Wanted a malt while walking down the boardwalk and stopped in. We sat at the bar while our gracious host made a fabulous malt shake with Sea Salt Caramel ice cream and a bit of mocha (her suggestion). We went back and got another the next day. While there, the owner asked what kind of music we wanted to listen to (we chose some Ella Fitzgerald and Louie Armstrong) he happily obliged. The only reason to not give it a fourth star is its crowded, long wait times for the ice cream and its trying just a little too hard to be retro while selling crap made in china.

This is a fabulous place. We make sure to stop here every time when go to Seaside. The staff is incredibly friendly and we always order some rare, nostalgic treats for a low cost.

Seemed ok at first, friendly older woman greeted us as we came in, prices seemed fair. Then my sister got a scoop of "Death by chocolate" Ice cream. It tasted freezer burnt and had a gross chalky taste. We, politely, let them know something was wrong and all of a sudden, this fat baffoon comes barreling out from behind the counter like an angry rhinoceros telling us that it tastes fine to him! He made a great production of tasting it in front of us and shrugging his shoulders like, "what's the problem". In the end, probably due to our looks of blindsided shock and disgust, he so professionally asked, "You want a different scoop of something else in a bowl or what"? Skip the shop. It's good at face value and that's about it!

Stopped in today 6/28/14 and tried the shakes/malts. Great service and chat with the owner. Tried the banana split malt, EXCELLENT!! And hey their open til 9. Not sure why yelp says 8. Give the "big red" soda a try. He ships it in from the east coast. Made from real sugar cane!!

My son and I stumbled into this place yesterday during spring break. They have an amazing soda collection in a refrigerated section of very hard to find sodas from all over the nation. They even had Faygo, a favorite soda of mine from way back in the day when I lived in Detroit. A few people said they come here from Portland specifically to buy large quantities of the soda as it can't be found in Portland. Great customer service and awesome old school ice cream counter, good prices.

This was a fun ice cream place to eat at. Came in with my mom to grab a quick Sundae and I must say the decor made me smile. This is a 50th themed shop with lots of retro items to buy and a 50's ice cream bar top to enjoy a good shake or Sundae. The ice cream was good but it was a bit smaller than I'm used to for the price but the atmosphere made up for it :)

Its always fun to see retro junk, and this place is FULL of it!..Its also full of bad customer service. For a shop that boasts and sells its own line of soda's, it needs to also grant its paying customers the ability to have choices. We tried the so called Flashbacks Cherry Cola they offered, and unless you like carbonated Robitussin, stay away!! They would not let me exchange the unopened bottle after I purchased it. I get better service for returning unopened soda items from food carts around downtown PDX.....unfortunately, because of this bad service, I will not return to this vendor in the future, unless I know their sales practices have changed to the positive.

They have some cool stuff here, but the staff was ridiculously rude to me. Never shopping here again.

Great old school ice cream parlor, with some pop culture collectibles on sale to boot. There are plenty of places in Seaside to feed your sweet tooth but the Flashback is the best.

We were going to get some ice cream her but we came in thru the mall side.....well...I was immediately put off by all the signs "you break it you buy it" "your being watched" "be carful don't break things". Then the staff was not friendly, so we left...won't go back.

Awesomely fun! The people that work their are so energetic and were great w our friends kids! They have an old fashioned soda fountain w several big coolers of vintage glass soda pops... Say Over 200. Iconic gift items, magnets, comics/cards and tons of those metal funny signs!! HIGHLY recommend over and over in the Carousel Mall.

Cool little shop. Lots of nice retro items, and I mean retro as in Made in China in 2012 with John Wayne's likeness painted on a mug. There's a lot of that stuff. Tin signs of American Icons. Some cool stuff, but a lot of fluff. Perfect for the over-priced impulse buy of impractical knickknacks. Emphasis on the over-priced. There's very few genuine retro items for sale, and the few that are are fairly common place "collector's items" with beach front price tags. ($4 for a pack of Batman Returns trading cards...) They do have a cool malt shoppe bar with lots of bottled soda choices and a mediocre ice cream bar. I found glass bottled DIET JOLT COLA (remember when that stuff was the Emperor's new clothes circa 1997?). But, again, you pay beach front pricing. And if anything, I found the over bearing staff a bit condescending at times, and overly paranoid about stealing an over priced soda. I was reading their 50+ bottles of soda and apparently if you take more than 14 seconds to make a selection it triggers suspicion among the staff and they'll promptly cruise over to "assist you" in your selection. Interesting concept. High end prices. Over bearing staff. But then with a flip of a coin they were very friendly. Check it out, and you'll likely see stuff you want but prices you refuse to pay.

I liked coming to this place every summer, until now. Likely won't return. It's a cool place to go if you want to look around and do some window shopping. The selection of vintage pop culture and nostalgic items is wonderful... however, their prices are far above the value. Everything in the shop can be found on ebay for 25% to 65% less than what they are asking. This is evident by the fact that I have seen damn near all of the same exact items every single year for the last 7 years. The food is ok, but with so many options around this town... it's an easy pass. The proprietors: husband, cool guy, enjoyed conversation about the sodas and various items in the shop. The wife, rude, uptight, gives off the vibe that she would rather be running naked through a cactus field than help a customer... in her own shop. Kinda sad really. Service from the other staff has always been great though.

Cute place! All sorts of ice cream fun to choose from (floats, malts, sundaes, sodas...you get the idea). The options are endless. We sat up at the counter which was fun for the kids but they have a few booths in there too. Staff was very friendly and helpful. All in all it was a fun experience!

The Cascade Glacier ice cream is the best ice cream on Broadway, but the people aren't particularly nice to you.

Lovely little place with a lot of eclectic merchandise. Gentleman at the store was very pleasant and even found a matching souvenir box for the mug I purchased. Will definitely visit again.

This place is absolutely disgusting and the staff is extremely rude. I ordered two shakes for $11.50, which is overpriced considering how small they are. They ended up lacking flavor too, therefore I was quite disappointed. Don't waste your time here!!

Fun to browse, but everywhere you look are "you break, you buy" and "do not touch"signs. I don't know about anyone else, but in my opinion, signs like these are a little uninviting. Why buy if you can't pick it up and inspect it first? I suppose they might have had issues with people breaking things in the past. Anyway, the shop is still fun to browse. Loved browsing the Star Trek merchandise.

It's hard to complain about a place that carries Gale's Root Beer. If you haven't ever had Gale's.... do yourself a favor and buy a bottle. It's awesome. This place has a small ice cream bar..... home made cookies, woopie pies and the like. They also have old time pop in bottles with some rare selections that you don't get everywhere. Worth checking out.

A fun place to browse and purchase some geekdom, comic book or nostalgia material. I bought a Wonder Woman lunch box, cup and lanyard. However, three weeks after purchase, the lanyard snapped. It was obviously old since using it each day at work briefly broke the string. They also sell various kinds of soda that is not as well known and ice cream. A gal helped me while I was looking around and was pleasant. Overheard the guy at the counter cracking jokes and loving his job. Took my picture with Elvis. Not a fan of the dozen signs screaming, "Do not touch." That is how people know they want to buy something, they pick it up and look at it. If you have things that are highly breakable then lock them in a separate cabinet. It gets a bit tight walking in the aisles as this is a small store crammed to the rim with stuff.
