My all time favorite place to have Indian food. When I used to live in West Chester, I would come here almost every week! Whenever I'm in the area, I always make a point to stop by. When I go for lunch, they usually did buffet style. They also gave a large crepe to go with your buffet. The crepe was crispy and light on the outside. Towards the center, the inside was filled with veggies and potatoes (aka yummy goodness)!! They're food is spicy to perfection. This place is vegetarian so don't expect to see any meat! Still definitely worth coming and trying out some authentic Indian food. (I felt it was authentic because whenever I was there, I was surrounded by Indian families that had their parents and children dining). I am never disappointed when I come here. The people are friendly too! The decor is nothing special but the food is superb! **Disclaimer- the last time I ate here was ~6mo ago so not sure if everything still holds true, fyi**

One of the best Indian buffets. Great service. All vegetarian, great selection of appetizers, entrees, desserts, and even masala tea (first time ever I had seen that item on a buffet).

So delicious! Keeps me coming back again and again for the delicious lunch buffet, rasam, dosa and more! Absolute must try. So much better than anything else the Exton area has to offer.

This is one of my favorite restaurants since I moved here to Philadelphia... Vegetarian food with tons of options. Authentic south Indian food! Only issue is that there are only 2 sweet options.. Icecream is default... But I only come here for the rasam and dosas!! Keep up the good work!

Best Vegetarian restaurant in the area.Friendly and warm staff.Only down side is its always busy and need to wait for a long time to get in over the weekend. Can't help it as there are probably a lot of people who love it :) Like their facebook page for amazing pictures to make you want to visit this place more often.

It's too average food and heavily priced. Most of the dishes were just average and some were poor. No dish can called wow. 15$+ tax for buffet is not worth it.

If u wish to taste South Indian foods around the city then Devi would be the best fit.. You will be delighted if u r vegetarian.. Good service and standards r maintained throughout the buffet.. :) it's worth for money.. Weekdays it's $11 for buffet and on weekends it's $15.. A good place to dine with friends and family..:)

I was a little confused when I entered this place that was packed on the weekend because the decorum was more suited for a retirement home in Florida than anything ethnic. This was my first time experiencing a fully vegetarian buffet of any kind, and the initial spoon full from my plate was nothing short of divine, packed with flavor and the chicken substitute was light and savory. However, that's where my experience climaxed and went subsequently downhill. Typically the quality of the food is my only concern, and I am willing to ignore service and atmosphere for quality food that enriches the palate, however the primary server and the people working there not only brought the experience back down to earth but the whole thing made me feel a bit of a tummy ache when all was said and done. The primary server, and any of the other people I saw working there seemed very abrasive, condescending and down right rude .. which eventually got to me. Besides that the only other things that ruined it for me was that the orange juice dispenser only had these tiny paper pill cups next to it and that the guy came around asking what sort of dosas we wanted after I was already done my second plate at the buffet. I wasn't able to change my dosa request because he had already sent it through to the kitchen on his ipad .. and it actually seemed soggy and unappetizing when I got it and was ready to leave. After some finagling they gave use some tin foil so we were able to take them home with us. In retrospect my stomach would probably felt better if I cooled it off with some ice cream or cool desert, and wasn't so ready to get out of there. I may go back again if it's not crowded. And I kinda felt bad about saying this is a 3-star place but then I went to a vegetarian Indian in Edison, NJ that puts this one to shame and makes it easier to put this experience behind me after finally being able to vent.

The food is delicious!--But I will warn you that it is an All-Vegetarian Buffet and there are no menus. It's also $20/person. So pretty pricy for a buffet. Not the greatest place but it is a great option for Indian in the area, and it's very close to Main Street Shops and the Exton Mall.

I have a serious love affair with beef, and I'm not a huge fan of Indian restaurants so you can imagine my surprise that I loved my meal at Devi. My mysore masala dosa wasn't just comically large, it was awesomely tasty. Not every dish was comically large, but they were all tasty, well-prepared and incredibly satisfying. I've never said this about non-homemade Indian food before, but I can't wait to eat more! Yum yum nom nom nom.

I'm not a huge fan of Indian cuisine, but this is one of the only all veggie places out here in the burbs. I like to go here if my vegetarian friends are in town and looking for good food. Their dosas are the big draw. I'd never had one before I went here but it turned out to be a really great treat. The other sauces and chutneys that they served were all very very good.

Devi is a great spot if you already enjoy Indian food and you're ready take your appreciation of Indian cuisine to the next level. We were first taken by Indian friends who explained they the style of food served here is from southern India. The food is all vegetarian, and many of the most well known Indian dishes are not on the buffet. The food is really easy to like, though. Everything I tried was great. My wife forced me to try one thing that I shied away from; it was a dessert that looked like sauteed onions, which turned out to be a delicious treat made with rice noodles. Both times we've been there, the clientele has been about two-thirds Indian, which is probably an indication that Devi is getting it right.

The drive from Philadelphia to Exton took 30 minutes (traffic was great) but it was 100% worth every single minute on the road. I'll start by saying that I have never been a fan of (most) Indian food primarily because north Indian is the most common around. I always found north Indian foot pretty flat and monotone in taste. South Indian however is amazing and every bite is a treat! On to the review! We went on a Saturday (yesterday) and found out that we could not order off the menu and only the buffet was available. Since all four of us dining are vegan, we were a bit worried about ghee in the buffet dishes and limited options. We asked the waiter (owner?) which of the buffet dishes had ghee and he asked us right off the bat if we were vegan. He then told us that he would bring the chef out to tell us which dishes were vegan and to our delight, all of them but four dishes were vegan. Forgot to ask about the naan but we decided to stay away from that since most naan contains yoghurt. The buffet had an excellent variety of deep fried goodies and curries -- all of which were extremely fresh and absolutely delicious. The rasam was comforting, the sambar delicious and the various chutneys perfectly spiced and fresh tasting. As we were eating we were also asked if we wanted dosas to which we all replied with an enthusiastic yes! The dosas were extremely light, perfectly cooked and filled with a yummy spiced potato filling. My only regret is that I filled up on some of the deep fried dough things (sorry I can't remember what they are called, they were delicious though) and wasn't able to try everything. The staff were all extremely nice, helpful and attentive. Also, as were were paying to leave, I also noticed that they sell dosa batter to take home as well as desserts. I didn't buy any this time but I definitely will next time. We are definitely going back to Devi both for the buffet on the weekends as well as ordering off the menu during the week. I have a feeling we'll be hitting Devi up every couple of weeks. I can't wait!

I'm somewhat of an Indian food novice, and I really enjoyed Devi's lunch buffet. I was happy to see an Indian buffet that wasn't just Tikka Masala and Vindaloo. The famous dosas were included in the buffet, which was a nice suprise. Everything from the buffet was great- each dish had that subtle, complex and nuanced taste that I can't seem to pull off when I cook Indian food. I'm very lucky this place is down the road from my job! (Also, they are BYOB. Might have to come back fod dinner sometime with a great beer)

A clean, neat Indian vegetarian Buffett. I am not a vegetarian but have eaten here a few times and love it. I almost do not miss meat when there are so many nice vegetarian dishes available. Overall, there are about 10 dishes, a salad bar and a desert bar. The place is packed with Indians, and to me that is a hint that the place is authentic. The reason for three stars: First, there is a poor selection of "won't set your mouth on fire" foods. At least 80 percent of food is so spicy that I had to chug water after each bite, and I am no wuss when it comes to spicy food. I have a friend who cannot tolerate overly spicy food and I cannot bring her over here to eat. Second, and the reason we stopped eating here altogether, is they charge toddlers for food. We brought a kid under two who sat in a high chair (a rule of thumb for most buffets is not to charge for toddlers who need a high chair). He had a couple bites if bread, rice and ice cream. Most of the food was too spicy for him. They charged full price nonetheless. I thought it was extremely unfair and stopped going there. The third reason is the price maybe too steep for a vegetarian Buffett. The price is $15 per person, and for that you can get Snow White crabs and lots of other protein at a Chinese Buffett in Downingtown nearby. I would have expected to see $10, maybe $12. But the place is usually packed, so the price is clearly worth it for most people. Overall not a bad place, I would check it out once just to see what you think.

This is the only 5 star Yelp restaurant I've ever given in the Philly region. And also the best South Indian I've ever had. Highly suggested to anyone looking to experience real homemade Indian vegetarian. Thank you, I'll be back when in town!

This restaurant is one of the best restaurant in Philly area. You might not find food very spicy but it tastes good. This restaurant is a must try if you like South Indian food and don't mind just okay ambiance. After many visits I have to come to the conclusion that food at Dev's is good during lunch but for some reason its dinner is not as good as you would expect . One more reason for me to like this place is because it is South Indian and all vegetarian . On top of all that I love the fact that they offer buffet.

Devi is a nice south Indian restaurant in Malvern area. We have visited several times and had idli vada sambar, masala dosa, combo platter, uttapam etc. Food is good, lots of chutneys, mango lassi is awesome, ambience is OK, staff is friendly, but nothing extra ordinary. Lost 1 star bcz Samosa was not tasty, sambar was not hot and once medu vada was raw/uncooked.. Often waiter messed up our order, so make sure to repeat the order again.

The food is always great and its never crowded. Even though I am a total moron when it comes to indian food, I never cease to embarrass myself asking the waiter what a certain dish is, and pronouncing it all wrong. They are always very friendly to explain what is what and I must say its really tasty. I like some spice and they certainly know how to flavor something well, without just tasting "hot". I have never been there for the lunch buffet but I hear its outstanding.

I had been to Devi on numerous occasions this the best south Indian restaurant in Philly. What you can expect here is an amazing food with superb sambar. Please forget about ambiance and service. Ultimately taste and quality of food maters and if you are the one who care about these then Devi the place to enjoy good food. I have been to buffet on many occasions best are idily, wada, meedu wada, dosa, masala dosa, chutneys, and pongal. Never disappointed with buffet, its simply superb. Consistency is the key in Indian restaurants doing well and this is an restaurant stands out among all others. They have been excellent in being so consistent in maintaining the taste, flavors, quality with great food. I guarantee you that you will be satisfied with your food here and get your moneys worth! Owners are Tamil and mostly Telugu speaking. We have placed large party orders from them on many occasions and let me be honest here Devi will give you the best deal for party order of more than 30 people. They provide you with sealed Hot Case for all the food items which is easy to carry and eat hot food at home. "Devi the best Veggi resturant you would love to eat hot dosa with spicy chutney"

Devi's quality has gone down tremendously over the years. I just ate there couple of minutes ago and I am officially not going back to the place. They have so much different foods that quality and taste is completely butchered. The servers are friendly but it's just a waste of money. Instead of having authentic South Indian desserts now they had something called Avocado Choco Mousse. Ughhhh grosss!!!!!!! Also the main Subji are unfortunately punjabi instead of South Indian. All in all not a good way to spend $14 for buffet.

Devi is one of those few Indian restaurants that serves amazing food in a very typically south Indian ambiance and by very friendly staff. In most Indian restaurants, there is a shortfall of at least one of these three aspects. I was at the dinner buffet yesterday and one thing I realized was that their food does not contain baking soda that most restaurants add to the items on buffet to help fill your stomach faster. Most of the items in the line up tasted just like what I ate growing up in South India. Be it the kala channa (black garbanzo) curry, the pongal, the bitter gourd pakoda, vathal (fryums), the dosas and the chutneys or the ambrosia (curd rice), they were all extremely delicious and worth the buck. However, the sambar seemed to lack dimension in terms of taste. It was quite bland and fell short of the punch. Also the north indian dishes namely naan, panneer tikka masala and the veg biriyani (that was high on ghee which suppressed the rest of the flavors) weren't the best I have eaten in the area so far. I didn't get the idea behind fusing rasmalai with chocolate syrup either. The gulan jamun on the other hand made up for it. Overall, if you're craving good, authentic *south* Indian food and/or looking to have a great time with friends in the area, this is the place to be! 4.5 out of 5 because of the price.

To be completely honest, I am not a fan of south indian food, but for adventurous foodies and my mom, who loves south indian food, it really doesn't get any better than this. We have had family come all the way from New York to taste their food. Since I don't like south indian food, my go to dish at this place is gobi Manchurian and they make it really well. The spices are bit on the high side but the server always cautions me and i still end up getting it :). It comes with rice and a papad and for the non-south indian eaters, its is really tasty. For my mother she always gets the masala dosa or rava masala both of which are spiced potatoes and onions along with a dosa which I really don't know how to describe in english and in my mother's opinion is the best dosa she has eaten since India. Generally there is quite a bit of rush there so the service can be a bit spotty but again if you ever catch a server's eye, he will immediate be ready to help out.

I have only ever been here for their buffet. And having spent three months in Chennai it is exactly what I remember it to be. Very often when I go abroad I cannot experience the same flavors once I return. Going to Devi reminds me of eating with my hands surrounded by amazing, wonderful children. Everyone there is very polite and eager to explain things if you are a newcomer to a new cuisine. If you order the buffet someone will come by and offer you a dosa. I always ask for mine spicy. It is all very delicious and the food is fantastic.

Here is the problem with Devi. This place just will not please everyone. I totally understand that there are some people out there who enjoy a place like this. Vegetarians will enjoy it. People who like South Indian cuisine better than North Indian cuisine will enjoy it. I am neither. However I do occasionally enjoy a good vegetarian or even vegan meal. You see, about 5 years ago my wife brought me here before we were married. I was still a novice at this cuisine. I knew I liked Indian food but that was it. The spice of the food here damn near killed me. I learned I just did not like South Indian cuisine. But since then I've become much smarter in the cuisine. I know what to expect now. I found myself wanting to give Devi another shot. I decided to hit them for lunch today. I was good with a couple of dishes. The mushroom muttar was a creamy dish that was closer to North Indian style. I was happy to get dosa (and even happier they offered me a medium spice option). And the desserts were tasty if not too plentiful (one halwa type dish and ice cream... I've seen better selection). But maybe it is me. I learned that no matter what, I just don't like idli. I just don't like sambar. And I just don't like vadas. Maybe these just aren't the best versions of those dishes. I couldn't tell you. I won't tell you not to go there. It might be your cup of tea. However my personal experience here was 2 stars. "Meh, I've had better" sums up my experience perfectly. With Jas Himalayan right nearby, I really have no reason to come here. But if it floats your boat, go for it.

An Indian vegetarian restaurant in the suburbs of PA that's knowledgable about what's vegan and willing to accommodate me? Awesome!! India is about the most vegetarian friendly country you can find, but veganism goes over most of their heads. Curd, paneer, ghee are hiding everywhere, and if you ask about it again after you get your meal, often they'll say, "Just a little bit!" It can get exhausting, but at least veal isn't a byproduct of dairy in India, so I learned to take some things in stride. But I was always comfortable eating South Indian food while over there. Masala dosas, idlis, sambar, uttapam, and coconut chutney were always safe bets, so I was super excited to find an all vegetarian South Indian buffet out around where I live!! There would definitely be food for me to feast. The place is small, in a shopping center, but very clean and well lit. Our host said he'd bring us our masala dosas and we were free to start at the buffet. When I asked about the vegan options, he took me over to the food and pointed out everything that was dairy free. Oh, that's another bonus of vegetarian Indian food - no hidden eggs anywhere! So you just gotta suss out the dairy. There weren't a ton of options, certainly less than I'd hoped. Most of the breads were fair game (he brought me naan without any butter, very sweet), the sambar was good to go, but out of the 4 main dishes, only fried gobi was okay. It turned out just fine as I had plenty to eat with the dosa, and I really enjoyed my meal. The gobi was quite a treat! I won't try to compare it to what you can get at Sagar Ratna in Delhi, but it scratched an itch, and any restaurant in the 'burbs that I don't leave hungry is pretty awesome in my book.

South Indian food in Exton? - we had heard good things about Devi and longing for the vibrant dishes of that complex cuisine, gave the restaurant a try on our way back from a farm visit. Unfortunately, only the buffet dinner could be ordered, not a welcome restriction given our memories of countless mediocre Indian buffets. As feared, the eating experience at Devi joined that inglorious list. The good: the soups (due to the fact that they can withstand long hours of waiting around) and the mint and tamarind sauces. None of the other dishes rose above mediocre, with the cardboard nan below that gauge. The worst were the desserts: a pallid pudding that would have brought complaints in a middle-school cafeteria, a slowly melting block of bland vanille ice cream, and, slightly better than the other two choices, pieces of coconut barfi. Diners can also request dosas cooked to order - they were fine. It might be that the best success strategy for Indian restaurants is to serve up lots of mass-produced dishes that hungry diners can shovel on plates to their heart's content. For that type of eating, West Philly's university city places will do, no need to travel to Chester county.

This was wonderful! Dinner buffet had a good variety of dishes, tons of pickles & chutney, and several desserts as well. Sambar and mushroom curry were delightfully spicy. Loved that the waiter gave us a pitcher of water instead of making me beg for relief each time I foolishly ate a chile straight. The meal came with a fresh-made dosa too (choose the spicy one if you can handle it; don't forget the coconut chutney). Only drawback was the naan which was clearly store bought.. But everything else was fantastic and I will definitely come back.

Being a vegetarian I was excited to fine a veg only restaurant. That is where my excitement ended. The buffet lunch selection wad limited to only six dishes. All the curries were okay but the vegetables were frozen and cooked to absolute mush. The rice and naan set out too long and turned bad. The price is too high for the selection and quality. The dining room was clean.

When out in the boonies to go visit Longwood Gardens, my parents decided they wanted to have dosa. Best place to find south indian food = NOT the boonies. So of course, I was super skeptical when we got here. However, it was surprisingly good. SO weird. We had buffet when we got here, and the offerings were pretty good. They were a good spread of south indian options available - including things that are not definitely usually available at south Indian restaurants. However, being southie myself, I am able to discern GOOD south indian from great. This was good - NOT great. The food was a little too salty at times, and at other times, too oily. Yet other options were good, and all in all, REALLY inconsistent. My mom cooks better. Moral of the story: Have my mom make you food in her kitchen. However, if you aren't near her house, go to Devi. It isn't so terrible.

Southern Indian food is healthier and lighter than Northern, less cheese and cream, so I am told. Go to North Jersey to find a ton of such restaurants, but Exton is very lucky to have Devi for vegetarian Indian food. We went for the buffet and tried to order dosas before we really knew how to order them; stuffed is the way to go! Ask for advice. As others have stated, you have to force the staff to tell you which items are vegan (to avoid ghee and yogurt). I wish they would have this labeled so I would not have to bother anyone. Vegans flock here, and it must be asked all the time of them. I'd love to see them turn the lights down and add more color and decor to the strip mall space. It is nice to BYOB. I thought I would be crazier about Devi than I was, but I would give it a few more tries.

My family and I love Devi! we go there often for the buffet. My boys are both vegetarians and I prefer vegetarian Indian food. They always have a nice variety of food, and opportunity to try different things, and their dosas are very good. The staff are welcoming, and the service is friendly and very efficient. We also order take out at times, and while it usually takes a little longer then they say it will, it is worth the wait, it is not already prepared, it is fresh and delicious. they will also adjust the spice amounts for those in our family that do not tolerate very spicy as well. I recommend it at any time!! I also love the sambar soup and will sometimes go in and just order that to take for lunch.

I was happy to hear a south Indian restaurant around here. So I was excited to go here. But to be frank, the food was not up to the mark. I love spicy food. But spicing up every single food was a big let down. The taste factor was a big issue to me. And yeah it was under staffed too. So be prepared for them, if you plan to visit here.

Love it :) And yeah hubby swears by their 'Rasam' helps with getting over hangover :D.. this is also one of the reasons we head for saturday buffet at Devi after a crazy friday :)

One thing I really like about Indian food is the abundance and variety of vegetarian dishes. Don't get me wrong, I am a serious carnivore, but I could eat at Devi for a while without missing meat! I can't comment on the buffet cause we ordered off the menu, but the dishes we samples were created with finesse and were delicious. I love the pakoras! They were delicate piles if shredded veggies barely battered together to form fritters. Crispy, light, and not at all greasy! I also like this place be because they feature many southern Indian dishes including a large variety of my favorite, dosas. Large, paper thin, completely crispy rice flour cakes with a texture somewhere between a pancake and a pitzelle. They are often filled with seasoned potatoes or onions and are served with an array of chutneys and condiments. Yum! I had a very nice Chana masala, a spicy chick pea curry. Steve had vegetable Korma. Both were nicely balanced. You could taste many individual elements in harmony. My only negative is the bread. Maybe because they feature excellent dosas, but we ordered naan and it was bad. It appeared to come from a package. It was tough and had none of the unique character of fresh baked Indian puff breads. Boo! That being said, I would order from the menu again. I would go back just for the dosas! Good place in Exton.

I visited Norristown in the month of august and I had been here for lunch buffet on a Sunday afternoon. The décor is simple and staff is friendly. It is one of the best vegetarian restaurants in the suburbs of PA. All the dishes are fresh and tasty and among the buffet I liked the Pongal. I would surely suggest everyone to try buffet in Devi.

Best vegetarian restro as far as Indian cuisine is concerned. Buffet is really worth its price Yes, their dosa takes reasonably more time than expected. 2nd favorite after Bawarchi ! Why 2nd? Well I am a non vegetarian ! Got to know that they even have onsite catering meaning they would come to your place and cook hot dosas even at outdoors!

It is the only S. Indian restaurant in the area. When I go there, I am usually one of the few gringos in the place. I LOVE the cuisine of the entire subcontinent, but I must admit I am addicted to dosas. I guess that is better than being addicted to oil. (Come to think of it, I am addicted to mustard oil). They will bring you as many dosas as you like, but with the rest of the buffet beckoning, I usually only have one, since they are so huge. I make crepes and tortillas, but I have never tried to make one of those thin dosa. (I did see a couple vids on u-tube, though). If you've never experienced S. Indian cuisine, or if you are a vegetarian, you will love the place. The staff is quite helpful, too.

Wow, you Yelpers have let me down. My wife and I were excited to give Devi a try based on the many positive reviews. However it was so bad from start to finish that we found ourselves wondering if we were in the right restaurant. We arrived at 5:30 on a Sunday which according to their website is when they open for dinner. Wrong... they open at 6:00. Okay, no big deal. Devi is in a shopping center and conveniently there's a sports bar next door. So we watched the end of a Phillies game, drank a beer (Flower Power, mmmm) and waited until 6:00. Then the fun started. There are several pictures of the restaurant interior on their website ( deviveg.com ) and it looks to be polished and upscale. Wrong again! The pictures are of a different restaurant because the actual interior is a generic brightly lit, dropped ceiling, zero decor box that could have easily been the waiting room of a dentist. The music was tastefully playing from a giant boom box that was resting on a couple of chairs against a wall. Okay, a little disappointed but it's all about the food, right? I had checked out the menu on the website and was ready to order. My wife and I eat a mostly vegan diet especially avoiding dairy so we were encouraged by the many vegan options on the menu. Except that we were informed by our server that there was no menu. There was only a buffet. Okay, it's going downhill but let's see what they have. We walk over to the buffet where there are three stations: a cold food salad bar-esque cart with some cut up carrots, iceberg lettuce, tomatoes, a tray of diced apples, pears and pineapple and some different chutneys, a dessert station with some ice cream and two other choices and lastly a hot station with rice and six or seven offerings named but with no description. Oh, and two unlabeled soups with unknown ingredients. We love Indian food but are by no means experts and so we were curious which dishes had dairy in them. I get the attention of a server and ask. He tells me he'll get someone and disappears never to return. Fortunately, a customer in line is familiar with the dishes and points out the only two dairy free choices. So we put some rice on our plates and try each, one okra based and one lentil based. Each was edible but bland and the lentils were rather chalky. What did we drink you ask? When I read in some of the reviews that it was BYOB I didn't realize that if I wanted anything other than water I needed to bring it. The only liquid available was a pitcher of tap water they left on the table for us. Oh, and as we were finishing, two dosas appeared on our table that were evidently part of the meal. Again unknown ingredients although it was definitely potato based. That was it. Bad decor, bad service, no menu, marginal food and nothing other than water to drink. I couldn't even bring myself to leave a tip and that hasn't happened in a long time. All the server did was get us a pitcher of tap water. The home page of Devi's website says: "Better food. Better service. Better ambience. This is the Devi Restaurant's mantra'" How about instead: "Bland Buffet food. No Service. No Ambience."

All-vegetarian South Indian cuisine with a focus on a wide variety of superior Dosas. They have a lunch buffet that is very good, includes at least 7 entrees, 2 soups, desserts, salads, chutneys, breads, etc. "Super Buffet" is also available on weekend evenings. Not as spicy as many Indian places in the area but very tasty and to judge by the clientle it is authentic. Our only complaint is that the bread is infrequently refilled when they are busy - and who wants a great Indian meal without bread?? We're in visiting family and staying in Exton. We ate the lunch buffet here two days in a row. Try the dosas with extra (mysore) spice if you like hot. The sambar is the best I've had and I've eaten at Indian restaurants in cities all over the world for 20 years. Service is just as good. Prompt, friendly, and patient.

I used to go to Saavana's in NYC for great South Indian food until I discovered a local option that's just as good. Service is ok, the decor is nothing fancy, but the food is phenomenal.

It was exciting to see a South Indian restaurant in the neighborhood - one of its kind! Unfortunately, the monopoly seems to have caught up with these people. The quality of food and the customer service has consistently gone south! Several other issues: 1) It almost feels like a one man show - there is only one guy who takes orders, then runs over to the cash your check, and he disappears for lengthy periods of time (is he the cook too I wonder!) 2) There is only one lady who functions as bus boy - Although she does have a good knowledge of the foods. 3) Customer service is really bad. I ask for coffee, and the lone ranger says "it will take 45 minutes". I show up for dinner one night with my whole familyand he forces me to go to an ATM and get cash because something about the credit card machine is not working. I call for take out, and he says "I am a little busy right now, I will call you back in ten minutes" - and calls me back three hours later at 10 PM!! He is a little busy for me?? How do you run a business like this? He just lost a 200$ order! So to those who crave south Indian food, here is my recommendation: Skip the restaurant and make it at home. Its really easy, far more nutritious and way more delicious! For starters, try Chandra Padmanabhan's book "Dakshin".

Wonderful experience! Very surprising. We went for the buffet Saturday PM. Great selections. The dosa was not as crisp as it might be, but it was custom made and quite tasty.

All Vegetarian and I liked it. It is a buffet place and the bill is $15.00 per person. Good selection on the buffet. Simple to get fed in that you enter, you eat, you pay and you leave. They will come to your table with water (that was room temp). I'll go back with my vegetatian kin.
