long long day at work so I really didn't want to cook and stopped in for a quick dinner. I sat in the bar and the lady that served me was very nice had me a beer in no time and the side of BBQ pork was very good and my dinner was fresh and was also very tasty. I will be stopping more often

We love everything about this place. The staff really knows how to hustle. You get the same quick service whether you're the only ones there, or if the place is full of customers.! It's not fancy food, but every dish we've ever had there was delicious, and the portions are large. Prepare to take some home for lunch the next day. This is our go-to place when we work late and don't want to cook. Taste of Village is a Troutale gem.

I'm not sure what the big whoop is about this place. We were staying at an RV park down the road and asked for a referral to a restaurant and this was it. I gave it two stars because on a scale of 1 to 5 I thought my food was a 1 and my husband gave his food a 4. I order a number 5 which was Kung Pao Chicken (my very favorite), Barbequed Pork and Pork Fried Rice. The Pork Fried Rice was the best part of the meal. The Kung Pao Chicken was perfect amount of spice, but you had to work to find the chicken. Way too much celery and it was salty and too saucy. The Barbequed Pork was dried out except for two small slices. It was terrible. My husband had a number 10. Beef with Broccoli, Pork Fried Rice and Fried Shrimp. I tried my husband's beef and shrimp and they were much more acceptable. He tried mine and agreed it was not good. The people behind us ordered the Barbequed Pork and I wanted desperately to jump up and say "don't do it", but I restrained as perhaps they got a new chunk of pork. No, the service isn't good, but I didn't even take that into account with this rating. I was hoping the server would ask us how our meal was but she never did. I was going to nicely mention that my pork was dried out. I have had waaaay better Chinese food.

Although I have never "dined" in the restaurant or bar, I have them on speed dial for take-out. Love their food a lot. Always good portions and their egg foo young is quite delicious.

Meh. Food was sub-par, service wasn't overly friendly and the interior was tired and very dated. If you want good comfort Chinese in the Gresham/Troutdale area go to Szechuan Open Kitchen.

This place sucked, you can tell the food has been sitting in a pot for a while. The place is dusty and they play the same radio songs we've heard a thousand times which means it doesn't have a Chinese atmosphere...I can tell as soon as I walked in the door They just wanted my money. The food was too expensive for the portion I got. You want orange chicken? Too bad, gotta pay ten bucks for it and you don't get any sides with it. This food sucks and I left hungry...taste of garbage..

Came with a large group so got to try a lot of items! Started with BBQ Pork-really fresh & moist ...a winner Fried shrimp -fresh, piping hot & not greasy tasting...another winner Hunan Trio(Shrimp, Chicken & Beef with a perfect ratio of veggies & great sauce)-loved it! Kung Pao Beef-(tender beef, nice flavor but too much celery for my taste). Cashew chicken (generous portion of cashews & moist chicken but that celery thang again) General Tso Chicken=Yum! Mongolian Beef-(lots of tender beef-a winner) Salt & Pepper Shrimp (Fresh Tasty Shrimp, generous portion) another winner Fried Rice & Chicken Lo Mein (they were good) Top 2 dishes Hunan Trio & General Tso's Would love a bit more spice on the hot & Spicy selections

I lived down the street from this place for about a year and ate there often. The orange chicken (to go, because they give you the sauce separately that way) is the best I've ever had, anywhere, ever! They deep fry finger size pieces of the chicken so the batter is nice and crispy on the outside and the inside is nice and tender. The orange sauce has slices of oranges in it and is made from scratch. I was shocked to find out that KATU news gave them a dirty dining report (at first), but them I looked around at the place and YES, it is (as another reviewer said) very outdated. The interior is musty and "expired" (can't think of a better word). The orange chicken is $9.75 and it feeds two. The fried rice is crappy though. You can tell that the rice they use is more than a day (or even more) old. The restaurant is separate from the bar and I have rarely opted to "dine-in" the restaurant section. The bar is usually occupied by a small group of locals and you can sit down at a booth or table and have food served to you there, but it takes quite a bit longer to get food served in the bar because there is usually only one person (bartender) to go get the food and serve drinks. Love the orange chicken! (did I say that already? :)

The food was great. I will definitely go back. The service was fast. However, if you want a friendly server go somewhere else. Doesn't smile, ask how it is or comment when spoken to. That's fine. I just don't have to leave a big tip. I am a big tipper but only I service is good and friendly. Being unfriendly gives you a small small tip. Meant if not I.

Love the food. The service is lousy. The owner is a little grumpy. Although it's a family favorite at my house.

This is hit or miss. Have rated low on news. But when I order something they have to cook fresh it's always been tasty. Went last nite sept 14. Ord Sizzling scallops & shrimp to go. I divine. Has Many different veggies steamed to perfection with scallops and large shrimp in a light sauce with white rice. Tasted excellent and good for me. This was a hit Also. In regards to the building. This is in Historic Troutdale. These bldgs have been here for I think over 60 years. The bldgs like these are part of the towns history so prob won't be revamped to look fancy. On the walls you'll find some interesting photos and historical facts on this bldg.

We have had dinner here twice and love the food and service. A very friendly staff.

I cant understand the good reviews on this place because it is the most sickening food I've had in years. The waitress was old grumpy and slammed the dishes on the table deliberately. Just a plain nasty old woman who went from being overtly friendly to favorite customers to deliberately rude to strangers. The fried rice was just that old dried rice with soy sauce that was fried. No egg, meat or vegetables . The orange chicken had a cup of lemon custard slop poured over it, really revolting. One dish after another was poorly prepared inauthentic unspicy slop from a can mixed with off colored meats. Save your health and eat at the fast food place. We seriously felt ill afterwards until the next afternoon. Some of the local customers could be heard saying how much they enjoyed the food and admitted they never really had Chinese food before. It's gonna blow their minds when they do. The filthy foggy fish tank full of koi at the front desk was extra disgusting.

It is typical Chinese American, but was good and fresh. Older building, typical tavern type bar. Service was good and timely. Enjoyed the meal.

Me and my family love the food from here. We have a large family and for around 40 bucks you can get a great meal. Our favorites are the house lo mein, orange chicken, and the general Tao chicken. We Get these w crab puffs and fried shrimp for less than $40, and I also have a nice lunch for work the next day.

I asked my husband where oh where way out here could we get some Chinese food that isn't greasy. He got in the car and drove here. He brought home the following- Mongolian beef- really tender meat and very nice brown sauce and meat to veggie ratio was perfect. Kung Pao shrimp- if you like peas, carrots, celery and a few shrimp this is good. It wasn't spicy hot at all even though there were a couple whole chilies in it. It wasn't greasy though! Chicken low mein- the chicken was white meat only and super moist. The flavor of the sauce was really tasty and the noodles cooked just right. This was another winner. Crab puffs- total pass. Filled to capacity with strange tasting cream cheese. At least the wrappers weren't greasy. Egg roll- another pass- unless you like them filled with celery, peas, carrots and cabbage, all mushed up so you can't really tell the difference between them. The wrapper was really thick but pretty darn crispy and not at all greasy. Totally average food, not greasy and the portions are large so you get your monies worth. I would get chicken low mein and Mongolian Beef again for sure. I'll come back and try a few of the other things on the menu, like the wonton soup.

When coming to this restaurant, come hungry! Their portion size is huge and we typically bring home enough leftovers for 1-2 lunches after. The restaurant is a little dated but is neat and tidy. Anytime we need a quick fix for some Chinese food this is our stop. We recommend the General Tso Chicken.

This is my dad's & I "go-to" take-out Chinese place. Quality of food id give 3.8/5 stars. It's not the best I've ever tasted & not the worst. I do prefer this establishment over the other Chinese place by the truck stop. The crab puffs here are delicious & the egg rolls are my dad's favorite. They come 3 for 6.50 but they are HUGE. The lunch, dinner & family combos come generous with good at a decent price. The restaurant was clean & the service was quick & friendly! We just ordered take out--our order was accurate & was ready when we went to pick it up! I'd recommend this for a quick meal fix at a good price!

I'm giving four stars ONLY because of ONE older staff member who can be short and inattentive. Other staff wonderful, so please, Taste of Village, consider her retirement. I live in Troutdale and have never heard any other complaint than this one. Food EXCELLENT, large portioned, always fresh, authentic and since I often do carry-out, they are always prompt and food is ready when they say it will be! Inside dining area small and they are frequently busy, (a very good sign in itself!), but if you do have to wait, it's WELL worth it!

Haven't gone back since January - see my previous review. Has anyone gone lately and had the Mongolian Beef? It used to be excellent but terrible last time I had it. I always wondered if they had staff problems that particular day but wont go back until someone tells me the Mongolian Beef is back to previous standards!

The food is good. Not the best I've tried and certainly not the worst. The atmosphere is drab, dated and unkempt but not unclean. The only thing that really saves this place are their portion sizes. Be cautious when ordering one plate could nearly feed two people! I am not exaggerating! Great place too easy after hiking got half a day.

On our way to see the waterfalls on the scenic byway for the Columbia River Gorge and we decided we better grab a bite to eat. After Troutdale there isn't many places to stop for food. It doesn't look like much on the outside or the inside, your typical little Chinese joint. it was about 2pm and we could still order from the lunch menu. The prices were very reasonable, and we ordered the Sweet and Sour Chicken and the Fried Shrimp. It came with soup which was one of the best Egg Drop Soups I have had, they also came with a Spring Roll and 2 Fried Wontons and your choice of steamed rice or pork fried rice. The chicken was all white meat and very good, but the shrimp was excellent! You get 6 large prawns that were so tender and tasty! You must try this little joint, it is worth the stop!

Good service. Excellent food. Had Hunan chicken, szechuan beef, and egg foo young. Very yummy!

Took a chance and we hit the jackpot! Food was fresh and not overlooked or greasy. Hot and Sour Soup was excellent, so we ordered more to take home. Don't misunderstand Chinese service. In general, they work very hard and our expectation of smiling and friendliness faces is not their custom. Our order was taken quickly, the food came out in five minutes and everything we requested was supplied promptly. If you want a tasty and healthy meal, try this place.

I wouldn't know what it tastes like. We sat and waited for 15 minutes after the hostess acknowledged our presence and said she needed to bus a table. She then proceeded to do everything BUT bus a table. Sorry, Taste of Village, but your amusing name isn't going to be enough to make me come back.

My in-laws live in Troutdale, and when the whole family comes to town, we always eat here at least once. The food is VERY good, and the portions are generous. We have never been dissatisfied with anything we have ordered. The restaurant is small, though, and can fill up pretty quickly when a large crowd like our family comes in. I want to make one comment about what people have said about the server. She is a very hard working woman, and I believe one of the owners. She doesn't have nearly enough help when they are busy. One time, I was sharing a story about my special needs son with my in-laws, and I broke down in to tears. Embarrassing in a restaurant, yes, but that's real life. When we stood up to leave, the server came over and gave me a giant hug and said "God bless you." So give her a break; she's a first class lady.

This is hands down my favorite Chinese food place in the area. I always order the house special lo main and general taos chicken (I can't spell and I know it lol). They are so good. Eventually I decided to try something new and I wasn't let down. Now I have to have a mental fight about what to order cause it's all so amazing. I'd highly suggest this place. So good

We decided to try this place with my wife. Upon walking in the place looked fairly old and had an odd smell. Nothing gross or disgusting just an odd unusual smell. Quickly the nostrils got used to it and it was gone. The furniture looked fairly new. The dining area was fairly small, for maybe a maximum of 30-40 people. We ordered their special for $9.50. The food came out much quicker than I thought and automatically I was expecting the worst, but to my surprise everything tasted very good! The food was very hot. The combo had 4 different dishes and the portions were generous. My wife only are half and I ate most of my food but couldn't finish the whole plate. Pros: - Great portions - Food was yummy - Food was fresh - Not expensive Cons: - Older establishment - All 4 dishes were on one plate, I didn't like how the sweet sauces were mixed with the plain sauces - The odd funny smell I would definitely recommend this restaurant to try at least once. We will not be returning but we do not regret trying it!

The food is reasonably good. But order from the bar side to avoid the waitress on the restaurant side. The bar side has the same food and better atmosphere!

Food is good. Hot, not expensive no problems. Service yikes do not bother the server she may bite! I did everything I could think of to get her to speak, or act friendly in any way, not happening. It actually became a challenge to see if she would grow manners. Never happened..

This has been my go to place for years best Chinese food around. The portions are huge and can be shared. The egg flower soup is the best I've ever had. The server is great. Treat her with respect and you'll be set. There is only ever one server to run the busy restaurant so that that into account. Great food.

Food was quick, hot and good- Special Combo 10 broccoli beef, fried shrimp and pork fried rice. I see what previous Yelpers say about the main server not smiling but it is definitely cultural. Give her a break, I was able to get a slight grin and there were plenty of smiles from the younger hostess. The service was very attentive with or without the smile. Overall the food was worth the time. I recommend it.

I like my chinese food, I also like to have some selection as a veggie, and Taste of Village is fairly middle of the road. The building it is housed in needs some serious updating and the decor isn't too far behind. The food won't blow your socks off, but you will get a good value for your money. I tend to get the Vegetable Lo Mein which is reasonably tasty and in huge portions.

I wish there is a 0 star that I could give this place. Today is my b-day and me and my spouse decided to try this place based on Yelp reviews and the fact that we were in for some Chinese. First of all I should have known that the place was bad since no one was there at 12:30 PM on Monday. I thought to give it a try. Waitress seemed not to care about us (older lady with awful attitude). We ordered crab puffs as appetizer, and I had orange chicken (I based my selection on Jennifer K. reveiw) - (there is lunch special size and family size - since I was hungry I ordered family size). My wife ordered Broccoli something something. I can't remember the name of the dish. Crab puffs were really good. However, when main dishes came they were huge but the taste was.... non existing. Rice was without any spices and I could go on about it for few more lines here. However, the point is that we didn't take the leftovers with us. As the matter a fact we only ate 1/5 of both dishes and half a bowl of rice. We ate that 1/5 because we were so hungry that it took us few bytes to realize that we are eating junk. My wife's dish didn't came with broccoli (and it has broccoli its name!!!!) I am not sure what other people here ate before, maybe there was other chef, or place completely was re-done to worse but fast food joint is Ritz for this place. I only registered to Yelp to post this comment. I feel obligated to inform others about how awful this place is. Another older couple came in after we received our dishes and we were debating to save them by saying something. Point of this story - do not go near this place.

Chinese Cuisine

The popularity of Chinese food in America can be adjudicated by the appearance of China Town in many major cities in the United State of America. The popular trend of ordering or opting for Chinese take away food isn't unknown in America. Chinese take away food comes to rescue when you're too tired from work or too exhausted to cook. No one can resist the temptation of eating spicy noodles, shrimp, chicken, beef or pork cooked in the sweet and spicy sauce. The cooking method of authentic Chinese food is a lot different compared to what is served in America.

Generally, Chinese use dark meat small bones and organs to cook dishes but this changes when you are eating American-Chinese fusion food prepared using white boneless meat cooked with broccoli, carrots and onions. Back in China, the food is less spicy and oily as they favor steaming and braising method for cooking the most popular dishes. So, if you have a taste for authentic Chinese food, then try finding a real Chinese restaurant in the city. You can also try the most popular fusion Chinese food like Pecking Duck, Chicken Feet, Hot Pot, Shrimp Dumpling Soup, Mapo Tofu, Wontons, Chop Suey, Egg Rolls and not to forget Fortune Cookies.

There are not many restaurants in America serving authentic Chinese food. A little research on Restaurant Listings directory can help you locate the best Chinese restaurants in the city. Chinese cuisine is continuously evolving, and you can find a variety of dishes categorized as the food for lactose intolerant, gluten intolerant, vegan, vegetarian, and diabetic friendly. So, if you have a group of friends with different taste patterns, save the hassle and visit the nearest Chinese restaurant in your city.
