Hmmmm it says new owners, maybe they shouldn't have advertised that, because it seems to have gotten worse compared to the reviews for the former "Mulan". I feel so torn about how to review this place, really for 1 reason. I am addicted to crab puffs (rangoon) as my yelp list can verify. These were finally the best crab puffs I've had anywhere in oregon. HOWEVER..... everything else I ate was borderline repugnant. Soup was mystery soup to say the least, really nearly inedible. The chicken dish was just as gross, and in a sauce so thick and viscous and nasty that my fork held its vertical position when stuck into it! It's cheap, and very dirty in there, smells, but service is friendly and quick, maybe go here for beer and crab rangoon, then maybe 5 stars with a nose plug.

This used to be the Mulan Chinese Restaurant but it changed owners November 2010. This is the restaurant that's right next to the Shiloh Inn. We went on a Friday evening and the place was dead. The only other patrons were a little on the loud and obnoxious side. Not sure if they were mentally challenged or on drugs, but it would have been nice to be seated a little farther away, given that the entire restaurant was empty. You get an amazing amount of food for the price. We got some family dinner thing. Everything was deep fried. The quality of the food was very so-so. We won't be back... we've been to several Chinese places in Astoria that also had a lot of food for the price and better quality.

We are from the San Francisco area, so we like to think of ourselves as pretty knowledgable about Chinese food. We ordered four dishes, but was told by the waiter that it would be too much for the two of us, as he asked if we were "local." We said no, then ordered potstickers, pork cabbage wraps and wonton soup. The service was a bit slow, but we finally realized that everything was being cooked from scratch---a good reason to not mind the wait! The soup was hot and tasted rather good and had its share of wontons, vegetables and pieces of pork. The potstickers arrived also warm and while the wrappings were a bit thick to our liking, the filling was tasty. The pork cabbage wraps were quite nice--not too hot, just spicy enough. We were there in late September of 2012, so perhaps the problems the previous reviewers encountered have been solved. "Authentic" Chinese food is sometimes hard to find away from larger Chinese areas, but the Dragon River does a good job at getting it close.

Multiple visits. Chicken curry is so good that I have yet to get anything else. Ask for broccoli to add to curry and its some of the best ever. Tastes freshly made and good variety of veggies. Nice and quick service.

I went here for dinner one night and was pretty disappointed (like every other Chinese restaurant I've been to on the North Oregon Coast). I had a combination plate of General Tso's chicken, rice, fried shrimp, and cream cheese wontons (~$10). Portions were large, but food was bland. The chicken had a strange after taste, as if the cook forgot to shake off the flour before frying. The cream cheese stuffed wontons were like a cheap crab rangoon minus the crab. The shrimp were on the larger size and the best part of my meal. Decor reminded me of an outdated American restaurant. Service was friendly and food came out quick. Prices were higher than expected for a typical Chinese American restaurant.

I will never return. No service and the drinks taste like water. Not a good place to visit.

This place plays it right down the middle. They don't try all that hard, but they usually end up making a meal that is at least edible. I can appreciate that. In the end, you'll walk outta the situation full and with only a very mild sense of regret. Whatever, though. I'll eat it again.
