Having lived in Central Pa for about 12 years, I have learned to be skeptical about the area restaurants. Not so great around here. So tonight when friends suggested The Mill, I begrudgingly said yes.....my response: EAT HERE! First, we all had shared raw oysters. Fresh and icy cold. I had the pan seared scallops. Very well executed and flavorful. Service was just right and not overbearing. Never thought it would happen, but we actually have a pretty great restaurant in Hershey. Finally.

A cool restaurant in an area not known for its cuisine. At first the hosted seated us downstairs which was a little dark and cramped so we asked to move back to the main floor. The atmosphere is comfortable in the rustic mill with modern accents. Nice beer and wine list. I had the locally made beer which was very good. lobster ceviche was excellent, but a bit small. burgers were very good with home made fries. The salad and added chicken was adequate. I got the fried half chicken. It was a bit greasy, but isn't that what fried chicken is all about? Very tasty and moist. Jalapeño cheesy grits were terrific. Service was fine but a little unpolished for the image they're trying to project.

One of the better meals I've had in Harrisburg area, for sure. Great draft beer selection, had a local stout and my wife had a martini that tasted like liquid girl scout cookie. Good service. Started with the really thick cut bacon. It was pretty much all that I could smell when I walked in, so had to try. Now I'm no bacon connoisseur, but It was honestly the best piece of bacon I'd ever had. Highly recommend it. Moved to pesto shrimp pasta, which was really nicely done, good flavor and fresh seafood. All under a very cool atmosphere- would return for sure.

The Mill is a nice recent addition to the foodie scene in central PA. The decor takes advantage of the historic building and is simple but nice. The service is professional and knowledgable. We enjoyed their calamari which was good but could have used a little more time in the oil. I had a fried cod which was nicely prepared. My wife had an interesting fried chicken sandwich served in a waffle. It was quite good tough again the chicken could have used a few more seconds in the oil. We are looking forward to trying dinner in the near future.

The was our first visit at The Mill. The atmosphere was beautiful. We loved the live music. The drinks are fabulous. And the food was exceptional. Fabulous time and the prices were amazing. I would recommend this restaurant to everyone.

Excellent farm fresh food. Great environment - would be great for a rehearsal dinner.

Hm, surprised this place only has 3.5 stars. Definitely one of the more upscale restaurants in Hershey - great place for a birthday or anniversary. A little on the higher end in terms of prices, and may be a tad overpriced, but I think depending on what you get, it's definitely worth it. Cool vibe and really really loud live music on the weekends. Be sure to make a reservation on the weekends and request to sit on the main level so you aren't deaf by the end of the night. The service has always been really great at the bar and at sit down meals. Cocktails have been kind of strong every time I've gone, but not really complaining there. Food has also been pretty good. The duck has been a stand out for me. Definitely a place worth trying if you feel like splurging!

I really wanted to like this place. Reading the reviews and seeing the menu I thought that I was going to be blown a way. The food was mediocre. Nothing spectacular worthy of the price. I would say the prices are about on par with Devon seafood if not more. We came to the happy hour but ordered some food off of the regular menu including the duck that was mentioned in several other reviews. Happy hour menu: The oysters were good and the primary reason why I chose to come here. I wish more places had buck a shuck. The oysters we were given were called skinny slippers and they were definately not skinny! They were meaty, moist, and deeply cupped. It went down very smoothly with the excellent cocktail sauce and we devoured two dozen quickly. The deviled eggs were delicious. The honey-jalapeño sauce was so good my daughter picked off all the micro greens off the plate. I ordered a Lime in a Coconut that was so "limey" it tasted more like key lime and completely masked the coconut in it. Regular menu: The duck breast was cooked perfectly but just lacked something, I could not tell. It wasn't overly greasy as another reviewer also pointed out and the skin was perfectly crisp. The sun dried red tomato risotto with it was the best part of the plate, a perfect balance of tastes and cooked to perfection. The carrots were also very yummy. This plate was $28 and I don't feel it deserved the tag. The fish and chips are HUGE. It looks like they gave it two 1/2" battered fish. My daughter couldn't finish it. But she said it was tasteless... She said the fries were good. My fiancé had the veal ribs. It was well seasoned, tender, and good. Not stellar, just good. He also had the risotto and coleslaw which he equivocated to a few pieces of sliced celery in white sauce. Dessert: I was told the chef is the pastry chef at the Hotel Hershey. I had a campfire cake. Again, it was alright. Based off an earlier review I thought it would be the stake in what keeps bringing me back to this place. It wasn't. Again the chocolate was too thick and too rich. It drowned out the very ample amount of marshmallow and Graham. The apple gellee was interesting and random. My daughter had the chocolate sorbet with whip cream. The whip cream was flavorlees, literally. It didn't taste sweet nor milky/creamy. It was like putting nothing in my mouth. In contrast the chocolate sorbet was too rich and sweet for her to finish the two scoops she received without whipped cream to tone it down. A dessert that is too rich for a kid, that tells a lot. Service: the service was phenomenal. The waitress was more than attentive and I was impressed with her knowledge of the menu. All in all I think I'll just stick to their happy hour... I won't be clamoring to return.

Crab cake sandwich was delicious. Bacon and crab cakes what could be better? The thick cut bacon and jalapeño corn bread was also very good. Chicken and waffles were huge. Would definitely recommend.

The food was great! Everything was so good! I had dinner in a group of six and I believe we all tried a bite off of each other's plate! Notably I would say the things to stand out the most are the Brussels sprouts, Kale, mash potatoes and my sisters salmon. I ordered the half chicken which was wonderful and the squash vinaigrette pruee was so delicious I actually asked for a little extra to take home! My mom got the bay scallion which I'm always skeptical of eating any type of seafood but these literally melted in your mouth they were delicious! My dad also got the tartare which I don't particularly care for but try to bite of his anyway and it was absolutely to just delicious too! I only give it four stars because when we first walked in the hostess was a little lippy! Nothing to really get uptight about! Also before table it's ready we went to the downstairs bar and I fell unnoticed by the bartenders! Once again nothing to really get my panties in a bunch just a little discouraging but my experience was totally changed to buyer awesome later in the awesome food! Because it was my birthday we finished dinner with a dark chocolate cake I'm not sure of the name because it was ordered without my knowledge, but it was probably one of the best desserts of had a restaurant in a long time! I also had a cappuccino and a put my every morning Starbucks cappuccino to shame!

I'm a local, long true Hershey fan and was excited when they first opened up, but honestly this placed is over-hyped, the food is mediocre and over priced, but the drinks are good. The food is good, consistent, but there's nothing majority special about the menu. However the ambiance is very nice.

I grew up just down the street from The Mill, back when the building it's housed in used to be the office for a coal and stone wholesaler. Imagine my surprise when I discovered that the building had been completely renovated (still using the original brick and stonework) and turned into a restaurant. Naturally, I had to try it. I wasn't expecting anything special, just a typical American fare style menu. What I got instead was a unique setting, a menu catering to a more refined palate, and outstanding service. A word of warning - if you sit outside, you will be inundated with noise, as the building it directly in front a very busy railroad. Again, I grew up mere blocks from the building, so the noise didn't phase me much, but if you're upset by that sort of thing, you'd do better to dine inside. I ordered The Mill Standard Burger (Half-Pound Certified Angus Beef, Brioche, Bibb, Tomato, Porter Cheddar, Bacon, Dijonaise, BBQ - $12), an order of the House Bacon (a thick cut of chewy bacon with a side of cornbread and a honey glaze - $8). Both were quite good. But the dessert was what really blew me away. I ordered the Campfire Cake, which is a marshmallow sandwiched between two slices of graham shortbread crusted with chocolate hazelnut crunch; on the side were two wedges of what I originally took to be baked apples, but which are something called sour apple gelée, which was so delicious I would have happily ordered just a plate of it for dessert instead. The prices are bit steeper than you're going to get at the standard sit down restaurant, but I think it's worth it.

I wish I lived closer so that I could frequent this restaurant on a regular basis!! The atmosphere is amazing with its rustic yet industrial feel. The out door patio looks like it would be great on sunny days (it was unfortunately rainy the day I visited). Service: Everyone we came in contact with was extremely friendly and courteous. Service was prompt and the food came out in a timely fashion. Cocktails: I had the Hibiscus Peach Tea Sangria. It was light and refreshing, but could have used a bit more flavor. Food: To start they have a smoker in house and smoke and cure all their meats in house. We started with the Bacon and Jalapeño Cornbread, which had a great smoky hint and a good deal of heat. We got the Beef and Vegetable Soup, which was one of the BEST soups my girlfriend and I have ever had. It had smoked beef which must have simmered in the great broth for some time because it gave the broth a great smoky hint! Absolutely perfect (it should be on the menu instead of being a soup of the day)!! I then had the Beef brisket sandwich, which had great flavor and was served on a nice soft bun. The side of hand-cut French Fries was perfectly seasoned. Other: So we went during the afternoon and it wasn't busy at all. I can see how it could get very loud as the crowd picks up. Due to the industrial design, there is nothing really to dampen the sound. I see that some people state that it is pricy. I don't think it is pricy in any way!! We got two cocktails, an appetizer, and two soup and half-sandwich meals with fries for roughly $50 total ($25 per person is pretty reasonable for a lunch). This was a random selection for a bite to eat before heading back home after a morning at Hersheypark, and I'm so glad we stopped! Highly recommend!!

First and foremost, this place is expensive. Its not over priced, but it does cost substantially more than some of the surrounding alternatives. Still, you get what you pay for and The Mill is worth every penny. A casual setting with an upper scale menu accurately describes this once functioning Curry Feed Mill now turned eatery. The menu depicts savory selections that are broad enough to satisfy everyone, but not too cumbersome as to sacrifice proficiency. Most everything here can be considered a specialty. In particular, the Maple Farm Duck Breast is to date one of the best meals I have ever had. My entire plate of food blended together in a harmonious flavor that lasted from the first bite to the last swallow. If you are visiting for your first time, and you like duck, I strongly recommend you order this entree. Another highly noteworthy component of my meal was the water. I put a lot of weight into the quality of water a restaurant provides. Mainly because not everyone orders water simply to save money. Some people actually drink water to enjoy it. If you're one of those people, this is the place for you. The Mill offers the best water I have ever had in a restaurant. There have been some runners-up, such as Miso and Maggiano's, but this water wins out in an almost landslide. What's their secret? Well, aside from the water obviously being fresh in nature, perhaps spring or purified, definitely not tap, they go the extra mile by adding a quality slice or two of cucumber in the decanter. If that sounds foreign to you, you're not a devote water drinker, but it doesn't matter. Its cool, its crisp, its delicious. Period. On a final note, The Mill is not only a good restaurant, but a cool building as well. If you haven't done so already, be sure to take the time to visit each floor. Doing so will give you an even greater appreciation for this establishment. They're all slightly different and probably have historical value though I will admit, my only concern was food!

The Mill is beautifully constructed, striking a nice balance between old and new. The interior is very clean, and the staff is knowledgable and professional. The menu offers a nice variety of fish, chicken, and beef options. Water with cucumber was served with bread. I am not a fan of cucumber and would have liked an option for lemon. The bread was stale. I visited The Mill during lunch with my wife. My wife ordered the grilled chicken sandwich and I ordered the brisket sandwich with a side salad. While I am calling it a side salad, the menu actually did not offer side salads; rather, I had to order a dinner salad. I opted for the house vinaigrette over the only other option - blue cheese dressing. The vinaigrette was delicious pairing nicely with the mixed greens, sunflower seeds, apple slices, and skinned smoked cherry tomatoes. While the smoked tomatoes were unique, they were way too potent for the salad. My wife thought that the grilled chicken was juicy and perfectly cooked. She really enjoyed her meal. I, on the other hand, found the brisket to be tough and the portion almost non-existent. In addition, the sandwich was made on a greasy rye type bread instead of a grain roll as the menu indicated. Furthermore, there was more horseradish sauce than meat, and the entire sandwich was soggy. The meat flavor was good. The brisket sandwich should be redesigned. Immediately. Both sandwiches came with fries that were very overcooked and not very exciting. Overall, I am giving it 4 stars because of the atmosphere, professional staff, and clear potential; even though it only earned 3.5 stars. While I was not overly impressed, I will give The Mill one more chance.

We were really looking forward to eating here. Unfortunately it was just OK. Our calamari appetizer was a little greasy, and my rib eye was tough and grizzly, definitely not worth the price. My wife's burger was excellent however and done just right. Service was very good. Based on their prices I think they have to improve a bit before I would go back.

While we were in Hershey for a friends wedding, I was hanging out with a college buddy who lived nearby. He said I needed to stop by the Mill. I asked him if they had beer. He said, yeah. I was like, alright I'm in. First off the building is gorgeous. It was a remodeled train station. It was very open and warm and with great wood work everywhere. You could definitely tell it was a refurbished train station, how do you know that J? Because there was a train that went by that was so close to the building you could reach out and touch it! And the bar manager told me. It was pretty busy when we stopped in. We snagged a seat in the bar area and the bartender came right over to us. He was super nice and really into beer. The Mill had a great beer list. I was able to procure a punkuccino. It's a great Pumpkin brew mixed with coffee. Highly recommend this if you can find it. For food, we ordered the smoked chicken app along with the house bacon app. The smoke chicken had a good smoked to it and the chicken was moist as well. I really liked it. The bacon app was awesome. It was more like a hunk of pork belly with a side of some sort of slaw. It was really delicious. I thoroughly enjoyed these tasty treats. I also dug the atmosphere in there too. Beside the fact that we may have been the youngest people in the place, it still had a good, happening vibe too it. When we went to leave we noticed there was a huge bar in the basement. Looked pretty chill and inviting. We will have to check it out another time. Definitely stop in if you are in the area getting your chocolate on. Cool little place!

This is definitely a high-scaled restaurant. Well, it is Hershey - that's pretty much a given. You basically have to make reservations because it gets ridiculously packed. The service was wonderful as soon as we walk in the door, they're extremely friendly people. All dressed up in their clothing. The atmosphere seems more laid-back then what a normal "high class" restaurant would seem. It has wooden finishes, country-like fixtures, it's just very different from what you would normally see around the area. Numerous floors, which they have elevators as well. And bars that you can eat, too. So we sit down, have a great waiter.. You receive bread as you wait for your meal. Um, best bread ever. I have no idea what it was, but it was just delicious. Better than Olive Garden bread, yes I said it. They give you a glass water container to sit on your table so you don't run out of water, which is nice. I ordered Pesto (which includes Pasta, Radiator (whatever that is), Shrimp, Tomato, Mushroom, with a lemon on the side). Oh, I have one word to describe my meal. DISGUSTING. I've never had a tasteless Pesto in my whole life. Normally I would have taken it back, but I was probably so hungry that night that I wasn't going to wait any longer for my food. Also, I ordered the deviled eggs, extremely good - without the "honey" sauce they have. Grilled Brussel Sprouts - I could have done without. And lastly, I added the mushrooms, too - Umm... no flavor? My date had the scallops which were AMAZING, and the clams as well. Geez, glad he picked the good food. They need to fix that nasty food on their menu. Give all my food a three thumbs down. For a nice restaurant as that, I'm surprised the prices weren't as ridiculous as I thought it would be. It's a little over normal pricing, which isn't bad. Like I said the service was good, and my bread. So - here's three stars. Would I go there again, ehhhhhh.... Can't tell.

Was expecting more. Great looking interior upon arrival. Dined with a group of colleagues and was well taken care of by our server. Draft selection was surprisingly average for the area but no one went thirsty. Appetizers were so-so...average calamari and such. Oysters were very hit or miss with a number of bad ones sent back. Have been hearing more of this in recent weeks. Filet was ordered medium-rare and arrived medium well. Our server had it quickly replaced. Not bad but nothing that would make me order it again. The entrees around our table ranged from the filet, NY strip, duck and the salmon so we got a pretty good look at their range. The mood around our table regarding them was pretty much "ehh...ok" but we agreed that we'll return to our usual places for our next scheduled dinner later this month. The owners/investors sunk a lot of money into this place. Looks great...but the proof is on your plate. I'd like to think they'll improve but with so many other good options in Hershey, this place may end up in the "once and done" category for a lot of people... especially those from the area that know what their options are.

We went this evening and did not have a good experience. We waited approximately 20 minutes for a drink, had to ask for a wine list and then almost got our drinks and appetizers at the same time. The appetizers were ok (soups) we then ordered our entree, crab cakes and seared scallops. Crab cakes were somewhat dry, did not care for the squash or kale. The seared scallops were good but not overly tasty. We also had to ask for bread and when it came it was dry. Two small pieces of bread and one roll for two people. Bill was $100 with gratuity. We will wait a while to return as they need a lot of work on service and also a better menu selection.

My husband, family, their friends and I went here the one night for dinner about two weeks ago. I was excited to try somewhere new. It was early in the evening and not very busy for a Sunday night. The first bad sign was when we arrived on time for our reservation. My parents had requested to be seated in the lower section. It took someone 10 minutes to figure out what was going on as they had to check to see if this was okay to be seated here. Again, no issues with making the reservation to begin with and seeing that it was not busy, it shouldn't have taken almost 10 minutes to be seated. We were finally seated and placed our orders. We got our drinks and appetizers. My caesar salad was pretty decent but I noticed the lack of croutons I had requested. It was still good though. It did seem to take awhile to get our main course. We also noticed that it took forever to get drink refills to the point where we had to actually track someone down to get them. Main courses arrived and I was slightly disappointed. I ordered the Mill Burger but had requested extra cheddar, cooked medium, no lettuce, tomato, pickle, bun, etc on the burger. I made it very clear that I wanted ONLY the meat and cheese and nothing else. I had just had dental surgery a few days prior and this was the easiest way for me to eat food as I needed to cut up my meal into small pieces. However, the burger came out with the oversized onion ring and bun. The cheese was sticking to the bun but it did not look like they had included the extra I wanted. I asked for more cheese and the waiter pointed out there was cheese on the burger. I made sure to mention that the cheese was already cooked into bun so there was no way of salvaging it since I had wanted extra initially. Instead of taking the plate back to redo the cheese, two cold slices of cheese were brought out on a separate plate. Because of it being Porter Cheddar, it was fairly crumbly and not easy to put back on a somewhat lukewarm burger. The burger was also fairly well done and not cooked 'medium' as requested. There was no juice or flavor to it. We needed another round of drinks halfway through our main course and that seemed impossible to obtain. I started drinking my husband's drink as mine had run out. After our main course was finished, the waiter asked if we wanted dessert or coffee. Several of us had ordered coffee and then he asked my father if we were ready for the check. Well, when the reservations were made, we had requested a birthday cake along with the meal as one of my parents' friends were celebrating their birthday. Again, everyone seemed confused but they finally brought the cake out 15 minutes later. The cake was made in house. Finally got our check, paid and left. The overall atmosphere of the restaurant was nice. However, the staff needs to work on a few things such as paying attention to the customer and their tables as well as organization. The food didn't measure up to the price you would pay. It was a Sunday night so you wouldn't get that Friday/Saturday crowd that restaurants have. Either they were short staffed or lacked the proper training. I did notice a bartender standing behind the bar counter playing on his cell phone while we were there. Overall the experience wasn't great as the others in our dinner party agreed on the service and quality of the meal. I give this review 2 stars because of everything that occurred on our first and most likely last visit. It's just not somewhere I would run back to any time soon.

Heard about this place, its history and the current owner, chef and investor status from a Hershey friend. I am "middle aged" (your mother's age) and have been all over the world most recently in Warsaw, still the Paris of Eastern Europe (with much delicious cuisine). I am a lifelong spoiled brat suburban girl, hard to impress, from Jersey, many years in PA, never have liked the "best" restaurants here that serve overpriced family style meat and potatoes portions and call it "upscale". Lived in Hershey for awhile, and still couldn't find a restaurant on which it was worth spending my money. I would rather cook for myself. Until now. My husband and I went tonight for our anniversary. Had reservations, and drove by at late lunch to check out the parking as we have walking issues. The pace was busy for lunch. Came back for our reservation for late dinner. 8:30 PM. Place was packed. Too early for our 8:30 reservation by 15 minutes. Drink at the bar. Beer on tap EXCELLENT selection for the hubby. My Stoli martini was perfect, even though the bartender told me he had any vodka I wanted, asked me for the name of my favorite and didn't have it. (I asked him for Luksusowa, he just laughed). My only only only only only complaint is that when the seating buzzer went off, I had to carry my Martini (you know how that goes!!) up 2 risers (1 flight) of stairs. In heels. With a crippled husband with a cane and a full draft beer in tow. I wore it. The server kids just don't know about how it used to be and that is an operations issue. Hopefully that will get better. Be aware of your surroundings! Have the cutomers' drinks carried up the steps. BASIC HOSTESS 101. I was hostess of the month a long, long time ago. A customer should never wear a drink. Duh. I ended up at my table with no cocktail napkin to put a martini glass that had been trekked up the stars in heels and sloshed all over on. It really was the biggest issue of the night. It's minor, but still. You want it perfect at one month opening, fix that problem. That is hostess inexperience and lack of verbal communication between bartender, hostess and receiving sever. At the very least, cocktail napkins should be on the table, so I can wipe my sticky hands on it if your service isn't perfect and the restaurant is packed. Meal: Prawns excellent, Viidailia onion soup excellent. Split bone rib eye out-fning outstanding. Duck breast good. Not quite as good as the Sinkhole in Palmyra, but really good. (Yes, unfortunately, a bowling alley duck breast was better than yours. Don't know why, it wasn't bad, the Sinkhole's was just better. I raise fowl myself, I know it is difficult. Source is all. Keep looking.....:)) The duck was cooked perfectly, medium rare, fat browned perfectly, but the breast was a little tough. I know how hard this is to do. Just a minor critique.) Desert was great -- the cheesecake was almost the flavor of my New Jersey childhood, the St. Germaine cocktail was excellent, and I don't ever have an after dinner drink for dessert. It was really good, major sugar high and all. Ambience was excellent even with the high, sound- reverberating ceilings. It had that industrial, loud warehouse space sound, but it was not not unbearable for a former musician with stage monitor hearing. Overall, pretty darn good. I gave it a five star, because it is definitely the best restaurant in a 25 mile radius. Probably the best restaurant to open in this area in the last 20 years. Hopefully, they can maintain....:)

If I could give 3 1/2 stars I would. Went here on a Friday night. Parking was awful, but I expected that. Made reservations so we didn't wait, which was great. We each ordered a drink. Not too terribly priced, could be slightly better. The bottom of the drink was so full of cinnamon we couldn't even finish it. We were also served an assortment of bread, which was great because I was starving. We ordered the crab cake entree and the halfa chicken entree. I was super excited by the presentation of the food. That's where it went downhill. The crabcakes had zero taste, none, zilch, nada. The half chicken wasn't cook through, in fact there were whole portions the at were still cold and raw. I was so upset I couldn't even grab the waitress to tell her. She finally checked on us when it was time for dessert. I just asked for the check and left with a bad taste in my mouth. I don't know if we'll go back or not. I really want to love this place, but this first experience isn't doing it for me. For the price you pay I expect my food to have flavor and be cooked thoroughly. If the waitress would have checked on us earlier I would have sent back my dish for sure. All but raw chicken is not good for anyone.

The food is good. The ambiance is great. The service is mediocre, at best. I wanted to really like this place, but the service really brought down the experience. I am hoping they iron it out as time goes by. On two occasions, our server took orders from 2 or 3 of us, left and then had to come back to take orders from the rest. This happened when ordering drinks and apps. There were only 5 of us. We were quite confused as to why he kept leaving before taking all of our orders. The server was unable to pronounce the wines that were available. At a place with these prices, I personally expect the server to have some basic training in the available wines (not only the names but also the characteristics). We had to ask another server for items at times, as ours was nowhere to be found several times. Our bills were split incorrectly, twice. I believe everyone in our party was satisfied with their food, so I am hopeful the service rises to meet the level of the food. I didn't count it against the rating score I gave them, as I had perused their menu ahead of time, but I would like to note for fellow vegetarians, that this place is very vegetarian unfriendly. They refused to make the tofu sandwich on their lunch menu during dinner service, so there are no available vegetarian entrees. I do respect a chef's right to decide to not make items on the lunch menu during dinner service, if it will mess up the flow of service. However, I just wanted to make other vegetarians aware. I ended up ordering two sides (mashed potatoes and Brussels sprouts), which they served to me in two separate small bowls, so it didn't feel very meal-like. Your other option is an appetizer salad, which is rather small and not nearly enough to make a meal, imho.

Finally, a restaurant in Hershey I am excited about. I have been waiting to review this place. I came in here during its soft opening. I love the ambiance of this establishment. It has a beautiful interior; rustic with a touch of industrial, it makes you feel welcomed. I love the open floor and bar areas on each floor. Our food was good, the ambiance was good, and the service was excellent. We had a good time exploring all of the floors. I am excited to see how this establishment progresses over time and look forward to coming back for food and drinks.

My hubby and I have been wanting to try The Mill, so we went for lunch. The interior is nicely designed and refurbished, but the decor is boring. There is not much to look at beyond the beams and brick ( no artwork, etc.) We sat downstairs in a booth. We went there during the week, so it was not too busy. I had The Mill burger and he had the 1/2 brisket sandwich with soup and fries. We both had water to drink and with our tip it was about $28. The food was very good and I could tell it was good quality for the price. I especially liked the onion ring served on top of the burger. The staff was oddly reserved and not overly friendly. I would be open to going back to The Mill, but it is on the pricey side. I think it would be a great place to go for a special occassion, but I would not be able to afford it on a regular basis. It was worth trying!

Making reservations online seems easy, but they have a very poor system. After making the reservation online, I followed up by phone. The restaurant confirmed the reservation twice. When we arrived, the booth we reserved was not available. This was suppose to be a special occasion for us. We also found the food very mediocre. I must say, the service was excellent!

This place gets five stars for ambience. From the exposed beams, hardwood floors throughout and the brick-work, right away you get a feeling that this place is like no other in the area. I especially love the three separate levels, each with their own bar. An added benefit is the loft off the third floor. Our party of four started off at the third floor bar. The bartender was extremely helpful as well as knowledgeable regarding wine selections. Next we moved to the second floor for our dinner. Our server was very nice and accommodating. My first critique was when our food was brought out. Our food was placed on a stand and then the person left. Our server then came out and noticed our food sitting on the stand and proceeded to serve us. She was not very happy that our food was left unattended and neither were we. Two people in our party ordered steaks. One was ordered medium rare and one was ordered medium. Both steaks came out rare, with the person ordering the medium steak having the rarest one. I ordered the Ahi Tuna bowl. Although the tuna was cooked properly, I found the food to be lacking in flavor without the presence of the chile vinaigrette. I feel the dish should be able to stand on its own without the sauce, the sauce should be an enhancement. Overall I really love this place. I will definitely come back here. I strongly believe these are just the growing pains of a brand-new restaurant. I would recommend this place to others.

Thanks for the reply Sabrina. The bigger opportunity is to create a pub menu. That is the most consistent feedback I hear about the Mill as a Hershey resident.

went for a special occasion. Will probably be a long time before we can afford to go back. BUT, food was delicious. Apps and dessert not worth the $$$ or calories... but the main dish's were all beautiful and amazing. :) We went around 6 on a saturday, and around 8 the noise level shot through the roof and they had a small band playing in the corner of the room. Now we know when to come and not. It was a more peaceful atmosphere pre-band.

It was my first time dining at the mill, and it was an all around great experience. The crab cakes were delicious and the atmosphere was perfect for date night. Let's not forget the wonderful service! Our server Alyssia was the best server we have ever had! She was attentive, and everything was all about us! She engaged rather than treating us like we were just another customer. She gave unbridled service and we couldn't be more happy with the experience she gave us. We will be back again and requesting her! We love the mill!

Obviously solid food, no arguing this, however, the price are just a little high for what you get. There are comparable restaurants in the area with similar quality and menus that you will get larger portions even for less than the mill charges. Im in no ways cheap, and Ill gladly pay for good food, and Ill even perhaps return to the Mill one day. But ultimately, I most likely will not. This place will do well Im sure with A++ food, a solid location, very cool ambiance, and affluent community and tourists galore, but locals beware.

Excellent new restaurant. Has a casual feel, but the food is upscale. Coming from NYC the pricing is familiar. Nice cocktail list and decent beer selection. I had the veal short ribs which were excellent and my wife had the ahi tuna which she really enjoyed. Overall I liked the vibe.

Four stars because they only offer a dinner menu without all of their very good sandwiches at dinner time. They should be open to every crowd considering they can seat 2,000 people in that place. Bar is good food is good try the chicken and waffles.

My son and dined here last evening. We had the calamari as an appetizer and it was the best either of us ever had. I had the scallops and Grits which were both done perfectly. The best grits that I have had north of the Mason Dixon line. My son had the chicken and waffles(which I thought was an odd choice for a upscale restaurant. ) He absolutely loved it! He could not stop eating it and declared it the best meal he ever ate. It is a beautiful restaurant with a great ambience. The service was also superb. We will definately be back again.

The evening started out very well but quickly fell away from staff. Somehow the chef came out and had time to talk with us but I didn't find experience genuine. In a nutshell the staff was halfhearted and the food was decent, they did over cook most of our fish meals.

Parking needs to be expanded as no spots available at 6 pm Great attentive service by a knowledgeable server The duck breast was good and the vegetables delicious and fresh My wife's chicken was tender and tasty Bread was a bit stale . Nice warm rolls would have been better. On tap IPA great with good selection though I wish they had Troegs on tap.

The is a charming, warm historical building with so much character! The food is unique American from one of the best chef's in town. The staff is professional and experienced from the waiters to the bartenders. There are three stories to this restaurant, all are beautiful. Live dinner music is common. The owners take pride as this is a family business and you may likely meet them during your visit!

I dined with a friend here on a Friday night to celebrate our birthdays. It was the first time both of us had been and we were not disappointed. We had reservations although still had to wait about 10-15 minutes for our table. The restaurant was bustling and full of life but not crazy loud. The service was wonderful and our drink and dinner orders were timely. We had the duck and the half chicken. I'm always concerned about chicken dishes b/c they are often over cooked. This however was incredibly juicy and seasoned just right. The duck was not greasy, which it often can be, was instead perfectly cooked and had just the right amount of seasoning. We had the vanilla bean creme brulee which was a bit heavier than I had expected but was still enjoyable. The serving size was bigger than expected and could easily be shared between two people. Overall our dining experience was fantastic. I will definitely be going back again and would highly recommend The Mill for a night out.

The skinny oysters on the 1/2 shell were cold, tasty and wonderful. The deviled eggs were done like no other and had great taste. The crab cake sandwich was ok, but the fries were perfectly done and tasted like board walk fries. I suspect they were blanched and then refried, but what do I know. I tasted Jo's Crème Brule and it was excellent. We were there for brunch on Sunday and I'm eagerly waiting to go back for dinner. A little noisy also.

Very nice looking place. I was with a big party. Service was good. The onion soup base was bland, despite stating Gruyere cheese it didn't pop with flavor either. But at least no ten inch long cheese pulls while eating. The chicken penne dish sauce is very good, but the dish had pulled chicken with dark meat that tasted like boiled chicken. Dish had raw sliced almonds on top, that should be prepared by pan frying. Replace the chicken with blacked chicken, more penne and less chicken too. Penne was over done. The cheese cake tastes like ricotta and shell was mushy. The salmon looked good, and probably a better choice. It had no complaints. And too something about the dense stale bread. I'm sure things will improve.

I have been to the Mill twice for a late lunch and would recommend going at that time. You can order off the lunch menu which still has entrees like crab cakes (which were awesome and gluten free) and steak or you can order a sandwich. We sat upstairs the second time we went which had more ambiance I think than the main floor.

I really love the atmosphere of this place and want it to be a top-notch restaurant in the Hershey area. The menu is great, but the quality is very inconsistent and poor at times. I ordered the fried calamari appetizer and it was extremely greasy, as if the oil in the fryer wasn't hot enough so everything was saturated. Then for the main course, the chicken and waffles were not done right at all. The breading on the chicken was so hard it fell off the chicken immediately. The chicken was bland and the waffle was dry. My girlfriend loved her shrimp salad, and was also happy with the prawn cocktail appetizer (excellent sauces). Fortunately, the server and management made an effort to make things right and get us back for another meal. And I will go back because if they can get things figured out in the kitchen, the Mill can thrive.

Never had a bad meal until I dined at The Mill. "Bartender" should go back to bartending school. How can you screw up a Bloody Mary? It was very salty, weak alcohol and tomato juice. Crab sandwich messy with frisee lettuce as a filler. Pumpkin mousse cake tasteless. Great ambiance and excellent server, Jared W., couldn't make up for this awful dining experience. Won't be back, and won't recommend this place.

Some good news and some bad news... The good news is the ambiance and the service. The bad news is that it is not terribly handicapped accessable and long flight of stairs to get in. Foodwise, my steak was very good as were the veggies. However, my wife's special pasta dish was a rich desert and not an entre. We were blind-sided. Very trendy, very noisy and some people like it. In the middle of nowhere and hard to get to at night on some pretty winding roads.

I'm giving the Mill 4 stars, even though I didn't enjoy my meal. Whatever you do, DO NOT order the vegan entree! I asked if they offered a vegetarian entree (since the menu didn't have one), and to my surprise, they did (it was vegan, so, close enough). I thought chefs were taught how to prepare tofu in culinary school, but apparently not...it was bad. Charred, bitter, flavorless, not good. It was served with quinoa and mushrooms which were very good. In hindsight, I wish I would have been 'one of those' people and just ordered sides as my meal. My dinner companion ordered steak and lobster risotto. I had a bite of the risotto, and it was amazing! (yes, I know lobster risotto is not vegetarian) Since I ate about 50 calories in my dinner, I thought dessert was warranted. The creme brulee was delicious. They served it with a cinnamon whipped cream, which complimented the dessert perfectly. I will be back to the Mill and go with my original plan. The atmosphere was lovely and a 2-man acoustical band came out and played a few songs, which was very nice too.

Been there twice, ehhhh. Great ambiance, nice bar, but the food is underwhelming and the price makes it worse. Brisket sandwich was fatty and greasy, fries were cold. Tuna entree was smallish and not overly flavorful. I hope they get it worked out because I would love to have this concept close to home.

Very inconsistent dinner. People who ordered bivalves liked their dishes. Those with salmon and crab cakes not so much. Service was ok but lacked direction. Overall, pricey without the food or service quality to justify it. And really $12 for a glass of dogfish ale?

This is the greatest secret in Hershey. It's off the beaten path and hard to find but don't give up. It's worth it. They turned an old mill into a restaurant. The atmosphere is excellent and the staff are very charming. I love the downstairs the best with the fireplace. The food is fresh and creative with presentation and flavoring. There is no bad dish here - it's all very yummy from the drinks to soups, salads, appetizers, veggie sides, entrees, and even deserts.

My parents, sister, husband, and I went to The Mill on a Saturday night to celebrate a few family birthdays. My dad had already been here for lunch, and had had a good experience. Our reservations were made a week ahead of time for 6:15 PM. At about 6:35, my mom went up to the hostess stand, where she had to wait for about 5 minutes to talk to someone. They told her they could add a chair to a table and seat us. They took our buzzer and we all approached the hostess stand, only to stand there for another several minutes, with no one even giving us a second glance. It took me going up again to ask when a table would be available for us to finally get seated. There was definitely a MAJOR lack of communication at the front of the house. The one woman, who MAY have been in charge there, told me that they were running about ten to fifteen minutes behind. We got seated around 6:50, which was over a HALF HOUR after our reservation time. Let's just say that this pregnant lady was NOT pleased. Once seated, our waitress approached fairly quickly to explain the history of the building and get out drink orders. She seemed to be pretty knowledgeable about the area and menu. My husband ordered the tuna bowl, my dad and sister the veal short rib, and my mom and I the scallops. My dad loved the flavors of his short rib (as did my sister), and my husband commented that the quality of the tuna was very good. It was seated nicely. My mom and I both loved the scallops. They were quality and seasoned well. The lemon grits that they sat on were also great, even though I have never liked grits. The pickled watermelon added a nice touch, and had a really interesting flavor. The chef is clearly talented. The bread was lacking, but maybe their focus is more on good entrees. There is definitely room for improvement in that area though. The atmosphere of The Mill is awesome. The rustic, yet modern look fits Hershey nicely. The food is great, but management needs work. The woman at the front desk wasn't rude, but she certainly wasn't nice either. It is obvious that they are overbooking, and while no new place wants to turn people away, if they really want to try the place, and can understand when a place is busy, they will come back. Unfortunately, when you leave a bad taste in people's mouths (in the form of poor management, not poor food), customers may not come back. Hershey is a small town, and word spreads quickly. This restaurant was at the top of our list for our annual father-daughter dinner, but my dad has vowed he will not return. I would be willing to give it a second shot, but they MUST improve the management beforehand.

While our New Years Eve cant be fixed from my review below, I do believe in follow-up and trying to help for the future. Within 24 hours of my review I had a call from The Mill (Candy) to discuss the problem. I really appreciated her honesty and quick response time. I wanted to add 2 stars to my first review because of this. And in all fairness, the first time we dined at The Mill is was 5 stars.

Heard about this place from a friend and decided to check it out. Went there on a Tuesday night at 745pm. Place was packed had to park on the street. Not much parking. Staff seated us within 10 mins which was fast. Very friendly. Place is beautiful on this inside. Rustic charm. Seated us on the main floor. I think the tables are too close together there. Only about a foot between tables. Not great for private conversation. Plus they have a tough time serving u because they are so close together. Food was great! Had the filet and my date had the tuna. She was very pleased as well. Took a long time to get our food. But the food was worth it. Bill for the 2 of us was $90 with gratuity. We did not order any alcoholic drinks so not sure on pricing for them.

Good food and a great atmosphere. My girlfriend and I both got steaks--she had the filet and I ordered the NY strip. I'm much more of a filet or rib eye fan, but the sides with the strip sounded amazing--and they were. Both steaks were cooked perfectly (medium-rare) and the drinks were very good. My only complaint is that the parking situation is pretty bad (although it was winter a handful of spot were taken up by snow).

Okay after reading many posts prior to eating here. I was pleasantly surprised. Waitress Maggie was the right balance of great customer service plus and good humor. Scallops with risotto was fantastic with perfectly cooked scallops! Hubby had filet with taters and kale and again all perfectly cooked. regarding prior posts about "stale bread", please note this is fresh house baked bread and it's peasant bread. So it has a hearty crust and soft, white interior. That's what real bread should taste like, not the fake "wonder bread" you may have been raised on, it was good. So out experience exceeded my expectations and we look forward to going again. Well done Mill!!

So Ive been to the Mill twice and had sub par experiences both times. The building is beautiful and its so nice to have something new in Hershey, but the food is way overpriced, and not nearly as good as other nearby fine dining. The first time I came here was opening week, and they ran out of the first 3 entrees I tried to order. When only $36 steaks were left on the menu, I wasn't interested, so I paid the babysitter $50, and didn't even get to eat an entree. In all fairness, this was opening week, and management was great and gave me a gift card for a free dinner on my next visit. My next visit was this past week. All food was in stock as far as I know, and they had expanded their menu a bit, which was good allowing more choices, and one dish at $20. Average entree here is around $26-$35. The apple salad tasted great and had a nice layout, however it was super small. Crab cakes tasted very good but were 90% filler. Im from Baltimore and know the difference in a good crab cake. Butternut squash puree and kale was excellent. Overall this restaurant is super modern and fun, but too overpriced for this kind of place. Hubby and I are in our mid to late 30's and would love to frequent a restaurant with this feel, but $26-$36 entrees, while sitting at hightop tables, next to the bar, doesn't match in our minds. They would do much better with slightly lower prices. For fine dining prices, we want a more luxurious romantic feel.

I dined here as one of a party of 8. Our reservation was for a Sunday night and it was pretty empty both downstairs in the bar area and upstairs. The third floor was closed but our server invited us to explore the space prior to our leaving. The restaurant space is well done. The temperature was very cold throughout- 2 women in our party seated in front of a window wore their winter coats through dinner. Drinks were fine. Our server was a delight and very attentive. Food received mixed reviews. Soups and salads were fine but nothing noteworthy. For the entrees 2 people ordered crab cakes, 2 had salmon, 2 had sea scallops, 1 had the duck and 1 had a bay scallop special. Those who had the crabcakes really enjoyed them. Those who had the salmon, bay scallops and salmon seemed satisfied but not blown away by their meals. I had the sea scallops which were perfectly cooked but the accompaniments were not. The grits were essentially inedible, lumpy and thick and the kale was tough and undercooked. These observations were echoed by the other diner who ordered the same dish. Also, some of the other diners had kale as a vegetable and agreed it was tough and hard to eat. A few people got desserts and enjoyed them. Coffee initially was lukewarm at best, however after informing our server, she promptly brought us fresh coffee that was hot and steaming. Only one of the other diners I ate with had eaten at the restaurant previously. She reported having a burger that was phenomenal. All in all the food was inconsistent. Our server did mention that neither the executive chef or sous chef were in the kitchen during our meal, so that may have contributed to the inconsistencies with the food. I'm not in a hurry to return, but if I do I may call ahead to make sure the head chefs will be in the kitchen while I dine.

I want to give it 5 stars but it just opened and has a TON of potential. I was so happy when I drove by the mill after returning to Hershey after the summer. Lets be honest. Hershey does not have the best restaurants as far as overall atmosphere and food go. (I have lived in Chicago my whole life. I am spoiled.) The Mill is very large but oh so cute. I love the wood beams, and the old barn feel. It had 3.5 floors. The .5 being a mezzanine that is a place without service you can grab a drink and head up there but no food allowed. It had a couple chairs. I'm sure it will grow with time. When we walked in they asked us which floor, all floors have the same food same drinks. We said seat us at your favorite. Floor 3. I think because they just opened they want everyone to explore and see everything. But I would really suggest on slow nights they keep on one floor and expand if they need to. It would make the ambiance so much better. Food! We ordered the deviled eggs, hand pulled mozzarella, bacon, mussels, apple pie and cheesecake. Mozzarella yummy, the heirloom tomatoes were fresh and full of different colors. Deviled eggs, ehhh.. I felt the white was very hard and rubbery and I didn't really care for the yolk mixture. BUT that may be because I liked very pickily and mustard-like deviled eggs. Both of which these were not. The pink egg white color was cool but being that it is farm to table I felt they should just stay white it is more fresh and organic looking. Bacon, its bacon of course its good, comes with Brussels dijonaise slaw. It is a small portion I think if there is more than two people order two. Mussels, delicious although a couple weren't opened. Apple pie- small but good. It is a take on an apple pie the cheese cake was way bigger also good. Service! We had Sam as our server and she was very nice and helpful. My wishes... Being it is a farm to table restaurant I would love to see more vegetables. I also think every restaurant needs at least one chocolate dessert. It is Hershey after all. I would also love to see them offer brunch! It would be the perfect spot and I feel like they could come up with some healthy tasty options. We will be back! I am excited to see this restaurant grow.

Holy Cow, fish, veal, duck etc. I want to like this restaurant so much but.... Who could enjoy a meal when the noise level is so bad that our party of three left with sore throats from yelling. I read the reviews and someone said "moderate"? No stink'in way. The food was very good...excellent. Service very good also. This is also a very $$$ place to eat. Hey, not one vegetarian entree? My husband said he saw a pasta dish and I even looked up the menu before writing this and didn't see the pasta. It's a good thing I'm a pescatarian (vegetarian that eats fish). I think this is a very egocentric eatery. The owner has a vision and damn they are going to keep that vison no matter what the customers want. Oh did I mention the train that passes so close to the building that you can feel it slightly but not really hear it. Why didn't you think of that on the inside.

I found the Mill to be a nice atmosphere but the AC was broken when we ate here. Takes away from the rating. I was sweating at the table. We ate on the second floor and had a great server. The calamari was a little on the chewy side. I had broiled crab cakes and they were really good. The asparagus was also tasty. I would recommend the mushrooms as a side. The mashed potatoes are worth a try too. My wife had the scallops and they were very good also. I would definitely come back. They had a band on Saturday night and they were enjoyable. A nice acoustic band so it wasn't disturbing while eating dinner. Give this place a try.

Four stars because they only offer a dinner menu without all of their very good sandwiches at dinner time. They should be open to every crowd considering they can seat 2,000 people in that place. Bar is good food is good try the chicken and waffles.

We eat here all the time and our experience has never been anything short of excellent. The food is absolutely amazing, always. Everything is so fresh and delicious! The ambiance and service is wonderful as well. The Mill is definitely a must when in Hershey!

Finally.

Crab cake sandwich was delicious. Bacon and crab cakes what could be better? The thick cut bacon and jalapeño corn bread was also very good. Chicken and waffles were huge. Would definitely recommend.

I'm a local, long true Hershey fan and was excited when they first opened up, but honestly this placed is over-hyped, the food is mediocre and over priced, but the drinks are good. The food is good, consistent, but there's nothing majority special about the menu. However the ambiance is very nice.

I am excited to see this restaurant grow.

went for a special occasion.

  • Barbara G.

Great location, parking is what it is, great food and staff. Really enjoyed the smoked tomatoes on the salad. Both meat dishes were perfectly done, my ribeye was excellent.

Took my wife here for her birthday, was an excellent choice. A great meal at an upscale restaurant for a good price! Perfect: Service, Food, Decor, Cleanliness. Five Stars!

Can't tell.

All but raw chicken is not good for anyone.

went for a special occasion.

I'm a local, long true Hershey fan and was excited when they first opened up, but honestly this placed is over-hyped, the food is mediocre and over priced, but the drinks are good. The food is good, consistent, but there's nothing majority special about the menu. However the ambiance is very nice.

Finally.

Crab cake sandwich was delicious. Bacon and crab cakes what could be better? The thick cut bacon and jalapeño corn bread was also very good. Chicken and waffles were huge. Would definitely recommend.

Can't tell.

Loved it. Food is great and the atmosphere is fantastic. We've been here 3 times.....worth the drive. Oh, try the waffle chicken sandwich, it's so yummy.

Also tried the crab cakes, the salmon and the smoked sausage entrees. All three entrees were great! Service was great too. We surely wud b back here every time we do visit hershey!!!

Great meal at The Mill for Easter. Food spectacular and service was exceptional too. We enjoyed the mimosas and Irish Coffee too!

Great location, parking is what it is, great food and staff. Really enjoyed the smoked tomatoes on the salad. Both meat dishes were perfectly done, my ribeye was excellent.

Third time at The Mill and it doesn't disappoint. The Maryland crab soup is just delicious. The service is friendly and the atmosphere a sophisticated charm!! Come in casual or dress you will feel at home. The best kept secret is the buzz
