On a recent visit the service was much better. Food was great. Will be back.

Best pad thai I've had so far. Everything else was great also, I've had several different styles of curry, and different noodle dishes, all met my standards, and Thai is one of my favorites. Great tea, straight from a french press. Good atmosphere, fair prices.

I have been here twice and had great experiences both times. First of all, I love that this place is BYOB bring a few bottles of your favorite wine to enjoy with dinner :) They have good appetizers including crab wontons and shrimp rolls. I have gotten both the basil stir fry and pineapple fried rice as my main courses - both excellent! I'll be back

I went here once for lunch, with my mom, and I had mixed feelings about it and would not go back. The soups were exquisite, and one of the entrees I liked very much. They also served high-quality loose-leaf tea (Jasmine tea) in a sort of french-press-like brewer, and it was very good. But the one item, the green curry, came out with a very lurid green color. Green curry is one of my favorite dishes to order in Thai restaurants in America, and I have tried it at dozens of different places. I know what it looks like, and its green color is subtle, a sort of yellowish-green color. The color of this dish was a very intense, bright green color that had an almost bluish cast to it. I was a little concerned that it had been artificially colored, but I wanted to keep an open mind, because I understand that adding freshly grated green herbs to something can make food have a bright green hue to it. But the greenish color seemed to come from the sauce itself, not herbs in it, and whenever I cook, if I cook green things into a sauce, they lead to a more muted yellowish green color, not a bright green. So I asked the waitress if the dish I had been served had any artificial colors in it, and they told me that she did not know. She got someone from the kitchen, but he told me that he did not know either. I found this upsetting. I didn't eat the dish...I just switched it with my mom, as she didn't mind. But the whole experience made me feel really uncomfortable here and I don't want to go back. I want (1) restaurants to NOT use artificial colors in their foods. Period. And (2) I want them to know how to give me a straight answer about whether or not their foods do contain artificial colors. And as a final note, the green color was just gross. I am a foodie, and I eat eat eat and I love eating "gross" foods, like non-western foods like tripe and chicken feet, and I love all sorts of weird vegetables and spices and mushrooms, and I am not easily grossed out by natural foods. But blue food coloring really grosses me out...it just is too....blue. Eww. it's not a food color. I don't want to see it in my food. Not even if it's just a bluish cast on a green dish.

Stopped by for a quick bite. Waiter was slow and didn't ask for drinks. When he served water, it tasted like a hose. Food (Pad Thai and Papaya Salad) were the same temperature. When I tasted the Pad Thai (requested spiced HOT) it tasted like Ketchup Sauce. The waiter explained it was flavored for the Americans. I asked to speak to the manager, who was not on site. The waiter offered to discount 20% on the untouched food. Worst Thai Food experience in 15 years

DATE: at least once a month ATMOSPHERE: Better-than-average decor for an asian restaurant. Bright, cheerful, and clean. PROS: Outstanding, authentic Thai food that is fresh and flavorful...some of the best I've ever had. Extremely vegetarian-friendly. Favorites are the fresh rolls and curry dishes. Good service. CONS: Location is slightly out of the way for some but it's worth the drive! WILL I GO BACK? Definitely.

Came here a couple days ago while I was in town, and It was pretty good. Had the Pad Si Ew which is always my go-to for thai food and it was a little different, I thought it was a little bland than I usually like it, but all in all it was good. Had their Thai Tea which is always a favorite of mine! Great service as well. I would definitely re-visit for lunch or something next time I'm in town.

Fab Thai iced tea. They do this cute curly thing with straws which I was easily amused by. My Pad Thai was decent. Medium sized portions. I stayed at the Lancaster Arts Hotel and this was a conveniently close change of pace for me and my special guest. If you're out of town and looking for a nice, little Thai spot, this place will do the trick. Also, this restaurant is GORGEOUS inside. I couldn't get over the natural light enveloping the room from the large windows. You'll look good while eating your food!

To start, I came here solo for lunch before work and despite there only being 2 other couples dining, it took almost 10 minutes to be sat. Normally I would have left long before then, but I decided to stick it out side I have been craving Thai food. For the lunch special, I started with the crab wontons, which were practically tasteless. Fortunately, the peanut sauce was decent and made up for the bland wontons. I went with the pad thai with tofu for my entree, which was a pleasant surprise after the lackluster appetizer. That being said, it still wasn't amazing. It was just an average, adequate noodle dish. It definitely lacked flavor, but it was still tolerable. Throughout my meal, I was not checked up on once and my empty drink glass sat at the edge of my table the entire time. All in all, Sukhothai definitely needs to brush up on their customer service and has very bland food. It wasn't HORRIBLE but I still would not return.

Do you like Chef Boyardee? Are you NOT a fan of Thai food? You should try this place!! It looks just like Thai food but tastes just like Chef Boyardee. If you DO like Thai food, avoid this place at all costs. In addition to bad food, the service was very, very slow and inattentive.

  • Russell F.

The food was good, it was small. I wasn't blown away by the preparation. But it was good. Just not amazing. I would definitely give them another try. They do have a limited "specials" menu for lunch, it seems. Not bad but every lunch is a $10 combination.

The food wasn't bad, but it also wasn't great. I wasn't impressed with the flavor and the portion size of the food. I feel that if this was the first time you were eating Thai food, you would probably like it. I had better Thai food in other restaurants and usually order the same thing--drunken noodles and calamari. Servers were nice and attentive. I love that this was BYOB, plenty of parking, and nice atmosphere

  • Julie G.

The food was...eh...that's the best I can say about it. The green curry was overloaded with coconut milk. It was way too thick and way too sweet even with medium spice. The Thai ice tea was delicious though!

Food was good. Waitstaff courteous. Nice layout and very personal for tables. Came here after Mean Cup with my mom and we split the curry and veggies and rice. Was hoping it would be hotter, but it had spice. I'm sad that most Thai places have American-ized their spice levels, because when I say hot, I mean Thai hot. Not American-I get offended because the jalapeños have seeds in them I'm gonna sue you because I have a weak constitution-hot. I'd like to try them again and will, but I'll be getting their hottest level to see if they can satisfy my need to burn.

Thai iced tea presented nicely. Vegetable Pad Thai was poor quality- bland and mushy with very little flavor. Very little peanut, cilantro, lime flavor. Nice decor and great service.

    (2)
  • Todd M.

Genuine Thai food. They seem to tone the spices down as the default, so ask for it "Thai hot" if you want it like you would get in Thailand. Highly recommended.

This is a standard of great American-ized Thai food in Lancaster. The place is executed beautifully and all of the food is delicious. The staff is always pleasant. My suggestion is to go for the very reasonable lunch special! Suggestions -Pad Thai, Coconut Soup, Red Curry! YUMM....

  • Redi S.

I was craving some green curry, I usually go to LaSal Thai but they were closed so I decided to give this place a shot. Worst green curry I have ever had. Barely any broth and its an additional $1.50 if you want extra. My friend ordered the Pad Thai, again, GROSS! It tasted like noodles mixed with tomato paste. The place is pretty but thats all it has going for it. I Wouldn't go back again, ever

OK but overpriced. We had chicken pad thai, red curry w/chicken & chicken fried rice...for $47 (to-go order) for 4. The portions were sizeable but not huge. Will keeping searching for good, reasonably priced Thai.

  • Leo L.

Depends on what you order. I think their pad thai is way too salty, yet their hot and sour soup is awesome. So it all comes down to what you decide to have. Parking is convenient, environment is nice. A good thai place to go if you know what you gonna get.

This is my first review yet, but I feel like it is important to make diners aware. Today my husband and I ordered take out, we ordered the vegetarian drunken noodles and vegetarian brown curry (masamum). The brown curry was decent, not the best we had. It needed more flavor and more gravy. The drunken noodles were BAD and not restaurant quality. The noodles were overcooked, starchy, sticky and very dry. I am new to the area and hope I can come across a better thai restaurant. We will not be ordering from here again. Sorry

Sukhothai does Thai food justice!! They serve the best pad Thai I've had anywhere so far, other faves on the menu include the crab wontons, green curry, spring rolls and tom kha coconut soup is loaded with deliciousness!!! It's a bit small, but the decor is intimate and nice. Staff is friendly and helpful with special requests, but can be a bit slow when the place is packed.

  • Dave K.

Summer rolls are worth a try, Drunken noodles (medium heat) are tasty, for dessert, I would suggest Mango Rice--the coconut milk is lightly sweetened and enhances the overall experience

Quiet romantic Thai restaurant. Very nice atmosphere with excellent service. We enjoy the coconut rice and crab wontons every time. Choose from soups, salads, stir fry, and Thai appetizers. Recommend.

We have dined here every time we come to Lancaster, but now we see a difference in quantity, quality and taste. The prices are high for what you get. We have really loved their veg coconut soup in the past, and for $6 you would usually get a huge filled-to-the-rim bowl of soup. This time around, the quantity was less and the flavor not much there. We ordered a green curry dish and a red curry dish of which both were small in size and bland. It just was not thai food. The food came out warm too instead of piping hot which means they made it when they made our soup and it just sat there until we were ready for it. You used to be able to get a nice size bowl of rice, now you get a scoop of rice in that same bowl and would need to order another. Sure, the environment is nice, and the service is not bad (although it would be nice if the lady who served us would have had the courtesy to come back to ask if the food was any better after it was brought back to us by someone else). They were willing to spiff up the dishes after our feedback, but all they seemed to have done was add more salt, and some more vegetables and reheated it up. When we told the server that the flavor was not the same as it used to be, he said that they had changed some of their sauces, so maybe that is why... I am sorry but I was disappointed with our meal here this time and do not recommend this restaurant (unless they get their act together again), and will not dine here again. I see that they have had some 4 and 5 star reviews from the past but now it is not the same.

One of the only places open on Independence Day in Lancaster. Kudos for that. There's no better way to celebrate the good ol' USA than eating Thai food. All I wanted were veggie fresh rolls. I got Veggie fresh rolls. They were very fresh and tasty. I hope to try more soon - but I was in a rush to shoot some illegal chinese fireworks. God Bless America.

A little disappointed. If you're used to authentic Thai food, this place is NOT for you. The place is clean, and the food is Americanized Thai. The service is quite slow, so best to BYOB (which they allow) to pass time.

    (2)
  • Brian F.

The decor is attractive but the food is quite disappointing. There is a uniform flavor that seems to recur in most of the hot dishes, and it isn't lime, lemongrass or chili. The curries are acceptable but they taste pretty much out of the can Mae Sri formula from the Asian Emporium grocery. The salads are where the disappointment is exquisite. Lifeless, limp messes on the plate without any of the distinctive combinations of flavors which are the hallmark of Thai food. Service we found to be pretty good, though we hid our disappointment from the staff. Bottom line: pleasant place to take a date especially if all you know about Thai food is Pad Thai.

  • A E.

For me, it's bordering on 2.5, but I'll stick with 3 stars. The food was decently spiced, and I can't point out any obvious technical flaws, but to be honest I don't think I saw anything that wouldn't be on the menu of virtually very Thai restaurant I've seen in the US. One important thing to note is that in a large group, one half of the table was served, and after a very long delay most of the second half, and then very slowly the remaining few plates. I know it was a large group, but when you're sitting down and you're either looking hungrily at the food, or realize someone is doing it to yours while the meal remains in a complete standstill...people notice that kind of pause.

I've been to Sukhothai twice; once for lunch, where I got chicken Pad Thai, and once for dinner, where I got chicken Panang Curry. FOOD: The food here is fairly good and reasonably priced. I got Pad Thai during their lunch special for $8.95. I wasn't impressed; it was fairly dry. I ordered mango sticky rice for dessert--DIVINE. This is one of my favorites desserts, period, and Sukhothai does a damn good one. For dinner a few weeks ago, I got chicken Panang Curry. The curry sauce was yummy, the chicken was cooked tenderly, I just felt I didn't have enough sauce. It could have been due to the fact that the curry is served in a fairly shallow plate instead of a bowl. It was spicy, which I like and expect from Thai curries, and had a good balance of coconut milk to make the sauce creamy. SERVICE: The service was poor, but in their defense, it was an extremely busy night for them. We waited for a while before anyone even acknowledged us asking how many were in our party. The waiter checked on us just once and didn't even come around to ask if we wanted dessert. It was also incredibly loud, due to all the customers present, but I did not have that experience during my lunch there, so I don't think it's a generally loud restaurant. FINAL THOUGHTS: All in all, I like Sukhothai; it's the best Thai food I've had in Lancaster city.

Has been here for a couple of times. Nice environment. Slow service. The food is generally okay depends on what you ordered. But I do think oka has stolen a big amount of their customers haha

Food is excellent, probably the best drunken noodles and hot and sour soup around IMO since there are many to choose from. Service could use a little work

So disappointed! Heard it was the best in the area. I sure hope not because this was not good. Worst Pad See Ew I have ever had. Would not even call it that- it was just a bad noodle dish!

Parking can be a little tricky because there are 2 entrances. Once you are in, the decor is beautiful. But that's when it all changes. The staff is super friendly, but the service is extremely extremely slow. To get a menu after being seated 20 minutes + was like pulling teeth. Forget getting drinks. You will have to wait another 20 minutes + for someone to come take your drink order. That slow. We came on a week night that wasn't busy either and yes, the food took forever to arrive at the table. The food is just ok. Not bad or disgusting in any way but not the authentic bold flavors that you would taste in Thai cuisine. Very mild.

Right near the Lancaster Arts Hotel in the same brick building as Fenz, SukhoThai is a beautiful zen space and BYOB with good attention to wine, as others stated (they have both red and white glasses). And I agree that the coconut rice is as good as a fancy rice pudding. Our excellent waiter Aaron helped us find the vegan entrees, because many items are prepared with fish sauce, and they do not keep a non-fishy sauce on hand any more, so watch out, vegetarians. I always know this is a risk with Thai food, and a smart server is a must. Aaron was very attentive and energetic and did not treat us like pains because we used the word "vegan." The coconut soup I was craving was made with chicken stock, bummer, none for me. I loved my mango salad with cashews, and my spouse's red curry was delicately flavorful. I could not detect any spice at the medium spice he ordered. We have noticed that medium in places like NJ is almost so hot that we can't stand it. When I get the curry, I will ask for hot spice. I like that a dish is a regular veggie dish, and you can add tofu, cashews, or meat, so veggers get a bit of a break. I don't consider it a surcharge. The prices are a few dollars higher than our Reading Thai places, but it is worth it for the elegant environment. Oh, and one thing a place this nice in terms of color, lighting, tables, and art needs is REAL chopsticks. All they have are disposable wooden ones. Just make a run to Chinatown and pick up the long white acrylic ones which are very inexpensive and look/feel great! All of the staff is very nice and welcoming. It is always great to see an upscale affordable BYOB. If there are more in Lancaster, I'd like to find them. We will be back and will be hoping for some alternatives to the fishsauce so we can explore more menu items, because Thai food is a beloved cuisine for us which is harder to create on your own at home.

Dined last week at the new Sukhothai location off Harrisburg Ave, excited about Sukhothai's move to the city from Mountville. Parking at Champion Forge is notoriously stingy, so we took advantage of a beautiful late evening to walk to dinner. The restaurant's decor and ambiance is creative and intimate. We were in the mood for drinks, having forgotten that liquor at Sukhothai is BYO. Trying to stick with "exotic" we ordered the next best thing: Thai iced tea. We were disappointed when the server returned to tell us that they were "out". As we speculated how they could serve Thai coffee and iced-tea, but not Thai iced tea, we each made our food selections. The apps were terrific, and the entrees were tasty too. This, despite our server's bizarre comment when placing my curry that the "cook must be asleep." I didn't know what that meant then, and I still don't, but since I experienced no intestinal distress, it couldn't be all that bad. Then we noticed that someone at an adjacent table was served Thai iced-tea. Another mystery. Satisfied with our meal, we were a little surprised at how much we spent. Without alcohol or dessert, we still topped $25 per person after tipping. This is at the high end of what we're willing to pay in Lancaster, for very good, albeit uninspired Thai food, particularly with the mediocre service we received. But the quality of the decor and the convenience of the location will almost certainly bring us back, toting our own bottle-of-something to help us overlook the little inconsistencies and prepare us for the bill.

The food is so fresh and good but takeout is NEVER ready when they say it will be and it's about $5.00 more per entree than it really needs to be. $15.00 for one order of red curry chicken is too much. I think theirs is better than Cafe East, my second favorite.

  • Michael S.

Sorry to say that we were really disappointed in the food here. I noticed that another reviewer commented that Sukohthai's food lacked the "complex flavors of good thai" and I'd say that I agree with that assessment. I could tell that the restaurant used high-quality ingredients to prepare our food, but it largely lacked flavor. The papaya salad, for example, didn't have that balance of salty/sour/umami that I'm used to. The best dish was a panang curry, but even it could have used more punch. We ordered takeout and were told that it would be ready in 30 minutes; it took almost 50 minutes. The staff and owners here are really nice. I hope that they can work out some of these kinks, hire a new chef, and turn things around.

Poor service! Had the shrimp rolls-very good and the si ew. Big pile of mushy noodles with raw veggies and shrimp. Very bland and unappetizing. Not sure if I'll go here again.

When I want Thai food, I come here...I think these guyz are great...itz either this or I have to go to a real city to acquire "close to authentic" Thai cuisine. This restaurant is BYOB/BYOW. Definite thumbs up!

  • Amanda M.

Oh, Sukhothai... How you do me so right and yet so wrong at the same time. Yes, the food is unequivocally delicious. The coconut rice alone is worth the trip. But, the prices! Vegetable noodle dishes or curries are $13! And the vegan surcharge!! If you want to add tofu to your meal: $1.50 extra. For TOFU. Even at lunch, when I choose to have no meat (which is included in the price) they STILL will charge $1.50 extra for the tofu. Not fair. The new space on Harrisburg is beautiful, yes, but I would rather have the old strip- mall space and not have to pay so much for vegetables and rice!

  • Julie S.

After reading reviews I was hesitant to go here but we ate here tonight and it was good. We had crab wontons, they were awesome, you could actually see the big pieces of crab in them. Others in our group had the coconut soup and really enjoyed it. For dinner we had the Pad Si Ew, red curry chicken and sweet and sour chicken. Although they were all good the sweet and sour was the best. We requested the spice to be a little more then medium and it was perfect, not too hot but not too bland. We will absolutely be back. Service was good too!

Not bad.. ---------- FOOD: Its thai, sooo... thai. Anyway, nearly everything on the menu is vegetarian and meat is added if you want. My dinner was really good and my dinner companions really enjoyed their soup. DECOR: Its a nice little restaurant in the thai style. Wood tables, Buddhas on the wall, etc.. SERVICE: Very friendly. The friendly wait staff came around often. Its BYOB and they will bring ice and pour it for you. ---------- WOULD I GO AGAIN? Sure, its not bad. Good food and nice atmosphere..

It wasn't good and it wasn't bad either. I agree with previous comments about the lack of complex Thai flavors. The ingredients used are fresh but my curry entree was rather bland! Good location and nice decor though...

We've tried Thai from CA to NC, and this is as good as we've experienced. And, with a very nice decor, as well. Note that this has moved from Mountville into Lancaster, on Harrisburg Pike, just east of F & M, between Rosa Rosa and Fenz.

owners of this restaurant assume that people spend their lives in Lancaster and have no idea what Thai food should taste like. i read reviews that food is not really authentic but one of the reviewers that seems to understand Thai food recommended panang. while staying at hotel next door and having limited food choices i decided to try that place. i ordered panang and it was just awful. i asked for fish sauce that made slight improvement. I spoke with someone who appeared to be owner and was told that restaurant specializes in American Thai food (have no idea what that means). when i told her that it would be nice if that was disclosed on a menu, she looked at me like i was crazy. i also had hot and sour soup that did not have a touch of lemon grass and all vegetables were simply raw. I was there after 8 pm and place looked pretty empty, but water brough main dish while we still were eating soup. if you have any idea what good thai food is stay away from this place

This place isn't readily noticeable from the road, as it is in a shopping center designed to look like it fits with the cookie-cutter condo complex directly behind it. You would be surprised with how dull the shopping center looks from the outside, that Sukhothai would have such a cool atmosphere INside. It's a cozy little place with large scenic photo prints on the walls, and a wooden lattice-like ceiling with paper lanterns and stuff hanging from it (at least that is how it looks in my mind at the moment). This place is BYOB, but it's the kind of BYOB where the wait staff really attends to your brought beverage. They immediately bring out an ice bucket for you for bottle storage, as well as glasses. They even open the wine/drink for you and begin pouring glasses. Yeah, this is the way it should be, but I have been to plenty of places where it hasn't. I really love the food that I have had here. I mean, really really. I would give this place 5 stars, but it is still quite new to me, and I have only sampled a few menu items. But the menu items I've had... EXCELLENT. The big feature for me is the soups they serve. They are mainly curried fresh vegetable soups to which you can add different meats if you like (chicken, beef, shrimp, etc), and you can choose the level of "heat" or spiciness. The heat level is a scale of 1-10. I LOVE spicy foods, so I usually go for at least an 8 or 9, which is enough to get me a bit runny-nosed and teary-eyed by the end of the meal, but not overly heated. The next time I'll just have to go all out and try level 10. Anyway, the soups are what I keep going back for. They are so flavorful and fresh, and the blend of Thai seasonings really compliments the flavor nicely. I will be returning many times to try more of the menu, but TRY THE SOUPS!

I would not exactly call this authentic Thai food. I believe somebody mentioned they consider it "Americanized" Thai, and my Thai friend tells me "That not Thai!". However, the food is high quality, the staff is pleasant, and the decor inviting, so I recommend you try it at least once if you live in the area.
