I visited this Resturant much in my youth as it was the best Mexican place in Silverton. I am sad to report that it has gone majorly downhill since then in terms of incredibly slow service and inattentiveness to orders. We simply ordered a taco with with CHICKEN and an Ixtapa Burrito with BEEF. We then received after about 15 minutes a Taco Salad with BEEF and a burrito with CHICKEN. Slow service, general lack of flavor and bland food. Wouldn't really recommend

Great food, service and atmosphere! The salsa is fresh and delicious-perfect spice level and the chips were crispy and warm. I ordered a Mango margarita and was pleasantly surprised it had a kick to it. The chicken fajitas were sizzling, well seasoned and tasty! I loved my waitress-she was very friendly, funny, and warm. The busboys cleared my table quickly and everyone was polite and attentive. I will definitely be back on my travels to Silverton!

Ixtapa is what it is as far as food goes. The brightest star here is the service. I wish I knew the waiter's name... He is the best waiter in town and I don't think the man has had a day off in 10 years. We have invaded them with 20 people with no notice and we are greeted by smiles, fair prices, and hot food. It's extremely kid and family friendly with the prompt service. My daughter chose Ixtapa for her birthday dinner last night and she smiled wide in her sombrero while we sang "Happy Birthday Dear Conchita!"

A regional chain like this one is pretty predictable and formulaic, much like most Chinese food in this country. That makes it kind of hard to really review. There isn't much that sets this "Mexican restaurant tweaked for the gabacho palate" apart from any other. There is three other Mexican offerings in Silverton: Los Girasoles and a taco truck next to Subway whose name escapes me are the two that are more authentic, but some people might find them too exotic. Also they both have hours better suited to the lunch crowd and neither has a full bar. If what you want is "regular" Mexican food or what some people might call "Tex-Mex", then you want either Ixtapa or el Toro. El Toro has weird hours and I far prefer both the food and servcie at Ixtapa. Consider trying the chicken mole. Mole is a sweet gravy, sometimes made with chocolate. Chocolate gravy? Don't knock it, it can be delicious. It's not good everywhere, a lot of Mexican places have a really bland mole. But chicken mole is excellent at Ixtapa. Picture this: chicken, salty, chocolaty, spicy, all at the same time. My wife calls it "food for when I'm on my period."

Such a great place to take the family. The staff are so incredible and greet us by name. The food is good, very consistent and generous servings. The Specialty Dishes are the best... try Arroz con Pollo or Shrimp Fajitas! One of our favorite places in town.

We brought my mom here for dinner the other night. We originally wanted to go to Salem and find food, but the night was getting too late. My mother wanted tortilla soup so I called Ixtapa, a small mexican restaurant located next to Safeway and DQ. The woman who answered the phone said, "What!" when I called. I simply asked, "Is this Ixtapa?" She replied, "I am so sorry, my kids keep calling me and I thought it was them again!" Well, I did call at 9:30pm....and honestly, my mom, wife and I were busting up laughing from it. We all love kids, and can understand why she would answer with a WHAT thinking it was her kids....we got a great kick outta it. When we showed up the place had a family in there eating so we didn't feel bad about showing up so late. The service was very friendly and we talked to the woman who answered the phone. Again she was apologetic and explained her situation, we assured her it was quite funny and to not worry a bit because we got a kick out of it. I ordered a carne asada burrito, mom had the tortilla soup and my wife had a chicken fajita. My burrito was good sized covered with sour cream and guacamole. The burrito was lacking on spices (cumin?) but was fresh tasting and wasn't too bad...but definitely not the best I've had by far. Moms Tortilla soup was VERY salty. My mom stated Chevy's has a MUCH better soup. The problem with Ixtapas was it tasted VERY salty. My mom had me try it and I agreed, it tasted like straight chicken stock. So that was a miss there... My wife seemed to be the lucky winner because she didn't hardly say anything! She was chowing down on her fajita to whole time. She said it tasted great had good spices and was perfect! So 1 YAY! I'm a fan! 1 A-ok! and 1 Eeek! Me thinks not! That averages out to about %60 so 3 stars it is. I do imagine this is probably some of the better Mexican food in town....We will see as time goes on!!

Not the most authentic Mexican food in the area, but consistently tasty, and run by a lovely family that really cares about their customers. They briefly had albondigas soup on the menu, but it turned out that the cooks don't want to make it, because it takes too long, and not enough people ordered it. Of course, when the owner heard that I had asked for it, but that it wasn't available, she told me to come back in two days. When I returned, she presented me with three large family-sized servings of homemade meatballs in a delicious broth with carrots, potatoes, and chayote, and refused to accept any payment for it...I brought back some fruit from our backyard, which she accepted, but I came out way ahead on this trade.

It was my birthday and my mistake to try the new chef's attempt at chile verde. It was definitely a science project gone bad. They were kind enough to replace it with something else but my appetite for carne was destroyed.

Always fast and friendly. Salsa is delicious. One of the best Mexican restaurants in the Silverton area.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
