to drink as much beer as possible while eating these tasty morsels and, by keeping my hands free of hot sauce and old bay, I'm more able to keep a grip on my beer glass. The crab bisque is also decent, but the rest of the food is not worth the risk of diluting your flavorful drink. Oh, and one of the only shuffleboards in Lancaster city provides a good night with friends and family. If you appreciate small businesses, big flavors and the local community of Lancaster, give the Taproom a try next time you're out in center city.

I have to say before hand that I am a huge fan of the products, some really truly amazing beers. This was only my second trip to the taproom itself. It was a Sunday evening and it was not that crowded. I was at he bar with a few friends and had one pint of Seven Gates, my favorite. After that it seemed as though the last thing in the world that the staff behind the bar wanted to do was give me a second beer. One of my friends had a similar experience upon entering. He could not get anyone's attention to secure a drink for quite sometime. The woman behind the bar even swept past and took my empty glass without saying a word. I have to say it was kind of surreal and disconcerting. We actually left because of this odd situation and went someplace else.

Beer is awesome here... A great place. The only thing we DON'T like is that their menu changed, now that Carr's is no longer cooking for them. If you are vegetarian, don't eat there. Hot dogs are not my preference when enjoying one or two of their crafted beers. Go for the beer, NOT the food.

A gem in Lancaster City; along with the great beer, the staff is a great group - Greg and Kyle are always very pleasant and make you feel you are appreciated.

The stellar tradition started in the barn at Springhouse Brewing Company in Conestoga, PA comes to downtown Lancaster. The craft brew beer served is original and really very good. We've never had a bad beer from Springhouse. The Taproom is more beer drinking place then restaurant although they do offer light fare. I haven't had the food so I can't review it. They do growler fills so you can take some of this delicious brew home with you. They also have a shuffleboard, which is lots of fun.

Love the beer. While I'm not a fan of weird flavors, the normal brews are great. Had a tasty French dip beef sandwich one time and good chili with cheese and onion another. Knowledgeable bartender sometimes becomes overwhelmed by surges of customers.

Really enjoyed this place. The beer was good, the crowd was a great mix of people and the staff interesting. I would rate this among one of my favorites and unexpectedly so. Did not try the food.

Unfortunately, the bartenders here are among either the dumbest or the rudest people on earth. We came here, with our dog, to sit outside. The bartender told us we could sit either right out front or in front of the cigar bar next door. They said both places are the same owners. DO NOT listen to the bartenders. They are lying. The cigar bar is a separate location with a separate kitchen and bar. Go to the cigar bar if you want to sit outside and The Taproom is full. Meanwhile the cigar bar is wonderful. Nice (UNDERSTANDING) servers, good food (better than the food from the Taproom's which they allowed us to eat before ordering some ceviche from them), and cigars! The Taproom are rude, selfish, and liars. Do not go there. Go to the Cigar Bar next door. It is lovely with lovely people working there. You'll just embarrass yourself if you go to the Taproom, like I did.

I love Spring House beers, so it was natural to come here when taking a trip to Lancaster. The selection of beers were great, and I love the quirky stuff they offer. The bartenders were cool, and would offer samples if need be, so that helps if you're not sure what to get. The food was decent here; I got the steak tacos and they hit the spot. If you're in the Lancaster area then come here for some good beer and food!

I love Spring House beer, so I was excited to finally stop by the Taproom. The Lemongrass and Coriander Saison and the Astounding She-Monster Mango IPA with Jalapeño were both fantastic. The food was decent, too, especially the wings and generous market salad. The disappointing part was definitely the service! None of us had ever been there before; we came in, made eye contact with the bartenders and sat at one of the tables. Very few people were there, mostly seated at the bar, and we were completely ignored. After a couple of minutes, we approached the bar and got sidelong looks from the people seated nearby, as if we shouldn't have walked up. An acknowledgement and a quick word about ordering at the bar would have been fine, but we just stood there awkwardly for a few more minutes before an unsmiling bartender came up to ask what we wanted to drink. I asked if they were serving food and menus were just handed to us with the beers. After we ordered at the bar, the food was brought to our table, but we were never checked on. I echo the other reviewers here... A little service would go a long way. If anyone (and there were several employees there, including at least one sitting at the bar as a patron) had even just said, "Hi, feel free to order at the bar whenever you're ready!," it would have been fine. It wasn't a welcoming atmosphere, which is a shame because everything was pretty great, from the beer to the food to the location.

Within walking distance of where we were staying we figured it would be ideal to get some food and booze (and not having to worry about driving epic distances throughout PA) while watching the Italy vs. England World Cup match. Unlike the other breweries we'd hit this one is definitely more adult-oriented and not family-friendly. And the two barmaids had that too-cool-suffering-from-ennui thing going on but we stayed and I'm glad we did. Their beers were fantastic (although not enough to warrant them selling their own bar/beer t-shirts for almost $30 a pop), the food was surprisingly yummy and it was fun to see Italy win (I was definitely outnumbered with most patrons that cared about the game wanting the UK to take it). One pointless story to share: a punk rock couple comes in (from the black clothing to Doc Martens to the endless tattoos) and they make a stink about the soccer match being played and head outside to drink. Where do we see that couple hours later? In our hotel bar. You're drinking in a Marriott bar? Sorry guys - you're posers.

Very nice beer. Raspberry mocha stout was Delicious! No table service for ordering and the bartenders really paid attention to the regulars. We ordered meatball sliders and a cheese plate. The sliders were a bit dry could have used more sauce and the cheese plate was meat and cheese. Very good but I like to know what cheeses I am trying. The menu said meat or cheese so we were pleasantly surprised. I am not sure the owners care but I have a few suggestions! Get a growler filler, so much great bear was wasted filling the growler. Have someone take your order not just your almost empty plates. Much more friendly. Have a way to label the beers on the sampler. We couldn't remember what we ordered. Partner with a local winery. The selection Was horrible! Make your staffs t-shirts easier to pick out. My work here is done!

As I walked up to the bar and the patrons outside were singing in unison Aint No Sunshine I knew I was going to have a good time. A cozy little bar that is on one of the main drags in Lancaster. My cousin brought me here cause he knows I love the good beer. They offer a nice selection that range from Wheat, Stouts, IPA's and Belgians. I saw that they had the Peanut Butter Stout and had to go for it. It was a great twist behind a really good stout. I was super pleased with it and so was my wife. For my 2nd brew I grabbed the Beyond the Gates DIPA and paired it with a pizza and grabbed some Bacon Wrapped Scallops. I liked the DPIA a lot had a good twist with a high kick in the mouth with hops. The pizza was to my liking, nice thin soft crust. Paired great with the beer. The scallops though were a little over done. But hell, they had bacon around them which makes everything better. I can't wait to come back here when my cousin gets married in March. I will make my way back for their great brew and friendly atmosphere. Oh and the bad ass Zoltar machine that might make you "Big" CHEERS!!! yelp.com/biz_photos/tapr…

Traveled from Philly with this place as one of the main attractions, and it lived up the the hype. Having gone to college in Lancaster at F&M, it made me wistful that such a tremendous spot was NOT around when I was living there. The beers are stupendous - quality, original, great prices. The brewery exclusives were stupendous and a great compliment to the standard ones we came in expecting. Service was great - bartenders were quick and attentive, servers friendly and on point. It was crowded but not overwhelming, our party of three plus a toddler had zero complaints. We ordered the truffle mac & cheese appetizer, as our baby was getting peckish, and it was extravagant. Creamy, delicious, nice sized serving. Beers were great, prices fine, cool locale, menu looked great, excited to return. Springhouse rocks.

Was here 2 weeks ago. I noticed a violinist playing inside as I was walking by. I decided to stop in and check it out. I walked up to the bar and squeezed myself between two people who looked at me like I didn't belong there, to order a drink. The bartender saw me, but I was not served. I waited 10 minutes. He walked around and talked to people. He was not busy at all.

POOR service. Ordered food that never came. Seemed like regulars got served and ate first. You will NEVER see me there again. I hope no one ever asks me about this establishment!

This brewery has some very solid beer offerings. Some I can't have (peanut allergy) but their standard and seasonals are quite amazing, although they tend to think outside the box when it comes to the flavors. Like, who knew a mango jalapeño beer would be drinkable? (I hate jalapeños but tried a sip anyway and it was pretty good with little to no heat from the peppers themselves.) We ate here as well and the food was very good. No complaints at all. The atmosphere is lively and the decor is fun. Overall, we enjoyed our time here and will definitely come again.

I would give this place 2.5 stars. The lightening isn't great, it's loud, the nacho chips were stale and the salsa tasted like frozen tomato. If you are into beer then it seems like a a good place to try. It's not my bag.

  • Stacie C.

Taproom by Springhouse had quite an interesting selection of beers, so naturally I had to try them all. This review, then, is only for the beers. Overall I didn't hate anything. The peanut butter stout was not what I expected, but not bad, either. I check in every once in awhile to see what new and exciting beers they have on tap. It seems there is always a suprise. Definitely worth stopping by to at least sample their beers. If I lived closer, I'd probably be by more often. And probably with a growler or two.

Awesome place to have spring house beers, must try pb&j stout! Also killer wings w habanero sauce, not too spicy perfectly vinegary. Here's hoping this place branches out to philly, but if not, it's worth a trip to Lancaster!

This had gone up to a 5 star in my mind for awhile. I've come to love some of their beer. The Braiiins pumpkin is to die for and the Diabolical Dr. Wit is an all time fave now. But they have changed their food. It's not as good as before. The cheese and meat plate no longer gives you options. Come for the beer. Go elsewhere for your food. That seems to be what they are going for now.

    (4)
  • Rocio R.

Love their chocolate stout, their gruesomes, and the pumpkin is pretty good too. Service might be on the average side. Fresh mozzarella sticks are delicious and so was the pork belly. Nice stop to grab a beer and something to snack on after shopping and browsing the Central Market.

3.5/5. I've had really good beers here, and not so good beers, so try it before you buy it! The food ranges from average to below average. It's a quaint, small bar, with a shuffleboard where you and some friends can play. There's a bartender here who is friendly and accommodating and helps you select a beer based off of your tastes. He's the reason why I rounded up to 4 stars. I don't know his name but he has a beard (unless he decides to shave it!).

  • Jeffrey S.

Didn't try any of the food. They have a limited menu. The beer was delicious!!! The raspberry mocha stout was amazing. Bartender was great as well.

  • Chris B.

Service sucks. Bartenders are awful. They don't wanna work. They'd rather talk to friends and regulars. Been here a few times too. 1 star based on that. 4 stars for the beer. I'll just drink their beer at another establishment.

I am a huge fan of Pubs, Breweries and craft beer in general. In fact it was the Spring House Gruesome Stout that brought me from Newark, DE to Lancaster on my day off. But I have to say I was a little disappointed in the service. For starters, if you don't open until 4pm, don't unlock the door at 3:45pm and tell a hungry family who has been outlet shopping all day that you don't open for 15 more minutes. The food was fine. In fact I was able to experience my eight year old eat wings and clean the bones like any adult fan of chicken wings would. I was proud. But the other thing that annoyed me was that even though they serve food and there are tables other than the stools at the bar, I had to place my order with the bartender who alerted me to that fact without ever bringing herself out from behind it. In other words. Better customer service. It's important.

Great draft beer selection, growlers for take home, and great food. I got the pale ale and choc peanut butter stout and it was superb! Wife got pineapple pale ale which was good. We came for happy hour and split the crab and Parmesan dip... One of the best dips we had in a long time. Loaded with garlic and cheese with toasted pita tips. All around great place. Will def be back if I'm in Lancaster again!

They do have a limited menu, but the food and alcohol is great. I love the fact it's right near the market, you can grab a bite to eat and head to the market. I'm definitely going back.

Great bartenders! I'm new to Lancaster and found this place walking by the other night. I went in and was greeted right away and shown the beer list on the wall. This place is nice and open - such a great space! I really enjoyed my time here for drinks and can't wait to go back!

Awesome wings!! crispy and juicy. Pretty innovative beers, were very good. Chocolate peanut butter stout was awesome!

  • Judy B.

Hit or miss kind of place. Best to go during lunch time. food is ok, but could be better. if your coming here just for that than your crazy. For the most part the beer good. Sometimes they have some crazy thing up there and it makes it the whole point of going. other times when they just have their day to day selection than its a once a month kind of thing. you can tell when someone is a regular or not bast on the service. its not bad, but they do bar tenders do seem not to care if your there or not. really shouldn't allow them to have their cell phones, just saying.

Springhouse is a local brewpub that I would be great at Easter. Why? Hop...Hop...Hop....they love the hoppy beer. Have been a few times just to see what is new. Like the beer flights, but not typically a place I would stay at for the evening. Food is typical bar chow and on the average side. Service is a bit spotty, but they have a nice staff. Worth a quick visit on your way to another stop.

  • Michael S.

I had a delicious mint stout and a delicious peanut butter stout here. These varieties of stouts have eluded me ever since, aside from Stone's Collab Mint Chocolate Stout (which was phenomenal), and a Peanut Butter porter I had recently. I don't know if they carry these year-round but I really want to try them again. The taproom was located around lots of other establishments in downtown Lancaster and I love the cobblestone walkways in town. I wish I'd spent more time here. They have a shuffleboard, which is neat. Their craft beer choices were solid too. If I'm ever in Lancaster again, I'll be coming back here without a doubt.

  • Jay L.

This place is pretty bad. From the moment you walk in the door, you are greeted with blank stares, you sit down at a table.... and wait.... until you realize no one is coming. Walk up to the bar tender and ask to see a menu. Menu sounds like it will be good. WRONG the food is god awful, not just awful but this is some of the worst food that I have had in a long time. My wife ordered a spicy sausage sandwich... it was more like a spicy hot dog. Flavorless and dry, even the potato chips had no favor! How do you mess that up? Ever eat a chip with no salt on it? It is not pleasant. I had some wings.... small and flavorless, it became a little bit of a joke after we got the wings. My wife grabbed a wing tasted it and started laughing. That's how bad it was. Lets talk beer, it was OK. Not great, just OK. Yeah they have Big Gruesome but that one beer will get you but so far. With all of the amazing beer related establishments in Lancaster, this place is an embarrassment, from the aloof staff to the mediocre beer. It feels like the owners of the Springhouse brewery thought.... hey downtown Lancaster will put up with anything as long as beer is involved. It is almost as if they didn't even try.... I have love for breweries, pubs, tap houses, bottle shops and pretty much anything to do with beer and my wife and I WILL not return here.

Fantastic beer selection at a great location. Great food menu for being primarily a bar. Pricing is what you'd expect for craft brews.

I've been here several times and definately enjoy their beers. However it is a bit confusing as to the service if your not sitting at the bar. It is seat yourself (although not posted) and apparently there is no service to the tables. We did order food and that was quite the disapointment. Simple hot dog wrapped in bacon (which they forgot) topped with cole slaw. It took over 20 minutes to get, for a hot dog and chips. If that's the best they can do with food then they should just do away with it and stick to beer. If you are sitting at a table and you go up to get your next beer it's like they totally ignor you. Very odd and this has happened everytime we've stopped in. I do love what they do with the hop rocket and the "one off's". Very quality beer and worth the trip. The beer out weighs the service.....

Descent place in downtown Lancaster. The beers are all by Springhouse Brewing Co. with a few "guest" beers from outside breweries. Craft beers are getting pretty overexposed, in my opinion. The beers here were pretty good, but there wasn't much that really stood out to me. The food is iffy. I went on pizza night, which was a small pizza and two beers for $15. After seeing what the pizza looked like, I shied away and had a grilled turkey sandwich; it was pretty good. I did, however, try a slice of the pizza, not good at all. Basically a frozen pizza that was thrown in the oven. Taco night was pretty brutal too. I believe tacos are $1 each. They are basically cheap supermarket taco shells with lettuce, cheese and MAYBE an ounce of meat. Honestly, I think I am being generous calling it an ounce. The theme is, not a bad place, but I highly recommend steering clear of the food specials.

I'm a big fan of craft beer and went for the lil gruesome! While there were two bar tenders (red head n blonde)and one bus boy behind the bar they were on their phones and talking with select customers drinking from their cups which they kept on the bar. One select customer ordered a half of a mango beer! He was given immediate attention while we had to fight to get a second beer and our meals! The girls offered no knowledge about beer, didn't ask how we were doing, if we needed anything...we appeared to be more of a nuisance than paying customers! Food and beer was okay but I wouldn't go back or recommend the tap house to anyone! Pick a different brew pub! Make the drive to Troegs!!

We sat at the bar for dinner and had this feeling like we were suppose to raise our hand for service the entire night. After being given menus, we sat there (without drinks) for 5-10 minutes before the bartenders acknowledged us again. We order our food/drinks and the bartender responds by asking for our IDs. Wonder if he'll remember our order after the ID interruption? Nope. My girlfriend's sandwich is delivered, and mine isn't. Another 10 minutes pass. Bartenders ignore us. I flag down bartender and remind him that we are waiting for another sandwich. 10 more minutes pass before my meal arrives. Vegetable panini is amateur / not very good. Another bartender says we'll get discount for waiting so long. Check arrives, no discount. We're not one to argue, so we let it go and write this review instead. This place sucks.

Beer is GREAT, service is sometimes sporadic. Still, it's definitely worth the wait if there is one. Spring House's chocolate stouts are some of the best I've ever had, probably because they use higher quality stuff from Wilbur Chocolate in Lititz, rather than generic chocolate nibs from wherever. The use of real peanut butter in their Big Gruesome stout really comes through. Either way, the tap list is always interesting enough and I always find time to stop by if I'm in Lancaster. I have not had a chance to try the food, but from what I've seen ordered it looks good.

Living in Lancaster, you can walk to so many different places. We have fallen in LOVE with the Taproom since it's inception over 2 years ago. The beer selection changes daily and the food menu is upscale bar food which has significantly been upgraded over that timeframe. The pizza could be a bit better, but the tacos on Tuesday are AWESOME! Also, try the crab mac-n-cheese bites, you won't regret it! We are mug club members which is a great value and also makes you feel cool when people ask you about your awesome looking mug! The beer is some of the best we've ever had!! And we've tried a LOT of beers! The new Federal Taphouse just opened up in between where we live and the Taproom. We have decided that we still just prefer the small-town, upscale feel of Taproom better. Yeah, it can be a little loud because the acoustics are a bit echoey, and it does get a bit crowded on Friday (probably because of how awesome it is) but that's just because it's the best place in town to hang out and have a World Class micro brew! Speaking of the micro brews, they tend to run on the IPA heavy side, but have lots of Wheats as well. My favorite beer is the Big Gruesome Choco Peanut Butter Stout and my fiancé loves the BRRAAAAIIINNSSS Pumpkin Ale! They have seasonal beers, so be sure to stop by in the summer for the Pineapple Ale and the fall for their Pumpkin Ale and Stout and ask to mix them into a Pumpkiny Black and Tan deliciousness in your mouth! Cheers!

Great location! Its so easy here, you wont leave once entered... Ive been in the afternoon, not so many people, but i'm sure in the eve/night, its gonna be as chilled as in the afternoon... If you are up for a beer spontaneously or just wanna have one of those delicious hot dogs, make your way up here...

Great beers! Unique & inspired. The only other place I know making beers in this realm is Prism in N. Wales Montgomery Co. Taproom is superior however. Last year (I make an annual summer trip to Lancaster for new beer & other goodies) it was a PB& J brew; yesterday it was Braaiiins!, a superbly crafted Pumpkin ale. I believe it was unfiltered. Had a nice caramel- nutmeg nose and pleasant bitter finish. This is like a meal in a glass. Beyond the Gates DIPA is also very good. My only regret was it was too early in the day to do a flight, plus I only had one growler with me and a friend who doesn't drink. Would have liked to taste the Cosmic Monster Quad (which sounds amazing)& the Pineapple Pale Ale. Conveniently located next to Central Market(another gem), with a nice industrial- like atmosphere. Thank you for opening at 11:00 on a Friday morn as I was able to get a growler of some really special stuff to take home.Cannot comment on food as I haven't tried any.

Atmosphere is nice, especially on a pretty day when you can sit outside and people watch. Beer is good, they have a decent selection on tap. The food smelled amazing and from what I heard from people around me, it tasted as good as it smelled. Service was ok. I stood at the bar for like 10 minutes and was not acknowledged while others were being served who came in after me. Also, there was an EXTREMELY intoxicated man there who was obviously not cut off, even after falling up the stairs. And then attempting to get in a car and drive away (from what a friend told me after I left). He couldn't even put sentences together. A little scary....

this place is pure crap! I was here in the late afternoon on a saturday and was stunned by the douchbaggery that abounded at this place. Overly loud hipsters who were in love with the sounds of their own voices dominated the bar. The bartenders (2) were hardpressed to be bothered to get us drinks and the food.... I can't quite figure out what the point. I had a very tiny salad and my companion a mediocre sandwhich and we paid over $30??? It's Lancaster not Philly.... If patrons must listen to the gut wrenching musings of the perpetually angsty the least you could do is offer good food and service. If you are over the age of 25 and value service and quality, Run, don't walk from this place!!!

The locally brewed beer didn't catch my eye, but I did have a decent berliner weiss with raspberry syrup. Round Guys was the brewery. Balanced and sour, I liked it. Fun spot.

This was a neat place! I came here with some family back in May and it was a nice atmosphere. We got their mozzarella sticks and pizza for dinner and they were mighty tasty. However, I was a bit disappointed with their beers. I think we came at the wrong time of year because Springhouse certainly knows how to make dark beers. Their chocolate peanut butter stout is ridiculously good and it alone warrants this place 5 stars. However, we did a flight of all their beers and their other ales just weren't good at all. The IPAs were really bad and their experimental raspberry/jalapeno IPA - just awful. Parking can be a bit of a pain, but that's not a reason not to check this place out. Overall, go there for some great bar food and stick with the chocolate peanut butter stout - it's a keeper!

  • Diane T.

Springhouse has some good beer. My bf is a big fan of all their stouts. I enjoy the brown ale and the mango ipa. But I think I'd be just as happy drinking their beer at a more comfortable bar with a lower noise level. Even when there aren't a whole lot of people there, the voices just boom thru the room. I can only imagine how crazy it gets in there late on a Friday or Saturday night. If that's your kind of thing, you'll have a great time. It's not a big place with about 15-20 bar stools and several high tables that can seat 4-each.

Awesome beer! Get a flight 10 beers for 12 dollars. Big gruesome is one of the best chocolate beers I have ever had. They make really eclectic selections like mango IPA and pineapple saison. The place is super small and there is only bar-style seating. Don't go here for a sit down meal! With that being said....the mozzarella sticks were ok minus the weird sauce that came with them and the cheese fries were nothing spectacular but a good accompaniment to the beer!

Worth a stop if you're downtown. Small and loud, but that's part of the appeal. Crowd skews hipster. Cool atmosphere with huge glass windows overlooking the street. Sidewalk tables are great for people-watching. Usually there's 6-8 of their own beers on tap, plus a rotating "guest" tap for other local offerings. My favorites - Big Gruesome (chocolate peanut butter stout) and Mind Control (strawberry rhubarb wheat), but everything I've tried here has been pretty good, save for the guava ale (far too astringent, and not enough flavor). Only downside - wait times for service at the bar can be rather lengthy on busier nights. I've only ever seen one bartender back there, and they hustle pretty good, but often it's just-busy-enough that a second one would probably be beneficial.

A very tasty and creative beer selection. I would give the beer 5 stars. I went for taco Tuesday and the tacos were just okay at best. Perhaps the other food options are better. The beer makes it worth going back to find out.

Coming from San Diego and their craft brewing culture, this place definitely made me feel at home. The sampler was a pretty good deal, got to try all of the beers on their menu in about the equivalent of 2 pints. Big Gruesome, the chocolate peanut butter stout, was great, and the minty Satan's Bake Sale was pretty memorable too, I would definitely write home about that one. All of the beer varieties were pretty creative. Also pleasantly surprised by the prosciutto-wrapped figs appetizer, that was probably one of the tastiest appetizers I've ever had. This place does get a slight knock though because they were out of bottles, I was hoping to take some beer back with me to the hotel. I would definitely agree with the other review that said this place had a hipster/trendy vibe, and I noticed nearly half the room had thick beards, what's up with that? Is that a reflection of Amish culture in PA?

Lancaster has a surprising number of options for breweries - all of them good. But the Springhouse beers easily trump them all. Truly some innovative flavor combinations that sound like they shouldn't work (Peanut Butter & Jelly Beer?) but they all do so try everything - they rotate what is on tap quite often. Taproom has a great location and good atmosphere. Can get crowded on weekend evenings, but what good bar doesn't?

I've liked the Springhouse beers for a while so my wife and I were anxious to try the new Taproom. We were not disappointed. This is a great location. If you grab one of the bar seats in front, it is a great place to sit and watch people walking on the sidewalk (what can I say, I'm a big fan of people watching). The beers are way "outside the box". During our visit, they had the Peanut Butter Chocolate Stout, Guava Ale, and the Maple Bacon Porter. I love the creative thinking! All 3 of these beers were solid although some could only be consumed in small doses (i.e. - PBC Stout). My wife ordered the flight and if you've never been introduced to Springhouse, this is the way to go. It consists of your choice of 5 beers served in small glasses. This gives you a chance to try several different styles. I started with the Guava Ale (tart and a good warm weather beer) and finished with the Peanut Butter Chocolate Stout (I think this should be served in a glass smaller than a pint, it is too sweet for large consumption). I like the decor. It seems to cater to a younger crowd with the paint scheme but I'm told this was done by a local painting company. I believe this because I saw several employees of the paint company enjoying lunch on the day we went. The flight is served on vintage beer trays. This was cool. I collect these trays and I love the fact that someone is using them for their intended purpose (although I never would use any from my collection for this). If I had one critique, the food is subpar. I think it is prepared by the restaurant that is behind the Taproom. My wife had the Veggie Quesadilla and I had the Pizza with beef tips and blue cheese. Both were just ok. P.S. I attached a picture of my wife's flight served on a vintage beer tray.

I found this place while driving downtown and decided to try it out today. We sat ourselves and no one informed us that we also had to collect our own menus and order at the bar. Thankfully, the food was delivered. My veggie burger was good, but they failed to add the hummus (main topping). The other orders were flavorless or raw. And once mentioned, food was not offered to be redone. They made excuses for why it came out as such. The French fries were good, but charged $2 extra. Seriously?! It's a staple!! I was excited for the mint stout and at first it was great. Good chocolate flavor. However, once I had my food (good), the taste was awful. Only 1/3 beers were finished. Not worth returning to.

Pretty cool tap house in the "downtown" Lancaster area. The bar is simple and open. The highlight are all the options available on tap. I'd recommend the sampler. Small glasses that allow you to taste the many options.

The Springhouse Taproom, in my humble opinion, has a number of positives going for it, namely the location. The bar is located in the heart of Lancaster's downtown, within walking distance of several other watering holes and The Central Market (this could possibly be a negative if you just head to the Central Market in the morning for some produce and get sucked into the bar for a while). I'm also a big fan of the setup. While it could get crowded, the bar has, in my opinion, the perfect table to standing room ratio. There's several seats outside, as well as the only legitimate shuffleboard table I've been able to find in Lancaster. The Taphouse is borderline hipster, which is usually a turnoff to me, but the crowd really isn't and I've never felt talked down to by any of the staff because I can't taste the difference between an IPA and a Lager. They've always been courteous and helpful. On the subject of the beer, it's pretty delicious, and it's weird in a good way. I particularly like the Pumpkin Ale & Chocolate Peanut Butter Stoudt. One downfall: it's really strong. I can either start my night here or end it, but could never stay the night, unless I really want to humiliate myself. On that note, it's a perfect weeknight and perfect pregame spot. I'm not a huge liquor drinker, but they don't have any, which I'm sure would be a turnoff to some.

Stopped here after a trip to Central Market (just steps away) and really enjoyed the beers! In fact, my hubby and I liked the beers so much we asked if they had any other locations - unfortunately this location is the one and only. We didn't try any food but what we saw coming out of the kitchen looked good. We also had a fun time playing shuffleboard!

I sampled one of their brews at the Liberty Taproom in Reading. Rather impressed. Much so, that I took the girl and my Amish loving folks with me to Lancaster to sample more of their selection. Spring House has the very hipsterish-trendy vibe. The inside of the brewery is very clean and keeps up with the presentation of the rest of the area. And a Zoltar machine? Oh yeah! Awesome. The guys working behind the bar were very accommodating and friendly as well. They were able to set me up with what I liked and a nice variety to sample. Made the hour plus drive worth it. The price for Growler refills were kinda steep, but well worth it. I recommend their Stout selection. ESPECIALLY Satans Bake Sale for you lovers of Mint Pattys. I'm gonna stick with 4 stars for now. Would like to sample some food to possibly give it the extra block.

Loved the taproom. Beers that quickly rotate with good quality. There's a tendency toward the fringe beers, still not enough to compromise enjoyment of the pint. Food was excellent, good chili and nice wing/ribs. Best brewery in Lancaster. I want to come back and play some shuffleboard!

The beers are delicious, the food is above average, and you can sit outside and enjoy the nicest part of town. Enough said. But if you're interested to read on: There's a shuffleboard table, a few TVs, and some unmemorable music playing inside. The aesthetics are nice enough, and the full glass facade of the building makes the bar open and inviting. There are some tables strewn about, and though the food options aren't limited and are quite good, this is more of a "grab something to eat while I drink" place, not vice versa. The reason to come here is the beer, which is of almost questionably good quality. I love it. I'm not a beer snob, or even a connoisseur, but I have always been keen to sample and appreciate all types of beer. For whatever reason, the beer at Taproom really gets me going. It's not for everyone, but if you actually like beer, you will actually like this place. ALERT it will also get you drunk. They don't offer any light beers. Not even a smidge. Lowest alcohol content is around 5.5 and most are above 6, some hilariously so. Plus you get a 20oz English pint. So you'll be buzzed up; plan accordingly. Or don't, I don't care. I can only give this place 4 stars, however, because they don't have any liquor. I'm not sure why, but I assume PA's archaic and nonsensical liquor laws are at work. Anyway, the one star deduction stands because sometimes you need a little whiskey, amirite? I SUGGEST: Gate Six Pale Ale; 3 dollar hot dog special on Wednesdays; sitting outside. I DETEST: Lack of Jack.

What can I say? I love this place. The beer offerings change frequently, which is a good thing. However, if you want something specific, check their website to make sure it's available. They often have an interesting experimental beer on tap, like a jalapeno-infused beer or one that has been drafted through the randall. I love the Big Gruesome (the chocolate peanut butter stout), and I think it's probably one of the beers that they're known for. The ambiance here is fine - many say it's hipster-y, but I've always found it to be pretty laid back. The food has really improved recently - I remember when the only food you could get was a not-so-great pizza. Now they have delicious things like loaded hot dogs, pulled pork sandwiches, and mac n cheese bites. Overall, Springhouse is one of my favorite places in downtown Lancaster.

Have frequented this bar twice. While the beer selection is a highlight, the service was horrible...both times! I really tried to give the benefit of the doubt by going back after the first time but the bartenders, two women, virtually ignored patrons, not just me. Even while sitting at the bar, myself and others had difficulty placing our orders. Not a place I'll try a third time, which is disappointing considering the beer choices.

The beers they actually had on tap at the Spring House Brewing Company in Lancaster, PA (lovely city, I might add) differed a bit when I visited than their website. I must assume they rotate some beers and so I cannot guarantee the availab...ility of anything described here. That is too bad, because two of the beers I had here were simply superb. The more unusual (indeed, one of the most unusual I have ever had) is the Peanut Butter Chocolate Stout. Does the sound of it make you cringe a bit? It should not. The aroma is a delicious blend of PB and chocolate and a it has a wonderful taste to match. It was hard not to just order more of this and I will never, never be satisfied with a Reese's cup again. At 8.5% abv, it packs a pretty nice wallop, too. The other standout was the seasonal Braaaiiins Pumpkin Ale (there was some inconsistency on the two chalkboards as to the number of 'a's and 'i's in the name, but any reader so lacking in cognitive faculties as to not be able to figure out which beer this is at the actual brewery itself deserves to go thirsty). With a sweet smell and darker copper color, its 8.0% abv goes down without the slightest 'alcohol' taste to it. Pumpkin ales are a standard at craft breweries and this one is one of the better ones I have had. The Seven Gates Pale Ale has a nice citrusy smell and, as it was actually the first beer I had here, started things off on the right foot. The taste is a wee bit too bitter for me, which was a small disappointment for me after the great smell. But still, overall, a winner. The Mango IPA has both the color and smell of its eponymous fruit with a taste just sweet enough to appreciate the flavor of that mango. It also has a nice hoppy aftertaste. The Diabolical Doctor Wit is a bit substandard compared to the other beers at this place. It is nothing noteworthy and a better wheat beer would be easy to find. Similarly, Two Front Teeth Belgian-style saison has a nice fruity smell due to the cherries added in the brewing process, though it also has a bit of a flat taste. Too bad. At 9.7% abv, one could really get hammered on this stuff if the taste were more up to snuff. In all, not a bad way to spend a few hours in beautiful Lancaster. As for the food? Well, go to the Neptune Diner down the street instead.

Taproom is a great place to hangout. The beer is good, not my absolute favorite beer ever, but it's complex and has really interesting flavor. The bar itself thought is just a fantastic place to hangout with friends and banter about whatever. Not only that pretty much everyone there is laid back and really relaxed so it's easy to meet people and talk it up. Since it was my first visit I tired the beer sampler. It's a little daunting to go that on your own. I finished but by the end my taste buds were completely shot from all the complex flavors. And trust me the Springhouse beer is VERY complex stuff.

Music is great, the bartenders get randy, and the beer is good. Stick with the staples such as Coffee Stout and Seven Gates. Don't bother with the food, but play shuffleboard. The vibe is very relaxed and granola. You know if they are there they like good beer and are willing to talk about it.

This modern light-filled downtown beer bar is across the street from the newspaper building and right in the heart of downtown, also located in a cool cluster of independent stores in an old building, fun to walk through. The huge windows look out onto the Central Market building. Lancaster has done a great job of preserving and using its historic buildings. I wanted to visit after hearing about their fringe beers, which did not disappoint me, though the standards are of very high quality too. The brewery for the beer is outside Lancaster in Conestoga. It is great to drink beer where there are no boring corporate choices, only well-crafted and creative local ones. It is not really sportsbar-ish, though the tvs and sports were on. No fries on the menu, so nothing for plant-based eaters but some hummus, and vegans get plenty of hummus and don't feel like paying for it. We were fine just enjoying the beer. I ordered a sampler of 5 tastes for $6.50, and the taster glasses were like half a beer, very generous. So 5 of them was more than enough for us to split. I chose the Mango IPA, the Chocolate Peanut Butter Stout, and the pumpkin ale, and he finished the choices with a Belgian Wit and another (this one high-abv) rich Belgian. I am less into the Belgians but have to admit I freaking loved them here. Fruit beers can get boring and be too girly, but the idea of mango in an IPA was just wonderful and not overpowering. I will recommend the stout to a friend who is crazy for the Southern Tier Creme Brulee, though it smelled sweeter than it tasted. The pumpkin ale (called Brains) was toward the pumpkin pie flavor I prefer in fall brews.

Stopped in before a concert at The Chameleon Club - tried a few samples then enjoyed a pint of the Robot...Pineapple which was excellent - I would rate the beer 5 star - the food was good - nothing outstanding but nothing done wrong. The beer is the thing here. Nice atmosphere - good crowd, excellent bartender who kept her calm with patrons some of whom were not used to micro-brewed beers - but even they were happy at the end of the visit - as I passed them sitting outside at a umbrella'ed table - they were smiling - their Springhouse tastings in front of them - enjoying the adventure away from an under 100 calorie beer which they had walked in wanting. Who knew Lancaster PA had beer like this?! Excellent.

Not impressed. Went here for lunch on Sunday. Sat at a table and didn't figure out there is no service at the tables. Had to go to the bar and ask, then place the tables order at the bar. ordered drinks, had to pick them up at the bar and bring to the table myself. Ordered sandiwiches, they were out of the sandwich I ordered. I lewft thispace not leaving a tip figuring I had to do all the work. Won't return. I understand its probably strictly a beer drinking place, but please...just a little help.

Really nice brewpub. The atmosphere is fantastic and the beer is really good. For a brewery, it has a really nice family atmosphere. I'm looking forward to coming back.

Since it's official opening I have visited the taproom four times. This place is a welcome addition to the Lancaster drinking scene. Very recently they greatly improved their menu by engaging Carr's restaurant to provide the requisite base for the beverages. Now to the beer: This stuf is pretty good. The 7gates pale ale probably comes as quite a sensory shock to people expecting a "light" beer to match its hue. Despite it being usually the lowest beer in alcohol content on tap (clocking in around 5.5%); it is steeper than most drinking novices expect. Be careful, because the imperial pints go down much too easily, next thing you know you've drank four and you're much funnier than you friends ever knew. Anyway, in addition to their pale ale, they usually have a at least four other beers on tap. Over the weekend they were serving: Atomic Raygun (imperial red ale) which was very good, except I remember I liked it a lot more last year, Beyond the Gates (double IPA) best beer going, Planet Bean stout, excellent coffee stout, and Wet Paint (guava-based saison) very tasty and inventive. If I remember correctly they have ten taps, but only brew between 4-6 beers themselves. Months ago when the Taproom was under construction their was scuttlebutt that other brews would be featured. This would be alright by me. As much as I like Springhouse, they suffer from redundancy and diminishing marginal returns. Their beer is very good and distinctive. As much as I like it, I can only drink so many Atomic Rayguns. If two or three outside brews were introduced, this place will thrive. One more thing...shuffleboard is great, however other patrons will discard their jackets and belongings on the table during games.

Seven gates is the best deal going here. Had a French dip which was very good and a friend of mine had the chorizo, which he said was good, too. Definitely a return visit is needed!

As with many microbreweries, they do their beers according to the season. When I went, it must have been IPA /wheat season as that is what the majority of their brews were. I'm not an IPA fan, so please keep that in mind with the review of the beers. I plan on returning in the fall/winter when they have more breakfast stouts. As always, beers are rated on the pint scale, 0-5 of how many pints I can drink in a night. Goofy foot summer wheat: light crisp summer wheat. Slight hoppy finish, without overpowering wheat taste. 4 pints. Cliff Saison: this beer tasted much like an IPA and didn't have the banana sweetness of a typical saison. Not sure if the bartender poured the wrong beer or if this was how it was supposed to taste. 0 pints. . Diabolical Doctor Wheat: this wheat beer had a pleasant finish of pepper and cilantro. Would pair nicely with Thai food. 4 pints. Robot Surf Factory: a pineapple IPA. The IPA bitterness was very slight, as was the pineapple taste. If there was more of a pineapple flavor, I would have enjoyed this beer much more. 3 pints Daphnee Saison: This was a typical saison with the banana like finish. 2 pints Beyond the gates DIPA: A typical double IPA. not my taste 0 pints. She monster mango: an IPA brewed with mango. Similar to the pineapple IPA. Subtle IPA taste with a slight mango finish. Again, I would have enjoyed it more if the mango was more pronounced. 3 pints. 2 front teeth golden ale: This was perhaps their most original beer. It had a citrus and mineral quality about it which was very similar to crisp Vidal wine. 3 pints 7 gates pale ale: a "milder" version of the beyond the gates. Again, not right for my taste. 0 pints.

Loved it. My wife and I are in from out of town and our friends brought us. I got the classic grilled cheese, and while it's hard to screw up a grilled cheese, it was excellent. The fries were great too. I also tried the Old Bay buffalo wings and they were good. The beer selection was great. We got a sampler of all ten of the beers they had on tap. Everything was great (no joke). My personal favorite is a toss up between the Devils Bake Sale chocolate mint stout, or the Raspberry wheat. They fill growlers there. I almost bought one of their gorgeous metal handled growlers but I certainly will next time I'm in town.

What a fun little place! I had the Astounding She-Monster Mango IPA - basically I ordered that because of the awesome name. Most of them have sweet, clever names. It's ABV 7.7%, and I really liked it. Danger zone. My friend got the Lexicon Devil, the grapefruit pale ale - ABV 6%. Some of these beers go up to 11.4%, choose wisely. This has a cool atmosphere, friendly bar tender, and Zoltar! I didn't have any food, but we sat at the window bar and people watched. I would totally come back here just for a drink or two - more than that and I'll be taking a cab home.

Stopped by here after a brief bite. I had a sampler with a bunch of different kinds of beer. My favorite was the pumpkin stout. It was just the perfect mix of roasted sweet spice. The saison with lavender also had some good flavor. The bartenders were super attentive and seemed to know a lot about their beer. I really liked their branding and fun decor. I even bought a coaster to take home.

Spontaneous day trip to Lancaster County! Our first stop of the day was the Taproom! My fiancé and I have always enjoyed Spring House beers and we've always wanted to stop by the Taproom. Finally got the opportunity too and it was well worth it! In the heart of downtown Lancaster, this place is tucked in between a parking lot and alley. We each got a flight, which were served on vintage tin plates (awesome) and tacos. Warning: chicken tacos and fish tacos are both spicy! Blackened! After visiting the Taproom, I think I can say that Spring House is one of my favorite local beers. There wasn't many beers that I tried that I didn't like. Would love to stop by the Taproom again soon!

I really want to give a 3.5. I come here every time I visit Lancaster from Philly. This is a brew pub type atmosphere and it seems with every visit they add some new design inside to make it its own. I noticed they now have some groovy artwork above the bar which adds to a unique decor. The reason why I deduct stars is the bar is very loud as they have no acoustic sound absorbers, it's always a pain to get a seat anywhere, and sometimes it's tough to flag down someone from the bar to get a drink. The loudness and need for additional seats..or a larger venue..makes it feel somewhat stuffy and uncomfortable inside. With that said, they have original and tasty beers. They also have the best chocolate peanut butter stout I've had anywhere and it's super delicious when on tap. Actually tastes like PB while being very pleasant. They also offer beer flights (samplers), served on vintage trays. This is a good way to go to try a little bit of everything. Their food menu has been evolving and growing over time. Last I heard, many of their appetizers are frozen, but for bar food, it's still good. Try the monster mozz sticks, and pretzel and mustard. The food is simple, but at a brewpub, I don't expect a fancy meal unless they set those expectations. They offer some sort of frequent visitor mug, so if you love it and are around, inquire within about said mug program! Also, they now sell Springhouse gear. The bathrooms are usually a little bit trashed with paper towels or TP on the floors..and this is in re: to ladies room.
