    Hidden gem! Loved the sushi, very tasty and fresh. It's BYOB, the staff was friendly and personable. Would recommend and will certainly be back.

    Great sushi and great staff!! We were very skeptical because it was empty, but we had nothing to worry about. We even ended up getting more then sushi. I recommended the beef udon noodles! So good!! Also, the wine and spirits is walking distance from restaurant. Perfect BYOB.

    After having horrible experiences in the past from various locations, I had finally given up on sushi and even fish in general. Finally I gave into to my boyfriend's nagging and tried out Yokohama. I loved the restaurant itself, it was cozy, but not stuffy, friendly but not overbearing. They had tons of choices and after letting them know of my bad past experiences, they were nice enough to give me a sampling of a bit of everything to give my palette a tasting of everything. Let me tell you, I am hooked! My bf had to take a picture of me to prove to everyone that I was actually eating sushi again! There were people of all ages there, from small kids to older adults. Everyone had their favorites on the menu, and all were greeted like they were part of the family. Try it, you will not be disappointed!

    This is one of my favorite Japanese restaurants. The food is delicious (some if the best soup I have ever tasted) and the staff is friendly. I have not been to Yokohama in a long time, and I think I will have to fix that. I highly recommend this restaurant.

    I come here often. It is always easy to get a seat and the food is wonderful. The cost is very good. Get to know the owners and you become one of the family.

    Sushi is a staple for me - like meat and potatoes are for some. I can't go more than a couple of weeks without a fix. Luckily I travel alot, and more often than not i get my fix on expense account. I've been to my share of places, including some that are simply phenomenal. Two things drive a good sushi place - fresh ingredients and a talented chef. I've been going to Yokohama for darn near 20 years. For a long time it was the only place in the area. More recently, it's seen a large number of competitors pop up. I've been to all of them. But we still keep going back to Yokohama. Why is that? It's not the most awesome place i've ever been too. It's far from the worst. I think in this case its a combination of close, friendly, good, and consistent. On a friday night we may see one or more of the other regular's that frequent it. Sam, now the owner only recently retired from behind the counter and now occasionally jumps in as Hibachi chef - which Btw is very good and not given to the silly antics that i've experienced in a lot of them. Just solid food well done. But on to the sushi. Sam hired a new sushi chef, Seiji who i've put to the omakase ( google.com/url?q=http://… ) test. They don't always carry the breadth of ingredients i'd like to see, but what they do is always fresh. Seiji made the grade, putting together a nice omakase selection that satisfied. I've done it 3 times since, and he's getting better each time. I also like that he remembers what my wife likes and doesn't. And Sam's daughter, now the maitre de is always friendly. I get a kick out of a asian-american that says "how yall doing?" It about as fair as expecting that a italian american would say "chow" rather than "later", but its because its a restaurant i guess. This is a friendly, comfortable and enjoyable spot that doesn't break the bank and offers solid and enjoyable sushi. If you're there on a friday night, you just might run into me. I'll be the one drinking the draft sake (BYOB).

    This place is tucked away in a shopper center strip mall behind the highway so unless you know about it, you'd probably wouldn't stop here. The service was pretty good and the teriyaki beef is actually not too bad. The sushi on the other hand is really funky stuff. They must put in too much vinegar into the sushi rice or something, because something about the sushi rolls just didn't work for me. Entrees okay--sushi no way

    We took our family here for what we hoped would be a delicious dinner and hibachi "show". They have been open for years(thought that was a good sign), and I haven't eaten there in probably 15, but we wanted to give it a shot. I had called Aoki over on Main Street too, but they closed down their hibachi tables a month ago. I was a little nervous when we walked in and there were very few people dining. In retrospect we should have re-grouped and left. The hostess/server didn't even come to our table until we closed our menus. She was almost friendly. She grabbed our wine bottle and opened it(at least we didn't have to ask). Then the food began to arrive. The miso soup wasn't really soup...more a bowl of watered down chicken broth with 2 super-thin mushroom slices and some chopped lettuce(?!) The best part of our meal was the salad, their dressing was delish - my 8yo daughter actually wanted ANOTHER, and she kept trying to sneak bites of mine. We waited a while for the chef to begin to cook our meal. The kids kept themselves busy with an iPod and chopsticks-turned-drumsticks. Our server finally brought out sticky rice in bowls, rather than cook fried rice with the meal(disappointing). I had noticed the chef didn't really interact with the folks at the other table, so I was friendly when he came over. I asked if he could do the onion volcano for us, and he said he wasn't allowed and the sprinklers would go off. He laughed and said "I probably disappoint kids all the time". Right, and adults. Almost everything was overcooked - the veggies, shrimp, lobster(by far) and filet. The chicken wasn't bad and the one dipping sauce had a nice spicy kick to it, so we did have a few good things to eat. Just to continue our punishment we ordered fried ice cream and a vanilla ice cream($2.50) for dessert. I watched our server scoop Turkey Hill vanilla into a sundae dish for my son over by the kitchen. The fried ice cream came out so fast it seemed frozen(tasted kinda old/frozen?) and maybe they had microwaved it. My daughter loved it, but for $4 it was a huge disappointment for me. We spent $100 with tip for a family of 4, and we won't go back.

    The Marchwood shopping center may look a little shady, but definitely take the detour! Yokohama is solidly the second best place for sushi in the area, but with the absolute best prices. Doesn't hurt that it's a BYOB, too.

    I was introduced to this restaurant about two years ago when my fiance took me there. I loved it. Even though through those two years I've been to many other japanese restaurants, I can still say that Yokohama is my favorite. The staff is friendly and the atmosphere is great for anything from just you and your S.O. to a group of friends. Quiet and laid back. It's BYOB so you can bring your favorite wine or sake along (coincidentally, there's a wine and spirits store right across from the restaurant). There are two sides, a normal sit down side and a hibachi side (which I admit I've never been on but I've had their teriyaki beef and it is delicious) as well as a sushi bar. I've never gotten something from Yokohama that I don't love. From sushi to bentos to udon, miso, teriyaki and tempura, it's all good and most importantly reasonably priced. I haven't found ANY japanese restaurant that offers the quality of food that Yokohama does for the prices. Please take the time to check out this local restaurant and support it!

    I've tried this place every year or so to see if it gets any better. I'm only a sushi eater so I have not tried the hibachi side. I'm amazed at the good reviews it gets. They cannot turn over the fish fast enough in this restaurant so most of it is frozen between use so the fish is then not at it's best texture and flavor to eat raw. My last visit had my sushi rolls falling part with hard rice and half frozen pieces of yellowtail. I want to like this place because it is in a convenient location. You want a sushi place that is busy - Yokohama lacks volume. I am of Japanese nationality so I really want people to enjoy the best of sushi cuisine. It's expensive no matter where you go so try another place - you will be surprised at the differences.

    This is some of the best sushi around for the price. The staff is fun and personable, too! Ask Sam to make you anything you want and it will be fantastic! I have been going here for at least 10 years and have NEVER been disappointed. BYOB and have some fun! No dancing at the Hibachi table which is a good thing. They don't smother your 30.00 filet mignon with sauces and press the life out of if for entertainment. Good food, good people, and a good time.

    Driving around for ideas for lunch, I decided to stop for sushi. I don't live in this area, so I was unfamiliar with how this place rated. Overall, not bad (for the price). I ordered take-out and it took approximately 15 minutes to prepare (I didn't think it was too long) and I was given a nice cup of jasmine tea while I was waiting. It was lunch, and not a soul in the restaurant, so I was skeptical, but everything I got was pretty good and fresh.

    We had dinner tonight at this restaurant with a group of 20. The service was great, very helpful and polite amidst a large and (I'll say it) demanding group. The food was delicious. This is a family restaurant run by a wonderful family. We have been patrons of this restaurant for years and for all the Japanese restaurant options in the area this is where we continue to return for two simple reasons: 1. The family that owns this restaurant cares about their customers and 2. the food has never failed to meet our expectations. The food is fresh and delivered in a timely manner. The ginger dressing on the house salad is a can't-miss (you can purchase by the pint)! Sushi is fresh and made to order. If you're with a large group make reservations in advance to be sure you are seated together. Otherwise, there is nothing about this place that we've ever been disappointed with, and it's family oriented so bring your kids! The atmosphere is comfortable and casual, so if you're looking for something a bit more urban-chic maybe not the place for you. But an all-around fulfilling experience if you like good food and great service. We'll definitely come back!
