Derrick is a super friendly and nice guy, and I can say is he can Bring it!!! It's a small neighborhood place with nice atmosphere friendly people.

Came in on a Tuesday at 1:30pm and the whole place was closed with no sign on the door? Not from the area - does anyone know if it's closed down? I really wanted to try it Please remember I didn't try the food! I was just upset it was closed for no apparent reason - will try again another day and update this review

Soul Food at it's best! The fried chicken and pork chops were just like the food from back home in eastern North Carolina. The portions were more than amble. If we ever make it back the Lancaster again, we will be back!

This restaurant hit all the marks, comfortable homey atmosphere, delicious food, and extremely welcoming and attentive staff. The owners waited on us, explained menu items, made recommendations, and assured our experience was to our liking. We loved the cabbage, mac'n'cheese, and fried fish, generous portions to the point I had more than enough for lunch the next day. Looking forward to our next visit.

Been meaning to find this place for a long time and I was not disappointed. Ordered fish with greens and black Eyed peas. Picked mac and cheese side for my daughter and got it all to go. Service was fast and friendly. The menu is short but they have off menu specials and what they do have is excellent. The food was excellent and my daughter destroyed her mac and cheese with a smile. It was favoribly compared to grandma's baked mac and cheese. High praise indeed.

Holy yum!! Amaaazing food! The menu isn't huge but so what, everything is wonderful. They deliver certain times, but the manager has gone out of his way to deliver to our place of business outside of regular delivery times. Can't get enough of this soul food!

Nice decor and a great selection of soul food favorites. Dine-inor take-out. Owners Derrick and Elizabeth are friendly and customer focused. Try the fried chicken, collard greens and mac n' cheese but leave room for sweet potato pie :-)

Stopped in yesterday for take out and check out the new soul food place that just opened. When you pull up it is a simple brick building that use to house a pizzeria. Place not busy which was nice because I wanted to get home to do some yard work... I go inside...Little dark but it was a cloudy/rainy anyhow. I was greeted with smile and a friendly "hello". Jazz playing in the back ground, talk/singing coming from the kitchen. The menu was a simple one... Not a over loaded menu like some places do... I place my order of Jerk chicken, collards, and mac & cheese. Bill was under $10.00 with tax... I waited a few minutes to get my food. I grab the bag damn it was heavy and the aroma was taking over my sense and control to not eat the food unit I get home... As I am leaving I get a thank you for coming and have a great rest of the day... I get home crack the take out container open, grab a beer and dive in... Might I say the food was fabulous... I got the Jerk chicken with collards and Mac & cheese... I is all done right and to my surprise there was rice in it too... First I try the mac and cheese very yummy and traditional soul M&C, next is the collards. Delish... Tender, nice flavor, lil bite of heat, not a lot of sweetness to it and not bitter at all, next was the rice is was good especially with the jerk spice from the chicken mixed in, now the star of the show the jerk chicken, A chicken leg quarter: Tender to the point of fall off the bone and very flavorful. It what I was looking for... Jerk'd Chicken!!! I will be back to try something else and get me a slice of the sweet potato pie with my next meal... Give it a try... You won't go home hungry or broke...

Recently moved to Lancaster area and we had a taste for some soul food. Dug out Yelp, saw the reviews and the rest is history.... VERY good food. We ordered four meals and all four were satisfied. Menu is small, but better to do a few things very well than many things average. Only rated as 4 star as we did takeout will try dine in experience and rate again. Maybe a 5! Highly recommend..

First time here although I drive past often. Small menu but when everything on it is exactly what you want, it doesn't have to be large. It's a soul restaurant and you get what you expect as far as options go, ribs, pork chops, chicken and fish. What was unexpected was the quality of the food. It was obvious it was fresh and cooked only when I ordered it. I got the mixed meal of fish and fried chicken. It came with two sides and corn bread and cost $11.99. It's enough food for three meals. The mac and cheese, well, I'm going to call and ask how much for a bucket of their mac and cheese. I ordered black beans and got black eyed peas instead but it didn't matter, they were perfectly cooked and perfectly seasoned. There were tons of side options, it was hard to pick only two. My son who is nine (and can be picky) after eating asked why we haven't gone there before. I ordered my food to go during the lunch rush and was still out of there in 15 minutes. I'll be back many times. Thank you Soul!

Lancaster needs Soul. That's why I'm writing this review. My wife and I, after reading the upbeat introductory article about the recently-opened restaurant in Lancaster Online, decided to give it a try for an early dinner on Saturday night. Soul is a restaurant that we really want to see be successful. Having a place to go in Lancaster for fried, BBQ and jerked chicken, baked mac and cheese, collard greens, sweet potato pie and other soul food staples would be a welcome addition to our local dining options. So I wish I could say that I wholeheartedly recommend Soul as a dining option. Instead, I highly recommend it, but with some caveats. If you don't have time to read my full review, here's the short version: very tasty food, but also a work in progress in the service department. First, the FOOD: I had jerked chicken, baked mac and cheese, and collard greens, with an extra side of candied yams. My wife had BBQ chicken with sides of cabbage and baked mac and cheese. Other side choices include green beans, potato salad, and several others. We both thought that the food tasted fresh, homemade, and well-prepared. The jerked chicken (one leg and one thigh, and served on a bed of rice) was flavorful and tender, though I tend to like spicy jerk, so personally I'd opt for a bit more kick. Nonetheless, it had a nice jerked flavor and I'd definitely order it again. Ditto for my wife's BBQ chicken. Also a leg and a thigh, lightly sauced with a sweet yet tangy BBQ flavor. They had sweet potato pie on the menu, but we were both pretty full, so we opted to save that for our next visit. Each meal is $8.99 with your choice of a meat and two sides. Now, the areas where they still have some room to get better: The process for ordering food is a little confusing and inefficient. You order at the counter, and then proceed to an open table if you are dining in. They give you the option of paying before OR after you eat. I think it would be easier if they settle on one method and always do it the same way to prevent the waitress from having to remember for each table. Meal delivery was slow and didn't seem to have any priority for feeding the earlier arrivals first. The restaurant was rather crowded the day we stopped by, and almost every table was occupied, but literally nobody had food yet. Not a single table was eating any food. We were about the 8th couple to arrive, and all the other tables had people just sitting and waiting for food while nursing their soda or water. Some appeared to be getting rather frustrated and impatient. And yet somehow, our food was the first meal delivered from the kitchen. As you might imagine, this didn't seem to sit well with all the other people in the restaurant who had clearly been waiting a lot longer for their meals. We actually even noticed some confusion at other tables on what the customers had ordered. There are also no appetizers available. If you order food that is going to take a while to prepare - and this isn't a bad thing, as you know your food will be hot, fresh and homemade when it arrives - it would at least be good for the waitress to let you know ahead of time that there will be a certain wait time for your meal. They could also make the wait more pleasant by having some fresh-baked cornbread or other finger food to bring out to the tables for patrons to enjoy while they wait for their meal. How to fix this? (Manager/Owner - please note!) The restaurant desperately needs some form of numbering system for customer orders, both to ensure order accuracy and also to make it easier for the server to locate the proper recipients of each plate of food. Relying on memory might work OK with two or three tables at a time, but certainly not with 8, 9 or 10 groups of people. It should be fairly easy to do this: "OK. Thanks for your order. You are number 36. Please place this number sign on your table, and your food will be out just as soon as we have cooked it. In the meantime, here is a basket of cornbread for you to enjoy." Despite the shortcomings, we both liked Soul very much. It has a down-home and fresh-cooked vibe that will have us coming back to try other menu items again soon. Give them a chance, as the wait is worth it. In fact, give them a second chance. Opening a new restaurant takes some time to work out the kinks, but clearly the owners know how to make delicious food. Let's help keep this flavorful restaurant up and running for a long time!
