went on 7/19 before going to Hershey Park with my dad and before my mom and sister went to see the Paramore concert. Food was delicious and the waitress was nice. Don't use the bathroom (if you are a guy) because it was messy in the stalls. It looked like they never cleaned in there. All i can say is this. Food: XD Bathrooms: :P

This place is a great place for home cooking and large menu. We travel and like to find diners for affordable food and variety. Open 24 hours except closed Monday.

Great breakfast and service. Exactly what you need for a good start to your day. Not sure why some had a bad experience.

We go here a few times a year when we visit Hershey for breakfast. Going again this Saturday.. Can't wait. Great breakfast food. Love the classic Diner look too.

I ate here while visiting relatives in the area over Christmas break. This restaurant was once a Dempsey's (a knock-off of Denny's) and I basically lived here as a teenager...over 20 years ago. It was Christmas night, not much was open, otherwise I probably would have kept on driving. The decor has changed only slightly (newer lights, booth fabric changed), but it looked clean. The menu is a typical diner menu. I figured the open-faced turkey sandwich would be safe. And it was, even though the gravy was slightly gelatinous, the flavor was good and the turkey tasted fresh. The french fries were really good. The corn was flavorless...definitely from a can. My niece had the chicken croquettes, which were shaped like Madonna's boobs, circa 1990. Despite the shape, the croquettes were tasty and not overly bread-y, seemed homemade, as the menu claimed. I won't go out of my way to eat here next time I'm in the area, but if it's late at night and nothing else is open I won't have to starve.

Old American experience. I was on a business trip and had my share of food chain meals, so it was great to find this place which is surrounded by franchises. It has personality and the staff was pleasant and tried to give a good experience. Food servings where plenty, nothing too memorable but it was fresh ans tasty. Furniture is tired but clean.

The food, decor, and service are all subpar. Avoid this place like the plague and visit some of the other spots in town instead. There are several places that would gladly serve you a better meal, with a smile I might add. This is not one of them.

Clean, Fresh food, Personable staff and packed late on a Friday night with that old Pennsylvania charm. I mean you really can't complain about a solid diner - especially since it isn't named Double T. The Caesar salad I ordered was mild and filling and the sausage and cheese omelet was on point. Prices are relatively inexpensive and the staff is extremely friendly. Perfect place to stop off after a late night concert in Hershey.

Just went there for breakfast today. I ordered the eggs benedict and my friend and her son ordered pancakes and some eggs. BOTH of them found different hairs in their food. I could not finish eating mine as I was totally grossed out. They still had the nerve to charge me for mine and for their drinks. Until the hair incident the food tasted good and the waitress was very nice until we found the hair. They never even offered for us to have new plates made. Very weird experience and not very customer service friendly.

I know the banner on the side of the little building that reads "$3.95 for a full breakfast" seems enticing, but DO NOT come here!! The place is old, dirty and pretty run-down. I came here with some friends one night randomly for dinner and ordered a bowl of soup/ chili and a salad..... neither of which were particularly edible. My friends ordered sandwiches which also did not seem appetizing. When I look back on that night, I regret not opting to go to the KFC next door.

It was ok. Prices fair. Lots of french fries for all the kids and they got a ice cream with their meals. Jersey has better diners always hard to compare to a jersey diner..

We come here when we visit Hershey Park during the New Year's Eve celebration. I'm not sure why we come. The patrons definitely look at us a bit closely. I guess we stick out a bit. Nonetheless, the wait staff is always pleasant. The food is so-so. Typical diner food but on the greasier side. The place needs to be updated as it is dingy and old looking. You're better driving to chain spot for food.

We ate at this diner last night and travelled over an hour to check it out. We were really impressed. We frequent many diners and were pleased with this one. I had the Chicken Croquettes and my husband had the burger and fries. We will be eating our leftovers today as they serve very huge portions. Very tasty diner food. Our waitress was so "colorful" and attentive and was a wonderful server. We didn't get her name but she sported a sassy pigtail. We both ate for under $20 and would definitely travel the 90 minutes to eat there again.

I was really expecting a great PA diner experience at the Cocoa Diner, but this place is awful. The "double thick milkshake" was as thin as milk. The cheeseburgers were a mess. The buns were dry and the meat was flavorless and dry, despite being ordered as medium (not ultra well done as they came). Oddly, the menu pictured the burger with American cheese, but it was served with rubbery swiss. The only parts of the meal that were enjoyable were the fries and the friendly waitress who apologized to us for the sorry state of our burgers (she said that the kitchen is "tenacious" when it comes to cooking to order). It's really sad when a diner can't even make a good burger - imagine what the rest of the menu is like.

I absolutely love this place!! I go here for breakfast every Saturday and love their food. I have had a few other meals there as well and have yet to be disappointed. The service is wonderful!!! I definitely recommend this place.

While a previous reviewer here had nothing good to say about the Cocoa Grill, I, on the other hand, can say some positive things. This is the second time this year (2010) that I have gone to the diner for both breatkfast and lunch. Today I met my neighbor for breakfast. After reviewing the menu I asked the waitress to order as she saw fit, (knowing the prices) and I asked for 2 eggs scrambled, hash browns, toast and 2 pancakes. She quickly knew which way to order this to save me money. My neighbor got the same but with bacon and sausage and a side order of hash browns with onions. I got a Coke and my friend got coffee. Our food arrived quickly and I was surprised at the quantity of it. I took pictures because I can honestly say I believe we got our money's worth. My bill was $10.70. The waitress checked back several times to see if everything was ok. The eggs were good and the pancakes were ok. No worse, no better than another other restaurant. The clientele was of a mixed age group. Many seniors there at that time. I would say the food is not spectacular but not bad either. Service is friendly and speedy.

I'm not sure why Nick has his panties in a bunch, because this place is great! Diners are quickly going extinct and this one is one that I hope is around for a while. Anyone who eats there regularly knows that the food is cheap (a rare thing these days), the portions are huge, and the wait staff (most of them) are very friendly! It seems to still be trying to find it's identity because it switches often between "The Cooca Grill" and "The Cocoa Diner". Great diner food at a great price!

Had breakfast here a couple of times when on a trip. I took a gamble and it was worth it. I agree with the friendly staff, good food and quick service. Seems like a lot of the older local residents frequent the place. Also, the address listed is wrong, the address in one of the reviews is correct.

After running around Hershey looking for a place to eat before the bears game, this was the only place that had immediate seating compared to one and two hours. The menus are dirty and that should have been a clue. We ordered a pepsi and a brewed tea, and both were to our liking. My wife ordered chicken cocoa? and i ordered a reuben. My reuben had barely four slices of meat. The saurkraut wasn't too bad on it, but the cheese and bread were extremely greasy. The fries were soggy and were like lumps of potato, not fresh or crispy. The cole slaw was good but i don't think they made it. The chicken cocoa that my wife ordered was greasy too. It was a peice of chicken with bacon on a peice of greasy bread from the cheese. The only thing that really was good was the tea and cole slaw, besides that i never see a reason to ever go back. Our waitress didn't even check on us to see how the food was or to refill our drinks until the check came.

Good cheap breakfast, decent coffee, fast, attentive service. I'd stop back here just about any time. Two eggs, bacon, toast, home fries, and coffee for under $5. Yelp seems to map this restaurant to the wrong place. Correct address is 590 E. Main St., Hummelstown

this is not a diner. the food was gross, the employees barely spoke english, i hate chain restaurants but i would recommend the bob evans down the street before this place.

The Cocoa Grill... or the Cocoa Diner as some of it's signs say... is mediocre. None of the food there is particularly bad, but I wouldn't describe it as good either. The coffee is decent and usually fresh as well. Usually we get breakfast because it's one of the only places in Hershey/Hummelstown (that I've found!) that serves breakfast all day long. The pancakes, waffles and french toast are decent. The eggs are sad. The hash browns get your hopes up by looking good and then are soggy and have no crispy to them at all. Burgers are standard diner fare, but nothing to write about. They are cooked and don't make you sick, so, yay? The fries are okay, too. The desserts aren't half bad, but I recommend taking a look at the case before you decide because you might end up with the last hacked up piece otherwise. All of this wouldn't be so bad, but the prices are a bit higher than your standard "diner" prices by about $1 or more. Sometimes we come here at night after a rehearsal with a group and they don't have any problem with us moving the tables around. The staff is polite, but not particularly attentive. I usually have to remind them to refill my coffee. One thing that really turns me off about this place is that people still smoke in there which I find to be disgusting and illegal.

For anyone who's been hanging around the Fast Food District of Hummelstown since before maybe 2001, you know that this place used to be Dempsey's American Kitchen (a.k.a. The Dump). The Dump was awesome. Killer breakfast, awesome people, frequent loud and entertaining fights among the wait staff and/or cooks. 24-hour breakfast, and all kinds of crazy things went down after midnight. Unfortunately the manager of Dempsey's had a little problem keeping his nose away from a certain white powder, and he also had a little problem keeping his hand out of the cash register to fund his little habit. So the great institution of Dempsey's went down the tubes faster than your pet goldfish when you were 5 years old (that's right - your mom was shamelessly LYING when she told you Nibbles escaped into the ocean!!!). Anyway, the Grill sprung up in the vacated double-wide trailer, owned by some Indian guys that proceded to take a huge dump on the diner's culture and regular clientele. It's now a faceless run-of-the mill diner with average food at best. I wouldn't waste your time going there unless it's the only thing open. So kids, the moral of this story is: don't snort coke or you might ruin a great American institution. Cocoa Grill will never be The Dump, but it sure is A dump!!!

Save your money, it would be cheaper and tastier to eat breakfast at Burger King. I ordered strawberry french toast that looked and tasted like Texas toast with pie filling on top. Also, the syrup came in its own single serve packaging...

We went here on a whim because the place we wanted to go was closed. The food was sub par at best. I had one of the most underwhelming Ruebens I've ever had. My wife had The Dip, it was full of fat and grizzle. My daughter had what amounted to a rubber hamburger and my grand daughter had the fried shrimp....she took 1 bite and wouldn't eat anymore. While the staff was friendly, the food was awful.

Went there for a late breakfast on a Saturday morning. The dining room was busy but we were seated right away, waited on quickly and the food came out very quickly. The spinach bacon and cheese omelet was good, but everyone really enjoyed the hashbrowns! The middle is the consistency of mashed potatoes while the outside is brown and crunchy. We may have just found a new weekend breakfast spot and will definitely be coming back

The entrance is a little unorthodox. The hostess/cashier/ & I will assume the owner does all three of these jobs plus bus boy. The staff was overall friendly. Food, prices & service were overall decent as well. Will I be back? Possibly. However, I am much more interested in trying other places.

The only thing I would ever recommend this diner for would be breakfast. I recently ordered the ham dinner with candied sweet potatoes and a salad. Well, I was served something that looked like cloudy gelatin with a brown lump in the center. It was supposed to be the sweet potatoes. I didn't have the courage to taste it because it looked so disgusting. The salad arrived and the lettuce was so rusty it also went untasted. The ham was dry and tasted very little like ham. I am being generous with the second star, but breakfast at Cocoa is palatable.

I worked a lot of years in NYC ghettos and eaten at some real dumps. This place was as bad as all those. Waitress was nice though.
