Perfect place for lunch. The food was fresh and flavorful. Our dishes were light with an appropriate portion. Glad I found it. Regret not picking up a muffin for a treat later!

I was really thrilled to find this place. Nice staff, cool decor, and impressively expansive menu options. All the food was spectacular. I really thought this was a terrific spot. I had the nutella, peanut butter, and banana English muffin sandwich. 10/10! Coffee was also great.

Hands down, the BEST english muffin I have ever eaten. Ordered the bacon, egg, and cheese. Hubby ordered the brie, spinach, egg, and tomato. Both were absolutely delectable--very large and freshly baked. We also ordered the baked oatmeal and it was excellent--a sweet (but not too sweet) dish with fresh berries. Order yourself some coffee, too! We're coffee snobs, and we loved every last drop.

I really like Yellow Bird. However I have to downgrade my 5 stars to 4 stars, along with some constructive criticism - Improve your drink selection! Folks walk in and get the impression you will have awesome coffee house drinks...a nice chai or maybe a cool iced coffee to counter the sweltering conditions. You have neither, just straight up hot coffee. Food is on...keep it up! But drinks need some work.

I was visiting Harrisburg for the first time for a friend's weddings, and this cafe was listed the guide they provided to their guests as a "favorite". It's a cute and cozy place in an otherwise quiet and more run-down neighborhood (though, I only glimpsed a bit of the surroundings as I walked past). The atmosphere is warm with lots of natural light streaming in through the windows. I loved the bookshelf and homey feel. my portabella mushroom sandwich was delicious and warm, as was the broccoli cheddar soup which was surprisingly not heavy. My two companions enjoyed their sandwiches too, and I left with a chocolate croissant to take home on the road. Overall delicious and inviting! I wish I could spend more time here.

I recently attended a party near Lancaster, PA that was catered by Yellow Bird Cafe. The food. Was. AMAZING! The event was a 30th birthday party for about 30-40 people. We were served, buffet-style: an intriguing pizza covered with a ham-type of meat and some type of leafy green, with a sauce that was very sweet (okay, so I'm not so good with the food identification...). It was DELICIOUS. Next were little gyros, with small pita-like breads to fold, little strips of wonderful marinated steak, and a lazy susan full of hummus, fresh tomatoes, onions and cucumbers, with a cucumber sauce in the center. There were kebabs with feta, tomatoes and olives which were delectable (and I don't even like olives), as well as salsa in little individual serving cups (what a great idea!). There was italian bread and breadsticks, and I think more food, which i did not try (I was too full!). From what I understand, the business is a partnership, half of which makes all of the bread fresh daily (there was even plenty of unbaked dough left over)! Not only that, but they were calm, friendly, professional and cheerful during the entire boisterous party. They are hoping to open a restaurant in Harrisburg soon and I wish them the best of luck!! 10/28/12: The restaurant is planning to open in January 2013!! facebook.com/yellowbirdc…

I'm go to yellow bird pretty much every weekend. Here's a few of my favorites: *ham, egg, and cheese breakfast sandwich *brown butter rice crispy treat (SO good) *buffalo chicken sandwich *dark hot chocolate *coffee The atmosphere is also great. The staff is super friendly and nice, and there's is always great upbeat music playing. It can get crowded on Saturdays and Sundays, but overall I've never had to wait too long for anything I've ordered there.

Delicious food, fresh made English muffins, and friendly service with a smile! This was the perfect stop for breakfast on our exhausting road trip. Cozy seating and local art really set the atmosphere, too =)

I've always heard about this cafe but after going to midtown scholar for years and eating at millworks weekly, and going to the market, and eating at The Garden several times, I somehow never saw this place. Well, I finally deliberately went for a brunch. Their menu is on a chalkboard wall. I had some international guests with me and they enjoyed the bright and sunny atmosphere. It's small but not stuffy. I was happy to be there. Their cold brew iced coffee was actually pretty good--you could drink it without sugar and cream, and I don't trust cold brews in central PA because I'm pretty sure everyone uses concentrate. The breakfast sandwiches are huge and very filling. We also had a tasty strawberry, spinach, chicken salad with a homemade dressing. I think the portion sizes are totally fine and prices are fair. Their iced tea is good, too. I'll definitely be back to this happy little cafe.

Have been really excited to check this place out, but might not be back even though it's a 2 minute walk from my house. They only have drip coffee, so okay, it's a cafe...it'll probably be good if it's their only coffee beverage. No. Terrible coffee. They had 2 brews and I dumped both out in the bathroom sink. It tasted like an ashtray. Like leftover coffee. It was so bad. I'm assuming their bread is all homemade. That was the saving grace. Ordered a breakfast sandwich on an English muffin. 10/10 for the muffin. The sandwich itself lacked flavor and character. The place was fairly busy (Thursday morning before 11AM) with what seemed like regulars. They were all drinking their coffee happily and were treated nicely by the employees. A+ for atmosphere though. They also had a good-looking pastry case but it was too early in the morning for sweets for me.

Adorable cafe! Very cute and welcoming atmosphere. Came with my buddy to check out the capital and after driving from Minneapolis, decided we deserved a little meal. Dropped by Yellow Bird Cafe and it was great. I ordered the Brie, egg, spinach, and tomato breakfast sandwich and it came on a fluffy warm home baked biscuit. No complaints. Even yummy fresh brewed tea! You can bring children because there's a chalkboard for them to use and a selection of books for adults to read if u just want to relax with some coffee and read.

I went to this place with my family while we were visiting the Harrisburg area. It was a very small place, with few seating options. You go up to the counter to order your food, but do not even get your drinks when you order. The overall ambiance is a bit hipster, which I am not particularly a fan of. We all ordered sandwiches, which is mainly what they have. While the food was actually pretty good, they were tiny portions for the price. Some of sandwiches were mainly bread, with not much of the actual meat, or other filling. My boyfriend actually had to get food afterward, because it was not filling.

Wow! Incredible breakfast sandwiches. They are using top quality ingredients and making lots of stuff from scratch in house. I had a pepper jack , bacon, egg and roasted red pepper sand which. The English muffin seemed to be some type of beer bread.

Came here on a Sunday morning for a change of study location. Small space, but it's cozy and bright. This place is more of a chatting with friends/hang out with family type cafe than a study cafe (limited outlets), but it had the right amount of ambient noise for me to get some work done regardless. (At least until the end when a family with a few small kids who were excited about the chalkboard in the back came in. Can't blame their enthusiasm though!) The food and drinks are reasonably priced and satisfying. May or may not come back here to work, but definitely would come back if I just wanted to hang out

Who could not love this place??! One of my favorite foods is a breakfast sandwich, and these guys perfected it. I come here several times a week for it--no lie. Their lunch menu is phenomenal as well. I'm addicted

I always get half of the strawberry spinach salad and half three cheese panini. Both are absolutely fantastic! Some comments mention the portions are too small but as long as you're not looking to be stuffed after then the food is perfect for lunch! I also reccomend the Nutella pop-tart when they have it!

I've eaten at Yellow Bird a few times, mostly just breakfast (their homemade Nutella pop tarts are AMAZING). Today I went in and got lunch, a half salad and half sandwich combo for only $7, which is a pretty good deal! I had the Strawberry Spinach Salad with Poppyseed Dressing and it was really fresh and delicious. I also had half of a Turkey and Arugula Sandwich and that was also very good (though my favorite is still the Smoked Turkey and Guacamole). I also got an iced coffee, which was ok, but not strong enough for my taste. I would definitely recommend this place for breakfast or lunch and I'm already planning to go back next week!

I ate the most delicious breakfast sandwich here. Unfortunately, the coffee was not good. Nothing compares to Little Amps!

We hit this place for breakfast at least once a week. It's easy to get stuff to go, or to snag a table and eat. During the week, it's always easy to get a spot. It's a casual, relaxed space - good to hang out and talk. Also if it's not busy, there's room to park a stroller, and my kid likes looking around here. I like the roasted red pepper and egg sandwich. If I'm feeling decadent, my favorite is the homemade nutella poptart. So good! I'm not a coffee drinker, so I do wish there was a bit more of a drink selection. I'm usually stuck with Minute Maid juice...I'd prefer something a bit more interesting.

2 words: Artichoke panini. Everything is great and the staff are always friendly and helpful. I love this place and eat here regularly. Sometimes it's hard to get a table.

Delicious, fresh food in a delightful, friendly atmosphere. The portions are perfect. The Yellow Bird Cafe, near Broad Street Market, is a wonderful addition to Midtown Harrisburg.

Driving thru, first time in Harrisburg/Yellow Bird Got the half sand/half salad combo with a white bbq chicken sandwich and pear/bleu cheese/arugula salad. Sandwich was tasty, little kick, with great bread and tender white meat chicken. Salad was also tasty, great vinaigrette dressing with fresh pear. Cheaper than Panera but tastier and local, maybe slightly smaller portions. Also got coffee, which I can't recommend, especially since they state a 1 refill limit, but it wasn't bad. Atmosphere is charming and home-y, can seat about 18. The counter service was very friendly and offered suggestions. Overall, very nice place that I'd consider getting lunch at if I ever was in Harrisburg again! (Kind of wish I tried their breakfast offerings, they sounded/looked great! Next time...)

Love this place! Been here too many times to count. It's the perfect place in Midtown for breakfast and lunch. Try the breakfast sandwich on an English muffin as big as your head. Their cookies and croissants are excellent (sweet muffins leave a little to be desired). Panini also stellar. Can't go wrong with a stop here.

My favorite place to eat in Harrisburg. Come here for lunch at least 2 times a week. Very cool ambiance and friendly staff. They make great Soup. This review is for vegetarian food.My favorite is vegetable Garden Soup :) Love the Spinanch Artichoke Panini sandwich with Pita Chips + Hummus on the side is great.

Best breakfast sandwiches in Harrisburg. My girlfriend thinks they have the best iced coffee anywhere in the country. Their English muffins are homemade and to die for.

I'm so happy to have this in Midtown. What a fantastic little place. We first tried Yellow Bird for Sunday brunch, which offers only a small portion of the standard menu, but there were still plenty of appetizing options. I had the egg and pepperjack sandwich on a homemade English muffin, and it was most likely the best breakfast sandwich I've ever had. I'm not a fan of croissants, but my boyfriend had one with ham and cheese and my friend one with chocolate, and they were huge and looked perfectly buttery and flaky. They also serve Little Amps coffee--another plus. The space is warm and inviting, but it is small and we weren't sure we would be able to get a seat as there was a consistent crowd. But because the cafe draws a friendly crowd, we were able to rearrange some tables to make it work. Yellow Bird Cafe will definitely be one of my regular spots. Love it!

  • Erin B.

The food is excellent and in a home-made style. The only drawback is if you are eating there, they are a bit stingy about the coffee. Only one refill per person. I probably wouldn't take more than a second cup, and I don't know if they had problems with folks just hanging out and drinking coffee all day or what, but I don't really like to be told how much coffee I'm allowed to drink especially when coffee is usually not that expensive to brew. Unless they're using coffee beans that were hand-picked by blind nuns in France only during a full moon on the third Sunday of the month or something like that. Then by all means, limit the coffee refills.

Harrisburg's best breakfast sandwich and very good coffee. We've eaten there a few times and on Saturday road trips we stop here first to get sandwiches and coffees to go. Fantastic! Staff is super nice. For our road trips we call ahead. They know us now cuz we order the BLT with peanut butter. - sandwiches are huge and top quality. So grateful Harrisburg has this place!

Awesome little local joint. You MUST have a breakfast sandwich with the homemade English muffin. Rotating variety of coffees. Watch the hours, as they usually close by 3pm.

Love the atmosphere. Nice little cafe. I found the food okay. I had a good sandwich with ham, brie and apple, but not great. It needed something but could not put my finger on it.. The soup was a curried cauliflower. I could not really taste the vegetable. The curry overpowered everything. I will go back again as the prices were decent, but the food needs to be amped up.

Stopped by this morning and had a wonderful breakfast. The English muffins that the breakfast sandwiches come on are homemade and delicious! My little one enjoyed her yogurt parfait and I couldn't pass up two cookies for the road. Will definitely come again!

One of my favorite places in Midtown. The most amazing fresh baked bread I've ever had in a restaurant. I've only been here for breakfast, and my favorite is the spinach-tomato-brie sandwich. Plus homemade huge english muffin of course. The coffee is good, not great, but the atmosphere is really nice. I love it!

We don't spend all that much time in the Harrisburg area - we come up for meetings about once a month - but were excited to see Yellow Bird Cafe open up and a new place to meet clients and talk shop. The space is lovely. Warm, and the service is friendly. That is where I give the two stars - but (and I really dont like giving these kind of reviews) but the food was terrible. We ordered the roasted red pepper panini and roasted red pepper soup to start off with. The panini was just a block of cheese, with a few red peppers and the bread was bland - all thrown in a panini maker. There was no spice, no taste and was totally bland. The soup was overloaded with parmesan cheese (really, its all you could see and taste in the soup). We then decided to add a veggie wrap - since we wanted to try to add some veggies to our meal and that was pretty plain and they didnt add half the veggies they listed on the menu. One of the people we were meeting ordered coffee and said it was terrible. Again, the space is lovely and the service was nice and friendly, but the food is beyond mediocre. If they can step it up a couple notches, this will definitely be an amazing space all around.

I've been here about four times with family and all have been good experiences with both breakfast and lunch time items. The service is cheerful but space is very limited and sometimes it seemed to take a while for the food to get out of the kitchen. I would like to see a little more selection for the coffee but the sandwiches, soups and other breakfast items have all been spot on. This is very much an urban setting so if you are thinking of just driving up to run in you may find parking a challenge, but if you are in Harrisburg and want a nice place to grab a morning or afternoon bite you can't go wrong here.

I really wanted to give this place more stars. It's in a nice location (across from the Broad Street Market, not too far from downtown Harrisburg), cute decor (if a bit small), and the menu options sounded really neat. And even though it was super busy when I was there for lunch on a Friday, the chick behind the counter was really nice. But, really, I'm sorry to say, the food fell short. There were a lot of yummy sounding menu options on the chalkboard, even though some of those options, the counter lady told us, were sold out. I ordered a cup of the Acorn Squash and Apple Soup with half a Three Cheese Sandwich (gluten free). My friend got the Grilled Cheese with Apple sandwich and chips. We both got iced tea. Let me say, the fact that they offer gluten free options is fantastic. Thank you, Yellow Bird Cafe! But, I had to ask if the soup was gluten free. Please don't make me ask, especially if you have other gluten free options specified on the menu. The Acorn Squash and Apple Soup was really good (and I'm not an acorn squash fan)--but it was only in a small cup. My half sandwich? Tiny. Itty-bitty. As in four normal bites and it was gone. Plus, even though it was grilled, the cheese wasn't melted. And it was bland, as in, "These are three different types of cheese? REALLY?" Even my friend commented that her sandwich was bland. And for what we paid for our meals, the serving sizes were very disappointing. (But, philosophically, would we have wanted greater quality of bland food? Perhaps not. However, more reasonable prices would have been nice.) Oh, and the two pickle slices! How could I forget the TWO PICKLE SLICES??? Not like a strip of a dill spear, but two slices of pickle like you'd fish out of the bottom of the pickle jar and eat while you're waiting for your sandwich. The iced tea was horrible. Very horrible. Very bitter and even with the addition of sugar, it was bitterly gag-afiable. Don't order the iced-tea unless you're used to drinking swamp water. Even though our sandwiches were disappointing and the iced tea caused me to have nightmares, the soup was good enough that I'll give this place another shot. Next time I'll order a salad (and if I'm lucky, they'll have another yummy soup for me to try). I just hope they don't use iceberg lettuce in their salads...

Yellow Bird Cafe catered my 50th birthday party. They created a perfect evening for us-- even being the ones to suggest the theme for the party and the menu. Every detail was tended to. Delicious, fresh flavors coupled with an incredible presentation created a Mexican fiesta every guest raved about. And I mean raved-- spontaneous applause for them even broke out part way through the evening. The staff kept a low profile but interacted with guests warmly and professionally as opportunities came up. I can't recommend them highly enough. First rate all around!

First of all, I REALLY want this place to do well and stick around for awhile, because we need a great little cafe like this in midtown. That being said, they have a few kinks to work out if that is going to happen. I have been here twice and both times, the service has been very friendly but also very clueless. There have been 2 separate young ladies working the register that have no idea about the menu, what is available that day or really even how to work the POS system. Also, the food has been pretty mediocre. Had the decent turkey and arugula sandwich, which was pretty tasty but my friend's order was hopelessly lost and we ended up being finished with our food far before he even was acknowledged about his missing order. We have also had a few of the panini which were nothing special, and the veggie wrap which was just a bunch of sandwich toppings like banana peppers, sweet peppers and pickles with some brown guacamole in a tortilla. I expect this type of veggie sandwich from a pizza place, but not from a cute little cafe that is charging nearly 7 bucks for it. The ambiance is great, very cheery and fun. The baked goods, cookies and breads look amazing and I look forward to trying them. I hope the issues get worked out but in the meantime, I will remember to only grab lunch here when I have an hour to spend on a sandwich! Best of luck to you Yellow Bird!!

Enjoyed lunch here this afternoon. The restaurant is in a nice location with plenty of free parking near the Broad Street Market and a few doors from the Midtown Scholar bookstore. The staff was great and food was fresh and delicious. I had a brie and tomato panini and a black bean, corn and cilantro salad. During the lunch rush, timing was everything. This is an intimate setting with five or six dining tables available (and some comfy lounge chairs)--so, though we had no problem, we saw a couple come in, look at the line and go right back out the door. Of course, the small crowd speaks to the quality of the experience. We'll definitely be back!

Went with a group for lunch. Great menu with really fresh items. The sandwiches are made with homemade bread and there's a side of these awesome sliced dill pickles with each sammie. I had the half soup / half sandwich which at $6.50 is a great deal. The soup was Roasted Red Pepper - and you can tell they made it all from scratch. It's a bright little spot in Harrisburg. I can't wait to go back and try something else from their great menu!

we've been here a few times and every time are treated like garbage. the staff are warm & friendly with anyone else, but when it's our turn to order they are rude, short and generally impolite. if you have tattoos, wear black, or generally don't look like you belong in a church group, i recommend avoiding this place until it closes.
