Best po-boy sandwich around! Jambalaya and crawfish macaroni and cheese are incredible!

My husband and I came to this establishment tonight for take out. We came here several years back and I left feeling underwhelmed and we have not been back until tonight. I was wanting some take out that was not the same old thing and I remembered that they had hush puppies. I am from the South and I love my hush puppies. My impression when walking in was that the place was still as cluttered, confusing and dirty as before. The lady who took our order never made eye contact and seemed to be having a bad day. I ordered hushpuppies, boudain, a oyster po boy and a fish po boy. It took awhile for us to get our order as one person was cooking. The hushpuppies were burnt and dry, my oyster po boy was disappointing. The oysters tasted like they were frozen and it was drowning in mayo. The Boudain was terrible but not sure if that is what it is supposed to taste like or not. So I will chalk that one up to me just not liking it. We have been here twice and each time regretted it. We will not be back.

The food looked and smelled good but I didn't get a chance to eat it. The cashier acted I like I was an inconvenience and I was charged nearly $10 for a grilled cheese and fries. After ringing me up and not washing her hands she handled my food with bare hands and started to prepare it. I was going to let it go but then she also wiped down all the dirty tables, wiped her nose, and handled dirty dishes. I cancelled my order and left. Plus it's against food code to handle deli meats with bare hands which is precisely what they do. I can handle bare hand contact but not without washing hands. That's just gross.

I really enjoy their sandwiches and sloppy chips. Had a few desserts that were all tasty. Only critique would be atmosphere. Ditch the plants and fish too large for the pond. It gives it a less than clean feel. This has no reflection of food quality or service which is always good.

Had the blackened chicken po boy and it tasted ok when I could get a bite of chicken and not just bread ,mayo and lettuce ( very little chicken) also had the chili.... If you want to call it that.!..it was thick pasty and had no flavor and was cold!, inside of place was clean but forgettable and boring

Had the crawfish poboy. a little pricey for the size, but overall very good taste. It is now on the list for the occasional lunch out of the office. read other reviews commenting on the atmosphere regarding signs and such. didnt find them to be significant and not obtrusive. would not have noticed if they had not been mentioned.

I've eaten here numerous times, both seated and carryout. You can get jambalaya, gumbo, 5-alarm chili, various sides, etc., but the bulk of the menu is sandwiches. Prices for a meal w/bottomless soft drink usually range between $10-&15, which is not much different than most non-franchise local places. I have had only good sandwiches here. I can get a cheesesteak anywhere, so I order the muffaletta or BBQ pork or something like that. The cajun/creole sandwiches and other dishes here manage to distinguish this place from the other 500 sandwich shops in town, and the food is good enough that I don't pay attention to the bland decor. I just go back to reading the complementary newspaper and enjoy my meal...

***IN RESPONSE TO THE COMMENT FROM MANAGEMENT: I tend to only come on here and review after I've been surly disappointed by an establishment, which is why most of my reviews only have 1 or 2 stars. There are plenty of businesses I frequent, and don't often review these places, because I already give them plenty of support by being a frequent customer and spending my money- where I'm given what I pay for with good deals, service, and great food. This was not one of them. I would like to know what Brian disagrees with exactly? I hope he's not disagreeing with me about the rude actions of the cashier, or the misspelled signs and "rules", or the fact that the rolls were small for the price of the subs. These are facts. I would also like to comment that I'm rather irritated my review went under filtered, when I am an honest customer who did not appreciate the way the person taking my order treated me, nor the gouging prices for sub-par food, nor the fact that other reviewers seemed to not care what they were getting or how much they paid for it, or ignored all the things I saw. Maybe I go into a new restaurant with a critic's mind, and tend to notice things others wouldn't. Maybe I was there on a really bad day as far as the cleanliness of the restaurant went, but I do know on our visit the place appears to be run very unprofessionally.

We came in here for lunch. The place was very clean, and the menus were clearly posted. We used a restaurant.com coupon and they were very strict about making the $22.50 minimum being before taxes were applied. So I kept having to add cookies to make the minium. Even when it was off by a few cents. The food was excellent. I had the popcorn crawfish basket, and although the portion was a little on the small side, it was very satisfying. My sister had the pastrami swiss melt, and although at first look it didn't seem all that spectacular, it proved to be one of the best, leanest pastrami sandwiches she had ever had. And they weren't skimpy with the meat. I will definitely be back here the next time I am in the area.

I just went to Sloppy Janes cafe for lunch with a small child. I agree with other reviewers this is not a child friendly restaurant. There are no highcharis, boosters or children's menu. However I ordered corn fritters and sweet potato tots because I could not decide on just one. I thought I will take the leftovers home. I ate all of both of them and the pork sandwich too. The little one picked at my food and seemed content. The owner was firiendly and the service was fast. I will defiantly go again with my husband or daughter, but not with the little one.

Wow...it's been a long time since I had a Po-Boy! It was delicious just like I remembered from New Orleans! The bread is crisp yet soft, the shrimp were fried just right and the dressings.....AWESOME. My mouth is watering just writing about it. They have a good selection of hot sauces too!

She says: I chose to go for their specialty, a bbq sand. I pick the sandwich up and it drips a good 1/2 cup of meat liquid into the basket. 1st bite=fat. Uh-oh....He says: I went with the oyster po-boy with creole mayonaisse. At 1st sight, it looked exactly like the sandwiches I was used to seeing when living in Louisiana. At 1st bite, it was as good as or better than any oyster po boy i've ever had. She says: I lovingly went head and mouth first into the creamy, crispy corn nuggets. I got full right away, and who am I kidding?- i totally slammed the sandwich down with little hesitation. He says: I liked her sandwich. Smoky and tangy. Didn't like the de'cor, but it was very clean. She had to go to the bathroom yet again, and when I caught her lingering along the corridor, I went to see what was going on. She says: I was drawn to snapshots. Pet picture cemetery. As much as I loved seeing the cute animals in happier days, I was slightly brought down thinking that one day, I too, may lose a loved one. OVERALL: We liked it enough to go again. He got the muffaletta sandwich to try later, so stay tuned!
