So, I took a break from Yelping for a little while. Reviews for my Windowsphone Lumia 1020 are like the old school IOS and Android versions. IOW, not postable. The main difference is left to right functionality, which I love. Plus, some rules changed at work which is where I occasionally would post reviews. Some of my best work happened there. So now back to the old days with the desktop at home. So with that out of the way, here is how these string of reviews came about. It was my birthday, today. For about a week, I planned on taking a day off and doing a me day. The kids have been particularly bad on their dad, lately, and other life circumstances have been trying, to say the least. So, I needed a day out for me. A little planning and I decided to make a day in Harrisburg. Part one of happy birthday to me was breakfast at the CP Diner. I have a work friend that recommended this place for their home fries and price. You know me. I am all about the cheap. So, sounds perfect to me. I have passed this place many times over the years. I always thought it looked smallish. yet, it was typically busy and easy to get to. Upon entering the Diner, I was impressed. It was pretty spacious. Almost like Doctor Who's Tardis. Much bigger on the inside. A little geek humor, there. hehehehe..... uh.. well.. yeah. Anyway, it was also clean while looking like the typical greasy spoon. There was a bar, as per expected. I was hoping not to be seated there. I prefer booth seating at places like this. That is exactly what I got without even asking. It was comfy, too. The waitress was quick with everything and to the point. Not much small talk, here. But that is ok. I wasn't there to flirt with the waitress. I just wanted some coffee and breakfast. That is what I got. I ordered the CP special which consisted of two pancakes, two eggs, and two slices of bacon. I ordered a side of home fries and a black coffee. The coffee got there quick and was really good. I am not sure what they used. But I could tell it was some sort of mild breakfast blend. It had that nice, pleasant taste to it. My breakfast came super fast. This was good. I was afraid I would be up against it for stop number two, on my adventure. But this place flies with the food. I made a mistake not asking for toast yet ordering over easy eggs. Nothing to dip. I didn't ask for any, either, as I was looking to eat and get out. As fast as the whole experience was, though, I should have asked. Instead, I used my home fries for the yolk. Maybe sounds gross but it wasn't. It was good. The pancakes had this really smooth, light taste to them. I love that in pancakes. The eggs were done to perfection. The bacon was a little odd in taste. I can't put my finger on what it was. But they had a strange flavor. Not unpleasant, at all. Just, different. The home fries were pretty good. Not the best I have had. But not bad. So, to sum it all up, it was ok. Not great. Not bad. But, it was breakfast. What can I say? Honestly, it doesn't take a Michelin chef to make a decent breakfast. This place gets it done. The service was adequate. The prices were really good. I got out of there for under $10. There really isn't anything I can think of that made the food and service memorable but I wouldn't hesitate to go back if nothing else but the price. The only negative was that the bathrooms were really small and not exactly immaculate, unlike the rest of the diner. But I can overlook that and give the CP Diner 3 stars. I will add this. Some of the lunch and dinner menu items make me want to come back for those meals, eventually. So, I may just do that. If you want a decent and quick early morning stop, this place is a good option right off the highway. So, try it out. Maybe I will try the french toast in the future.

It's been years and years since I've eaten here... until my sister-in-law and I found ourselves wanting to grab a bite to eat after a school meeting. That was back in April. I got the pea soup (so yummy) and the meatloaf. (Also yummy). Our next visit was mother's day evening. Again got the meatloaf and my son got a hamburger. The chocolate suicide cake is truly to die for! I got key lime pie. Not my favorite but more palatable than other pieces I had in the recent past. Earlier this month we went again to celebrate my birthday. Got the meat loaf again (you can imagine i like their meatloaf) and my oldest son got a Caesar wrap, youngest with chicken fingers and fries. We also got the disco fries (french fries, gravy and cheese) and dessert. This time we shared a piece of chocolate suicide cake. This past week my parents came in for a visit and took my son out for a bite to eat. They were so impressed with the size and price of their kids menu. I've never had bad service. One side of cole slaw for my son was rancid, but it was returned and replaced with fresh immediately. We look forward to our next meal! (I think I'll try something new like the open face meatloaf meal! Haha!)

I am not usually critical of restaurants because often I am pleasantly surprised by places I am hesitant about. I don't like making a scene, and I think that often negative reviews are just exaggerations. Not this place, and you can't make this stuff up. It's my third day visiting Harrisburg on vacation. Every place my family and I have stopped to eat at has been amazing. This morning, we were driving around looking for a diner to eat breakfast at, and came across the Colonial Park Diner. It looked packed, which we took as a good sign. We were poorly mistaken. The host was unenthusiastic about his job. The booth we sat at was below a dripping air conditioner vent, and no one who worked there was nearly as concerned as we were about it. It was dripping on us and onto the table, which I'm sure is a health violation, but when we complained no one cared. The waitress knocked over my mother-in-law's cranberry juice all over her and didn't offer her a new one nor did the waitress took the one she knocked over off the bill. She didn't take any responsibility for turning my mother-in-law's white pants pink and ruining her purse. The food was mediocre, at best, and the waitstaff spent their shift sitting in a corner of the bar, talking with each other, on the phone, and eating. It took us twenty minutes to get one glass of apple juice. And when we left, they were laughing at us, like we were a circus freak show. Of all the great places we've eaten at here in Pennsylvania, this has been the worst. We left sticky, wet, embarrassed and frustrated. One star because because there's no option for negative stars

We were on the way home and decided to stop in for something to eat. I was expecting to see the 'after the club closed' people in there. There a single person making noise or acting silly. Everyone was calm, cool, and enjoying their food. My waitress, Courtney, was very patient and helpful. I had the Super Colonial Park Special. My order arrived much faster than I expected. The food was hot and very tasty. The amount of food was much more than I could think of finishing, so I'll be having the rest of this breakfast for lunch today. I will be dining here again!

Friendly staff and fairly clean for a diner. I had a bacon and cheese omlet with homefries, rye toast, and coffee. The omlet was mediocre. It was overcooked and a little dry. The homefries, which I ordered "crunchy" and with onions, were pretty good; crunchy on the outside and soft (mashed) on the inside. The rye toast was not good, as it was not at all toasted and the selection of jellies leaves much to be desired. The total for this meal was $10.46, which seems on the high side for this meal. This was my first and last time visiting this diner.

The breakfast at Colonial Park Diner is really good. My husband and I get the Country Fries (a combination of scrambled eggs, peppers and potato slices) with a side of the sausage gravy (which is totally an artery clogger, but sooo good). Staff is very friendly and attentive. They also offer delivery (when they have a driver working), which is definitely a plus!

I was in the area and wanted a quick breakfast and didn't want to drive far. I had been there many years ago and didn't love it but it wasn't horrible. First, the place has a shabby, dirty vibe that makes you not want to touch anything. They're always busy, so they must do okay, but it doesn't appear they invest much money or time in upkeep or cleaning. I had a western omelet and it was decent. The home fries were so undercooked that they were pure white with only 2 or 3 crispy slices on top. My companion got the stuffed french toast. It was stuffed with some goo that may have been cream chese ish, and drowning in strawberry sauce. She said the toast itself tasted like chipped beef. I thought she was kidding, but I tasted it and it did indeed taste like chipped beef. The server was efficient and pleasant, but we waited a really long time for the food. I personally won't go back, but if you're in the area and want breakfast and don't care about ambience or cleanliness, you can probably get an okay basic breakfast. Avoid the French Toast!

The place was in good shape. It looks like they've made an effort to clean up the interior compared to previous reviews; it was serviceable and no complaints there. Service was fine; they were actually understaffed that morning and one poor woman was running the whole dining room when I arrived, but the kitchen got my meal out fast. I'd go back again.

I was really anticipating eating here and excited when a coworker and I stopped there for lunch. Our server was excellent but the diner just didn't seem that clean to me. I love breakfast for lunch so I got the eggs benedict which were adequate. The hollandaise lacked a little zing and the eggs were a little runny. The hash browns came out to my specifications and were fine. My companion got the split pea soup which came out on the cold side and was not that good, according to him. He got fries and some sort of egg or chicken salad on a croissant. The presentation was not appealing to me. But to be completely fair, I grew up in NJ which has an abundance of amazing diners. NYC diners have always paled in comparison. I was going to give Colonial Diner a solid 3 stars until I got something from the dessert showcase to go. I kick myself for not remembering Shana's review because I honestly think that the baked goods reside in this showcase until they die. I got a Greek pastry and was getting ready to eat it for dinner dessert and was completely disgusted. I could smell the staleness as soon as I opened the container lid. But I had spent $4 on it so I gave it a bite .... BIG MISTAKE. It tasted nauseating and as one with a cast iron stomach, I couldn't even take a bite without fighting the urge to throw up. There must have been something else in the refrigerated showcase that cast a bad taste into my item. Into the garbage it went. Hence the 2 stars. I think from the reviews and my experience, breakfast might be Colonial Diner's strong point. But please never ever ever order from the dessert display!

When I was younger I used to go to the diner all the time, I thought it was so cool for some reason. They were the first place to give you free refills on your coffee & soda if you bought it. it cost like 1.90 though. The only food I remember liking was the a) cheese and gravy fries and b) southwest omlet. i also had lox & bagel, two lobster tails and all kinds of other breakfast items. the food was alright, it used to be pretty cheap but it semed like they raised the price on everything like .25 cents for a while, every 6 months the prices would go up. sometimes though, yeah its is a little under cooked. parking sometimes is a bit annoying. and once my car hit the guide rail in the alley behind there. slight damage but it ruined my night. now i only go there if i have to work the night shift and am totally bored.

From my experiences here, I'm surprised that it has a lower overall rating than the Capitol diner. Capitol has a better ambiance, but for a diner, what do you expect?. When I've ordered traditional diner food here (breakfast at odd hours, open-faced sandwiches, etc.) it's been great. The quality of the service really seems to depend on what waitress you get. Sometimes it's so-so, sometimes it's great. I know people who have ordered the larger more elaborate entrees and some of the desserts and not been thrilled but eh, whatever. We still keep coming back for more. P.S. - I love the candied yams on Sundays with the orange flavor and the massive quantity of cloves.

The hubby and I pretty much decided to permanently cross this place of our list of places to eat. The food used be good here, but the last few times we went it was consistently bad. It was bad for diner food! And the service was not the best either. It is like the employees kept disappearing. We were excited to have a diner so close to us, but then it just turned out to just be a crappy place!

Ugh, I don't know what was worse, The salad with Brown leaves and the huge piece of heart, The extremely long delay between finishing the salad and getting the main dish. The Chicken Cordon Bleu which tasted like it came from a box in Costco and had 2 pounds of cheese sauce dumped on top. Maybe it was the TBone steak that my dining companion sawed through, Maybe it was the lack of decor and visible nail holes in the walls, with dirty pendant lights. Maybe it was the waiter who said " Look at that " when he was shown the brown heart of lettuce. Toss up on if this was the worst diner meal I've ever had in PA or if that dubious honor goes to Riverside Diner, Oh but Riverside closed so Colonial Park Diner, you're number One! Won't be returning.

**For good quality food, ambiance, and atmosphere, this is not the place to go** However, I don't know who on earth is dumb enough to look for an elegant or quality dining experience here. It is a 24 hour diner and everyone knows that means its for random breakfast and stopping in the middle of the night. 24 hour diners are a favorite among teens and young adolescents for being open at 3am and serving breakfast and milkshakes. This place is conveniently located, nice enough for a diner, and has good chocolate lava cake, milkshakes, and breakfast - making it a good place for a late night stop to hang out with friends and chill out.

I'll give this diner average at best. I have eaten here a couple of times, and the food was kind of, meh. Not overly warm, not overly tasty, and the staff is sub-par. I'm a huge fan of diners, and breakfast around the clock in general, but this one is lacking.

Rating is for breakfast since that's usually when I find myself here. Food is good, affordable and comes out quick. I've always found the service here to be good, average on their worst day. Extra star for the personal carafe of coffee at breakfast - much better than hoping a waitress doesn't forget about you while sitting with an empty cup

The best thing about this place is the ambiance. Second best are the memories, and maybe fourth or fifth is the food. But you don't go for the food anyway, EXCEPT the Chocolate Lava Cake, warmed up with a scoop of vanilla ice cream on the side. Don't eat the Chocolate Frog; the same ones having been sitting there, staring balefully up at the ceiling, since you were born. To eat the Chocolate Frog is to diminish the mystique of the Colonial Park Diner, and the mystique is the third best thing about it.

Ah the diner. Home of post-debauchery yummy things. I'm sorry. Yummy tings! In all fairness, I have eaten at the diner many times while sober and the food maintains almost all of the quality it has while drunk. Not many diner/burger joint type places can boast the same. In the case of excessive libation consumption, the food is actually BETTER sober. Check out the crab cake sandwich (with chips for like 5 bucks), the Spanish omelet, and their new mini-Pizzas. Now I'm not sure I'd advocate the pizza if I ate it sober, but it was definitely better than standing in line for a slice downtown.

We stopped here while driving. The food was diner quality good and our waitress was attentive and friendly. We didn't spend a fortune and were back on the road in no time.

Always enjoyed myself here. Food is above average, and service always seems to be quick. Always seems like a great place to go late at night to just grab a quick bite to eat and hang out with friends.
