I just created a yelp account and am exploring all of its reviews and useful information while leaving my own two cents about local places and it hit me, what about Sams? My husband and our two kids visited Seaside in September of 2014. So it's been almost a year since we had our experiance but it was so good, I have to leave a review! We had a massive double stroller and was eagerly greeted and helped by a waitor that showed us the side door. We were quickly seated and offered drinks with cheap 1$ beers. My husband was ecstatic hearing this. I remember not being able to decide on what to order, everything sounded good! My children colored, played and had a blast all in the very short time we waited for our food. We loved the enviornment and felt comfortable with no pressure and not embarrassed if our kids got a little loud or wanted out of the highchair. I felt like every other place we ate at in town we just got glared at (two kids under 3) but your staff was not only extremely nice to them, but acted like hey that's what kids do - its okay! Our meal was delicious and we wished we discovered this place sooner. We will be back, trust me!

Wanting some actual food after we had gelato for dinner (hey it was vacation after all...) we chose Sams. To be honest I didn't know what to expect as the reviews were all over the map. We shared a burger and salad and some bottled rootbeers. The service was great and they even split the burger and salad evenly on 2 plates so we had a nice little dinner. The burger and salad were tasty and fresh. I can't complain. Yes the decor is a little dated. But I wasn't there for fancy ambiance. I actually enjoyed some of the cheeky mermaid paintings they had, lol! *Now I don't know if this is just me, but if a menu is full of burgers and sandwitches that's the item I'm going to order, not say, clam chowder. To each their own I guess!

Cheap, tasty food and drinks. Fun atmosphere and very welcoming service. I highly recommend the oyster shooters with vodka.

We ordered the tropical burger and a Philly cheese steak sandwich both came with tatter tots. They were both good, but pretty average. As far as dinner at seaside goes they were priced very fair and the service was nice and helpful.

Now this is a great place to eat coming off of the hot beach. The strawberry lemon aid with fresh strawberries is just the start. If you would like to partake in the $1 beer happy hour from 3-5pm that is nice too. The clam chowder was nice and chunky and full of flavor. The menu is full of goodness and to make this a great place...gluten free items including bread! Customer service was great as the water glasses were never left empty. I highly recommend this place!

Amazing chili, it was just perfectly spiced and full of flavor! And don't even get me started on the fantastic burgers! Ordered an Old Fashioned from the bar as well and just like the food it was spot on, possibly one of the best I've had even! All the staff was incredibly nice too! :) If you're in town, do yourself and visit this place for a meal, you won't regret it! :D

Darcy and Eric provide 100% real world class service! You can never go wrong with ordering off of this menu. I will definitely count this as a regular stop when I visit again.

Visiting from Virginia! Just had the best dining experience of our vacation here. Service was friendly and on point. Prices are reasonable and food was excellent!! We are so glad we chose this place for lunch. Im pretty sure the owner waited on us...what a nice guy...great place for sure!!!!!!

Total POS dive bar. If that's your thing, rush right over.

I should have walked right out after I saw the disgusting cushions on the benches. Gross. Food was frozen with no flavor. The server was very nice but she didn't check on us at all, she just dropped the check off. Very disappointing.

Stopped in for lunch. We ordered some calamari. I ordered half chicken salad sandwich and clam chowder. It was good. My husband ordered a turkey sandwich and an oyster shooter. After tasting the house made cocktail sauce we ordered 3 more. It was the BEST oyster shooter I ever had! Very fresh!

  • Nicole T.

The service was amazing food was quick and the beers were cold. It was nice how the bartender knew all the regulars names and drinks. I would today come back

We had the California burger. Ingredients were fresh, salad was good, service was excellent.

Best clam chowder here! Its so fresh! Root beer from a bottle, or other soft drinks from the fountain. Walk in and sit down and your waitress will come to serve you. The cold sandwich meats taste so fresh! Everything here is great. When you sit down, there's a mirrored wall right next to you. It's so clean you don't know that it's a reflection! This is where all the locals go for a quick lunch near the beach. A bit hard to find because the sign is a bit old. Just remember it's across the street from Bee Bop's Burgers.

Worst claim chowder ever! Way too fishy and salty. Found this place by walking by, I should of Yelped it first. Service sucked too. After I received my lunch 3 minutes later I received my bill.

We come here every year for lunch during spring break. Awesome food and incredible prices. The stuffed burger was great!!!

Great basic sandwiches, and much more. Family friendly in front, bar in back. Our waitress Danie was the BEST!!! Place is right on Broadway.

Phenomenal food, great service. Decor could use a little update, but that's okay. Ask for extra beer bread if u order soup, they make it there at the shop.

Pretty good food at a fair price. The burger was good, the Philly although not traditional was good. Service was also good.

I don't eat burgers so I couldn't play it safe. Sadly I took a huge risk and tried the clams. Ive never meet a clam plate I didn't like. And even the garlic toast with it should do me ok. Sadly I couldn't be farther from the truth. I ate my food. But I did not like it. I had to drown every clam in butter to rinse off the horrid flavors. And I am lactose intolerant. I wanted to love these clams even if it meant I would spend the night on the toilet instead of with my girlfriend. And the garlic toast? Well if you can imaging a piece of toast on a block of ice and a blowtorch on the other. Then you will have what I attempted to consume. Nothing tastes worse than a burnt, let alone charred to heck, piece of garlic. My advice. Pony up and pay the extra price for another place on the strip. The cost here, from my experience, does not win out in the end. I would write more but I have to go to the bathroom. Oh, our server was very nice.

We stopped by for a quick meal last night. The service was ok and pretty fast. Food like everything in Seaside, overpriced and nothing special. Had a bowl of chowder that was ok but had a really strong fishy flavor. Salad was not looking to fresh, cheese steak sandwich was little dry. 2 stars for service.

Great, fresh food! Nice place to stop for lunch and close to the beach. Very friendly staff, and great atmosphere.

  • Chelsey T.

Great burgers, and fresh handcut french fries! Had to try the tator tots too and they were nice and crispy, with no oily taste like some places have. I got the Surf Burger, very good, could only be improved if it had onions along with mushrooms. Husband got the garlic burger and enjoyed it a lot. This place looks like a little hole in the wall from the street, but inside is very open and light. Very family friendly atmosphere, with color pages and even a bin of Mr. Potato Head toys. As usual I put my daughter's order in first, and it came quickly, hot and fresh, but not burning hot to where she had to sit and stare at it for 10 minutes which is really nice. A tasty, decently priced burger is hard to find around here, and we will be back again. Oh, and they have $1 beers for happy hour!

We went twice on our long weekend. It was that good. Homey place, open late, friendly staff, fantastic food. Recommend halibut fish and chips, pulled pork sandwiches, and homemade fries. Oh, and take home some chocolate cake for later!

    (4)
  • Derek C.

Very affordable , pretty decent food for only a block off the beach. Burgers were excellent... halibut and chips ok... fries real good... The waitress was 5star. .. checked in on us like youd expect at a Mortons or something...

  • Tina B.

A nice little spot to stop in after walking the boardwalk. Ordered the black bean burger with fries of course. Spouse had the joe's burger-with the fries. A hearty enough lunch for anyone! Loved the music playing and that it wasn't overly busy today!

    (4)
  • Sue W.

We eat here only because they are open late. There is a lovely server here who is quite personable and sweet. The burgers are tolerable and the pulled pork sandwich is generally quite good. So, the food is okay, not great, but the tables are gross. They are sticky and the ketchup containers are always sticky. This place could use a nice deep cleaning and comfortable seating would be nice, too.

Great place for a cold ale and some local seafood. They even have wifi. My adice would be to offer some wings.

  • Michelle N.

Sam's has a great location just a block or so from the beach. It is reasonably priced for its location. They have amazing burgers and fries. There are two tables that are located right by the window and if you can snag one of them, they're great for people watching. Overall, good food at a great bargain.

    (5)
  • Sam B.

I love Sam's. I have been coming here for years. I have food issues now and deal with my stomach aches just to eat here. (I am gluten free, dairy free, and I can't eat potatoes) Their french fries are amazing. I look forward to them every year. It's defiantly a "hole in the wall" atmosphere. My cousin had the clam chowder. She said it was one of the better ones she has had. Everything is good here!!!

    (5)
  • Jim R.

Not good, sticky tables, awful clam chowder, cold fries...the service was ok and she easily removed the chowder from our table and our bill which was nice. This place has tons of potential but needs a hug from the owner to take it to the next level.

My fiancé and I decided to stop in here for a bite to eat after walking around Seaside, the usual reason for why anyone randomly walks into a new place to eat while exploring. We liked the menu description for the food so we stayed. I ordered the Pacific Cod Sandwich and he ordered the 1 lb of clams in some sort of beer or white wine sauce (I can't remember). My sandwich was delicious, I have no complaints about my sandwich, nor of the fried mozzarella sticks we also ordered as appetizers. However, my poor fiancé can't say the same about his dish. The clams tasted a little too fishy but were otherwise alright when dipped in the butter sauce, they just were downright nasty in whatever sauce they were first cooked in. That flavor just didn't go with the clams. His garlic bread had burned pieces of garlic all over which affected the taste and my fries were overly oily and just a bit overdone. I like my fries crispy but with all the oil they became burnt, soggy fries after they cooled down. Next time just order the same thing I get honey. :)

This is a decent place to grab a relatively quick bite in Seaside. When you're tired and sandy and need a cold beer and some warm not fancy food, this hits the spot. Our kid even has a t shirt. That's how much she liked it. Why? Um, Tater tots and ketchup. She adores them. Really, she had a garden burger to go with them, but it was the tots that won the day. We've had other burgers, chowder, fish and chips... nothing has been bad except for the breeze on our table ( we wondered why no one else took that one) from the door when people forget to shut it behind them. Seems it's a trend looking at other reviews. I like this place. It's not fancy, it's not gourmet, necessarily, but it's warming and filling and not too spendy. That way there is more money for the toy store by the carousel, as Princess pointed out.

We went on a recommendation of a local who had said they had great clam chowder. It was the worst clam chowder I have ever eaten! When they served it, it smelled awful, then after tasting it, it tasted way too fishy and salty! We also ordered the popcorn shrimp which also had a clammy taste. My husband did enjoy the fish and chips though. We would never go back! I had to go somewhere else to eat after we left because it was so inedible!

    (1)
  • Brandon W.

French dip was avg at best. Our son ordered popcorn shrimp that we should have saved for the dog. Shrimp not deveined. Pre-packaged frozen crap. Dreadful. Service is the only bright spot saving a 1star and its very affordable... You get what you pay for.

  • Jeff H.

I've always had a soft spot for fried clams since my family visited Howard Johnson's in my youth- these brought back that taste! Fresh and not too heavy on the breading. Ahi tuna sandwich was solid- I would ask for med-rare next time. A decent selection of craft beers and friendly, attentive service makes this a pretty good choice for a beer and seafood near the beach!

  • Ephraim A.

For an appetizer, I had a couple of oyster shooters and my fiancé had the mozzarella sticks. The oyster shooters were so good I ordered two more but couldn't really say the same thing about the mozzarella sticks. For our main course, I ordered the the garlic burger with a side of sweet potato fries and my fiancé ordered the cod fish and chips. Both the burger and the fish were good but though the sweet potato and cold cut fries were good, they were both over cooked. Back to the mozzarella sticks, they also were over-cooked on the outside but the inside were a bit cold. Overall, we really enjoyed our meal but do feel that the deep frying does need work. DEFINITELY will be coming back here to eat on my next visit. Decent pricing. Not very expensive at all.

Sorry for repeat - I have an old log in for my maiden name... +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ We ate here twice while in Seaside. It's one of the few restaurants that's open until 11pm. Not to mention the burgers were descent and the prices are reasonable. It's a casual environment with basic wooden tables and minimal decor. Our first visit was mid-afternoon on a weekday during the first week of May. It was fairly quiet. Our server was super friendly and attentive. We ordered burgers - guacamole/California style and Bacon Cheeseburger. One can expect a basic burger at a good price. The large helping of fries were tasty. Our second visit was later in the evening on Friday night (approximately 7:30 pm). It was quite busy in the back room and our server was running both the bar in the back as well as attending a couple of tables in the front of the restaurant. We had a few questions about the preparation of the Halibut & chips which she answered thoroughly. (** We highly recommend the Halibut & Chips!! Very meaty, the way it should be! ** ) Would recommend this place for above average pub food with tasty food options.

Had lunch here the other day, left feeling very satisfied. The burger I had was excellent, the meat cooked perfectly, the bun was fresh and amazing tasting, and the homemade potato chips delicious. The prices were very reasonable compared to some of the other options nearby, and for better quality food. I definitely recommend giving Sam's a try.

Great friendly service. Johnny on the spot with everything. Shame people passed this place. Food is great with reasonable prices.

Great service, male waiter was attentive and friendly. A bar style dinner with good brew on tap and yummy bread bowl. It could be a little cleaner(floor, tables, chairs). Everything looks well used. Will come back again with family.

Food was good. Great Crabcakes. We had a party of 8. We ordered fish and chips, Alaskan King Crab, etc. The only thing that needed improvement was the New England Clam Clam chowder, and the young waitresses attitude. The Older male waiter was very accommodating and professional. We would come back for sure.

After spending the morning exploring lovely Cannon Beach, my lovely companion and I decided to see if Seaside had a bead store. (They apparently don't anymore. Boo.) Feeling a little hungry, we decided to stop by Sams Seaside Cafe for some seafood and possibly a beer. Ordered the fish sandwich, and it was tasty, though the fries could have used a little more seasoning. (Ketchup rectified that, so no harm done.) My friend ordered the chowder in a bread bowl and the least expensive glass of PBR I've ever seen. (My iced tea cost more!) All in all, solid, simple food that wasn't overpriced due to location. (Check out the crazy mural along the hallway to the bathrooms! You'll be glad you did.)

My bestie and I took our kids here for lunch and I must say, this is THE best value for the money in Seaside - no doubt about that. A couple of us got pulled pork sanwiches which were really yummy - not too saucy and sweet and generous with the pork filling. A coupel more got chicken strips - good but nothing special. My daughter and I got the clam chowder - mine was served with 1/2 veggie sandwhich and hers was in a bread bowl. I actually didn't care for the consistency of the soup, although my daughter was happy with it. The flavour of the soup, however, was good and not lacking in clams, potatoes and other goodies. I don't think any of us paid more than $6 per person for our lunch and all walked away very full. My main suggestion is DON'T sit by the door!! It does not shut on it's own and I can't tell you how many numbskulls didn't bother to shut the door behind them coming in or out and it was cold! It's easy to miss this lil cafe so if you are walking towards the beach and pass Portland Fudge, you have gone too far. Oh...don't expect fancy either cuz it's clean, but divey (jut like I like it)...

We stopped in for lunch on a busy Sunday afternoon. We both ordered the clam chowder, popcorn shrimp and a side of slaw. The chowder was absolutely delicious, creamy and rich, not fishy at all. It was served with a yummy cheddar and beer bread. The popcorn shrimp was actually more like medium-sized shrimp in a very light, crispy breading. The cocktail sauce was homemade with lots of garlic and horseradish. Both were wonderful. The slaw was so good, not too heavy on the dressing, just like I like it. Our server, Darcy, was great. Our meal was about $15! Sam's is not a fancy place, but the food and service were both terrific. We'll definitely be back next time we visit Seaside.

A family get together of 10 people had mixed reviews. Eight got burgers and they were all smashed and burnt. On top of that, all the orders were mixed up so we had to dig in the burgers to figure out whose was whose. Two of us got fish and chips and they were excellent. The batter was crispy and the fish was flakey. All in all, skip the burnt, dry burger and go somewhere else.

Restaurant in front, bar (on the dive-y side) in the back. Service has been great each time I've been. Food is decent - and worth the price. I've eaten in the bar in the back, and the restaurant in the front, with beers in tow. Front part of the restaurant is usually filled with families, seems like a kid-friendly place. They have a veggie burger, which I recommend with tots (I will always recommend tots though unless they come out like soup). This isn't the best food in town, but there's a certain authenticity that says this is really a Seaside cafe (because it IS), in a small town (because it IS).

We went here and both had burgers, my girlfriend asked to substitute the fries for clam chowder and was told it was fine it would just cost a bit extra which is understandable ($2 or so at most would be expected). The clam chowder was just decent but the bread with it was pasty. We found better chowder down the road last visit to seaside. When we got our burgers I had fries and shared with her since she substituted hers. They were very average burgers, I've had better at sheri's. When we got the bill i was chaged full price for the chowder along with getting no fries. When i asked about it i was told thats what the soup costs. After reminding her that we wanted to substitute it she said thats what we did, she didnt want fries and she got clam chowder. But what i dont think she understands is theres a difference between a substitution and an aditional item. If i knew I was going to be charged full price and recieve less food we would have taken the fries since they didnt get substituted, simply removed. She really didnt seem to care about the issue and shrugged it off like it was no big deal and didnt care about the situation at all. We wont be recomending the food or sevice here to anyone sad to say.

We had lunch here on our last full day in Seaside. We went during the off-season so there weren't a lot of people around. I got the teriyaki burger with ham, pineapple and pepper jack cheese (I forget what the name on the menu was) and tater tots. My boyfriend got the Shrimp Louie Louie salad. We both enjoyed our meals.

What a great dinner to end a great day in seaside! My girlfriend and I both got fish n chips (cod) with a basket of popcorn shrimp, the food was just phenomenal, the service was fast and friendly and the atmosphere was chill and laid back. For all three of our baskets and drinks we paid less than 40$, you must try this place!

  • K W.

They had interesting food, but I went with my standby the french dip. It was on the small side but pretty tasty. I definitely regret asking to sub a salad... cost me 1.50 more and it was made of hamburger toppings... seriously. It was a slice of tomato, from a burger, onions from a burger and even the lettuce was that weird dark green thin lettuce.. not romaine or even iceberg! Disappointing. Husband had the fish and chips, they were meh. A beach town with place after place with sub par fish and chips?? When does THAT ever happen? The server was friendly and had cute blue hair :)

Burger and pulled pork sandwich were ok, but the fries were soggy and limp... And some of them not even cooked, like they were hanging out of the fryer.

Stopped here last night on the way home from Astoria for dinner. We walked around Seaside for quite some time looking for somewhere we could all enjoy (five in the party). We finally just ended up here. We were the only ones in the restaurant, but there were also people in Lukes Lizard Lounge enjoying the music (we had minors with us). I liked that it wasn't busy, as I was tired and didn't feel like a wait on food. We were greeted by our server (initials M.C. I believe)...she was awesome. If you go here and she's your server, you'll know her by her tattoos. Great tattoos. Even greater service. She attended to everything that we needed. Two of us ordered the Heart Attack Burger (burger, egg, ham, bacon, cheese), one ordered the Joes Burger, one ordered the clam chowder in a bread bowl, and one ordered the chicken sandwich with teriyaki sauce. All were decent. We also ordered a big plate of fries that were incredible. My burger was good, but the bread fell apart as I was eating, leaving me to believe that the bread is on the cheap side. The clam chowder was pretty good tasting, but my wife said that she didn't find much in the way of clam meat. The bread bowl was delicious, but they didn't take much bread out to make room for the chowder. making for a small portion. Everything else was reported as good. I would come back here for the same kind of food when in the mood. Nothing amazing, nothing bad. Great service from a great server. The prices were decent enough to bring me back also. The also have a daily specials board and those looked pretty good also. Last night was a pork burger with slaw...sounded good but was hungrier for more, hence the HA Burger. That's all I got to say about that.

Its a weird feeling being this close to the ocean and not ordering sea food, but after reading some of the reviews on Yelp, I went with a burger and tater tots. All of it good enough, and being hungry, I scarfed all the food down. It was the off season so unlike other reviews, I had brisk service from my waitress.

A great little hole in the wall! You might walk past it if you aren't looking for it. My husband and I came across this little lovely establishment about 2 years ago and he has been raving about the garlic burger ever since. So we stopped in this weekend while we were in town - still the best burger he has ever had. I had a the Ty sandwich - garlic sourdough with roast beef, cheese, and tomato - fabulous!! and the chips are the best. The waitress seemed a bit surley but that made it all the better. She even remembered us from our trip in before. I totally recommend this place....

Sam's is our go-to place in Seaside. It has always offered good food, great prices, awesome, laid back service, and a spot to get a late supper or drink (closes at MIDNIGHT every night--- a rare thing on the coast). If you are a Portlandia-esque, gluten avoiding, carb counting, organic worshiping, weenie-whiner......go elsewhere!!! This is a place to grab a burger, greasy hand-cut fries, chowder and a beer. For a place that could easily be an over-priced tourist trap, Sam's has kept its loyalties to the locals, while still providing a spot for the tourists. We have been eating here for a few years now, and have never been disappointed This is what a beach town pub should be. Great drink prices too. Many locals hang out here, which is a good thing. Friendly, kick-back vibe is always present. Cool due plays the bar on Thursday nights called The Salty Dogs. Awesome acoustic cover versions that add to the cool vibe to down a few pints and a bowl of chowder. A pet peeve of mine and the staff at Sam's --- When you come in the front door, CLOSE THE DAMN THING!!! I have never seen so many clueless, tourist-tards come bounding in and just leave the door wide open. Damn people!! We don't care if you were born in a gluten-free, organic, medicinal marijuana toking barn....have some respect and manners.

Horrendous service. Many of the items they advertise are not actually on the menu. Some of the waitstaff is polite but we also dealt with a very rude person working the bar.

My family and I stopped in here wanting a cheaper, laid back dinner and that is exactly what this place offered. Quick service by a waiter who was prompt and attentive, getting us refills without even having to ask. The burgers tasted homemade; they weren't massive, but were, in my opinion, the perfect portion of food (and they have tots with them! They also offer chips or fries). Prices were around the $10 mark for entrees. If you're wanting a cheap dinner or lunch that still satisfies, this is the place to go.

Beer and slots. Lol. Enough said. It's a bit divey but that's perfectly fine for me. We didn't eat, but just had a few PBR's, played some slots and were back on our way!

Went for lunch on a Tuesday and it was delightful. The food was great, a salmon "burger" and a chicken sandwich with home made potato chips. Just delicious, plain and simple. Asked about the beers, and waiter brought out a sample, Nice. We read about lots of places and were delighted with our choice. Would definitely return here. A very pleasant lunch experience was had...

Gross, vomit material, and black listed! The service was atrocious. Four tables sat after me but were serviced with drink orders before I was even spoken to. There should be a law that if you serve fish and chips within ten miles of the sea it shouldn't be frozen out of the bag gross crap that looks and tastes like Gordon's frozen biscuits. The fresh cut fries had potential until I found many fries cooked on one end and raw on the other. Come on Samsters! Live up to your potential or move on.

Nothing special but the food is good and reasonably priced. Our server may have been having an off day but he didn't pay much attention to us. The clam chowder is good and comes with a slice of veggie bread that is excellent for dipping. I had the bbq sandwich and found nothing to complain about. My gf had the veggie wrap and wasn't too impressed but she did enjoy the soup. Sam's has a decent atmosphere but doesn't appear too hygienic. Our table looked dirty and was slightly sticky.

this is where the locals hang out...in the lounge at the back, where everyone knows each other pretty much and the bartenders are awesome! Towards the front it's a cute little eating establishment perfect for kids!!! It's only a step away from the beach and totally affordable! happy hour is 4-6 it's also pretty much the only place open during the winters till midnight regularly everyday.

Hoping there was another burger place like the one I ate at before, I ventured into Sams and ordered up a burger and fries. The service was a little slow and it took them a half hour to get my food out. When I got it, the bun was not great and the rest of it including the fries were very crispy and overcooked. I couldn't even eat many of the fries and kept getting a burnt after taste even after I left. To top it off, the place reeked of a bleach odor like they just mopped the floors at 12 in the afternoon making it very unpleasant to eat. Total disappointment. Not going back.

It's not the best place to eat, but it's good enough. Good location, very kid friendly, and a good array of menu items. My veggie sandwich was decent, but it didn't taste much different than one I could make at home. My kids got the Kraft macaroni, so that was a hit. My husband got some chicken type burger and he liked it. This is a safe place to try, in terms of worrying about menu choices, taste/quality, customer service, and location. I didn't like that the restaurant tacked on a 20% tip (my gift certificate explicitly stated an 18% tip), but it didn't make a huge enough difference in price for me to complain about it.

Stopped here during our day excusion to Seaside. Really felt like some cozy cafe food rather than a hot dog or burger which seemed abundant along this quaint boardwalk. I ordered half a ham and pepperjack sandwich with a cup of chowder and snagged a bite of a friends cheeseburger. The burger was tasty and considering it was only 7 dollars it was a steal. My sandwich was nothing to brag about...your average sandwich with your normal toppings. The clam chowder was tasty! I could have just ordered a bowl of that and been sufficiently satisfied. Would definitely come here again if I am ever in Seaside again. Solid food with great service.

Sticky table. Forgot food. Waiter visited only a couple times. Dry and greasy fish.

Don't drink the water! It had some funkiness to it, so we ended up ordering beers and sodas. Our party of 7 had mixed reviews - I ordered the veggie sandwich and I really liked it - and it was $5.75 with fries. Hello! That is cheap, I don't care what anyone says. The fries were a bit overcooked and three folks in my party ordered fish & chips, the kid's menu portion with two pieces of fish was $6ish and the adult order with three pieces was $10ish. If you don't see the problem here... But anyway, if you have kids this is a great place, and if you don't want to spend a lot of money this is a good place!

If you are ever in Seaside, you really must go to Sam's. Honestly, we have been there many, many times and were NEVER disappointed. They are very kid friendly and have several locally made craft beers. I loved their soups and the Chicken salad, my husband liked burgers and french dips. It's a warm little diner with really good homemade food and local flair. The specials were always very good. A really nice place to go warm up after walking on the beach. I really miss it!

I had dinner here with my family while staying in Seaside. The portions here seem to be smaller, so we ended up ordering a lot of food for 4 of us. We ordered 2 clam chowder bread bowls, 2 salads, an order of hand-battered oysters, and halibut and chips. I felt the clam chowder was ok....I think there was more bread than the chowder itself though. I had the cobb salad and even though it was a bit on the small side, it was very good. I felt the oysters were a bit overpriced since it only came out with 5 pieces for $8, but it was really good. The halibut was hot and flaky....the fries were all right though it was not as crispy as I wanted. The service was attentive and our waiter was friendly and pretty funny. This is a good place to eat, but not for those with big appetites.

Here this year to test the chowders. Was at this place maybe 20 years ago or so at a whim on a hwy 101 bike trip and was craving some fish and chips. Was very good then after a short ride from Astoria. Had them again for the first time since then and I thought they are still good. The chowder was good too but a bit heavy, but that's what a chowder is I guess, tasted good along with the lightly battered fish.

After spending almost an hour trying to find a decent cafe in Seaside, I finally stumbled across this place. What was I looking for? A local cafe that serves decent espresso, provides free wi-fi, takes cards, has substantial food and offers a place where I can sit down, relax and work online. Sam's Seaside Cafe is hitting at about a 50%, but I can't give it 2.5 stars. No espresso, but coffee will work just fine. Free wi-fi, check. As for food, I received my pulled pork sandwich as I am writing this and I have to send it back because it is so sloppy that I can't eat it as a sandwich, because obviously someone is trying to cut costs with cheep buns. It works as a place to sit back and relax so it has this. In it's defense, I have been in here before at night with my daughter and we had a great time. Burgers and beer are why you would want to come here. To top it off, I have now been waiting 30 minutes for my server to refill my half ass coffee and take my food away. I am dropping the rating from 3 to 2 stars now.

We have been to Sam's twice now, once in October 2012 and earlier in June of 2010. Both times we had great food (husband claims the best fish-and-chips, but he eats them so quick I've never had a chance to steal some from him to try!), fast service, and a soild set of beer choices.

Average in Every Way. Sams offers pretty basic beach food at pretty basic prices. I had a basic burger (about $8), which was of average size, and could have come from any one of a dozen fast food restaurants. My parents who were on vacation from Montana, figured they'd try some seafood since they were so close to the ocean and both ordered Fish and Chips, which were about Long John Silver's quality. I have to give them props for good sweet potato fries, which came hot and fresh from the fryer, as well as homemade potato chips, which didn't disappoint. The location is pretty convenient if you're spending the day on the beach, but the restaurant doesn't have a beach view and the atmosphere is kind of abysmal. (Think beach kitsch decor plus ten years of neglect.) Service here was also pretty poor. It appeared that only one waitress was serving the whole restaurant at lunchtime over the Independence Day weekend. We had to wait 25 minutes for our check after we finished our meals. It wasn't our waitress' fault, really, since she had so many other tables to care for, but it didn't make for a good impression.

Hey.. I could give this place 3-1/2. They are special. They got a bunch of Mr. Potatoheads for kiddies (of all ages?) ready in addition to the regular crayon & coloring paper places have. Their homemade fries and chips are nice too. And their $1 ("small") choco milk is huge! Their "Hawaiian burger" (pineapple&teriyaki sauce) is super! But.. after I went to Norma's, I realized they aren't quite 4 starts.. Well, I'd expect a bigger portion of more tasty chowder for $6(?) clam chowder in bread bowl .

This place has a very laid back atmosphere. That said, the service is top notch. The food was pretty good also. The prices were average. All in I would definitely eat here again.

The waiters were friendly. The sandwich I had was pretty average, but I had no complaints. Actually, that might make it one of the better establishments in Seaside.

We were looking for somewhere to eat that didnt involve food on a stick or served on a paper plate. We said" what the heck" and walked into Sams. We were a party of 6 and found a table right away. The server was with us super quick, hes a tall slim man with grey hair and glasses, and he knows how to work the room. Our drinks came quick and were never empty. Full glasses of soda would appear before the kids ever had to ask for a refill and he kept hubby and I properly sauced in beer. The food was good, I had a crab melt. Crab was fresh. ($16) came with fries. Kids had hamburgers ($8) and voted them top notch . We all decided to make this a regular stopping place when we visit seaside every year.

Excellent burgers and sandwiches. Be sure to try the Smoked Onion Dip on your fries and chips! (They gave us the recipe!)

this is one of the best places to eat in seaside. they have hand cut frys and the hamburgers are the best in town with big thick meat patties. plus sit back in the lounge and enjoy the locals and play the video slots. all the servers are super friendly and the owner will go the extra mile! its only steps from the beach too!! just a few doors down from the turn a round..... u are missing out if you havent tried it....we have been eating here for about 6-7 years and always A++++

Came here for dinner... we wanted something relatively cheap (Hubby and his king crab legs dinner... argh), so stopped here. Very laid back and friendly atmosphere. We grabbed a booth at the window, and within seconds were greeted. Food was pretty good, although next time I'd get chips instead of fries (very narrow and a bit on the crispy side, not my cup of tea). Hubby liked his food and beer, and my diet coke was yummy. Best part of dinner was the trivia questions at the table you can quiz each other while waiting for food.

Who would have thought a plain old burger would be better than the seafood I ate fresh from the ocean? I visited here for lunch on a trip with my girlfriend from Seattle after a bad night at a seafood place next to our hotel. (Who prepares "grilled" oysters by breading them and dousing them in oil?) Fun decor, steps from the beach, and a very friendly, casual waiter. He highly recommended the Fort George Brewery Vortex Ale, perhaps the smoothest and most flavorful IPA I've ever had. I'm not big on IPAs, but this selection from nearby Astoria was heavenly. The charbroiled burger was done to perfection as well, and the thin, slightly crispy fries were just what I needed. There wasn't a bad bite or sip (which also included the Rogue Shakespeare Stout) in the entire meal. This place made my day immensely better, and I'll be sure to return.
