Took a friend here tonight for her birthday. She had never had Japanese food or anything outside of Lancaster, Pennsylvania. Sad in itself, but I thought I would surprise her with the fantastic food I have had there on other occasions and the experience of having it prepared in front of you. Started out with a lovely waitress named Jane, try and get her if you can. But unfortunately the owner/manager/host..... had something up his ass tonight because he treated my 68 year old friend like she was 99 years old, deaf and dumb. We ended up having to change tables due to his inconsistencies and he " punished us", by having us wait alone at a table for another waitress for OVER 25 minutes. When my friend asked me to take her home. I felt bad that she was not able to experience the lighter, brighter, more fun atmosphere that I have myself received at this restaurant on previous occasions. But tonight the owner/manager/host..... made it very clear that he was not going to serve us in any gracious welcoming manner. Reluctant for my friend not to have a good experience but feeling her stress ............ the owner kept looking at us, saying nothing, offering no explanation, or any apology,........ finally we left and went to some restaurant on one of the Pikes nearby. Nothing spectacular nothing terrible nothing to write about. Just another chain with two gracious waitresses. The owner/manager/host.....definitely needs, several serious courses........ excuse the pun.........in manners. Kudos to anyone who works for him....... my hat is off to you. To the tall grouchy owner/manager/host....... with the attitude of indifference, SHAME ON YOU! You disgraced not only the restaurant this evening, but your country. You may not care that you lost only two customers tonight, but I promise you, 222 people will hear about it. Shame on you.

I love hibachi and do find that the food is very good here. That being said, the service doesn't quite match. Unfortunately, every time I come here I feel rushed. They don't like if you stick around for a little afterwards and have a few drinks, they make you feel unwelcome. The servers rarely come back to check if you need anything. It's disappointing because the food is very good but when you don't feel comfortable and can't even sit back and relax a little, then it just ruins every thing. Never understood people who choose to work in the customer service industry but are terrible at it.

High quality, great presentation, and good service. Not very busy for lunch as they open mainly for dinner. For the price, the quality and presentation of sushi are great. The rolls are large and filling. So the fish to rice ratio favors more of the fish (awesome). Overall a nice place for sushi.

Update to older review (of 8/4/13): Chef Jay is no longer the sushi chef. The management made some renovations to make the sushi bar longer, however, the atmosphere is really not improved and was previously lacking, at least in the sushi bar area. The times I've been since Chef Jay left, I rolls were not well made and the sushi was cut very thin. Chef Jay made the experience worth it; without him, there are better options in the area for sushi.

The fried rice is not cooked right, it's kinda raw in the middle. The shrimp is too small and the tea is way to strong... Also they missed my order. My scallops are late. I don't know what to say about this place.doesn't worse the money...

I honestly was a little skeptical coming into Ichiban, I mean come on, how good could sushi be in Lancaster? I was completely blown away by the quality, and was very satisfied. We had 4 specialty rolls, all of which were amazing, with appropriate pricing as well. Needless to say, next time I return to the area this place will be on the top of my list! Ichiban is certainly a gem of the area! If you like sushi, try it out.

If you have eaten at a Japanese Teppanaki place where you sit as a group around the table while the chef cooks and entertains you.....you know the drill I can sum it up by saying the chef was entertaining and cooked with skill, the food was great and fairly priced for the quality and they have a full bar. It is as good as any place of this type I have gone to including the big chain that made this style of restaurant famous. They have sushi so a sushi app is an option also. I would not hesitate to go back...and will since I will be working in this area for a few months.

First, expect higher prices than the area usually dictates. Seafood dishes run $25 and up (way up!). The show on the grill is a real fun thing to watch. As for the food, it has a high sodium taste which would have tasted better if the waitress had brought the rice out sooner. Tasting the meal without rice is too salty and almost indelible. The soup was simple pork flavor. Not bad. The salad only had ginger dressing and an unappealing taste. No alternate dressings. I'd say 3.5 stars. Would have been 4 if the rice had come sooner

My first impression is that this location is very dark inside. The food is good and the teppanyaki chefs are very skilled and entertaining. Try the plum wine!

I never had a big problem with this place until the last time I was there which was a few days ago. I ate shrimp and fried rice and from that I got really bad food poisoning. I feel like since we were near closing time, the chef felt rushed and didn't prepare my food properly. I was so sick all night! The man who served us our drinks told us they were closing at 10, even tho we called ahead on our way to make sure it was ok for us to come. I thought it was kind of rude of him to remind us, because we knew and that's why we called ahead and asked if it was ok. Not to mention, the place needs a facelift, especially the bathrooms! Mold is growing everywhere. I don't think we will come back until things have changed.

My husband and I took our 2 toddlers here this past weekend for Mother's Day. The kids had a blast and our chef was awesome. He was funny, the food was great, and service was even better!

Nice little gem next to the K-Mart. The fish is good. The rolls are creative. And the service is warm and welcoming. What more could you ask from a place located in a strip mall. Great find.

If you are coming for sushi look no further they have fresh grade a quality sushi and serve it in style. I love it. I don't have any feedback on the hibachi but looks good from the sushi bar.
