Chuck B. hit this one right on the nose. I think that this Great Harvest shouldn't have places to sit at all. There is essentially seating for four, and the four folks who were there this afternoon were in no hurry to leave so that my friend and I could eat our sandwiches (playing cards, etc.). Sure, we could have had a picnic...but it's December. The setup is awkward for sure. Don't plan on a sit-down lunch here. We decided on sandwiches* for lunch today (I had the 1/2 sandy + soup combo). At $8.90 total with a Pelligrino, I felt like I got a pretty good deal. Unfortunately I had soup but no sandwich. The sandwich had a hair pressed in to the cheese that I could see as soon as I had it half unwrapped. GHB returned my money, and offered me a free bakery item, but the mood was ruined. I can easily see how the hair made it in to my food, too: no hair nets! All four of the workers today were young girls, hair hastily pulled back in half ponies. C'mon now. True bakeries should have headwear (net, hat, etc), doncha think? *I can see how this place has good reviews, because the sandwich I was about to have looked delicious! Fire peppers, pepperoncinis, jalapenos, EVOO. Toppings galore!

Best.Place.For.Bread, monster cookies, scones, lunch, free slice of bread and awesome wicked friendly people,. They are busy and there is very little seating and the bread is expensive.. but worth every penny. I am a Montana girl and this is a Montana company and that's why i stopped the first time... but Bethany and crew and the yummy goodies keep me coming back. In a hurry? Call ahead, give them 20 minutes and you can run in and out, no problem. Ask for their punch card, buy some bread, get a loaf free.. and stop in daily for a free slice of bread.

This place is awesome. We were visiting Salem and my sister said we had to stop in and get some bread. It was a cold day and we walked in to a warm cozy shop filled with the scent of fresh bread. They had lots of sample breads (I had apple cinnamon) that was wonderful! The prices are good and the people are very friendly. What a great place for baked good. When we move to Salem I will be back...

I always leave happy every time I come here. Good bread, good sandwiches, good coffee. I literally have NEVER been disappointed. It is nice to try different types of breads. The only sad story I have is I bought a cheese loaf and left it on the counter at my house. Our dog got to it. Ugh I was so mad, but at least someone enjoyed every bit of that cheesy bread goodness. Needless to say, we moved the bread basket to the top of the refrigerator.

The sandwiches are good and the free bread samples help tide you over while you wait in anticiaption for lunch to finally be ready. Sadly the free sample of bread doesn't last until your sandwich is made and you sit sadly waiting. Or you stand sadly waiting as there are only six chairs in the entire place. Once you get your sandwich and rookie if you are extra bad, it is pure bliss.

Have you ever tried a new food and wanted to cry because you weren't expecting it to be so delicious?? I never did either until I found this place today. Amazing, I got a grilled sandwich and it was worth waiting a couple minutes for it because it was SO GOOD. Never going anywhere else for sandwiches again

Each time I'm on Court Street in downtown Salem, I tend to always smell the wonderful fresh odor of baked goods inside the Great Harvest Bread Co. The selection of bread is very good from your wheat harvest to sour doe to multigrain varieties. Service has always been very friendly and the prices are not too shabby. From my last visit, there was no place to sit as this is primarily a pick up place. Recommended for getting fresh quality bread, especially the ones that are hard to find in supermarkets.
