Mexican food for people who hate Mexican food. Or any food, for that matter. Insanely high prices. Tough meats, rubbery and hard. I love Mexican food for the spice, the heat, the intensity, and the freshness. The food here LOOKED good, but chewing on the menu would have provided a more intense flavor experience. Staff was friendly, but they can't overcome bland flavor and tough meats. In a town with a Mexican place on every corner, this has to be one of the worst possible choices.

So I'm in Salem on the average once a week for meetings or otherwise. This review isn't going to say much because there isn't much to say. Everything about this place is fine. The food is fine. The service is fine. The prices are fine. The bathrooms are fine. Nothing makes this restaurant stand out. It's just another generic Mexican place. They did have a lunch buffet but it was a joke. There were 6 itmes in the buffet. Three of which were rice, beans and vegetables. If you're looking for an average Mexican restaurant and there isn't a Juan Colorado near you then this is its twin in Salem. If you're up for a few more minutes of driving I couldn't speak more highly of La Hacienda Real in West Salem. Review coming for that one when it's fresh on my mind why everything there is better than just fine.

I was in here a couple years back with a friend from out of town. It took nearly an hour from when we walked in the door until our food came -- and the place was practically deserted. I was VERY surprised that the food was actually quite good, but the delay was embarrassing. Fortunately we hadn't seen each other in years and had plenty to catch up on. I popped on here to see if my experience was a fluke; it sounds like maybe it was not. This place needs to take service more seriously; it can ruin a dining experience regardless of how good the food is.

I wasn't expecting the food to be so expensive walking into this place. We just decided to stop from seeing it while driving by. The inside is much nicer than the outside looks. The menu is pretty extensive but like I said its pretty pricey. I don't think the quality of the food comes close to warranting what they charge. There are a couple non fajita items on the menu that are over sixteen dollars. For mexican food to be that expensive its gotta bed pretty damn good and unfortunately it wasnt. One of the best indicators of a quality mexican food restaurant are the chips and salsa. Los dos amigos' chips and salsa is pretty sub par. The chips are more drab than what you can buy at a grocery store. Salsa....meh. The margaritas weren't very flavorful. They were nice and strong though. I have to give them that.

Enjoy their food very much, and consider it more flavorful than the typical Mexican restaurant in Salem. Chips are nothing special, bean dip is ok. Main meals are above average.

My wife and I played restaurant roulette on our way up north, and ended up here. The wait staff was very pleasant and food arrived promptly. The bean dip they bring as an app is quite good. Both of our entrees were really large portions and full of flavor.

I have been here many times and had probably 15 different things on the menu with my mom and family, the servers are always very friendly and the back when I used to drink the sauce I would stop in here for lunch and grab a humongous margaritas and though they are $16, a little pricey, they are very good and the owners are very friendly and usually on site to chat. The tacos are good as are the chimichangas and the fajitas are usually my go to

First impression here is very good. It's clean and looks really good. The menu is large to the point of overwhelming. The chip with fresh salsa and beans are pretty good. I ordered the tostada with ground beef and added the sour cream and guacamole. When it arrived I couldn't help but notice it was a massive amount of lettuce. I'm talking salad quantity of lettuce here. Once I started eating I had to dig thru the pile of lettuce to see the ground beef and the tostada that wasn't crunchy but mushy. While the $2.50 guacamole and sour cream tasted good I didn't see the value for such a minimal amount. The ground beef had a funny taste that I couldn't put my finger on but it didn't taste good. I would avoid the ground beef tostada. Service was fantastic and they constantly kept checking on us. If they can fix the taste of ground beef and lesson the lettuce quantity this could be a great place.

Amazing authentic Mexican food, 5 stars!!! We had chicken stuffed tortillas, steak fajitas, tacos al pastor, and enchiladas en la crema- all of it was incredible, some of the best Mexican food we've had outside of home! I also had a mango margarita which was very good, and the rim covered in chile powder! The interior of the restaurant is beautifully decorated and the servers are all very friendly and fast! Will definitely visit next time we pass through!

Very good and fresh mexican food. Large portions but fair for the prices. A little on the high side but well worth it for the amount of food. Authentic dishes with great taste. Definatley worth trying.

Quality of food seems to have gone down hill as their prices have gone up! The cesuela is still good, and will get you drunk as always! I'll go here in a pinch, but there are much better places in the salem/keizer area.

Good service, good portions they have a big variety to choose from, you need to try their deserts, delicious! however food is not as taste, they need to improve that, it's very spacious and clean as well

Los Dos was a nice place to grab lunch with the family. These restaurants can be hit and miss all over the place. Are you surprised that this location in the heart of Salem is one of the best I've had? If you are, don't be....they had the most authentic staff I've ever encountered! My family and I arrived around 1pm last Saturday. We were greeted rather quickly and sat right away. Drinks all around!!! My Mom grabbed a Strawberry Margarita (HUGE drink with LOTS of Tequilla), Wifey went with a regular Margarita, and I had a large Dos Equis. Their mixed drinks were pretty tasty, and really strong. That's how you win! The lunches were muy grande! I chose the Enchilada Suiza with Rice and Beans. The portion was monstrous. The food was pretty standard. It wasn't done up with a bunch of authentic spices and flavors, but I've had a hell of a lot worse in my time. Most important? Montezuma's Revenge was no where to be found. WHEW! It is a little spendy for lunch, about $15 a plate. But portions were huge, quality was fair, service was really good. We enjoyed our lunch here. Will I be back? I wouldn't be opposed to it, but I would want to venture out and see what other Mexican food Salem has to offer.

Good food, Great service very friendly staff. The atmosphere is awesome and the Decor is nice. Definitely not a chain restaurant which is good. Although not the best Mexican food I have ever had, I am a regular while in Salem. Great place to get together with family or friends not too loud and noisy.

I have come to this restaurant quite a few times in the past year and a half or so. I had never tried it before that but it was close to my work, and it was nice to have a place I could find something to eat where my friend and I could chat once in a while. Starting off, I don't think I have EVER had decent service here. There's always been a few things wrong each time. The food was always just eh. Nothing great, but not terrible. The prices were pretty good for lunch (I usually got something about 6.95). The atmosphere is ok although a little chilly, and the booths are a little weird because the table and booth are a little far away from each other, but that could be just my opinion. Not a dealbreaker though. Well I think today was pretty much the last time I will ever go if I have the choice. Service was pretty terrible... I had to get someone that wasn't my waitress to get me a refill. Then, at about the time the food should come out, the waitress comes to tell me they are out of eggs. Ok then. Wal-Mart is across the street, when you run out of something that basic... do what you gotta do to get you by. So by that time I was just irritated because of the very stale tortilla chips. My friend had eaten, and the waitress kept passing and even took the plate...but it took us about ten minutes before we were finally able to get her attention and be like we need our check. So in all honesty, I couldn't recommend this place and don't think I'll be back if I can help it.

This is my spouse's favourite Mexican restaurant in Salem; I have another favourite, so we split our trips. I like the chile colorado best of all the dishes, and I like the fact that I can get it in an enchilada; I sometimes find it difficult to find things I like to order for the bizarre reason that they seem to change the menu so often that favourites get removed or put somewhere hard to find in favour of whatever's trendy. I also think the prices are a bit high for the portions; but the chips & salsa keep coming. Oh, and the waitstaff has a difficult time grasping what a *lime* is instead of a *lemon* (my party all drinks cokes with lime, not lemon - tastes like floor wax - and we had to ask four times last time before we got green, thin-skinned *limes).

Amazing tasting food, at a somewhat reasonable price but the customer service leaves you wanting more. Three times the waiter(s) left in the middle of me asking questions about what was on the menu and many times acted bothered we requested refills. We will be back but with lower expectations.

After reading previous reviews, I was afraid to try this place, but I did anyway. The service was very good and the food was average. Overall it was a pretty good experience, if I lived in Salem I would come back.

We have frequented this location since the current owners took over about 15 years ago. We eat at this restaurant on average 1-2 times a week. We LOVE their food and the staff is wonderful. We have NEVER had bad service or food. We even compare other places to the quality of Los Dos Amigos and always prefer their food, seasonings and taste over others we have tried. The prices are comparable to other restaurants, and the quantity of food....we always take home left overs. We have family in California and Washington. When they come to visit Los Dos Amigos is always their first choice. We also have several family we know and co-workers that love this restaurant too. I have never heard anything negative from any of them over the years. If you love good quality Mexican Food, I highly recommend this restaurant!

Whew. What a place. Great chips and salsa, but no refill offers??? Seating was slow, acknowledgment by waitstaff was slow, and drink delivery was slow. But hey, so was the restaurant (??). It was 2pm. The menu had some options that I had never seen before, and I was excited about that. One of the main reasons that I never go anywhere but La Hacienda is the fact that all Mexican places serve the same food and it all tastes the same. Not this place. The food was good. Good enough that I will return. But getting it took too long. The weird thing is, two people that were seated right before us got their food, ate it, paid, and were out of the restaurant before us. Did the cooks have a grudge against us? The waitstaff were nice. Nothing to complain about there. I'll give this place a shot again, but I would REALLY like to try their lunch buffet.

Love eating here but the prices have gotten so high that we have pretty much stopped. We used to go 2 times a week...now we go once every 6 months :(

Service is usually good. Food is good, with a few highlights, one being the green sauce of serrano and cilantro which is fantastic with their shrimp, mushrooms and jack cheese. Drinks are good as well. One pet peeve -- they don't clean the booths well. While they wipe things down, the walls beside the booths can be covered in things flung by children, and the little table flip-books of drinks and desserts are positively grimy. Ugh. Wipe them down for goodness sake.

My wife and i used to dine here frequently back about 6 years ago, when it was called the El presidente, so we thought we'd give it a shot last night. I had the Chimichanga, and it had a bizarre taste to it. It was actually very bland with almost no flavor, but with a slight soapy taste to it.

With there being a plethora of Mexican restaurants to choose from in town, I find Los Dos Amigos to be overpriced for the quality of food & service. I've been several times, which were all "ok," nothing spectacular. However, it was my most recent visit that had me vowing never to return. I ordered the raspberry iced tea to drink, took one sip and hated it, so asked for a sprite instead. When the bill came, I was charged separately for the tea AND soda despite the fact that they were the same price and came with free refills. Both come out of the same soda fountain, so I couldn't understand being double charged. When I inquired about the double charges, my waiter simply said I had to be charged double because I switched drinks. Others in my dining group also thought that policy was ridiculous & spoke up. Luckily, with enough coercion, the waiter agreed to reimburse me for one drink, but still refused to remove it from the bill. Seems to be a sneaky way of earning a couple extra dollars.

Food was normal priced - but tasted old (for a lack of better terms) and flavorless. It was dirty and we were ignored by the staff most of the time we were there. My bar drink was all ice (wth lots of alcohol cost). Kids were screaming and crying everywhere. Just some place we will NOT be returning to.

very close to a one star. the only thing that saved it from a one rating was the very nice staff. but between ordering and the actual food -- 45 minutes!! and it wasn't that busy. so by the time the food arrived we were all full on their free chips. but in the end, it was a good thing we ate the chips, 'cause 3/4 in our party could not eat the entrees. the food was that bad. our fourth member who liked his food good the grilled steak fajitas. we ended up with 3 big doggie bags of food...but when we got home -- it all went in the trash...again....THAT BAD. i'd rather have went to muchas gracias. seriously....THAT BAD. and gosh darn it, i really want to give this place one star -- but again -- all the staff were friendly. go figure. the environment was very loud and you could hear every screaming baby/kid throughout the building.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
