The menu items seem tasty, but the execution is far from it. The only flaw of Rio Restaurant is the taste of the food. The service is good and pleasant and the atmosphere is equal. Margaritas are a big, tasty surprise too. The most apparent advice would be for the chefs of Rio to re-do each menu item so that the recipes are flawless and tasty. I ordered the prawns and scallops which were almost raw. The shrimp was still purple and the scallops had a mild taste of its milky brine. The mole tasted like it was made with mostly generic cheap sweet milk chocolate. Even sending this dish back would still not fix this issue because its accompaniments weren't tasty. There was no "fix it" option. A friend ordered the steak tacos. I said it tasted exactly like rubber because fire, oil, low quality meat, lack of seasoning, and over cooked is relatively like eating rubber. My boyfriend, who ordered the chicken enchiladas, said he didn't like his dish. I believe him solely because he's easy to please and usually enjoys everything he eats. I hope this can better the menu at Rio. If the food is off once in a while, the owner or chef needs to make sure the cooks are following the recipes exactly. If there aren't any recipes, create them. Would like to go back if the food gets a lot better.

We had a great lunch here. The menu is not your typical run of the mill enchilada-burrito-taco stuff. I had zuchinni blossom, summer squash soup to start with a well seasoned slow cooked pork entree. My spouse had the authentic home style mole enchiladas which were outstanding. Even the starter chips and salsa were great with fresh chunky salsa . We couldn't finish anything and our bill was less than $30 with beer.

Took an hour for my family to get their food. We got our food before both tables on either side of us, both parties where there before us. One couple got up and walked out without eating. My food was tasteless, the beans were soggy and looked to be right out of a can. I had to add salt to my carne asada ...

Amazing food, excellent margaritas! I had fish tacos. They were really good. You could tell the fish was fresh and serving size was huge. Topped it off with a Cadillac margarita that was strong and had great flavor. Will definitely make it a mandatory stop after mt. bike ride or when passing thru Sisters.

Our waitress was not very attentive. The dishwasher was the one who helped us the most even though it was the waitress job to help us. Good food and great service from our lovely dishwasher!

We arrived about 6 pm on a Sunday eve. The food took over an hour to be delivered and was cold when it arrived. The server was very pleasant and explained the kitchen was short staffed. He took back the cold food and microwaved it. It was edible. . Over all not impressed with the food what so ever. Salsa was great!

I wanted to update my review. When Rios first opened in Sisters, it took a long time to get your drink ordered and delivered, and food even though the owner is super nice. He didn't have reliable wait staff and it was disorganized. At that time I said we would keep giving it a chance because his food is very good. I'm so glad we did that. We've eaten there at least 8 times since then and the food is just so good, and he has plenty of wait staff now, and you get waited on quickly. The porch area is open and they have a fire pit you can sit up at now outside which is very cool. I'm happy for this restaurant owner because he really, really tries and it shows.

After reading several mixed review about this place, a friend pushed us over the edge to try it. So, we decided to stop and have a late dinner. Our first impression is the restaurant is clean and beautiful, were greeted promptly and sat at our table (though this was expected since it was late). However I was skeptical once I learned there was a party of 40 on the patio. But....... much to my surprise, our drinks came out quickly, we were served by two different employees (which I later found out one was the owner) both were fun. We were kept satisfied with great chips and salsa, a couple margaritas that made me VERY "happy", and our food came out in a normal time and was delicious! We didn't have a dessert, but sat around and enjoyed the ambience by the fire for a bit. Now....... back to the party of forty. Apparently there was some questions on their bill and they wanted it split like 13 different ways. Now I only heard this because the man who was "Head" of the party was speaking loudly and wanted to make his presence know to everyone there. Really all he was trying to do is pay less money for the drinks on his bill, and in my opinion, was in the wrong. The owner kept his cool the whole time and handled the situation very well and came up with a solution making everyone happy. Now, given every business has their ups and downs, good and bad days.... Overall I was impressed with our experience. We will definitely be back and I want to try the pork shoulder I saw another table enjoying.

Food and drinks were good. The wait staff was very nice but the service was extremely slow. They could use some additional experienced help to keep things going. They could have great potential with the right wait staff. The owner personally followed up with a note to our review. We will definitely be back to give it a try again. We hope your crew gets better soon.

From the stuffed avocado to the fish flautas to the margaritas...everything was amazing. The staff makes you feel like you are at home and a part of the family!!!

We came on a weeknight and the restaurant was not very busy. None the less, after waiting nearly half an hour, a member of our group had to go the bar to place a drink order because our waiter had yet to arrive. The margaritas were so watered down I think they may have been virgin. The chips were stale. Our dinner order wasn't taken until after an hour wait. The food was delivered in a staccato fashion over the course of 20 minutes and many dishes were incomplete, and they were delivered by the busboy, who didn't know what the dishes were or who had ordered them. The chicken was dry and tough, the mole was flavorless. The steak was also poor quality meat and very overdone. The sides were also extremely bland. I would recommend not eating here.

Food was great. Staff was friendly. Inexpensive yet quality food! The place was clean and the back patio is beautiful. Don't be surprised if you order one Margarita and they bring you an extra for free (because they had extra)!

Fantastic food and drink but don't be in a hurry... Seriously! But it's totally worth the wait. Best ceviche I've ever had!

A stand-out Mexican restaurant! Some of the best Mexican food I've had, much better than a typical Mexican restaurant and the service is very friendly. The owner has come up to us consistently to ask about our meal

Stopped for lunch today before we made our way home. We were the only ones there, which is generally not a great sign. But, we were pleasantly surprised! The salsa that came with the chips was excellent! The right amount of heat, in my opinion. I had the carne asada, my husband had the steak fajitas. Both dishes were excellent! So flavorful! Having lived in California the past 2 years, we had some amazing Mexican food..this rivaled our favorite spot down south. Definitely worth stopping for!!

Delicious. Very fast, friendly service! We got the poblano pepper appetizer and fish tacos and they were made to all our specifications and totally delicious. The ambiance was great as well. Loved it!

I've given it so many chances. Finally I was so embarrassed by the horribly slow service and mediocre tasting food when I brought some friends from out of town that I can't ever go back unless they seriously change some things. It took over 1.5 hours to get food that wasn't worth paying for. They were out of some things, were short handed, and messed up on 2 of our meals. They brought a free shot of something, but that didn't make up for anything. It was just chaos and they weren't even busy. I hate leaving bad reviews on local businesses and will come right back if they get serious but this place deserves all the negative reviews.

Came here for the last dinner on my birthday weekend trip. The service was spot on, pepitas mole delicious and huge fresh margarita. Rio is well worth it, and if they had some kinks to work out id say they've nailed it!

Went to Rio yesterday for dinner, and didn't have the best serving experience but the food was amazing as always. The wait staff seems to be relatively young and zero sense of urgency. We had to ask for mild salsa for the kiddos 4 or more times. Didn't get any napkins until we had to ask and kept asking for extra napkins which never showed up. My sister in laws second glass of wine never came. And we had 4 kids at the table and no kid menus until we asked for some. Our beverages took quite a while to get to the table, and were sub par at best. It was disappointing. But again the food was amazing (chicken chimichanga was excellent! ) . I think if the serving staff were more seasoned in the service industry it would be one of my top choices.

Would liked to have given this a better review but we never got to eat. Sign said open, door wide open and lady mopping says we're not open. Doesn't tell me why or when. Los agaves is great. Try them

My mother taught me if you can't say anything nice don't say anything at all- so this will be a short review. I don't know what happened last night, but this was the second worst meal I've ever had at a Mexican restaurant. Taco Bell grade ground beef, flavorless sauce, slow inattentive wait staff, diluted margaritas served in glass bowls... Go to Rancho Viejo instead.

After being seated we noticed the silverware was filthy. Inauspicious start. 3 people asked us if we wanted something besides water (we did). My wife's margarita was mostly ice and insipid. We both had moles for main courses. We were sure we could identify which commercial brand of mole they used. We like that brand but it was certainly nothing original. Asked multiple times which type of tortilla we wanted , but then we had to ask them to actually bring it out for us. My main course was barely warm. We won't be going back and neither should you.

Really solid food. The staff is friendly and the food is great. The prices are responsible. This place is new to Sisters so we weren't sure what to expect.

Great location and service. They made guacamole at our table. I got the ceviche as a meal and loved it. This a solid place for Mexican food with a modern twist!

Awesome staff! Great food and margaritas! Try the tortilla soup and their mole sauce. They always make sure you leave happy. They went so far as to 2 weeks in a Row stay open after hours mid week for us . Super friendly and attentive staff. Highly recommend!

Wonderful place to have a family lunch on vacation - the food is fresh and the service is great. The pricing is more than appropriate....really, it's a great deal! The owner is available and very personable! If you are passing through or live in the area, vote with your dollars here!!!

I feel badly giving them a tough review. I want Rio to succeed, because the food is quite good and it is located at one of our favorite places to vacation...Five Pine Lodge. (5 stars for Five Pine.) The food is a solid 4 stars and the staff- IF you can track someone down- is very nice. But they have to figure out the service piece of running a restaurant...ESPECIALLY at an amazing campus like Five Pine. It took us forever to be greeted at all, and after standing sadly in the lobby for 10-15 minutes, we were seated at a booth. We were then ignored by our server for almost 30 minutes. And then they forgot to bring us our drink order until we asked to cancel it. They were fantastic with refilling our chips & salsa (both excellent) and the water, but that was the only bright spot from the service side. They had run out of kids menus, my hub had an ok entree, but my squash quesadilla was divine. They tried to make it right at the end of the night, but by then our evening was a lost cause. Somebody, please get these guys a smudge stick to get all of the bad luck out of this restaurant space! Thyme (previous restaurant) was awesome but did not succeed, so they need all of the good thoughts -and good waitstaff- they can find. Off night? Let's hope so. We're going back in a few weeks- maybe. I hear good things about their Happy Hour...

Chef Roberto Cardenas, who once upon a time was the creative force in the kitchen at the original La Rosa in Bend and also the now defunct Amalia's of Bend, has opened Rio Sisters. This is similar to his eatery Rio Mexican Distinctive Cuisine in Madras for menu. yelp.com/biz/rio-distinc… LOCATION: In the Five Pines center, let's hope Chef Cardenas has better fortune in that location which previously housed three restaurants including Chloe and Thyme, both now closed. The latter notable for the failing because it was an effort of the McCrystals who are experienced restauranteurs and also own the well respected Jen's Garden in Sisters but who could not sustain originality and quality at Thyme. In theory it seems the restaurant located in the Five Pines complex should have perfect exposure for first time customers to find it and repeat customers to come back. Let's hope that is so for Rio's success here. My one reservation about Rio Sisters is that my husband and I, fans of Chef Cardenas' menus and food, have found outcomes are best when he is in the kitchen. La Rosa in Bend was much diminshed when he left and the kitchen at Amalia's was woeful after his departure there. Since he can't be in two places at once, we hope Rio Sisters and his Madras restaurant will both maintain the high flavor and quality standards that are his hallmark. But there can be consistency problems depending on whether Chef Cardenas is in house or not. MENU & FOOD: The menu here is similar to Rio Distinctive Cuisine in Madras for a blending of authentic and the nuevo style Chef Cardenas has said he learned from his grandmother, Amalia, during his childhood in Guadalajara. (We say gracias to his grandmother who was ahead of her time!) Traditional Mexican food items, such as combo plates built around tacos or enchiladas and build your own burrito, are great but when eating food from Chef Cardenas' kitchens, it is his nuevo renditions we want. Unique and wonderful. If you are fans of pork shoulder, arguably no Mexican food kitchen turns out a better dish with this ingredient than the Rio kitchens. Mole is one of my favorite things and moles from Chef Cardenas kitchens are allways mmmmarvelous. The menu also offers several great options for vegetarians. VALUE: My memory is lunch items ranged from roughly $5(single item combo plate) to $10 with dinner menu coming in at roughly $7(appetizers) to $15 (some entrees). Excellent value. HOURS: Open for lunch and dinner, hours are 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. on weekdays and noon to 9 p.m. on Saturday. Still largely undiscovered, this would be a great stop in if you're visiting Central Oregon over this last holiday week of the year. Once it is discovered, we bet seats at tables will be as hard to come by as they are at Rio in Madras now that it is on diner radar. THIS N THAT: FULL BAR: Although we didn't sample any libations, there are Margarita specialties on the menu. Our experience with the Madras location has been that libations are a weak spot there. We're eager to sample them at Rio Sisters soon. ACCESSIBILITY: Since many venues in Sisters are difficult to access for folks who can't climb stairs, worth a note that this location is level in and accessible from parking lot into and throughout the building.

This is a great place to eat and have a few margaritas. You can sit inside by the fire or they have an awesome patio! The food is authentic and delicious and the margaritas are great, they will also sneak up on you. We would recommend this place to anyone looking for fresh and delicious food!

We went back again for lunch, and this place is still awesome. Once again, well cooked and delicious. The owner, Roberto, was our server so he really added a special touch. He's very friendly and he gave my wife and I huckleberry infused tequila shot that was very good.

Absolutely excellent! I had Enchiladas Jaibas, seafood enchiladas, which were incredible...great sauce. My husband thought their fajitas the best he had ever been served. The margaritas flowed freely and were good.I would recommend this to anyone - I have already called all of my friends and neighbors.

We have tried this restaurant twice now and both times have been disappointed. The meats had clearly been cooked ahead. The green peppers and onions were undercooked and the sauces tasted like they were straight out of a can and lacked any flavor. Chile Relleno? The chile seeds and core had not been removed and the chile was undercooked. I know the owners are trying. Perhaps providing recipes to the inexperienced staff at this location would be beneficial.

Despite the decidedly mixed reviews that this place gets, the menu was creative enough to warrant a visit. I had read many reviews about the uneven and inconsistent service. So I had low expectations, which were unfortunately met. We arrive to a nearly deserted restaurant at 6 pm on a Friday night. The have a host/hostess stand as you walk in, but it isn't staffed. A waiter finally noticed us and said he would be right with us. Five minutes later, he came back and actually seated us. The appetizer of Queso (cheese fondue) was actually quite good, and a recipe I will try at home. The margarita was a bit plain, but rather large for the cost. The next problem came with the entrees. Actually, the problem was they just never came out of the kitchen. We weren't in a hurry, so we ordered drinks and the appetizer first before we ordered the entrees. Big mistake. By that time more people had arrived, and they were clearly understaffed. Tables surrounding us got their orders, having placed their orders after us. Finally, the different servers noticed that we didn't have our food, and both apologized and offered us shots of tequila. We declined these, because at that point we had already had drinks - we wanted our food. When it finally did arrive, it was good, not great. Certainly not worth the long extended wait. My recommendation is to wait until this new restaurant gets its serving problems worked out before visiting. Unless you have a loooong time to wait.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
