Home style, homemade and no corners cut. Mexican food the way it should be. Seems to be family run and cooked to order. The tacos are fantastic, fajita mix was wonderful. Homemade tortilla chips great salsa, pico they did keep it kind of light on the spice since we're gringos if you like spice ask for more jalapenos all this plus great price and free margarita on the rocks :-)

The food is fresh and authentic, though a bit pricey. I live fairly close, but do not go often because it takes a lot to fill up on. Recommend the tacos - and make sure to get a variety to try them out.

Food was very basic and bland, 2 stars are for the quacamole, although it arrived with no chips and then our waitress dissapeared. Service was terrible. You can tell when a restaurant owner has passion, this one has none. I'll try exton or West Chester for some Mexican next time...

I came here to finally experience mexican cuisine that wasn't from an american chain. Small restaurant, small seating, small bathroom(and accordingly small sinks). I was pretty excited about this place because it's as local as it gets. But then the food came out. I tried the pork tamale, not my thing. The entrees were the burrito llegal, chicken fajitas, and enchilada mole(?). The fajitas were salty salty and the tortillas were tiny and i think made of corn. Not really my thing. The enchiladas were ok at best. I was waiting to be blown away by the rice and refried beans but I wasn't. The only decent thing we had was the burrito. It is huge. The steak in it was good and overall it seemed like an ideal dinner. I couldn't tell you what 80% of the menu is made of cuz my mexican food fix is fajita mondays at chili's. So overall I think I'm just not a mexican food person because there are many opposite reviews. Yes YELP, you are "too big to fail."

First decent authentic Mexican food we've had since moving from SC to PA. It's really good food! The salsa verde was very fresh and so yummy. The Carne Asado Burrito Illegal is enormous and delicioso! My husband loved his chorizo tostada and chicken chimichanga. We will be back very soon.

My boyfriend and I went to dinner tonight and were very disappointed. We have gone here other times and had a great meal. Tonight, we sent back a dish twice and it was still not correct. He ordered a burrito with very simple instruction to leave out the lettuce, tomato and onion. The first time it came loaded with all three. The waitress took the order again, even asked me for confirmation. She even laid the order on the table for us to review it! It clearly said no pico, lettuce or onion! The second burrito came out loaded with lettuce! She never came back to the table to see if everything was ok. She was not friendly and did not seem to care whether we got what we asked for. Sadly, I do not believe we will come back to this restaurant.

Simply the best authentic Mexican food in Chester county !!!!! You have to try the food. Did you ever want to find one of those small "hole in the wall" places that has outrageously great food? This is that place ! My wife and I have ordered almost everything off the menu and have not been disappointed yet. You have to try the burrito illegal with green sauce.

Excellent local Mexican place! The food is delicious and the prices are great. It is definitely more authentic than most Mexican food out there :) would definitely be back!

We went here for dinner. Our friends who live in Downingtown wanted to try it so we made the trip down. Needless to say it wasnt worth the trip. The interior looks very gaudy and the AC units in the windows were distracting. The tables have plastic on them looking like a 90yr old woman's house. We started off with their salsa and chips, and got some guacamole. The salsa was ok but a bit watery. The guac was chunky and looked more like a salsa than a guacamole. It wasnt that hot and we didnt even end up finishing it. The chips were decent but thick and very crunchy. I had the enchiladas. 2 cheese and 2 chicken, that also came with rice on the side. The enchiladas were small and had absolutely no sauce on them. Looks like they were cooked earlier and just heated up drying the sauce up. They covered them in lettuce and sour cream so you could barely see what you were eating. Others in our party had fajitas and tacos. They said their meals were ok but nothing you couldn't make at home. Our waitress was nice and obviously being a family business was a daughter. She was very young and really inexperienced. The owners should have atleast trained her before putting her on the floor. Overall the food was average and the service was subpar. That is probably why there was no one there on a saturday night at 7pm. I doubt this place will make it. I would hit up On the Boarder in Exton before going to Rincon again.

Wow, this place is crazy tasty! I got myself some enchilada verdes and guacamole for take out and I was really pleased. There was not a long wait at all, even though I was a walk-in. The decor inside leaves something to be desired, but this is clearly a place that prides itself on the food, so it really doesn't matter. Parking is nearby, but it's all street parking, so you might have to walk a block. The guacamole was made fresh and came with lots of cilantro, tomatoes, and onions. The most interesting thing about it was the consistency-- more chunky than creamy, but I liked it-- great flavors. The biggest drawback is that the chips are not included with any dish. It's a bummer, but you can order a good-sized bag of chips for a dollar, so I wasn't too unhappy. The green pepper sauce on the enchiladas was just the right amount of spicy for me-- it had a kick, but it didn't make my tongue fall out. Nice big chunks of steak-- and lots of it, too. Yummy Mexican food on the whole.

The service is not the best here but I find that is typical with many Mexican restaurants. If you are not in a hurry its perfectly fine. The food is really delicious. The guacamole is some of the best I've ever tasted!

Very very authentic Mexican food. Some of the best guacamole in the area. The restaurant is a little small and the service tends to be a bit slow but the food is absolutely delicious.

OMG-the rudest wait staff I have every encountered too bad I had to just walk out!!! Walk in the waitress looks at me no greeting, I swear she rolled her eyes and walked to the one table of customers in the whole restaurant. She took there order went back to the kitchen, taking her time to come out to where I was-STILL NO HELLO, how are you sorry for the wait, nothing came out of her lips. I ordered the chicken hurache to go my favorite, her first words as she looked over her shoulder "that will take longer then usual because of the large order I just put in" REALLY ONE TABLE AND THEY CAN'T HANDLE IT!!!! no sorry, nothing. Needless to say I will not be back with that rudeness and inefficiency too bad!!!

Outstanding food! Not your standard mexican restaurant, they really separate themselves from the others in a great way!

Mehhhh. Go to chipotle instead. We got take out a few weeks ago. The chips are homemade but taste stale. I had chicken fajitas which were pretty good. My boyfriend go tacos and a beef quesadilla...he was less than impressed

I was raised on TexMex food, and for a long time you couldn't find Mexican food anywhere here in the NorthEast. To find a Mexican restaurant in the middle of Pennsylvania was a treat. I would give the food 3 stars, but the fact that you can get it at all in central PA adds another star :)

Ambiance - 2 Stars: Its not pretty in here. Mirrors on the walls, ceiling tiles are old, floors are old, tables are covered with those foamy plasticy table cloths, tables rock around. Service - 2 Stars: Service is just not good here. You need to be patient and expect a decent amount of waiting for your server to come back to your table. Usually only 1 or 2 servers even on weekend nights. Food - 4 Stars: Solid food. If you can get by the fact that this place is a total dive, and the service is awful - You'll be sure to enjoy some seriously delicious and mostly authentic Mexican cuisine. The Molcajete is a must, and it's just about the only thing I order every time I come. It's the most expensive item on the menu, but can easily feed 2 normal eaters - or one seriously hungry hombre. Filled with several different types of meat, queso, jalepenos, onions, and a delicious tomato based sauce, served with fresh tortillas. My mouth is watering just writing about it. Again, expect a wait. This comes straight out of the oven served in a Molcajete (like a mortar bowl), and will take around 30 minutes to prepare. Other items on the menu are pretty decent as well. We have tried several other things, and they're pretty good as well. Molcajete is by far the most flavorful thing at the restaurant. A few good dessert items, and a tasty Horchata. Salsas and Guacamole are nice. Cost - 5 Stars: This place is definitely a good bang for your buck. Unfortunately I have to give Rincon Tarasco 3 stars due to the lack of service and ambiance. But like I mentioned, if you can get over these two things - you're sure to have a good meal. It's BYO, so bring whatever you want to drink and forget about the wait. As a note, I have never tried take out from here - only eat in.

I think about Mexican food probably more often than any would believe possible. And I've visited Rincon Tarasco for the past several years. (It used to be called Las Comadres. I don't know why it changed; but that occurred a few years ago.) Don't go here for the ambience. You'll be disappointed. Don't go here for the convenient parking, bar service, or white-gloved waiters. But please go here if you appreciate good, straightforward Mexican food. This is a family restaurant that offers authentic Mexican food. They offer take-out, and the food is prepared in a kitchen area that is comfortingly visible, at the front of the restaurant. The menu is reasonably diverse, and includes items that are more traditional Mexican. My personal favorite is the Huarache. This is a large, hand made corn tortilla stuffed with your choice of meat. There are several varieties offered, but Rincon Tarasco does al pastor (pork marinated in pineapple and spices) better than anyone else in the greater Philadelphia area. That alone is worth the visit. But, as other reviewers report, there is much more to enjoy at this consistently delightful casual diner. Excellent food. Fairly priced. But bring your own ambience.

I went in for diner Saturday night with my husband as we usually do, the food is delicious and very authentic we've never had a problem with the waitress service but this time it was awful we normally go in every Saturday and get the same waitress 'Eddit' who's service we love!! We order a guacamole as we usually do and didn't get it till after our entry was already at the table it was awful every time we needed the waitress we had to get up and walk to the counter to get there attention! But other than that the food is delicious I recommend the camarones ala diablo!

If you're looking for AUTHENTIC Mexican food -- this is the place! Try the Gorditas-- made with handmade corn tortillas, fresh ingredients and served piping hot! DIVINE! Be sure to also try the flan -- to die for it's soooooo smooth! This is the REAL deal here, not the Mexican wanna-be food served by a majority of West Chester Mexican restaurants -- trust me, hailing from Calif, we've got serious chops with Mexican cuisine -- we've tried them all in WC area, this is THE BEST!!

I'm not from Mexico, nor am I of Mexican or Latino decent. There. I like Tex-Mex. I don't like authentic Mexican. The tongue taco was scary. Sorry. Maybe authentic Mexicans love this place.

I've been wanting to try this place for a while buy my family isn't as big into the Mexican food as I am so I didn't have the opportunity until the other day when I thought "I should pick it up!" That's what I did, I just got enchiladas, which comes with 4 (beef, chicken or cheese but only one kind can be chosen which was a bummer, I'd like to have mixed it up a bit), rice and beans. Since I'm not a beans fan, I told them to hold the beans. I think I was their first order of the day and other reviewers were right, quickness is not their strong suit although they were true to what they quoted at 15 minutes. The enchiladas were okay - and were more expensive than I would have thought considering they were just okay. I like my enchilada's a little saucy and although the tortilla had been dredged in the sauce, they had absorbed it all up and there was no extra. The rice was great and I needed to finish it. All in all it was okay. The girl who waited on me was okay but not very accommodating. I asked for a take-out menu (as I had ordered on the phone with no real knowledge of their menu) but was told they had run out. No other option. I don't plan on returning for take-out or to eat in.

This is the real deal...our wait was alittle longer than expected, but the food was great. We will definitely return.

Authentic Mexican food but be prepared to wait. Every dish is freshly prepared to order and based on previous reviews I ordered the Molcahete and it was terrific. It is served sizzling in a lava bowl. If you like spicy food this is a must. The beef, chicken and sausage are perfectly cooked and rich in flavor.

  • Marilyn S.

Molcahete!!!! OMG. It's thick, meaty, bubbling hot stew with melted cheese, served in a giant hot stone bowl (was it a giant coal?! It steamed for over an hour) with fresh flour tortillas. Sadly, I didn't order it...I was so jealous of my coworker who got it. Oh well, next time. Asada sopes were delicious. The only thing I didn't particularly like was the guac - I prefer it a little more crushed than whole chunks, and there wasn't a whole lot of taste to it. Also, you have to ask for everything twice and make sure you repeat yourself a few times; the waitress doesn't catch much the first time around.

Great place. Similar menu to what I always saw in Texas. Among the best in the area. Food is obviously made fresh, so be patient with the ordering time, it's worth it.

Fantastic Mexican food. I'd have to say it's definitely the best I've had in the area. We get take out from here a few times a month and it never disappoints! It's authentic and absolutely delicious. And.. inexpensive! Rincon Tarasco is a family-run BYOB located on the corner of 322 and Wallace Ave in Downingtown. It's very small and unassuming. I've never dined in the restaurant before but can say that they are very friendly at the register where we collect our take out. They offer Mexican sodas along with the regular options, like Coke, in small fridge as you enter the restaurant. NOW on to the food! They have the most tasty homemade tortilla chips, salsa, and guacamole. I recommend them all! The guacamole is chunky and has diced tomato in it. Love! My boyfriend tends to get the chorizo gorditas and the mexican style tacos, and raves about both. While I often get the tacos dorados and the american style tacos. The difference between the mexican and american tacos are that the american has cheese and tomatoes added while the mexican does not, it has onion and cilantro served with lime slices. Their rice is delicious, and friends of ours have had their burritos (they have a few different kinds) and everyone has enjoyed them all. They have quite a selection on their menu and I look forward to trying a lot more. We tell everyone about this place! If you love Mexican food, you will love Rincon Tarasco!

This is one of my favorite places and am currently plotting to get back there again soon! LOVE LOVE LOVE the guac, and its a must try. chunky and oh so perfect on anything They start of the meal with a nice basket of chips and 2 kinds of salsa plenty of choices for fans of burritos cute byob

  • Dick D.

This is a small family-owned BYOB Mexican restaurant. The food is superior to anything you'll find in your typical Azteca munchery. Everything is made to order, even the Guacamole, so it's fresh and delicious. You can see the kitchen staff working their buns off from the front counter. Service may be slower than you'd like, so plan for a leisurely meal. You won't get a better Mexican meal this side of Toluca.

  • Pete D.

This is my go to Mexican restaurant! The owner is very friendly as well as all of the staff. The food is as authentic as it gets. I keep going back to this place because they have so many good choices. They lure you in with free handmade salsa and tortilla chips. My favorite meal is the Molcajete, a lava pot filled with different meats and cheese with a perfectly balanced array of spices. Wash it down with a good beer, or the sweetened rice milk drink who's name escapes me. While they do not serve alcohol, it is BYOB. And with victory right down the street you have no excuse not to have great beer with your meal. I highly recommend Rincon Tarasco!

Service was way below average. Had to hunt down the waitress for refills, had to remind waitress to bring a missing part of our order, forgot sweetener for the iced tea, etc. Aside from ordering and food delivery, waitress was never present and never stopped by. Dining room is small, about 10 tables more or less. Atmosphere is non-existent. Food was authentic, fantastic and inexpensive. The guacamole is unique, unlike any other place I've been too. It's almost like an avacado-tomato-onion salsa -- and it's excellent on the thick, homemade corn tortilla chips. Tacos are available in multiple styles, including the the traditional cilantro, onion and lime version on a corn tortilla. Homemade corn and pork tamales are also available a la carte along with plenty other standard fare.

Probably the best Mexican food I've had in the area. Very well priced. Atmosphere is pretty much nonexistent. Food is good, but not great (I've definitely had better, but probably not in this area). As others noted, the guacamole is chunky, more of a rustic styling compared to what most people are used to. I liked it, but not sure that most of the others I was with felt the same. Nice selection of jarritos and other Mexican sodas!

Decent authentic Mexican food at bargain prices! Shocked to eat real Mexican food in Chester County. Try the Enchiladas Rojas and savor the superb fresh guacamole!

  • Tom B.

Food is excellent. Service is very inconsistent. I only got take-out once, and they forgot about the order, and I sat waiting for another 30 minutes - total of an hour to get the food. Also, sit-down service... it's ok to have trainee waiters, but don't leave them on their own to wait on a table of 8! That was really messed up. So it's pretty good if you get lucky with the service.

    (4)
  • Michael G.

Terrific Mexican food, but agree with the others that the service and atmosphere are severely lacking. That being said, I'll be going back again and again since the food is so good with the hopes that if they make enough money they will replace the shiny brass ceiling and lights from the 80s, have someone with construction skills work their magic on the walls and floor, and have someone train their waitstaff on some basic serving skills. All joking aside, I think that if they invested in these areas that they could expand the restaurant into a larger space and attract a huge crowd.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
