Horrible, horrible, horrible! And to think I stuck up for this place in my last review. Lessons learned, never go on a non prime rib night! First off, it took an hour to get our meager excuses for dinners. I ordered the ocean feast, it was burnt to a crisp! Been having troubles poopin, so I ordered a salad, that never came! Told the waitress "I like to have my salad before dinner." This ditz acted surprised and apologized (note, not the first time the salad fiasco has happened, was willing to forgive once. Lightning doesn't strike twice!). She did offer to get one for me, but I opted to just have it taken off my bill. So, at home and still hungry. Just don't go Sunday through Thursday to these crap slingers!

We went here because of the groupon, it's a bar on one side and restaurant on the other. Kids are allowed on the restaurant side until 8:30pm. The service was really good, one issue that presented early was the list of dinners they were out of. Now we were there early for dinner at 4:30pm so I'm not sure if that's a good sign of being busy or because they just didn't order correctly. We ordered a French dip, chicken macleay ( deconstructed chicken cordon bleu with thousand island dressing) chicken &gravy and a 20 oz top sirloin. We also ordered two salad which all they had left was lettuce and onion and we added bay shrimp for $2. Everyone really enjoyed their dinner and they were all cooked perfectly. The 20 oz steak came out to the table about 5 mins after everyone else's dinner and it was cooked medium, tender and was trimmed really well. The only issue was there was no seasoning at all on the steak. If they add some sort of seasoning like salt & pepper or Montreal steak seasoning they would have a steak that could compete with Ruth Chris and other top steak houses. Overall they are a solid 4 stars, the ambiance is old and looks run down but not something I would change, it works. Another thing is I'm usually really picky when it comes to gravy but theirs is delicious. Both white and brown.

this restaurant is on the outskirts of Salem. it's worth the drive. I have been coming here for over 20 years. the food here is really good, and the portions are large. they have a wide selection of food on their menu, steaks, hamburgers, sandwiches, and fish and chips. this restaurant. this restaurant is located where an old stagecoach run used to be. portions are very large here. stop next door at the old store and they have some interesting things in there. the service here is really good. come in and enjoy a nice meal.

I would have given 5 stars if it hadn't been for the really poor service we received tonight. I can count on one hand the number of times that I haven't left a tip and I just couldn't bring myself to leave one here. The food was awesome, the restaurant was not crowded at all, but the servers just were not up to par. We had to ask for refills of drinks after waiting quite a long time, our salad plates weren't picked up until dinner was brought out, we had to wait for a check to be brought and then again to be paid. This was our first time there, and while I would try it again because the food was so good, I would hope the service would be much improved.

Good food and nice atmosphere. I had the Reuben - yum city, but had to take half home because there is a killer amount of pastrami on it. Next time I'll ask for extra sauerkraut because I love it. Husband and daughter had bacon cheeseburgers and loved them - and my boy had the Rancher burger and said it was great too. It was HUGE - 1/2 pound of beef!! We arrived about 415 on a Saturday and by 5 the minors only side was full - so maybe have early dinner if you need that side. All in all good basic food and relatively clean - it's kind of decorated like an old saloon. We had a groupon deal and they were very pleasant about it - good experience! Will be back for lunch again soon!

Whether you realize it or not, sometimes what your soul needs is a break from the cookie cutter restaurant choices that are on nearly every corner of the city. Let yourself relax on the short drive outside Salem where houses actually have yards between them. Every meal I've ever had here is top notch but the steaks are my personal favorite. Playing Bingo here is exciting and relaxing at the same time! If you must have something more fast paced, Oregon Lottery games are available in the bar. Speaking of bar, you might not get the fanciest martini here but you will get a great drink served by a friendly, down to earth person. Make the time, make the drive and make a memory.

The family and I went here because we had a Groupon. We instantly loved the fact that it was out of the way and away from the crowds at the other restaurants in the Lancaster area. There's something refreshing about going to non-chain restaurants. The decore seemed dated and a little tired, but it think that's been done somewhat intentionally to contribute to the ol' saloon type atmosphere. The bench we sat at (the only one in the place) had the upholstery worn off of it. Our waitress was FANTASTIC and friendly and very knowledgeable about the menu. I had the Rancher burger which was one of the better burgers I've had in a while, I added mushrooms which I wad pleased with. My wife had a Ruben a salad with a creamy garlic dressing that was out of this world. We brought the kids but they were the only ones, there were no children's menus and it seemed a little like they were out of place. I took a bit of umbrage when I went to use the bathroom and the stall didn't have a door on it, so there was the fun exchange when people walk in and there you are sitting on display and have a bit of uncomfortable eye contact. All in all, we were mostly satisfied. The meal would have been a little on the pricy side without the Groupon but we were glad they put it out there. 3 out of 5 wagon wheels, would most likely recommend.

Tasty food with good portion sizes. We usually try and go before 5, hear it can get busy! Been there twice now and we've enjoyed the sausage, Reuben, bacon cheeseburger, and scallops. Will be back again!

They used to be a lot better and I just miss the old all you can eat cod on Thursday night the cod was huge thick cod fillets. now they have these weird little cod like chunk things formed into a triangle with ridiculously thick breading... lol

VERY good rancher burger!! One of the best around! However the rest of their food is just okay. Neat setting and the store next door is worth a stroll, they have some neat things to see. It's a step back in time and again, the rancher burger is where it's at.

We had a great experience here today. Our waitstaff was awesomely patient. When we walked in it felt a little slow... Lost in time... That rustic Old fashion charm... A nice change from "the real world." A pretty clear sign to seat ourselves greeted us. We found a table sat down, and since there were menu's on the table we started looking at it. Not too long after a very pleasant young gentleman came and asked what we'd like to drink. He left and came back in two minute! He was awesome... He shared his thoughts and favorite choices then gave us time to decide. I would've scored this place five stars but when we got our meal a new waitstaff took over. She didn't introduce herself, or engaged like the young fellow. I appreciate great service. We ordered chicken quesadilla for appetizer. It was surprisingly delicious. I will be back for it! The portion was huge, enough for a meal. We ordered the kids cheeseburger for my daughter. The cheese was oozing in all the right places. It was a hit! (I did notice a sign allowing minors in the restaurant until 8:30pm... I believe. Please call them to confirm.) We ordered the Maclaey Chicken (I believe that's what it's called) and the chicken strips with side salads for dinner. The salads included homemade salad dressings that were made to perfection. We had ranch, creamy garlic, and thousands island. Soooo good! The salad consisted of lettuce, onion, mushrooms, broccoli, and croutons. The portions were made for a hungry man! I have leftovers for days. We will definitely be back! It's truly worth the drive.

Came here again because we had a Groupon. My mother again got the Ribs and enjoyed them immensely. My sister ordered the English Dip and said it was just as good as it was the last time. My father tried the Country Fried Steak and really enjoyed it. This time I decided to get the El Ranchero which is basically a Chili burger. They take about a half pound of ground beef put it on two buns and the smother the entire plate in Chili. The place was very busy when we came by and because of that the service was a bit slower because the servers were running around like crazy. Even as busy as they were we didn't have to wait long to get our food or anything. I give huge props to the servers who worked their buns off.

Good solid fare at a fair price. Everything is cooked to order. The grilled cheese sandwich is to die for. The chicken fried steak is the best in Salem. The Big Ruben is great. Comfortable, casual and unpretentious. I do wish they would have additional people working on weekend days -- the server is swamped by the crowd today.

Have gone here since I was a kid. Now I bring my family. Can't beat their chicken fried steak or the house name special. Its a country drive well worth any time of year

I have heard about this place from locals for years! I was there on a Thursday night for a huge steak and music by local recording artist Louie Hubbard. That's when they told me about Prime Rib Friday and Saturday's. I live in Los Angeles with of course, tons of food choices. I visit Oregon quite often. Either for work, or because I just enjoy the "whole" West Coast! ( Washington too, I just don't get quite that far north very often ,except across the border in Vancouver,Wa but that's basically part of Portland!) Sometimes I drive up there for the heck if it. Since Prime Rib was at 5:00 and I didn't decide to go to Salem until 9:00 this morning, I figured I would be better off flying! Duh! I would have arrived at 10pm if I had driven!! They probably would of been out if P.R.! I usually spend most of my time in Portland especially the past few months for a project for work. I flew up today for one reason only. To visit the Oregon State Capital Building! The only "neighbor" state house I hadn't visited yet, until today. It's one of those bucket list things, I have been to 35 so far, but hadn't been to the one in Salem yet! I hopped in the back of my "Rent a Cab and Driver" after a visit to the Capital Building and a quick visit to Salem's "Lancaster Mall" for a shirt at Macy's. Worst "mall" I have ever seen in my life!!!! Another review?? Naa, they are not worth my time!! I Arrived at "Macleay Country Inn" At 5:00 sharp, they begin serving Prime Rib at 4:00, but last time I was there, they told me if I didn't want an "end piece", to wait until 5. I ordered the biggest slab (about $25 bucks) of Prime Rib they had. It came with Salad and mashed potatoes and gravy. ( you can also get baked potato too) I was eating and traveling alone, because this whole little "day trip" was a last minute idea that most of my friends don't dig. (Unless it's golfing in Georgia!) I really enjoyed my meal!! Meat and "spuds" cooked to perfection! ) Cut like butter. Garlic cloves throughout!! Pure perfection!!! I had two Beefeater "Marti's"with big plump olives! Overall Macleay Inn had great food and service! It's your typical looking "tavern style" bar and grill, only with outstanding food! As the crowd grew, I became a little uncomfortable and nervous, as I wasn't "blending in" anymore. And after a few "meet and greets", I took off in the cab for PDX and back to LA by 11:00. Had a great afternoon and meal. I think the Prime Rib at Macleay Country Rivals all the big ones here in LA. No Valet!! Lol!! I should also note that "Macleay Inn" is located about 10 miles east of Salem.

Took the 20 min drive from downtown Salem out to this place and it was well worth it. Beautiful drive. Nice saloon feel. The majority of the building is the bar but you can order food on either side. I got the Reuben and it was thick with meat. The fries were very good. Price was a little high but the amount of meat on the sandwich made it worth it. I'll definitely be back.

The food was good , espeshely the garlic dressing, and the prime rib was rare as I ordered . It was small in the dinning room, only a few tables, but for 2 people that was ok. There was only one server and she was stressed and grumpy from the start. It was defiantly not welcoming . I would not go back solely based on the service. It was that bad. The food was nice country inn eats.

Great Steaks. Bar is noisy, but tolerable. Waitstaff was good. They advertise their Groupons.

On the way back from Detroit Lake, my boyfriend and I were debating on dinner solutions. MacLeay won over something home cooked because we were both tired. I had never even heard of MacLeay, let alone know about the little diner that is the Inn. My boyfriend had, though, and had said it was pretty decent country diner fare. That turned out to be quite a fair description. The interior is riddled with odds and ends that would be at home in a rustic lodge or my grandmothers house. Seats are spread out over three areas, one of which has a very nice old fireplace. This also happens to be where minors are allowed. We took a seat in the center area next to the bar. Our waitress was friendly, if not overly swift. This may be due to it having been a Friday night and the bar area was filling up quick. We didn't spend too much time looking over the menu, but it did seem to have a good variety of options. Both of us ordered our standard Bacon Cheeseburgers and Fries (oh, they do charge and extra $1.50 if you want Fries with your burger . . .odd). Nothing super awesome about either the burger or the fries. They were tasty enough, hot, and filling. I found mine to be a little messy, as the tomato slices must have been cut very fresh and were extremely thick and juicy, making a mess of things. Tasted good though! I'm probably just being picky here, but we both found the chairs at our table to be very uncomfortable. They seemed to slant every so slightly down towards the back of the seat, making sitting up nice and straight difficult. If you happen to be around this area, I wouldn't stop you from going in, but I'd personally just drive the extra 15 minutes into Salem.

We visited this restaurant a few years ago and it was ok. The picture on the Groupon we ordered made this out to be a gourmet steak house, so I thought I'd give it another go. The service was slow, the restaurant was dirty, and the food was cafeteria quality. The sounds of video lotto going on in the background made it a pretty depressing atmosphere. Definitely not going back.

I'm sad to do this... We loved this place! We would come here all the time for yummy comfort food. We were here last night and it was a train wreck! Our poor server must have been having an off night because it took forever for everything! It took 20 minutes for my change after we paid, it was horrible. Please do not come here if you plan on staying for less than 3 hours total. I hope to go back and give it one last try, I truly am sad this place has gone so far down hill. Food was ok... Cocktail sauce was served with mozzarella sticks! Not marinara or ranch, Yuck! Good luck!

I went twice. The first time was because my wife had a groupon or some crap. I hate groupon. She ordered the prime rib, but then was told that they didn't have it because it "went bad", an ominous omen at best. I was not eating meat at the time, so I ate shrimp. They were really bad. I went to the bathroom, and was tempted to take a picture of the bulletin board in there: every single item on it, upwards of a dozen notices, had a misspelling. Why did I come back, then? I wanted to give them another chance. It is, after all, supposedly a steakhouse. My steak tasted like an old abused milk cow that was fed a lifetime diet of garbage and then put down during a failed calving. Denny's has better steak. Boo to that.

We went because like many others my mom got the groupon. After we arrived for an early dinner we were seated, about half an hour later got water, about another half an hour we placed our orders. The food came pretty quickly after we ordered. This makes sense since everything appeared to be premade crap. I had heard it used to be the place to go and been seen in the farming community. I think that that may have been the case years ago. However, the patrons I saw appeared to be the arrogant kids of the hard working farmers blowing the family money on round after round of drinks. There was way more cursing and drinking there than in any other 'family' restaurant I've been to.

A group of 4 of us went because we had a groupon. Thank goodness we didn't have to pay full price for our meals because the service was horrible, fries cold, forgotten ranch and bacon, empty glasses and not to mention that smallest brautwurst I've ever seen. Did they get those out of a oscar meyer pack? I'd never go back and if you do go, steer clear of Kim as your server...how does this girl keep a job? Seriously! Bad service trumpts good food anyday!

My dad recently took me here to show off his new, local watering hole. We came here for their bingo and karaoke nights, and also during the day. The place is quaint with nice down-to-earth people, and they offer good food in large portions.

Four of us dropped in here for a late lunch and weren't disappointed. Good sandwiches, great burgers, salads and soup. We all ordered something different and all were pleased -- but none of us cleaned our plates, portions were more than adequate.

Just when one might think there isn't such a thing in Salem, the MacLeay Country Inn proves all the locals and visitors wrong with country digs that would make the South proud. Located deep into the country side of South Salem (largely undeveloped residential / farm area), the MacLeay Country Inn thrives on locals during the weekend and providing some pizazz in an otherwise tranquil part of the town. Folks can enjoy a good beer here or a nice steak while listening to some country tunes and playing billiards. The service here is decent but I've been shunned a few times in the sense my service was slow and slightly apathetic. I wasn't sure if this is because I wasn't a frequent visitor (though I am a local) or the fact I'm not a Caucasian lumberjack / farmer (odd feeling). The food was solid as the steak was tender and the burgers were yummy. Prices weren't enough to break the bank but given the area I expected local dive prices, not Applebee's.

Really fantastic food and good service although quite a few tables were dirty and unusable when we got there. I liked the old fashioned decor and ambiance.

Best French Dip in town! All the food is outstanding and the portions are generous. The service is good and it has a pleasant atmosphere. If you go on a weekend evening, be sure to get there early as the place fills up fast.

Ok, here goes my very first review of anything cause usually I just don't care enough to bother .netbut today was the exception. I purchased a groupon for dinner at Maclearys and I just can't believe anyone would go there twice. The only thing I can imagine that keeps this place open is the distance to anywhere else to eat. We arrived at 5: 30 on Saturday because other reviews had mentioned that their service was slow and the earlier the better.....but not so, the service was awful, not just bad but awful. The first thing we were told by the young man that came to out table was that they were out of prime rib except for well done, now this is just 90 minutes after they started serving the prime rib. The salad was about what you would expect from Denny's, limp lettuce with stuffing croutons and raw onions, yep, that's all. We waited for 45 minutes for our prime rib to be delivered to the table, if it is already cooked and the potatoes are already baked what is the hold up, it sure isn't the garnish. My companion asked for a refill on tea and after he second request from another server she got a glass of tea. I just can't say enough about the lack of quality of the meat and no flavor despite being stuffed with whole garlic cloves. Please don't spend $20.00 for a awful plate of food. You are far better off at the Roadhouse or Outback or Best Little Roadhouse....just not a good place to go unless you like bad food, poor service and a very long wait.

saw the bad reviews but took a chance never again 15 min to be waited on-15 min to get a drink and 45 min to get food scallops were ok but the baked potato was cold
